Sen. Orrin Hatch: Obama Fiscal Proposal ‘Classic Bait and Switch’

Senator Orrin Hatch (R, Utah) delivered the GOP weekly address and it was a damn good one.

He pulled no punches and laid it out straight that Obama lied when he ran for re-election and perpetrated a “classic bait and switch” maneuver.

Transcript:

“Hi. I’m Senator Orrin Hatch from the great state of Utah.

“The holiday season is upon us: a time when families come together to celebrate and reflect on another year gone by—and another one set to begin.

“But this holiday season is different: as the clock ticks down towards the New Year, nearly every single American is facing the real prospect of what’s called the Fiscal Cliff.

“If we don’t act by the end of the year, 28 million more families and individuals will be forced to pay the Alternative Minimum Tax, 21 times as many farmers and ranchers will be hit with the death tax, and the average middle-class family would see their taxes go up by at least $2,000.

“Economic leaders have told us that if we don’t act, our nation will fall into another painful recession—pushing unemployment back up over 9 percent, threatening our children’s ability to get a good paying job, and putting seniors’ retirements at risk.

“The President has said he wants a so-called balanced approach to solve this crisis. But what he proposed this week was a classic bait and switch on the American people—a tax increase double the size of what he campaigned on, billions of dollars in new stimulus spending and an unlimited, unchecked authority to borrow from the Chinese. Maybe I missed it but I don’t recall him asking for any of that during the presidential campaign. These ideas are so radical that they have already been rejected on a bipartisan basis by Congress.

“Fresh off his reelection, the President has an obligation to first steer us away from the fiscal cliff, and second, to tackle our $16-plus trillion debt, that is driven by our runaway entitlement programs, so our country doesn’t reach this dangerous crossroads ever again.

“But we’ve seen an utter lack of leadership from President Obama, and his allies on the left have shown little—very little—to no willingness to tackle real, structural entitlement reform. There is no manner of tax hike that can save Medicare or Medicaid—these programs can only be fixed with real reforms that go to the heart of how they work.

The Hill: It’s The Spending, Stupid

-By Warner Todd Huston

In a very business-like manner The Hill published a report that ought to warm the hearts of all fiscally responsible Republicans and, perhaps, give hope that GOP Speaker John Boehner will hold to his pledges on taxes during theses fiscal cliff talks with the White House.

On November 28 The Hill reported that Speaker Boehner (R, OH) quickly shot down the tax balloon floated by Representative Tom Cole (R, OK) who recently proposed that the House go with Obama’s idea of passing an immediate extension of the current tax rates for the middle class.

As The Hill further notes, Boehner and the rest of the GOP House leadership are sticking with their own pledge to make sure any fiscal cliff solutions are tied to spending cuts.

Obama’s Economy Makes Criminals Out of Pennsylvania Family, Lose Their Children

-By Warner Todd Huston

Obama’s unemployment rate is the worst continuously down trend seen since The Great Depression. Millions of Americans have lost their jobs and, subsequently, lost their homes to foreclosure. One Pennsylvania family, faced with Obama’s destruction, tried to move to another state where they hoped to see a better life but instead of finding opportunity they had their children stolen from them by the state and were turned into criminals.

After losing their home to foreclosure, the Detjen family rented a moving truck, loaded their meager possessions on board, and decided to try and head west to greener pastures. Of course, the problem was that the tiny cab of the truck could not hold the couple and their seven children.

So, the Detjen’s bundled up five of their children in winter clothing and sat them in the cargo hold of the moving truck and then set out for California.

Some nosey citizen, however, called the jackboots on the Detjens because, as the law stands, having riders in the cargo hold of a moving truck is illegal.

Naturally, the cops swooped down on the Detjens as they plied one of Indiana’s highways on their way west. The couple’s belongings were impounded, the truck jacked to the police impound lot, and, naturally, their children were taken away from them by those oh-so-concerned drones from the department of Children and Family Services.

In that ages old American way, this beset upon family was trying desperately to start life anew by bundling up the family and moving to where they think might be greener pastures. But in this age of Obama, this family was instead turned them into criminals.

Assoc. Press Paints Murders in Benghazi as Merely a ‘PR Disaster’

-By Warner Todd Huston

In an outrageous attempt to defuse for President Obama the murderous disaster that is his security failures in Benghazi on September 11, the Associated Press deemed the whole debacle merely a “PR disaster” and speculated it could all just be forgotten if Susan Rice were to be successfully nominated as our next Secretary of State.

The White House could finally have its chance to close the books on its Benghazi public relations disaster, as key Republicans signal they might not stand in the way of U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice to become the next secretary of state.

With such dismissive rhetoric, the AP seems to discount the death of Chris Stevens, our U.S. Ambassador to Libya, and several of his security staff all of whom were murdered by radical Islamists. Still, even the logic here makes no sense.

Is the AP saying that the ambassador’s brutal murder can just be forgotten if Susan Rice becomes Sec. of State? How does that even make sense? This claim makes as much sense as saying that Watergate should have been forgotten because Richard Nixon was successfully re-elected after perpetrating the break-in.

The AP next goes on to swallow whole the shaky explanation of why Susan Rice lied about what happened at Benghazi.

Gennifer Flowers: Bill Clinton Tried to Meet With Me in 2005

-By Warner Todd Huston

In a recent interview, former Clinton paramour Gennifer Flowers dished some more on her troubled relationship with impeached President, Bill Clinton. She even claimed that he tried to get together with her even as late as 2005.

In the interview aired on ABC’s WGNO in New Orleans, Flowers also insisted that it was her revelations about Clinton that made him into a “household name” during his 1992 campaign for the White House.

But it was her claim that the former President tried to arrange a meeting with her as recently as 2005 that really raises eyebrows.

“I picked up the phone and it was him,” Flowers, now 62, said on ABC affiliate WGNO in New Orleans, while sipping wine with TV host Susan Roesgen. “And he wanted to come by my house and talk to me. … I was taken aback. That was the last thing I expected.”

“I said, ‘No you can’t come over here,’” she continued. “He said, ‘I’ll put on a hoodie and I’ll jog up there.’ … And I said, ‘No, I want you to leave me alone.’ And that was that.”

Chris Matthews: Conservatives Are Like Hitler, White Men Want End to Minority Vote

-By Warner Todd Huston

During his November 26 MSNBC circus, Chris Matthews childishly linked conservatives unhappy with the results of the past election to Hitler and the Nazis. Not only that but he claimed that white men and Mitt Romney were really working to return our electoral system to the day when only white men that owned land were allowed to vote.

Before Matthews got to his illogical and disconnected Hitler comparison, Matthews first made the silly claim that one of Mitt Romney’s goals was to return the nation to a day when only landed, white men could vote.

Matthews began discounting the right’s reverence for our founding fathers then went on to disgorge his foolish conspiracy theory.

But the notion that the free men of this country are white men of property and that is really what Romney ran on, white men of property. He didn’t say it intellectually. I don’t think he put it in any words. But look who he was rallying to as, you know, as, as, Howie just pointed out, that seemed to be the rallying cry. “Men of property, join together. Defend the wagon train against the onslaught of the others!” That seemed to be what they were doing in this campaign.

Ah, so Romney didn’t say this at all and neither did anyone else, but Chrissy knows what they really mean, eh?

AP Touts ‘Non-Partisan’ Study Saying Obamacare Great for States

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Associated Press has done it again, pushing on readers a “study” by purported “nonpartisan” organizations that aren’t nonpartisan at all. This one claiming that Obamacare is a “good deal for states.”

The AP notes that this “report” by the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation and the Urban Institute says that Obamacare is good for the states because it picks up the largest amount of healthcare costs through its Medicaid expansion.

Expanding Medicaid to cover about 20 million more low-income people will cost over $1 trillion nationally from 2013 to 2022, said the joint report from the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Urban Institute. But the analysis found that states will pay just $76 billion of that, a combined share of roughly 7 percent. The feds will pay the other $952 billion.

