Walsh Proposes Indexing Congressional Salaries to Median Household Income in the US

From the Walsh for Congress campaign (8th District)…

(Grayslake, Illinois) – 8th District Republican Congressional Nominee Joe Walsh today promised that, if elected, he would introduce legislation to tie the salaries of members of Congress to the median household income level in the United States.

Rank-and-file members of Congress make $174,000 annually. According to the Census Bureau, the median household income in the U.S. is $50,233 (2007).

Scott Lee Cohen, Independent Run for Ill. Guv?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Could it be? Could Scott Lee Cohen be roaring back to politics so soon after being thrown off the Democrat ticket in disgrace?

I don’t know about you, but this blogger is crossing his fingers and toes in hopes that it could be true. Oh, LORDY make it true. I mean, why not, eh? What fun it would be.

For those that don’t quite remember the dim days so long ago last February, Scott Lee Cohen won the Democrat primary to take the Lt. Gov. spot on the Dem. Ticket. But no sooner was he celebrating his big win when the Chicago Old Media finally started to research candidate Cohen only to discover that he had all sorts of unsavory legal and criminal allegations in his past. There was the beating he gave his prostitute girlfriend, the assault with a knife… well, let’s just say that things were a bit messy in his recent past. Once the Dems found out about his past the whole Democrat establishment rose up to demand that Cohen quit his campaign for Lt. Gov.

Well, as he headed for the door Cohen promised that he’d try for office again someday. Apparently, he’s considering that someday should be today. Several sources are reporting that Cohen would like to run for Governor as an independent this year.

Congressman Eric Cantor Visits Chicago and Praises Bob’s Campaign

From the Dold for Congress campaign (10th District)…

Virginia Congressman and House Minority Whip, Eric Cantor, came to Chicago on Sunday 4/18 to meet with friends of the Pro-Israel Community. Congressman Cantor is the highest-ranking Jewish member of Congress. Bob first had a chance to talk with Congressman Cantor on Sunday night, at a Republican Jewish Coalition program in Skokie. Prior to the event, Bob, Congressman Cantor, and two of the area’s other Republican congressional candidates met privately to discuss the various issues impacting Israel’s security. The program that followed included remarks from Congressman Cantor, to an audience of 250 people. During his speech, the Congressman spoke glowingly about Bob and his campaign, and urged those in attendance to work hard to get Bob elected.

Bill Brady ‘Blogger Coffee’ Epic Fail!

-By Warner Todd Huston

As the kids on them Internet tubes say, it was an epic fail. GOP Gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady held what was claimed to be a “blogger coffee” in a restaurant in Rosemont on April 17. Three whole bloggers showed, one of which is closely connected behind the scenes to GOP movers and shakers. In other words this was not a “bloggers” anything, but just another closely controlled Brady campaign event facade that amounted to nothing.

In attendance to “meet” Brady was Bill Baar of Bill Baar’s West Side, Fran Eaton of the heavily connected Illinois Review, and a writer for NBC Chicago’s The Ward Room Blog.

As the Ward Room notes,”there wasn’t any coffee, and there were only three bloggers.”

Rep. Roskam: GOP Not the Party of No, the Party of ‘No, How About This?’

-By Warner Todd Huston

On April 19, House Republican Whip Eric Cantor and Illinois Congressman Peter Roskam joined Fox News Chicago to talk jobs and the economy. The anchor brought up the claim made by many in the chattering classes that the GOP is just the “party of no.” Roskam had a great come back for this dismissal of the GOP’s principled stance against Obama’s socialist-like attack on our political system.

Walsh Speaks with More Than 500 on Illinois’ Manufacturing Industry

From the Walsh for Congress campaign (8th District)…

(Oakbrook Terrace, IL)– “Illinois manufacturers are job creators, wealth creators, and they are the sector that will lead the economic recovery in Illinois,” said Republican challenger Joe Walsh on Monday afternoon while speaking to representatives from some 500 manufacturing companies at Metals Services Institute conference.

14th District, Hultgren: The Momentum is Shifting!

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

Great news from the campaign trail!

This week non partisan political analyst Stu Rothenberg came out with his latest House race rankings, and he’s moved Rep. Bill Foster’s seat closer to the Republican column, calling it a “Pure Toss Up!”

Additionally, thanks to the huge outpouring of support from around the district, our campaign had its best fundraising quarter yet!

