Illinois Democrat Sponsors Bill to Kill all White Puppies in State Because They Have White Privilege

-By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois Rep. Julie Stratin of Chicago’s 11th District has introduced a bill to have all state shelters immediately euthanize dogs with predominantly white coats. Stratin says that white dogs represent too much white privilege and she wants to level the playing field for dark colored dogs, the Chicago Tribune Times reports.

Stratin’s bill would ban white dogs from being sold in the state, though on objection from House Republicans, Stratin did add a clause to the bill stating that all white dogs currently living in the Land of Lincoln among private owners could live out their normal life spans and escape being euthanized.

The bill also sets up a pet owner’s registry so that the state can track dog owners to make sure no new white dogs are brought into the state. And a waiting period of three days is set so that state inspectors can affirm that any new dog sold in the state has fur that is 50 percent or less white.

The bill sets up a new office of DoggyID and with inspector’s jobs offering a starting salary of $75,000 a year with full union benefits.

“It’s time that the brown and blacks puppies get much needed relief from this state,” Stratin said on the floor of the House on Thursday. “White dogs in shelters continue to be adopted at higher rates than the minority dogs and as a compassionate society we should move to even the playing field. It’s time to stop this gross white privilege!”

The bill will also fine pet owners $500 for a first time offense of buying a white dog and pet shops will be find $10,000 if they are found non-compliant with the new law.

Illinois Republican House Minority leader Jimmy Dunker praised the bill after successfully cutting its proposed budget from $10 million annually to only $4 million by raising fees for dog owner licenses.

“Illinois is a proud dog state and if we are to govern successfully we must reach not only into the Illinois House but the dog house,” Dunker proudly said.

The bill is headed to the Illinois Senate and will likely be approved by next Thursday. From there it will head to Governor Bruce Runner’s desk.

However, the bill has a murky future once it makes it to the governor. The state’s chief executive said that he will only sign the bill if the economic impact on licensing for pet shops is cut in half, something that isn’t likely in the Democrat-led government in Springfield. Continue reading

Pure Media Bias: Liberal Media Smears Mitt Romney With Death of Cecil The Lion

-By Warner Todd Huston

For the last few days the left-wing media has been losing its tiny collective mind over the death of Zimbabwe’s Cecil the lion. Well, today the liberal Washington-based political newspaper The Hill published a story breathlessly informing the world that the man who shot the lion donated to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign. And then, in a perfect example of media bias, the left-wing newspaper Tweeted a photo of the dead lion next to an image of Romney!

This is little else but the yellowest of yellow journalism. What does Romney have to do with the death of Cecil the lion? Nothing. But for some reason The Hill wants to link the death of the beloved lion to Romney!

Here is the Tweet that the far left, non-journalists at The Hill sent out on Wednesday:

The New Budget Bill: Still Funds Obamacare, Still Bans Abortion Spending, Still Bans Internet Taxes

-By Warner Todd Huston

The New nine-month budget bill called the CR/Omnibus spending bill is a $1.01 trillion spending bill that is over one thousand pages thick. But it takes care of spending for most of 2015 and one has to wonder why the Republicans pushed a spending bill that will prevent them from affecting spending for most of the entire first year they will be in control?

It is absurd that the GOP didn’t push a continuing resolution that only tides the government over for a few short months because next year the GOP will be in full control of both houses of Congress. Yet, the GOP was not just *sighing* and agreeing with this nine-month spending bill, GOP leadership was pushing it. This is a bill that will cut the GOP out from having any influence on spending for most of their first year they are in control.

Still, many of the hundreds of policy riders–little bits of instruction that affects spending–are good for the conservatives. Of course, some will upset Democrats and some Republicans.

Anyway, here are some of the riders of interest in the new budget bill (in no particular order):

Obamacare Fully Funded

The bill fully funds Obamacare, though it does put a limit to any growth in spending and cuts the budget by $10 million for the “death panel” board called the Independent Payment Advisory Board. It also does not give the IRS any new funding so that the taxing agency can implement the Affordable Care Act.

