The University of Chicago Needs Some Occupy Wall Street

-By Warner Todd Huston

If you’ll recall, the brief but noisy Occupy Wall street movement was all about protesting the “One Percent,” those evil rich folks that apparently return nothing to the nation. Well a look at the compensation of those at the University of Chicago in President Obama’s home city shows that the Occupy folks were protesting the wrong people! It looks like the one percent reside at the UofC.

A very in depth article by David Francis Mihalyfy reveals what he calls a university mired in outsized compensation “hidden by a PR machine, funded by growing tuition and debt, and allocated despite questionable job performance”

Mihalyfy serves up this damning assessment of the university in Obama’s Chicago:

Illinois Ranks as ‘Worst’ For Small Businesses

-By Warner Todd Huston

Once again Illinois and California are neck-and-neck in the calculations for the worst of the worst U.S. states, this time in a measure of how friendly the states are for the growth of small businesses.

Earlier this month thumbtack.com released its third annual survey of the climate for small businesses exploring such ratings as the overall friendliness of the state to small businesses, the ease of starting a business, regulations, ease of hiring new employees, taxes, and other criteria.

The poll was conducted among over 12,000 small business owners across the country.

The survey, held in conjunction with the Kauffman Foundation, found that the worst states for small businesses were California, Rhode Island and Illinois, all of which got a Thumbtack “F” rating. The next worst were Connecticut and New Jersey, both of which received a “D” grading.

Illinois has descended in its rating each of the three years that the survey has been conducted having earned a “D+” in 2012, a “D” in 2013, and an “F” in 2014.

In Memorial: Illinois’ Conservative Giant Jack Roeser

-By Warner Todd Huston

I have been made aware that the great Jack Roeser passed away last night. This is a great loss to conservatism in Illinois, but Jack was in his 90s and in delicate health, so it isn’t a surprise, sadly.

Mr. Roeser was very generous with the fortune he built from the ground up as owner of Otto Engineering, a high tech firm located in Carpentersville, Illinois.

Roser was a hard charging conservative and often made folks both left and right mad at him for his choices of causes and candidates, but he was also unapologetic and fearless. In this day and age when people are always mewling and apologizing for their actions, you have to admire a real adult like Roeser making his choices and sticking with them regardless of the “consequences.”

Now Obama Is Coming for Your Cigars, America

-By Warner Todd Huston

Obama’s Food and Drug Administration is targeting your cigars, America, and if you are a cigar lover you’d better pay attention because if Obama gets his way costs will soar.

The USFDA is proposing a whole slew of new regulations changing the way the government treats cigars, one if which is to outlaw cigar sales over the Internet.

There are some other onerous and downright absurd regulations being proposed, too.

In one case, Obama plans to make it illegal to have walk-in humidors at your local cigar shop.

Google VP Publicly Flogs Own Company for Lack of Diversity

-By Warner Todd Huston

Laszlo Bock, Senior Vice President, People Operations, has publicly spoken out about the “lack of diversity” among Google employees. Despite Google’s far left-wing company culture, he is apologetic and wants users to know that there are reasons that Google isn’t “diverse” enough.

The reliably left-wing Google has for years tried to hide its astonishing lack of diversity from public view, but has apparently decided to come clean.

In a May 28 Google blog post Bock finally made to lift the veil of secrecy in which Google had enshrouded its employment statistics and revealed that the company is mostly white and mostly male.

Hey, Criminals, Didja Know Sonic, Chipotle, & Chilli’s Won’t Allow Guns? So, Open Season, Right?

-By Warner Todd Huston

It’s all the rage, all of a sudden, for national restaurant chains to start posting little, powerless stickers on their doors in the attempt to tell law-abiding, legal gun owners that their business is not welcome there. But it is also a new rage for criminals to repeatedly rob those same stores because they now know that no one inside will be armed. Imagine that.

Lately several restaurants have made news by claiming to have banned guns inside their stories. Buffalo Wild Wings, Chipotle, Sonic, Chilli’s and Starbucks are all claiming they have banned legal gun owners form doing business with them.

Take the Sonic fast food chain, for instance. This month the Sonic corporate heads got their tiny little minds together and announced that all Sonic customers will henceforth be unarmed. Consequently, the very day the company made this grand announcement, one of its locations was robbed.

The attack happened in Topeka, Kansas, only a few hours after Sonic made its cute little announcement that firearms were banned within and around their restaurants.

