Mich Dem. Whitmer Shows Unions & Obama More Important Than Her State

-By Warner Todd Huston

Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer, the State’s Senate Democratic Leader, is now pleading for President Obama to trample on Michigan’s state sovereignty and control the state from Washington DC. This is an odd request for someone that thinks she should be Michigan’s next Governor.

During most of American history, state politicians have been keen to safeguard their own power in their state. We even fought a whole civil war in part over the idea of states’ rights, after all. Oh, but not Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer. No, for Whitmer, allowing unions and President Obama to control Michigan is far more important than allowing the people of Michigan and their representatives to control the state.

Whitmer, you see, is trying to get President Obama to withhold federal funds from Michigan merely because Republicans and worker’s rights advocates have succeeded in passing right-to-work-style legislation in the current lame-duck session.

Whitmer is calling the right-to-work law “petty and vindictive politics.” That’s how losers talk, we all know. So, she wants King Obama to take action.

Sun Times Demands Sen. Kirk’s Med Records, Ignores Jesse Jackson. Jr.’s

-By Warner Todd Huston

Withchunt: The Chicago Sun-Times once again revels in its partisanship by demanding the public release of the medical records of Senator Mark Kirk while ignoring the records of Representative Jesse Jackson, Jr.

For the Times, Phil Kadner is all upset that the U.S. government should be expected to pay for the medical bills and recovery costs for Illinois Senator Mark Kirk, a Republican who suffered a stroke last year and has since been making a steady recovery.

But the same left-wing Old Media hack isn’t calling for the records of Democrat Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr., who claims he has “bi-polar” disorder and was out of the public eye for most of the year before finally resigning in disgrace just ahead of a federal investigation into his theft of campaign funds.

Big Ohio Newspaper Cutting One-Third of Newsroom

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Cleveland Plain Dealer is one of Ohio’s biggest papers but neither size nor influence is likely to save the jobs of one third of the paper’s newsroom employees who are preparing for big cuts to hit as the new year begins.

Workers at the paper found out on Wednesday that 58 employees would likely be losing their jobs starting in 2013. That is one-third of the workforce Harlan Spector of the Northeast Ohio Newspaper Guild reported.

Former Florida Governor Charlie Crist Formally Switches to Democrat Party

-By Warner Todd Huston

Charlie Crist is one of the worst examples of a whining “moderate” Republican that got all mad because after his last campaign imploded due to his own idiotic embrace of President Obama, Republicans pushed him off at arms length. Well, now his traitorous trajectory is complete. Tonight he Tweeted that he is now officially a Democrat.

“Proud and honored to join the Democratic Party in the home of President,” the now former Republican Tweeted.

There really isn’t anyone in the GOP, moderate or otherwise, that will miss Charlie Crist. His political career is totally done, and he is no loss to the party at all.

But, whatever the case, he’s now a Democrat. I feel bad for them over this.

Naturally the speculation will begin anew over his sexual orientation. Now that he isn’t a Republican, I’ve already seen some people ask if he’ll get rid of his “beard.” For those unaware, a “beard” is wife — a real female wife — that a gay man marries in order to hide his homosexuality.

Folks have been speculating about Crist’s sexuality for years, but he has always said he is not gay and “proves that” by having married the beautiful Mrs. Crist — and she is a looker, too.

But now that he’s a Democrat and there is no need to act as if he’s straight, will he come out of the closet?

Of course, there is a reason that this will be the main question everyone has on his mind. After all, Crist, 56, has no political career in the offing. He’s a has been. These days he is little else but a crude curiosity.

The image to the upper left is the photo Mr. Crist posted to Twitter showing him holding his new Democrat registration.

Sen. Orrin Hatch: Obama Fiscal Proposal ‘Classic Bait and Switch’

Senator Orrin Hatch (R, Utah) delivered the GOP weekly address and it was a damn good one.

He pulled no punches and laid it out straight that Obama lied when he ran for re-election and perpetrated a “classic bait and switch” maneuver.

Transcript:

“Hi. I’m Senator Orrin Hatch from the great state of Utah.

“The holiday season is upon us: a time when families come together to celebrate and reflect on another year gone by—and another one set to begin.

“But this holiday season is different: as the clock ticks down towards the New Year, nearly every single American is facing the real prospect of what’s called the Fiscal Cliff.

“If we don’t act by the end of the year, 28 million more families and individuals will be forced to pay the Alternative Minimum Tax, 21 times as many farmers and ranchers will be hit with the death tax, and the average middle-class family would see their taxes go up by at least $2,000.

“Economic leaders have told us that if we don’t act, our nation will fall into another painful recession—pushing unemployment back up over 9 percent, threatening our children’s ability to get a good paying job, and putting seniors’ retirements at risk.

“The President has said he wants a so-called balanced approach to solve this crisis. But what he proposed this week was a classic bait and switch on the American people—a tax increase double the size of what he campaigned on, billions of dollars in new stimulus spending and an unlimited, unchecked authority to borrow from the Chinese. Maybe I missed it but I don’t recall him asking for any of that during the presidential campaign. These ideas are so radical that they have already been rejected on a bipartisan basis by Congress.

“Fresh off his reelection, the President has an obligation to first steer us away from the fiscal cliff, and second, to tackle our $16-plus trillion debt, that is driven by our runaway entitlement programs, so our country doesn’t reach this dangerous crossroads ever again.

“But we’ve seen an utter lack of leadership from President Obama, and his allies on the left have shown little—very little—to no willingness to tackle real, structural entitlement reform. There is no manner of tax hike that can save Medicare or Medicaid—these programs can only be fixed with real reforms that go to the heart of how they work.

Some Texas Schools Teaching Boston Tea Party Was Terrorism

-By Warner Todd Huston

It has been revealed that some Texas schools were teaching that the Boston Tea Party, an event widely understood as having helped spark the American Revolution, was actually a “terrorist” attack on British authorities.

At least up until January of 2012, Texas schools utilizing the history curriculum from CSCOPE, a non-profit and supposedly non-partisan education service, taught that the most famous tax protest in American history was akin to terrorism.

The tact taken to discuss the event was to engage kids as if the Boston Tea Party had just occurred and was a current news report.

God Hating Atheists Apparently Believe in Devil?

The billboard featured Mr. Hecate next to the phrase, “This is what an atheist looks like.” The billboard campaign was meant to convey the idea that atheists are somehow just like you and me.

NYTimes Attacks The Washington Post

-By Warner Todd Huston

Amid turmoil within its own ranks over its new CEO, The New York Times found itself looking from without and scolding the leadership of another major newspaper characterizing that paper’s chief as incompetent and claiming that she had “faltered anew.”

On November 18, NYT media critic David Carr went after Katharine Weymouth, The Washington Post’s publisher, for a meeting announcing a change in her Paper’s executive editor in what was, perhaps, a bit of an ungracious manner.

Weymouth’s meeting was called to announce that Post executive editor Marcus Brauchli was leaving and being replaced by Marty Barton, recently the editor of The Boston Globe.

There has been some intrigue between Brauchli and Weymouth, granted, and Weymouth has been at the center of some aborted attempts to grow her paper. But for the media critic of one paper to attack the leadership of another paper is reminiscent of the old days of newspaper wars, something not seen in modern times.

Mr. Carr thought the change in editors signaled “an inopportune time for The Post to stumble.”

Washington Post Softens Criminal Actions of Dem. Corzine in MF Global Fraud

-By Warner Todd Huston

In its November 15 print version, The Washington Post published a story about the criminal financial malfeasance of former Democrat Governor and MF Global Chief John Corzine. But, the Post seemed to have trouble properly identifying Corzine as a Democrat not to mention that it buried the story deep in the paper.

Corzine was the subject of a report this week issued by the House Financial Services’s oversight subcommittee that, while it stopped short of calling Corzine’s actions outright felonies (the committee is leaving that determination to prosecutors), the report raised deep concerns about the magical disappearance of $1.6 billion in investor’s money.

If Corzine were a Republican, who doesn’t believe that The Washington Post would have made sure that the story of the release of this report would have been front-page news? But, no, this story was buried back on page A18.

Today’s Stealth Tax Story

-By Warner Todd Huston

One of the many drags about owning a home in the suburbs rears its ugly head around this time a year. Raking leaves is awful drudgery, everyone knows, and here in the middle of November, I’ve already put it off for several weeks longer than I should have. But as I was raking I realized that I was living a stealth tax imposed on me by my local government.

