Romney’s ‘Mystery Donor’ Revealed

-By Warner Todd Huston

Last week I wrote about a corporation that was formed merely to give Mitt Romney a one million dollar campaign donation, only to fold up shop not long after the donation was done. At the time that the incident was reported no one knew who this million dollar donor was. Now we do.

the mystery donor was a fellow named Ed Conrad, a former top-man in the famous private-equity fund Bain Capitol…

ABC Whitewashing History: No Ciggies No Whites Only in New Early 60s-Based ‘Pan Am’ TV Series

-By Warner Todd Huston

Remember back in the early 1960s when blacks could get any job they wanted in the American airline industry? Oh, and remember back then how no one smoked cuz it was really, really bad for you and stuff? Yeah. No one else does, either. Well, maybe not no one. Big Three Network ABC seems to remember it because that is how they are envisaging how the world worked back in 1963 for its new TV series about airline stewardesses entitled “Pan Am.”

In yet another example of Hollywood PCism run amuck, producers, we are told, “admitted” that studio execs at ABC-Disney nixed any chance that the show’s characters or extras would be smoking during the series even though the historical fact is that the bulk of the adult population of 1960s America smoked.

In fact, smoking was as common as “Coffee, Tea, or me.” Everyone was allowed to smoke on airline flights in the 1960s. It is just a fact. Yet producers have decided that the show will never portray a single fuming butt in flight despite the historical reality.

Heck, who over 45 does not remember cigarette ads portraying doctors telling consumers how smoking was good for your health? I sure do!

Texan Rick Perry In For 2012 Election (All But Announced)

-By Warner Todd Huston

Looks like Rick Perry, current Governor of Texas, is in for the hunt for the GOP nomination for president of the United States. At this point, he’s all but had his official announcement and word is that the announcement is to come Saturday.

Below is the first Perry campaign video and it is smartly focused on the incredible jobs record that Texas has amassed under Perry. After all, having created some 73 percent of all the new jobs in the country is a pretty amazing record.

Media Ninnie Claims She Isn’t ‘Uncivil,’ Tea Partiers ARE Terrorists

-By Warner Todd Huston

Froma Harrop is a typical left-wing, hack journo, of course, but she is also the new president of the National Conference of Editorial Writers. NCEW is a group whose mission is in part “to improve the quality of political discourse” with its “Civility Project.” So, naturally, Harrop just wrote an editorial calling all conservatives and Tea Partiers “terrorists.”

Some civility, eh?…

FBN’s Eric Bolling: ‘Obama’s Economy Will Dip Back Into Recession’

-By Warner Todd Huston

“The debt deal was a bad deal…”

We were told that the country was about to collapse like the Weimar Republic or the Soviet Union, even, if Washington didn’t get that darn debt ceiling hike done. Yet, even as President Obama was signing the very bill that was supposed to save our faltering economy, the DOW tanked closing down 512 points.

I had a chance to talk with Fox Business Network’s Eric Bolling about this mess and, hoping for some happy news, found that Bolling was not so optimistic about the near economic future of our great nation.

Here is our exchange:

Group Gives $1 Mil Donation to Romney Then Disappears

-By Warner Todd Huston

It’s a drive-by donation! A mysterious company formed on March 15, 2011, then donated one million dollars to the Romney for president campaign on April 28, and by June 11th the company filed papers to dissolve. The whole situation has raised many eyebrows about the legality — if not the morality — of the donation.

Various news entities have tried to find out information about W Spann LLC, the company that gave big cash to Romney then disappeared, but info is non-existent. So, what the heck is going on? No one has yet found out…

Alec Baldwin Calls HuffPo Readers Stupid

-By Warner Todd Huston

Ooopsie. Looks like all is not honey and roses in the left-wing, out of the mainstream land of Huffington Post. When one of the site’s most popular bloggers and celebrities calls HuffyPo readers stupid, it makes for a tense atmosphere among the out of the stratosphere left.

Alec Baldiwn, famed for his left-wing diatribes — oh, and some acting here and there — took to Twitter once again to criticize the readers and commenters at HuffPo after a gaggle of negative comments posted at the tail end of one of his latest HuffPo screeds.

“The reading comprehension level of the HuffPo comments folks is alarmingly low. I mean, downright awful,” Baldwin lamented.

Now, usually when I write about things like this I go into why the comment by the writer was made, what misconceptions were evinced by his critics, and what his response was to those critics… but it’s Alec Baldwin and Huffington Post we are talking about here. Making sense of anything that goes on there is somewhat impossible, not to mention a waste of time.