Clean Water Act

In a victory for farmers, the spending bill will prevent the EPA from taking upon itself the power to regulate farm ponds and ditch water. This is also a victory for Republicans–not to mention the country!

EPA Funding Cut

Speaking of the EPA, its budget was cut by $60 million over last year’s budget. The EPA will get $8.1 billion. This is another decrease. Since 2010 the agency has lost 21 percent of its budget.

No Pot Legalization for Washington DC

The City Council of the District of Columbia will be prohibited from legalizing marijuana and will be forced to hew to the federal ban on pot. On the other hand, federal drug enforcement agencies and law groups will be prevented from interfering in state-based pot industries.

Environmental Shakedown Through Bastardized Application of Science, Policy and Education

-By Marita Noon

Over a three-year period, 2009-2012, Department of Justice data shows American taxpayers footed the bill for more than $53 million in so-called environmental groups’ legal fees–and the actual number could be much higher. The real motivation behind the Endangered Species Act (ESA) litigation, perhaps, could have more to do with vengeance and penance than with a real desire to protect flora and fauna.

On May 7, I spoke at the Four Corners Oil and Gas Conference in Farmington, New Mexico. During the two-day event, I sat in on many of the other sessions and had conversations with dozens of attendees. I left the event with the distinct impression that the current implementation of the ESA is a major impediment to the economic growth, tax revenue, and job creation that comes with oil-and-gas development. I have written on ESA issues many times, most recently I wrote about the lesser prairie chicken’s proposed “threatened” listing (which the Fish and Wildlife Service [FWS] listed on March 27) and the Oklahoma Attorney General’s lawsuit against the federal government over the “sue and settle” tactics of FWS and the Department of the Interior.

While at the conference, I received an email announcing that FWS has asked a federal court for a six-month delay in making a final determination on whether to list the Gunnison sage grouse as an endangered species–moving the decision past the November elections. Up for re-election, Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) “cheered” the extension request. The E & E report states: Colorado elected leaders “fear the listing could have significant economic impacts.”

Transparency a Must to Protect Our Ecosystem

-By Warner Todd Huston

April brought us Earth Day and with it at focus on both our ecosystem and those that claim it is their highest interest to protect the same. With reflection, though, we have to wonder if these self-appointed guardians of our environment are really just foxes guarding the henhouse succumbing to the temptation of power and money, even as they demonize those “greedy” corporate interests, they oppose. In many cases we may discover that these supposed “non-profits” are anything but.

A recent article–one of many on this theme–shows that even the so-called mainstream environmental groups like the Sierra Club are becoming targets of ridicule and derision from a brash new breed of environmental activist. It brings to mind the old adage that there is no honor among thieves.

Armed with money from deep-pocketed, left-wing donors have loosed an army of idealistic shock troops. With social media marketing skills and lawyers on staff, these organizations have perfected the art of adeptly (and legally, I might add) picking the public’s pocket while bragging about it. It is, as Forbes magazine says, a costly game of “sue and settle.” Worse, there is collusion going on between these environmental groups and the federal government.

Ivory: Another Arbitrary Example of Obama Banning Things

-By Warner Todd Huston

Trade in new items made of ivory is illegal in the United States. The ban was put in place in 1989 to save the lives of the world’s dwindling elephant population and to keep them from being heartlessly killed solely for their tusks. It’s a sensible ban, granted, but now Obama has arbitrarily taken that needless next step to ban even those ivory items made before the ban, a move that makes no sense at all.

Since time immemorial, items made from ivory have been prized by humans. Elephant tusks are a very pleasing looking material and makes beautiful decorative carvings. And even today, even after the ban, items that were made in the hundreds of years before the ban are prized on the collector’s and antiques markets.

But now Obama has decided that collectors and antiques dealers are criminals for even daring to own ivory items from pre-ban eras. The administration is moving to make sale or possession of any ivory, even pre-ban ivory, a crime.

Rare Obamacare Success Story: A Dog in Colorado Gets Insured

-By Warner Todd Huston

Obamacare has been an absolute disaster all across the United States. Millions of Americans have lost their insurance due to the new rules that Obama put in place with his Obamacare law. But there is one success to report. In Colorado a man just learned that his dog got covered by Obamacare.

A man in Fort Collins, Colorado, received an interesting letter in the mail from his Obamacare administrators. His 14-year-old Yorkie dog got covered by Obamacare.

As Fox 31, Denver, reports, “Shane Smith, of Fort Collins, says his dog Baxter received a letter informing him that a health insurance account had been opened in his name through Connect for Health Colorado.”

“I thought, ‘Wow, this is so awesome,'” Smith told the media. “They have gone out of their way to insure my 14-year-old Yorkie.”

Obama-Masked Missouri Rodeo Clown Banned From Sport For Life

-By Warner Todd Huston

Don’t make fun of king Obama. If you do your life will be destroyed. That is the message that the Missouri State Fair is sending by the banning for life of a rodeo clown that used an Obama mask during a recent performance.

Of course, the crowd had a great time with the stunt as can be seen in a video of the event…

The incident occurred on August 10 at the Missouri State Fair where Rodeo clown Tuffy Gessling made a bunch of Obama jokes with a dummy figure of Obama propped up by a broom which was being used as a target for the rodeo bulls. But soon scolds on the Internet went wild attacking the clown as “racist.”

Jeff Mazur, an Executive Director for AFSCME, a left-wing government workers union, and an operative in Democrat Governor Jay Nixon’s administration, wasn’t amused, though and he took to Twitter to immediately attack the rodeo for the Obama joke. (See his Tweet below)

Huffington Post Slams PTEA for ‘Secret Slaughter of Kittens, Puppies’

-By Warner Todd Huston

For the Huffington Post, Nathan J. Winograd wrote an extensive expose of the history of euthanizing animals perpetrated by the supposed animal-loving group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Winograd reports that thousands of animals are killed every year and his post is filled with unsettling photos to prove his point.

Warning readers right away that the images in his report are “graphic” and may “distress the reader,” Winograd goes on to reveal that “approximately 2,000 animals pass through PETA’s front door every year and very few make it out alive.”

Amazingly, the article claimed that 96 percent of the animals that pass through PETA’s doors ended up dead. Worse, PETA’s donors are the ones paying for these killings even as those same donors think they are sending money to save animals.

“Most animal lovers find this hard to believe,” Then Winograd says. Winograd goes on to bitingly say, “if it is true that a picture speaks a thousand words, the following images speak volumes about who and what PETA really stands for.”

All Other Problems Solved, Chicago Democrats’ New Law Worried About Dogs Behind the Wheel

-By Warner Todd Huston

Having apparently solved all of the other debilitating problems Illinois is facing, Chicago Democrats have now turned their considered attention to making sure dog owners don’t let their puppies get behind the wheel of an automobile.

This important bill (HB1581) amends the Illinois vehicle code to ban drivers from putting their pooch on their laps as they drive. Presumably the Democrats understand it is the humans that are doing the driving, not the dogs–but we may need to launch a second legislative campaign to clarify that.

As Chicago-based Democrat and co-sponsor of the bill, Rep. Bully Burke, says, “Because I travel, I can’t help but observe the number of people with dogs on their laps.” And so, ol’ Billy is out to correct this egregious public safety issue. He’s all about solving the puppy-distracted driver issue.

This is a vital issue, to be sure.

Why? Well, it’s obvious that Illinois Democrats have solved every other nagging issue in the Land of Lincoln, right?

