Bankrupt Illinois Spent $12 Million on Medicaid for Dead People

-By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois is constantly at the bottom in every metric that measures our most successful states. It is perennially either the 48th, 49th, or 50th worst state in every category. And now we learn that the state is spending up to $12 million a year that it doesn’t have on Medicaid for people who are dead! Can this state become more of a joke?

The Associated Press recently filed a Freedom of Information Act request and uncovered a disturbing memo from the Illinois state auditor.

“State auditors identified overpayments for services to roughly 2,900 people after the date of their deaths,” the AP wrote.

This was more evidence that Obama’s claims that Democrats are fixing the Medicaid enrollment system is a failure.

Obama Library Starts Off With $100 Million in Corruption in Chicago

-By Warner Todd Huston

Why is it not a surprise that the first moves to make Chicago the home of the Barack Hussein Obama Presidential Library are born in corruption? But I suppose it is a fitting way to start a library for one of the biggest failure and most corrupt politicians ever to sit in the White House.

In the most bankrupt state in the union the Illinois Democrat Party floated the idea of using $100 million in taxpayer dollars to set up the BO Library and the way they went about it all was 100 percent corruption.

Illinois Democrats are desperate to have Chicago named as the site of the Obama Presidential Library, so desperate they pulled a sneaky “off-site” vote to spend $100 million in tax dollars on its construction. But the underhanded vote and the unfunded expenditure of millions the state doesn’t have had Democrats running for cover after politicians, the media, and the voters erupted in criticism of the move.

The snap decision to throw $100 million tax dollars at a project that isn’t even assured came in for heavy criticism in a state that has one of the worst budget overruns in the country. But the way the decision was made and the many conflicts of interest involved in the campaigning for the library also raised eyebrows all across the state.

One such conflict is that the woman who heads the Illinois Arts Council Agency is the wife of the Speaker of the Illinois House, Democrat Michael Madigan. Shirley Madigan expects to have a big role in the planning and construction of an Obama Presidential Library, a project of which her politician husband is a big booster.

Chicago Math: Three is Only Two

-By Warner Todd Huston

On WLS AM 89 radio political reporter Bill Cameron featured an interview with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel that shows just why math is soooooo darn hard for politicians.

The interview was about Rahm trying to get hundreds of millions of our tax dollars to be set aside and wasted–er, bestowed–on a presidential library for Barack Obama.

In the radio clip Rahm says the following:

“I have been to both the Lincoln library, the Carter library down in Atlanta, President Clinton’s library in Little Rock, and seen the economic and cultural energy that’s created.”

So, Rahm has been to “both” of all three locations?

No wonder it is so hard for our Chicago politicians to understand that hard math stuff. When three only equals two, I guess we can see why so much money mysteriously disappears in Chicago.

2014 Illinois Tea Party Tax Day Tea Party Rally in St. Charles

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Illinois Tea Party (illinoisteaparty.net) held its sixth annual Chicago Tax Day Tea Party rally, but this year without the “Chicago” part as the group held their rally in the western suburbs. Specifically, the event was held in the Arcadia Theater in St. Charles where some 300 participants attended to hear candidates for office, activists, and patriotic music.

The April 15 rally targeted Obamacare and Senator Dick Durbin, of course, but mentions of the Illinois Republican Party, Sec. of Treasury candidate and establishment GOPer Tom Cross, and Senator Mark Kirk drew as many boos as the Democrats showing that grass roots conservatives have about had it with the feckless, powerless Illinois GOP.

Head of the Illinois Tea Party Denise Cattoni

Not all elected Republicans were opposed, though. One of the very first speakers introduced by Ill. Tea Party chief Denise Cattoni was State Rep. Jeanne Ives of Wheaton. Ives, while not a dynamic speaker, had a great five-minute speech written up with her key point being that she was going to be troublesome to the state Republican Party. “I will continue to be troublesome, just as troublesome as possible in Springfield,” she said warming to her theme.

State Rep. Jeanne Ives

The first speaker was State Senator Jim Oberweis, who went on first so he could get to a fundraiser.

Candidate for U.S. Senate Jim Oberweis

Oberweis is running as an admitted “underdog” to ultra left-wing Senator Dick Durbin. Obie, as his supporters affectionately dub him, noted that we need to stop the extremism in Washington and made to whip the audience up to dump Durbin by having them repeat, “Millionaire. Career politician. Dick Durbin. Must Go!”

Millionaire Sen. Dick Durbin Happy to Pay More for Food for Min Wage Hike And Wants to Force You To

-By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois’ millionaire Democrat Senator Dick Durbin says he’s happy to pay more for his food if workers get a hike in their minimum wage.

The super rich Durbin who makes far and away more than the average citizen in his state and who has a net worth of far more still, said hew would be pleased as punch to pay “a nickel more” for a hamburger if workers get more per hour than they do now.

So, this rich guy doesn’t mind paying more for food in a state that has the worst unemployment record in the country? He wants his own citizens to pay more for things when they can’t afford to get by now?

In fact, the very people who his policies have already helped ruin are living in a state that is in one of the worst financial conditions than nearly every state in nearly every category.

Senator Mark Kirk is NOT a Republican, Now By His Own Admission

-By Warner Todd Huston

Senator Mark Kirk (RINO, ILL) has always been a 50 percenter with the Republican Party, meaning that he only supports the party he is supposed to belong to around 50 percent of the time. But now, seemingly by his own admission, he’s become a full Democrat with his decision to fight against the GOP nominee for Senate and support the re-election of Democrat Senator Dick Durbin, the single most left-wing promulgator of lies in the U.S. Senate.

Today, Mark Kirk has just taken the penultimate step to becoming a Democrat with this decision to support Democrat Durbin over his own party’s nominee for U.S. Senate, Jim Oberweis.

Democrat Kirk, the cripple from Lake County, just said that he would rather “protect” his “relationship” with the most left-wing liar in the Senate than help a fellow Republican get elected.

“I’m going to be protecting my relationship with Dick and not launching into a partisan jihad that hurts our partnership to both pull together for Illinois,” Kirk said Monday during an event for Texas Senator John Cornyn.

Ill. Rep. Gutiérrez Likely On Verge of Ethics Charges Filed Against Him

-By Warner Todd Huston

New reports suggest that Chicago Congressman Luis Gutiérrez (D, ILL) is likely expecting to be charged with ethics violations in Washington.

USA Today reports that Gutiérrez has already spent some $30,000 in legal fees in preparation of defending himself from charges of ethics violations and no violations have yet been filed. It seems clear that the Congressman is sure they are on the verge of being filed.

Even with no investigation announced, in January the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) noted that at least one question over the Congressman’s actions was being held for consideration after the Illinois primaries (Election Day is March 18).

Naturally, Gutiérrez is refusing to make any statements on this matter–and that is probably a good idea since the whole matter is completely up in the air at this time.

Illinois Wins Again: Worst Unemployment Record in USA

-By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois continues to rack up plaudits as one of the worst states in the entire country for every measure that makes a successful state. Bad bond ratings, among the highest for people moving away from her, worst pension messes, crummy education, etc. And now, Illinois has won the booby prize as the single worst state in the union for its unemployment track record. Yaaaa, Illinois.

At 9 percent unemployment, Illinois now has the worst unemployment rate of every state around it in the Midwest. But even worse for the Land of Sinkin’–er, I mean Land of Lincoln–the state has the worst downward trends in employment for the whole country. Illinois’ unemployment rate has gone up more times than its gone down and that is the worst record in the whole country over the last five years.

As the Illinois Policy Institute recently noted, “Illinois’ recovery from the Great Recession has been hindered by self-inflicted wounds. After the 2011 tax hikes, the Illinois jobless rate jumped from 9.4 percent to 10.2 percent. The US average declined in the same period.”
Meanwhile, in the surrounding Midwestern state, every state but Illinois has had a downward trend for unemployment by about an average of some 2 percent. And yet, Democrat controlled Illinois has seen unemployment go up and up.

Ill GOP Gov Poll: Rauner Still Leading, Dillard Takes Second Place

-By Warner Todd Huston

The folks at Champion News has the results of a new poll that shows that race for the GOP nomination for Governor has tightened a little and a new candidate has stormed into second place.

Conservative businessman Bruce Rauner is still in the lead, but his numbers have dropped to 18 percent. This is to be expected as we get closer to primary Election Day.

But the more interesting aspect of this poll is that State Senator Kirk Dillard has stormed into second place while State Treasurer Dan Rutherford, the former number two man, has fallen to the bottom of the pack.

The poll gives Rauner a big lead at 35.6 percent. But Dillard has come from last place to second with 17.25 percent of the vote. Then, taking up a perennial third place, State Senator Bill Brady garnered 12.8 percent of the vote.

Sen. Dillard Criticized for Taking Teachers Union Endorsement

-By Warner Todd Huston

This morning, Senator Kirk Dillard was “especially proud” to accept the endorsement of the Illinois Education Association (IEA) for the GOP nomination for Illinois Governor.

According to IEA president Cinda Klickna Dillard has shown that he values the expertise and opinions of the IEA.

“Sen. Dillard supports our fight for adequate funding for public education and he stood up to tremendous pressure and voted against the unfair and unconstitutional pension bill, Senate Bill 1,” Klickna said during this morning’s press conference.

“Illinois needs a fighter who believes in public schools and that is why IEA is proud to recommend Senator Kirk Dillard for the Republican nomination for governor,” she added.

The IEA is the largest education union in the state with some 130,000 members.

Dillard focused his comments on “the teachers” and education in general, but steered clear of talking about the union itself or the political abuses perpetrated public employees unions in general.

Some Sparks At WLS GOP Governor Debate

-By Warner Todd Huston

The debate stage.

Tonight, February 10, WLS AM 89 talk radio, hosted a debate of what was supposed to be all four candidates vying for the GOP nomination for governor. Unfortunately, only three decided to accept the invitation to join the debate. Candidate Rauner decided not to speak to the six or seven hundred locals nor the WLS radio audience.

Snub: Bruce Rauner’s empty poduum.

In attendance were State Treasurer Dan Rutherford, and State Senators Bill Brady and Kirk Dillard. Not in attendance< was businessman Bruce Rauner. WLS talk show host Dan Proft moderated. I have to say, most of what what was said by the candidates was run of the mill stuff they've all said 100 times before--and for some over several losing campaigns for the same office. But a few sparks did fly, one over a new issue and another over an old.

Rutherford and Brady sharing a laugh before the debate.

Firstly, though the biggest disappointment of the night was that all three candidates denounced Illinois being a right to work state and all dismissed the idea that the union should be limited in the Land of Lincoln. But since most are taking big donations from the union, I guess that shouldn’t be a surprise.

But the fact is, every Republican should be an opponent of government employee unions.

Senator Dick Durbin Lies With Impunity

-By Warner Todd Huston

Senator Dick Durbin is at it again, lying through his teeth, this time about Obamacare. On Sunday’s Meet The Press, Illinois Democrat Durbin made the wild-eyed claim that ten million Americans found new health insurance thanks to Obamacare. He also claimed that Obamacare would lower the deficit. But even the Washington Post gave its worst rating to Durbin’s lies.

As the discussion shifted to healthcare during the Feb. 5 broadcast, host Bob Schieffer lamented that Obamacare is still confusing everyone and asked Durbin if there is “any hope of getting it straightened out”?

Durbin lied with his very first words.

“Bob, let’s look at the bottom line. The bottom line is this. Ten million Americans have health insurance today who would not have had it without the Affordable Care Act–10 million.”

Then he lied about the deficit:

State Treasurer Dan Rutherford’s Public Statement on Upcoming Charges

-By Warner Todd Huston

Today, Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford has come out to charge that operatives of rival GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner is trying to smear him. Rutherford says he is being extorted by an attorney connected to Bruce Rauner who is representing someone who plans to make some sort of harassment charge against the Treasurer.

The thus far unnamed person is apparently an employee of the Illinois Department of the Treasury. Rutherford claims that he was contacted by an attorney who works (or has worked) for Rauner and that attorney said that if Rutherford pays his publicly unnamed client $300,000, no charges will be filed.

Rutherford says that Rauner is initiating a shake down effort and attempting to hurt Rutherford’s campaign for Governor.

Now, Rutherford has put out an official statement about this issue:

Ill. GOP Congressmen React to Obama’s SOTU Speech

-By Warner Todd Huston

Several Illinois Republican Congressmen released statements after President Obama’s State of the Union speech last night. Congressmen Roskam, Hultgren, and Kinzinger reacted to the speech, and so did the President of the Illinois chapter of Americans for Prosperity.

First of all, Obama straight out lied several times in his speech last night. His biggest lie was the claim that he once again trotted out saying women only make 77 cents to a man’s dollar in the job market. This is simply a lie, one the left trots out repeatedly despite it being wholly false.

Obama also misled when he touted how his constantly failing Obamacare law has signed up. His claimsContinue reading

Proft Says No Connection Between PAC and Anti-Rauner Group as Rauner Takes Hits for Flip Flop

-By Warner Todd Huston

The good folks at Illinois Review recently reported that a large donation to Liberty Principles PAC–a group helmed by WLS talk show host Dan Proft–caused rumors to circulate that claimed that the $1.5 million donation was in response recent anti-Rauner ads being funded by a pro-union group and headed up by a one of GOP Congressman Arron Schock’s associates. Tonight, Proft is responding to the rumors.

Proft told IR that the donation by Dick Uihlein is earmarked only for state legislative races, not federal races, not the Governor’s office or other top spots. So, the donation is not intended to help get Rauner elected through efforts by Proft’s PAC.

As Proft told IR: “The investment represents Mr. Uihlein’s ongoing commitment to the economic liberty policy agenda and to Illinois state legislative candidates who share that commitment. Mr. Uihlein’s financial commitment is shared by a growing number of Liberty Principles PAC donors who understand the need for new political leadership in Springfield in order for Illinois to attract and retain businesses and grow jobs.”

VIDEO: A New Kirk Dillard Slam Making the Rounds

-By Warner Todd Huston

Thus far about the only GOP gubernatorial hopeful in the news has been Bruce Rauner (brucerauner.com). With his many promises to rewrite the whole Illinois Constitution to fix what ails us and his deep pockets he was early out of the chute. But this week a video slamming Kirk Dillard has also popped up showing that the race is just starting to warm up.

Of course Rauner, with all his millions of dollars, has hit the ground early with TV ads most of which slam current governor, Democrat Pat Quinn. Rauner is acting as if he is already the nominee, ignoring his competitors and going straight at Quinn and other lifer politicians.

Whatever you think of all Rauner’s many and varied promises, pretending he is the only one in the race is probably a good strategy. In any case, as things stand now, he is sucking up all the oxygen in the race.

But, wait. Today came a snide attack on Kirk Dillard (www.dillardtracy.com).

Obviously someone thinks he is a threat.

A video titled”Kirk Dillard Presents a Holiday Tribute to Jim Edgar,” came out that treats Dillard as s childish, star struck fan–and maybe a stooge–of former Governor and one-time Dillard boss Jim Edgar.

The video is chock full of images of Dillard gazing admiringly at Governor Edgar and is amusingly played to the rock tune I Touch Myself, by the 1990s Australian band the Divinyls.

The video was posted on a Youtube account under the name “Michael Martin” and ends with a message saying that the video was “brought to you by Kirk Dillard and your friends at MSI.”

For those of you who may have forgotten (as I had at first), MSI stands for Management Services of Illinois. The reference refers to a scandal from August of 2000 that linked aides of Edgar and then Senate President James “Pate” Philip to MSI, a company that was accused of bilking the state out of some $12 million dollars.

Four More Years: Pat Quinn Wins 2014 Illinois Governor Race

The Illinois Democratic Machine would like to congratulate Governor Pat Quinn on his 2014 re-election!

And a special thanks goes to Illinois Republicans for making it possible! Their support of our pension plan helped the Governor seem like a reformer instead of just kicking the can.

You know, it’s a funny story… Democrats control Illinois, so we were getting hammered for not fixing the pension crisis.

To avoid getting blamed, we hatched a plan: repackage old ideas, call them “reform”, and the Republicans do the rest. They took the bait and let us off the hook. (No joke, it was really that easy.)

So here’s a toast to Illinois Republicans–for passing a a pension bill that does nothing but give us another four years.

Sen. McCain Slams Republicans Comes to Aid of Extremist Democrat Durbin

-By Warner Todd Huston

Folks, here is just another example of why Senator John McCain is a traitor to the Republican Party. On October 28, McCain came to the support of Democrat Dick Durbin, one of the worst, most partisan hacks for leftism in the Senate.

Last week Durbin promulgated the outright lie that Republican House members insulted President Obama to his face in a meeting at the White House. Durbin not only pushed the lie he sent out fundraising letters using the lie as its chief message.

Durbin told the nation that Republicans said to Obama’s face that they “cannot stand to even look at him.” This was a lie. It never happened and even the White House agreed that it never happened.

Almost immediately Durbin was informed that he was pushing a lie. But he did not back down. In fact, he sent out fundraising emails built on the lie.

Dem. Senator Dick Durbin Lies That Republican Said He Couldn’t Stand to Look at Obama

-By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois Senator Dick Durbin has not only been caught red (or blue) handed in a lie, but now he’s doubling down on that lie by claiming that a Republican leader in the House of Reps. told the President to his face that he “cannot stand to look at him.”

Senator Durbin, the second highest ranking Democrat in the U.S. Senate, took to his Facebook page to call Republicans names (as he usually does) and passed on the lie that Republican leadership hates Obama so much they “cannot even stand to look at” him.

**UPDTATE**

Durbin is also trying to raise money on this lie sending out fundraiser emails to supporters pushing the lie that Republicans insulted the President to his face.

See Illinois Review for the story.

Here is what Durbin posted on October 20 at 11AM:

Many Republicans searching for something to say in defense of the disastrous shutdown strategy will say President Obama just doesn’t try hard enough to communicate with Republicans. But in a “negotiation” meeting with the president, one GOP House Leader told the president: “I cannot even stand to look at you.”

What are the chances of an honest conversation with someone who has just said something so disrespectful?

But as soon as this calumny was belched out by the Soldier-hating Senator (see video above) denials from Republican leaders John Boehner and Eric Cantor were released. It just didn’t happen, they said.

UPDATED: Tell Hultgren to Drop His Support For A New Obama National Global Warming-Pushing Czar

-By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois’ 14th District Congressman, Randy Hultgren, is a co-sponsor of a bill to create a national Science Laureate. This position will be little else but a chance for Obama to push someone into the national debate that supports all his favorite, left-wing pseudo scientific ideas like global warming, abortion, so-called green energy, and anti-fracking policy ideas. Hultgren needs to be urged to remove his support for this bill.

Now, at first blush, a Science Laureate almost seems like a harmless idea, one created to encourage kids, for instance, to feel that science is cool. And in fact, that is Hultgren’s point by co-sponsoring the bill.

Here is what a staffer from his office has said of the bill: “This is not a presidential appointment, and there would be no taxpayer money involved. This bill is simply a chance to show our children that discovery science is important and that science can be an exciting and rewarding career.”

Seems inoffensive, right?

Think again.

Illinois Gov. to Make it Easier for Convicts to Get State Jobs

-By Warner Todd Huston

It’s Illinois, so naturally our accidental Governor had to figure out a way to make it easier for convicted felons to get a state job. After all, what would half of the state’s politicians do after they got out of prison? Live off the millions they stole from the government before their trial? Sheyeah, like that will last forever!

So, coming to the rescue is Illinois Governor Pat Quinn who may be about to issue an administrative order eliminating one particular little check box that appears on applications for state jobs. It is the box that demands that applicants inform the state whether or not they have been convicted of a crime or pleaded guilty to one.

Quinn is under the microscope of a group called the Worker’s Center for Racial Justice, a group pushing a campaign to urge the Illinois Governor to “ban the box,” and eliminate the self-reporting requirement on job applications. Quinn has promised that in the next few weeks he will acquiesce to the activist group’s demands.

Frmr Congressman Walsh: Illinois GOP Delegation Wants me to Stay Out of Washington

-By Warner Todd Huston

Joe Walsh was, to say the least, a firebrand as the Congressman for the Illinois 8th District during his one term in Congress. He lost his re-election bid in the 2012 cycle, but while he was out there in D.C. he was always in the news for one thing or another that he said or did. Apparently he was such a firebrand that all our current GOP Congressmen have told Joe not to run for Congress again!

Walsh appeared at an event in Wauconda, Illinois on Sunday, July 28, and told the crowd that he’s poked around with his former colleagues as to whether or not they’d support him for another run for Congress if he should decide to try.

Joe said that his former pals are less than enthused, if you will.

Some say that the reason his form colleagues don’t want him around is so that they can “fold like a cheap tent” in the face of Democrat demands and his presence in D.C. makes that harder to do.

What do you think?

Joint Statement by Illinois House GOP Caucus on President Obama’s Jobs Speech in Galesburg

Illinois House Republicans Peter Roskam (IL-6), Rodney Davis (IL-13), Randy Hultgren (IL-14), John Shimkus (IL-15), Adam Kinzinger (IL-16), and Aaron Schock (IL-18) issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s speech in Galesburg, IL:

“Today, President Obama made his 19th pivot back to what has always been most important to Americans, jobs and the economy. With its 9.2% unemployment rate, full-blown budget crisis and sky-high taxes, our shared home state of Illinois is an example of government making all the wrong economic choices. However, no amount of presidential pivots and speechmaking will change the fact that too many Illinoisans are out of work. It doesn’t have to be this way.

“House Republicans have never strayed from our focus on creating jobs and strengthening our economy. We are developing a tax reform package for individuals and businesses that would increase American competitiveness in the global economy. We have passed a jobs and skills training package, approved the Keystone XL Pipeline, acted to protect families and individuals from a costly healthcare law and put forth a plan to permanently fix our student loan crisis. These proposals would immediately and demonstrably boost the economy, and set the foundation for long-term growth. We agree with the president, too many Americans are struggling in today’s economy, and we stand ready to work toward real, bipartisan solutions, not listen to another stump speech.”

Ill Sen. Kirk to Meet With Former Gangster Turned Congressman Over Plan to ‘Crush’ Gangster Disciples

-By Warner Todd Huston

Chicago has been one of the most dangerous places in the country to live for the last several years with gang shootings wracking the city. To address this plague of gangs, Senator Mark Kirk (R, IL) proposed that some 18,000 gang members be rounded up and prosecuted. Now several African American leaders in Chicago are lambasting Kirk for his idea and one former gang member turned Congressman is demanding a meeting with the Senator.

Early in May, Senator Kirk succumbed to utter frustration over the powerlessness of the Chicago police to stop the violence and demanded that the federal government step in and take over.

Speaking of High School cheerleader Hadiya Pendleton, a teen killed during gang violence in 2012, Kirk said of the gangs, “I would like to crush them, because they shot Hadiya.”

“My top priority is to arrest the Gangster Disciple gang, which is 18,000 people. I would like to do a mass pickup of them and put them all in the Thomson Correctional Facility. I will be proposing this to the assembled federal law enforcement: ATF, DEA and FBI,” the Senator said.

Kirk has noted that the law enforcement community has met his idea with skepticism but law enforcement isn’t the only sector of the city to find fault.

Mercatus: Illinois Ranks in Bottom Among The Least Free States in the Nation

-By Warner Todd Huston

One can’t be surprised that Obama’s home state of Illinois is one of the worst five states in the nation–like it is for most other things–in the Mercatus Center’s study of the level of freedom in each state. Naturally Illinois ranks close to the bottom of the most free states.

This is unsurprising since Illinois is situated at the bottom of all states in several different categories of what makes a successful state.

In this new Mercatus survey, Illinois has slipped two spots since last time now ranking as the 45th state on that evolving scale.

Here is how Mercatus has it…

Analysis of Ranking

Illinois is one of the least free states to live in from the perspective of regulatory policy and personal freedom, but on fiscal policy it ranks in the middle of the pack. However, there are still some fiscal issues in dire need of improvement.

Illinois’s tax burden is dead-center average, while government spending and employment are below average. Government spending has been increasing over time, however, and certain categories, such as employee retirement, are way out of line with national norms. The main fiscal problem is debt: state and local debt make up 25.1 percent of personal income.

Illinois Tops Nation in Growth of Food Stamp Recipients

-By Warner Todd Huston

President Obama’s home state of Illinois has gained a new distinction: it tops the nation in the growth of the number of its citizens on food stamps.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 15.7 percent of the Land of Lincoln’s population are now enrolled in the food stamp program.

As Joe Schoffstall points out: “The USDA’s latest data shows 2,023,635 Illinoisans were enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in February 2013. In February of 2012, 1,831,898 people took part in the program. That’s an increase of 10.5 percent in just one year.”

Schoffstall further notes that, “Illinois was the only state to see a double-digit increase of the number of residents enrolled in the SNAP program from the same time period last year.”

This should come as no surprise. Illinois consistently ranks in with the bottom worst states in nearly every metric used to measure a successful state.
