Moderate Republicans Finally Found Someone They Will Fight… Other Republicans

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Republican establishment led by such folks as Senators Mitch McConnell and John McCain don’t want to fight the Democrats. But after this latest Obamacare funding fight, we have discovered that there is a side they will attack: other Republicans.

Those Republicans who voted “yes” on Friday’s cloture vote in the Senate knowingly voted in favor of funding Obamacare. There is no other way around that simple truth.

There was absolutely no doubt that a “yes” vote would give Democrat leader Harry Reid the power to remove all the features that the House put in the budget bill that would defund Obamacare. GOP “yes” voters knew this without doubt. And, true to that assumption, only minutes after the DR was passed with Republican assistance, Reid did just that. He stripped out all aspect of defunding from the CR budget bill.

Yet, twenty-five Republicans voted “yes,” anyway.

Even while these RINO senators were turning tail and running from the fight against Obamacare and refusing to fight the Democrats, they did find a reason to attack someone. They attacked Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, and all conservatives that want to be rid of Obamacare.

HuffPo’s Non-Movie Review: Brandon Darby’s ‘Informant’ is ‘Misogynistic’?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Brandon Darby, one-time liberal activist and now a Breitbart contributor, is the subject of Informant, a new film about his journey through the left’s grievance factory and the act of domestic terrorism he helped the FBI thwart. But Huffington Post is not very happy about it all. In fact, in his quasi review of the film, HuffPo’s Kris Hermes is more upset at Darby for “undermining” the left than he is at folks on his own side that wanted to kill Americans with firebombs.

At the outset Hermes admits that he has no intention to actually review the film in his film review saying, “I ultimately decided to review Informant not for its content.” But instead Hermes announced he intended to use his piece to name call, gripe about Dabry’s actions, and dismiss any wrongdoing from his compatriots in left-wing activism.

Hermes gets right to the name calling, too. In his first paragraph, Hermes calls Darby a “right-wing propagandist,” in his third he oddly calls Darby a “misogynist” and in between he claims that the FBI exists to “criminalize entire Muslim and Arab-American communities” and says Darby did the same thing; “criminalize fellow (left-wing) activists.”

Colorado Dem Senators Get Recalled, PPP Polling Throws Out Own Poll Foreshadowing Results

-By Warner Todd Huston

Today we have a great example of a polling firm allowing its political ideology to get in the way of its work. On Tuesday, Sept. 10, two anti-Second Amendment State Senators in Colorado were recalled by huge margins. In the days before the recall vote took place, Public Policy Polling (PPP) had conducted a poll that showed that the senators were about to be eliminated by voters but the firm refused to publish its own poll because the left-wing pollsters couldn’t imagine the results could possibly be right. Colorado just couldn’t be that right-leaning, PPP thought.

State Senate President John Morse (D, Col. Springs) and Sen. Angela Giron (D, Pueblo) lost their bid to retain their seats

Firstly to explain what occurred in the recall vote, and this is a great victory for Second Amendment supporters, too, we need to expound a bit on the whole thing.

State Senate President John Morse and fellow Senator Angela Giron were two principal supporters of the strict new anti-Second Amendment gun laws that were forced onto Colorado in the aftermath of the shooting in an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.

But Morse and Giron pushed these anti-gun laws contrary to the wishes of their own constituents. After the laws were forced down Coloradan’s throats, both Morse and Giron admitted that they ignored their own voters and did so for their own good and were proud that they did so.

A recall effort began almost immediately and both were successfully cast into a recall election by local, grassroots organizers who gathered the requisite number of signatures to get the recall elections scheduled.

But in the run up to the recall elections hundreds of thousands of dollars in political spending flooded the two districts. Most of this outside money was from left-wing organizations attempting to defeat the local gun-supporters and their effort to recall the two senators. The recall election became an important battle ground between the constitution-hating left and supporters of the Second Amendment.

On September 10, the recall election was held and both were recalled handily. It was the first time any state lawmaker has ever been recalled.

Now, back to the polling company PPP.

Typical: Democrats Trying to Steal the Recall Election in Colorado

-By Warner Todd Huston

Currently in Colorado there is a recall election being staged for two Democrat State Senators. Naturally, Democrats have already been caught trying to steal this election with rampant voter fraud.

Senate President John Morse and Pueblo Senator Angela Giron, both Democrats, are being recalled because of their anti-Second Amendment votes and because they have systematically ignored the will of their constituents by voting along with the desires of the national Democrat Party instead of on local issues.

These two elections are fraught with national significance and a ton of outside money from the left, and some but not nearly as much from the right, have flooded these two districts.

Because of the national profile of these elections as a fight over the Second Amendment, Democrats are desperate to win and–as usual–will break any law to force that win.

In the video you see Democrats being accused of stuffing the ballot boxes with perhaps hundreds of illicit ballots dropped off when the election itself is supposed to be a walk-in vote only with only “hardship” ballots mailed in or dropped off early.

Figures, doesn’t it? Thieves and crooks will never change their spots and you can’t be a Democrat without those indelible spots in full bloom.

Louisiana Dem. Senator Landrieu ‘Embarrassed’ to Travel in Europe Because Americans Lack Health Insurance

-By Warner Todd Huston

Louisiana’s Democrat Senator Mary Landrieu is embarrassed by America. So embarrassed that she can’t travel in Europe because some Americans lack health insurance. Naturally, many Americans would be happy to donate to a fund to give Landrieu a one-way ticket to her choice of European countries.

Landrieu was speaking at the Legis-Gator luncheon hosted by the Chamber Southwest Louisiana on August 16 when she made the remarks.

She first said that she was quite proud of her vote for Obama’s take over of America’s healthcare system. “If I had to vote for the bill again, I would vote for it tomorrow,” she said.

She went on to announce her embarrassment over America. “It’s embarrassing to me to go to places like France and Spain … and their workers all manage to have health insurance that can’t be taken away.”

Landrieu is up for re-election in 2014.

The news report then notes,

Illinois Conservatives Criticize Rauner Over Tribune Photo

-By Warner Todd Huston

Friday morning’s Chicago Tribune (8/16/13) featured a photo of businessman and GOP candidate for Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner getting a big smooch on the lips from “friend and supporter Susan Petty.” The phot got many conservatives up in arms.

Venture capitalist Bruce Rauner, a Republican candidate for Illinois governor, kisses friend and supporter Susan Petty on Thursday after riding to the Illinois State Fair in Springfield on his motorcycle. Thursday was Republican Day at the fair. (Tribune caption)

The photo, taken by John J. Kim at the Republican Day event at the Illinois State Fair, raised criticism from several directions. Some raised concerns about moral issues and some found it a telling illustration of political coalition building.

First of all the woman delivering the smooch is one Susan Petty, a political operative who was until the end of July on the payroll of Adam Andrzejewski’s For the Good of Illinois.

Life Inside the White House: Obama Staffers Reflect

-By Warner Todd Huston

This is a very interesting panel assembled to relate their experiences of working in the White House for Barack Obama.

If you can get past the slobbering love they have for the worst president in American history–a sycophancy that is to be expected of true believers such as these–it is nonetheless quite interesting to hear their experiences about actually working inside the People’s House.

The video was made by the University of Chicago. The panelists are Jon Favreau, former director of speechwriting for President Obama; Katie McCormick Lelyveld, former press secretary for First Lady Michelle Obama; Chris Lu, Cabinet secretary and former assistant to the President; and Elizabeth Jarvis Shean, former White House research director.

The moderator was Kenneth Walsh, chief White House correspondent for U.S. News and World Report and author of the book “Prisoners of the White House.”

Facebook Removes GOP Texas Attorney General’s New Campaign Ad

-By Warner Todd Huston

Again showing how easy it is to have conservatives blocked or removed from Facebook, the new video campaign ad for Dan Branch, the Republican candidate for Texas Attorney General, was removed from the social media giant for “community standards” violations.

The ad, a fairly standard campaign ad, was removed and the candidate’s page blocked likely because Branch’s opponents flagged the Facebook posting.

The theme of the ad is “Come And Take It!,” and is filled with images of flags, pledges, hand holding, people in prayer, and talk of limited government, traditional marriage, and pro-life issues. It’s all pretty standard fare, especially for a Texas Republican.

Republican Elites DID Seek to Keep Federal Oversight on State Elections

-By Warner Todd Huston

Last week PJ Media posted a short story that reported that certain operatives in the Republican Party establishment wanted to buck the Supreme Court of the United States of America and look to ways to re-instate federal oversight over elections and redistricting in southern states. The Republican National Committee immediately denied the report and said they absolutely were not looking to re-impose federal oversight on the states.

In June the Supreme Court (SCOTUS) struck down part of the voting rights law and returned oversight of redistricting and elections back to the several southern states. Since 1965 these states had to plead to the federal government to get approval for such things all due to civil rights violations during the days of Jim Crow.

This decision was hailed by conservatives as a move in the right direction but Obama’s racebaiting Attorney General, Eric Holder, has vowed to return the states back to federal oversight quite despite what the SCOTUS decided.

Now, in the original PJ Media report (RNC Operatives Join Holder’s Campaign Against Texas, Several Other States), it was reported that “the RNC have been spending RNC donations plotting to do exactly what Eric Holder is seeking to do–return Texas and other states to federal oversight.”

More Anthony Weiner Sex Texts Revealed

-By Warner Todd Huston

Anthony Weiner lost his seat in Congress in 2011 because he was caught exchanging sexually explicit messages (including naked photos) with a woman that was not his wife. This year he’s running for mayor of New York City but today he’s been exposed–if you will–in yet another sexting scandal..

Weiner has admitted that it is all true, too.

Here is his statement on the new allegations:

I said that other texts and photos were likely to come out, and today they have. As I have said in the past, these things that I did were wrong and hurtful to my wife and caused us to go through challenges in our marriage that extended past my resignation from Congress. While some things that have been posted today are true and some are not, there is no question that what I did was wrong. This behavior is behind me. I’ve apologized to Huma and am grateful that she has worked through these issues with me and for her forgiveness. I want to again say that I am very sorry to anyone who was on the receiving end of these messages and the disruption that this has caused. As my wife and I have said, we are focused on moving forward.

Weiner may try to characterize all this as merely being part of his earlier scandal, but it appears that the dates of this sexting scandal comes after the scandal that had him ejected from Congress.

It seems clear that he continued the very behavior that caused him to lose his seat in Congress even after he lost that seat.

What has he learned? Seemingly nothing at all.

Amusingly, he went by the false name “Carlos Danger” in these newest Tweets.

Now that right there is funny

One Way Liberals are Just Like Radical Islamists

-By Warner Todd Huston

With the bankruptcy of Detroit in the news, a recent compilation of the many failures of the Motor City reveals one stat that shows how liberals are similar to radical Islamists at least in as much as they want to keep their people illiterate, stupid and easily controlled.

Tyler Durden of Zero Hedge blog has a very disheartening post titled, “25 Facts About The Fall Of Detroit That Will Leave You Shaking Your Head,” and aside from giving us a perfect example of how liberal policies are an abject failure in every case, it also shows one stat that proves an essentially evil aspect of liberalism.

His point number nine is this: “An astounding 47 percent of the residents of the city of Detroit are functionally illiterate.” (Durden cited CBS Detroit for his stat.)

Correspondingly, upwards to 70 percent of the Muslim world cannot read.

WaPost Enlisting ‘Hispanic Media’ To Attack GOP

-By Warner Todd Huston

Greg Sargent of The Washington Post is very concerned that if the Republicans don’t rush through an amnesty bill, it might cause the “Hispanic media” to get mad at least he says so in his latest entry at The Plum Line blog. There, Sargent warns that the “GOP will get a beatdown by the Hispanic media” by slowing immigration reform.

Sargent sourly notes that Republicans in the House are putting the brakes on any forward momentum in favor of amnesty and “see no urgency whatsoever about acting this summer on immigration reform.”

Of course, many of these Republicans, the Post writer says, “won’t feel any pressure to act on reform” because they are in safe, conservative districts.

