Fox Business Network Video: Henry Kissinger on the Unrest in Syria

-By Warner Todd Huston

Things are still bad in Syria (and all across the Middle East, for that matter). Despite Obama’s claims of great Mid East foreign policy successes, there is still uncertainty and unrest there and Obama is failing to do anything about it all. Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger appeared on Fox Business Network with host Lou Dobbs to discuss the unrest in Syria and its impact on U.S. and Russia.

Uppity, Feminist Journalist Meets Muslims, Gets Arrested, Hilarity Ensues

-By Warner Todd Huston

A left-wing, uppity, feminist, English journalist, a woman quixotically named Cinnamon Heathclote-Drury , got her world turned upside down over the last few months and her own liberalism is what did her in. One has to feel for her, of course, if only a little bit. But still laughter is far quicker to hit you before sympathy comes.

So, imagine the scene. A loud-mouthed, British, feminist journalist sees a woman in a hijab loading a large number of groceries onto the store conveyor belt at check out. She begins fuming with feminist ire because this Muslim woman’s husband stands idly by doing nothing to help the overworked woman load the groceries.

Femi-journo can take it no more and just has to say something. She brusquely confronts the man telling him that his wife needs to help loading the merchandise. She pushes past the man and starts helping the hijab-clad woman herself because, “This is what feminism’s about – women helping women.”

As it happened, neither the Muslim man nor his wife much appreciated the “social lesson” the uppity journalist thought to teach them. And, as so many Muslims in Britain do, they proceeded to play the Brit’s liberalism against them. The couple cried racism and had the journalist arrested for a “hate crime.”

This is so funny on so many levels.

Advocates Want Contraceptives Services Pushed Even if Real Healthcare is Cut

-By Warner Todd Huston

The 2012 London Summit on Family Planning, to be held on July 11, is intended to “mobilize global policy” to assure that 120 million women and girls are afforded family planning, contraceptives and other information. Sponsors of the event want more money put to these services for poor women around the world. But it seems likely funding this new program will take money away from actual healthcare services already offered, especially in a day when economies are failing worldwide.

Claiming, “It has been proven that family planning saves lives, improves health, strengthens communities, and stimulates economic growth,” the London Summit intends to get its funding from the international community in any way it can.

One thing seems certain, it is painfully obvious that these people think of pregnancy as an affliction, something that needs to be stamped out. Also interesting is the focus on the poor in a eugenics-like push to eliminate the lower classes of peoples by encouraging fewer pregnancies.

News Corp to Split Entertainment from Publishing Division

-By Warner Todd Huston

News Corp watchers have been talking about a possible split of Rupert Murdoch’s massive entertainment and publishing empire for sometime and it looks like they are finally on the right side of the guesswork as the News Corp board met on Wednesday to consider separating Murdoch’s entertainment from his publishing division.

For some time Murdoch has resisted calls to split his empire into separate sections — even as recent as last month — but after the wiretapping scandals that hit his British newspapers, the idea seems to have become more acceptable to the media giant.

While the initial meeting was held Wednesday, the final decision might not be known until Thursday and the whole process could take as long as a year to work out.

This is not halving of the corporation, though. The publishing portion of the company is far smaller than the newer education/entertainment division so reports that we are about to witness a “splitting in half” of News Corp is an over statement.

NBC Uses Che Guevara-Loving Illegal Immigration Activist to Denounce Arizona

-By Warner Todd Huston

In a report on the recent Supreme Court decision reversing parts of Arizona’s immigration law, NBC’s Matt Taibbi gave extensive airtime to an activist for illegal immigration. The woman was shown sitting in a room prominently featuring a poster of Cuban communist, terrorist and murderer, Che Guevara, and among other activists wearing “Legalize Arizona” t-shirts. Yet, NBC labeled this woman a mere housewife and mother without noting her status as essentially a lobbyist against America’s immigration laws.

