Texas Townhall Rings With Calls for Obama’s Impeachment

-By Warner Todd Huston

Congressman Michael Burgess got a bit more than he bargained for when he went back home to Texas and held a townhall for constituents as the event rang out with calls for Burgess to file impeachment charges against Obama.

Burgess is the Congressman for the 26th Congressional District in Texas, a district that encompasses Fort Worth and Dallas in north central Texas quite near the Oklahoma border.

GOP’s Priebus, Spicer Congratulate MSNBC Host for Gay Wedding

-By Warner Todd Huston

MSNBC host Thomas Roberts, an openly gay man, appeared on the network to express his confusion on how GOP National Chairman Reince Priebus and RNC Communications Director Sean Spicer could congratulate him for his recent gay wedding yet preside over a party that stands against same sex marriage.

Appearing on MSNBC’s Morning Joe on August 16, Roberts mentioned that the two GOP chiefs congratulated him on his impending marriage.

“Reince Priebus, when I got engaged, congratulated me at the White House Correspondents’ weekend,” Roberts said. “Last year, Sean Spicer congratulated me on getting married to my husband. Yet they incorporate into the platform of the RNC their stance against marriage equality.”

Roberts found these well wishes “odd.”

Facebook Removes GOP Texas Attorney General’s New Campaign Ad

-By Warner Todd Huston

Again showing how easy it is to have conservatives blocked or removed from Facebook, the new video campaign ad for Dan Branch, the Republican candidate for Texas Attorney General, was removed from the social media giant for “community standards” violations.

The ad, a fairly standard campaign ad, was removed and the candidate’s page blocked likely because Branch’s opponents flagged the Facebook posting.

The theme of the ad is “Come And Take It!,” and is filled with images of flags, pledges, hand holding, people in prayer, and talk of limited government, traditional marriage, and pro-life issues. It’s all pretty standard fare, especially for a Texas Republican.

Frmr Congressman Walsh: Illinois GOP Delegation Wants me to Stay Out of Washington

-By Warner Todd Huston

Joe Walsh was, to say the least, a firebrand as the Congressman for the Illinois 8th District during his one term in Congress. He lost his re-election bid in the 2012 cycle, but while he was out there in D.C. he was always in the news for one thing or another that he said or did. Apparently he was such a firebrand that all our current GOP Congressmen have told Joe not to run for Congress again!

Walsh appeared at an event in Wauconda, Illinois on Sunday, July 28, and told the crowd that he’s poked around with his former colleagues as to whether or not they’d support him for another run for Congress if he should decide to try.

Joe said that his former pals are less than enthused, if you will.

Some say that the reason his form colleagues don’t want him around is so that they can “fold like a cheap tent” in the face of Democrat demands and his presence in D.C. makes that harder to do.

What do you think?

Now-a-days Joe Walsh is a talk show host (what else could he be! Ha, ha) and has a great show evening on WIND AM 560 in Chicago.

Republican Elites DID Seek to Keep Federal Oversight on State Elections

-By Warner Todd Huston

Last week PJ Media posted a short story that reported that certain operatives in the Republican Party establishment wanted to buck the Supreme Court of the United States of America and look to ways to re-instate federal oversight over elections and redistricting in southern states. The Republican National Committee immediately denied the report and said they absolutely were not looking to re-impose federal oversight on the states.

In June the Supreme Court (SCOTUS) struck down part of the voting rights law and returned oversight of redistricting and elections back to the several southern states. Since 1965 these states had to plead to the federal government to get approval for such things all due to civil rights violations during the days of Jim Crow.

This decision was hailed by conservatives as a move in the right direction but Obama’s racebaiting Attorney General, Eric Holder, has vowed to return the states back to federal oversight quite despite what the SCOTUS decided.

Now, in the original PJ Media report (RNC Operatives Join Holder’s Campaign Against Texas, Several Other States), it was reported that “the RNC have been spending RNC donations plotting to do exactly what Eric Holder is seeking to do–return Texas and other states to federal oversight.”

Joint Statement by Illinois House GOP Caucus on President Obama’s Jobs Speech in Galesburg

Illinois House Republicans Peter Roskam (IL-6), Rodney Davis (IL-13), Randy Hultgren (IL-14), John Shimkus (IL-15), Adam Kinzinger (IL-16), and Aaron Schock (IL-18) issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s speech in Galesburg, IL:

“Today, President Obama made his 19th pivot back to what has always been most important to Americans, jobs and the economy. With its 9.2% unemployment rate, full-blown budget crisis and sky-high taxes, our shared home state of Illinois is an example of government making all the wrong economic choices. However, no amount of presidential pivots and speechmaking will change the fact that too many Illinoisans are out of work. It doesn’t have to be this way.

“House Republicans have never strayed from our focus on creating jobs and strengthening our economy. We are developing a tax reform package for individuals and businesses that would increase American competitiveness in the global economy. We have passed a jobs and skills training package, approved the Keystone XL Pipeline, acted to protect families and individuals from a costly healthcare law and put forth a plan to permanently fix our student loan crisis. These proposals would immediately and demonstrably boost the economy, and set the foundation for long-term growth. We agree with the president, too many Americans are struggling in today’s economy, and we stand ready to work toward real, bipartisan solutions, not listen to another stump speech.”

Senator Corker: 11 Million ‘Citizens’ Are ‘in the Shadows’ Today

-By Warner Todd Huston

During further debate of the Senate’s immigration bill on the floor of the Senate in the late afternoon of June 25, Tennessee’s Republican Senator, Bob Corker, claimed that 11 million “citizens” are “in the shadows today” and proclaimed himself “thrilled” to vote for the amnesty bill under discussion.

The Senator is a big supporter of the current amnesty bill and spoke in its favor saying, “We have the opportunity to immediately affect, in a positive way, 11 million citizens who are in the shadows today–in many ways already a part of our society–and can come out and be even more productive for the United States of America. I am thrilled to have that opportunity…”

According to this statement, in Corker’s estimation the 11 million illegal immigrants being talked about in the current debate in the Senate are already “citizens.”

Senator Corker has also been critical of conservative news coverage of the immigration debate saying that reports have been misleading.

National Review Hammers the ‘Gang of Eight’ Immigration Team

-By Warner Todd Huston

In a new editorial, the folks at National Review came out strongly against the immigration plan being sponsored by the so-called “gang of eight” Senators, a group that includes Florida Senator Marco Rubio, calling the bill “Rubio’s Folly.”

NR urges Senator Rubio to vote against the bill he has helped craft, disparaging the proposed legislation as, “an amnesty-first, enforcement-maybe program drawn up mainly to reflect the priorities of 11 million citizens of other countries rather than the concerns of more than 300 million citizens of the United States.”

NR goes on to point out that many of the bill’s “security triggers” are little else but “paper tigers” that are undermined before they even fairly begin. For instance, the requirement that prospective new citizens must have a “clean criminal record” is undermined by the fact that they can actually have two misdemeanors and up to two convictions for drunk driving yet still qualify.

Dissing Erika Harold: Racist Rant Gets GOP Chairman in Hot Water

-By Warner Todd Huston

Former Miss America, Erika Harold recently announced that she is running to take the 13th Congressional District seat now held by Rodney Davis of Springfield.

So, for the upcoming 2014 mid term elections, Davis has a competitor for the 13th District seat. But one Davis supporter is not happy at all about the competition.

In his zeal to come to the support of Rodney Davis, County Chairman Jim Allen of the Montgomery County GOP made an ass of himself with a racist, email rant slamming Harold as “the love child of the D.N.C.”

The email rant was sent on June 18 and reported by Dough Ibendhal of RepublicanNewsWatch.com.

Susan Rice Gets Pass While Media Discounted Condi Rice

-By Warner Todd Huston

Noah Rothman recently did an excellent job detailing what the progressive media said about Condoleeza Rice when George W. Bush appointed her as his Secretary of State in 2005. Rothman noted how the media dismissed Condi Rice as merely a “friend” of Bush and otherwise made it seem as if her appointment was just a payoff for loyalty instead of the appointment of a qualified person. In contrast, Obama’s appointment of Susan Rice as his national security advisor is not being so quickly dismissed by that same media establishment.

Rothman quoted a series of members of the media from 2005 dismissing Condi rather spectacularly as having received her nomination simply because of the “loyalty” factor.

Inter Press Service Washington Bureau Chief Jim Lobe, for instance, said that Condi was appointed “as much for her fierce personal loyalty to Bush as for her own foreign-policy views.”

Christian Science Monitor diplomacy correspondent Howard LaFranchi complained that Condi’s appointment meant that “no fresh new voices will be challenging White House thinking or offering debating points in policy discussions.”

The New York Times ravaged the appointment as an example of “friends of George” being foisted on Washington.

Turning Texas Blue: Obama Tours Austin

-By Warner Todd Huston

President Obama recently conducted a “tech tour” of Austin, Texas looking to get more federal money sent to support Austin’s tech boom.

The visit is part of a new campaign Obama is conducting across the country to cajole Congress into adopting some of the economic ideas he offered in his last State of the Union speech and his budget proposal.

In a visit to Applied Materials Inc., Obama said, “We’re poised for a time of progress, if we’re willing to seize it.”

The “it” he wants seized is greater federal spending. Obama has a long history on supporting “green” and tech spending on failed companies like Solyndra, Fisker Motors, and a score of other such bankrupted companies.

The President also warned that if Congress allowed “sequestration” to cut off funds to tech companies and research “We could end up losing our edge” to companies in Asia.

NYTimes Still Excusing IRS Audits of Conservative Groups

-By Warner Todd Huston

On May 10, a spokeswoman for the Internal Revenue Service admitted that over the last year–during the presidential election, at that–the agency had conducted “overzealous audits” of the tax-exempt status of dozens of conservative activists and Tea Party groups. Last year The New York Times dismissed claims that the IRS was abusing its powers but even with these new admissions by the IRS the Times is underplaying the facts.

Last year several conservative groups began to notice that they were getting audited an awful lot and some banded together with Jay Selkulow’s American Center for Law and Justice to call for an investigation into the matter. Sekulow accused the IRS of launching a campaign intended to stifle free speech. At the time, Landmark Legal Foundation also demanded that the IRS conduct an investigation into agency misconduct.

Not long thereafter the Times ridiculed complaints made by conservative groups saying that the IRS was just doing its job.

AP Claims Official House Benghazi Hearings Just ‘GOP Hearing’

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Associated Press on Wednesday mischaracterized the Benghazi hearings as merely a Republican event even though it is an official House investigation.

In the headline of its report, the Associated Press downplayed the official hearings of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee–that has both Democrats and Republicans on it–into the failures surrounding the 2012 attacks on our embassy personnel in Benghazi, Libya. The AP characterized the official hearings as “GOP hearings” making the proceedings seem like a mere political witch-hunt.

The piece written by Donna Cassata was headlined, “GOP Benghazi hearing stokes political controversy.”

The hearing on Benghazi is not a “GOP hearing,” but is instead an official hearing of the House with representatives of both parties sitting at the head of the proceedings.

The bias in the piece doesn’t begin and end in the headline, either. Cassata does not report the hearings straight but goes on to put her opinion into the description of the day’s events.

Her fourth paragraph is a perfect example of that bias (my bold).

Farewell Chip Gerdes

-By Warner Todd Huston

If you are a Midwesterner–especially in Illinois and Missouri–and you are in any way connected with political campaigning, you’ve heard about or run across Chip Gerdes. A big bear of a guy, Gerdes was one of the two states’ most active background operatives.

Gerdes wasn’t an “out there” guy, not the sort of guy that people outside of the in-the-know world of political operatives would have met or heard of. Chip worked behind the scenes and his hand was evident in so many issue and candidate info campaigns in Illinois it was hard to keep track of them all. As Breitbart.com’s Joel Pollak said, “He was an Alinskyite–for the good guys.”