Obama Admits Government is a Failure? VA Allows Vets to Get Private Care!

-By Warner Todd Huston

After several weeks of scandalous failure to provide timely healthcare to our military veterans, some dying waiting for care that would never come, the Veteran’s Administration has now decided to allow veterans to pursue more private healthcare options to improve their treatment. But isn’t government turning to the private sector in stark contrast to the theme of the age of Obama, one that holds that private business “didn’t build that” and that we need to further empower government?

On May 24, the Associated Press reported that VA chief Eric Shinseki has announced a new plan for VA hospitals and healthcare providers to work more with private doctors. Shinseki told the press that the VA is “increasing the care we acquire in the community through non-VA care.”

Shinseki makes this concession as 26 VA facilities thus far have come under investigation for forcing sick veterans to wait for months to receive medical care. Up to 40 or more veterans died waiting for care on these lists.

Eric Holder Tells Graduates to Forget Sterling, Voter ID a Bigger Threat

-By Warner Todd Huston

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder told graduates in Maryland that they should ignore “hateful rants” like that from Clippers owner Donald Sterling. Holder said that voter ID and “zero tolerance” policies in schools are worse on minorities than anything Sterling could have done.

Speaking before 850 graduates at Baltimore’s Morgan State University on Saturday, May 17, Holder warned students not to get caught up in the hype of “intolerant public statements,” but to be more worried about the racism inherent in the U.S.A.

“…policies that disenfranchise specific groups are more pernicious than hateful rants,” Holder told the students.

Holder’s commencement address comes amid a flurry of cancellations by other speakers who were protested by students across the country. Actions that one New Republic writer saidis an example of how “The rise of liberal intolerance [that] is ruining debate on college campuses.”

Could India Be On The Verge of a Major Shift Toward Capitalism?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Of all the countries in the world that have the potential to become one of the world’s next great superpowers, India is a nation poised to take that step. While there is an awful lot holding that giant nation back, their latest election just might be the next step to a more secure, prosperous future.

This possible new step was the election of a pro business party to govern the nation. For some time India has been controlled by the Congress Party, a very corrupt and typically socialist-styled political party that has done little to bring growth to the country. But the Congress Party has fallen and in a big way.

This week the BJP (the Bharatiya Janata Party) has won a shocking landslide election booting the Congress Party entirely out of power.

Headed by Prime Minister-Elect Narendra Modi, the BJP is a very pro-business and pro-modernity party. Modi has already created India’s version of Texas with his governorship of the Gujarat state, the most prosperous area of India and now he is poised to try and bring that level of success to the whole country.

Bankrupt Illinois Spent $12 Million on Medicaid for Dead People

-By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois is constantly at the bottom in every metric that measures our most successful states. It is perennially either the 48th, 49th, or 50th worst state in every category. And now we learn that the state is spending up to $12 million a year that it doesn’t have on Medicaid for people who are dead! Can this state become more of a joke?

The Associated Press recently filed a Freedom of Information Act request and uncovered a disturbing memo from the Illinois state auditor.

“State auditors identified overpayments for services to roughly 2,900 people after the date of their deaths,” the AP wrote.

This was more evidence that Obama’s claims that Democrats are fixing the Medicaid enrollment system is a failure.

Vet. Admin Outrage is Harbinger of Obamacare

-By Warner Todd Huston

The scandal at the Veteran’s Administration (VA) is growing every week. As each new VA hospital is revealed to have made sick veterans wait so long for care that many died while waiting, and then subsequently covered up the truth, we all must come to grips with the fact that this is Obamacare writ large.

If you hadn’t been paying attention to how badly Obama’s government healthcare system is treating our elderly and sick veterans, you should. Because with Obamacare this sort of criminal behavior is coming to you and your sick relatives whether you served in the military or not.

Essentially what has been happening is that employees, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare pros at the VA have been allowing themselves to have grueling four-hour work days while wait times for their services have naturally been growing exponentially–after all there are fewer hours in a day that patients can be served if the docs and nurses only work four hours a day!

The cover up is the secondary part of this scandal. The newest report at CBS has only the latest example of this disgusting state of affairs.

Environmental Shakedown Through Bastardized Application of Science, Policy and Education

-By Marita Noon

Over a three-year period, 2009-2012, Department of Justice data shows American taxpayers footed the bill for more than $53 million in so-called environmental groups’ legal fees–and the actual number could be much higher. The real motivation behind the Endangered Species Act (ESA) litigation, perhaps, could have more to do with vengeance and penance than with a real desire to protect flora and fauna.