Taibbi sympathetically portrayed Mrs. Leticia Ramirez as “a mother” who just happens to have “been in this country illegally for over a decade,” and a woman just trying to be a good citizen.

Mrs. Ramirez, wearing an activist t-shirt that says “Arrest Arpaio, Not The People; End Police and ICE Collaboration,” said she is worried that the Supreme Court decision will cause fear in her illegal community.

It’s going to affect the whole community because they’re not going to be able to go out, have a normal life. They’re going to be afraid that if we go out they might – we might get stopped just for your color.

Of course, the fact is that laws governing immigration are supposed to do just that, make lawbreakers fear their status. Tougher laws are successful in making illegal entrants self deport. That is why they work.

My Call to the Department of Justice Racism And Civil Liberties HOTLINE!!

-By Warner Todd Huston

My friend SooperMexican sends along the result of his call to Eric Holder’s DOJ Arizona racism hotline.

Says Soops:

When the news broke that the Department of Justice had set up a “hotline” to call in abuses of civil liberties in Arizona after the Supreme Court ruled on SB1070, I didn’t think much of it.

Now, I know that as a Republican white guy I am not allowed to have a friend who is Mexican. But I do. I also have a daughter-in-law who is Mexican. One to be that is from Puerto Rico. And I married a Korean. So, I guess I should turn in my white guy card.

Man That Admitted BBC’s Left-Wing Bias to Head New York Times

-By Warner Todd Huston

Mark Thompson is the outgoing Director of England’s British Broadcasting Corp. and now, word is he’s eyeing a new job over here in the Colonies. Apparently Thompson’s interviewing to become the next chief of the New York Times. Yes, the very BBC chief that was forced to admit that his TV network was hopelessly left biased now wants to take over the most left biased paper in America. Nice fit, I guess.

You may recall that in 2010 Mr. Thompson admitted that the BBC sported a “massive” left-wing bias and that it was “a struggle” to keep the Beeb impartial.

At the time Thompson’s public comments were considered the clearest admission of the BBC’s left-wing bias by a senior staff member.

Then in 2010, Thompson claimed that he was doing his best to eliminate the bias, but even by 2012 he was still doing more admitting, at that point saying that Christianity gets less sensitive treatment on the BBC than other religions.

Obama Invokes Nixonian Executive Privilege But Scolded Bush for the Same Thing

-By Warner Todd Huston

Good for me but not for thee is Obama’s refrain as he invoked Executive Privilege to keep hidden his actions with the disastrous Justice Dept. program called Fast & Furious — a program responsible for several deaths of American law enforcement officers as well as hundreds of Mexican citizens.

In 2007 when George W. Bush fired a small handful of U.S. Attorneys, he invoked Executive Privilege to prevent a Democrat controlled Congress from looking into his firings. At that time Obama went before the cameras of the Larry King Show to denounce Bush for hiding “behind Executive Privilege every time there’s something a little shaky taking place.”

Yet now that Congressional investigators are looking into the disastrous and murderous gun running program sponsored by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Obama is suddenly invoking the very thing he scolded Bush for using.

This Is Why We Are Not Winning The War

by Gary Krasner

Lt. Gen. Curtis Scaparrotti held a press conference in Kabul Monday morning.

After using the term “the enemy” several times, one reporter asked him to clarify what he meant by it. You can read his answer here:

When you cannot designate who your enemy is in one sentence or less, then you are looking at a defeated force.

But Scaparrotti’s meandering answer is just the symptom. His boss, President Obama, won’t even call it a “war”. Rather, it’s an “overseas contingency operation”!

Obama’s Chickens Coming Home To Roost

by Gary Krasner

I don’t know if any pundits took note of the many news items (like the post below) mentioning that thousands of Syrian children are appealing to Obama’s daughters to intervene via military force in Syria.

The banners and placards read the same message:

Malia and Sasha Obama: Tell your father that we are being assassinated. from Children of Syria

Here’s my commentary about this:

GW wanted the media to lay off his daughters. They deserved a life of privacy as much as that was feasible. So GW never made references to them in any public statements. I also personally believe that GW didn’t want his daughters to become so prominent that they would become media-popular and thereby become targets of jihadist violence.

Pondering People Pills: Don’t think it can’t happen here

-By Daniel Clark

According to the U.K. Daily Mail, customs officials in South Korea have confiscated about 17,000 Chinese “miracle cure” capsules, filled with the powdered flesh of aborted and stillborn babies. The existence of these pills was first uncovered last summer by a South Korean documentary, which found that the manufacturers received a regular supply of tissue from a network of affiliated abortion clinics and hospitals.

It’s tempting to assume that this outrage will confine itself to the Far East. After all, reporter Yojana Sharma revealed in a 1995 Daily Telegraph story that, in China, the eating of human fetuses for health reasons is not uncommon. She even obtained a “fist-sized glass bottle stuffed with thumb-sized fetuses” from a state hospital, by pretending to be sick. “Normally, we doctors take them home to eat,” she was told.

That doesn’t sound like the kind of thing we have to worry about over here, where taboos against cannibalism have held up quite nicely over the years. Nevertheless, the Daily Mail story ought to concern Americans, because many other elements conducive to that result are present in our society today.

Civil Rights Make no Appearance in Obama NATO Afghanistan Address

-By Warner Todd Huston

One of George W. Bush’s real achievements in Afghanistan was his push for civil rights for Afghani women. Real successes were had as girls were at last allowed to go to school and women began to enter the realm of Afghan politics. Bush made equal rights for Afghan women a priority. Not so with his successor, Barack Obama, and his speech at the opening of the NATO meeting on Afghanistan was yet another missed opportunity to reassert that drive for civil rights in Afghanistan.

The address before NATO during the opening minutes of the first ISAF meeting on Afghanistan — one with Afghan President Hamid Karzai right there in attendance — was the perfect time to at least mention the ongoing quest for equal rights for women in that region. Sadly, even as these rights have slipped backwards in some areas of Afghanistan in the last few years, Obama eschewed any reference to the subject.

At the end of his brief and perfunctory comments, Obama spoke of the “opportunity to ensure our [that] hard-won progress is preserved” and this would have been the perfect chance to at least mention civil rights for women. Instead, President Obama hewed close to the US support for Afghan security forces. “(A)s Afghans stand up they will not stand alone,” the president said as he hailed the “long-term relationship with Afghanistan beyond 2014” that was being cultivated.

A Blogger at NATO 2012, What I Saw on Day One

-By Warner Todd Huston

I was awarded press credentials for NATO’s 2012 Summit in Chicago and, having no idea what to expect, what I found on day one was a study in contrasts. What occurred was sometimes amusing, often mundane, and sometimes even violent. But it was all democracy in action.

Early on the morning of day one, Sunday, May 20, I boarded a western Metra train under threat of having my equipment bags confiscated or at least me prevented from boarding the train with them. I was not ruffed up the “the man,” though and downtown I went riding high on the rails. Literally. I took a seat on the top tier of the train.

The Summit didn’t start well as the NATO advance video called Chicago the Illinois Capital (It isn’t) and the place where Obama grew up (Again, it isn’t).

Upon reaching the gathering point for the press in beautiful downtown Chicago I boarded the super, double, secret press shuttle bus that took us down the service streets, steering well clear of the surface roads, straight to Chicago’s McCormick Place convention center, site of the NATO Summit.

Of course, before I was allowed on the super, double, secret press bus, bomb-sniffing dogs were loosed to make sure I had no underwear-bomb on my person or in my equipment bags. After I was officially cleared, I boarded the bus with local Chicago TV newsreader Jay Levine.

Everywhere I went there were knots of security personnel. A LOT of security personnel. The last time I saw that many security people I was in Cancun, Mexico during the 2010 UN Climate Conference.

There were members of the FBI, Homeland Security, Chicago Police, the U.S. Marshals as well as U.S. Airmen and Army officers all there on duty to make sure our tender media people were safe and secure.