Chip was always very full of life, verve, and swagger. Ever ready to ride to the sound of the guns whenever conservatives in Illinois and Missouri needed him. And boy did he love what he did.

Whenever one encountered Gerdes he was gregarious with a slap to the back, a hearty handshake, a word about his latest campaign effort, and an offer to go get a drink at the earliest convenience.

Leftist Lies Against Koch Brothers in Lee Fang’s New Book

-By Warner Todd Huston

Lee Fang has cobbled together a new book ostensibly meant as a guide to things that conservative activists are doing for their cause and in his chapter on the Koch brothers he regurgitates dozens of un-sourced lies that have little basis in fact even as he presents them as fact.

Firstly we must dispense with any pretense that Lee Fang is anything but a screedist, a young fellow whose only goal is to churn emotional hatred against conservatives. He isn’t interested in truth or facts and his style is to just spin loose associations into grand conspiracies in order to push his narrative.

Fang is so bad that he has had to be scolded by his own publishers for his lies. He “writes” for the left-wing magazine The Nation and why they continue to employ him after his years of outright lies is anyone’s guess.

Take Fang’s April 22 piece on how climate “reform” was “poisoned from the inside.” His piece was so filled with innuendo, lies, and distortions that The Nation had to post a three-paragraph disclaimer telling readers that everything they wee about to read was essentially untrue. This warning to the reader was half as long as Fang’s piece!

Anyway, in a Washington Free Beacon article amusing titled “Half Baked,” Lachlan Markay does a great job deconstructing Fang’s latest lies about the Kochs

Hey Dhimmi Duckworth, Rep. Joe Walsh Was Right About Boston Bombers

-By Warner Todd Huston

TODAY: A bombing during the Boston Marathon kills three and injures over a hundred, some requiring multiple amputations. Muslims that had become naturalized American citizens perpetrated these crimes.

During the 2012 election cycle, then Representative Joe Walsh was attacked by his opponent, Tammy Duckworth–now our elected Congressman–and her campaign assistants in what we call “the press” because at a campaign stop he said there are homegrown radical Islamists in America that are just as dangerous as those overseas.

In response to criticism by Dhimmi Duckworth, Walsh said the following: “While the overwhelming majority of Muslim Americans are as peace loving as everyone else, there are radical Islamists right here in the United States trying to kill Americans and destroy this country.”

This man was turned out of office despite that he was 100% right. Now we have a terror apologist in that seat in Washington DC. This is only in keeping with a President that feels the same way as Dhimmi Duckworth.

Obama and Dhimmi Duckworth have failed to keep America safe. Boston’s blood is on their hands.

Joe Walsh now has his own radio show on WIND-AM Chicago.

Arkansas’ Rep. Tom Cotton Raises $525K in First Quarter

-By Warner Todd Huston

Freshman Congressman Tom Cotton (R, AR) has announced that he’s already raised $525,000 in the first quarter of the year, quite a haul for this young Congressman from Dardanelle, Arkansas.

“The campaign has over $560,000 cash on hand and no debt,” Cotton’s campaign said in a statement. “As I keep my campaign promises to promote economic opportunity for all, fight wasteful spending, and defend America against all enemies, I’m grateful for the continued generosity and confidence of my supporters,” Rep. Cotton said.

Tom Cotton was elected to Arkansas’ 4th District after five-term Rep. Mike Ross retired. He won office in 2012 and is now serving his first term.

Obama’s Failed Attempt to Create a Nat’l Gun Registry

-By Warner Todd Huston

Obama and his left-wing, anti-Constitution Democrat allies tried desperately to create universal background checks as one step closer to a national gun registry. This is an important point and Senator Mike Lee (R, UT) did an excellent job pointing that out in his latest op ed explaining why he voted against the Toomey/Manchin bill.

“The Toomey-Manchin amendment admirably attempted to carve out certain protections for gun owners, but today’s carve-outs are tomorrow’s loopholes. The current ‘gun show loophole’ was itself once considered a legitimate carve-out that protected certain private sales.”

And this:

“The amendment also took an incremental step toward universal background checks, which, as a Justice Department memo written earlier this year suggested, are effective only when coupled with a national registration system. Admittedly, the Toomey-Manchin plan prohibited a national registry. Yet it required a massive expansion of gun ownership data collected by federally licensed dealers to which the government has access.”

“After all, you cannot track all gun sales without tracking all gun owners. But the government has no business monitoring constitutionally protected activity, like gun ownership, any more than it has any business tracking what books Americans read or how often they attend church.”

These are EXTREMELY important points to remember when talking to others about this background check idea. It is a nother step toward an illicit national gun registry. And then after that comes confiscation.

Bomb Threat at Office of Ariz. Sheriff Joe Arpaio

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Friday morning, April 12, a package suspected of containing an explosive device was addressed to the offices of the Maricopa County, Arizona, Sheriffs offices of Joe Arpaio, known as “America’s toughest sheriff.”

The package was intercepted by postal authorities in Flagstaff and was submitted to an X-ray scan that showed what looked like an explosive device hidden inside.

Postal authorities said that the package was flagged by a “very astute” carrier who thought the thing was suspicious.

The bomb squad was quickly called and the suspicious package was destroyed.

An Interview With Chad Koppie, Running for U.S. Senate From Illinois

-By Warner Todd Huston

Chad Koppie has decided to throw his hat in the ring for the 2014 race for Senate and recently I took a few minutes to get an idea of what issues interest him. Koppie is both fiscally as well as socially conservative and has several considered ideas about how things need to be.

Koppie is a conservative Republican from Kane County and currently sits on the Kane County Regional Board of Schools. He has also been a township trustee, a school board member, and a hospital board member in his county. He’s run for other offices, most recently for Senate in 2008.

In 2008, Koppie ran under the Constitution Party banner for Senate. You can see his presentation at WTTW T’s “free time” segment from 2008.

His bio states: “Chad Koppie is strongly pro-life, pro-gun rights, and anti-illegal alien. He wants to repeal Obamacare. He wants to help eliminate the Dept. of Education, audit the Federal Reserve, and cut all other federal spending by 3%, per year, for 10 years. He supports a federal flat tax. He supports a balanced budget amendment, for the Constitution.”

I began our discussion asking him about the Illinois establishment GOP. I wondered how he was going to get their support. Turns out, he didn’t intend to worry much about the establishment and plans on reaching out to the grassroots to launch his campaign.

The 16 RINOs That Voted for Anti-Gun Bill That DOESN’T EXIST!

-By Warner Todd Huston

There are sixteen Republican senators that need to be eliminated. These are the sixteen reputed Republicans that voted for the Democrat’s gun ban bill. It is bad enough these anti-Constitution Republicans joined the extreme left in this endeavor, of course, but even worse they all voted for a bill that doesn’t even exist.

The GOP’s sold-out sixteen voted to shelve a filibuster and allow the anti-Second Amendment bill to go through based on their understanding of the Toomey/Manchin compromise, but the problem here is that there isn’t any bill to debate. Why? Because the neither Toomey nor Manchin have written one yet.

Before we go on, here are the sixteen Republicans that stand against the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution (and the office phone numbers).

Lindsey Graham (SC) (202) 224-5972

Roll Call: Obama Has ‘Given Up’ On Those Darn Republicans?

-By Warner Todd Huston

In an interesting break from reality, Roll Call posits that Obama has now “given up” on Republicans as partners for helping him get some “governing done” in Washington DC. Of course, the Capitol Hill newspaper fails to show when it was that Obama ever consider the GOP to be his governing partner in the first place.

For Roll Call, writer Steven T. Dennis claims that, “Obama already seems resigned to the reality” that he won’t be able to successfully initiate his massive re-tooling of America to reflect his left-wing agenda because the GOP isn’t interested in “bipartisan action.”

Dennis reports Obama’s recent lamentation that he can’t get anything done without California’s Democrat Representative Nancy Pelosi back in the House Speaker’s chair and notes his complaining that Boehner and the Republicans won’t just bend to his will so he can do what he wants to do.

But, Dennis reports from Obama’s side of the argument, refusing to point out that President Obama has never considered the Republicans and the millions of voters they represent as important partners in running Washington DC in the first place.

America’s Sheriff, Joe Arpaio, Stands Alone Against Unions And Outsiders in Recall Effort

-By Warner Todd Huston

Only three weeks after re-election in 2012, Sheriff Joe Arpaio was hit with a recall effort. Now, with anti-Arpaio petitions in circulation in Maricopa County, Arizona, “America’s Sheriff” is organizing his forces to oppose a recall backed by the deep pockets of the unions, millions in outside money, and a flood of non-Arizonans arriving to act as the left-winger’s ground troops. (See www.savesheriffjoe.org)

Arpaio’s team is being ramrodded by the Conservative Business League and unlike the opposition’s recall efforts, the CBL is an Arizona-based organization. The duo taking the helm of the save Joe campaign is the CBL’s Ron Ludders and Bob Thomas.

Ludders and Thomas say that the left’s effort to destroy Sheriff Joe Arpaio is no less than an effort to use the Colorado model (the campaign that turned Colorado from red to blue) to give Arizona to the Democrats. It is also a mirror of what the left tried to do to Republican Governor Scott Walker in Wisconsin and, if successful, would be a model for Democrats to regain power in Texas.

Strangely, Arizona’s recall law is incredibly loose. An elected official in The Grand Canyon State can be recalled for any reason at all and, with one exception, at any time. Unlike such laws in most states, the Arizona law does not require a recall for cause such as criminal activity, fraud, or other real reasons. The only rule seems to be that the elected official has to be in office for six months into his first term before a recall can be mounted. This rule did not apply to the six-term Sheriff. To start a recall, petitioners must gather the signatures of 25 percent of the number of votes cast in the last election.

Brandon Darby’s Epic Smackdown of Wonkette

-By Warner Todd Huston

Sometimes the Internet is fun and Breitbart’s own Brandon Darby had a ball slamming the profane Wonkette after it accused him of being a “snitch” for helping the feds stop a domestic bombing in 2008 as well as lying about what he recently said about the Aryan Brotherhood.

Firstly, for those unaware, Darby used to be a prominent organizer on the left but when he became aware of a popular Palestinian nonprofit’s efforts to kill Israeli civilians, he approached the FBI. The FBI later tasked Darby with infiltrating an anarchist effort to prevent Republicans from assembling during the 2008 RNC. While helping protect the rights of those attending the RNC, a bombing plot against Republican delegates and law enforcement officers was uncovered and Darby ultimately chose to testify against the bomb-makers and his identity was released. Whether Wonkette was upset at Darby for protecting Israeli civilians or for protecting Republican delegates and law enforcement officers, or both, is unknown. Regardless, Wonkette called him a “snitch” for his service.

But Wonkette’s newest attack on Darby is over his latest Breitbart piece, “FBI Documents Connect Aryan Brotherhood with Mexican Cartels.” In it, Darby points out that the Aryan Brotherhood isn’t just about white supremacy anymore.

Mark Levin On Fox’s Dana Perino: ‘I’m Sick Of The Preening, Elitist, Country Club Republicans!’

On April 2 on Fox News’ The Five, former George W. Bush press secretary Dana Perino criticized Doctor Ben Carson for appearing on too many conservative shows. This criticism sent talk show host Mark Levin into criticism of his own saying he was sick of these “preening, elitist, country club Republican(s).”

Ben Carson is the newest star in the conservative firmament and he’s now entering that spot in his debut onto the scene were pundits think they know better about how he should comport himself than he does. Thus, Perino’s advice for Carson is to stop doing TV and radio and “lay low” for a while.

Why? According to Perino it’s because doing conservative talk radio is bad for his image. Already Carson has “burned through so much of his credibility,” Perino claimed.