Hultgren Moves 14th District to ‘Pure Toss-Up’

-By Warner Todd Huston

According to the Rothenberg Political Report, the race in the 14th Congressional District is now a “pure toss-up” in a political climate in which 44 seats have been moved in favor of Republicans while only 4 have moved in favor of Democrats.

Currently, the 14th District is represented by Democrat Bill Foster who took the seat formerly held by Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert. The Republican candidate for the 14th is Randy Hultgren, currently the State Senator for the 48th District.

Hultgren won the primary pretty handily by defeating Ethan Hastert 54% to Hastert’s 45%.

Hultgren graduated from Wheaton Academy in 1984 and from Bethel University in 1988, Magna Cum Laude. He earned his doctorate degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1993. He’s been both a state rep as well as a senator in Springfield since 1998.

Mitt Romney Wrote the Obamacare Book

-By Warner Todd Huston

It looks like Mitt Romney is trying to be the GOP front runner for 2012. But he is one of the main influences for Obama’s socialist takeover of America’s healthcare system. Watch this video and remind yourself why we need to eliminate Mitt Romney from any possibility for being the GOP nominee for President in 2012.

There is NO difference between Romneycare and Obamacare. None. And in 2012 the only way we’ll win the White House away from Obama is to run against Obama. With Mitt Romney as our nominee that will be utterly impossible and he will cause us to lose in 2012.

Romney needs to be eliminated as a possibility for the GOP in 2012.

Sam Adams, Andrew Breitbart, and Me: The Third Annual Sammies Awards, a Report

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Sam Adams Alliance, a free-market think tank that specializes in encouraging new media, held its third annual Sammies awards in beautiful downtown Chicago last Friday, April 16. This year the event hosted a visit by the Wall Street Journal’s John Fund and featured a keynote address by media maven Andrew Breitbart. And somewhere in the back of the room was little old me, your humble correspondent, there to report on the events of the night.

The Sammies are given to outstanding bloggers, community activists and purveyors of traditional American freedoms all of whom come from humble beginnings. Whether a frustrated mom, a put-upon property owner, or a school teacher that started a blog that ended up holding governments to account, the Sammies awards are intended to encourage citizen journalism, citizen activism, and organizing to affect our governments.

The Chicago Cultural Center, formerly the Public Library

This year’s event was held in the Chicago Cultural Center, formerly the building that housed the Chicago Public Library. The diner was beautifully laid out right under the famous stained glass dome created for the building by Tiffany’s of New York in 1897. We gathered beneath this great glass dome that is the spectacular feature of the Preston Bradley Hall of the Cultural Center.

Cook County Commissioner Peraica at the Chicago Tax Day Tea Party

Cook County Commissioner Tony Peraica produced this video of his attendance at the Tax Day Tea Party event held in Daly Plaza, in beautiful, corrupt downtown Chicago!

Tony is right to mention the “corruption tax” we in Crook County pay every day. Let’s hope that in November of 2010 these tea party efforts will help bring about the real hope and change that this country needs.

Congressman Pence Ridicules Dems Claims of Being Tax Cutters

Congressman Mike Pence (R, IN) just can’t keep a straight face when recounting the hypocritical statement by Pelosi’s Democrats that they are tax cutters in this era of Obama.

I have to say, I couldn’t stop from laughing at the Democrat’s lies, either. Obama and Pelosi are responsible for the largest tax increases in U.S. history! It just goes to show that they really do think Americans are stupid.

Melissa Bean’s Washington Math Doesn’t Add Up for 8th District Families

From the Walsh for Congress campaign (8th District)…

(Grayslake, IL)– Incumbent Rep. Melissa Bean is fond of calling herself a “fiscal conservative.” If only it were true.

According to a new study by the nonpartisan Heritage Foundation, thanks to big spenders in Congress, the federal government will spend $31,406 per household in 2010 – the highest level in American history (adjusted for inflation). In fact, government spending has increased by $5,000 per household (or nearly 25%) since 2008 alone.

10th District, Dold for Congress: We Can Do Better

From the Dold for Congress campaign (10th District)…

It is once again Federal income tax season in the United States and this April is a reminder of the problems we face. For a large number of Americans, 2009 represented a year during which many made less than in previous years compared to their expenses. Yet we worked harder than ever and made sacrifices to meet the obligations of both our families and our nation. But those in Washington, DC who are charged as responsible custodians of our tax dollars have not met our sacrifice with the same diligence and seem disconnected from the reality of what it takes to earn those dollars. We now find ourselves facing the reality that we may be the first generation of Americans who leave to our children a country worse off than the one we inherited. We cannot and will not accept this. We can do better.

2nd District: GOP’s Isaac Hayes Gets City News Endorsement

From the Hayes for Congress campaign (2nd District)…

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of City News. This endorsement by a community paper sends a strong message that the status quo is unsustainable. Empty promises and political corruption have persisted for too long at the expense of economically distressed communities. Illinois 2nd District needs new leadership, new ideas and a new face.”

8th District, Walsh: Jobless Recovery? Only if Melissa Bean Gets Her Way

From the Walsh for Congress campaign (8th District)…

(Grayslake, IL)– In yesterday’s Wall Street Journal, former Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich offered a fairly pessimistic view of any potential recovery from what he referred to as “The Great Recession”.

Since the start of the Great Recession in December 2007, the economy has shed 8.4 million jobs and failed to create another 2.7 million required by an ever-larger pool of potential workers. That leaves us more than 11 million jobs behind. (The number is worse if you include everyone working part-time who’d rather it be full-time, those working full-time at fewer hours, and people who are overqualified for the jobs they’re in.) This means even if we enjoy a vigorous recovery that produces, say, 300,000 net new jobs a month, we could be looking at five to eight years before catching up to where we were before the recession began.

From the Ratowitz for Congress campaign (5th District)…

David Ratowitz, Republican Candidate for Illinois’ 5th Congressional seat, to hold Town Hall on the heels of speaking engagement at TEA Party Rally.

U. S. Congressional Candidate, David Ratowitz (IL – 5), states “The so-called health care bill is a radical change in 17% of the United States economy. Anatomy of Leftist Unreason

-By Warner Todd Huston

I found a reply on my ChicagoNow blog that is so emblematic of the essential anti-Americanness of the left in our country that I thought I’d explore it in a full post instead of just replying to it on the original page on which it appeared.

The comment was oozed out by some extremist named Tom Degan, a blogger whom I’d never heard of before. Apparently he has his own blog on the Google-owned Blogspot system. (No link love for Tommy, look for his blog yourself) He is himself utterly inconsequential, of course, but his reply on my blog was a prosaic leftist rant, devoid of inventiveness, that was quite typical of the unhinged left. It really a sort of non-sequitur to the post on which it appeared, and its content was pretty much just your average, every day, simple-minded, left-wing boilerplate, but it is what passes for “thinking” on the left, so it stands as a good example of the left’s folly.

Mr. Degan started with this paragraph:

More Between Candidate Isaac Hayes and Mayor of University Park

-By Warner Todd Huston

A few days ago I related an incident between Republican candidate for Congress Isaac Hayes and the Mayor of University Park, Alvin McCowan. Hayes claimed that Mayor McCowan freaked out on him at a recent networking event and kicked him out of a public place after Mr. Hayes had been scheduled to appear there. Apparently, though, the incident is still roiling.

Mayor McCowan is still name calling and mouthing off about this whole thing, it seems. The Hayes campaign released a message from McCowan that shows how much of a creep McCowan is. It starts with punk-act name calling and race baiting, too. What a cretin.

Someone is so desperate for news that the fabricated messages persist. So I suppose Hayes’s white campaign leaders can just come into UP and be disrespectful and talk to the mayor in a disparaging tone and that’s suppose to be acceptable. Then they use the Black press to bring down real Black leaders who have not sold out as Hayes has just to try to get elected. Another Allen Keyes. Stop being blinded.

Glad this race-baiting jerk is taking the high road, eh? Sheese. And this guy is an elected official!

Washington Post Ombudsman Misses Point

-By Warner Todd Huston

Today, in his guise as the Washington Post’s ombudsman, Andrew Alexander posted a discussion about the recent misreporting by the Old Media about the various “incidents” that supposedly occurred between the admittedly raucous tea party protesters and members of Congress in Washington, D.C., during the healthcare fight. But while Alexander finally makes some admissions on how the Old Media dropped the ball on these exaggerated reports, he still missed the point of the whole mess.

Alexander starts his report off with an interesting rhetorical style. He writes about incidents as if they actually happened even as he admits later down the page that either they didn’t or might not have. He recounts the supposed incidents in affirmative language instead of using qualifiers. “The Post and other news organizations had reported a series of incidents so ugly,” Alexander says, “they were denounced by congressional leaders of both parties.” Notice how he didn’t use qualifiers like “alleged incidents”? No, he said “reported on incidents” as if they were actual incidents that have been proven. If someone were to stop reading after the first few paragraphs they’d go away thinking those “incidents” were confirmed and true.

Has the Republican National Committee ever Fired its Chairman? You betcha!

-By Michael Zak

In 1864, the GOP relabeled itself the “National Union Party” in an effort to attract moderate Democrats in support of President Lincoln’s re-election. To reach out even further to Democrats, the convention dumped the Republican vice president, Hannibal Hamlin, from the ticket and replaced him with a Democrat, Andrew Johnson. The man most responsible for this tragedy was the chairman of the Republican National Committee, Henry Raymond.

A former lieutenant governor, Raymond had founded The New York Times. He won the chairmanship by arguing that Republicans should shift toward the Democrats. To that end, he convinced the national convention to nominate a Democrat as Abraham Lincoln’s running mate. Like his namesake, Andrew Jackson Johnson rose to prominence in Tennessee. The only southern senator not to go with the Confederacy, Johnson seemed a good prospect for postwar reconciliation, but instead of being a moderate, President Johnson turned out to be a hard-line Democrat. And, one of his strongest supports was the chairman of the Republican National Committee, Henry Raymond.

Bill Brady Still Leading in Polls

GOP Gubernatorial Bill Brady is still leading Gov. Pat Quinn 45 to 38 percent even as all the media wags keep claiming that Brady is “too conservative” to win in Illinois.

Brady appeared on Fox News Sunday…

As to the so-called “Mr. Republican,” former Governor Jim Edgar, this man is no Republican and never was. He’s the supreme RINO that should simply go away. He hasn’t held office for over a decade at this point and his left-wing counsel is not wanted.

The Dregs of American Society Meet at Another Anti-War Rally

Imagine the body odor at this thing!

Flag burners, hypocrites, hippie wannabes, terror supporters, Taqiyya-pushing, Islamic terror loving, anti-American cretins, and the average and generally uninformed, hate-filled leftists… you know, the kind that fills the Democrat Party… the kind we’ve all met that lean to the anti-American left? You know, those kind that are just like every Democrat? Yeah, here they are for your viewing enjoyment…

Notice that communists and socialists proudly display their signs among these sort of human debris? This video is in stark contrast to anything you’d find at a Tea Party protest. There you’ll find true patriots. Sure they are mad at what is going on in the U.S. today but they don’t despise their country like these creeps in this video do.

The Breast… uh, Best… of ‘Chicago Republicans’

-By Warner Todd Huston

A tempest in a tea pot has roared into Chicago and this time it edges toward the risque. Riling the tongue cluckers is a website called Chicago Republicans which featured a post that ostensibly was to be about taking John Edwards and Bill Clinton to task for their exploitation of women. But the text of the post isn’t what is raising eyebrows. The photo accompanying the blog post shows some very healthy… er… lungs, if you will, of a very pretty woman.

The post titled The Female Century vs The Hetaerae Century & The John Edwards “Affair” features an artsy photo by Russian photographer Vyacheslav Potemkin of nude model Natasha Volkova and has tongues wagging all across the nets tonight. The post was written by Lumi Boldovici a Romanian immigrant and blogger at the Chicago Republicans site.

Southside Mayor Kicks Out Republican Candidate from Event for Being… Republican?

-Warner Todd Huston

Looks like the good mayor of University Park hates the American system so much that he refuses to allow Republican candidates to attend events in his town even when they are invited by the event hosts. I wasn’t aware that a mere mayor had such dictatorial powers in the United States of America, but apparently Mayor Alvin McCowan thinks he does.

McCowen, a heavy contributor to 2nd District Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. (D, Chicago), was incensed that Reverend Isaac Hayes attended a networking-styled event in “his” town recently and threw a childish hissy fit while demanding that candidate Hayes be thrown out of the venue. Hayes is the Republican facing Congressman Jackson in the upcoming 2010 elections.

Candidate Hayes just released a press release on the incident:
