I’m On CNN/Live today after noon

-By Warner Todd Huston

CNN dropped me a line and they’ve asked me to appear once again on their noon time (eastern time) “Blogger Bunch” segment on CNN/Live over on the Net side of the operation.

That either means the last time I was on I made the conservative side look like idiots and they want a repeat of that…. or I did OK last time! Ha, ha.

Well, whatever the case, we are going to discuss Eric Cantor’s new National Council for a New America effort that he launched to have a “discussion” with the American people and begin to fix the GOP.

It usually starts after noon but before 1:00, depending on when they get to it. So, tune it, won’t you?

New Yorker: Obama a Better Churchill than Churchill? (Or Bush)

-By Warner Todd Huston

Amy Davidson of the New Yorker should take up bowling or gardening because history doesn’t seem to be her thang, if you will. In the aftermath of Barack Obama’s own false historical reference, made during a Wednesday press conference, of famed WWII era English Prime Minister Winston Churchill, Davidson jumped to her keyboard to further garble history with an April 30 blog post on her Close Read blog at the New Yorker website.

On Wednesday, Obama made a reference to an “article” he was reading “the other day” wherein he discovered that during WWII Prime Minister Winston Churchill supposedly said “We don’t torture.” (Transcript of Obama’s remarks)The following morning, Davisdon praised Obama for his sentiment and waxed envious over the “very good” article from which Obama gleaned the tale.

Huffington Post: Presenting Fake ‘Doctors’ as Experts?

-By Warner Todd Huston

There is a charge starting to make the rounds of the science and medical blogs that the Huffington Post is allowing its bloggers to claim they are “doctors” when some really aren’t qualified to claim the title. Still others ply their legitimately earned title to discuss as authorities issues in fields other than those in which they trained. Some of these same “doctors” are offering health advice and assessment of scientific news when they really aren’t qualified to discuss them in any way other than as opinionists. So, the questions become these: is the Huffington Post misrepresenting its posters as trained, accredited experts when they aren’t? Is there any attempt by the HuffyPost staff to substantiate the claims made by its posters?

Case in point is the Huffington Post’s wellness editor, “Dr.” Patricia Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald claims to have a doctorate in “Homeopathic Medicine,” as well as a Master’s Degree in “Traditional Chinese Medicine.” But what, exactly, is a Doctorate in Homeopathic Medicine? And why does Fitzgerald not say on her bio page from where these degrees were earned? Why is she so intentionally vague?

When the Obama Backlash Comes

– By Jeff Lukens

Public opinion can be very fickle. Barack Obama has ridden a positive wave of opinion all the way to the White House. The public has welcomed him into office in that same spirit of hope in which he ran. Since the inauguration, however, the president is showing he has different plans than the ones he spoke about during the campaign. It should come as no surprise when the public turns on him just as easily as he has turned on them.

The contradictions between Obama’s words and actions are many. He opposes big government, and then he vastly expands it. He says he favors bipartisanship, but doesn’t practice it. He says he is against earmarks, and then signs the largest pork package in history. And that is just to name a few.

Corruption: State Police Bureaucrat Gets Confiscated Luxury Car Assigned Him

-By Warner Todd Huston

A 2006 Illinois State law allowing state police to seize the personal property of repeat drunk driving offenders resulted in the seizure of a high performance car early this year. The result of this tale is a perfect example of the sort of corruption of principles that working for the state, any state, leads to.

Taken from it’s rightful owner was a 2006 Dodge Charger with a V-8 Hemi engine that speeds from zero to 60 MPH in five seconds and has a topped out speedometer reading of 165. The high-end cruiser had only 26,000 miles on it when the police forcefully took it from its owner.

Hillary Clinton, Racist Fellow-Traveler

-By Thomas E. Brewton

Secretary of State Clinton’s praise of Margaret Sanger was an endorsement for the doctrine that Hitler used to justify the Holocaust.

One of the most horrendous doctrines to emerge from Charles Darwin’s evolutionary hypothesis was the eugenics movement, instituted by his cousin, Sir Francis Galton. Today’s birth control and abortion, according to apologists for abortion, are merely eugenics updated.

