Is The Rider Of The Red Horse Ascendant?

-By Frederick Meekins

It seems that the slyest way to undermine the Constitution is to claim to be defending it.

General Paul Vallely, through his front group StandUpAmericaus.com, is calling for Barack Obama to step down from the Presidency over allegations of deceit, fraud, corruption, dishonesty, and for violating the oath of office and the U.S. Constitution.

But while all of these are valid charges, the solution presented indicates that the retired general may himself be an aspiring despot waiting in the wings.

For instead of allowing the constitutional procedures established by the Founding Fathers to guide the nation through turbulent periods in its history, Vallely is insisting that new elections must be held this very instant that are to be authorized as a result of citizen petition.

Obama Teaches You Are Not As Important As Him

-By Frederick Meekins

President Barack Obama addressed the graduating class of Kalamazoo Central High School and personally greeted each of the seniors to congratulate them for their academic achievements.

This honor was extended, for the most part, because of the class patting itself on the back for its lack of racial and ethnic discord, which in today’s scholastic environment translates largely into the White students taking with a smile plastered across their faces denouncement for and the accepting of blame for the lion’s share of the world’s problems as elaborated by leftist textbooks, multiculturalist educators, and the discontented minorities that get worked up into a froth as a result of such indoctrination.

Though a scathing column could be written on that in and of itself, that isn’t even the most glaring hypocrisy surrounding this event.

As part of the security procedures surrounding the President’s visit, each of the seniors to be personally greeted by the President had to submit to a Secret Service background check.

Use Evidence Even if Tainted to Convict the Guilty

-By Don Boys, Ph.D.

We are told, “It is better to free 100 guilty men than risk convicting one innocent man,” but that is absurd. While no fair and sane person wants to see an innocent individual go to jail, the above statement is fraught with error. Those “100 guilty” people will be free to prey upon hundreds of innocent ones and will not be limited to one innocent person.

Because of the above warped, witless, and wicked principle, the courts, in 1966, swung to the extreme of protecting the rights of the accused at the expense of the abused with its Miranda ruling. Since then, thousands of felons have walked out of court (or never arrived there) because investigators followed numerous silly, senseless procedural rules–rules put in place to protect crooks not to ensure fairness and justice. However, that may be changing with the Supreme Court’s decision last week to soften the Miranda ruling and it should correct judicial abuse as illustrated below.

The Danger Of A Government With Unlimited Power

-By Thomas E. Brewton

The Obama administration continues the nation’s travels, since Franklin Roosevelt’s socialist New Deal in the 1930s, along what Friedrich von Hayek called The Road To Serfdom.

The fundamental thrust of liberal-progressive-socialist governments such as that of President Obama is to abrogate the rights of private property, aiming at the holy grail of their secular religion: redistribution of income and wealth to reduce everyone to an equally low state of economic equality.

But people don’t readily abandon what they have labored to earn and save. As Lenin purportedly said, “Socialism emanates from the business end of a gun barrel.” Hence the relentless push of liberal-progressives to expand the power of collectivized government in Washington.

McConnell for Colorado: He Loves Guns and The U.S.A…. not so big on the U.N.

I have to say, I find it somewhat amazing to see the sort of campaign videos we’ve been seeing of late. They are hard-nosed, straight-forward, REAL American styled campaign spots. I can’t imagine any time in our past when such hard-core American sentiment would have been evident in campaign commercials like this.

Here is one for Bob McConnell who is running for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District.

Army RANGERS, hoo ah!

So, all you true Americans living in Colorado’s Third, go out and vote for a real American. Vote Bob McConnell.

Chicago Alderman Solis Calls Americans ‘Nazis’

-By Warner Todd Huston

If you are interested in the rule of law, if you are someone who upholds the Constitution, or someone that believes in the sovereignty of America’s borders, Chicago Alderman Danny Solis wants you to know that you are a Nazi. That’s right Moreno thinks you are “wrong,” and you are “evil” if you want to uphold federal laws.

Naturally, Alderman Solis is a pandering, uninformed, loudmouth trying to make points with other people that hate America just like he does.

On June 9, the Chicago City Council voted to boycott companies from Arizona because of that state’s decision to institute its “tough new immigration law,” as the Sun-Times puts it.

Solis ignorantly railed against Arizona in the meeting. “This law is wrong. It’s evil. It [harkens] back to, what I consider to be one of the worst episodes of this world when Nazi Germany was able to identify a particular group of people by [passing] laws that were only the beginning of something that was monstrous,” he blurted out.

Publisher’s Warning Label: That Constitution and Declaration is No Longer Valid Thinking

-By Warner Todd Huston

A Virginia-based publisher has decided that the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and other founding books are likely offensive and they want their readers to understand that these old documents are no longer valid ways of thinking. And so the publisher, Wilder Publications, has put a warning label on its reprints of America’s founding documents and books to shield American’s delicate sensibilities.

The warning label reads, “This book is a product of its time and does not reflect the same values as it would if it were written today. Parents might wish to discuss with their children how views on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and interpersonal relations have changed since this book was written before allowing them to read this classic work.”

The warning labels appear on copies of the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Thomas Paine’s Common Sense, the Articles of Confederation, and the Federalist Papers, as well as other founding books and documents the company reprints.

Freedom Action Conference – August 12-14, Valley Forge, PA

-By Alan Caruba

I don’t usually promote specific events, but the Freedom Action Conference that will convene at Valley Forge, PA, August 12-14, at the Dolce Hotel, is one you should consider attending if, like Howard Beale in the movie, “Network”, you’re mad as hell and aren’t going to take it anymore.

It will feature three days of speakers who will train attendees and provide hands-on knowledge about how to end federal and UN attacks on individual freedoms, states rights, local loss of control, Second Amendment rights, and other issues that affect you and everyone else right where you live.

In 1777, George Washington’s tired and starving troops, having experienced initial defeat at the hands of the most powerful army of its times, retreated to Valley Forge, Pennsylvania to regroup, to train, and to take up the struggle to establish independence. By 1781, they were victorious at Yorktown, Virginia.

Today, Americans are under siege again, but this time from a federal government seeking to overturn the protections of the Constitution and to establish control over every aspect of our lives via legislation that affects our health, our property, our access to energy, and via international treaties that over-ride the Constitution.

Ill. Congressman Hare: Puffing Military Record and Intimidating Voters

-By Warner Todd Huston

Congressman Phil Hare (IL, 17th District) is the perfect example of the sort of congressman no one should want. He’s arrogant. He’s dismissive. He’s self-important. He’s easy to anger. And worst of all he has disdain for his own voters. The man is simply a creep.

In April we had video of this arrogant cuss saying that he didn’t care about the U.S. Constitution in the Obamacare fight. Apparently that darned old rag of paper is meaningless to this powermad pol.

This time we have Congressman Hare intimidating a voter and demanding that this Vietnam vet supply the congressman with his home address so that he, the congressman, can track the constituent down and further threaten him.

Wrong Again

-By Thomas E. Brewton

Senator Charles Schumer is either an economic ignoramus, or he is just performing the usual Democrat/Socialist Party obeisance to the welfare state and labor union extortion.

New York’s Senator Charles Schumer wants to impose a punitive tax on all American companies that employ overseas call centers for customer support.

“English speaking workers, whether they are in Indonesia, Canada, the Philippines, South Africa, are willing to work longer hours for lower wages and as a result Americans lose their jobs,” Schumer said.

How will job creation be improved in the United States by raising businesses’ costs? Will businesses be more able to compete in global markets and protect jobs in the United States? How will consumers be helped when businesses have to raise their prices to cover the new taxes and related costs?

The Republican Roots of the 1964 Civil Rights Act

-By Michael Zak

Rand Paul’s controversial remarks about the 1964 Civil Rights Act illustrate what I have been saying for years, that Republicans would benefit tremendously from knowing and appreciating the heritage of our Grand Old Party. That landmark legislation was the culmination of a century of efforts by Republicans to protect African-Americans from their Democrat oppressors. Let’s look at the facts.

On his deathbed in 1874, Senator Charles Sumner (R-MA) told a Republican colleague: “You must take care of the civil rights bill – my bill, the civil rights bill. Don’t let it fail.” In March 1875, the Republican-controlled 43rd Congress followed up the GOP’s 1866 Civil Rights Act and 1871 Civil Rights Act with the most comprehensive civil rights legislation ever. A Republican president, Ulysses Grant, signed the bill into law that same day.
Among its provisions, the 1875 Civil Rights Act banned racial discrimination in public accommodations. Sound familiar? Though struck down by the Supreme Court eight years later, the 1875 Civil Rights Act would be reborn as the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

During the twenty years of the FDR and Truman administrations, the Democrats had refused to enact any civil rights legislation. In contrast, President Dwight Eisenhower signed the 1957 Civil Rights Act, which had been written by his Attorney General, a former Chairman of the Republican National Committee. The original draft would have permitted the federal government to sue anyone violating another person’s constitutional rights, but this powerful provision would have to wait until the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The bill had to be weakened considerably to secure enough Democrat votes to pass, so violations would be civil, not criminal offenses, and penalties were light. Vice President Richard Nixon helped overcome a Democrat filibuster in the Senate. The GOP then strengthened enforcement with its 1960 Civil Rights Act.

When I was a child, I Thought Like the Obama Administration

Paul A. Ibbetson

Remember when you were in grade school, or dare I say high school, and you found yourself in a humiliating situation after having failed to read the day’s assignment and being called to expound upon your of knowledge in front of the class? If this happened to you then you don’t need me to frame how things transpired, since for most, this was a situation of distress, confusion, sadness, and shame. The memory of facing the class and trying to repel each of the teacher’s questions like incoming missiles can create a sheen of perspiration on the brow even today.

Some people find they relive these situations in their dreams from time to time when the sandman decides to deal them a dirty hand at bedtime. For most, the saving grace that allows us to break free from such situations is that we grew up and took on the responsibility to prepare for the tasks that we face today. This truth is eloquently stated in the Bible in Corinthians, “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.” How the Obama administration could gain from following these wise words!

When I Was a Child….

-By John Armor

Here are recent events concerning the new Arizona law on illegal immigrants in that state. First, the state passes a law which exactly tracks federal law on who is, or is not, an illegal immigrant. Then, President Obama and several other officials of the federal government condemn the law without bothering to read it.

The most common claim against the law is that it authorizes any law enforcement personnel to go up to any person anywhere in Arizona and “demand their papers.” Anyone who bothers to read the law knows this statement is a lie. In an interesting development, it turns out that California law has the same provision that Arizona has just established – once any policemen has made a legitimate stop for any reason, questions can be asked about citizenship.

There are apparently only two major differences between Arizona and California. California has no intention of enforcing its own laws. And, California politicians have a much higher tolerance for hypocrisy and dishonesty than those in Arizona.

Rand Paul’s Inadvertent Warning to Tea Partiers and Conservatives

-By James Simpson

Cliff Kincaid of Accuracy in Media and America’s Survival has a post at News With Views about Rand Paul’s now infamous gaffes on the Rachel Maddow Show. In it he warns that some of Rand’s libertarian views could put him at odds with conservatives on a variety of issues and open him to criticism from all sides.

According to Kincaid, “The libertarian movement was the product of seminars held by the far-left Institute for Policy Studies back in the 1960s and 70s.” And while libertarians are good on fiscal matters, because they believe in limited government, their isolationist positions on national defense, if adopted, would provide opportunities for our enemies to flourish and grow in the vacuum created by our absence.

Michigan To License Journalists?

-By Warner Todd Huston

This is the face of tyranny. A Michigan State Senator has introduced an Orwellian bill that would provide for the licensing of journalists. There is no doubt that this thing is aimed squarely at delegitimizing the New Media, silencing bloggers, and creating a protected class of state approved “journalists.”