Lake County Tea Party Condemns New York Times for Column Tea Party NOT Terrorists

From the Lake County Tea Party…

(Round Lake, IL – August 2, 2011) Lake County Tea Party takes strong issue with today’s column in the New York Times, “Tea Party’s War on America.” Columnist Joe Nocera characterizes the Tea Party as “terrorists” who have “waged jihad,” who wear “suicide vests” and who have “gleeful willingness to destroy America’s full faith and credit.”

Lake County Tea party member Bonnie Quirke noted, “Last winter when Congresswoman Gabriella Gifford was shot, there were widespread accusations in the media blaming conservatives such as Sarah Palin for the attack. President Obama soon urged that politics in America adopt a more civil tone. Where’s the civil tone now?”

Memorial Video for U.S. Border Agent Killed By Obama’s Gun Running Program

-By Warner Todd Huston

So far, Obama has gotten away with murder… literally. But we haven’t forgotten the murder of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in December 2010.

This Gunwalker/Operation Fast and Furious scandal should be enough to at least get U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder fired if not having some members of Obama’s FBI, BATF and other agencies sent to jail…

Why Does the Media Let VP Biden Get Away With it?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Earlier we reported that Vice President Joe Biden called the Tea Party folks “terrorists.” Biden has denied he said it, but even the left-wing media is satisfied that he did. Not a soul believes Joe’s denial. But the “terrorism” gaffe isn’t the only stupid comment Biden made this week. The question is, though, why does the media just laugh and let Joe Biden get away with it all the time?

The other stupid comment Joe Biden made was when he said that triumphant representative Gabrielle Giffords was a member of the “cracked head club” just like he was. What is wrong with this moron?…

Those Evil Fatcats… They Are Our Congressmen and Senators

-By Warner Todd Huston

As many of our congressmen and senators wail abut the eeeevil rich, as they sit in D.C. and claim that “the rich” need to be punished for their success, as many of them constantly look for new ways to turn Americans against “the rich,” we find out that “the rich” include those same over paid members of Congress that are so hotly engaged in class warfare.

A new report by the Taxpayers Protection Alliance titled Are Taxpayers Getting Their Money’s Worth?, provides an analysis of Congressional compensation that shows that members of Congress make far and away more than lawmakers of other western countries — second only to Japan — not to mention the average American of similar station…

Sen. Marco Rubio Wonders Where Obama’s Budget Plan Is?

-By Warner Todd Huston

It amazes me that after all this time of the debt crisis discussion, after the media has spent hours upon hours scolding Republicans for being the “party of no,” that President Obama has remained absent from the actual discussion and has offered no plan of his own.

Yet, even as Obama’s failure to lead has become painfully obvious to anyone actually paying attention, the Old Media has given no coverage of Obama’s abject failure to lead.

To so many in the general public that have not paid close attention, they listen to the Old Media’s overage and think it is the Republicans that have offered no plan. But, as Florida Senator Marco Rubio notes in the video below, it is the GOP that has offered multiple plans, multiple bills, multiple compromises while the Democrats have continually said no, no, no…

A Few Things Illinois Needs to know about the Debt Crisis

-By Warner Todd Huston

The debt crisis is a national disaster, of course. But Illinois will likely be affected worse than many other states. For one thing, Illinois is the most broke state in the union and will be affected more immediately by the mess that is our national economy than any other state. But, as Fox Business network’s Ashley Webster reports, there are five things that Illinoisans need to know about how the crisis will affect them.

Webster will be doing a special report on Fox Business Network on Monday, August 1 at 5AM, talking about how the debt crisis will affect Illinois, but I had a nice exchange with him and he gave me a little sneak peek at his report.

Webster told me several important points that the debt crisis means for Illinois.

Gays, Media, Ignore MSNBC Talker’s Gay Slur

-By Warner Todd Huston

We all know that the Old Media is filled with double standards where it concerns treatment of conservatives and liberals. Last week we found yet another example of the media’s penchant to hypocrisy when a talking head on MSNBC used a derogatory term associated with gays yet the entire militant gay establishment and their pals in the Old Media ignored the whole thing. We all know that if a conservative had issued a gay slur like that the tale would have overshadowed every story in the news today.