You know how it goes, I’m sure. Fall arrives and those millions, no billions, of those darn leaves fall from their proper places on your trees’ outstretched branches and in their magnanimity lay there for you to rake up and dispose of.

In many towns across America these nuisance leaves are raked into piles and a match is put to them. Homeowners simply burn them to get rid of them. But in many towns, there is a law against disposing of your yard waste by burning. My town is one of the latter.

So, what are you required to do if you can’t burn them? You must spend hours raking your leaves into piles and then you must stuff them into large paper bags that can be bought at local stores.

And there is the hidden tax. It is an “unfunded mandate,” if you will. You see, my city has forced me to waste my money buying these big paper bags and, worse, waste my time stuffing leaves into them.

Chicago Teachers Union Co-Sponsor of Socialist Program

-By Warner Todd Huston

Now that the Chicago Teachers Union’s big strike is over they have time for other activities. Like pushing the communist idea of “social justice.” And so, the CTU is helping host a “Teaching for Social Justice” event this month.

So, some of the highest paid teachers in the country are all about “the struggle,” eh? (Media base for CTU teachers is $67,974 annually)

Of course, that brings me back to the question I sort of hinted at above: are Chicago’s teachers doing their jobs?

In Harsh Economy, Union Demands Put Crimp in Businesses Across the Country: Recent Stories Surrounding California Grocer

-By Warner Todd Huston

The biggest union news this month is the pending closing of the Hostess Brand snack cake corporation, a company that has been an American mainstay for decades with such products Wonder Bread and Hostess Twinkies. As with the Hostess case, unions repeatedly prove that they’d rather destroy a business with absurd demands and strikes than work with management to keep the company alive in these tough economic times.

Another Illustration of the continued and alarming trend of unions destroying the businesses they work for with absurd contract demands is going on in California, the state with the worst economy and one of the worst business climates in the country.

Recently Raley’s Family of Fine Stores, a north central California-based grocery chain, and the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) reached an agreement over a strike that had workers walking the picket lines for nine weeks. Naturally, the company put a brave face on this agreement but both the strike and the agreement have put a strain on the company that can’t help it survive in this horrid economic climate.

Tax Paid Prof Says Commie Stalin Never Committed Any Crimes

-By Warner Todd Huston

Here is a heartwarming tale of your education tax dollars at work. At a recent school event at a New Jersey public university, a tax paid professor said that Joseph Stalin, the murderous head of the Soviet Union during the WWII era, never committed any crimes against humanity. “I have yet to find one crime that Stalin committed,” the professor yelled at students.

The comments were uttered by Grover Furr, a professor in Medieval English at Montclair State University, a public university in New Jersey. The event at which Furr appeared was billed as a “Campus Debate,” and also featured libertarian professor Yuri Maltsev and conservative professor David Tubbs.

The exchange occurred between an audience member and the erstwhile professor who in his most genteel manner denounced as “bullshit” any claims that Stalin and the Soviet regime was responsible for genocide.

The professor went on to claim that widely known Soviet history as well as U.S. and Canadian history are all “falsified” and wrapped up telling the audience that we should all have socialist medicine.

At least most of the audience booed this nut case as herd in the video. Still, some applauded and it’s sad that any students at all would applaud such craziness.

L.A. Times: Hey, Did We Mention That You Romney Voters are ALL Racists

-By Warner Todd Huston

Sandy Banks of the L.A. Times has figured out why anyone would vote against Barack Obama. Why, they are all racists, of course. Oh, you don’t use “the N word,” she tells us, but we know what you Romney voters really think.

Banks dropped all pretense of logic or fairness in her November 4 piece going right for the throat and claiming that the nation’s “kumbaya era” is over merely because a white man dared run against Barack Obama for the office of President of the United States.

Like all these hate-filled screeds that cast any non-Obama voter as a racist, Banks doesn’t bother trying to actually explain how a nation that elected a black man for president could suddenly, at the drop of a hat, revert to pre-civil rights oppression, she just states it straight as if it is obvious fact.

This has been the single most disgusting attack against Romney voters and, if Obama loses his bid for reelection, be prepared to see every last left-winger on TV and in the commentariat claim that the only reason Obama lost is because the country is filled with hood-wearing, Jim-Crow-loving, racists.