But what of these two groups? Are they really “nonpartisan”?

Beware The Zombie Congress

Congress has reconvened for a “lame-duck” session, in which the walking dead (members who won’t return next year) have a post-mortem chance to leave their mark on the nation’s policy — a budget that never got passed, and an agreement on how to avoid the fiscal cliff and Taxmageddon, and several treaties awaiting ratification by the Senate.

College Professors Lose Hours Because of Obamacare

-By Warner Todd Huston

One of my favorite stories this week is the college professors at Pennsylvania’s Community College of Allegheny who’ve had their hours cut because of the costly requirements of Obamacare.

One of Obamacare’s changes to general business practices is to make people who work 30 hours or more a “full time worker.” For generations that magic number was 40 hours a week. But now that Obamacare is forcing this change to what is considered a full-timer, businesses across the country are forced to change policies and cut the hours of employees to 25 hours per week.

This is what happened at CCAC. Part time professors, teachers, and other staffers will be cut to 25 hours a week so that these part time workers will remain part time workers and will, therefore, be ineligible for healthcare.

Naturally, some folks are mad. They think the evil taskmasters in charge of the school are violating the “spirit” of Obamacare. United Steelworkers representative Jeff Cech, who has been trying to unionize the college staff, is all upset, too.

PolitiFact’s Bias Charted

-By Warner Todd Huston

A new chart has debuted showing the stark bias that purported “fact checker” PolitiFact commits against the right side of the aisle in its attempt to separate truth from fiction in politics. The chart demonstrates how Republicans and conservatives have come in for scolding by PolitiFact far more often and with much greater virulence than have Democrats and liberals.

The chart was assembled by calculating the number of “pants on fire” awards to what PolitiFact claims are lies by our national political figures.

Click to make chart larger

As Chuck Rogers explains,

We assembled this chart by sorting PolitiFact’s complete list of “Pants On Fire” rulings. We filtered out any rulings of chain email or anonymous Facebook posts (although these were virtually all conservative viewpoints), as well as politicians or organizations who had only one “Pants On Fire” ruling (but again, even these were mostly conservatives).

The most impressive result is how PolitiFact treated Mitt Romney. His “pants on fire” awards are more than twice than that of any other politician except Michele Bachmann. And, according to PolitiFact, Bachmann herself is far and away a worse liar than any other pol besides Romney.

In Final Week Romney Coverage Increasingly Negative, MSNBC Had Zero Favorable Romney Stories

-By Warner Todd Huston

According to the latest study of the last week of the media’s coverage of the 2012 presidential election, Romney’s coverage turned increasingly negative. The worst example was that of MSNBC which didn’t have any positive stories about Romney’s campaign, not a single one.

The study conducted by the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism, showed that MSNBC had zero positive stories about Romney while its Obama coverage skewed 51% positive for the President.

Fox News also increased its negative coverage, for Obama in that case, but its coverage was not nearly so negative against Obama as MSNBC’s was against Romney. The study found that Fox News gave only 5 percent of its coverage to positive Obama stories (with 56 percent negative) while the cable network gave Romney 42 percent positive coverage (with 11 percent negative).

With all news coverage tabulated, Romney’s coverage got more negative in the final week with 33 percent of his coverage skewing negative and only 16 percent positive. In contrast, Obama got 29 percent positive coverage with 19 percent negative.

Sandy Gives Elected Officials Sky High Approval Ratings Despite Rocky Performance

-By Warner Todd Huston

Now that Hurricane Sandy is gone and east coasters have had some time to assess the performance of their elected officials it seems as if it’s high marks all around. So says a new Quinnipiac University poll released on November 20.

Apparently the lionization that the media offered to Chris Christie for his crying jags and his bear hugs for President Obama have turned the trick for east coast residents.

The New Jersey Governor in particular came in for praise from residents hit by the super storm. But even New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, and President Obama received high marks for their post Hurricane Sandy efforts.

