Talker Jerry Doyle Replaces Michael Savage on Talk Radio Network

-By Warner Todd Huston

Talk Radio Network has finally announced who will be replacing the recently departed Michael Savage as the network’s 3PM to 6PM conservative talk radio host. That man is TRN’s Jerry Doyle.

Noting that the network “owns no stations” and that its stable of hosts have to “earn their keep ” by garnering syndicated affiliates, TRN promises radio stations that Doyle will be “eminently saleable.”

Today begins the first in a series of changes to bring talk radio firmly into the 21st century. For too long, we’ve had to choose between ratings and salability, but no longer. Today the 6th largest syndicated talk show in America replaces what was the 3rd largest show, and in so doing, stations will get more light and less heat, a show that they can sell locally with pride, but also a show that will respect its stations, advertisers and audiences with a brilliance that sets great shows apart from good ones.

Doyle will debut on nearly 300 stations, a bit fewer than Savage as some stations have already made their own changes since Savage left the airwaves last month.

The Official Trailer for the New Film ‘Hating Breitbart’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Here is the official trailer for the new film Hating Breitbart.

The film’s director, Andrew Marcus, took a year or so out of his life to follow media mogul Andrew Breitbart around with his camera to chronicle the swashbuckling, new media crusader as he daily slammed the Old Media and led a new conservative movement until his untimely death this year.

I feel blessed to have personally known Andrew (our one-on-one dinner in Mexico was quite a night) and I am also sort of amused that I actually appear in this film.

(To see the trailer, be sure and click closed the ad that appears in the middle of the screen. Then the trailer will continue.)

NBC To Put Lefty Willie Geist on Today Show

-By Warner Todd Huston

Close on the tail of news that NBC Today show host Matt Lauer has suffered severely in popularity polls since the network unceremoniously dumped co-host Ann Curry, there are now reports that MSNBC panelist Willie Geist is being brought into the show’s third hour and will be an occasional substitute for Lauer on the venerable morning show.

Willie Geist has of late been a member of the panel on MSNBC’s Morning Joe program but his contract is coming to an end in September. Now Geist will join Natalie Morales, Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie in the third hour of the daily broadcast.

While known for his affable on-air demeanor, Geist is, of course, just another left-wing TV talking head.

Separated at Birth: Rachel Maddow and Convicted Criminal Cameron Douglas

-By Warner Todd Huston

For a little Saturday fun, were these two people separated at birth?

Check out these photos of Cameron Douglas and Rachel Maddow and you decide.

Douglas is the convicted criminal son of actor Michael Douglas and grandson of famed actor Kirk Douglas. In 2010, Douglas was convicted of possession of drugs and sent to prison for a five year sentence.

Maddow is the host of MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show.

Rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd Denounce Then Support The Confederate Flag

-By Warner Todd Huston

After forty some years of prominently featuring the Southern Cross flag of the old Confederacy as part of its schtick, suddenly the southern rock band Lynyrd Skynrd is denouncing the banner claiming it is a symbol of racism.

Sole surviving original band member, Gary Rossington, explained why the band was dumping its long-time use of the Southern Cross flag (often mistakenly called “The Stars and Bars”) in an interview with CNN’s Fredricka Whitfield in an episode of the cabler’s Face to Face entertainment segment.

It became such a issue, you know, about race and stuff, where, we just had it, in the beginning because we were southern and that was our image back in the 70s and late 60s because they kinda branded us from being from the south so we showed that.

But I think through the years, you know, people like the KKK and skinheads and people have kind of kidnapped the Dixie or Rebel flag from the southern tradition and the heritage of the soldiers, you know, that’s what it was about. And they kinda made it look bad in certain ways. So, we didn’t want that to go to our fans or show the image like we agreed with any of the race stuff or any of the bad things.

Bandmate Johnny Van Zant went on noting that they all grew up “loving the old Blues artists,” and other black musicians and they “just didn’t want to be associated with that particular (racist) thing.”