I was later to learn that out on the streets of Chicago the number of security of all sorts made the way to McCormick Place seem like it was lightly guarded!

Is Fast and Furious the Next Watergate?

-By Alan Caruba

When suspects in a crime are interrogated, they often develop memory loss. When the crime is running guns to drug cartels on both sides of the border, the crime involves the murder of a U.S. Border Patrol officer, Brian Terry, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent, Jaime Zapata, and countless Mexican citizens.

Katie Pavlich has written an extraordinary expose, “Fast and Furious: Barack Obama’s Bloodiest Scandal and its Shameless Cover-Up” (Regnery Publishing). Pavlich, a reporter with extensive contacts within the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) she has meticulously documented a story that should result in contempt of Congress action against Attorney General Eric Holder and possibly Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano as well.

It is an appalling story of arrogance, stupidity, and the intimidation of ATF agents who dared to question and expose the operation. It is a story of deception at the highest levels of our government. Both Holder and Napolitano exhibited memory lapses before a congressional committee. Both knew about a federal government authorized gun-running operation to Mexico called “Fast and Furious.”

Obama’s Narcissism: The Troops are Fighting for Me, Me, Me

-By Warner Todd Huston

Obama revealed the extent of his narcissism, his outsized sense of self-regard, this week during his hasty explanation of his flip flop on the issue of gay marriage. In his ABC News interview Obama waxed poetic about those American troops that he thinks are fighting for him as opposed to fighting for their country.

During his interview, Obama told ABC News’ Robin Roberts that he feels “constrained” in war policy, but it’s what he said before that which startles for its arrogance (my bold for emphasis).

When I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.

Fighting on your behalf, Mr. President? What an amazing conceit. No, Mr. President, our soldiers are fighting for their country not for a particular president. Cesar’s troops fought for him, on “his behalf.” So did Napoleon’s. But our nation has no emperor, Mr. Obama. American troops fight for their country not its leaders or leader.

Ooops: NATO Video Says Chicago is ‘Capital of Illinois’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Obama must not have been paying too much attention to what his folks at NATO have been doing as they prepare for the summit coming up on May 20, 21 in Chicago because the new video touting the gathering has a few whoppers included. Namely that Chicago is the capital of Illinois (it isn’t) and is “the city he grew up in” (he didn’t).

Memory Hole: Vogue Scrubs Syrian Fawning Article of Syrian Dictator’s Wife

-By Warner Todd Huston

Look nuthin’ up my sleeve, presto! In a typical exercise of Old Media “ethics,” with the flip of the proverbial switch, Vogue erased from the Internet tubes its embarrassing puff piece on the wife of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.

In 2011, to much international derision, Vogue published The Rose of the Desert, a puff piece on Asma al-Assad, the wife of the dictator. Unfortunately for Vogue, almost immediately after the piece was published that February, the whole Assad facade began to crumble in a most precipitous way as the revolts and unrest throughout the Middle East grew embroiling Syria along with so many others.

The fawning article of Syria’s first lady crowed about her designer clothing, her western roots, and her serious career in banking making Asma out to be a renaissance woman in the Middle East.

Vogue’s editors tried to defend their piece right after it was released saying the piece was “a way of opening a window into this world a little bit.” But Vogue senior editor Chris Knutsen did sheepishly admit to The Atlantic that Syria is “not as secular as we might like.”

Traitors: American Professors Go to Tehran to Help Mad Mullahs

-By Warner Todd Huston

A couple of so-called American professors recently went to Tehran University to help the radical, anti-American, racist, Islamists propagandize about how wonderful the Mad Mullahs think the Occupy Wall Street “movement” here in America is.

Wonderful, no?

Anti-Americans Alex Vitae, professor at Brooklyn College, Heather Gautney, professor at Fordham University, John Hammond, professor at City University of New York all appeared at the terrorist’s little convention to speak glowingly of the hate spewed by both the OWSers and the Mad Mullahs.

The fact that the Mad Mullahs love the OWS “movement” says an awful lot about what the true nature of OWS is, doesn’t it? It’d be like being on the KKK’s Christmas card list!

Revisionism: Old Timer Phil Donahue Injects Racism Into 2002 Iraq War Vote

-By Warner Todd Huston

Old-timer Phil Donahue, about who rumor has it used to have some sort of TV show back in the previous century, has recently turned up on NPR for some unexplainable reason. And, like his long past career, he’s dwelling equally in the past with his new comments about the authorization of force against Iraq in 2002. But he’s adding a new spin to the now irrelevant discussion by adding to it all one of the left’s favorite tropes: racism.

You see, according to Donahue, racism sullied the decision to authorize George Bush to intervene in Iraq in 2002. How is that, you ask? Well, according to Donahue it’s because none of the blacks in Congress voted for the war.

What does that mean? To Donahue it means that these African American congressmen were better, smarter, and free of racism, I guess. Only whites wanted to kill innocent Iraqis, hence the racism.

On NPR’s Smiley & West show*, Donahue floated the idea that all the African Americans — in fact he said “every person of color” — voted against the war in Iraq. Apparently, Donahue thinks that this is because all “the white people in Congress” are racists.

Suddenly The Actor IS a Reason Condemn a Movie?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Left-wingers have for years complained that conservatives are wrong to condemn a movie based on the outspoken nature or politics of a staring actor or director.

“It’s just a movie,” they tell us and they scold us for not separating the entertainment from the actor’s real life. But now, in a typical hypocritical move, left-wingers are condemning a movie that is in the works precisely because of who is involved in the project, Mel Gibson, someone they do not like. It is hard not to recognize the hypocrisy here.

The movie is a sword and sandals piece based on the epic 2nd Century B.C. battle of Jewish hero Juddah Maccabee, whose victory over the Greek and Syrian armies forms a central part of Hanukkah. Gibson has been working on the movie for quite a while and planned to direct.

Healthcare Death Panels Are Inevitable

-By Warner Todd Huston

Much was made of Governor Sarah Palin’s use of the term “government death panels” to lambaste Obamacare. Left-wingers and Democrats everywhere scoffed at the term and accused Palin of demagogy and even lying. But the fact is, government death panels of all sorts are inevitable once government takes over healthcare. In fact, once government takes over healthcare, all sorts of unscientific, non-health related nonsense creeps into your healthcare whether you like it or not and none of these decisions are made with your doctor’s advice or consent.

To understand this we have but to look to countries that already have government provided healthcare to see many incidents of the foolishness that is government control of medicine. Arbitrary decisions are made, people are told they are too old to bother with and treatments are too late to save the patient because of long wait times.

Worse, are the cases where government lackeys use non-medical criteria to replace medical considerations such as a recent case in Britain where a woman was told she can no longer get her healthcare because her travel distance makes her “carbon footprint” too big.

Media Matters’ Resident Anti-Semite Steps Down

-By Warner Todd Huston

MJ Rosenberg, the controversial and virulently anti-Israel Senior Foreign Policy Fellow at Media Matters Action Network, announced in his latest blog posting that he is leaving his $130,000 plus per year job at the organization.

In his Friday, April 6, post, Rosenberg said he is leaving Media Matters because his continued presence is causing “possible harm” to the organization due to his “critical writings about Israel.”

My presence here is being used in an effort to shut Media Matters up. That won’t happen, of course. This is an incredibly successful organization. (Just ask Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh – or Rupert Murdoch, for that matter — about its impact). But the last thing I want to do is allow the right to use my support for a reinvigorated Middle East peace process to distract Media Matters from its primary mission: fighting for truth in the media.

Rosenberg is putting it lightly to say he is but “critical” of Israel.

Will Media Apologize for Airing Anti-Apple Computer Activist’s False Claims?

-By Warner Todd Huston

When it broke, the Old Media was all over Mike Daisey’s story of the horrid working conditions at Apple Computer’s foreign manufacturing plants. The story had oppressed workers, pathos, and best of all, eeevil corporate greed. Daisey was well on the road to making Apple the liberal’s newest bete noire and was being hailed as the next Upton Sinclair. Until, that is, it became clear that he made it all up.

One of the first major media outlets to push Daisey’s anti-Apple claims was the program This American Life aired on the venerable Public Radio station WBEZ. The program featured Daisey’s claims in a January episode, but has now been faced with the “difficult news,” as representatives of the show have said, of Daisey’s fabrication.

Ignoring Islamo-Fascism at our Peril

-By Alan Caruba

In early November 2009 Americans were shocked to learn that an Army psychiatrist, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, had shot and killed twelve soldiers at Fort Hood, Texas, and wounded thirty-one others. Because of the unrelenting political correctness prevailing in the Army and other services, all the signs that Hasan was a ticking time bomb were ignored.

Hasan was known to be a Muslim, had exhibited signs of a growing fanaticism, occasionally showed up in the post exchange dressed in Arab garb, and as it turned out later, was being mentored by Yemen’s al Qaeda leader, Anwar al-Awlaki , an American citizen who was later killed by a drone strike. As Hasan stood before the soldiers, firing at them, he yelled “Allah Akbar.”

This and other attacks, planned, failed, and thwarted occurred before and since 9/11; an attack that stunned Americans, all contribute to the worldwide terrorism intended to bring about the domination of Islam. Not only has the memory faded, but in 2009 the Obama administration did away with the earlier description of “a war on terrorism”, it ordered the Pentagon to replace it with “overseas contingency operations.”

The administration’s magical thinking about the Islamo-fascist threat makes one wonder why it has a Department of Homeland Security.

This is What Guns Were Made For

-By Warner Todd Huston

One of the main purposes for guns in the American philosophy is certainly a controversial idea. It is an aspect of the Second Amendment that few people today are comfortable talking about, but, uncomfortable or no, it is a major factor in the necessity and usefulness of the Second Amendment in our founding father’s experience. That purpose, that guns in the hands of the people are a breaker on the power of the state, is an issue raised again in last week’s story out of Canada.

In Ontario, Canada Jessie Sansone, a young father of four, was grabbed up by the local storm troopers and charged with a gun crime. He was thrown in jail for most of the day, not allowed to see his wife and children, was repeatedly interrogated, and it seems threatened with having his children taken away from him and his wife. His crime?

You won’t believe this…

Damascus Must be Destroyed!

-By Don Boys, Ph.D.

Every time Cato the Elder (born 234 B.C.) spoke to the Roman Senate, whatever the subject, he ended each speech with, “And Carthage [on the coast of North Africa] must be defeated.” After many years, it was.
Likewise, Damascus, Syria is the oldest inhabited city in the world and will be destroyed as was predicted in Isaiah 17:1, “Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.” Is that prophesy about to take place before our eyes on television news?

Flavius Josephus in his Antiquities of the Jews, reveals that Damascus was founded by Uz, the son of Aram. He reports that Nicolaus of Damascus, in the fourth book of his History, says, “Abraham reigned at Damascus, being a foreigner, who came with an army out of the land above Babylon, called the land of the Chaldeans: but, after a long time, he got him up, and removed from that country also, with his people, and went into the land then called the land of Canaan, but now the land of Judea.” That means Damascus was a thriving city by about 2000 B.C. since that was the approximate date of Abraham’s birth.

The almost dry Barada River (Cold River) runs through Damascus and is the same as the Abana River mentioned in relation to Captain Naaman as recorded in II Kings 5:12. In the 80’s I did a driving tour from Jerusalem to Amman (Jordan) to Damascus to Beirut, Lebanon. I visited Damascus and spent time at the Abana River as well as the street called Straight mentioned in relation to the Apostle Paul. The street is two miles long and is now in a very poor area whereas in Paul’s day it was a magnificent thoroughfare lined with columns.