When asked who did the better job, 36 percent of respondents said that Gov. Chris Christie did the best while 22 percent said Obama did well, and 15 percent said Governor Cuomo was best. Mayor Bloomberg came in at 12 percent on this question.

Thanks Mitt

-By Chuck Busch

I want you to know that I greatly appreciate the effort and sacrifice you made in seeking the presidency. I have been a supporter of you since the 2008 election and always believed you had a lot to offer the people of this country. History took a strange turn in 2008 and it would seem that the country got started down a wrong path that will now take extraordinary efforts to reverse. In the final analysis we have to accept that God is still on the throne and he will use whatever circumstance for His redemptive purposes. If I didn’t believe that, we would all have reason for despair.

You were an excellent candidate and ran a superb campaign. It was encouraging to hear someone articulate sound economic and national policies as well as you did. I believe you and Paul Ryan won the debate season hands down with factual and sensible proposals delivered in a confident and professional manner. As you reflect on the last year’s whirlwind events, please do not second-guess your message of limited government or think that you could have done anything different to affect the outcome. The Republican Party should make no change to its 2012 platform or compromise on social, cultural and economic issues. The contrast between the “paths” of the two parties could have not been made clearer.

NYTimes Rips Israel for Bombing Gaza Media Offices, Ignores 4 Terror Leaders Inside

-By Warner Todd Huston

The New York Times is full of outrage at the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) for its surgical bomb strikes launched against a few buildings in Gaza that held offices and studios of several international media outlets. But in its report the “paper of record” forgot to add one little fact: four highly placed terrorist leaders that were killed that day were also based in those same buildings.

The Grey Lady reported the bombings mostly from the Palestinian point of view, of course, giving Hamas leaders all the space they wanted to excoriate Israel for replying to a constant wave of rockets indiscriminately launched into its territory with surgical strikes aimed at specific terror assets.

In its November 18 article, The Times reported that Salama Marouf of the Hamas media office called the rocket hits “an immoral massacre against the media.”

The production studios hit were used by such international media outlets as Sky News, Fox News, CBS, the Saudi-owned Al Arabiya Channel, and Germany’s ARD TV as well as the Hamas propaganda machine.

New York Times: Celebrating the End of ‘Rush Limbaugh’s Country’

-By Warner Todd Huston

For his final Campaign Stops editorial November 18, New York Times columnist Thomas B, Edsall asked the seminal question left arising from the results of the re-election of Barack Obama: Is Rush Limbaugh’s Country Gone?

Beginning his piece with a quote from Limbaugh’s show where the most listened-to talker in the nation expressed his fear that “we’ve lost the country” to Obama and his followers, Edsall noted that Limbaugh’s worries “echoed a Republican theme” that was voiced before Obama’s re-election.

Barack Obama has unleashed a coalition of Americans “who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it — that that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them” — as Mitt Romney put it in his notorious commentary on the 47 percent.

Edsall goes on to agree with Limbaugh that our country has drifted decidedly in favor of big government, nanny-state ideals and away from freedom and liberty — though he doesn’t say it that way, to be sure.

CNN Mad at Low-Voting Obama County, Not Worried Over No-Voting Romney Counties

-By Warner Todd Huston

CNN was gobsmacked over a county in Texas that saw an extremely low voter turnout for Barack Obama in the late elections. On the other hand the several counties in Ohio and Pennsylvania that had zero votes for Mitt Romney didn’t bother the cable Network at all.

On Friday, November 16, CNN aired an “expose” of sorts about the low Obama votes that occurred in King County Texas and took their cameras south to find out why so few voters there wanted to vote for the President.

Naturally, correspondent Gary Tuchman and the CNN crew wanted to find out if everyone in King County were racist. All Mr. Tuchman’s questions were meant to elicit examples of the King County resident’s backwards attitudes and racism.

CNN was simply outraged that only 3.4 percent of King County’s voters thought well enough of Barack Obama to vote for him on Election Day. It was a travesty.