On May 7, I spoke at the Four Corners Oil and Gas Conference in Farmington, New Mexico. During the two-day event, I sat in on many of the other sessions and had conversations with dozens of attendees. I left the event with the distinct impression that the current implementation of the ESA is a major impediment to the economic growth, tax revenue, and job creation that comes with oil-and-gas development. I have written on ESA issues many times, most recently I wrote about the lesser prairie chicken’s proposed “threatened” listing (which the Fish and Wildlife Service [FWS] listed on March 27) and the Oklahoma Attorney General’s lawsuit against the federal government over the “sue and settle” tactics of FWS and the Department of the Interior.

While at the conference, I received an email announcing that FWS has asked a federal court for a six-month delay in making a final determination on whether to list the Gunnison sage grouse as an endangered species–moving the decision past the November elections. Up for re-election, Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) “cheered” the extension request. The E & E report states: Colorado elected leaders “fear the listing could have significant economic impacts.”

Pope Francis: The Catholics’ Commie Pope Problem is Growing

-By Warner Todd Huston

With his third major address infused with socialist buzzwords, it seems to be official. Pope Francis is the first Commie Pope. And this is a big problem for the Catholic Church and they’d better get a handle on it.

First of all it is disgusting that any member of the cloth would advocate for communism like this Pope seems to be doing. Communism and its sister ideologies socialism and Nazism are responsible for the deaths of more humans than anything man has ever done. Yes, even more than religion–In fact, more than all religions combined. If you are in favor of communism/socialism/Naziism (and there is no material difference between them), then you are an apologist for mass murder. It really is just that simple.

Now, the Catholic Church has enough of a bad history instigating mass murder, so glomming onto communism is not a good PR move.

Transparency a Must to Protect Our Ecosystem

-By Warner Todd Huston

April brought us Earth Day and with it at focus on both our ecosystem and those that claim it is their highest interest to protect the same. With reflection, though, we have to wonder if these self-appointed guardians of our environment are really just foxes guarding the henhouse succumbing to the temptation of power and money, even as they demonize those “greedy” corporate interests, they oppose. In many cases we may discover that these supposed “non-profits” are anything but.

A recent article–one of many on this theme–shows that even the so-called mainstream environmental groups like the Sierra Club are becoming targets of ridicule and derision from a brash new breed of environmental activist. It brings to mind the old adage that there is no honor among thieves.

Armed with money from deep-pocketed, left-wing donors have loosed an army of idealistic shock troops. With social media marketing skills and lawyers on staff, these organizations have perfected the art of adeptly (and legally, I might add) picking the public’s pocket while bragging about it. It is, as Forbes magazine says, a costly game of “sue and settle.” Worse, there is collusion going on between these environmental groups and the federal government.

Under Obamacare, Healthcare Costs Soar & Obama’s $40 Million Vacation Tab

-By Warner Todd Huston

Remember how our liar in chief said that under his all powerful Obamacare law medical costs would go down? That apparently was the next lie of the year after his lie that we could all keep our doctors and insurance if we liked it as spending on healthcare exploded in the first Obamacare quarter and it’s now higher than ever.

The Bureau of Economic Analysis has released a new report that shows that healthcare spending grew 9.9 percent as Obamacare takes effect.

“It’s the biggest percent change in health-care spending since 1980, when health-care spending jumped 10% in the third quarter,” Business Insider reports. “Analysts said it’s primarily due to a consumption boost from the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Adjusted for inflation, America is spending more on health care than ever before.”

Meanwhile the price of fixing the catastrophically failed Obamacare website has passed $121 million tax dollars.

“There doesn’t seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel for Obamacare website expenses,” said Rep. Darrell E. Issa (R, CA), House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman.

Obama Forcing the Closure of Fast Food Outlets on Military Bases

-By Warner Todd Huston

Four restaurants, three of which are McDonald’s, have closed down on several military bases and a host of other outlets, like Pizza Huts, are also saying they will soon be closing their shops. These closures will seriously damage the quality of life for our soldiers on our military bases and it is all thanks to Barack Obama.

The shocking report from the Military Times has several Republican lawmakers alarmed that the quality of life on our military bases will be diminished thanks to Obama’s meddling.

According the MT, several other contractors who operate restaurants and other small businesses on military bases “have asked to be released from their Army and Air Force Exchange Service contracts to operate fast food restaurants at two other installations.”

Francis: Our Commie Pope

Last year Pope Francis stirred passions on both sides of the political aisle with a major statement that seemed to show that he was an anti-capitalist commie. And while for weeks afterward he and his spokesmen denied the characterization of a commie pope, we may now have yet another example of Pope Francis going red with a new message on the Papal Twitter feed.

On April 28, the Papal Twitter account had this message: “Inequality is the root of social evil.”

This is pure communist pap. This buzzword of “inequality” is free of both substance and truth.

Obama Gives IRS, Obamacare Employees BIG Raises While Americans Lose Jobs

-By Warner Todd Huston

So, if you work for a federal agency that engages in illicit attacks on political opponents in obvious violation of the spirit of the U.S. Constitution or you work for the agency responsible for the disastrous rollout of the President’s take over of our national healthcare system, what do you get? Fired? A cut in pay? A stern letter of rebuke, even? Nope in Obamaland you get BIG raises!

Employees at both the IRS and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have been awarded huge raises driving up the payroll costs to the two departments by multiple millions of dollars. This despite the massive failures and crimes committed by these people.

In the case of the Obamacare workers, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is the department directly responsible for implementing the failed Obamacare system. Yet, despite months of failures and despite that the website still doesn’t work right, Obama was happy to give all his CMS folks big raises.

Lawless Seattle Democrats Make to Steal Woman’s Business

-By Warner Todd Huston

The city council of Seattle saw a pay-to-park lot owned by a private landowner and businesswoman and collectively thought to itself, “ya know, it would be nice to have the income from that parking lot for our own.” And so, in the typically lawless way that Democrats operate, the city council sent the woman a note telling her that they have decided that she must hand over the land to them so that they can make the money off the parking lot instead of her. The land owner, though, saw no reason to comply, and oddly enough and a court fight ensued.

Not long ago, the city of Seattle enviously eyed the land owned by Spokane resident Myrtle Woldson dreaming its greedy little dream that the income she derived from the pay-to-park business she had on that land was theirs.

So, they asked Mrs. Woldson if she would sell them the land. But the then 103-year-old businesswoman decided that she wasn’t at all interested in selling her lot.

Eric Khon Slams Rich Miller as Anti-Capitalist

-By Warner Todd Huston

Eric Kohn over at Illinois Mirror has a great piece that highlights the main difference between real capitalism and the sort of crony capitalism (which isn’t capitalism at all) that the left so dearly loves.

Rich Miller is a liberal who runs a well-trafficked website on Illinois politics called Capitol Fax. While he is certainly a Democrat and fully linked into that sort of politics, his site isn’t always mere propaganda for the left–though it is filled with such. Once in a while, Miller also slams a Democrat and he has certainly reported on situations and incidents that Democrats would rather be kept quiet. So, by this I mean his site isn’t mere propaganda as once in a while he does do some actual, good, unbiased reporting, or as Rush Limbaugh calls it a “random act of journalism.”

Miller’s site is also his business. He makes a tidy living off his efforts and he deserves his success for having built a website from the ground up that has become one of the state’s biggest sources of political news. It is also notable for being a website that makes money. Thar ain’t many of them around, to be sure. So, congrats to Rich.

Eating Their Own: Union Wants to Unionize Extremist, Left-Wing Media Matters, Website Owners Furious

-By Warner Todd Huston

Started in 2004, the left-wing propaganda website Media Matters for America has been spreading lies about Republicans and conservatives for a decade, now. Naturally the site has always claimed the center-right coalition is “anti-worker” for opposing unions, but this organization itself has never been unionized. Now the Service Employee International Union (SEIU) is agitating to organize Media Matters and the propaganda outfit is fit to be tied over the union’s efforts.

Started by Clinton operative David Brock, Media Matters for America (MM) has been programming the left-wing media since its debut and one of the organization’s repeated topics has been its blanket support for unions and for all the things unions advocate. Most especially a support for the union goal of “card check.”

Card check is a union scheme of making the unionization of a business easier–easier for unions, not employers. One of its features is to have employees voting on whether or not to allow a union to enter the workplace forced to vote their preference out in the open, without a secret ballot.

Writer Huston: Long Road Ahead for GM, But Don’t Count It Out

-By Warner Todd Huston

So, I was on Newsmax TV on Tuesday…

From the Newsmax website:

It will take a long time for General Motors to regain its reputation as a trusted carmaker — but don’t count it out, says Warner Todd Huston, a writer for Wizbang and Breitbart.com.

