Democratic Efforts to Criminalize Blogs — Why Does Republican Mark Kirk Approve?

-By Warner Todd Huston

I hope I have this story all wrong, I really do. But it seems that Representative Mark Kirk has signed onto an effort that could criminalize the free political speech of bloggers or anyone else that uses the Internet to communicate. Kirk, a Republican who has been making noises about running for governor of Illinois, has his name attached as a sponsor to the Megan Meier Cyberbullying Prevention Act (HR 1966 IH), a bill in the House proposed by Rep. Linda T. Sanchez (D, CA), that would make it a federal felony to use the Internet to cause “emotional distress” through “severe, repeated, and hostile” speech.

Why is Representative Kirk signing onto a bill constructed with such overbroad language that it could criminalize bloggers?

Perhaps he doesn’t realize he’s doing so? The bill is supposed to stop “cyberbullying” and does not seem to be intentionally aimed at political blogs. The title refers to Megan Meier, the 13-year-old Missouri girl that committed suicide in 2006 over scurrilous messages that she found about herself posted on the Internet by Lori Drew, the mother of one of her classmates.

Hatin’ On the GOP, The National Council for a New America and YOU

-By Warner Todd Huston

Listen up conservatives, time to soften that spine just a tiny bit.

Yeah. I’m as mad at the GOP as you are — then again I have been for a long time, not just lately. So, in the hope that something good could come of our losses, I listened in on Eric Cantor’s conference call launching the National Council for a New America (NCNA) project and you all saw my immediate report. I patiently listened to Representative Eric Cantor and Senator John McCain and heard the vague overview, I took note of the names that were attached to the project, and I realized the import of the five basic issues that they wanted to address. And I just knew what the first reaction to the idea would be. Certainly, I was not disappointed.

One commenter on my piece reflected what seems to be the most common reaction: “If John McCain is in, I’m out.” The same sentiment was expressed about Romney, but to a lesser degree. And I’ve heard this dozens of times over the few days since my report. That and much more, and scarce little of it has been complimentary.

As I said, I feel your pain.

Hillary Clinton, Racist Fellow-Traveler

-By Thomas E. Brewton

Secretary of State Clinton’s praise of Margaret Sanger was an endorsement for the doctrine that Hitler used to justify the Holocaust.

One of the most horrendous doctrines to emerge from Charles Darwin’s evolutionary hypothesis was the eugenics movement, instituted by his cousin, Sir Francis Galton. Today’s birth control and abortion, according to apologists for abortion, are merely eugenics updated.

Eugenicists in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, denying God as the creator and designer of the universe, asserted that evolution of species was, according to the Darwinian hypothesis, without design. Unstructured evolution among humans, however, could result in mongrelization of the human race, they said. Eugenics thus may be described as Darwinian evolution in a hurry.

In Just 100 Days

-By Nancy Salvato

January 20, 2009, Barack Hussein Obama became the 44th president of the United States. Our most recently elected president has been presiding in what is commonly referred to as the “honeymoon period”, the beginning of a new president’s term in which the chief executive enjoys generally positive relations with the press and Congress. During this first hundred days, or “honeymoon” a new president uses good will to his advantage, trying to push through an executive agenda while generally being forgiven for what could be considered novice mistakes. April 30th marks the end of President Obama’s first 100 days in office. What has been accomplished in since his inauguration?

North Korea

A 2008 report published by the Strategic Studies Institute of the U.S. Army War College states that, “North Korea has also established itself as the Third World’s greatest supplier of missiles, missile components, and related technologies.” North Korea is one of the principal providers of missiles to Iran, Pakistan, Syria, Egypt, Libya, and Yemen.

Why the Law is Foreign to Ginsberg

-By Selwyn Duke

There is an old saying, “A man who is capable of deceiving only others is not nearly as dangerous as a man who is capable of deceiving himself.” Truer words were never spoken. When a person lies, he is deceiving others about reality, but at least knows he is engaging in deception. But when someone rationalizes – which is when you lie to yourself – he is truly lost. He then not only bends reality for others as a by-product of bending it for himself, but he can render untruths without having to lie. This is because a lie is when you tell an untruth knowing it’s untrue. It’s much like when the ever-prevaricating George Costanza character on Seinfeld gave his advice for beating a polygraph machine, “just remember . . . it’s not a lie if you believe it.”

I think of this when I hear Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader-Ginsberg tout the use of foreign law by American judges sworn to uphold the Constitution – that would be our constitution. Speaking about this recently at Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law, she said,

Today’s History Lesson: Lincoln’s Disagreement with Obamaism

-By Warner Todd Huston

Barack Obama’s new way socialism is really just as no way as it’s always been. But, regardless of the central American spirit that Obamaism attempts to defeat, it is proclaimed that he is only interested in fixing America. So, because he is only here to help, Obama is deemed a savior by his acolytes.

Another of Obama’s false fronts is his claim to be “just like” Abraham Lincoln, a facade he wears with relish. The claim is, after all, a perfect cover for his essentially anti-American agenda. What could be more American than the fulfillment of Lincoln’s efforts to free the slaves but a black man being elected to the presidency? The mere fact of his election seems to affirm the better angels of our nature.

But, here I’d like to report a quote that tends to show that Lincoln would not have approved of a president Barack Obama. Not because Obama is a black man, but because he is a socialist.

Homeland Security’s Unsecure Secretary

-By John Armor

Today comes news that the Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, is replacing Roger Mackin with Phillip Mudd. Who? What? So?

Roger Mackin was the undersecretary for intelligence and analysis. He was responsible for the memo issued just before the 750+ Tea Parties attended by 1 million+ Americans. You know that memo, which said people who oppose abortion, attend church, and own legal guns are potential terrorists. And don’t forget that it also said veterans returning from Iraq or Afghanistan are risky, too.

Before talking about that appalling memo, let’s back up a minute. What is the purpose of the Homeland Security Department? It is to protect Americans in their homes, businesses, schools and shopping malls from being slaughtered by (mostly) Islamofascists who have announced their intentions to keep killing Americans, as they did on 9/11.

An Intolerance for Southern Culture

-By Warner Todd Huston

In July of 2008 a national hotel chain manager had a man arrested for displaying a Confederate flag in his hotel room window in Concord, North Carolina. It happened that Concord’s Wingate Inn had booked guests that had come to participate in the annual convention for an organization known as the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV), a group that celebrates family ties to that Confederate service of 145 years ago. To be sure the hotel manager knew full well that every guest would be displaying Confederate flags everywhere they went. On shirts, on book bags, on posters, on their cars these dozens of guests had Confederate flags on display. Little flags, medium sized flags, and big flags filled the hotel.

Yet hotel management called the cops on this one guy.

So, what happened? Why did this hotel manager imagine he had the right to force just this one guy, Basil D. Childress of Kentucky, to pull down his flag while ignoring all the others? Why were the police idiotic enough to actually arrest the non-violent and perfectly compliant hotel guest instead of telling the hotel manager that he was acting foolishly?

A Week for the Earth; A Day for the Constitution

-By Frank Salvato

Each morning, as I drive my wife to the train, we listen to our local news talk radio station, WIND AM560 in Chicago. Their morning team, John and Cisco, offer a solid discussion on most issues presented, much more balanced and cerebral than the other talkers in Chicago. On this day, and, in fact, for most of the week, they have been addressing “Earth Week.” Today, as we made our way to the train, Cisco said something that struck a chord with both of us. To paraphrase, he said that he was a bit annoyed that Earth Day had morphed into Earth Week. To which my wife, Nancy, said, “You know, they have a week for the Erath but just one day for the Constitution.”

Nancy’s statement is true, not only for Earth Week but for a multitude of celebratory causes and events. We have Arthritis Week, Eating Disorders Week, Contraceptive Week, Celebrate Your Name Week and Let’s Talk About Sex Week. We even have entire months that are dedicated to causes and ideologies. There is National Prune Breakfast Month, Black History Month, Boost-Your-Self-Esteem Month, National Social Workers Month, National Salsa Month, Gay Pride Month, Lasagna Awareness Month, National Hispanic Heritage Month, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender History Month, Wear Brown Shoes Month and National Toilet Tank Repair Month.

But when it comes to the study and appreciation of the document that allows us all to celebrate and expand our awareness of these “important” issues we halfheartedly designate one day in September. US Constitution Day is September 17th.

Americans who reject Marxist socialism are castigated as ‘right-wing extremists’

-By Marie Jon

It could not be nearer to what you suspect. Under his new regime, President Barack Obama’s Department of Homeland Security sent an intimidating message to law enforcement agencies nationwide calculated to silence any American who does not agree with the president’s social notions and political agenda.

It is obvious that Rev. Jeremiah Wright is the driving force behind Obama’s paranoia. What the future president took away from Rev. Wright’s sermons contributes to Obama’s outlook and resultant policies, both at home and abroad. We have become a weakened country. Our enemies see a president who is ready to cozy up to any unscrupulous dictator who wants to inflict harm against our country, while Obama calls it a meaningful dialogue.

A Jackboot at Home, an Olive Branch Abroad

-By Thomas E. Brewton

President Obama seems intent upon cramming stifling socialist programs down our throats domestically, while he relies upon pretty-word diplomacy with foreign nations that have vowed to destroy us.

Reportedly the President’s chief of staff Rahm Emanuel stated that an economic crisis is too good an opportunity to be wasted on economics, when it can be used, as Franklin Roosevelt did in the Depression, to revolutionize the nation’s social and political structure, in effect to amend the Constitution without the bother of submitting amendments in accord with the Constitution’s Article V.

This connotes a domestic jackboot approach evident in many recent Federal actions and policy initiatives. For example:

Why Eggheads Are Sometimes Bad for America

-By Warner Todd Huston

I will admit it. I am a subscriber to the Claremont Review of Books. Whatever you make of that, don’t imagine that I am one of those pointy-headed, University types that sit about in tweed jackets with leather elbow patches, drawing on a pipe, and pontificating about the Greek Classics. On the other hand, I ain’t no anti-intellectual neither. Just consider me one of those fellows that knows just enough to be dangerous.

In any case, one thing that always strikes me about The CRB is that I always find at least one article that proves to me that while eggheads might make for wonderful support for policy, that they may be ideal for an intellectual underpinning of ideas, they would be horrible implementers of it should they be the ones in charge– yes even those ostensibly on our own side of the issues. As it happens, the Winter issue of the CRB did not disappoint me in this area.

Not The Change They Were Expecting

-By Ann “Babe” Huggett

The International Monetary Fund’s, World Economic Outlook, report may be squealing about how the Globalist economy contracting by a measly 1.3% makes it the worst recession since World War II but they haven’t seen anything yet. Governments can do all the economic stimulus packages they want but you can not force people to buy when they don’t want to. All those chickens from outsourcing of jobs to cheaper workers in emerging nations and insourcing of H1-b and L-1 workers, not to mention illegals, to flood the labor pool with cheaper labor is coming home to roost. Big corporations in collusion with big governments thought that they could fascistically enrich themselves through the socialistic manipulation of Market Forces but they forgot that the Market is ruled by the Law of Supply and Demand. Demand has dropped off because the very people, who were driving the economic engine of success, have become impoverished. They were stripped of their jobs and work because corporations did not want to pay prevailing First World wages or benefits to First World workers.

These same First World workers, who were once congratulated as the best and most productive workers in the world, have been told to, “Go out and reinvent yourselves.” for years by either starting their own businesses or switching careers. Striking out on your own when your schooling system has trained you to be nothing but a cog in the machine? Switching careers when one is over 50? Starting a business when federal, state and local governments do everything they can to make life difficult with red tape? The effects of this callous employment policy are cumulative; ruination and starvation don’t adhere to party lines, deadlines or properly filled out forms.

The Left Is Making a Mistake in Ridiculing the Tea Parties

-By Frank Salvato

The political Left in the United States is making a grave mistake in diminishing and dismissing the anger of the American people. Where it may be common place for liberals, Leftists, neo-Marxists and Progressive-Leftists to take to the streets over anything and everything, including a change of wind direction, it is entirely a different story with conservatives and Republicans. Conservatives and Republicans don’t march in the streets for anything. The fact that they have now taken to the streets in protest of massive government spending and government’s encroachment into our liberties speaks volumes to those who would listen.

“Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!”

An amazing thing happened on the way to America’s socialistic demise…a revolution has fomented. Born of a righteous anger centered on wasteful and special interest government spending, lack of honest representation in government, a move toward transforming the United States Constitutional Republic into a Socialist Democracy, excessive taxation and many more constitutionally based grievances, conservatives, traditionalists and Republicans, as well as centrists, independents and Democrats, took to the streets of just about every congressional district to protest a behemoth runaway government run by an elitist and opportunistic political class. From Chicago to New York, St. Louis to San Francisco, St. Paul to Austin and Miami to Portland, hard-working, taxpaying Americans, who aren’t too often moved to taking to the streets in protest, took to the streets to redress their government.

I know, imagine that… as lefty a group as the SPJ actually agreeing with conservatives that the Fairness Doctrine is an abomination of our Constitutional right to free political speech! Tea Bags and A Gray Wig in Tennessee

-By John Armor

As regular readers know, I very seldom rely on other people’s reporting. Most reporters are lazy, or biased, or both, so you cannot trust what you read or watch from them. There are shining exceptions, and one of those is Michelle Malkin. At the end of this column I’ll cite two of her columns that cover much necessary background on the Tea Parties around the nation on 15 April.

In the meantime, let’s talk about white stockings, a gray wig, and a trip to Tennessee.

Last week I was asked to take part in the program of the Knoxville Tea Party this Wednesday. The invitation was not to me, technically. It was to my friend Ben Franklin. Here’s how I was dressed when I arrived in Knoxville:

A Federal Dept. Advocating for a Political Cause?

-By Warner Todd Huston

HHS pushes “Health Reform This Year”

Where is the Obama administration’s sense of propriety? Apparently it’s wrapped up in victory-at-any-cost mode if the website for the federal government’s Health and Human Services is concerned. For, if you go to the HHS.gov website, you’ll see a banner that advertises for a political issue, instead of a legitimate government “service.”

There you’ll see a banner/button pushing the political cause of nationalized health care. Worse, clicking on that button takes you to a faux petition style email page where you can “state your support” to the president for his “commitment to health care reform.” This is basically the president giving the public a fake place to tell him to support his own cause. There is also a link to healthreform.gov which is little else but an Obama issue advocacy campaign website and not really a legitimate government site at all.

Chgo Sun-Times Columnist: Tea Party Goers Hate Our Soldiers?

-By Warner Todd Huston

In an outrageous calumny, Chicago Sun-Times columnist Neil Steinberg has decided that the nearly one million Americans that attended the tax day tea party protests all across the country must not care about our military veterans. Considering a large number of these very same protesters were military vets, I’d bet that Steinberg’s blinkered figuring would come as quite a surprise to them.

In his April 17 column Steinberg insists that tax protesters are in reality “speaking out against our military and our vets.” Ridiculously, he also tries to make it seem like our founding fathers would be unhappy with the tea party movement because he thinks the founders were big government folks. The backflips, illogic, and the obviously illiterate historical analysis by which he arrives at these absurd notions is an act of liberal pretzel logic that is a wonder to behold.

Deny, Dismiss, Delegitimatize

-By Dan Scott

The response of the current leadership of this country is apparently to deny, dismiss or delegitimatize those who protested at the Tea Parties against rampant federal spending. Nancy Pelosi’s response – she called it Astroturf – the rich people were protesting, not the average person as in grass roots. If we take this comment at it’s face value, Pelosi believes those who were protesting were either rich themselves or were dupes of the rich. Let’s examine those options: If you participated in the Tea Party protest as I did, I am supposedly rich. If I’m considered rich and Pelosi wants to jack up the taxes on the rich, then all of you in the lower middle class are going to get a tax increase. The other choice is if I’m not considered rich, I’m a dupe of the rich. Are you, the average American, a stupid gullible imbecile who needs Nancy’s benevolent guidance? Is this arrogant elitist attitude toward people expressing their opinions coming from an elected representative of the People or a member of the elite ruling class? Her other comment – we handed out tax credits, in other words you been bribed with a $400 tax credit, you have nothing to say! See her response for yourself. Do you feel the love?

The White House says the president is unaware of the tea parties and
will hold his own event today,” ABC’s Dan Harris said on “Good Morning
America” on April 15.

Mr. Harris of Good Morning America essentially admitted President Obama does not have the pulse of the country, i.e. he is out of touch with reality! So either Obama is clueless to what is going on around him due to his very narrow insular view of the world as a liberal demagogue or Mr. Harris is making a childish unsubstantiated claim in a clownish attempt to dismiss the obvious (shades of Baghdad Bob). Which is it? President Obama has given more public comment to his new dog than regarding the people protesting his shared policies with Nancy Pelosi. Which is more important, his dog or concerned people? Apparently, the dog is more important than the consent of a significant portion of the country. For him to even deny the obvious speaks volumes as to his divisive policies. He is a Divider instead of the so-called new politics of being a Uniter he claimed he would be during his campaign, apparently his promise was empty rhetoric. Is he President of the United States or is a leader of only those who believe his ideology? We can see that he is not a Uniter since a leader of all the people compromises to achieve the greatest consensus. The leader who chooses consensus represents the interest of the majority versus a dictator who represents his own interest. The greatest consensus usually means those at the two extremes of any issue are dissatisfied. In fact, our Constitution is set up to force this idea of consensus but at the same time hold at bay the tyranny of the majority, Walter Williams did a nice piece on this. This essential means of leadership in a republic separates the President from a dictator; a dictator ignores the consensus and chooses his own way. You be the judge of Obama’s choices.

Contact Politics Is Not For Pussycats

-By Ann “Babe” Huggett

It’s all too easy to get swamped with information overload anymore what with everyone and everything on political fast forward these days. In the last week alone we’ve been treated to pirates, puppies, TEA parties, secession rumors from Texas and more than half of America’s citizens being labeled as potential domestic terrorists because they don’t completely support all of the leftwing agenda of President Obama and his radical cohorts.

Isn’t that last item lovely? Haven’t you always wanted to be considered “dangerous” somehow? My bet is that as a good, patriotic American, you aren’t exactly enjoying the frisson of being labeled an enemy of the Obamunist State. Barack Obama: Chairman of the Bored

-By Selwyn Duke

Perhaps I was wrong about Barack Obama. Maybe his words can bring peace to the world. That is to say, if he keeps talking, he just may put all the world’s peoples to sleep and keep them that way.

This became evident during Obama’s recent European trip. Despite the fact that Obama shares the Old World’s socialist vision – and contrary to the image lent by the media’s inundation of us with footage of fawning European crowds –some of that continent’s denizens find him more sandman than savior.

7 Senate Republicans Reply to DHS ‘Rightwing Extremists’ Scaremongering

-By Warner Todd Huston

Seven Republican Senators have this week signed a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano asking for the proof upon which the Department of Homeland Security based its outrageously accusatory report on so-called rightwing extremism in the Untied States.

The seven scold the DHS and the Obama administration for its over-broad generalizations that seem to assume that nearly half the electorate is prone to becoming terrorists merely because they hold right of center political views.

The letter alludes to the central point in this whole episode: that the U.S. government has now determined that the traditional American beliefs of small government and adherence to the Constitution is now suddenly a determinant in forming citizens into homegrown terrorist groups. After 200 years, all of a sudden believing in run-of-the-mill American beliefs makes you a terrorist! These seven Senators want to know why.

President Obama’s trip to Europe last week offered several more opportunities to observe his speeches. I listened to several of them, to see if they had changed at all. They had not.

On my desktop I have stored two Doonesbury cartoons from decades years ago. Back then, when many of Doonesbury’s characters were still the same ones we both knew in college, I admired his work. Obama’s European Tour: Arrogance, Ineptness & an Abdication of Leadership

-By Frank Salvato

Many observations have been made regarding President Barack Obama’s recent trip overseas. Most of them have been quite severe and rightly so. His many “appearances” bore a striking resemblance to his nauseatingly long campaign for the presidency; a campaign devoid of specifics and substance and rich with swagger and rhetoric. Note to President Obama: The campaign is over and – as you like to throw in the faces of the Republican opposition in Washington DC – you won. It’s time to lead.

Perhaps the most disappointing element of President Obama’s overseas failure was the fact that his handlers kept redefining what a successful trip would be. Initially, touting his “superior powers of oratory persuasion,” his handlers claimed that Mr. Obama would acquire more military assistance for the efforts in Afghanistan and now Pakistan, persuade a now fiscally conservative EU to inject more funds into stimulating the world economy and engage world leaders in a way that would reclaim the United States’ esteem in the world. Upon his return to the United States, Mr. Obama’s spin doctors claimed a successful trip because, “…well, gee, everyone liked the president and, well, that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?…being liked?”

NYTimes Anti-Gun Agenda: Using Discredited Anti-Gun Statistic on Mexican Gun Purchases in U.S.

-By Warner Todd Huston

Once again The New York Times unleashes a not-so-hidden agenda on its reading public. Here the Times is regurgitating the debunked claim that “90%” of Mexico’s recovered guns used in crime south of the border are from U.S. gun dealers. There is a lot of misdirection in this piece against gun dealers and gun shows, as well. Contradictory claims are made with no proof offered but the say so of The Times.

The Times begins its tall tale by talking about Mexican gun smugglers that find it easy to buy “military style” weapons at U.S. gun shops to be smuggled into Mexico. The story talks of these “lightly regulated” gun dealers and blames them for the smuggling apparently because no records are kept or buyer’s identities ascertained. And near the top half of the story is the debunked “90%” claim.

ABC: Scaring Parents About Kid’s Friend’s Gun Owning Parents

-By Warner Todd Huston

Wait a minute Mom. Don’t let little Johnny go to his buddy Tommy’s house. Tommy’s parents are psychos that own — **gasp** — GUNS! This is the message that ABC is telling parents in an April 10 piece headlined, “Before Arranging Playdates, Ask About Guns.”

Here ABC attempts to make every gun owner seem like a lunatic just ready to blow and encourages parents to be deathly afraid of anyone that owns a gun. It encourages parents to pry into the lives of family members of their kid’s friends and bases it all on the lies passed off as scary gun violence statistics.

Naturally, ABC’s back up for this anti-gun screed is by a supposedly “non partisan” anti-gun group called PAX USA, an organization with board and advisory councils filled with left-wing Hollywood actors such as Richard Belzer, Tim Robbins, and Rob Reiner among many others.
