From the Walsh for Congress campaign (8th District)…
(Grayslake, IL)– Incumbent Rep. Melissa Bean is fond of calling herself a “fiscal conservative.” If only it were true.
According to a new study by the nonpartisan Heritage Foundation, thanks to big spenders in Congress, the federal government will spend $31,406 per household in 2010 – the highest level in American history (adjusted for inflation). In fact, government spending has increased by $5,000 per household (or nearly 25%) since 2008 alone.
And Rep. Bean has been there every step of the way voting to spend money we simply don’t have to: bail out politically-connected businesses; protect full employment for the public sector unions; and expand entitlements.
This is half of the problem.
Here’s the other half: the federal government will collect $18,276 per household in taxes.
This may be news to Rep. Bean, but it is not possible to balance the federal budget when the government is spending $31,406 per household and taking in $18,276 in revenue per household.
The difference of $13,130 represents this year’s staggering budget deficit per household, which, along with all prior government debt, will be left for our children to pay.
Walsh is running for Congress because, like 8th district families understand, Walsh knows the math doesn’t add up. He knows that this fiscal recklessness is unsustainable, and the debt load we are putting on the shoulders of future generations is immoral.
Rep. Bean’s answer is to raise taxes; to take more and more from fewer and fewer.
Joe Walsh knows we have to dramatically reduce spending by reforming entitlement spending and rolling back new entitlements like Obamacare we simply cannot afford.
Walsh also knows we need to reduce tax burdens to spur economic growth. While Rep. Bean was voting for billions of dollars in tax hikes on small businesses, Walsh has proposed to extend the 2001 and 2003 federal income tax reductions, reduce the corporate and capital gains taxes, and eliminate injurious taxes like the federal estate tax and the Alternative Minimum Tax.
“Runaway federal spending and ever-escalating tax burdens are strangling our economy,” said Walsh. “We will lose our country if we don’t bring fiscal sanity to Washington.”
Rep. Bean cannot make her math work and her big government, tax-and-spend policies are putting 8th district families out of work.
The truth is, we cannot afford more spending and higher taxes and that means we cannot afford Rep. Melissa Bean in Congress.