New Insect Species Found… On Photo Sharing Website

-By Warner Todd Huston

There may be nothing new under the sun, but there appears to be at least one thing new on the Internet. Scientists have announced this year that a new bug was identified on the Internet. No, not a virus or trojan program, but a real bug. An insect, now dubbed Semachrysa jade, was discovered by an entomologist who was looking at pictures of bugs uploaded by a user of the photo sharing site Flickr.

As entomologists are wont to do, Shaun Winterton was perusing Flickr last year looking at pictures of bugs uploaded by users of the photo sharing site when he came across a photo of a bug he’d never seen before.

The photo shows a green lacewing with black lines and shimmering blue spots on its wings. Winterton, a senior entomologist at the California Department of Food and Agriculture, says that this coloration has never been seen before on a lacewing.

Winterton sent the photo to several bug-loving colleagues of his quizzing them if they had ever seen the insect. Turns out none of them had. Winterton had found a bug unknown to science and on the Internet of all places.

Politico: ‘Ten Things to Know’ About Ann Romney’s Horse?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Political news site Politico is not done needling Ann Romney for having a top-rated horse in the Olympics, apparently. Witness an actual Politico headline: 10 things to know about Rafalca.

Most of the “ten things” are just facts about the horse, Rafalca, but one of them was a political jab and a second was misleading.

The political jab was that purported funnyman Stephen Colbert made a satirical video about the horse. Ho hum.

The misleading one was in the first few words of point five. It says that Rafalca “has her own clothing line.” Politico goes on to report that owners of the horse have made up ball caps and t-shirts screen printed with the horse’s name for fans to buy over the Internet.

A Blogger at NATO 2012, What I Saw on Day One

-By Warner Todd Huston

I was awarded press credentials for NATO’s 2012 Summit in Chicago and, having no idea what to expect, what I found on day one was a study in contrasts. What occurred was sometimes amusing, often mundane, and sometimes even violent. But it was all democracy in action.

Early on the morning of day one, Sunday, May 20, I boarded a western Metra train under threat of having my equipment bags confiscated or at least me prevented from boarding the train with them. I was not ruffed up the “the man,” though and downtown I went riding high on the rails. Literally. I took a seat on the top tier of the train.

The Summit didn’t start well as the NATO advance video called Chicago the Illinois Capital (It isn’t) and the place where Obama grew up (Again, it isn’t).

Upon reaching the gathering point for the press in beautiful downtown Chicago I boarded the super, double, secret press shuttle bus that took us down the service streets, steering well clear of the surface roads, straight to Chicago’s McCormick Place convention center, site of the NATO Summit.

Of course, before I was allowed on the super, double, secret press bus, bomb-sniffing dogs were loosed to make sure I had no underwear-bomb on my person or in my equipment bags. After I was officially cleared, I boarded the bus with local Chicago TV newsreader Jay Levine.

Everywhere I went there were knots of security personnel. A LOT of security personnel. The last time I saw that many security people I was in Cancun, Mexico during the 2010 UN Climate Conference.

There were members of the FBI, Homeland Security, Chicago Police, the U.S. Marshals as well as U.S. Airmen and Army officers all there on duty to make sure our tender media people were safe and secure.

I was later to learn that out on the streets of Chicago the number of security of all sorts made the way to McCormick Place seem like it was lightly guarded!

Barack Obama: Dog Eater

-By Warner Todd Huston

The extremists of the left (you know, Democrats) have been trying to make a big deal out of the time that Mitt Romney put his dog on top of his car in the dim, dark past. They say this proves that Romney is mean, evil, rotten, a dog-hating scumbag.

But in his own memoir President Obama said that he had actually eaten dogs when he lived in Indonesia.

… and yet, these hypocrite lefties say nothing about it. And when they do bother to recognize this in-his-own-words admission from Obama that he has actually eaten dogs, they explain it away as no big deal.

Now, to me neither case is of interest. But what IS of interest here is the hypocrisy of the leftists that want to get all exercised over Romney putting a dog atop a car yet NOT getting the least bit upset over Obama EATING dogs!

Washington Post Columnist: You Know, My Racist Dog Is Pretty Republican

-By Warner Todd Huston

Washington Post columnist Gene Weingarten wants us all to know that he’s “fallen in love” with a racist, sexist, female that presents “awkward truths that people tend to deny.” His dog, you see, is a racist Republican. And in the end the whole column is just an excuse to slam Mitt Romney.

I guess it’s supposed to be a “humor” column, but when this “humorist” thinks it’s funny that Republicans are racists, and any manner of creeps, well, perhaps we red staters might be forgiven if laughter isn’t our first reaction.

Weingarten begins by confessing that at 60 years of age he’s “fallen in love with a Republican.” Apparently, it’s Murphy, his dog of five years.

Then Weingarten goes on a terror rolling out all the anti-Republican tropes. Republicans are racist, they are prudes, they are buttinskis, they are rigid, they hate the disabled, they’re against alternate energy, they hate the environment, and are gun-loving rednecks. In short, Republicans are all ignorant creeps that embarrass smart fellows like Weingarten.

It’s the Lies About Beef that are the Slime

-By Alan Caruba

I am subject to various enthusiasms and, in 2008, I wrote a series about beef and the vast network of phony consumer advocates, vegetarian types, animal rights groups and headline chasing media folks who love a good scare campaign, all trying to convince Americans that beef was bad for them.

Today, it is a smear campaign about a type of meat promoted in the media as “pink slime.” Typically, it is a pack of lies and it’s going to cost some folks their jobs and drive up the cost of beef if allowed to go unchallenged.

What is being demonized in this 21st century reincarnation of the 1989 Alar apple scare is finely textured, 95% lean beef. It is composed of small parts of beef that are still available for use after the cuts with which we are more accustomed, like sirloin, brisket, top round, flank, porterhouse, and some forty other selections, are taken.

In Defense of Washington’s Four-legged Rats!

-By Don Boys, Ph.D.

I have been attacked by dog and cat lovers because of my column, “No Dogs, Ducks, or Dinosaurs in Heaven; Not Even Cats, Cows or Crows!” but now I am experiencing the slings and arrows of rat lovers because of my column “Getting Rid of Rats in Washington!” that was recently published. One writer suggested that I was wrong about rats being covered by the District law but he did not know that some rats are covered by the D.C. law and others are not.

Another writer, in defense of rats, said she was “utterly disgusted” with what I wrote. Foaming at the mouth she asked “Who are you to decide which animals is (sic) worthy of living and who’s (sic) lives are not?” Sweetheart, I have every right to decide what animals are worth living. Who else? Some dogs are acceptable, some are not. Most goldfish would be all right; however, rats, mice, roaches, mosquitoes, bedbugs, etc., are to be stepped on or trapped. Maybe shot.

Continuing her rant, she wrote, “Rats are social, loving and amazing animals….Wild or domestic, rats are simply amazing.” She took a deep breath and added that Washington was doing the right thing and the relocation process was an “amazing accomplishment”! My adjective would be idiotic.

Looks Like Obama Lost These Boobs as Fans, Anyway

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Barbi Twins are no longer big fans of the Obammessiah. They think he’s turned his back on the horses. No, not the ones at the race track — well, maybe after they retire from the track they’ll fit in this story. No the Barbi twins think Obama has abandoned the horses that had until now been protected by a federal ban from being sent to U.S.-based horse slaughter houses.

Now, I did not choose to write about this story because it features two “hot” blondes with big boobs — though that doesn’t hurt. I’ve actually written about this horse meat issue before. Naturally I came down on the opposite side of the issue that the girls chose.

The two blond bobble heads are upset that Congress is repealing a ban on horse slaughter houses in the U.S. Absurdly, they seem to imagine that all horses in the country are “pets.” This is their theme to rail against the idea of having equine abattoirs operating inside the U.S.A.