Banks notes that she and her “reporter” friends hear from people “on the campaign trail” who explain to them why they are voting for Romney this time.

When those flag-waving voters are asked what they mean, their take on the president makes it clear: He’s Kenyan-born, he’s a closet Muslim, he has European-socialist tendencies.

But, even those claims, she says, are lies fostered by Romney voters. Such voters, Banks says, are using Obama’s failure over the economy, his failures in foreign policy, and his bowing and scraping to our enemies as a “proxy” to hide their racist hearts.

No one is using the N-word these days. The “foreign” label is its proxy — a signal that Obama is the “other” in a nation trying to come to grips with seismic economic changes and unsettling demographic shifts.

Banks goes on to use that boring, pervasive idea popular among her fellows that code words explain how racism is as bad in America todayas its ever been. She can’t find any overt racism, of course, so she has to pretend she can read between the lines to find it.

This is the racebaiter’s oldest trick. As race relations improved in America — now to the point where but a relative few care much about race — the chiefs of the racebaiting industry have to employ mind reading exercises and plumb wild-eyed inference to “find” their racism so that they can continue to make money off of it.

CNN Celebrates Springsteen Rally For Obama, Ignores Larger Romney Rally

-By Warner Todd Huston

CNN’s 1600 Report blog is currently featuring a photo of aging rocker Bruce Springsteen at a rally for Obama in Wisconsin today. The headline reads, “Springsteen energizes Obama’s final sprint.”

One might think it would be interesting, though, to compare and contrast the size of the crowd at Obama’s Springsteen rally with Romney’s rally from the same day. But, CNN avoids that comparison, perhaps for good reason.

The Springsteen rally was held in Wisconsin, of all states. Wisconsin is supposed to be a solid Obama win, yet here was the President and his personal rock star in the last hours of the campaign desperately touring the very state he is supposed to have a lock on. Worse for Obama, only about 18,000 turned up at the rally.

On the other hand, Mitt Romney was in Pennsylvania, a state he is supposed to have no chance to win. Even more amazing, Romney pulled in over 30,000 people to his rally.

Yeah, I suppose one can understand why CNN didn’t want to make that comparison.

Texas Democrat Nick Lampson Assaults Citizen Journalist

-By Warner Todd Huston

Touting his ideas of “civility” in politics, Texas Democrat Nick Lampson instead physically pushed at a blogger and tried to grab his video camera away from him.

In the beginning of the encounter, Democrat Lampson is seen calmly discussing with the blogger his ideas of a “center aisle caucus,” a plan that he claimed would bring “more civility” to Congress. Lampson insisted, though, that it was current Speaker of the House John Boehner (R, OH) who “tore it apart.” When the blogger brought up the extremely divisive politics of former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D, CA) and asked how her un-democratic policies affected his so-called “center aisle caucus,” suddenly Mr. Texas calm and collected got angry and physically attacked the blogger.

Lampson is running for the 14th Congressional District in Texas and was a Texas Congressman once before. The 14th is a Houston area district situated south and east of the coastal city.

North Carolina’s Mike McIntyre Is No Conservative Democrat

-By Warner Todd Huston

Mike McIntyre is the 8-term, incumbent Democrat Congressman from North Carolina’s 7th Congressional District. He sells himself to the folks back home as a true “Blue Dog Democrat,” a conservative who doesn’t fall for the far left’s nonsense. But a look at his voting record does not substantiate this conclusion, as he’s voted the left’s party line far more than he lets on.

A look at his voting record between 2007 and 2010, for instance, shows that McIntyre sided with ultra left-wing Nancy Pelosi 90 percent of the time. That isn’t such an independent record, is it?

One of McIntyre’s favorite anti-lefty votes is his vote against Obamacare. Again and again McIntyre points to this vote to prove his independent streak. Of course, the truth is then Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi did not need the votes of the few Blue Dogs that opted out of a yea vote to protect their status back home. It was even reported at the time that Speaker Pelosi gave these Blue Dogs dispensation to make their anti-Obamacare vote.