Last week MSNBC’s left-wing talker Dylan Ratigan had fellow talking head Jimmy Williams on his program to discuss the debt ceiling talks going on in D.C. The discussion turned to head of Americans for Tax Reform Grover Norquist, whom Williams idiotically called a “petty criminal.” But what Williams said of the relationship he felt that Norquist and Newt Gingrich had was far worse. (My bold)

One person is controlling the agenda of the United States of America right now and his name is Grover Norquist. Grover Norquist was Newt Gingrich’s butt buddy…

First of all, it is simple-minded, and nothing but foolish demagoguery to seriously posit that Grover Norquist is “controlling the agenda of the United States of America right now.” Williams makes himself a clown with such nonsense. But that he goes on to use a gay slur right afterward truly makes of him no one worth taking seriously.

Obama’s Plans To Control Every Drop of Water in the USA

-By Warner Todd Huston

This is the last day to voice your concern about Obama’s plan to take control of every source of water in the USA.

The Democrats are pushing legislation that would take the word “navigable” out of our current Clean Water Act. If successful, the reconfigured law would give to the federal government the power over every water source in the USA. Every river, lake, stream, every creek, every driblet, even every stand alone pond would come under control of Washington’s EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers.

Conceivably, if you have a puddle in your back yard the federal government will have control of it!…

Obama Mentioned ‘Gun Tracing’ in 2009 Mexico Visit

New York Times Blames American Conservatives for Norway Massacre

-By Warner Todd Huston

The New York Times is never one to let a good tragedy go to waste when it can turn that sad incident into a bludgeon with which to bash American conservatives, even if the incident doesn’t have a thing to do with conservatives, D.C. politics, or even the U.S.A., for that matter. And so, not to disappoint, the Gray Lady incongruously used the terrorist incident in Norway to attack conservatives in America.

Anders Behring Breivik, the killer in Norway, released a manifesto of sorts explaining his actions and in that document he quoted several American bloggers and national security activists such as Islam terror expert Robert Spencer. This, the Times decided, was enough to blame American conservatives for the incident.

Of course, the Times was practically silent about the influence of radical Islam on Major Nidal Hassan who killed 13 U.S. soldiers at Fort Hood in 2009. The Times also did its best to ignore radical Islam in its reports about the Fort Dix six that planned a major terror attack in New Jersey. More recently the Times neglected to mention the radical Islam influence of the pair of homegrown terrorist wannabes arrested in Seattle in June. This is a pattern seen at The New York Times, too. Whenever radical Islam is at the root of a terror attack, the Times routinely fails to note the fact.

Dylan Ratigan: Hates Newspapers, Claims Not to be a Common Leftist

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, MSNBC’s Dylan Ratigan has been saying some interesting things these days, hasn’t he? Most particularly, two amusing things scream out in a recent interview with The Atlantic. One was that he refuses to read newspapers and the other is that he wants people to think he isn’t the doctrinaire liberal everyone assumes he is. Neither claim will endear him to his lefty pals at NBC, but which one is more likely true?

First of all, it is pretty amusing to see a denizen of MSNBC diss the newspapers like Ratigan did. When asked how he takes his daily news he said, “I wouldn’t read a newspaper now unless you put a gun to my head and even then I would really try to negotiate with you. It’s not that I reject the content, it’s that I reject the format.”

Ouch. Of course, at some point one wonders what he’s reading if not at least some coverage of the newspapers even if only on the net. Still, it must hurt to have one on their own side saying that newspapers don’t fit in his world.

Media Matters Takes another Shot at Stirring Up Anti-Truth Outrage

-By Selwyn Duke

It really is a shame when a media watchdog has a twisted nose that mistakes putrescence for floral aroma – and vice versa. In a piece published Monday, self-proclaimed media watcher MediaMatters (MM) criticizes Fox News for running the supposedly “misleading headline”: “Cambridge, MA set to Pay Gay Employees More Than Straight.” MediaMatters takes issue with Fox because the headline doesn’t explain that the reason for the measure is to compensate homosexuals for a tax that married couples don’t have to pay.

Of course, a headline is a hook, designed to draw readers in, not an explanation. But Fox offered no such explanation – at least that’s what MM leads its readers to believe. The attack dog writes that Fox “excerpted an article from The Daily Mail, which has a similarly misleading headline. However, the Daily Mail article clearly explains that the city is offering gay employees a stipend to offset a federal tax that does not apply to straight employees.” The Daily Mail “clearly explains” this, so, obviously, Fox doesn’t.

Except that it does.

Obama 2009: Don’t Raise Taxes in a Recession/Obama 2011: We Need to Raise Taxes

-By Warner Todd Huston

There has come a great marker of Obamaism that holds that everything he says has an expiration date and that he simply has no integrity because of it. How many foreign policy ideas (especially about the wars) has he presented that he’s done a 180 on? Well, here is another one, this on taxes. Just in 2009 Obama was saying that we shouldn’t be raising taxes during a recession, yet only two years later all he wants to do is raise taxes even though we are still in that self-same recession.

In 2009, just ahead of the 2010 midterms, Obama was happily telling NBC that he wasn’t raising taxes because we were in a recession. In 2009 Obama said…

Obama’s Mexican Gun Running Paid For by Stimulus Money

-By Warner Todd Huston

This Operation Fast and Furious or Project Gunrunner (also called Gunwalker) scandal just keeps getting worse. Now we find out that Obama funneled stimulus dollars to help fund his plan to arm Mexican narco terrorists with US guns that have ended up killing Americans and Mexicans alike and have ended up in gang activity back here in the US.

That’s right. Obama was so intent on arming murderers in Mexico that he and his minions carved out stimulus money for the project. Obama’s Veritable Intercontinental FAILroad

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, maybe John Sexton and I both gave Obama a little too much credit on this “intercontinental railroad” gaffe? When he and I wrote about this little gaffe we both assumed that it was no big deal, that it was juts a slip of the tongue — and an easy one to make at that — but that it was evidence of how the Old Media gave Obama a free pass on mistakes. But now it is starting to look like Obama really doesn’t know the difference between the words “intercontinental” and “transcontinental.”

The first incident that John found was posted at Verum Serum a few days ago. He found a video clip of Obama calling the famous American railroad line finished in 1869 an “intercontinental” railroad. Of course it was not intercontinental at all as it was fully contained inside but one country: ours. It was, of course, a transcontinental railroad as it ran across our own country from coast to coast, bringing our nation into one more easily traveled land mass for the first time.

Now, when John and I first saw this gaffe we imagined that it was less evidence of Obama’s stupidity and more evidence of the Old Media’s penchant for covering for any Obama mistake simply because the gaffe had never been reported by the national news. Obviously Obama’s verbal mistakes are not ballyhooed like those mistakes made by conservatives and this little incident was an example of that.

When is a Gaffe Not a Gaffe? When Obama Repeats it Over and Over

-By John Sexton of Verum Serum

That silly gaffe that I discovered a few days ago turns out to have been one of as many as half-a-dozen occasions where the President told the same story and made the same error. Here he is giving a commencement speech at the University of Michigan on May 1, 2010:

Reuters reported on the speech including the bit about the “intercontinental railroad”, but apparently no one caught the gaffe. Of course it was a transcontinental railroad, not an intercontinental one.

Obama made the same mistake again at a March 2011 fundraiser for Sen. Nelson. Politico reported the quote but, like Reuters, somehow missed the gaffe:

“My favorite Republican, Abraham Lincoln, happened to be from my home state, but he was a good president,” Obama told the crowd of Democrats who had paid some big bucks for the pep rally. “He was a guy who invested in the intercontinental railroad, and land grant colleges, and the National Academy of Sciences,” he paused, “in the middle of the Civil War!”

The gaffe spread to other members of the administration. As I noted yesterday, David Axelrod repeated the same mistake last weekend. But it turns out VP Biden repeated it as well. As you can see here, Time magazine reported Biden saying it, but like Reuters and Politico, missed the gaffe:

Conservatives, Tea Partiers Still Not Warming to Mitt Romney

-By Warner Todd Huston

CNN is reporting that the “Christian right” and the Tea Partiers are still nowhere near supporting Mitt Romney’s bid for the GOP nomination for president. Romney’s flip flopping on abortion, his full-on and continued support for his disastrous Romneycare health plan in Massachusetts prompting fear that he will end up supporting Obamacare if he wins, and other flip flops in his record have kept conservatives of many stripes away from supporting him.

Rightfully so, I should hasten to add.

Of course, Romney is leading far and away in most of the polls with Michele Bachmann currently coming in a distant second, so it is interesting to see the base still leery of a Romney candidacy. One has to wonder how the polls can show Romney so far ahead if CNNs report is correct on the base and it’s feelings against Romney. Perhaps these polls are really only based on name recognition even still and the real race has yet to begin…

Newsweek: White House Intimidation of NBC ‘Reprehensible’

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Old Media is still acting shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, that the Obama administration treats them like a redheaded stepchild. Newsweek’s The Daily Beast, for instance, is incredulous at the “reprehensible” actions of the Obama White House for having the temerity to call NBC to scold the cabler over Mark Halperin’s “dick” comment.

You’ll all certainly recall the incident in question. Back on June 30, MSNBC news analyst Mark Halperin unleashed the “d” word on President Obama in an appearance on the cable station’s Morning Joe talk show. Halperin was asked how he thought Obama did in his June 29 press conference and in reply Halperin joked that Obama had been “a dick.”

From there Halperin’s world went topsy turvy to the point where everyone was apologizing on the set of the TV show and only hours later MSNBC was suspending its analyst “indefinitely.”

But one other little part of this story is what brought the ire of Newsweek’s Douglas Schoen and Judith Miller and for good reason, too. The White House called NBC to complain about Halperin’s language. How is it possible, Newsweek wondered, that the White House was so bold as to attempt to intimidate NBC? Worse, why did NBC buckle under that pressure?

Headline Potpourri #21: NYT Phrenologists, Mr. Turtle Shackled, & Rampaging Huffington

-By Frederick Meekins

A New York Times correspondent insists that Americans living in the middle of the country have sloping foreheads. Weren’t the Nazis also obsessed with equating cranial shape with intelligence?

The Washington Post labeled Glenn Beck as a “creature” in regards to his pending rally in Israel. I thought bastions of tolerance such as the Post use to warm that such linguistic dehumanization was the first step taken by the Nazis.

Since the average American is no longer able to go much of anywhere because of gas prices, environmentalists are now set to declare against home entertainment devices. It is claimed that these machines use too much electricity. Before it’s all over with, they will probably summarily execute those of us wearing eye glasses and march everyone else out to toil in the rice paddies. It will likely fall under Frau Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign.

Newest News on Obama’s Arming of Mexican Narco Terrorists

-By Warner Todd Huston

This past weekend there was a very quiet — in fact a secret — meeting between the chief of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF), Kenneth Melson, and Congressional investigators looking into the gun walker case (also called Operation Fast and Furious) and the results seem to show that the culpability for arming Mexican narco terrorists by Obama’s administration is more widespread than just by the BATF.

BATF head Melson appeared in secret testimony that made matters worse for the Obama administration, showing that the gun smuggling scandal was a shared program among several federal agencies and not just one from the BATF…

David Axelrod Agrees: Lincoln Built an ‘Intercontinental Railroad’

-By John Sexton of Verum Serum

When I caught the President talking about President Lincoln’s “intercontinental railroad” in an interview he gave in February, I thought it was just an off-the-cuff gaffe. But it turns out his former chief political adviser made the same mistake just this weekend at the Aspen Ideas Festival (full video here):

It’s not surprising that both men would occasionally misspeak. It is surprising that both would use the same example, i.e. Lincoln’s “intercontinental railroad” as an example of big government stimulus spending, and make the same verbal gaffe while doing so.

You have to wonder if both the President and Axelrod got the same talking points memo from someone at the Center for American Progress or another friendly progressive think tank. And assuming they did get the handy political illustration from a common source, you have to wonder why neither of them caught the error (replacing transcontinental with intercontinental).

CA Public Schools See Lower Funding But Higher Test Scores

– By Warner Todd Huston

It is pretty amusing to see the Sacramento Bee acting all shocked that less funding from the state didn’t hurt education and higher student test scores were realized despite the lower spending on education. But that seems to have been the case.

As the State of California has floundered state services have had to do with less tax money and the schools are no different than other departments. As the Sac Bee says, “conventional wisdom” states that schools need ever higher amounts of money to successfully teach our children. But, shock of shocks, the Sac Bee has found something that defies that purported wisdom…

John Adams’ Reminiscences of the First Independence Day

-By Warner Todd Huston

John Adams was one of the truly indispensable men among our founding fathers. He was the man that wrote one of the first fully written out Constitutions in human history when he wrote the Constitution of Massachusetts. He wrote a seminal book on government that helped inform the founders of our nation, he was an ambassador to France and other European nations, he was our first vice president, our second president, and more.

In fact, Adams was at the center of one of the incidents that set the tone for our national character. When the Redcoats responsible for the Boston Massacre were put under arrest, John Adams stepped forward to represent the Redcoats in court. Many of his fellow patriots were amazed at this offer, some even incensed at Adams for doing so. But Adams said that the rule of law was far more important than merely making points with the home crowd and the Redcoats deserved to have competent representation…