“Thirteen people killed tied to this [ignition] faulty switch and GM people running for cover,” Huston told Ed Berliner, guest host of “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV.

“But . . . America loves to give people a second act. I wouldn’t count anybody down for the count. [The Rev.] Al Sharpton has been able to make a new living,” Huston said Tuesday.

Since February, GM has recalled 2.6 million vehicles with faulty ignition switches that could cause the engine to turn off and disable the power steering and airbags.

Asked whether the massive recall was a result of negligence on the part of GM, Huston said:

“There’s probably some [who were] saying, no, we’ll fix it later, others that are trying to avoid being held accountable, so, they try to push it off in the background,” he said.

“It’s a mixture of things. I don’t think it’s just . . . negligence, but it’s definitely negligence.”

Obama to Give Unions a Veto Over Where a Company Can Set Up Shop

-By Warner Todd Huston

If you own a company and want to relocate to another part of the country, Obama wants you to know that you have no right to decide where that location will be. Obama wants you to know that only a labor union can make that decision. You have no say in the matter.

At least, that is what Obama’s National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) wants to do with a new rule that would give unions veto power over where a company re-opens its doors.

The goal, of course, is to destroy the economies of right-to-work states and force them to allow destructive unions to hold sway over their business sector or risk economic ruin.

Currently it is perfectly legal (not to mention moral, I might add) for a company to decided it wants to close its facilities in one part of the country and move some or all of it’s business to another part of the country. We call it the free enterprise system.

Democrat Hypocrisy: Attacking Political Advocate Spending…. Unless They’re Unions

-By Warner Todd Huston

Democrats in New York once again prove that their bleating against money in politics is a lie with a new law that forces more campaign finance disclosure for everyone (read Republicans) except for union. Yes, while others are being forced to more disclosure, unions are being allowed to hide more campaign expenditures.

By exempting left-wing, Democrat-old Union donors, this is proof once again that Democrats don’t want money out of politics, they only want Republican money out of politics.

In New York, the state legislature passed a state budget that requires more disclosure of spending on issues and advocacy (outside elections) for everyone… except unions, naturally.

As Craine’s New York reported, “Spending by labor unions on campaign messages targeting their members and union retirees will remain exempt from disclosure under the state law…”

Millionaire Sen. Dick Durbin Happy to Pay More for Food for Min Wage Hike And Wants to Force You To

-By Warner Todd Huston

The super rich Durbin who makes far and away more than the average citizen in his state and who has a net worth of far more still, said hew would be pleased as punch to pay “a nickel more” for a hamburger if workers get more per hour than they do now.

So, this rich guy doesn’t mind paying more for food in a state that has the worst unemployment record in the country? He wants his own citizens to pay more for things when they can’t afford to get by now?

Breaking the Law: Pay Higher for Government Contractors Than Other Workers

-By Warner Todd Huston

Employees, whether unionized or not, who work for companies that have government contracts make far more per hour than employees who do similar jobs in the same area, a new study finds. This fact shows that government is essentially breaking its compensation own law.

The Service Contract Act of 1965 maintains that employees working for companies with government contracts must make the prevailing wage for their job in the area in which they work.

That means that if a carpet-layer in Peoria, Illinois makes $10.27 per hour, then any company that lays carpet for the government must pay their carpet-layers $10.27 per hour. Seems fair enough, right?

But the study shows that this isn’t happening. These government contractors aren’t making the prevailing wage. In fact, they are making far more than the prevailing wage! And all at the expense to the taxpayers, naturally.

Crooked Illinois Dems Sneak Ban of Farm Sold Milk into Restroom Access Bill

-By Warner Todd Huston

This is the kind of crap that makes all politics seem crooked, conniving, scheming, and corrupt. With only days to go until the end of the legislative session a Democrat has sneaked in an amendment that would put a ban on farm-sold raw milk products into a bill meant to merely change the name of the state’s restroom access act.

That’s right, a ban on raw milk sales is now in a bill to provide fair access to restrooms. What do the two have to do with one another? Not a dang thing. But that is how corrupt politics works. If someone wants something stuck in an unrelated bill as a pay off, why all you have to do is set the right levers in motion.

The amendment to HB4036 would prevent the sale of non pasteurized milk products. The amendment was introduced by Chicago Representative Daniel J. Burke.

And what is this restroom bill? The only thing House Bill 4036 was introduced to do was to make a minor change to the name of the restroom act. That is all.