Thousands Turn Out in Ohio For Stevie Wonder Obama Event…OK, It Was Only 200

-By Warner Todd Huston

Apparently even superstar Stevie Wonder can’t get people excited about voting for Obama in Ohio. Only 200 people showed up at a Saturday morning rally featuring the famed singer.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that singer Wonder announced from the stage that he’d sing a few songs, then the participants could board waiting vans that would take them to a local early voting place, and then he’d sing some more when they came back.

But, as the paper notes, no one went to vote. “No one left to vote after the first — or any — song.” The vans stayed idle.

On the other hand, Romney is generating throngs of people at his Ohio events.

Texas Democrat Hazy on Which One the 2nd Amendment Is

-By Warner Todd Huston

Many Americans wonder if members of Congress, especially the Democrats, know anything at all about the U.S. Constitution. Well, Democrat Rep. Rubén Hinojosa of Texas didn’t help quell those fears very much when at a recent rally he couldn’t even remember which one the Second Amendment was.

Rep. Hinojosa was asked about the Second Amendment at a recent event but the 15th District Congressman was just a bit hazy on the whole thing.

“There are so many people in Washington who come and talk to us about the Constitution and the rights that they want kept sacred and that not do anything about them. That we not change them. That we not amend them. And I can tell you that — I’m drawing a blank on the Second Amendment, but I think it’s the weapons, isn’t it? The NRA?”

Hinojosa then went on to ramble about why we have to have “those machine guns.”

“Why in the hell do we have to have machine guns? And don’t touch that, because NRA will come and put you on the black list,” he rambled.

Of course, such weapons have already been outlawed and few Americans have a license to own “machine guns.” Further, the NRA does not fight to try and allow Americans access to such weapons.

New Hampshire Going… Romney?

-By Warner Todd Huston

In keeping with the “Mittmentum” that we are seeing in many states and swing states across the country, New Hampshire is for the first time looking more like a lovely purple color tinged heavily in red with polls showing Mitt Romney topping President Obama there for the first time.

With less than two weeks to go, historically blue New Hampshire is showing a 50% Romney to 48% Obama result in Rasmussen’s latest polling. Rasmussen has shown a steady move forward for Romney for some time. In October, Rasmussen had NH at 48-48 and in June Obama was up 48% to Romney’s 43%.

In recent history New Hampshire has since 1992 gone mostly for Democrats for President. Obama won New Hampshire in 2008. Dem. John Kerry also won the state in 2004. Though Bush won by a sparse 1.2 percent in 2000, the state was back to blue in 1996 and 92 when it went for Clinton, twice.

LA District Attorney Candidate Jackie Lacey’s Influence Pedaling to Avoid Consequences of Car Accident

-By Warner Todd Huston

It seems Lacey will do or say anything for personal gain.

Throughout the years Jackie Lacey has quietly perpetrated an easily-documented battle with the truth, earning the career administrator significant and sizable rewards both personal and political.

On top of perjury and union-busting, it has come to this author’s attention that Jackie Lacey, the woefully substance free, establishment candidate for District Attorney, leveraged her administrative and courtroom relationships to avoid paying medical bills and material damages to the victim of a car accident caused by her husband, Mr. David Lacey, in 2007. Shockingly, the car Mr. Lacey crashed was a government-owned vehicle.

Additionally, Jackie Lacey, who was elevated to the DA’s second-in-command spot the same week she launched her campaign for DA, was a passenger in that government-owned vehicle driven by her husband, David. The facts of the case indicate that the Laceys were violating any number of policies and ordinances by driving the car outside of official County business (otherwise insurance would have covered all of the victim’s claims and this would not be a story).

VOTE FRAUD: Vir. Dem’s Field Director Conspires to Commit Voter Fraud, Forge Docs

-By Warner Todd Huston

So good that Moran’s campaign field director, his son Patrick, conspired with the undercover camera of James O’Keefe to commit vote fraud through forged documents and other violations of the law.

This is pretty blatant. If this guy is doing this so easily, how often is this going on in every other Democrat campaign office? You can bet its a daily occurrence.

The Watchdog has a lot of great information on these Moran folks.

Key points:

Biden’s Custard Pie Soured By Non-Supporter in Ohio

-By Warner Todd Huston

As “Sheriff” Joe Biden stopped by Schmucker’s Restaurant in Toledo, Ohio to have a nice slice of custard pie, his sweet snack was soured by a disgruntled voter who told him to enjoy being VP while it lasted because the end is near, at least the voter hoped so, anyway.

Joe bellied up to the counter to order his pie and sat down next to a male voter who wasn’t so happy with the Obama administration. According to Politico’s Donovan Slack, the voter opened his conversation telling Joe he was “a good guy” but went on to tell him he hoped Joe would lose his bid for re-election.

“Before that, I told him to enjoy his last couple of months,” the man, who declined to give his name, said. “Just because you’re a good guy doesn’t mean you’re a good vice president.”

Slack noted that Biden sensibly took his pie to another table after the encounter with the soured voter.

Forget hunting for the Fountain of Youth. Apparently all one need do to live forever is to register to vote Democrat in North Carolina because for the 2012 General Election, the voters roll shows that the Tar Heel State has 2,214 voters that are 110-years-old! Would you wonder if there is some voter fraud going on?

And wouldn’t you know it, most of them are Democrats, too. Not only that, but they seem to live mostly in four Democrat-controlled counties. Unsurprisingly, some of these aged voters have already voted absentee.

Further, many are even older than 110. In fact, it seems that NC has an awful lot of voters that are 112, too. The Carolina Transparency project did a review of the voter rolls this year and found that there are 631 Democrats who are 112 or older. By contrast the poor Republicans can only find 229 over 112 voters in the state (and “unaffiliated” found 39).

Magnum TI and the Case of Illinois’ Fiscal Crisis

It’s been a tough year, 2012. This state economy is in the tank. It’s got something to do with that income tax hike from a year ago: 67%. A ball and a chain for a guy like me. The boys in Springfield said it’d be temporary, that it’d expire in 2015, but I’m betting otherwise—they need taxpayers to bankroll their gold plated pensions.

It’s a hell of a gig, these pensions. The cats meow. Put in your due as a public servant and you’re retired early, living on easy street. Meanwhile, I just had to lay off my secretary Susie. It’s too bad, she does good work. But we can’t all put it on taxpayer tab, keep kicking the can down the road. And that’s all you’re gonna get from Springfield: a bait and switch, smoke and mirrors. You want real solutions? Voters better make some changes this November, starting with the big cheese at top: Speaker of the House Mike Madigan.

He’s been Speaker for three decades, he’s got more power than Mike Tyson’s left hook. The income tax hike, pension policy—nothing gets passed him without his 10-4. And voters have taken notice. Now, I’ve looked at it two ways to Tuesday and there’s no chance in voting the big cheese out of office. But listen up, if we knock out enough Springfield Democrats—six by my count—he’ll lose his leadership role and he’ll no longer be speaking for you and me. Sounds pretty nice, eh? Just remember, vote out the Springfield Democrats and this case will be closed.

Softening The Blow: NPR Edits Word ‘Tax’ Out of Democrat Debate Performance

-By Warner Todd Huston

Voters do not like taxes. So, National Public Radio in New Hampshire seems to have thought it would be nice to help Maggie Hassan, the Democrat candidate for Governor, by doing a little editing work to take the word “tax” out of one of her answers at a recent candidates debate. The radio folks claimed it was a “mistake,” but eliminating the word sure does tend to soften the blow of her policy ideas.

The September 19 debate featured Republican candidate Ovide Lamontagne and Democrat candidate Maggie Hassan both vying to take the seat being vacated by sitting Governor John Lynch. The edited remark concerns Hassan’s answer to a question about a state program called the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), another left-wing cap and trade-style boondoggle.

In the actual debate, Lamontagne and Hassan were asked if they would keep the RGGI program. Unsurprisingly, the Republican said no, he’d put an end to it. Just as unsurprisingly, Hassan, the Democrat, said she’d keep it. (My bold for emphasis)

I was proud to be a sponsor of that tax, eh, the energy efficiency program because it has saved businesses millions and millions of dollars and created over 400 jobs.

Now this is exactly how Hassan answers in the video of the debate that Hew Hampshire NPR posted.

NH NPR, however, decided to replay the audio of the debate several more times after the September 19 event. In so doing, the taxpayer-supported radio folks did some selective editing to the program in order to get it down to more air-able timing.