Eugenicists in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, denying God as the creator and designer of the universe, asserted that evolution of species was, according to the Darwinian hypothesis, without design. Unstructured evolution among humans, however, could result in mongrelization of the human race, they said. Eugenics thus may be described as Darwinian evolution in a hurry.

Indy Star: Community Organizers Suddenly ‘Cool’ Because of Obama

-By Warner Todd Huston

In keeping with the Old Media’s penchant to lionize The One, the Indianapolis Star is pouring on the saccharine to celebrate the Obammessiah once again in a piece that praises the fact the Obama has made community organizers “cool” at long last. But, a closer reading shows that this new craze for community organizing isn’t all the IndyStar tries to make it out to be.

The Star starts out with the hearwarming tale of law student Zac Elliot who has assured the paper that he has changed his mind about what he wants to do with his life. Gone are his selfish, capitalist dreams of becoming a high paid lawyer and in is his newfound desire to be a “cool” community organizer like his idol Obama. He now wants to help the regular folks because “coincidentally, it’s also become cool” to emulate The One.

Palin Derangement Syndrome Engulfs Baltimore Sun’s TV Guy

-By Warner Todd Huston

Baltimore Sun TV critic David Zurawik should check into a clinic somewhere to have his delicate mental balance checked. Maybe they might have some nice medication he can take to temper his Palin Derangement Syndrome? His is so bad he can’t even write about a little reality TV show without indulging unnecessary vitriol and hate.

It’s interesting that critic Zurawik gets so filled with hate in such a short space. In fact, the tiny four paragraph “review” spends more time name calling and attacking Governor Palin than it does in discussing the TV show on which she is about to appear; TLC’s American Chopper.

Certainly professor Zurawik’s contribution to society is above reproach, of course. Long known to be the bastion of American intellectualism and culture, TV has always been considered one of our most important institutions. So, Zurawik’s work as a critic is sure to have the sort of cultural staying power as that of the great philosophers, I am sure. And his review of Palin’s appearance on American Chopper is sure to remain a standout example of the sort of tour de force work he’s long been known for.

Obama’s Tax ‘Credit’: Old People and Families Hardest Hit

-By Warner Todd Huston

That tax “credit” may cost you next April!

President Obama was praised by the Old Media as the savior of the American taxpayer when he announced in his magnanimity that he was going to give a tax break to “95 percent” of America’s taxpayers. He was hailed as the hero of the working man when he said that a “tax credit” would be given to taxpayers and that this much needed “extra” money would soon be seen in their weekly paychecks. But now comes word that Obama’s IRS is going to want some of that “tax credit” back from an unknown number of taxpayers next year.

It will come as a shock to two income families, some federal workers, retirees, and young people with more than one low paying job that they will be expected to give back some portion of that “extra” money that Obama claimed he was giving them come April 15, 2010.

What a New New Deal Means For You

-By Thomas E. Brewton

Socialism, the motivating ideology of Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal, is the opposite of the political state envisioned in the Bill of Rights. Socialism requires that your individual liberties be subordinated to the needs of the political state.

Whatever its proclaimed intentions for the betterment of society, socialism must diminish your range of individual political and economic freedoms, transferring them to state bureaucrats who promulgate regulations.

One socialist aim, for example, is to reduce or eliminate unemployment, a major concern near the end of World War II. At that time, the British socialist Labour Party was planning its takeover of government, and Friedrich Hayek wrote “The Road to Serfdom” to describe what lay ahead for the British people. Sir William Beveridge, a Labour Party leader, candidly stated the basic fact of the socialized welfare state:

It Starts When You’re Always Afraid

When did the comic advices of, “When in danger, when in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout.” go from a mere joke to today’s reality? Honestly. It’s like the American People are being purposely kept off balance in one big Obamagasm Psy Ops designed to distract them from all the achingly awful, unconstitutional legislation roaring through the Democrat majority Congress and the filibuster proof Senate now.

While news commentators are debating The Great Usurper’s first 100 Days and how the grotesquely self-entitled cretin Senator, Arlen Specter (RINO) ran back to his original Democratic Party roots in order to stay in power past the 2010 elections, Joe and Jane Average are cowering under their respective covers because the rapidly developing-into-a-pandemic swine flu is stalking the land thanks to the feckless Department of Homeland Security refusing to seal the borders. If you add to that Air Force, or should I say Air Farce, One being taken out for a joy ride photo op, which terrorized New York City, supposedly without President Obama’s permission, the FBI spying on the attendees of the Tax Day TEA Parties and everyone else being smeared as a racist every time one objects to Obama and his leftist agenda, it’s enough to induce mass agoraphobia.

NYTimes Sends American Tourists to One of England’s Most Dangerous Areas for ‘Hip’ Vacation

-By Warner Todd Huston

One would think that The New York Times is purposefully putting American’s in harm’s way with its latest travel section vacation suggestion. If it isn’t doing it on purpose, it certainly is acting almost criminally negligent over its reader’s safety abroad. Back on March 22, the Times suggested that Americans vacation in Deptford, one of England’s most dangerous, crime infested areas. And why would the Times want to send Americans into such a seedy and dangerous place? Because it’s “hip,” man. What else?

The suggestion by the NYTimes for American tourists to visit Deptford brought all manners of jaw-dropping, guffaws from the British press this week. The disbelief is thick over there because Deptford has some of the highest crimes stats in the country — the tenth most violent according to Britain’s Home Office — and Britons simply cannot fathom why The New York Times would willingly send Americans unawares into the heart of such violence and crime.

Government-Imposed Uncertainty Deepens The Recession

-By Thomas E. Brewton

Repeated Federal interventions in the economy make businessmen fearful of what the government may do next. And that fear prolongs recessions.

In Publicly Berating Bankers and Businessmen Has Consequences, I wrote:

In addition to the problem that New Deal regulations prevented reducing costs enough to produce at a profit, businesses did not expand and rehire, because they were in perpetual uncertainty and fear about what FDR would do next. As a consequence, private investment was at historically low levels during the New Deal era.

A Jackboot at Home, an Olive Branch Abroad listed a few of the heavy-handed, arbitrary interventions by the Obama administration, interventions that create great uncertainty and deter business and bankers from revving up production and lending.

Shocker: Obama Staffers Attend Secret Dinners With Lefty Media

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Washington Post’s Howard Kurtz has let the cat out of the bag in the Post’s April 27 issue about a regularly scheduled secret media dinner attended by some of the top left-wing journalists in the country. But it isn’t just the lefty scribblers that have attended these secret, off-the-record dinners for these gatherings have each featured a guest. Rahm Emanuel, Sec. of the Treasury Tim Geithner, and Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke have all recently had their chance to schmooze the press and guide them with the spin desired by the White House.

So, not only does Obama’s Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel have secret daily phone calls with which to program the media’s coverage of the White House, now it is revealed that Emanuel and other Obama staffers have been attending secret dinners to help the press “understand” what the White House wants reported? As Kurtz says, it all sounds “rather cozy,” doesn’t it?

Pianist Cancels All U.S. Concerts Over Foreign Policy

-By Warner Todd Huston

I respect Polish concert pianist Krystian Zimmerman’s moxie. Oh, he hasn’t a clue what he is talking about, but he has the courage of his convictions at least, which is more than I can say for all those wild-eyed, half-informed, hypocrites in the American entertainment industry.

You see, a few days ago, pianist Zimmerman announced in the middle of a concert that he would no longer be playing concerts in the U.S. because he is against U.S. foreign policy. If you truly want to know this loon’s political complaints, there is a long, pointless and boring story about it in the L.A. Times on April 28.

Me, I couldn’t care less about this half-wit’s gripes. But I do applaud him for having the backbone to do something about it. He will forgo his money, cancel his concerts and leave this country. I say good for him. It’s about time one of these pampered “stars” in the entertainment industry finally has the stones to live up to the blather.

WaPost: Slams Older Workers as ‘Lumbering,’ Less Talented

-By Warner Todd Huston

Looks like Washington Post Editorial Page Editor Fred Hiatt sort of put his foot in his mouth — or his pen as the case may be — in an April 27 editorial where he as much as called America’s older workers “lumbering” and less talented than “younger, nimbler” employees. In a nation that has one of its largest blocks of citizens in the “older” category, those over 40, it seems like Hiatt just insulted the largest number of Americans. Not the best way to sell newspapers, eh?

In his headlined “600,000 Bad Hires? Making Federal Jobs Cool Once Again,” Hiatt seems to be urging The One to come to the rescue of the jobs market. Well, not real jobs, but government jobs, anyway.

Here is how he jabs workers over 40.

Chavez’ Penn, Or How Santa Monica High Should Hang Its Penn in Shame

-By Warner Todd Huston

Someone needs to sue Santa Monica High School for education malpractice on behalf of the ill-educated Sean Penn. I mean, the man is nearly illiterate and he certainly has no grasp on history, philosophy, or statecraft. But his wacko left-wing inanities aside, it is his illiteracy that seems the most lamentable. Oh, it isn’t Rosie O’Donnell illiterate, hers is a special class of insensibility all by itself, but Penn’s brand is proof of the lowest quality of education. I mean the man can barely put two words together sensibly much less exhibit a grasp of grammar and syntax. It really is a crime how badly he’s been educated.

Take for instance his latest Huffington Post blathering where he seems to be saying that all we need to win the day in international relations is to give a “smile.” Aside from being childishly simplistic in concept, it has some of the worst word usage and syntax I’ve seen for a long time in what is supposed to be a leader of opinion (again, Rosie aside).

Now, I don’t claim to be the king of grammar, myself. But, if I had millions of dollars as he does I’d at least be smart enough to hire an editor so that I don’t end up looking like a complete moron. Unfortunately, I am one of the po’folk, so I have to muddle through as best as I can.

His wind up is amusing for its utter lack of introspection.

An Intolerance for Southern Culture

-By Warner Todd Huston

In July of 2008 a national hotel chain manager had a man arrested for displaying a Confederate flag in his hotel room window in Concord, North Carolina. It happened that Concord’s Wingate Inn had booked guests that had come to participate in the annual convention for an organization known as the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV), a group that celebrates family ties to that Confederate service of 145 years ago. To be sure the hotel manager knew full well that every guest would be displaying Confederate flags everywhere they went. On shirts, on book bags, on posters, on their cars these dozens of guests had Confederate flags on display. Little flags, medium sized flags, and big flags filled the hotel.

Yet hotel management called the cops on this one guy.

So, what happened? Why did this hotel manager imagine he had the right to force just this one guy, Basil D. Childress of Kentucky, to pull down his flag while ignoring all the others? Why were the police idiotic enough to actually arrest the non-violent and perfectly compliant hotel guest instead of telling the hotel manager that he was acting foolishly?

Harry Reid’s Arrogant Obama

-By Warner Todd Huston

Harry Reid made a mistake. I know that is over generalized so I’ll narrow it down to a specific mistake because there are far too many from which to choose. The mistake I am taking about is in the addendum to his book titled “The Good Fight,” ghost written by Mark Warren, that is about to come out in paperback.

Reid added a 15-page epilogue to the paperback version that confirms Obama’s arrogance. In it, Reid claims to have approached Obama after a speech on Bush’s war policies that Reid heard Obama give just after becoming the Junior Senator from Illinois. After congratulating Obama on the speech, Reid recounts that Obama replied, “I have a gift, Harry.”

Well, that wasn’t too self-congratulatory, too arrogant, what it now?

The Fiduciary Trust

-By Dan Scott

Everyone who is responsible for financial transactions and decisions that effect the wellbeing of others understands the term, fiduciary. There is a code of ethics and duty which governs that relationship. I will quote the on line Business Dictionary to help you understand this idea of fiduciary so you may see how essential it is in the conduct of business affairs: (bold is mine)

Special relationship of trust and confidence which, in the words justice Benjamin Nathan Cardozo (1870-1938; US Supreme court judge from 1932 to 1938) is “something more than the ordinary honor of the marketplace … the very punctilio of honesty and forthrightness.” Fiduciary relationships exist between an agent and principal, testator and trustee, testator and executor, ward and guardian, customer and bank, client and attorney, patient and doctor, partner and partner, stockholders (shareholders) and directors, etc. In these relationships law demands a higher than ordinary degree of care and responsibility from the dominant or trusted party.

A Week for the Earth; A Day for the Constitution

-By Frank Salvato

Each morning, as I drive my wife to the train, we listen to our local news talk radio station, WIND AM560 in Chicago. Their morning team, John and Cisco, offer a solid discussion on most issues presented, much more balanced and cerebral than the other talkers in Chicago. On this day, and, in fact, for most of the week, they have been addressing “Earth Week.” Today, as we made our way to the train, Cisco said something that struck a chord with both of us. To paraphrase, he said that he was a bit annoyed that Earth Day had morphed into Earth Week. To which my wife, Nancy, said, “You know, they have a week for the Erath but just one day for the Constitution.”

Nancy’s statement is true, not only for Earth Week but for a multitude of celebratory causes and events. We have Arthritis Week, Eating Disorders Week, Contraceptive Week, Celebrate Your Name Week and Let’s Talk About Sex Week. We even have entire months that are dedicated to causes and ideologies. There is National Prune Breakfast Month, Black History Month, Boost-Your-Self-Esteem Month, National Social Workers Month, National Salsa Month, Gay Pride Month, Lasagna Awareness Month, National Hispanic Heritage Month, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender History Month, Wear Brown Shoes Month and National Toilet Tank Repair Month.

But when it comes to the study and appreciation of the document that allows us all to celebrate and expand our awareness of these “important” issues we halfheartedly designate one day in September. US Constitution Day is September 17th.

Guest: Thousands Protest Lifetime TV’s New Father-Bashing Reality Show ‘Deadbeat Dads’

-By Glenn Sacks

Thousands of protesters have called and written Lifetime Television this week to protest Lifetime’s new father-bashing reality show Deadbeat Dads. Last year, similar protests drove the show—originally called Bad Dads–off of Fox.

According to Reuters, in Deadbeat Dads Jim Durham, director of the National Child Support Center, “functions as a sort of ‘Dog the Bounty Hunter’ for tracking deadbeats.” Durham targets dads by “making their lives miserable — foreclosing on their house, repossessing their car. He will squeeze them… It’s ambush reality TV.”

The program’s depiction of divorced dads is a horrendous distortion. Research clearly shows that most divorced dads pay their child support and strive to remain a part of their children’s lives, often under very difficult circumstances. The Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement’s own data shows that two-thirds of “deadbeat dads” earn poverty level wages—only 4% earn even $40,000 a year.

About Dick Cheney: How the Old Media Creates a False Attack

-By Warner Todd Huston

The newest false meme invented by the Old Media is this claim that ex-presidents and ex-vice presidents have some sort of “tradition of silence” where it concerns commenting on those that take residence in the White House after they leave. The reason the Old Media is pushing this false claim is because Dick Cheney has been commenting on Obama’s security mistakes and the Old Media wants to scold Cheney for his efforts to get the truth to the people.

Certainly it is true that some ex-chief executives have maintained silence after they left office. Still, it isn’t really true that there has been any long tradition of staying silent out of some sort of respect for the new president. But, no matter how many past presidents/vice presidents have remained quiet, the one glaring exception to that so-called tradition is the vp just before Cheney: Al Gore. And this man has been absent in the Media’s attack on Cheney.

Obama Reverses Rule, Gives Unions Cover for Corruption

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, we can’t say no one saw this one coming, but Obama has turned back rules that had been put in place to force unions to be more transparent in their financial reporting. These rules were meant to stop union fraud, theft, and embezzlement but in an effort to pay back his supporters, Obama has turned these rules back so that unions can find it easier to hide illicit financial transactions.

Naturally, one of the chief opponents to union transparency that fought the Bush administration, Deborah Greenfield, is now in the Obama administration. It was Greenfield that fought the financial reporting rules when she was a lawyer for the AFL-CIO. She was against forcing unions to account for all their illicit cash and secret accounts then. Now that she is in charge of implementing such rules she has been a major part of eliminating them so that unions could more easily hide their financial dealings from union members and the government.

Americans who reject Marxist socialism are castigated as ‘right-wing extremists’

-By Marie Jon

It could not be nearer to what you suspect. Under his new regime, President Barack Obama’s Department of Homeland Security sent an intimidating message to law enforcement agencies nationwide calculated to silence any American who does not agree with the president’s social notions and political agenda.

It is obvious that Rev. Jeremiah Wright is the driving force behind Obama’s paranoia. What the future president took away from Rev. Wright’s sermons contributes to Obama’s outlook and resultant policies, both at home and abroad. We have become a weakened country. Our enemies see a president who is ready to cozy up to any unscrupulous dictator who wants to inflict harm against our country, while Obama calls it a meaningful dialogue.

AP Barf Alert: Obama Has no ‘Rookie Jitters,’ is ‘Extraordinarily at Ease’ as President

-By Warner Todd Huston

I am not a doctor, but I play one on the Internet. So, take the following as a prescription for what ails you. Now, if for some unexplainable reason you have been feeling queasy since November of last year, if you have felt like you want to throw up but just can’t seem to get that bile to overflow, well I have a little something here that will surely cause that gag reflex to result in a healthy expulsion of bubbling acids. The Associated Press would call it a “news story,” but it serves a far better purpose as syrup of ipecac than anything else.

Anyway, if you need a ready emetic, try giving a read to our pal Liz Sidoti’s doting portrayal of President Obama as a “no jitters” expert that is “extraordinarily at ease” sitting in the big chair. He’s a fellow that has mastered the office even though he has “youth and inexperience,” and he’s Confident almost to a fault.” Obama is the greatest story ever told as far as Liz is concerned… and after only four short months in office to boot.

Something About This Just Ain’t Right…

-By Glenn Flowers

I’ve been thinking a lot about the trillions of dollars that have been spent or allocated in Obama’s plan to, supposedly, get the economy back on track. There is a lot about this that has a bad smell to it, but one aspect really is putrid.

Let’s imagine a friend came to you and asked for a loan to enable him to keep his home and feed his family. You would love to be able to help him out, but you have no cash. Feeling like you must do something for your friend, you offer to give him your CreditPlus card that has an unlimited line of credit. He is very appreciative and you feel you have done a good thing.

About three months later, your CreditPlus statement comes in the mail and shows new purchases of $11, 600. You are shocked but decide to calmly ask your friend how he and the family are doing and see what he says. He is up front and tells you how much he’s spent on your card before you even ask. You let him know that you are glad to have been able to help. He then says he is very appreciative and he is sorry that he has created that amount of a burden for you to have to deal with in the future. He says he hopes you will be able to pay the debt without too much trouble. You are flabbergasted that he expects you to pay off the debt that he has borrowed from you.

Now, back to reality.

Obamideal: Magazine Photoshops Prez Image for Cover, Is It Ethical?

-By Warner Todd Huston

A few days ago Noel Sheppard brought to us the story of yet another example of how the star struck media is fawning over President Obama. But, when the story first broke of the photo of that lean, swimsuit wearing Obama gracing the cover of the next issue of Washingtonian Magazine, it wasn’t immediately realized that the photo itself was a photoshoppped image of the president and not in its original form.

But not soon after the image of the cover was released folks began to realize what had happened. It turns out that Washingtonian Magazine made several photoshop alterations to the Obama image to enhance it to make it more pleasing to look upon. So, the main question centers on whether it’s ethical to photoshop the image of the president for a news story?

I suppose, though, if you want your Obammessiah to look his best, why not use all the tools at your disposal… even if they are a tad unethical.