State Senator Bruce Patterson is the braintrust behind this flouting of the U.S. Constitution and outrageously enough, this Patterson fellow claims to be a “constitutional lawyer.” Pair him with the “constitutional scholar” we have as president and we have a matched set of revisionists out to steal as much power for themselves as one can find in any tinpot dictatorship! Even more ridiculously, this mustachioed villain is a Michigan Republican, proving that this sort of megalomania infests both sides of the aisle.

So what is this licensing deal supposed to do for we, the stupid people not able to figure out what end is up with current events, anyway? According to Patterson we can’t get “good information” any more because of the proliferation of new sources of info. But not to worry, granny Patterson is here to save the day and he’ll selflessly take it upon himself to determine what news source is a “legitimate media source.” What could possibly go wrong, eh?

It Simply Cannot Return to the Status Quo

-By Frank Salvato

If there is one thing that I have learned in my over 30-years of existing within the political realm it is that if the political world aligns to present the Republican Party with an opportunity to advance on Liberal Democrats and Progressives in government, somehow, someway, they always manage to find a way to shoot themselves in the foot. This point in history is no exception.

During the last election cycle, Republicans railed against the Democrats about earmarks, special interest spending and fiscal irresponsibility. Many rolled their eyes in amusement citing the fiscal irresponsibility of the Republican controlled Congress dating back to approximately 2000, just after the “Republican Revolution.” Yet close to half the electorate recognized that a fiscally debauched decade of Republican spending wasn’t comparable to the steady and consistent tax-and-spend policies of the Democrat Party dating back to before the turn of the 20th Century.

Democrats – and Progressives masquerading as Democrats – were forced to feign frugality where their platform was concerned and slightly more than half the electorate ate-up the media spoon-fed “hope and change” canard, thus empowering the most Progressive Executive and Legislative Branches in recent US history.

Mayor Daley Must Want an 80-Year-Old to be Shot to Death?

-By Warner Todd Huston

It’s no coincidence when Mayor Richard “King” Daley is all over the news sternly scolding 2nd Amendment supporters over their interest in upholding the U.S. Constitution after one of the gang thugs that lives in his city kills a kid or two (or 50 or more). He revels in these deaths like some grim reaper lawmaker. But when the story turns into an 80-year-old man saving his own life with a firearm, “King” Daley’s morbid anti-gun rants suddenly go quiet.

After Mr. Grant, an 80-year-old Korean War vet, heard the sounds of a break-in, he went to investigate the noise and was fired upon by the criminal when he did so. Fortunately, Mr. Grant was not hit by the assailant’s bullet. The, however, crook was not so lucky as Mr. Grant’s return fire hit home killing the intruder on the spot.

What is a Right?

-By Michael Zak

Civil rights. Inalienable rights. Human rights. Animal rights. Individual rights. Group rights. God-given rights. Sacred rights. Natural rights. Positive rights. Negative rights. Children’s rights. Parent’s rights. Patient’s rights. Property rights. Personal rights. Basics rights. Fundamental rights.

Just what is a right? Can some rights be more basics or fundamental than others? Which is more important, a basic right or a fundamental right? Do the rights of the many outweigh the rights of the few? Are rights absolute? One could assert whole new kinds of rights and then argue about where they fit in among all the other rights. How about essential rights, or core rights, or perhaps preeminent rights?

Definitions of the nature and origin of rights vary widely – from a gift from God, to one of Thomas Jefferson or James Madison’s tenets, all the way down to “a good thing” – but these disputes can be left to theologians and historians and scatterbrains. Let constitutional scholars debate the fine points of original intent or understanding — of each delegate? or the drafter of a particular clause? or the Convention as a whole? or Congress? or the ratifying state conventions? What really matters is how rights function within our constitutional system.

On May 5th, we have Cinco de Mayo, a Spanish holiday that celebrates the victory of the Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

The last Monday in May, this year the date will be May 31st, is Memorial Day, the day we celebrate the warriors who defeated many enemies in the past, including from the above countries.

We Have to Talk About Elena Kagan

-By Frank Salvato

The coverage of President Obama’s most recent nominee to the United States Supreme Court, Elena Kagan, has been nothing less than incredible. Of course, the word incredible can be used in several contexts, some good and some bad. To clarify, I am using it in a context meant to mean bad…very bad…incredibly bad.

While the mainstream – or irrelevant – media waxes on about how she is a surprisingly moderate nominee for the president to have chosen, the extent of their critical examination of Ms. Kagan, former and first female Dean of Harvard Law School, consists of yarns about basketball and softball pickup games. As Marcia Kramer of CBS-TV in New York tells us regarding her relationship with the prostitute hustling Eliot Spitzer,

“Spitzer told CBS 2 HD about that time Kagan goaded him into a spaghetti eating contest. Spitzer gave up after eating seven bowls, but Kagan put the picture on the front page of the Princeton paper, no doubt with a ‘saucy’ headline.”

MSNBC’s Gabe Pressman reported on how Ms. Kagan’s nomination was a great victory for the Women’s Movement,

The Legend of the “ER Freeloader”

– Richard J. Little

Yes, uncompensated medical care is a problem but it’s not as big as conventional wisdom leads us to believe. “Big government” may be a villain to the conservative Republicans and the “evil insurance” company may be the object of hatred by liberal Democrats. But the “ER freeloader” is unique in that he is despised by both sides of the Obamacare debate. Liberal democrats constantly attack the “ER freeloader” without mercy and relentlessly cite uncompensated care as justification for the individual mandate. Supposedly, the individual mandate will supposedly use government force to bear to “make the irresponsible freeloaders” pay their own medical bills.

However, what is missing from this narrative is the true cost of uncompensated care. Or more importantly, what is also missing is any information on the true costs of the Obamacare solution.

As it turns out, the data need to answer what the real cost of “ER Freeloading” has been publicly available for quite a while in a document that both sides of the Obamacare debate consider to be an unbiased and accurate source of information on the cost of uncompensated care: the Kaiser Family Foundation’s 2008 study on the Uninsured in America (.PDF File).

Report: May 12, 2010 Sarah Palin In Chicago

-By Warner Todd Huston

In the deep blue sea of the People’s Republic of Chicagoland, Sarah Palin shined like a light of liberty among the darkness of Mayor Richard “King” Daley’s perverse domain. Palin brought hope into the home of President Obama’s cynical “Chicago Way” style of politics, and I was there to witness the May 12 show.

Sarah Palin was her usual effervescent self, upbeat and positive about this great country and happy to appear before us. She reveled in her “aw shucks” persona built from regular Americana, a style that has made her dear to the hearts of so many Americans from coast to coast.

The show started with a little patter between Big John Howell and Amy Jacobson, the morning radio talkers from Chicago’s WIND AM. One of John Howell’s musician buddies performed a few songs for us and I have to say he was pleasant to listen to. Finally, just before the Governor addressed us, the ever avuncular and impressive Guy Benson — who has a Sunday evening show on WIND — entertained us with some political humor.

Then, when the giant curtains parted to reveal the governor, the applause was almost deafening so the evening started with an electric jolt. She immediately asked all U.S. military veterans to stand for recognition to a huge round of applause for her recognition and for ours of our vets.

One of the early things that Governor Palin brought up was this idiotic business of Highland Park High School whose administrators suddenly canceled its girls basketball team trip to Arizona. The team had won the right to play in a tournament for the first time in 26 years. Why was it canceled? Only because the tournament is in Arizona and school administrators are mad at the state. Disgustingly, these school chiefs are using these girls to advance their own political agenda. Palin was amazed that this school was ignorant enough to say Arizona is not a worthy place for their girls to visit yet the school is still sponsoring a trip to China! “Do you know how girls are treated in China,” Palin asked. Then to great applause she suggested that those girls might have to “go rogue.”

Oppressive Government: Feds Tell GA Old Folks They Can’t Pray Before Meals

-By Warner Todd Huston

Big Brother says elderly visitors to federally funded meals at a Georgia senior citizen’s center aren’t allowed to pray to that absurd, dangerous Christian God of theirs. Obama’s Big Brother government contends that since it has paid for their meals the government has the right to slam its iron boot heel down on the necks of those seasoned citizens that dare to engage in such an apostasy toward the state.

Seem absurd? Well it is but that is what happens when the feds roll into town and begin to hand out money. They feel the right to dictate what everyone is allowed or not allowed to do and in the case of Port Wentworth’s Ed Young Senior Citizens Center near Savannah that is to tell these old folks that they are not allowed to pray before a meal.

Chicago TV Reporter Clueless On Gun Buyback Program

-By Warner Todd Huston

Some of my colleagues on the web are saying that Fox News Chicago reporter Tera Williams “revealed her bias” about the relative efficacy of Chicago’s absurd gun buyback program.

In yet another TV report on this meaningless program, reporter Williams was interviewing a Chicago resident on his thoughts about the whole thing. The resident told her, “it’s a good way to start,” to which Williams said “Something’s better than nothing, right?”

Well, no it’s not, Ms Williams. This program has been a complete failure for making a dent in the violence and shootings in the City of Chicago. While other great cities of the nation have seen falling murder rates over the last decade, Chicago has seen its rate rise. Even as this waste of money and time of a program was started in 2006, the murder rate has not been positively affected by the program. In fact, this year the city has already experienced over 100 shooting deaths and we aren’t even at the half way point in the year yet.

But, I am not going to say that Williams’ empty-headed statement is proof of her bias in favor of the program. I’d say it is more like her utter cluelessness of how ineffective it has been.

Since I’ve been otherwise occupied making a living, it’s reassuring to know that my government is looking out for me. In just the last month, our tireless public servants have proposed numerous measures that will make my life better and more worry free.

No longer will I have to worry about drug addicts being able to rig a urine test. The Senate is set to vote on a measure that would make it illegal to sell fake urine for the purpose of falsifying a drug test. Whew.

While they’re at it, Congress is also working on banning smokeless tobacco in Major League Baseball. Not only that, but Obama just signed legislation that bans the Post Office from shipping cigarettes, and the CDC is preparing to launch a co-ordinated 50-state anti-smoking campaign. Did you know that if you cared about the U.S. Constitution you are a racist? Oh, and did you also know that being against big government and being against Obamacare also makes you a racist? Well if you didn’t know that the Nashville Tennessean wants you to realize that if you love the Constitution but hate intrusive, overarching Obamacare… well, you, sir, are a big fat racist. The paper also resurrects the lawmaker-spate-upon lie and lays the blame for all this on the Tea Partiers.

That’s right, for the Gannet-owned Tennessean reporter Nate Rau wants you to know that loving the U.S. Constitution is an evil thing to do and if you don’t accept Obamacare like a fish after a baited hook, then you hate black people, too.

Rau starts his slanted piece off claiming that the current states’ rights debate “raises” the “specter of slavery and segregation.” Of course, it does nothing of the kind except for those looking to use that issue to push their race-baiting schemes. There isn’t a single contemporary states’ rights advocate that has brought slavery and segregation into the argument. Nowhere have states’ rights advocates said that relying on the original American principle of local control is an avenue for somehow bringing back slavery! In fact, it is slanderous and patently stupid to say it does. But this is the sort of race baiting that the 30-some-year-old reporter Nate Rau is trying to enflame. I’d say he is the one raising “specters” not the states’ righters.

Not Protesting about Obama and the Constitution

-By John Armor

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every opportunity to talk about the Constitution while dressed and speaking as Benjamin Franklin. Then, President Obama decided to make a vacation visit to the Grove Park Inn, in Asheville, NC. That’s just a hop, skip and a jump from my home.

So I planned a one-man demonstration, dressed as Franklin, as close as I could get on public property, to the main entrance of the Grove Park Inn. My wife protested that I really should “leave the guy alone when he’s on vacation with his family.” I thought about it, reluctantly agreed. So, this here is my version of “Standing on a Corner, Watching All the Presidents Walk By.”

My main subject is respect for the Constitution. Obama has no such respect. The latest example came just today, Friday. Obama made a public statement that the new, stiff immigration law just signed into effect by the Governor of Arizona, involved “violations of civil rights.”