CBS Praises Obama for Hurricane Sandy Visit, Attacked Bush for Katrina Visit

-By Warner Todd Huston

On November 16, CBS News aired a segment full of praise for President Obama’s visit to Staten Island in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. But this positive spin is in stark contrast to the scolding the network gave President Bush when he visited the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005..

In the report on CBS This Morning, correspondent Elaine Quijano favorably included Obama in her report on Sandy storm damage showing the President shaking hands with big smiles all around, pledging government support for the victims, and hugging and meeting with individual storm survivors. Mr. Obama was shown as a sympathetic figure ready to help — quite despite that the business of setting the area aright has gone on for weeks without as much progress as residents have hoped.

But this favorable treatment for Obama stands in stark contrast to the attacks CBS leveled against President Bush when he went to visit storm ravaged areas after 2005’s Hurricane Katrina.

NYTimes Portrays Muslim Brotherhood Member Morsai as Torn About Supporting Islamists Over Israel

-By Warner Todd Huston

In an unbelievable case of not seeing the forest for the trees, The New York Times portrayed Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi as a leader conflicted over his support for the terrorist organization Muslim Brotherhood — a group of which he was once a member — and his duty as Egypt’s President to observe the truce that his country has had for many years with Israel.

Setting up the premise, The Times begins is piece saying, “The escalating conflict in Gaza has confronted President Mohamed Morsi of Egypt with a wrenching test of his commitments — to his fellow Islamists of the militant group Hamas and to Egypt’s landmark peace agreement with Israel.”

The Times claims that Morsi is a man with “divided loyalties” with both sides appearing to be “testing him.”

It is flatly silly to claim that Morsi is attempting to walk any tightrope in this situation. He is a member of the virulently anti-Jew Muslim Brotherhood and has made no bones about the fact that he still subscribes to all that terror organization’s main tenets.

In other words, you’re not imagining it: This economic recovery has been a big disappointment relative to what the United States has usually experienced after a recession. CBS and Another Obama is Lincoln Story

-By Warner Todd Huston

Sadly, the debut of Director Steven Spielberg’s epic film about our 16th President is being used by many Old Media outlets as propaganda to push the concept that Barack Obama is in the same league or, worse, is somehow just like Abraham Lincoln. On November 15 it was CBS This Morning’s turn to couple one of our most famous presidents to the current resident of the White House.

On the network morning show recently breaking in as the top rated morning program, CBS This Morning hosts Gayle King and Norah O’Donnell kicked off their Lincoln segment attempting to link Abe Lincoln and Obama by gravely wondering if there was a “lesson for Obama, now in his second term, with Lincoln?”

The pair were interviewing liberal historian Doris Kearns-Goodwin, whose book Team of Rivals was used as source material for Spielberg’s new movie.

In response, Kearns-Goodwin made the facile claim that Obama has done the same thing Lincoln did by filling his cabinet with rivals that he’d beaten for the nomination for president. This of course, is nonsense. While Obama did chose former rival Hillary Clinton as his Secretary of State, the rest of his cabinet were not serious Obama rivals. On the other hand, Lincoln appointed nearly all his most powerful rivals to his cabinet — all of whom were leading party powers of their day.

NBC: Obama is ‘Genial’ Republicans Still Meanies

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Old Media has found its narrative for Obama’s first press conference since March and the first since his re-election and that narrative can be boiled down simply to this: Obama helpfully Reaching Out, Republicans still mean as snakes.

After the presser was through, several Old Media outlets — one being Reuters — set the tone with a positive spin for Obama and a negative one for Republicans. NBC also followed this Old Media template.

In the hours after the presser ended, NBC News filed a series of reports that portrayed Obama in a positive light. One report saw NBC White House correspondent Chuck Todd gushing over the President’s appearance.

“It was a loose, confident, and at times aggressive President Obama….He even extended an olive branch and encouraged growing common ground between the two parties….he was genial and even reflective,” Todd said on Wednesday’s Nightly News.

