Multicultural Suicide

-By Alan Caruba

In his famed poem, Mending Wall, the American poet, Robert Frost chided the rock wall that he and his neighbor would mend each spring, replacing fallen rocks. “He is all pine and I am apple orchard. My apple trees will never get across and eat the cones under his pines, I tell him. He only says, ‘Good fences make good neighbors.’

You can see the Great Wall of China from outer space. It is an astonishing piece of work

Begun in the fifth century B.C. and added to by later dynasties, it succeeded in defending China from invasions by northern tribes. In 1600, it helped the Ming dynasty defend against the Manchu, but when the gates at Shanhaiguan were opened in 1644 by a dissident Ming border general, the Manchus quickly seized Beijing and that was the end of the Ming dynasty.

Union Thug Attacks a Young Woman Outside Freedomworks HQ, Wash. D.C.

-By Warner Todd Huston

Another union thug reveals the hate and violence in his heart…

This incident occurred outside of the Washington D.C. headquarters of the conservative activist group Freedomworks (spokesman former Representative Dick Armey) on February 23, 2011. This particular thug was wearing the (fittingly) red T-Shirt shirt of the Communications Workers of America (CWA). The young woman being assaulted is the 20 something Tabitha Hale, Freedomworks new media maven.

Ill. State Sen. Rickey Hendon Suddenly Resigns

-By Warner Todd Huston

In a surprise move State Senator Rickey R. Hendon of Chicago has announced that he is resigning his 5th District seat at the state capitol. Hendon has held his seat since 1993.

Hendon denies claims that he is resigning over any “federal problems,” but it is interesting that he should resign after information on people tied to him was demanded by a grad jury only last December.

The federal grand jury is investigating misuse of Illinois state grants as part of “an official criminal investigation.”

All Teachers Unions Must Fall, Not Just Wisconsin’s

-By Warner Todd Huston

The lies that have been peddled by the unions in Wisconsin are legion. They are claiming that Walker has a budget surplus he’s hiding, he isn’t. They have been claiming that it “isn’t about the money,” but it is. They have even claimed to be “sick” by having real doctors issue falsified sick letters so that they can play hooky from school, shutting down both Wisconsin’s government and its schools. These lefties have also claimed that Governor Walker has surprised everyone with his anti-union drive.

On the that last one, nothing could be further than the truth. Governor Walker’s entire political career has been filled with similar pronouncements, policies, and attempts at policies.

But there is one more lie that is universal across the education establishment: more money will fix everything. A singular fact is that more and more money being pumped into education is not fixing anything. To prove that, we can turn to Central Falls school in Rhode Island for a little morality play.

Hate is What Unions Sell

-By Warner Todd Huston

This situation in Wisconsin has brought out the truth about unions: they peddle hate. Unions are exactly what Democrats try to claim the Tea Party is, a hate-filled, uncivil, mob of name callers. Unionistas use hateful and violent rhetoric, they call everyone that opposes them Hitler and they lie about their ultimate goals.

Many of you out there may be saying that we shouldn’t hold the obscene actions of a few bad Wisconsin teachers against the whole of uniondom. But we don’t have to restrict ourselves to Wisconsin to see this sort of hateful, violence themed rhetoric.

Yesterday, for instance, Massachusetts Democrat Representative Michael Capuana told a union crowd that sometimes the protesters have to “get a little bloody” on the streets to prove their fealty to the unions.

Gosnell’s Guardians: Philly killer had plenty of help

-By Daniel Clark

News accounts of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell have portrayed him as an isolated lunatic, who committed acts so heinous that nobody else in his profession could have dreamt they were happening. That’s an understandable perception, but is it true?

The district attorney’s report on Gosnell’s “Women’s Medical Society” included a rebuke of the Pennsylvania Health Department, which had discontinued inspections of abortion clinics during the mid-90s. “Even nail salons in Pennsylvania are monitored more closely for client safety,” it says. This period of inaction has coincided with the administrations of two pro-abortion governors, Republican Tom Ridge and Democrat Ed Rendell, who must have felt that health inspections would place an “undue burden” on the “fundamental right” to abortion.

Abortion in 2011: From Tax Breaks to Heartache

Paul A. Ibbetson

Since the United States legalized abortion in 1973 in Roe v. Wade, approximately 40 million abortions have been conducted in this country. These death toll numbers, which continue to mount, dwarf the statistics of Americans killed in war, crime, accidental death from handguns, you name it. As we enter the year 2011, legalized abortion in America is by far the leader in institutionalized death. Prior to 1973 abortion was more than simply illegal, it was a socially shunned activity for both the pregnant mother and the covert abortionist. Today not only have the tables turned on the legality of taking the life of a baby in the womb, but the decades that have passed since Roe v. Wade have seen a continual desensitizing of Americans to the ramifications of abortion.

Since the recent mid-term election the Republican-controlled House has been working to pass the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. Among other things, the bill would stop internal revenue credits for expenses paid for medical care of the taxpayer or the taxpayer’s spouse or dependents for abortion. Furthermore, this bill would stop tax deductions through health benefit plans that include coverage of abortion. The bill is considered only a symbolic action for Republicans in the House of Representatives, since the Democrats will most certainly vote down any similar action in the Senate. It is a little bit too easy to simply look at the political maneuverings here and forget the actual tragedy that has become America.

What Did Reagan Do and How Have Other Nations Solved Their Fiscal Problems?

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Center for Freedom and Prosperity Foundation at CATO has made a few videos that help us understand how we have fixed some of our fiscal troubles in the past. In part two they also looked at a few foreign countries. Now, I have to admit that I am not much interested in what other nations do about anything. They aren’t America. Still, in part two below the folks at the CATO Institute have pointed out a few things that are instructive, if not a tad wonky.

These videos are worth taking a look at.

Obama Misspells Libya on Twitter Feed

-By Warner Todd Huston

So, not only has Obama turned a deaf ear to the dozens getting killed in Libya by their own mad dictator, but when the White House Twitter feed finally did decide to discuss the country it spelled the name of the place incorrectly.

Seriously, White House? “Lybia”? Sounds like something that the Bush Administration would be destroyed over by the left-sold media. So, any chances that the media will make fun of Barack “the world traveller” Obama over this?

Yeah, don’t hold your breath waiting for the smarter-than-thou left-media pundit class to start lambasting Obama any time soon.

Defunding Obama’s Union Led Regulatory Army

-By Warner Todd Huston

You might recall that with great fanfare and the slobberingly positive coverage by the Old Media, President Obama made Reagan-like and claimed that he thought it was time to get rid of the regulations strangling American business. Since that time he’s met with businesses and pretended to suddenly be a pro-business, pro-economic growth president. His actions, however, give the lie to his sudden turn around from anti-business to pro-business man. Thankfully the GOP is making to help the president become what he’s selling himself as, despite his best intentions.

One of those ways that the GOP is assisting Obama to become business friendly — no matter how much Obama hates the idea — was announced last week by John Kline and the Republicans of the Education and the Workforce Committee of the House of Representatives.

Subcommittee Chairman Phil Roe, M.D. (R-TN) announced the closer scrutiny that the GOP intends to level upon the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the federal entity that is supposed to act as a mediator for disputes between labor. That closer scrutiny is a result of Obama’s appointees moving the NLRB from mediator between business and labor to outright advocate in favor of Big Labor.

Wisc. and Ind. Democrats: Union Cash Driving Democrats to Run and Hide

-By Warner Todd Huston

With Democrat state legislators in Wisconsin and now Indiana fleeing their states so that they don’t have to do their job — just call them fleebaggers — it would be easy to assume that Democrats are cowards. If not cowards, then petulant children throwing temper tantrums because voters did not give them a power-lock majority. But while cowardice and petulance both factor into these running donkeys their main motivation is greed. You see, if public employees lose their power then they will have no more money to give Democrats for their campaign coffers.

By far unions are the largest donors that Democrats have all up and down the line from local and state to federal. Unions spent over 50 million dollars on Barack Obama’s campaign back in 2008 and they spent another 50 million for the 2010 midterm elections.

Most specifically pubic employee unions are Democrats biggest supporters. In the last week of the 2010 election, for instance, the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) spent over a million dollars to help elect Democrats. The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) spent almost $400,000.

The Independent’s Over-the-top Anti-Catholic Bias

-By Selwyn Duke

Except for those still caught in the web of the media matrix, it’s no secret that the Fossil Press seeks to destroy conservatism, tradition and Christianity. It’s also plain that central to this are unrelenting attacks on the Catholic Church. But a February 5 piece in The Independent written by one Michael Day reaches a low worthy of Cold War commissars.

The article concerns the fact that Pope Benedict XVI’s status as an organ donor ended when he ascended to the papacy and is titled, “Pope’s organs are too holy to donate to mortals, says Church.” Wow, that sounds really bad. It must be an example of the Church hierarchy superciliously placing itself above the hoi polloi. Except that a discerning person may smell a rat; in this case, a journalism-school rat who would never let the Truth get in the way of a cherished agenda. And, sure enough, while Day repeats the supposed Vatican sentiment in his first paragraph, a little ways further down is the real explanation for the Church’s policy:

Archbishop Zymunt Zimowski, a member of the Vatican health council, said it was because the body of the Pope effectively belonged to the entire Catholic Church. “It’s understandable that the body of the Pontiff should rest intact because, in his role as successor to Saint Paul and universal pastor of the Catholic Church, he belongs entirely to the Church in spirit and body,” he told La Repubblica.

Rahm Emanuel Wins Chicago Mayoral Election

-By Warner Todd Huston

Many of Chicago’s political punditry class imagined that Rahm would win election without a runoff, yes, but perhaps only just. Turns out they were wrong. Emaneul didn’t “just” win his 50% plus one vote, but received about 55% of the vote.

Emanuel’s closest opponent, Gery Chico, only got about 25% of the vote. Chico had hoped to hold Emanuel to less than 50% which would have caused a runoff election.

“Thank you Chicago for this humbling victory,” Emanuel said in his victory speech. “All I can say, you sure know how to make a guy feel at home.”

So, there we have it. Rahm Emanuel is the next mayor of Chicago. Long live the new king.

Truth in Accounting Issues: Pennsylvania’s ‘Financial State of the State’ – True Tax Burden $52 Billion

From the Institute for Truth in Accounting…

Chicago (November 29, 2010) Today, the Institute for Truth in Accounting released Pennsylvania’s “Financial State of the State.” After an intensive review of the State’s 2010 audited financial report the Institute determined the State is in a precarious financial position because it does not have the funds available to pay more than $52 billion of the State’s commitments as they come due. Each taxpayer’s share of this financial burden equals $12,200.

Pennsylvania state law requires a balanced budget. “If governors and legislatures had truly balanced the state’s budget, no taxpayer’s financial burden would exist,” said Sheila Weinberg, founder and CEO of the Institute for Truth in Accounting (IFTA). She continued, “A state budget is not balanced if past costs, including those for employees’ retirement benefits, are pushed into the future.”

Guarded Optimism, But Show Us The Cuts

From the Office of State Senator Chris Lauzen (21st District)…

I am generally a gullible person, typically believing what people tell me. Age is tempering my natural inclination by teaching me that it is wiser to watch what people do, rather than to immediately believe what they say.

I hope that I am not being naïve to be encouraged by several developments within the swamp of Springfield events. My constituents can barely endure discussing the state’s current political and financial situation. They avert their eyes from the train wreck. They shake their heads, throw up their hands, and finally stick out their tongues. They instinctively realize that bankruptcy is the most severe failure of financial trust. And, Illinois is bankrupt.

Wisconsin Teachers: Putting Kids at Risk

-By Warner Todd Huston

Why do these teachers hate Wisconsin’s kids?

A reader named Tom from Des Moines, Iowa, emailed me and asked some pertinent questions of these recalcitrant teachers. I have asked some of these questions here myself and I have heard a few of them floated on Twitter, Facebook and the radio, but it is good to have them all in one post.

The teachers, says reader Tom, keep claiming that it’s all “for the kids” yet their actions here prove that the kids are last on the list as teachers worry more about safeguarding their unions, their high salaries and lucrative benefits.

Nervous Time for the Teachers Unions

-By Larry Sand

Teacher union legal teams gear up for battles all over the country as union power is threatened.

With the recent changing of the political guard in statehouses across the country, teachers unions appear to be in for a rough ride. As one state succeeds in passing reform legislation, another state is encouraged to follow suit and perhaps go one step further.

Last week, the New York Times reported “Governors in Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Nevada and New Jersey have called for the elimination or dismantling of tenure. As state legislatures convene this winter, anti-tenure bills are being written in those states and others. Their chances of passing have risen because of crushing state budget deficits that have put teachers’ unions on the defensive.” Mike Petrilli, Vice President for National Programs and Policy at the Thomas B. Fordham Institute adds “These new Republican governors are all trying to outreform one another.”

The Brit PM’s Limp-wristed Attack on Multiculturalism

-By Selwyn Duke

A sad testimonial as to the effete state of Western culture is that even ineffectual, feminized defenses of it are applauded as brave. Case in point: British Prime Minister David Cameron has made news by giving a speech in which he said that “state multiculturalism” has failed. And while he earned three spots on Drudge and a “hear, hear!” from mainstream conservatives, the truth is that whether or not his words are too late, they are certainly too little.

They’re also just words.

Let’s start by saying that Cameron, like all Western leaders, is a creature of the age who is either unwilling or unable to address the real problem: immigration itself. For it is not just multiculturalism that has failed but also the importation of multiple unassimilable cultures.

Chicago Tea Party to the Rescue‏

From the Chicago Tea Party

Thank you

Thank you to the hundreds of Tea Party Patriots from Chicago and across the state of Illinois who traveled to Madison on Saturday to defend the taxpayers and parents of Wisconsin. We organized car pools, drove our friends and neighbors and paid our own way to get to the rally. We weren’t bused in by Organizing for America, SEIU, or the Democrat National Committee. This is a critical battle in the fight between freedom and big government and it will be repeated in state after state across the country.

Here is what is at stake in Wisconsin: will we live in a country where we have individual liberty, economic opportunity and a government that lives within its means, or will we live in a country where public sector unions buy our elected officials with our own tax money and government spending bankrupts our children and grandchildren? We can’t afford to lose this one in WI, and we took a giant step forward this weekend.

From the office of Congressman Peter Roskam (R, Ill. 6th District)…

Over the weekend, House Republicans made good on their promise to the American people. The House of Representatives passed a historic $100 billion in spending cuts in the continuing resolution bill to fund the government. These are important first steps to removing barriers to job creation and reducing our sky-high national debt. What’s more, it was done in a historic open process.

The only reason Congress had to address this issue now is because Democrats failed to pass a budget in 2011 – however, Republicans took the challenge and turned it into an opportunity to do something meaningful by helping our economy and beginning to get our fiscal house in order.

No Truth In Left’s Wisconsin Union Support or Its State Budget Surplus Story

-By Warner Todd Huston

First came the disgrace of supposedly intelligent teachers in Wisconsin sporting hundreds of signs calling Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker “Hitler” and now comes the entire liberal blogosphere and it’s echo chamber in the left-media establishment claiming that Gov. Walker has “ginned up” a budget shortfall when he actually has a budget surplus. One wonders when the childish hyperbole and lies will ever stop for the left?

Lefty TV yakker Rachel Maddow, ever hooked into the most goofy left-wing talking point du jour and always ready to dutifully regurgitate same, recently made a big point about Walker’s mythic surplus, sneeringly saying that, “Wisconsin is fine… I am not kidding.” On her Feb 17 show, Maddow breathlessly informed us that Walker is just using the claim of a budget problem in a cynical attempt to destroy unions. Because, well, unions are so innocent, right? I mean they are just gently joshing with all those Hitler references, you know?

PBS happily posted the following Twitter message:

Wisc. Union Thug: ‘First They Take Away Unions, Then They Take Away The Jews…’??? Unions Want Legalized Theft, Plain and Simple

So They Called Him Hitler, So What? Grow Up, The Both of You!