CNN’s Evident Bias on Supreme Court Decisions

-By Warner Todd Huston

Over the last several days in the last week of June the Supreme Court of the U.S. (SCOTUS) handed down two important decisions, one striking down part of the 1965 Voting Rights Act and one striking down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) leading to a renewed national dialog in the issues. But for CNN the rulings were just another opportunity to analyze the decisions from a decidedly leftward point of view.

According to a review of CNN’s coverage of the June 25 and 26 Supreme Court decisions conducted by the Media Research Center, the cable network’s coverage of the rulings showed a decided leftward tilt.

In the case of the June 25 Voting Act decision, CNN featured four times as many critics of the decision as supporters.

Senator Corker: 11 Million ‘Citizens’ Are ‘in the Shadows’ Today

-By Warner Todd Huston

During further debate of the Senate’s immigration bill on the floor of the Senate in the late afternoon of June 25, Tennessee’s Republican Senator, Bob Corker, claimed that 11 million “citizens” are “in the shadows today” and proclaimed himself “thrilled” to vote for the amnesty bill under discussion.

The Senator is a big supporter of the current amnesty bill and spoke in its favor saying, “We have the opportunity to immediately affect, in a positive way, 11 million citizens who are in the shadows today–in many ways already a part of our society–and can come out and be even more productive for the United States of America. I am thrilled to have that opportunity…”

According to this statement, in Corker’s estimation the 11 million illegal immigrants being talked about in the current debate in the Senate are already “citizens.”

Senator Corker has also been critical of conservative news coverage of the immigration debate saying that reports have been misleading.

Has DOJ Given McConnell Bugging Suspect ‘Journalist’ Status?

-By Warner Todd Huston

A recent Politico story seems to indicate that the Department of Justice is stymied on its prosecution of the political activist that recorded a private campaign meeting between Senator Mitch McConnell and his staff because the DOJ considers the activist a “journalist” and wants to tread gingerly as a result.

The “bugging” incident came to light early in April when a recording of the private, closed-door meeting was released by Mother Jones magazine. It was soon revealed that Curtis Morrison, a political activist that works for the left wing political group Progress Kentucky, used his flip cam to record what he could hear of the meeting through a closed door in McConnell’s Senate offices.

Even with charges of illegal recording–essentially a bugging–Morrison is unbowed. In an op ed in Salon.com he was defiant saying he’d do it all over again, illegal or not.

Mayor of Illinois’ 3rd Largest City Quits Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns Group

-By Warner Todd Huston

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s anti-Second Amendment group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, has lost another member, this time the mayor of Rockford, Illinois–the state’s third largest city.

At a townhall-styled event sponsored by the Rockford Tea Party on June 22 in Loves Park, Illinois, Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey announced that he has, indeed, quit Mayor Bloomberg’s gun group because Bloomberg’s group was not fulfilling what Morrissey felt was the group’s stated intentions.

Morrissey has for some time been saying he intended to quit the anti-gun group and some citizens wondered if this was just electioneering, but at this most recent townhall event, Mayor Morrissey has for the first time said definitively that he is out.

In the video shot by local political blogger Ulysses Arn, Mayor Morrissey said the chief reason he left Bloomberg’s group is because he thought the group would be against illegal guns but has instead become a group looking for ways to ban legal guns and attack the rights of legal gun owners. He also said that he intends to get a concealed carry license himself when they become available in Illinois.

Morrissey also made a salient point about the sort of guns Bloomberg’s group keeps harping on. The mayor pointed out that the sort of gun crime he sees in Rockford has nothing whatever to do with “assault rifles” but is instead criminal use of handguns. Yet Bloomberg’s group seems chiefly interested in so-called assault rifles despite the fact that little crime is committed by criminals using assault rifles.

Poll: Words Like ‘Incompetent’ and ‘Liar’ Most Used to Describe Obama

-By Warner Todd Huston

Pew Polling firm has found an interesting change in the way President Obama is being described with the use of words like “incompetent” and “liar” on the rise.

The latest Pew poll finds that one-word impressions of Obama are turning negative more often than they have in the past. Until now, Pew says, these wholly negative one-word impressions were “rare.”

The survey finds that the one-word impressions people have of Obama have changed a great deal throughout his presidency. Terms like incompetent and liar now are among the most frequently used words to describe Obama. In April 2009, when his job approval was at 63%, these words were rare.

Pew also found that the word “socialist” is used in nearly the same proportion as it has been used since he first took office, showing that the President has not succeeded in knocking down the perception that he is a socialist.

The President is also viewed negatively on civil liberties.

Colorado Sen. Who Spearheaded Anti-Gun Laws Close to Recall

-By Warner Todd Huston

In the aftermath of the crime at a Colorado movie theater where 12 people were murdered, the Colorado State legislature quickly moved to adopt stricter gun laws and Senate President John Morse led that effort. But now, after his anti-gun bills were successfully passed into law, Morse faces a recall election that could turn him out of office.

On June 18, Colorado certified that the recall effort had gained enough signatures to move forward making Senator leader Morse the first legislator to ever be recalled in the state’s history.

Morse, a Democrat from Colorado Springs, has been in the legislature for seven years and for a short time was the police chief of Fountain, Colorado. He became Senate majority leader in 2009 after the former occupant of that office resigned to join the Obama administration.

Senator Morse not only supported but championed the new laws that limited ammunition magazines to 15 rounds or less and mandated that background checks be performed even for private transactions on gun sales. Morse also strongly supported several other, even stricter measures but they failed to pass.

Despite the complaints of constituents, the Senator is wholly unapologetic for his strong support of the new gun laws.

Obama Claims He Doesn’t Want to ‘Tax All Businesses Out of Business’

-By Warner Todd Huston

During a recent fundraiser, President Obama told an audience that he and the Democrats don’t want to tax all business out of business. He also said he doesn’t believe in “top down” government.

The President made these comments at a private residence in Palo Alto, California during a Democratic Senatorial campaign fundraiser in the first week of June.

“I know that there are a few Republicans here in the audience,” he said to those gathered. “If you talk to us, it turns out, you know, we’re pretty common-sense folks.”

“We don’t think government can do everything. We don’t think that top-down solutions are the right way to go. We believe in the free market. We believe in a light touch when it comes to regulations. We don’t want to tax all businesses out of business. But we do think that there’s a role to play for government.”

Barack Obama has made this claim many times on the hustings, but his actions have often been at odds with this campaign rhetoric.

Susan Rice Gets Pass While Media Discounted Condi Rice

-By Warner Todd Huston

Noah Rothman recently did an excellent job detailing what the progressive media said about Condoleeza Rice when George W. Bush appointed her as his Secretary of State in 2005. Rothman noted how the media dismissed Condi Rice as merely a “friend” of Bush and otherwise made it seem as if her appointment was just a payoff for loyalty instead of the appointment of a qualified person. In contrast, Obama’s appointment of Susan Rice as his national security advisor is not being so quickly dismissed by that same media establishment.

Rothman quoted a series of members of the media from 2005 dismissing Condi rather spectacularly as having received her nomination simply because of the “loyalty” factor.

Inter Press Service Washington Bureau Chief Jim Lobe, for instance, said that Condi was appointed “as much for her fierce personal loyalty to Bush as for her own foreign-policy views.”

Christian Science Monitor diplomacy correspondent Howard LaFranchi complained that Condi’s appointment meant that “no fresh new voices will be challenging White House thinking or offering debating points in policy discussions.”

The New York Times ravaged the appointment as an example of “friends of George” being foisted on Washington.

Google Hires Obama’s Campaign E-Team

-By Warner Todd Huston

The hand-in-hand nature of this White House and some of the nation’s biggest corporations is seen in yet another incident as Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign data team is now moving from team Obama to team Google.

This week, Bloomberg reported that Obama’s data mining team, used to such great effect during his 2012 re-election for president, has been hired nearly wholesale to go work for Google.

This may not come as such a great surprise, however, as Google’s Executive Chairman, Eric Schmidt, helped organize and run Obama’s re-election e-team.

Schmidt “helped recruit talent, choose technology, and coach the campaign manager, Jim Messina, on the finer points of leading a large organization,” Bloomberg reports.

Since he came onto the national political scene, Barack Obama has campaigned like a veritable David vs Goliath with evil corporations standing in for Goliath while Obama presents himself as David loading his sling shot to do battle. But the reality is not quite that cut and dried and Google has been a big recipient of Obama’s largesse.

Obama Solutions: ‘Rogue IRS Agent’ Promoted

Mayor Bloomberg’s Anti-Gun Group Launches Ad Campaign Against Senator Mark Pryor

-By Warner Todd Huston

Living up to his promise to attack even Democrats that he deems insufficiently anti-gun, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced an ad buy to criticize Arkansas’ Democrat Senator Mark Pryor.

Pryor, who will be running for a third term in 2014, recently voted against the Toomey-Manchin anti-gun bill drawing the ire of Bloomberg and his Mayors Against Illegal Guns group.

Bloomberg’s group has announced a $350 thousand buy for a two-week campaign.

The video ad features former Democratic staffer Angela Bradford-Barnes mourning the loss of Democrat Party chairman Bill Gwatney who was shot to death in 2008 as he worked at party headquarters in Little Rock.

No motive for the shooting was ever determined by police.

In the anti-Pryor ad, Angela Bradford-Barnes mentions Gwatney’s murder and then says that she was “disappointed when Mark Pryor voted against comprehensive background checks.”

Obama’s Attorney General Hypocrisy: Alberto Gonzalez vs Eric Holder

-By Warner Todd Huston

In 2007 when Barack Obama was running for President the first time there was a controversy raging over whether U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez was right to accede to President Bush’s order to fire a handful of U.S. attorneys. Obama then criticized the AG for politicizing the office. Flash forward to 2013 and he’s now standing up for an AG that is far worse than what he claimed Gonzalez ever was.

The controversy over Gonzalez was a manufactured, fake, left-wing nothing of a controversy, of course, because U.S. attorneys serve at the President’s discretion and many presidents have fired theirs. Clinton fired all of his and even Carter fired one for “political reasons.”

In any case, then Senator Obama went on CNN’s Larry King Live to rip Bush and to say that his AG was acting too politically.

Obama criticized AG Gonzalez for seeming to think his role is “being the president’s attorney instead of being the people’s attorney.” Obama also claimed that Gonzales should be fired because he wasn’t “somebody who was actually trying to look out for the American people’s interests.”

Rush Limbaugh Does Live in Obama’s Head

-By Warner Todd Huston

On May 14 after news broke that President Obama had once again attacked talk radio host Rush Limbaugh by name, El Rusbo joked that he was “living rent-free in Obama’s head.” It’s hard to fault Limbaugh’s logic on this. After all, the President of the United States of America has used his bully pulpit to bully Rush nearly a dozen times since he became President.

Remembering that Rush Limbaugh is but a voice on the radio and has no vote in any government, hasn’t the ability to wield the power of regulation, and cannot force anyone to do anything under the cover of law, here are some of the times that President Obama went out of his way to kick Limbaugh and did so by name, not just with a general allusion (starting with the most recent):

At a New York fundraiser on May 13, 2013

Meeting with denizens of Hollywood at a fundraiser, President Obama complained that he, the most powerful man in the western world, couldn’t get anything done in Washington because a single radio host stood in his way.

“I genuinely believe there are Republicans out there who would like to work with us, but they’re fearful of their base and they’re concerned about what Rush Limbaugh might say about them. And as a consequence, we get the kind of gridlock that makes people cynical about government,” Obama said.

Turning Texas Blue: Obama Tours Austin

-By Warner Todd Huston

President Obama recently conducted a “tech tour” of Austin, Texas looking to get more federal money sent to support Austin’s tech boom.

The visit is part of a new campaign Obama is conducting across the country to cajole Congress into adopting some of the economic ideas he offered in his last State of the Union speech and his budget proposal.

In a visit to Applied Materials Inc., Obama said, “We’re poised for a time of progress, if we’re willing to seize it.”

The “it” he wants seized is greater federal spending. Obama has a long history on supporting “green” and tech spending on failed companies like Solyndra, Fisker Motors, and a score of other such bankrupted companies.

The President also warned that if Congress allowed “sequestration” to cut off funds to tech companies and research “We could end up losing our edge” to companies in Asia.