Now, to millionaires that are out of touch with normal people, I guess horses might always be thought of as “pets.” But in the real world horses are often draft animals working on farms. And when they get sick or old and infirm or when owners can no longer afford to keep them they are properly — and humanely, I might add — destined for the slaughter house.

Aussie Moron Gets Shot By Sticking Face In Front of Shotgun

-By Warner Todd Huston

We certainly never want to see anyone shot accidentally. If a firearm is wielded it is imperative that the one pulling the trigger is in the right to do so. In Australia we have a case to prove the exception. Once in a while someone who gets accidentally shot, well, they just plain deserve it.

Julia Symons is apparently one of the dumbest people in Australia. Being an animal rights wacko and anti-hunting busybody, that puts her right up there, of course, but the thing that put her on top of the list of morondom occurred over the weekend of March 19 at Lake Buloke, Victoria, Australia.

It seems that Mz Symons was one of about 150 dimwitted protesters trying to get between the shotguns of some 2000 legal hunters and the ducks they were shooting at for the first day of duck hunting season at the lake. Like her foolish pals, Symons was trying to disrupt the hunters by jumping into the water and wading dangerously near the shooters to intimidate them into quitting the hunt.

Our Idiotic Courts: Car Gets Stolen, Then Owner’s Held Liable For Theft, Also Trees Get ‘Rights’

-By Warner Todd Huston

All too often it is an upside down world in our American court systems. Here we have two more stories that really argues for the word “impeachment” to get far more of a workout in our nation than it currently does. In one case, a woman whose car was stolen is held liable for the theft of her own car merely because the keys were inside and in the second, more egregious tale, several courts across the land have decided that trees have “rights” not to be cut down.

First up in our cavalcade of lunacy is the case of the stolen car in Nashville, Tennessee. As it happens a car owned by one Rubye Jarrell was stolen and in the course of the theft and the resulting police chase the thief crashed the car into that of the Newman family. The Newman’s promptly sued the police department for daring to chase a thief. The penchant for people to sue police for doing their job is bad enough but even worse, the owner of the car was also charged with “negligence” because her grandson left the keys in the car “in a high crime area.” This is a crime, apparently, because in this foolish court’s opinion a person that leaves keys in a car is just as bad as a thief that steals a car.

This moronic decision absurdly making the victim just as blamable as an actual thief is yet one more example of our overly litigious society. Was it stupid to leave keys in a car? Sure. Should someone so stupid as to leave their keys in their car be surprised that the car gets stolen? If they are surprised they are doubly stupid. But are they liable for the thief’s actions? Hardly.

Professor Bloodlust: Kill All Meat Eating Animals for THEIR Sake?

-By Warner Todd Huston

In the warped moral thinking of the extreme left, all creatures are better off never having existed for their “suffering.” This is, for instance, how in-human leftists excuse abortion. If a child was never born, they contend, he will never suffer.

Well, at least one professor has taken this extreme precept to its ultimate end. In a recent rambling New York Times piece Rutgers philosophy professor Jeff McMahan has proposed that we kill off every meat eating animal (including humans presumably) on earth to stop the “suffering” of their prey.

He proposes that we can do this either by just killing them all, or by some sort of genetic manipulation to breed out their carnivorous propensities. Why should we do this? Because it is the nice, Christian thing to do, of course. Why, think of it, we’d be ending “suffering” on earth he says.

Noblesse Oblige: Obama’s Dog Gets Own Plane on Vacation Trip

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Morning Sentinel, a small paper from the state of Maine, has a travelogue story of the Obama’s vacation in and about Maine today. It has a very interesting little tidbit in it that should enrage every American. It is something that really shows Barack Obama’s arrogance and his obviously assumed air of noblesse oblige.

Among the exciting details of the Obama’s visit to Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor is this tidbit:

Arriving in a small jet before the Obamas was the first dog, Bo, a Portuguese water dog given as a present by the late U.S. Sen Ted Kennedy, D-Mass.…

As the rest of us toil on the unemployment line, as millions of Americans find their retirement accounts dwindling, their hours at work cut, and their pay scale trimmed, King Barack and Queen Michelle are flying their little doggie, Bo, on his own special jet airplane for his own little vacation adventure.

Well, it must be nice to be able to afford to fly your doggie about the country whenever you feel like it. It must be nice to hire people to act as your dog’s escort. It must be comforting to know that you have the power to arrange such luxury for a dog.

Another Grizzly Killer: Have Open Season on all Predators!

-By Don Boys, Ph.D.

Well, another grizzly killed a 70-year-old California man June 16 near Yellowstone. However, we are told that the bear was just being a bear, but then the man is still dead. One grizzly had been captured 20 times and drugged 12 times dragged a man out of his tent at a campground near Yellowstone and killed him. The attacks are increasing and often without any provocation. Moreover, it’s not only grizzly’s that are killers, even black bear attacks on humans have dramatically increased.

It is past time to do something about wild animals. No bear, shark, alligator or mountain lion is worth the life of one human, and I am weary of animal rights fanatics rushing to the defense of vicious predators after an attack on an innocent human.

Fanatics tell us that animals, even the vicious ones, are equivalent to any human and should therefore have the same rights as humans. Alex Pacheco, PETA’s chairman, said, “We feel that animals have the same rights as a retarded human child.” Speaking of retardation! Alex is not only common sense deficient but scripturally deficient because Luke 12:7 tells us, “Ye are of more value than many sparrows.”

Just One More Freedom Crushed: Feds Destroying Exotic Pet Industry

-By Warner Todd Huston

Congress has suddenly realized something. Animals could be dangerous! Gosh. One wonders what magick faierie dust was sprinkled on these stalwart protectors of the public weal that made them realize that animals are dangerous? Whatever fantastic episode befell Congress they have acted and hence these high mukety-mucks last year introduced an ominous sounding bill called the Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act (H.R. 669).

According to the summary this bill is supposed to, “prevent the introduction and establishment of nonnative wildlife species that negatively impact the economy, environment, or other animal species’ or human health, and for other purposes.” But like most federal laws it has an element of overreach to it.

That overreach is a stipulation that would require all dealers in pets to “prove” that their animals are “safe” and “noninvasive” and to present scientific proof to that end. As specified, the act would require, “sufficient scientific and commercial information to allow the Secretary to evaluate whether the proposed nonnative wildlife species is likely to cause economic or environmental harm or harm to other animal species’ or human health.”

News Alert: Bald Eagles Arrested For Eating Endangered Species

-By Warner Todd Huston

Yesterday the State of California arrested several pairs of American Bald Eagles that researchers released into the wild near the Channel Islands. Authorities charged the birds with conspiracy to kill endangered island foxes and rare seabirds for purposes of eating them.

The state’s case was built on the research of Seth D. Newsome, a researcher with the department of zoology and physiology at the University of Wyoming, who determined that the Bald Eagles could begin eating the endangered animals should the availability of the bird’s regular fish-based diet change.

Environmentalists celebrated the arrests saying that if the Bald Eagles refused to abide by federal endangered species laws, then the birds have abdicated their own protected status.

Cuz Animals Are People Too, Ya Know?

-By Warner Todd Huston

I’ve always been amazed at liberals when it comes to their absurd penchant for acting as if animals are somehow just like people. This anthropomorphizing of the animal kingdom is fine if you are talking with kids, reading fairy tales, or creating entertainment, but when you are talking like adults about science or generally about animals there is no place for it. Animals are not people. It’s just that simple.

But apparently we can’t tell that to the left-wingers at NPR because on Dec. 22 on the Morning Edition program we got a pretty silly story about baboons and their “mystical moment” that beggers description.

The story is about a troop of 30 baboons in Kenya that was being observed by professor Barbara Smuts who was studying them for several months. As it happened, one day as Smuts was following the troop back to its sleeping area, the whole troops stopped dead in its tracks.

Here is how NPR described the incident:
