V. Stiviano Also Said Weird, Racist Stuff on Tape

-By Warner Todd Huston

After “outing” her boss to the world as a racist with a secretly recorded phone conversation, old video has emerged of Donald Sterling’s would-be girlfriend, V. Stiviano, also making racially charged statements.

A video from 2011 has re-emerged made by Sterling’s “helper” as an audition for a failed reality show about gold digger women.

On the video, Stiviano is heard claiming that black people are financially irresponsible.

Muslims Demand Des Plaines Library Muzzle Anti-Terror Group Meetings

-By Warner Todd Huston

A group dedicated to warning America about the evils of radical Islamists and the growing wave of terror they commit is coming under fire in Des Plaines. The group meets at the city’s public library but now several Muslim groups are seeking to have government quash the anti-terror group’s right to use the public facility.

The group, ACT! For America, has been meeting at the Des Plaines, Illinois public library for months, but as they gear up to offer a screening of a film that warns of radical Islamism, several Muslim groups have started to illicitly call for the public library to ban the group.

ACT!’s local leader, Sara Schmidt, insists that their group is not about hate but is instead about informing the public of the dangers.

The DesPlaines Journal & Topics reports that Schmidt said, “We just simply try to educate the public about these terrible things going on around the world because of these militants.”

‘Red Leader’ Actor Refuses to Join New Star Wars Film: It’ll Just Bore Me

Denis Lawson, who played Wedge Antilles in the original Star Wars trilogy and was the X-Wing pilot known as “Red Leader,” has declined to return for the new Episode VII that is just gearing up for production.

“They asked me, but it just would have bored me.”

That is pretty funny, actually.

But I can see Lawson’s point since about the only good Star Wars film was the first one from 1978! The next two weren’t horrible, but the later bunch were just dreck. Junk. Empty, pointless, badly acted, junk.

MSNBC’s Schultz Says Gays ‘Really The Ones Persecuted’ in Nazi Holocaust

-By Warner Todd Huston

Sometimes a celebrity will Tweet something, so blatantly a-historical, something so totally outrageous and insensible, that even they realize how bad it is and will try to delete it right away. But someone will always be there to preserve the evidence.

Well, MSNBC’s Ed Schultz just found out that Twitter is forever when he Tweeted that gays were “really” the ones persecuted during Hitler’s holocaust. Seriously. A guy with a German surname just said that. In public.

The MSNBC host Goodwined himself before anyone else even said a word with a Tweet where he informed the world of who was the “real” target of Hitler’s Final Solution.

“Gay people were really the ones being persecuted in Hitler’s Germany,” Schultz blurted out on his EdShow Twitter feed at ten to 5 PM on May 12.

Schultz accompanied his Tweet with an image of a webpage that reported on the thousands of gays that the Nazis reportedly put to death or otherwise interned in their odious death camps.

Stern Looks From Sean Penn, That Ought to Free 250 Kidnapped Nigerian Girls!

-By Warner Todd Huston

They’ve ignored the violent region for a decade, they’ve never spoken out about the Islamist radical terrorists who have killed thousands, but now that over 250 girls have been kidnapped by the Islamist terror group Boko Haram, suddenly a handful of Hollywooders have deigned to notice… and weeks late at that.

In April, the terror group Boko Haram went on a mass kidnapping spree imprisoning hundreds of Nigerian girls who were trying to attend school. The Islamists are against girls going to school, naturally. That and they want to money from selling the girls into sexual slavery. Hundreds of grief stricken Nigerian parents have been trying to get the world to notice for weeks.

President Obama has been ignoring the mass kidnapping for almost a month already. But now he is finally starting to pay attention. On May 7 First Lady Michelle Obama Tweeted out a photo of herself holding a piece of paper that sways “#Bring Back Out Girls.”

For his part, the President has begun to offer some help, though no one is quite sure what that amounts to yet.

That is all well and good, but what is galling is the idiots in Hollywood. Suddenly being all worried about the Nigerian girls is all the rage among the hipsters. To express their newfound concern a handful of Hollyidiots Tweeted photos of themselves with stern faces holding signs that say “real men don’t buy girls.”

MSNBC’s Racist Cinco de Mayo: White Guy Pretends to Get Drunk on Tequila While Wearing Sombrero

-By Warner Todd Huston

Now, imagine if Fox News had “celebrated” Cinco de Mayo by having a white guy wearing a dime store, straw sombrero and wandering across the screen pretending he’s drunk on tequila. The media wagging tongues would have made it into the worst example of racism since… well, last week’s Sterling incident.

MSNBC’s Racist Cinco de Mayo Celebration

But that it happened on MSNBC, no one will likely throw the race card at the extremist, left-wing cable network.

Still, that is what happened on MSNBC when network’s morning show, Way too Early, made the switch to its low-rated Morning Joe.

As Way too Early was coming to a close on May 5, a show producer named Louis Burgdorf–obviously a white guy–paraded across the screen in front of the host’s station wearing a cheap Mexican sombrero and pretending to be drinking tequila.

The banner across the bottom of the screen proclaimed “Mexican Heritage Celebration.”

So, a sombrero-wearing white guy pretending at being drunk was the way MSNBC decided to “celebrate” Cinco de Mayo? And no one wants to scream “rraaaaaacism” at that?

Despite’s League Claims of Clippers Sale, Sterling May Fight to Bitter End

-By Warner Todd Huston

The NBA may think it has set in motion the eventual sale of the L.A. Clippers thanks to racist comments made by team owner Donald Sterling, but Sterling has a long history of launching tough lawsuits and is rumored to have told a friend that he isn’t going to just roll over in this deal.

After a recording of Sterling’s racist private comments made to a girlfriend became public, NBA commissioner Adam Silver banned the Clippers owner for life and now the NBA owners are planning to take a vote about what they should do about the whole situation.

Most assume the owners will vote to try and force Sterling to sell his team and vacate the league. There are many reports that members of the owners group are saying that they think they already have the votes to sanction Sterling.

But, on the other hand, this is the United States of America and citizens have a certain expectation that something they have purchased with their own hard earned money is their property and they have certain rights to it.

Media Giddy Over Chelsea Clinton Extending Dynasty With Baby Announcement

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Thursday, April 17, Chelsea Clinton said that she and husband of four years, investment banker Marc Mezvinsky, have a blessed event to announce as the couple is now expecting their first child. But the Old Media may be more excited than Chelsea that the Clinton dynasty is growing.

One of the earliest to bubble over with excitement seemed to be a screaming, all caps Tweet pushed out by CNN’s Candy Crowley.

Oddly, Crowley coupled Chelsea’s announcement with Obama’s wonderful Obamacare news, saying, “AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME-TWO ANNOUNCEMENTS: POTUS SAYS 8 MILLION ENROLLED IN ACA, AND CHELSEA CLINTON SAYS SHE’S PREGNANT.”

Even some of Crowley’s fans wondered why she was yelling at them with the all caps post that breaks netiquette standards.

‘Star Trek Continues’ Righting a Start Trek Original Sin

-By Warner Todd Huston

Recently the second episode of a fan-made re-boot (or more properly a continuation) of the original Kirk/Spock Star Trek appeared online and, as with this troupe’s first episode, this one was quite a success. But an interesting aspect of the episode is that it made to correct a Star Trek original sin, of sorts.

This is the second episode from the new web series, “Star Trek Continues,” starring Vic Mignogna as Captain Kirk, Todd Haberkorn as Spock, Larry Nemeck as McCoy, and Chris Doohan as Scotty (son of the original Star Trek actor James Doohan).

(See my review of the first episode from last year here.)

This episode, titled “Lolani,” featured a few well-known actors chipping in with their talent to help the episode along. Lou Ferrigno (“The Incredible Hulk”) starred as the episode’s menacing baddie, an Orion slave trader named Zaminhon, and Erin Gray (“Buck Rogers”) had several guest shots as a Starfleet Admiral.

Interestingly, as an Orion slaver, Ferrigno had to go green once again, invoking his days as the Hulk in the 1970s/80s TV show in which he played the titular big green guy in the ripped purple pants.

For those unaware of what a Star Trek Orion alien is, well, they have brilliantly green skin. So, it was notable that Ferrigno donned the green body makeup once again.

Pick of Stephen Colbert Shows CBS Hates You, America

-By Warner Todd Huston

Stephen Colbert has been chosen to replace David Letterman as the next host of the Late Show. The pick proves that CBS has declared war on middle America by purposefully choosing a host who has made a living ripping everything America is to pieces while pretending to be its advocate.

Mr. Colbert, who ever he is, has made a living pretending he is someone else. For years he usually plays to a much smaller audience on the Comedy network with the false front of a “conservative” talk show host. His persona is a spoof, of course, and is meant to make you hate conservatives, not root for them.

His show is meant to pick apart religion, slam the Constitution, ridicule American history, and attack his guests in an attempt to “expose” them for some such thing.

Stephen Colbert means to ridicule you, America.

Hollywood Poseur ‘Jay Z’ and His White-Men-are-Devils Medallion

-By Warner Todd Huston

Hollywood poseur “Jay Z”–whose real name is Shawn Corey Carter–has taken to wearing a gaudy, coaster-sized medallion from a group that says white people are evil and blacks are a superior race. But the truth is, this mope is wearing the regalia without walking the walk by actually joining the black-centric hate group.

“Jay Z” and his buddies have been seen wearing these medallions lately. They come from a hate group called the Five Percent Nation. The medallion–an eight-point star with the number 7 in the middle–means that blacks are a superior race. It’s sort of a darker version of the Aryan Nation racists.

Maria Bartiromo Returns to CNBC… in an Ad for Fox Business Network

In my writing about media, I have been fascinated in the rise of Fox Business Network in the financial reporting game. Recently I noted that FBN snagged star business reporter Maria Bartiromo from CNBC, but amusingly she just went back on CNBC… in an ad for Fox Business!

Politico’s Crap About a ‘Career Path’ for Dissenting Journalists

-By Warner Todd Huston

Politico just published one of those articles that always drives me crazy where the media takes one or two examples of something and then tries to turn that into some sort of massive wave where in truth it is no such thing. This time Politico is saying that because three people left mainstream journalism to become media critics, that must mean there is a “career path” for disaffected journalists to fame and success.

The Politico story titled, “Media career path: Cry ‘media bias’,” is written by Dylan Byers and is loosely formed around the departure from CBS of excellent investigate journalist Sharyl Attkisson. Then the article segues to Bernard Goldberg and John Stossel both of who left big three network jobs to become Fox News analysts who often criticize the media.

The premise of the story is presented in the third paragraph:

Where I am Quoted in a Book on Islam

-By Warner Todd Huston

OK, here is something odd. I just found out I was quoted in the book “Islam without Extremes: a Muslim case for liberty” by Mustafa Akyol published a few years ago. (Norton Press, 2011)

The book is apparently an attempt to reconcile Islam with western ideals of liberty and freedom.

I found the quote through a review of the book by Gamal Nkrumah of Al-Ahram Weekly, a newspaper from Cairo, Egypt. Nkrumah notes that Akyol quoted me saying this: “We need to understand just how brutal Islam is in how it treats its most vulnerable members: girls and women.” (In Akyol’s book on page 31)

This quote of mine is from an article in which I was discussing the criminal act of female circumcision practiced by Muslims. (Muslim mutilation of little girl in Atlanta, Georgia)

Akyol said I was wrong to put female circumcision on Islam proper because, he says, it is a cultural idea not one prescribed by the Koran. Me, I don’t see a difference because practitioners say they are doing it in the name of Islam and until the practice is stopped (by Muslims) it is a integral part of their religious practices.

Anyway, I found it interesting that I was quoted in this book and that I was wholly unaware of it until now.

I know that I have had my work printed in two college textbooks, but it makes me wonder how many other books I appear in out there?

Not bragging. More like it amuses me.

The Death of the TV Butler–Literally

-By Warner Todd Huston

TV, movies, and literature used to be filled with Butlers, that manservant to the well to do. But the character device has fallen out of favor lately, so much so that if an actor was famous for playing a butler, he’s probably dead!

Of course, one of the most famous butlers in entertainment history is Reginald Jeeves of the novels penned by P. G. Wodehouse. Jeeves was brought to life on British TV in the early 1990s by comedic actor Stephen Fry. Thankfully, Fry still with us, of course, but the character is an old one having first made the literary scene in 1915.

The most recent TV butler is Mr. Carson on the well-loved British series “Downton Abbey.” Mr. Carson is played by actor Jim Carter who is also still very much alive as this show is still in production. We were also recently treated to actor Forest Whitaker in the schmaltzy movie “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” a 2013 film also starring Oprah Winfrey. Certainly Whitaker is still alive and working in Hollywood. But a whole host of other film and TV butlers have passed on to that great mansion in the sky and the role of the butler is not used much these days to bring us new ones to replace them.

Batman’s Alfred

Batman has quite a famous butler in the personae of one Mr. Alfred Pennyworth. With apologies to Mr. Wodehouse, I’d suggest that Alfred is the most famous butler in all of western entertainment as we’ve seen more of Mr. Pennyworth than any other butler in the last 70 years.

Alfred first appeared in the comic books in 1943, and most recently famed actor Michael Caine took the role for the Christopher Nolan “Dark Knight” series of Batman movies. Caine is very much with us, granted. We also hear that Jeremy Irons will be taking the role of Alfred in next year’s Superman sequel, “Batman vs. Superman”–he’s also alive and kicking, naturally.

The two mentioned above aside, Alfred has also been personified on TV and in film by several other actors all of whom are dead. In the late 1960s Alan Napier took the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman’s trusted servant. Napier passed in 1988. Later, when the Batman movies started making headway in the series begun by director Tim Burton, Michael Gough played the famous manservant. Gough died in 2011. Ian Abercrombie also played Alfred for the one-season-long series “Birds of Prey.” He died in 2012. And at least two others who played Alfred in the 1940s era movie serials are also dead.

Svengoolie Introduces New Coffin!

-By Warner Todd Huston

For those of you in Chicago, you’ll remember the many decades that the Son of Svengoolie (now just called Svengoolie) hosted his creature feature sci-fi and horror movies on local TV. The ghoul always hosted his show from his colorful coffin but this year he’s finally upgraded to a new casket.

The original was fashioned in the 1970s but was never made with an eye towards decades of use and few expected Svengoolie to be still hosting his movies well into and after the year 2000. At some point, the old coffin was just too beat up to continue with.

Well, this year the MeToo Cable TV monster movie host debuted a new coffin.

Here is the debut episode segments…

[UPDATE] Coke Balkanizes USA With Super Bowl Ad

-By Warner Todd Huston

With UPDATE at bottom

The left was ecstatic over Coca-Cola’s decision to air a commercial during the Super Bowl that featured as its sound track the song America The Beautiful. Oh, they weren’t ecstatic because of the song. They were ecstatic that Coke decided to have the song sung in a myriad of foreign languages. They weren’t excited over an American song they were happy that Coke decided to snub English and American traditions, of course.

Naturally, the retort against those that were upset that Coke produced the song in a string of foreign tongues is that they are “racists” and “haters” who hate the fact that there are people other than White, English-speakers in the US.

Just as naturally, this is simply not why people were upset at Coke.

Coke posted a press release claiming that its commercial was “a salute to America” and that “the ad features real people enjoying each other and a Coke.”

Further explaining the commercial in the press release, Katie Bayne, President, North America Brands, Coca-Cola North America, said, “For 127 years, Coca-Cola has been proud to be a part of bringing friends and families together while memories are made. With ‘It’s Beautiful,’ we are simply showing that America is beautiful, and Coke is for everyone.”

Here is How Many Times Did Jay Leno Slam Clinton, Bush or Obama

-By Warner Todd Huston

With Jay Leno ending his 22-year stint as host of NBC’s Tonight Show this week, The Center for Media and Public Affairs took the time to add up how many times he made fun of Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama and found that Clinton came in as the most ribbed Prez.

Bill Clinton rang in with 4,607 Tonight Show jokes making him the most joked about President. This might only make sense as Clinton was always there to make fun of since the first day Leno took over the show. While both Bush and Obama were around less time to serve as targets.

Maybe unsurprisingly, the next most slammed president was George W. Bush at 3,239 jokes. Next came Al Gore at 1,026 pokes with Obama coming in at 1,011. Hillary Clinton brought up fifth place with 939 jokes.

‘The View’s’ Goldberg Upset Over Conservative Fill-In Hosts

-By Warner Todd Huston

This week ABC’s morning gabfest The View has been featuring conservative women as fill-in hosts but liberal Whoopi Goldberg was not happy at all about the inclusion of the conservatives dismissing it as a mere sweeps week stunt.

On Monday, Dana Loesch sat on the panel and on Tuesday HotAir’s Mary Katharine Ham co-hosted but before the week began Goldberg was disgusted enough to Tweet that the whole thing was a stunt. She also warned that no one should get mad at her because she doesn’t schedule guests.

On February 2, lefty actress Elizabeth Perkins Tweeted to Goldberg that she was unhappy with the coming inclusion of conservative women.

“I’m very surprised by The View booking Dana Loesch,” Perkins Tweeted. “There is no compromise with her, no solution other than more guns. Sad.”

Goldberg Tweeted a reply agreeing with Perkins and then dismissed the idea of having conservative women on the show as just a ratings stunt.

“Yeah.. Me too,” Goldberg Tweeted. “but it’s sweeps apparently.. & they are going for ratings I’m sure.”

It should be noted that Goldberg Tweeted her disgust with having voices other than liberal ones on her show before the week began. As the week began, though, Goldberg seemed to get a bit tired of all the liberal complaints about the decision to have the two conservative women on the show.

By Tuesday, Goldberg Tweeted, “Hey you don’t like a guest on @theviewtv tell them NOT me cos I don’t book the show. HOWEVER it is called the View & u don’t have 2agree.”

‘Shark Tank’ Repeats Get More Ratings Than All of CNN’s Programming

-By Warner Todd Huston

Despite the much ballyhooed tinkering by chief Jeff Zucker to halt CNN’s ratings decline, the cable news network racked up its third-lowest month on record for January. Things were so bad that even repeats of the reality show Shark Tank airing on CNBC beat CNN in the ratings.

This January, on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, the nation’s oldest financial cable news network, began airing repeats of the ABC reality show Shark Tank, where applicants vie for funding from a panel of venture capitalists. CNBC’s reruns topped every show on CNN as well as every show but The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC.

The reruns of the reality/game show came in at number 6 in the ratings race behind four Fox News shows, The O’Reilly Factor, The Five, The Kelly File and Special Report With Bret Baier, with Maddow’s show on MSNBC coming it at fifth place. But Shark Tank swamped every single CNN show on the schedule.
