Ill GOP Gov Poll: Rauner Still Leading, Dillard Takes Second Place

-By Warner Todd Huston

The folks at Champion News has the results of a new poll that shows that race for the GOP nomination for Governor has tightened a little and a new candidate has stormed into second place.

Conservative businessman Bruce Rauner is still in the lead, but his numbers have dropped to 18 percent. This is to be expected as we get closer to primary Election Day.

But the more interesting aspect of this poll is that State Senator Kirk Dillard has stormed into second place while State Treasurer Dan Rutherford, the former number two man, has fallen to the bottom of the pack.

The poll gives Rauner a big lead at 35.6 percent. But Dillard has come from last place to second with 17.25 percent of the vote. Then, taking up a perennial third place, State Senator Bill Brady garnered 12.8 percent of the vote.

Dr. Julie Cosimo, one of the three candidates vying for the Illinois State House from the 50th District and it seems has found a big supporter in businessman Richard Uihlein.

According to state campaign finance reporting, Uline donated $5,300, the maximum amount that can be given by an individual.

Businessman Richard Uihlein was reported as one of the biggest tea party supporters in Illinois.

Illinois Democrats Are Planning to Raise Income Taxes on the Middle Class

-By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois Democrats want to put a measure on the next ballot to get Illinoisans to agree to change the state constitution to allow a progressive income tax to be instituted. But Democrats are lying to the faces of every citizen when they say that this would only raise taxes on “the rich.” The fact is a progressive rate would immediately raise taxes on every single citizen not to mention open the door for a constant jiggering and re-jiggering of the rates–a jiggering that would only and always go upward.

Illinois State Senator Michael Connelly is leading the charge to stop the progressive tax scheme in Illinois.

Currently the state constitution has an amendment that stipulates that the state will only have an across the board flat tax for everyone. It won’t be higher for some and lower for others as a graduated tax is. Those who wrote this measure in the constitution put it into law because they felt that a flat tax would help small businesses and give the state’s tax structure some stability. Now, Democrats want to throw that stability to the four winds.

To sell the idea, Democrats are pretending that this progressive income tax would only hit “the rich,” but right at the outset this is a lie. Several proposals show that it would hit everyone right at the beginning.

Illinois Wants Potheads to Give Up Their Second Amendment Rights

-By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois is mulling a new medical marijuana law that would force pot users to sign away their right to bear arms.

Those who focus on the right to bear arms love to say, “what part of ‘shall not be infringed’ don’t you understand,” as a catch phrase to show that the founders did not want government to be able to sweep in and take away our rights to self defense. That phrase can be asked of Illinois legislators who are proposing that to get a medical marijuana permit citizens would have to relinquish their right to bear arms.

The plan would require pot users to be fingerprinted for a background check, they’d have to pay a yearly $150 permit fee, and they would be forced to give up their Second Amendment rights to be allowed to get pot.

Interestingly, the National Rifle Association is not too keen to jump into this one. Apparently coming to the aid of pot users is a role they aren’t comfortable with so for now the NRA is not taking a position on the proposed law other than to say it will be interesting to see how the courts are going to reconcile it.

Bruce Rauner Not So Against ‘Career Politicians’ as He Seems?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Doug Ibendhal over at RepublicanNewsWatch.com has a very interesting observation about Illinois GOP outsider Bruce Rauner’s claim that he stands against “career politicians.” Rauner is actually supporting one of the biggest career politicians in the country quite despite his posturing against that class of public servant.

Of course, we know that Rauner has spared no expense out of his large personal fortune to launch TV and radio ads saying that he is fighting both the profligate Democrats and the slothful career politicians that have enabled them on the GOP side. We’ve heard his ads all over the state, to be sure.

In fact, that’s about all anyone knows of the GOP race for governor thus far, Rauner is against career politicians and he’ll somehow magically institute term limits. The good people of Illinois have been inundated with Rauner’s ads to the point where he’s practically sucked all the oxygen out of the room for the other three Republican candidates.

There have been a few dents in Rauner’s domination over the last few weeks with his flip flop on cutting, then not cutting the minimum wage and his supposed pay-to-play donations to his daughter’s exclusive school so that she would get accepted as a student there.

Proft Says No Connection Between PAC and Anti-Rauner Group as Rauner Takes Hits for Flip Flop

-By Warner Todd Huston

The good folks at Illinois Review recently reported that a large donation to Liberty Principles PAC–a group helmed by WLS talk show host Dan Proft–caused rumors to circulate that claimed that the $1.5 million donation was in response recent anti-Rauner ads being funded by a pro-union group and headed up by a one of GOP Congressman Arron Schock’s associates. Tonight, Proft is responding to the rumors.

Proft told IR that the donation by Dick Uihlein is earmarked only for state legislative races, not federal races, not the Governor’s office or other top spots. So, the donation is not intended to help get Rauner elected through efforts by Proft’s PAC.

As Proft told IR: “The investment represents Mr. Uihlein’s ongoing commitment to the economic liberty policy agenda and to Illinois state legislative candidates who share that commitment. Mr. Uihlein’s financial commitment is shared by a growing number of Liberty Principles PAC donors who understand the need for new political leadership in Springfield in order for Illinois to attract and retain businesses and grow jobs.”

Illinois Gun Maker Flees State, Moves to Iowa

-By Warner Todd Huston

Liberal Illinois is one of the most inhospitable states for Constitutional rights in America and because of that and other considerations yet another gun manufacturer is closing up shop in the Land of Lincoln and fleeing to a neighboring state.

Lewis Machine & Tool Company–known as LMT–has been in Milan, Illinois since it was founded 33 years ago. The company produces rifles for both the civilian market, the military, and law enforcement agencies.

But now that business owner Karl Lewis wants to expand he is logically moving his company to a better state.

Lewis is headed to Davenport, Iowa.

Illinois Gov. to Make it Easier for Convicts to Get State Jobs

-By Warner Todd Huston

It’s Illinois, so naturally our accidental Governor had to figure out a way to make it easier for convicted felons to get a state job. After all, what would half of the state’s politicians do after they got out of prison? Live off the millions they stole from the government before their trial? Sheyeah, like that will last forever!

So, coming to the rescue is Illinois Governor Pat Quinn who may be about to issue an administrative order eliminating one particular little check box that appears on applications for state jobs. It is the box that demands that applicants inform the state whether or not they have been convicted of a crime or pleaded guilty to one.

Quinn is under the microscope of a group called the Worker’s Center for Racial Justice, a group pushing a campaign to urge the Illinois Governor to “ban the box,” and eliminate the self-reporting requirement on job applications. Quinn has promised that in the next few weeks he will acquiesce to the activist group’s demands.

Mayor of Illinois’ 3rd Largest City Quits Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns Group

-By Warner Todd Huston

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s anti-Second Amendment group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, has lost another member, this time the mayor of Rockford, Illinois–the state’s third largest city.

At a townhall-styled event sponsored by the Rockford Tea Party on June 22 in Loves Park, Illinois, Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey announced that he has, indeed, quit Mayor Bloomberg’s gun group because Bloomberg’s group was not fulfilling what Morrissey felt was the group’s stated intentions.

Morrissey has for some time been saying he intended to quit the anti-gun group and some citizens wondered if this was just electioneering, but at this most recent townhall event, Mayor Morrissey has for the first time said definitively that he is out.

In the video shot by local political blogger Ulysses Arn, Mayor Morrissey said the chief reason he left Bloomberg’s group is because he thought the group would be against illegal guns but has instead become a group looking for ways to ban legal guns and attack the rights of legal gun owners. He also said that he intends to get a concealed carry license himself when they become available in Illinois.

Morrissey also made a salient point about the sort of guns Bloomberg’s group keeps harping on. The mayor pointed out that the sort of gun crime he sees in Rockford has nothing whatever to do with “assault rifles” but is instead criminal use of handguns. Yet Bloomberg’s group seems chiefly interested in so-called assault rifles despite the fact that little crime is committed by criminals using assault rifles.

Dissing Erika Harold: Racist Rant Gets GOP Chairman in Hot Water

So, for the upcoming 2014 mid term elections, Davis has a competitor for the 13th District seat. But one Davis supporter is not happy at all about the competition.

In his zeal to come to the support of Rodney Davis, County Chairman Jim Allen of the Montgomery County GOP made an ass of himself with a racist, email rant slamming Harold as “the love child of the D.N.C.”

The email rant was sent on June 18 and reported by Dough Ibendhal of RepublicanNewsWatch.com.

Useful Idiot: Illinois Democrat Says Govt’s Job is to ‘Give Rights’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois State Representative Sara Feigenholtz thinks her job is to “give rights” to people. Feigenholtz recently blurted that out in an interview giving us a perfect example of the key difference between those interested in preserving the American system, its morals, and traditions, and those that have no interest in such niceties and instead what to wholly remake the relationship between government and citizen giving government more and more power over everyone.

In the interview, Feigenholtz, a Chicago Democrat in the 12th District, announced her intention to “give rights” to the gay community in Illinois and felt that this “giving” of rights was one of the most important jobs of elected officials.

“For me, the most precious thing I do as a lawmaker is giving people rights,” Feigenholtz said. “We have a powerful opportunity as elected officials to do this.”

As an aside, Feigenholtz then went on to disgustingly exploit the Holocaust in WWII as a means to push her “gay rights” issues.

Of course, this little admission shows there is a monumental chasm here between progressives and left-wingers like Feigenholtz and the rest of us that hew closer to American tradition.

Champaign Mayor Accused of Assaulting Local Musician

-By Warner Todd Huston

Champaign Mayor Don Gerard, once a local rock and roll musician, has been accused of assaulting a local musician at a public event.

Champaign musician Jim Bean has filed for an order of protection against Mayor Gerard saying that he physically assaulted him at the Boneyard Creek Community Day sponsored by the Champaign Park District.

Bean told police that he was playing a song on his guitar when Mayor Gerard interrupted him and began to verbally assault him. The argument continued until Mayor Bean called the police on the musician. The police came but no charges were filed at that time.

Gerard claims that the musician had somehow harassed his teenaged daughter, but musician Bean says he doesn’t even know the Mayor’s daughter.

All Other Problems Solved, Chicago Democrats’ New Law Worried About Dogs Behind the Wheel

-By Warner Todd Huston

Having apparently solved all of the other debilitating problems Illinois is facing, Chicago Democrats have now turned their considered attention to making sure dog owners don’t let their puppies get behind the wheel of an automobile.

This important bill (HB1581) amends the Illinois vehicle code to ban drivers from putting their pooch on their laps as they drive. Presumably the Democrats understand it is the humans that are doing the driving, not the dogs–but we may need to launch a second legislative campaign to clarify that.

As Chicago-based Democrat and co-sponsor of the bill, Rep. Bully Burke, says, “Because I travel, I can’t help but observe the number of people with dogs on their laps.” And so, ol’ Billy is out to correct this egregious public safety issue. He’s all about solving the puppy-distracted driver issue.

This is a vital issue, to be sure.

Why? Well, it’s obvious that Illinois Democrats have solved every other nagging issue in the Land of Lincoln, right?

Adam Andrzejewski: ‘I’m Not Running for Office in 2014’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Many thought that conservative activist Adam Andrzejewski was going to announce that he would be running for Illinois State Treasurer this afternoon, but he pulled a fast one on everyone with his announcement on March 19 at the University Club in Chicago.

Andrzejewski, who ran for Governor on a reform agenda in 2010, called a press conference on Tuesday morning leaving some in the room clearly stunned when he announced that instead of seeking office in 2014, he would dedicate himself to his various government transparency efforts.

“After consulting with supporters, donors, advisors, and my family,” Andrzejewski said in a statement, “I have decided not to run for office in 2014 election cycle.”

Andrzejewski went on to announce that he is going to dedicate himself to his newest project to put the federal checkbook online. The effort called Open The Books (http://www.openthebooks.com/) will give citizens access to government spending across the nation.

Illinois Passes Drivers Licenses for Illegal Immigrants

-By Warner Todd Huston

After a vote on January 8, Illinois is set to join only two other states, New Mexico and Washington, to allow illegal immigrants to apply for state drivers licenses. A third state, Utah, allows illegals to drive on temporary permits.

The 65-46 vote where 11 Republicans, some in leadership positions, joined Democrats to extend legal licenses came after a long, heated debate (SB 957).

Conservative activist William J. Kelly criticized the law.

“This kind of legislation has spurred a serious fraud problem in New Mexico and other states where it has been enacted,” Kelly wrote in the State Journal-Register. “Papers have been forged, auto repair shops have been regularly listed as places of residence, and more illegal driver’s licenses schemes have caused headaches for law enforcement as foreigners from other countries come to the state to fraudulently receive a U.S. driver’s license.”

Indeed, New Mexico’s Governor has been fighting to repeal her state’s licenses for illegals law.

Illinois Set to Ramp Up Extreme Gun Banning Law

-By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois is the only state in the Union that does not allow some sort of concealed carry statute for its law-abiding citizens. Illinois is also home to the city with the highest murder rate in the country. And yet, the Land of Lincoln is set to ring in the New Year with a new gun banning law that is more extreme than any yet instituted.

Illinois State Senate President John Cullerton (D, Chicago) is going to try and push through a new “assault weapons” ban in the Illinois legislature’s upcoming lame duck session that is so extreme that even some antique guns will be banned.

The Illinois State Rifle Association reports that Cullerton’s bill will ban pump action shotguns, semiautomatic pistols and rifles, and even antiques rifles like the M-1 Garand, the rifle used by U.S. troops in World War Two. (The M-1 Garand has only an 8-round, clip-fed ammunition system.)

According to the source, the bill would not include any grandfathering and would require Illinois gun owners to turn in their guns to the Illinois State Police where they will be destroyed.

“If [Cullerton] is successful at doing so,” the ISRA says, “nearly every gun you currently own will be banned and will be subject to confiscation by the Illinois State Police.”

Concealed Carry Ban Struck Down in Illinois

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, this is an interesting development. Remembering that Illinois is the only state that has a concealed carry ban still on the books, a federal judge ruled the ban unconstitutional and told the state legislature it has180 days to dump the ban and write legislation allowing for concealed carry.

Judge Richard Posner presides over the Seventh Court of Appeals in Chicago and wrote, in part, that the Supreme Court has already ruled that self-protection and, therefore, concealed carry, is an individual right under the Second Amendment. So, Illinois is violating the Constitution.

Still, Posner felt that some restrictions might be OK under the Constitution.

Illinois Blogger Threatened With Lawsuit by Anti-Free Speech Democrat Jack Franks

-By Warner Todd Huston

Blogger Cal Skinner of McHenry County Blog is under attack by another anti-free speech Democrat — not that any Democrat is pro-free speech, of course. Democrat State Rep Jack Franks has sent Mr. Skinner a threatening letter essentially telling him to stop writing about him, or else.

Now, Democrat Franks wants us to feel sorry for him as any reading of his threatening letter can see. In his letter Democrat Franks is pretending that blogger Skinner is trying to post images of his family and invading their privacy. Democrat Franks also claims that Skinner is “not credentialed” as a “journalist” so he shouldn’t be allowed to write criticism of the public official.

First of all, Cal Skinner has never posted any photo of Jack Franks that wasn’t obtained during a public event and Skinner has no interest in Jackie boy’s family — just about Franks’ public policy decisions as a State Rep. Secondly, legal case after legal case all across this great land is coming down in favor of bloggers. So, Franks’ attempt to shut a blogger up is running counter to American right of free political speech, not just in the spirit of the First Amendment (that part of the Constitution that Democrats hate with a passion) but even counter to emerging law concerning the status of bloggers that is being set all across the country.

But Democrats hate, hate, hate being dogged by Internet journalists. Democrats just aren’t used to seeing bad press, after all. I mean, the so-called “real journalists” out there never write a bad word about them, so it’s no surprise that Democrats get alarmed when conservative bloggers begin to write about them in a critical manner.

What Happened at the Illinois GOP Convention? Mostly Status Quo, But…

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Illinois Republican Party held its 2012 Party Convention this weekend. On the docket was addressing some asked for rules changes and picking a slate of delegates to the GOP national convention to nominate Mitt Romney to carry the Party’s banner in the upcoming presidential election. My ultimate analysis is that this was a status quo convention, but signs show that the status quo might not be too long for this world.

Two things first, here. One, I have to state up front that I intended to be a delegate from my district at the Illinois GOP convention. I registered as such and was accepted by my man Tim Schneider of the Hanover Republicans, but forces outside of politics (in other words, real life) prevented me from participating to the fullest extent. Regardless, I wanted to let you know of my intentions upfront so that you can see that I am not just a disinterested bystander in this deal.

Two, if you want a blow-by-blow account of the many great speeches, see Cal Skinner’s report at McHenry County Blog. I will mention a few things, but won’t do the speech-by-speech analysis. Skinner covered that very well so I don’t feel the need to cover that ground again.

Rep. Aaron Schock plies the crowd after his address

Now, The single most controversial issue that was on the docket was the decision to initiate direct elections. For instance, there are many Republicans who want to change how the members of the State Central Committee are selected. Currently they are appointed by the committeemen but many voices in the party want to change that. They want these party leaders to stand for election (like the Democrats do, incidentally) instead of being appointed by the votes of the committeemen. This issue has been in debate throughout the state for several years already and I’ve covered that debate many times. (Check my out old coverage of SB600 using the search feature)

I am told that several attempts were made by various committeemen to get this issue its due during Friday’s Committee meetings. The issue failed in committee on Friday, but a spirited debate continued that afternoon, anyway. Ultimately, John Parrot of Congressional District 15 attempted to get the direct elections issue brought to the convention floor on Saturday for discussion and a vote as a separate issue. Instead party leaders decided to allow a “yea” or “nay” vote on Saturday.

Rage in the Illinois House

-By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois House Rep Mike Bost (R, Murphysboro) came to his wits end over the last second introduction of a pension reform bill by House Speaker Michael Madigan (D). The bill was introduced only minutes before Madigan wanted to force the House to vote on the bill. As the bill was introduced, Bost went nuts on the floor screaming and throwing papers in a rage.

“These damn bills that come out here all the damn time, come out here at the last second!” Bost yelled. “I’ve got to figure out how to vote for my people!”

Bost’s biggest complaint is the fact that for years only one man has had total control over the entire state. That one person would be Democrat House Speaker Mike Madigan.

Annual NW Suburban GOP Lincoln Day Dinner — Newt, Roskam, Walsh, Dold, Schock

-By Warner Todd Huston

I attended the annual Northwest Suburban Republican Lincoln Day Dinner March 14 and took a handful of photos for your interest. This year’s special guest speaker was Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gingrich, in town making the rounds for his run for the White House.

The program was emceed by WLS Radio personality and political gadfly Dan Proft. Also speaking were Congressmen Joe Walsh (8th District), Robert Dold (10th District), Peter Roskam (6th District), and the keynote speaker was Rep. Aaron Schock (18th District).

I got a bit rushed by the Secret Service, sadly. I had taken a chair just to the right of the stage (audience right, not stage right) and had all my computer gear and whatnot out and in use and the Secret Service decided I wasn’t allowed to be there for what ever absurd reason. I was 5 tables away from the stage and in a corner, not in an aisle. Anyway, they grabbed all my gear and rushed me to the back of the room. Sheese.

Still I settled in and was at least allowed to take my photos. So, as the program began Radio talker Proft began the night with a joke. Not that this is uncommon, for an emcee to start with a joke, but it was an amusing one, so I’ll recount it here.

Dan Proft, WLS Radio

Callista Gingrich

“What is the difference between a Democrat politician in Illinois and a mobster,” Proft asked. The answer: “A pension.”

Proft next introduced Newt’s wife Callista who then introduced the Speaker.

Newt Takes the Stage

Seeing as how this was the Lincoln Day Dinner, Newt began with some words about the 16th President, noting that he was the president of technology for his day. Lincoln held a patent as an inventor, was a railroad booster (and corporate lawyer) and was always keenly interested in new war tech as he led the union to victory.

Illinois GOP Follies: Establishment vs Reform in Champagne County

-By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois is drowning in debt and corruption. The state ranks as the worst state in nearly every category vying only with California for the worst-of rankings. The biggest factor in its downfall is the corrupt Democrat Party. So one would think that the state GOP could make good headway against this corruption. Unfortunately, the establishment GOP is in utter disarray. Worse, the establishment GOP fights to deep six any candidate from its own ranks that might offer reform and we have yet another story illustrating this fact in the 52nd District State Senate race in Champaign County.

The primary race in the 52nd is between the early announced John Bambenek(photo left), a long-time reform advocate, and establishment GOP candidate Alan Nudo, both of Champaign.

Bambenek is a well-known reform advocate and even wrote a book titled, “Illinois Deserves Better.”

For his part, Mr. Nudo, a 63-year-old Champaign County Board member, has in the past supported local tax hikes. He also was keen on securing stimulus spending for big government-style construction projects in his district.

But that isn’t all. Mr. Nudo has also had a hand in donating the single largest non-PAC donation to the incumbent Democrat Senator in the 52nd District!

Rep. Roger Eddy- Total Tax-Paid Compensation of $283,520 Plus

When our Freedom of Information Requests are fulfilled regarding his government health benefits and his accumulated “bank account” of unused sick days, we will update our analysis. We anticipate his annual compensation will exceed $300,000.

For the past 30 years, Roger Eddy has served in public education. Beginning as a teacher and coach, he has lived his new American Dream.

For the past 16 years, Eddy has been the superintendent of rural Hutsonville School District Unit 1. For the past 9 years (2003), Eddy has also been an elected Republican State Representative. The median Hutsonville household income is $32,500. Located four hours south of Chicago, it’s situated in the Wabash River Valley of East-Central Illinois.

Roger Eddy is a poster boy example of Illinois public greed…

Illinois Values Voters Forum: Rep. Joe Walsh, State Rep. Morrison, More

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Saturday morning, Dec. 3, I attended an event put on in Carpentersville, Illinois by Allen Skillcorn. The Illinois Value Voters Forum was billed as a forum on social issues, but it was also a great opportunity to have a nice friendly chat with several Illinois politicians on a variety of issues, not just those “values” issues we generally associate with social conservatism.

Results of Straw Poll Below the Fold

The Panel

Panelists included 8th District Congressman Joe Walsh, 54th District State Representative Tom Morrison, former State Rep Penny Pullen (currently of the Life Advocacy Research Project), and Bruno Behrend who was on hand to represent Adam Andrzejewski’s Open The Books Portal Project, a website where you can learn how much your public officials are making off the taxpayers. Along with the panel above, quite a few local officials and candidates in the hunt for the GOP nomination in their district also came out to meet and greet attendees.

Allen Skillcorn introducing Rep. Joe Walsh

Rep. Joe Walsh and Bruno Behrend

The first question posed by moderator Skillcorn was “when does life begin,” a common enough question for the values crowd. Ever the rebel, Congressman Walsh went on a ten-minute discussion on why we need to change Congress to GOP control and why we need to send “the right kind of Republicans” to Washington. But, after the stump speech, he did answer the question: “at conception,” of course.

The rest of the panel generally agreed with that, but I’d like to dwell a bit on Walsh’s stump speech. He reminded us of the fiscal disaster that this nation faces and he said that we should not forget that “the Republican Party helped us get here and we have to say that forcefully and respectfully.”

But Walsh saw a “revolution” stirring with the Tea Party and the 2010 midterm vote, one that has “only just started.”

Illinois CAT Dealer: Illinois’ Worst Business Climate Getting Worse

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Wednesday I attended a “government day” event at Patten Industries, a 78-year-old Illinois Caterpillar dealer situated in Elmhurst, a northwest suburb of Chicago. The event, led by current General Manager Garrett Patten, featured a discussion on the severely unfavorable business climate in Illinois and why the state is lagging so horribly behind the leading economic indicators of every surrounding state.

Patten Industries has been guided by four generations of Pattens, the company having been founded by B. C. Patten, Sr. in 1933. But Illinois has not been good to the company or its employees over the last decade or so. Unfortunately, the company has gone from employing some 700 employees in 2006 to only about 400 today due to the harsh economic climate in the Land of Lincoln.

This contraction is most certainly not something the Patten family wanted to see happen to their long-standing Illinois-based company. Patten Industries has faced a whole host of negative forces causing them to scale downward. And Patten is just one of many Illinois businesses facing the same problems — problems faced in much less severity by businesses in other nearby states.

Even as many corporations are just starting to see an upturn in their fortunes, Illinois government has set up so many hurdles to growth that other states are either taking our customers or even welcoming Illinois businesses themselves as new residents.

Garrett Patten says that at least three major problems face Illinois businesses. Workman’s comp, labor unions, and corporate taxes.

Gov. Quinn Appoints Muslim Linked to Terror Groups to State Advisory Council

-By Warner Todd Huston

(Apologies, but we had a server switch yesterday and we lost the whole day’s worth of posts.)

Recently Illinois Governor Pat Quinn announced the formation of the Illinois Muslim American Advisory Council, a group that will somehow “ensure” that Muslim American concerns are taken into account in state government. Among those appointed by the Governor to this board is ISNA Secretary-General Safaa Zarzour, a man who has been linked to organizations that fund Islamist terrorism.

Zarzour is known as a supporter and member of the Muslim Brotherhood, a group well known for pushing extremist Islamism and for funding terror throughout the world.
