AP: Gosnell’s Gruesome Assistants ‘Only Following Orders’

-By Warner Todd Huston

In shades of the Nuremberg Trials, an April 12 article from the Associated Press seems to excuse away the actions of the assistants of accused criminal abortionist Kermit Gosnell as “only following orders.”

For the AP, Maryclaire Dale begins her piece with that very sentiment saying, “They say they were just doing what the boss trained them to do.”

Incredibly, throughout the article, Dale seems to absolve these assistants for the horrible things they did, softening the guilt of nearly every person accused of crimes with excuses.

In some cases, Dale claims that these accused assistants had a hard time finding jobs before Gosnell gave them a shot at killing babies born alive. According to Dale, one had to work for Gosnell because she had “post-traumatic stress syndrome.” Dale excuses others because they were somehow related tangentially to fiendish Doctor Gosnell.

Bomb Threat at Office of Ariz. Sheriff Joe Arpaio

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Friday morning, April 12, a package suspected of containing an explosive device was addressed to the offices of the Maricopa County, Arizona, Sheriffs offices of Joe Arpaio, known as “America’s toughest sheriff.”

The package was intercepted by postal authorities in Flagstaff and was submitted to an X-ray scan that showed what looked like an explosive device hidden inside.

Postal authorities said that the package was flagged by a “very astute” carrier who thought the thing was suspicious.

The bomb squad was quickly called and the suspicious package was destroyed.

An Interview With Chad Koppie, Running for U.S. Senate From Illinois

-By Warner Todd Huston

Chad Koppie has decided to throw his hat in the ring for the 2014 race for Senate and recently I took a few minutes to get an idea of what issues interest him. Koppie is both fiscally as well as socially conservative and has several considered ideas about how things need to be.

Koppie is a conservative Republican from Kane County and currently sits on the Kane County Regional Board of Schools. He has also been a township trustee, a school board member, and a hospital board member in his county. He’s run for other offices, most recently for Senate in 2008.

In 2008, Koppie ran under the Constitution Party banner for Senate. You can see his presentation at WTTW T’s “free time” segment from 2008.

His bio states: “Chad Koppie is strongly pro-life, pro-gun rights, and anti-illegal alien. He wants to repeal Obamacare. He wants to help eliminate the Dept. of Education, audit the Federal Reserve, and cut all other federal spending by 3%, per year, for 10 years. He supports a federal flat tax. He supports a balanced budget amendment, for the Constitution.”

I began our discussion asking him about the Illinois establishment GOP. I wondered how he was going to get their support. Turns out, he didn’t intend to worry much about the establishment and plans on reaching out to the grassroots to launch his campaign.

Ill Urges Gay Couples to File ‘As if Married’ on Federal Taxes

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Illinois Review noticed an interesting thing about the instructions for the State of Illinois 2012 tax returns. Illinois is urging gay couples to file as “married.”

As IR notes, tax filings may be a bit confusing for same sex couple in Illinois. The Land of Lincoln allows for civil unions, but the federal government does not, so figuring out how to file may be a bit of a challenge.

The instructions get even more confusing because the Illinois civil union law does not require couples to denote whether they are same sex when filing for civil union licenses. However, the Illinois tax form and instructions explicitly refer to same-sex couples civil unions and denotes other, special instructions for opposite sex civil unions.

At the top of the tax form, the IL-1040 has a check box option for same-sex couples that reads: “D. Check if same-sex civil union return (see Instructions)”

Here is a scan of the front page of the instruction booklet…

Here is a scan of the actual instructions…

The CA Bill That Would Shut Down Every Small Restaurant

-By Warner Todd Huston

The State of California has one of the worst proposals of any legislature in the country this year with a new bill that would force every restaurant and food service business in the state to commission an expensive “risk assessment” test for every menu item, a test that could cost thousands of dollars for every food item sold. This outrageous and cost prohibitive testing would certainly cause all but the biggest chain restaurants to go out of business almost instantly.

In another exercise in nanny-statism, California’s State Senate Democrats want this “risk assessment” conducted to determine whether food being sold “contributes significantly to a significant public health epidemic.”

The bill, Senate Bill 747, is an addition to the current health and safety codes and is currently set for a hearing on April 17. It was written and introduced by Sen. Mark DeSauliner (D, Concord).

The introduction of the bill clearly says that the law would require the food service companies to pay the state for the testing in order to fill state coffers and notes that without the assessment, the state would have the right to shut an offending restaurant down.

Champaign Mayor Accused of Assaulting Local Musician

-By Warner Todd Huston

Champaign Mayor Don Gerard, once a local rock and roll musician, has been accused of assaulting a local musician at a public event.

Champaign musician Jim Bean has filed for an order of protection against Mayor Gerard saying that he physically assaulted him at the Boneyard Creek Community Day sponsored by the Champaign Park District.

Bean told police that he was playing a song on his guitar when Mayor Gerard interrupted him and began to verbally assault him. The argument continued until Mayor Bean called the police on the musician. The police came but no charges were filed at that time.

Gerard claims that the musician had somehow harassed his teenaged daughter, but musician Bean says he doesn’t even know the Mayor’s daughter.

America’s Sheriff, Joe Arpaio, Stands Alone Against Unions And Outsiders in Recall Effort

-By Warner Todd Huston

Only three weeks after re-election in 2012, Sheriff Joe Arpaio was hit with a recall effort. Now, with anti-Arpaio petitions in circulation in Maricopa County, Arizona, “America’s Sheriff” is organizing his forces to oppose a recall backed by the deep pockets of the unions, millions in outside money, and a flood of non-Arizonans arriving to act as the left-winger’s ground troops. (See www.savesheriffjoe.org)

Arpaio’s team is being ramrodded by the Conservative Business League and unlike the opposition’s recall efforts, the CBL is an Arizona-based organization. The duo taking the helm of the save Joe campaign is the CBL’s Ron Ludders and Bob Thomas.

Ludders and Thomas say that the left’s effort to destroy Sheriff Joe Arpaio is no less than an effort to use the Colorado model (the campaign that turned Colorado from red to blue) to give Arizona to the Democrats. It is also a mirror of what the left tried to do to Republican Governor Scott Walker in Wisconsin and, if successful, would be a model for Democrats to regain power in Texas.

Strangely, Arizona’s recall law is incredibly loose. An elected official in The Grand Canyon State can be recalled for any reason at all and, with one exception, at any time. Unlike such laws in most states, the Arizona law does not require a recall for cause such as criminal activity, fraud, or other real reasons. The only rule seems to be that the elected official has to be in office for six months into his first term before a recall can be mounted. This rule did not apply to the six-term Sheriff. To start a recall, petitioners must gather the signatures of 25 percent of the number of votes cast in the last election.

NY Mayor Bloomberg Blames State’s Mess on Gov. Cuomo

-By Warner Todd Huston

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is at it again, this time going off on Governor Cuomo and many other state legislators claiming they aren’t fit for any job in the private sector.

In a recent interview on a New York TV station, Bloomberg slammed the state’s legislators saying, “The average legislator who has to make policy on things that influence our lives, our kids’ lives, our future, would they ever get a job in the private sector making policy on big things? No, not a chance.”

Bloomberg also slammed Gov. Cuomo for his frequent practice of attaching a “message of necessity” to bills sent to the legislature. This practice forces quick votes on bills and prevents lawmakers from having enough time to fully consider them before being expected to cast a vote.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer, Ohio’s largest newspaper, has announced that while it will continue to print editions every day, it will cut home delivery from a seven-day-a-week schedule to but three for subscribers.

No exact date for implementation of the new delivery schedule was announced, but the change will come later this summer.

The delivery schedule change is part of a larger reorganization and coincides with the creation of a new company, the Northeast Ohio Media Group, which will oversee the print edition as well as its growing online content.

Pro-Life Students Compared to White Supremacists at Johns Hopkins University

-By Warner Todd Huston

In March, the pro-life student group Voice For Live was denied the status of official student club by the Student Government Association at Johns Hopkins University. And even as VFL was compared to white supremacists, racists, and deemed undesirable, the SGA approved a new group called Students for Justice in Palestine despite that the latter group has a history of anti-Semitism and campus disruption.

The SGA (SGA) voted on March 12 to deny Voice For Life (VFL )the right to become an officially sanctioned club. The vote against VFL was later upheld by the SGA senate.

To explain its decision, the SGA claimed that the pro-life group’s national website is “offensive” because one of its links takes visitors to the website for Bio-Ethical Reform. The SGA also claimed that because the pro-life group engages in sidewalk counseling at a Baltimore abortion facility, that “clearly violates the JHU Harassment and Code of Conduct policies.”

President of Students for Life of America Kristen Hawkins told Fox News that they were shocked to be denied club status.

“We were pretty shocked when the students showed their bias toward the pro-life students,” Hawkins said.

New York Investigating Anti-Fracking Lobbying by Yoko One, Mark Ruffalo, Robert De Niro

-By Warner Todd Huston

A formal complaint has been filed with a New York lobbying board to investigate whether Yoko Ono, Robert De Niro and nearly 200 other celebrities have violated state laws with their Artists Against Fracking activist group.

Celebrities are well known for dabbling in social activism whether what they have to say makes sense or not and the recent cause célèbre is the anti-fracking movement. Along with Yoko Ono, actors Mark Ruffalo and Robert De Niro, and ex-Beatle Paul McCartney, the movement has drawn the support of some 200 celebrities all donating time and money to stop efforts toward American energy independence.

The group has sponsored rallies and concerts and on it’s website the celebrity group urges visitors to “Tell Governor Cuomo Don’t Frack New York!”

Pushing the issue on a national TV audience, Ono and son Sean even appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to sing a somewhat ridiculous anti-fracking song at the end of January.

Iowa Newspaper Posts, Then Pulls Interactive Map Showing Schools With No Security Officers

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Des Moines Register courted controversy on Wednesday by posting on the Internet an interactive map featuring the locations of Iowa schools that didn’t have security guards. But after a wave of criticism, only hours later the newspaper pulled the map down and reworked it to eliminate the names and addresses of the specific schools. The map was re-launched later that evening.

Initially the map featured flag pins which when clicked would bring up detailed information about the school the flag represented. Each flag had the name of the school, the location of the school and its security situation when known. Red flags were schools with no security guards, green flags were schools with guards, and gray were schools that had not supplied the paper with enough information to delineate whether there were guards or not.

But almost immediately Iowans began to complain, alarmed that the newspaper would set up a map to every school that was totally unprotected. Citizens accused the paper of putting thousands of kids in danger.

Segal was filming for EAGnews, org when the assault occurred.

It was witnessed by a CTU supporter who was so unnerved by the violent treatment that she told police what she saw.

But even though the police gathered up the men that assaulted the reporter, they were later let go even though Segal told police he wanted to file charges.

Alabama Lawmaker’s, Vile, Race-Tinged Email to Constituent

-By Warner Todd Huston

A Jefferson County, Alabama man got a shock after he emailed a local State Representative when instead of a form reply, or a short, meaningless message, the state representative sent him a vile rant filled with taunts and race-tinged epithets.

When Jefferson County resident Eddie Maxwell sent an email to Alabama’s House members urging them to reject any new gun control measures, State Rep. Joe Mitchell (D, Mobile) responded with a virulent personal attack.

Using his official state government email account, Rep. Mitchell sent back a tirade that raised eyebrows across the Yellowhammer State this week. In the email, Mitchell essentially called Mr. Maxwell a slave owner, and followed that with a string of name-calling and threats of violence against him and those like him.

“Your folk never used all this sheit to protect my folk from your slave-holding, murdering, adulterous, baby-raping, incestuous, snaggle-toothed, backward-a**ed, inbreed, imported criminal-minded kin folk,” Rep, Mitchell wrote in the return email. [Spelling as in original]

Mitchell went on to rant that he will use Maxwell’s message to show why his constituents should “stock up on spare parts, munitions and the like,” in an obvious allusion to using the Second Amendment to protect themselves from white people like Maxwell.

First Lawmaker Ever Expelled From Nevada State Assembly Arrested in California Hours Later

-By Warner Todd Huston

Nevada Democrat Steven Brooks has become the first elected official ever expelled from the Nevada State Assembly. But in a strange twist, the lawmaker was arrested in California only hours later charged with assaulting police.

The arrest in California isn’t the first time that Steven Brooks (D, N. Las Vegas) has been arrested.

On January 19, Brooks was arrested by North Las Vegas Police for threatening another lawmaker with violence. It was said he waived around a gun while making the threats.

Not long after he was released on the first charge, Books was arrested again for assaulting a family member.

After this behavior, especially the threats to Nevada Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick, also a Democrat, a committee was convened to consider what to do with Rep. Brooks.

Fmr Pres of Local Chapter of Ohio NAACP: Steubenville Rape Victim Was ‘Drunk and Willing’

-By Warner Todd Huston

In a new interview, the former president of the Steubenville chapter of the NAACP places the blame for the infamous Steubenville, Ohio rape case on the victim claiming that because she was drunk and freely attended the party at which she was assaulted, she was essentially willing to allow the attack.

The controversial comments were made in an interview with Royal Mayo conducted by the International Business Times. Until late 2010, Mayo was the president of the local chapter of the NAACP and is now a member of that chapter’s executive committee. Mayo is also a lifelong resident of the Steubenville area.

The Steubenville rape case made national news when a video of students perpetrating the crime on the drunk and unconscious victim was spread via social media. The video and still photos taken by other kids at the parties became central in a trial that resulted in the conviction of two students, football players Trent Mays and Ma’lik Richmond.

Pro-Palestinian Group Buys Anti-Israel Ads on New York Metro

-By Warner Todd Huston

A pro-Palestinian group has commissioned a new billboard ad now appearing at some New York Metro Stations. The ads attack Israel, U.S. foreign policy, and calls for an end to “Israeli Apartheid.”

American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), an Illinois-based advocacy group, bought space at 25 stations on the New York City Transit Authority’s Metro North line and will run these placards for a month before the campaign moves to another city.

AMP calls itself “a national grassroots organization educating the public about Palestine and its rich cultural and historical heritage.”

The placards quote South African Catholic Bishop and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Desmond Tutu: “I’ve been very deeply distressed in my visit to the Holy Land; it reminded me so much of what happened to us black people in South Africa.”

The ad also says: “Americans give Israel $3 billion per year! End Apartheid NOW! Stop U.S. Aid to Israel.”

The ad features a silhouette photo of a gun-toting soldier and a small, crouching boy surrounded by prison-like concrete walls and towers.

All Other Problems Solved, Chicago Democrats’ New Law Worried About Dogs Behind the Wheel

-By Warner Todd Huston

Having apparently solved all of the other debilitating problems Illinois is facing, Chicago Democrats have now turned their considered attention to making sure dog owners don’t let their puppies get behind the wheel of an automobile.

This important bill (HB1581) amends the Illinois vehicle code to ban drivers from putting their pooch on their laps as they drive. Presumably the Democrats understand it is the humans that are doing the driving, not the dogs–but we may need to launch a second legislative campaign to clarify that.

As Chicago-based Democrat and co-sponsor of the bill, Rep. Bully Burke, says, “Because I travel, I can’t help but observe the number of people with dogs on their laps.” And so, ol’ Billy is out to correct this egregious public safety issue. He’s all about solving the puppy-distracted driver issue.

This is a vital issue, to be sure.

Why? Well, it’s obvious that Illinois Democrats have solved every other nagging issue in the Land of Lincoln, right?

Geo. Zimmerman’s Brother Tweets Photo Comparing GA Baby Shooter to Trayvon Martin

-By Warner Todd Huston

The brother of accused killer George Zimmerman tweeted a photograph comparing accused baby killer De’Marquise Elkins to Trayvon Martin, the young man shot and killed in Florida in 2012.

In a March 24 Tweet, Robert Zimmerman, Jr. posted a photo of De’Marquise Elkins flashing gang signs including a raised middle finger alongside a photo of Trayvon Matin with both middle fingers raised. A caption on the photo reads, “A picture speaks a thousand words. Any Questions?”

Along with the graphic of photos comparing the two young men, Zimmerman writes, “Alleged FBpics of 13mo. old Antonio Santiago’s alleged killer & Trayvon Martin. Uncanny.”

[Note, it seems Mr. Zimmerman has deleted the original Tweet now, screen shot below.]

De’Marquise Elkins has been arrested in Georgia for shooting and killing 13-month-old Antonio Santiago. Elkins is charged with shooting the baby and the baby’s mother in a robbery attempt. Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by Robert Zimmerman’s brother, George, in 2012. George Zimmerman has maintained that Martin was assaulting him and that the shooting was an act of self-defense.

Robert Zimmerman, the accused shooter’s younger brother, has been a staunch and outspoken supporter of his older brother but his latest tweet has drawn sharp criticism on his Twitter account.

Rep. Conyers on ‘Fading Republican Party’: ‘There’s Really Only One Major Party’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Michigan’s Democrat Congressman John Conyers has pronounced the Republican Party dead and gone telling a gathering of the Detroit NAACP that, “the Republican party is fading out of sight almost, so there is really only one major political party of any significance.”

Amusingly, Conyers prefaced that line with “actually without being biased…”

It should be pointed out that the “only major political party of any significance” has been locked out of 30 governors mansions across the country. Only 19 states now have Democrats as governors. Additionally, 24 states are completely controlled by the Republican Party while only 13 are controlled by Democrats (the remainder are spilt between parties on power).

A great example of the Democrats’ stewardship of which Conyers is so proud can be seen back in his home state. Detroit, once Michigan’s biggest and most vital city–and wholly controlled by Democrats–is in such poor financial shape that Governor Rick Snyder, a Republican, has had to evoke a “financial state of emergency” for the crumbling city and has imposed an emergency financial manager upon it to bring the city out of its Democrat-initiated financial disaster.

Race Card: New York Times Distorts NYPD Commander’s Words

-By Warner Todd Huston

In a front page story, The New York Times intimated that race was a deciding factor in how the New York Police Department determines who to stop in it’s proactive stop and frisk policy that has helped drive crime down to its lowest rate in many decades. The Times reports the words of a police commander secretly recorded during an evaluation with a patrolman but “the paper of record” distorts his words and leaves key parts of the recording out of its analysis making the commander seem to be basing his criteria solely on race.

In the March 21 piece, the Times sonorously informs readers that, “a recording suggests that, in at least one precinct, a person’s skin color can be a deciding factor in who is stopped,” and goes on to selectively report what is on that recording leading readers to think the policy is all about race.

This recording was played during a class action lawsuit questioning the NYPD’s stop-and-frisk policy, a tactic that NYC officials in both the police department and city government credit for the huge drop in crime across the Big Apple. The suit also alleges that there are racial quotas in the policy that “encourage officers to stop people unlawfully.”

The Gray Lady, reports that the police commander, Deputy Inspector Christopher McCormack, urged the officer, Patrolman Pedro Serrano, to stop and frisk “the right people at the right time, the right location.”

The criteria for this policy, the Times leads readers to believe, is race-based.

Florida’s Thug Police Chief Eric Liff is Wrong About Everything

Former Cocoa, Florida police Chief Eric Liff is full of crapola when it comes to his wild-eyed beliefs about the National Rifle Association. Liff, however, is right about one thing: he shouldn’t be made to join the NRA against his will. Unfortunately for this grandstander, his point is moot because he isn’t in that position at all.

Liff is upset that the Seminole County Gun & Archery Association has a requirement for members. Before they can use the association’s facilities they must also become a member of the NRA.

San Fran Media Attacks Pamela Geller over New Anti-Jihad Bus Ads

-By Warner Todd Huston

Pamela Geller and the American Freedom Defense Initiative have launched a new series of bus ads, this time in San Francisco, California, and the results in the media are typical of the distortions constantly thrown at Geller and her ad campaigns.

Without allowing for a response, the San Francisco Examiner, for instance, gave space to attack Geller to one Nathan Lean, editor in-chief of Aslan Media, a left-wing, progressive site dedicated to pushing Muslim issues. Aslan is also heavily influenced by Iran and its Mullahs.

In his March 20 piece, Lean claimed that Geller and partner Robert Spencer “desire to ignite a culture war along faith lines” and equated the pair to Osama bin Laden because both considered themselves “freedom fighters.” Lean also said that Geller-Spencer are supporters of the violence in Britain perpetrated by some members of the English Defense League and that the advertisement campaign is “destroying” the cause of liberty.

Lean also promulgated the known false story that a Youtube video sparked mass terror attacks across the Middle East last year. Absurdly, he linked Geller-Spencer to that video with tangential “evidence.”

War on Women: Wash. State Dems Take Advantage of Nursing Mother to Rush Vote on Bill

-By Warner Todd Huston

In another episode of a political “war on women,” Senate Democrats in Washington State took advantage of the absence of a Republican Senator who briefly stepped off the floor to feed her newborn son–leaving the GOP one vote short of control–to push through a vote on a bill that wasn’t even on the schedule.

Of this cynical move, Republican Senator Ann Rivers said, “I think it is shameful for them to make her choose between being on the floor and voting and nursing her child. This caucus, which presents itself as being the caucus of families, would willingly drive a wedge between a mother and her infant? I think that is shameful. Just shameful. And deeply disappointing.”

The Senate in The Evergreen State is closely divided and when Senator Janea Holmquist Newbry (Moses Lake) temporarily stepped away from the floor to feed her newborn son, the balance went from 25-25 to 24 Republicans to 25 Democrats.

As soon as she was off the floor, Democrat Sen. David Frockt, (Seattle), immediately began a push for a vote on a bill that was not up for discussion.

Senator Frockt called for a roll-call vote likely assuming that Democrat Lt. Gov. Brad Owen would put them over the top. Fortunately for Republicans, as the members were called for their vote, Sen. Holmquist Newbry got back to the floor just in time to cast a vote defeating the Democrat effort.

As Calif. Drowns in Debt, Group Advocates For Free Healthcare for Illegals

-By Warner Todd Huston

Even as the state of California is drowning in debt and already suffering under an avalanche of unfunded mandates, a powerful healthcare advocacy group in the Golden State is pushing for free healthcare for all illegal aliens.

The group, The California Endowment, has launched a new program called “Health Happens Here” to push expanded healthcare. To highlight the issue, Cal. Endow. has debuted a new video titled, “Dreaming of Healthcare.”

The video features young, illegal immigrants pleading to be included in Obamacare as well as California’s healthcare system.

“I’m undocumented, but I dream that one day we will all be treated as one people, because we are one people,” the young people tell viewers. “Now, our country has spoken saying that everyone should have affordable healthcare.”

“I dream that one day, ‘everyone’ will include me,” they say.

This new burden would drive the state further into bankruptcy. California is already rated as one of the worst run states in the nation.

Having eight of the ten worst foreclosure areas in the nation, the state has lost over $2 trillion in homeowner equity–a number that exceeds its yearly income–has the 3rd worst unemployment rate in the country, and finds within its borders nearly 1/3 of the nation’s welfare recipients.

Andrzejewski, who ran for Governor on a reform agenda in 2010, called a press conference on Tuesday morning leaving some in the room clearly stunned when he announced that instead of seeking office in 2014, he would dedicate himself to his various government transparency efforts.

“After consulting with supporters, donors, advisors, and my family,” Andrzejewski said in a statement, “I have decided not to run for office in 2014 election cycle.”

Andrzejewski went on to announce that he is going to dedicate himself to his newest project to put the federal checkbook online. The effort called Open The Books (http://www.openthebooks.com/) will give citizens access to government spending across the nation.