-By Warner Todd Huston

You know, I am about sick to death of this childish back and forth between the unhinged left and the oh-so-outraged right on the name calling issue, especially where it concerns the use of the name of humanity’s most evil villain, Hitler. Yeah, they said (put latest politician here) is Hitler. But so what? Let’s stop the foolish waste of time focusing outrageously, outrageous, outrage over the name calling because not only is it human nature to name call, but it is an age-old American political pastime. A little of it is even cathartic. On the other hand if you happen to be the one using Hitler all the time, stop it, you dipwad. Quit the name calling, you creep. Yes, do read on my morons and let’s hash this out, shall we?

It is a simple, historical fact that Americans have been using the most vile names they could think of with which to label their political opponent. No, we haven’t been calling each other Hitler since the founding and only a gutwrenchingly stupid level of moron would think that. Yet I know that at least a percentage of you reading this were thinking just that, intending to use it to show I am an idiot myself. The fact is that each era has had it’s own version of the worst person in the world award, to be sure, and each era has had no less than one slobberingly absurd Olbermannesque person doing the awarding.

In the early founding those that were targeted for attack were called monarchists. That may seem mild now, but it was a particularly un-American name then since we had just split from a monarchy through a difficult 7-year war. If it were religion that was the target subject, the worst that an American could be called in the early days was a “Papist” as Catholicism was considered an evil not much better than a monarchist. Remember, both monarchy and Catholicism were mass murderers at that time. Later if a southerner was called a Yankee, why them was fightin’ words… literally as it turned out. Then there are the hardy, low and vile racial epithets we are all so familiar with. God forbid anyone was called an Irishman after the 1820s and we all know about our long, sad history with the black man in America.

The point I am making is that this “Hitler” thing is nothing new. You can pick any era in American history, any era, and you’ll find movements using the worst rhetoric with which to depict their opponents in order to put them in the worst light possible. There’s truly nothing new under the sun. Only the names have been changed to diminish the truth!

Getting Rich Off the Taxpayers: School Administrators Double Dipping Pensions

-By Warner Todd Huston

It must be nice to work for the government. Sadly it’s the most lucrative way to make a living in American history. To “win life’s lottery” all you have to do is get a job with the government — whether the federal or state government — at practically any level and voila, welcome to easy street. Here we have yet another case of the milking of the taxpayer by our “public servants,” this time it’s school superintendents that jump from state to state in order to double or triple their pension takings.

The Chicago Trib revealed the newest way for “public servants” to rip off the public by reporting that it has become common practice for school superintendents to “retire” from a school district in one state only to migrate to another state and take the same job in order to earn another lucrative pension. Some of these guys are making upwards to $500,000 a year off the backs of the taxpayers.

When questions over their greed are put to them these “public servants” demur from being characterized as fatcat, double dippers. They say that they are acting entirely within the law. They claim that there isn’t a single thing wrong with what they are doing. Well, maybe legally. Morally is another question.

The Battle of Madison is only the Beginning

No one can say Wisconsin Senate Democrats aren’t willing to go the distance for their financiers. They went all the way to Rockford seeing as Illinois is a sanctuary state for public sector union shills.

What choice did they have? Keynesian Philosophical Assumptions

-By Thomas E. Brewton

Keynesian macroeconomics is inconceivable without Darwinian evolution and secular socialism.

Keynesian macroeconomics is, at heart, a rationalization for collectivized state planning . Its progenitor was the 18th century quest to discover social science laws of behavior paralleling Newton’s mathematics and laws of motion that explained movements of the planets and of the earth around the sun. By the early 1800s French socialist intellectuals were confident that they had identified sociological laws that would enable them to create a secular paradise here on earth. A hundred years later, economist John Maynard Keynes propounded his ideas in the same tradition.

Along with Darwinism and socialism, Keynesianism sees humans as subject to manipulation by material factors such as government regulation. All three discount free will and what Austrian economists view as the basic fact in economic activity: purposeful, individual human action.