Conan O’Brien Mocks Serious Question to Obama

-By Warner Todd Huston

Apparently, Late-night comedian Conan O’Brien thinks asking the President of the United States a serious question is something to ridicule. Or maybe it wasn’t the question, but just the fact that it was a well-known conservative that posed the rather inoffensive query.

As President Obama has allowed but one puffball interview after another, avoiding all the serious questions he can, he was nonetheless asked a rather mild, but serious question by Elisabeth Hasselbeck of ABC’s The View.

But the gall of someone actually asking a serious question of the President was too much for O’Brien to bear.

“Who the hell’s Elisabeth Hasselbeck?,” O’Brien demanded to know.

In Mocking Undecided Voters SNL Misspells ‘Responsible’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Saturday Night Live made an error just as it was making fun of voters that are so stupid that they are still undecided about this coming presidential election and it doesn’t seem that the error was part of the joke.

The segment was set up as a fake Public Service Announcement, one featuring the confused ramblings of the “Low-Information Voters of America.”

These “low-information voters” were clueless about the whole election, so stupid that they didn’t even know who was currently president and if women were allowed to vote.

All in all, a fairly funny little faux PSA.

But the error, unless it was supposed to be part of the joke, comes in at the end of the video. There, at the bottom of the screen you’ll see a “claimer,” the sort you’d see at the end of a PSA that tells the viewer who is claiming responsibility for the ad.

After NBC Dumps Ann Curry, Matt Lauer’s Popularity Rating in Freefall

-By Warner Todd Huston

Matt Lauer was once one of the most popular hosts of the Today show, but two months after NBC execs fired co-host Ann Curry, Lauer’s “Q Score” has taken a major hit.

Since last year, Lauer’s Q Score has fallen 25 percent according to the survey used to rate products and media personalities.

“Is it only 25 percent? Because it actually feels much worse,” Lauer told the Daily News.

Today show insiders claim that Lauer is being “unfairly” blamed for the abrupt firing of Ann Curry in June, but at the time there were many reports that Lauer was unhappy with co-host Curry and that their personalities didn’t mesh.

Ratings for the once powerful Today show have been shaky since Curry took over as co-host in 2011, but even after Curry was fired and Savannah Guthrie took her spot, ratings have continued to slide.

Obviously the way NBC handled the firing of Curry has done serious damage both to the Today show and to Matt Lauer’s popularity.

Rupert Murdoch’s Son, James, to Take Expanded Role is US

-By Warner Todd Huston

James Murdoch, son of famed media mogul Rupert Murdoch, is poised to take over News Corp’s U.S. Television holdings just as a new report in Britain criticizes his stewardship of holdings in the UK.

It has been reported that James Murdoch is about to take over full responsibility of Fox Networks Group, which includes the Fox broadcast TV network, and cable channels such as FX and National Geographic, but not the Fox News Channel.

But as news of possible new responsibilities in America broke, James was criticized heavily by a report put out by Ofcam, an independent agency responsible to set regulations for the communications industry in the UK.

SyFy Channel Loves Union Protesters, Hates Those Darn Company Owners

-By Warner Todd Huston

One of the biggest hit series on the science fiction cable channel SyFy is Warehouse 13, a show where federal agents traipse about the country recovering “artifacts” that have dangerous, other worldly powers. But on Monday’s episode, the show indulged a few real world, left-wing political tropes by slamming capitalism, praising unions and attacking southerners.

[Spoiler alert]

The plot of the show centered around the recovery of an “artifact” hidden somewhere in a West Virginia steel mill that is undergoing a union strike.

Naturally, as soon as the agents get to the steel mill, they are immediately suspicious of the steel mill’s owner and they interrogate him as if he is an obvious criminal just because, well, he is a business owner, after all. Naturally, the owner character is played as a dismissive, jerk. Because, well, he’s a business owner.

Instead of Watching Embassies Burn Obama Watches Football Last Weekend

-By Warner Todd Huston

We are told that President Obama watched a lot of football this weekend. I guess it was more fun than attempting to deal with our embassies burning in the Middle East and our soldiers being killed in Afghanistan.

The newsflash is courtesy of Amy Gardner’s twitter feed. Gardner, the White House reporter for the Washington Post, reports that the press gaggle on Air Force One reported that Obama spent his time watching football.

President Obama didn’t watch SNL season opener this weekend; watched a lot of football, per Josh Earnest on AF1 gaggle.

Must be nice to take time away from the pressing duties of being president to relax and watch a little football. But one wonders when this president actually takes time to undertake any of those pressing duties between golf, football, bowling in the White House bowling alley, and flying about the country for daily fundraising events?

Actress Kyra Segdwick On Hollywood’s Mistake: Ignoring Midwest

-By Warner Todd Huston

Actress Kyra Sedgwick might be tempting fate in Hollywood with a recent interview on the Tavis Smiley show on PBS where she scolded her industry for ignoring the great middle of the country.

Sedgwick was on the show discussing her recently concluded series The Closer on TNT and noted that the show was a great hit in the Midwest, but not in L.A. or New York City. At first she said she felt insulted at this ratings truth, but it wasn’t long before she realized that this wasn’t a bad thing at all.

She told Smiley that she came to feel that Hollywood was making a mistake to ignore everything outside New York and Los Angeles.

“I think that there’s a … huge difference,” Sedgwick said, “between what people politically believe and what interests people in Los Angeles and what interests people in New York, and what they believe politically [in the rest of the country] … and I think to ignore that is really cutting yourself out of a huge part of your population that I feel… they’re under-represented, and I think that was the great thing about [The Closer series].”

Vogue Editor Pants: Bill and Hillary are the ‘World’s Greatest Parents’

-By Warner Todd Huston

So, not only was Bill Clinton officially the first black president, now he can add another great plaudit to his resume. According to Vogue magazine’s contributing editor Jonathan van Meter, Bill, along with wifey Hillary, might just be the “world’s greatest parents” because of how they raised daughter Chelsea. So they have that going for them, which is nice.

This slobbering sycophancy all came tumbling out during an interview with van Meter conducted by CNN’s Ashleigh Banfield aired on CNN on the morning of August 15.

As the subject turned to Clinton progeny Chelsea, van Meter really poured out the syrup.

I think one of the things the Clintons will go down in history for, it may very well being the world’s greatest parents. I mean, they did such an incredible job of protecting her from the likes of us, basically, and it’s an amazing thing that she’s decided to step out finally and do this.

Well, since he lost out for world’s greatest husband due to that whole serial adultery thing, I guess being the world’s greatest parent is a good runner up, isn’t it?

USA Today’s Olympic Fantasy of an All Female Country

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Olympics is usually a time of a country to express pride in its athletes, all its athletes. But not for USA Today. No, USA Today thought it would be interesting to imagine if our female athletes were “their own country.”

In its post Olympics coverage, USA Today wasn’t happy enough that America’s female Olympians were big winners in London. For USA Today, Kelly Whiteside went to fantasy land.

U.S. female athletes have done more than their fair share, winning 27 of the team’s 41 gold medals so far. To put that accomplishment in perspective: If the U.S. women were their own nation, they would be third in the gold medal count.

“I’ve been thrilled to see how well U.S. women have done,” said Kayla Harrison, a gold medalist in judo. “It feels amazing to be a part of something so much bigger than myself; I definitely feel connected. To be able to say I’m a strong confident young woman and an Olympic champion is amazing, and I hope we have a million young girls inspired right now.”

The same holds true for China, as women have won 20 of that country’s 37 gold medals.

We are in such a politically correct era that a major newspaper can’t be happy that a nation’s athletes, both its male and female athletes, did well at an international sporting event without separating the sexes.

So, What DOES It Take to Get Fired By CNN, Fareed Zakaria?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Just before Mitt Romney’s pick of Wisc. Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate, CNN commentator Fareed Zakaria got himself in a spot o’ trouble when it was discovered that he had plagiarized a piece he wrote for TIME magazine. He also posted the same plagiarism at CNN.

As Friday wore on, CNN and TIME both went from “no comment” to suspending Zakaria, a journalist praised for his perspective on foreign policy. But why was he not fired outright? What does it take to get fired in the lefty media?

In any case, as we await Zakaria’s final journalistic fate this is a good time to remind readers of just how far left Zakaria is. As a journalist he’s always been a reliable left-winger and he is most especially known for his anti-Jewish sentiment.

Here are just a few examples of his bias:

Olympian Lolo Jones Scolds NYTimes for Not Supporting Our U.S. Olympic Athletes

-By Warner Todd Huston

U.S. Olympic Hurdler Lolo Jones was slammed by The New York Times as a woman of little accomplishment, a flimsy girl not sufficiently woman’s libby enough, one that is all show and no go and during an August 8 appearance on NBC’s Today, the hurdler broke down in tears wondering why the U.S. media was so ready to tear competitors down instead of supporting our U.S. Olympians?

For the Times, longtime sports writer Jere Longman seemed to think that Lolo Jones’ image of beauty and grace was a strike against women’s lib. “Women have struggled for decades to be appreciated as athletes,” he said in an August 4 editorial. But Jones has gotten a lot of notice “based not on achievement but on her exotic beauty and on a sad and cynical marketing campaign,” he carped.

Devastating Youth Parody Song: ‘The Obama That I Used To Know’

-By Warner Todd Huston

You may be aware of the horrid song by Gotye called Somebody That I Used to Know. It is one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard. But that’s just me. Millions love the thing and it became quite a hit last year. It is so popular that many parodies of it have been posted to Youtube.

A pair of Harvard graduates got into the Gotye parody business, too, and their parody takes on Barack Obama in a most effective and devastating way. It ridicules the overly emotional high of “yes we can” and “hope and change” and reveals through the lyrics what a farce, a lie, a faux ad campaign Obama’s 2008 run for the White House really was.

The best line in this parody: “…but the change I got was that I moved in with my mother.”

If you can stomach the crappy tune that the parody folks were forced to use by choosing the Gotye song, this is a great video. Enjoy…

Actor Will Smith Loves Taxes, But NOT French Taxes

-By Warner Todd Huston

Back in May Actor Will Smith recently appeared on a TV show in France when the subject of taxes was brought up. Smith piously proclaimed how he loves taxes because he wants to help his country. But then he was told how much new French President Francois Hollande wants to levy on France and, well, suddenly taxes weren’t so great as far as Smith was concerned.

You see, President Hollande has proposed that anyone that makes over a million Euros should pay a tax rate of 75%. This made Will Smith practically choke.

Will Smith: I have no issue with paying taxes and whatever needs to be done for my country to grow. I believe very firmly that my ability to sit here—I’m a black man who didn’t go to college, yet I get to travel around the world and sell my movies, and I believe very firmly that America is the only place on Earth that I could exist. So I will pay anything that I need to pay to keep my country growing. . . .

Interviewer: Do you know how much in France you would have to pay on earnings above one million euros [under new French President Francois Hollande’s proposal]? Not 30%. 75%.

Smith: I… not 30, 75?! Yeah, that’s different, that’s different. Yeah, 75. Well, you know, God bless America.

Smith’s reaction is priceless, really. He was all about paying his fair share until the socialist French decided that his fair share should be 75%!

Hilarious.

Lifetime’s Army Wives: Domestic Terrorist is Über Patriot?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Lifetime’s Army Wives has often walked up close to anti-American plot lines without stepping too far over the line, but this weekend’s episode crossed right over into the left’s famous — and famously bogus — favorite storyline: turning patriotic Americans into villains.

This is one of the far left’s favorite plot lines. Hollywood loves turning patriots into whacked out, enemies despite the fact that in real life such a thing is extremely rare.

In the episode aired on August 5 entitled Centennial, a wacko “patriot” planned to shoot an Army general to right the wrongs of a country gone bad. The mad man felt that the nation was being destroyed by the un-American activities of the government and in a computer recording he said he intended to strike a blow for true Americanism by killing the general.

The episode featured a cliffhanger ending typical of the series. It ended with the shooting scene the results of which will be resolved next week.

The entire plot is based almost solely on the actions of one domestic terrorist. When Timothy McVeigh brought down the Murrah Federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995 he was linked to the Militia movement and said to be desirous of taking down an out of control government. McVeigh was portrayed as an unhinged, über patriot gone awry.

Wash Post Imagines Non-Existent ‘Questions About Gun Violence’ at Olympics

-By Warner Todd Huston

The headline of the Internet version of a Washington Post story about the shooting sports at the Olympics asserts that “even at the Olympics” the Olympians face questions about gun violence. Yet, upon reading the article, it is clear that the author of the piece is saying that none of the Olympic contestants have been confronted with such questions at all, at least not from anyone in the Olympics.

The headline of the piece reads, Even at the Olympics, Athletes in the Sport of Shooting Face Questions About Gun violence. But as you read it, what is clear is that only the media are pestering the Olympic Shooters with such questions. The contestants said no one actually in the Olympics, no fellow Olympians, have asked any such questions.

The print version carries a different headline that isn’t much better: Shooting: Athletes Battle for Titles — and to Dispel the Stigma of Gun Violence.

CNN Cries Over Rebuke by Romney Aide in Poland

-By Warner Todd Huston

CNN wants us to feel sorry for it. More specifically CNN reporter Jim Acosta wants us to feel sorry for him. It was Acosta who said on a July 31 broadcast that the behavior of Romney’s aide in Poland was “really inexcusable” and “sort of unprovoked.”

In case you missed the furor of the Old Media, while visiting Poland’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Pilsudski Square, various members of the press following Romney on his overseas trip began to scream out questions at the candidate as he made to leave the memorial. This loud disrespect for the somber atmosphere of the memorial prompted Romney’s traveling press secretary, Rick Gorka, to interject, dressing down the media and even cursing at them.

As reporters from CNN, The New York Times, Politico, and the Washington Post screamed out questions, Gorka sternly asked them to “show some respect.”

Head-To-Head: FBN’s Dobbs Beats CNBC’s Kudlow

-By Warner Todd Huston

At the end of June I noted the ratings success that Fox Business Network had over CNBC and that only Larry Kudlow was still beating FBN in the ratings. Now, for the first time, Kudlow lost the ratings battle, at least for one month.

For the month of July, Lous Dobbs Tonight hit the big time.

NEW YORK, Jul 30, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) — FOX Business Network’s (FBN) Lou Dobbs Tonight beat CNBC’s The Kudlow Report in the coveted advertising demo of persons aged 25-54 for the month of July, according to Nielsen Media Research. The victory marks the first monthly win for the 7 PM/ET program, anchored by Lou Dobbs, since launching in March 2011.

For the month of July, Dobbs achieved a 10 percent advantage over CNBC with 43,000 viewers in the demo to Larry Kudlow’s 39,000. In total viewers, it was a close race with Dobbs earning 148,000, just shy of Kudlow’s 158,000. FBN is available in roughly half as many homes as CNBC and this is the first time a program has won the month in the advertiser friendly demo since launching in 2007.

FOX Business Network (FBN) is a financial news channel delivering real-time information across all platforms that impact both Main Street and Wall Street. Headquartered in New York–the business capital of the world–FBN launched in October 2007 under the leadership of FOX News Chairman & CEO Roger Ailes and is now available in more than 60 million homes in major markets across the United States. Owned by News Corp, the network has bureaus in Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, DC and London. On the web at http://www.foxbusiness.com.

It is a milestone for Fox Business Network, for sure. Larry Kudlow is a great talent, for sure, but this news shows that Fox Business Network is a force to be reckoned with, for sure.

C.S. Monitor Wonders if Every Romney Campaign Ad is ‘Racist’

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Christian Science Monitor apparently thought it was doing the country a public service by laying out rules by which to judge whether or not a Mitt Romney ad is “racist,” but in its five questions to ask yourself about Mitt Romney’s ads, the magazine essentially laid out criteria that makes any ad Romney has done or even could do into a racist attack on Barack Obama.

In fact, the C.S. Monitor begins with the premise that racism must naturally be a prime Romney tactic against Obama. The campaign will be racist, the authors in the Monitor say. “It’s not a matter of whether racism will appear in campaign messaging, but when,” they write.

What the authors then do is indulge that famous left-wing practice of saying that everything whites do — this time in politics — is either outright racism, purposeful yet veiled racism, or subconscious racism. In other words, everything is racism no matter what.

For the Monitor, professors Charlton McIlwain and Stephen M. Caliendo also insist that blacks are never racist in their campaign efforts, another lefty trope popular in the world of academia.

Ice-T: Guns the ‘Last Form of Defense Against Tyranny’

-By Warner Todd Huston

I’ve always wondered how the African American community could possibly support strict gun control considering its past history with government authorities both in our past and modern times. Well, at least one prominent African American, rapper and actor Ice-T, is speaking out in favor of American’s Second Amendment rights.

In a visit to sell his latest film project, Ice-T appeared on Channel 4 TV in London, England with host Krishnan Guru-Murthy. The appearance just happened to be only hours after the mass murder in Aurora, Colorado and host
Guru-Murthy thought he’d query the rapper on his thoughts on guns in America.

As it happens, Ice-T, the self-described “Godfather of Gangsta Rap,” was not in the least apologetic for American’s rights to self defense.

TNT Series: Motherhood, Marriage is ‘Miserable’

-By Warner Todd Huston

TNT Cable network chose to ridicule motherhood, motherhood activism, marriage, and large families all at once on its latest episode of the cop-dramaedy series Rizzoli & Isles. The episode showed once again the disdain with which traditional motherhood and marriage is viewed in the entertainment industry.

On the July 17 episode two well-known psychologists are murdered setting the stage for the investigation. The heroes of the show, Rizzoli, a police detective, and Isles, a medical examiner, discover that the victims are advocates of childless families and had a history of activism against childbirth. Naturally, the first suspect the police in the show light upon is a woman that featured the anti-child psychologist on her pro-motherhood website.

The police look over this motherhood advocate’s website to find that her organization is called, Women Are About Kids. Yes, the acronym is WAAK, because, well, you know, anyone that is pro-family is whacked, right? The website also features a cross-hairs targeting symbol over the face of the murdered anti-child psychologist. Because, well, you know, all those violent conservatives use crosshairs on their enemies.

ABC’s Kimmel Calls Palin ‘Crazy Moose Lady’

-By Warner Todd Huston

From the mouth of Jimmy Kimmel, the late night comedian that said it was impossible to make fun of President Obama because he was too “cool,” comes the hilarity that Sarah Palin is a “crazy moose lady.” This was so hilarious that CBS This Morning had to replay it hours later on its morning show.

Not only did Kimmel slam Palin — who really has not been much in the news of late and is not a factor in this presidential campaign — he also used his joke to slam GOP candidate Mitt Romney as somehow worse than Palin, a claim that no one is making, not even Obama’s people. This shows how extreme Kimmel is, really.

Adding to a news account of Mitt Romney’s release of tax returns during his 2008 run for the GOP nomination, Kimmel joked, “Romney actually did back in 2008. McCain took one look at him and said, you know what? I’m going with the crazy moose lady instead.”