Naturally, Todd found that the only thing that sullied Obama’s wonderful presser was the “negative comments” by a coterie of Republican Senators that held their own press conference that same day announcing their desire to investigate the disastrous Benghazi incident and confirming their resistance to any thought that UN Ambassador Susan Rice might become our next Secretary of State.

The Billion-Dollar Campaign: Obama Breaks All Time High Donations

-By Warner Todd Huston

It seems that predictions have come true that Obama’s 2012 campaign for re-election would be the first “billion dollar campaign” has come true. Team Obama is now reporting that fundraising for the 2012 campaign has exceeded that of 2008 realizing over a billion dollars in campaign donations. Online donations also surpassed levels from Obama’s first run.

According to new calculations reported by TIME, online donations raised about $690 million, up from the $500 million seen in 2008.

Once all sources are tabulated, the campaign expects to exceed that daunting one billon dollar mark.

Reuters Celebrates ‘Feisty’ Obama’s Second-Term Agenda

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Wednesday, November 14, President Obama held his first full-scale press conference and despite continuing to speak in generalities, Reuters was somehow impressed by the supposed revelation of his second-term agenda. The President was “feisty” yet “conciliatory,” Reuters claimed.

Reuters was so gratified that Obama gave a “feisty defense” of U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice that it led its piece with that part of the presser. It was Rice who was one of the loudest, early voices claiming that the attacks in Benghazi that killed four Americans was the result of some unknown Youtube video — a claim solidly proven false soon after the attacks occurred.

During the presser, it was mentioned to the President that several Republican Senators vowed that if Obama offered up Rice as a candidate for Secretary of State in the stead of the departing Hillary Clinton, they would work to oppose the pick. Obama’s defense of Ambassador Rice was so strong one would think she might be a delicate flower that needs a strong man to come to her rescue.

Doris Kearns-Goodwin: We Need to Excuse Affairs to Get the ‘Best People in Public Life’

-By Warner Todd Huston

In response to revelations of the extramarital affair that now former CIA Chief David Petraeus admitted to over the weekend, liberal historian Doris Kearns-Goodwin scoffed at the idea of holding highly placed public figures to account for their personal behavior.

On the Sunday, November 11 episode of NBC’s Meet The Press, Kearns-Goodwin made the point that we are too strict with our public officials and because of that we won’t get any more great presidents like Franklin Roosevelt and… Bill Clinton?

“What would we have done if FDR had not been our leader because he had an affair with Lucy Mercer? Think of the productive years that Clinton could have had if Monica Lewinsky hadn’t derailed them. We’ve got to figure out a way that we give a private sphere for our public leaders. We’re not gonna get the best people in public life if we don’t do that.”

Kearns-Goodwin also longed for the day when Americans paid little mind to the private lives of public figures.

Most Transparent President Ever Finally Has a Press Conference

-By Warner Todd Huston

Today at 1:30 PM, President Obama has deigned to hold an honest-to-goodness, question-taking press conference. I guess the President took to heart the plaintive plea of ABC’s Jake Tapper who asked Obama not to be a stranger as the Prez exited his last presser on August 20.

But that was just a walk on, guest shot, a surprise to the press. Obama’s last scheduled, solo press conference was all the way back on March 6.

Despite claiming that he’d be the most open, transparent president ever, Obama hasn’t been as forth coming with the Old Media establishment as other presidents. In fact, he’s been chided by the media since he first became president for keeping them at arm’s length.

The latest scolding Obama took over his shyness was in early in October when Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank looked up the numbers and noted that in the last four years, President Obama “has worked assiduously to avoid being questioned, maintaining a regal detachment from the media and other sources of dissent and skeptical inquiry.”

Foodstamps Surge to All Time High, Biggest One Month Growth Ever Recorded

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Obama administration has finally released its report on the number of Americans on foodstamps. This report was released nine days past its traditional release date and just coincidentally days after the election. Shockingly, those numbers show that Americans on foodstamps is at an all time high. Worse the report shows the highest one month jump ever.

You may recall that just before the election, the Obama administration announced that Hurricane Sandy was going to delay the release of October’s jobless numbers. Many watchers of politics were suspicious about the possible delay in the release of October’s unemployment figures since the proper release date was to come just before the presidential election. While the unemployment report was ultimately released on schedule and before the election, now we find out about another report, the foostamp report, delayed for nine days after its traditional release date. This report was also supposed to have been released before the election.

This report is devastating, so maybe we now know why it was delayed?

CNN Cries With Obama

-By Warner Todd Huston

CNN was quite taken with the video that Obama’s campaign put out showing the President getting a little weepy after he won his second bid for the White House. The video was “amazing,” even “remarkable” said the CNN hosts who gushed over the President’s tears. But CNN wasn’t quite so taken with GOP House Speaker John Boehner’s tears two years ago.

CNN’s Brianna Keilar was nearly emotional herself over the President’s tears saying, “So, Soledad, a remarkable moment there. And we’re just seeing this now.” CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien then replied, “Wow, ‘No Drama Obama’ gets a little dramatic and emotional.”

The pair went on at some length over the President’s display.

But, as Matt Hadro points out, CNN was not nearly as effusive with its wows when Republican John Boehner got a little teary-eyed after he was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2010.

The Name ‘Republican’ Is Damaged Beyond Repair

-By Warner Todd Huston

Fact: Millions of Republican voters did not come out to unseat Barack Obama.

Explanation: The Republican brand has been damaged beyond repair.

Solution: Is Herman Cain Right? Do we need to replace the GOP with a new party?

The Republican brand has been destroyed beyond repair. This is all something we really can blame on the Bush family in general and George W. Bush in particular. Not only do independents and moderates not trust anyone that has the millstone “Republican” hung around his neck, but even too many Republican voters themselves can no longer bring themselves to vote for members of their own party.

George W. Bush is the biggest culprit for this. His big spending and liberal governing style (No Child Left Behind, drugs for seniors, trillion dollar deficits) told Republican voters that there was no difference between Republicans and Democrats.

Now, substantively, yes there are important differences between the parties. But the perception that Bush left with his odious “compassionate conservatism ” — which was just an excuse for big government liberalism — told Republican voters that the Democrats are the party of big government while Republicans are the party for a tiny bit less big government. This is not enough of a difference to entice a vote.

If the GOP could not get out enough voters to unseat Barack Obama, the most socialist-leaning, most anti-American president in American history, then the GOP brand has been damaged beyond repair.

Papa John’s Pizza to Cut Worker’s Hours Due to Obamacare

-By Warner Todd Huston

John Schnatter, CEO of the Papa John’s pizza chain, has announced that now that President Obama has been re-elected and it is obvious that Obamacare is here to stay, he will likely be forced to cut back worker’s hours because of the cost of the federal government’s take over of our national healthcare.

Provisions of Obamacare state that workers that work 30 hours a week or more will be automatically considered full time and must then be included in their company’s healthcare insurance program. Common practice currently maintains that the eligibility threshold for health insurance is a 40-hour work week, so this will cost businesses exponentially more for workers that work over 30 hours a week. The higher cost associated with this change is forcing many businesses, especially those in the food service industry, to consider limiting workers to less than 30 hours a week.

In essence, implementation of Obamacare will cut the weekly take home pay of millions of low wage workers by forcing companies to cut worker’s hours.

New York Times Says it’s OK to Destroy the Life of a Pro-Family Official

-By Warner Todd Huston

There is an intriguing letter in an advice column in The New York Times from last July. Many are wondering if this anonymous letter refers to the newly revealed extra-marital affair indulged by now former CIA Director and General David Petraeus. But a closer look at the advice the Times gives out proves that the so-called “paper of record” can’t even keep its anti-conservative agenda out of simple advice columns.

The letter from an anonymous reader is tantalizing. It sure sounds like someone describing Petraeus’ ill-advised affair.

My wife is having an affair with a government executive. His role is to manage a project whose progress is seen worldwide as a demonstration of American leadership.
