Idiot Ohio Congressman Bans, Confiscates Devices at Townhall

I go after the left all the time for opposing free speech and for doing its best to shut down citizens, especially at townhall events. Well here is an example of a Republican doing the same thing. His actions are those I’d instantly condemn were it a left-wing Democrat (but I repeat myself) perpetrating it. And so, I similarly condemn Rep. Steve Chabot (R, OH 1st District) for acting the jackbooted authoritarian at his recent townhall.

In fact, it’s such an outrage that I am going to reference a ThinkProgress.org report on the matter and, shock of shocks, agree with their basic point! Chabot was wrong to do this.

Fearing pushback on issues like ending Medicare and corporate tax dodging, Chabot took an extraordinary step in order to prevent a possible “Youtube moment”: he banned constituents from filming the town hall. Outside the town hall were multiple signs reading, “For Security Purposes, Cameras Are NOT Permitted.” In fact, on at least two separate occasions, middle-aged constituents who tried to record the public event had their cameras confiscated and were asked to leave.

Even worse, it was members of the Cincinnati Police that Chabot impressed to do the confiscating. Shades of jackboots, eh?

Chabot had “reasons,” though.

Chicago’s Marilyn Monroe Stature: From the Windy City to the Tacky City

I finally made it downtown to see the absurd Marilyn Monroe statue that sits in Pioneer Court, the public mall area next to Tribune Tower on Michigan Avenue near the Chicago River. I have to say it is as tacky in person as it seems in photos. Moreso, maybe.

The paean to Marilyn Monroe’s famous sewer grate scene in the movie “The Seven Year Itch” went up in early July. It was created by New Jersey artist Seward Johnson and portrays Monroe as she stood above the sewer grate, dress flying in the air, face in that patented Monroe look of ecstasy.

To me, however, it resembles not so much a sculpture as it does a cheap kewpie doll-like, carnival prize. Unfortunately, it isn’t kewpie doll sized but is so big at 26-feet-tall that you can’t simply dismiss it as mere kitsch.

In fact, he ran against current Governor Rick Perry for the Guv’s chair so when it comes to Perry’s bid for president, one might expect that the Kinkster has something to say about that. Well, he doesn’t disappoint.

Friedman has run for office several times — never won — and in debates was the straight talking “Jewish cowboy” that everyone loved to hear go off on a rant. He’s a singer and writer and entrepreneur (He even has his own line of cigars) for a living, but he really made an interesting name for himself in Texas politics…

Lee Roupas is now the Retiring Cook County GOP Party Chairman and that means the race is on. It looks like we have at least three people with their hats thrown in the ring to succeed Roupas.

The most well known is Ruth O’Connell, currently a Republican committeeman of Wheeling Township as well as an elected Township Trustee not to mention the main power behind the Republicans of Wheeling Township.

Ruth has been a tireless organizer of the Wheeling area and has built a very active GOP organization. Due to her work, the Wheeling area has won a lot of weighted votes in the Cook County GOP organization. In fact, her township has the highest GOP weighted vote of any other township or ward in the county.

I have to say, I am very interested in this project. It’s a Harrison biopic movie. No, not William Henry Harrison. Not even Benjamin Harrison. It’s George Harrison, the Beatle.

I have always been more fascinated by “the quiet Beatle,” George Harrison, than the others. I also like his music far better than John Lennon’s. I have most of Harrison’s solo albums, but not many of John’s solo work.

Harrison’s music was much more complex than both Lennon’s and McCartney’s, I have always thought. And Harrison developed a very distinctive sound, too. His last album, “Brainwashed” is very fun.

Obama Tries to Spin Out of Responsibility

In one of the most galling attempts in history to politically reposition a failing presidency, President Barack Obama and his Hyde Park, Chicago Progressive machine handlers have launched a new propaganda campaign meant to absolve him of any blame where the failure of his administration is concerned. Instead the “Obamanation” is attempting to branding “Congress” and the “political system” as the culprits. Forget about hope and change. Forget about any dreams his Father may or may not have had. This is audacity at its most egregious.

Throughout his political career Mr. Obama has been no stranger to the practice of throwing once crucial-now dispensable allies “under the bus.” We first saw it with Bill Ayers and Rev. Jeremiah Wright. He then graduated to tossing whole demographics in his continued failure to address specific campaign promises to activist groups, i.e. anti-war groups, gay and lesbian groups, Black advocacy groups, community organizing groups, etc. Now, those who have put their careers on the line for his agenda – whether it was for Obamacare or for the failed stimulus – find themselves in the President’s opportunistic crosshairs. Mr. Obama is throwing his Progressive and Democrat allies to the wolves in a transparent and insincere attempt to tack to the center.

A few days ago I wrote a post on my own site saying that the Obamas travel like South American dictators. Well, here is more evidence of this. Recent reports find that Michelle Obama alone has spent over $10 million of “Obama’s stash” — or rather $10 million of our tax dollars — just on vacations for herself and her kiddos.

Rush Limbaugh calls her “Moochele Obama” and that is starting to look like an apt handle for the wife of the biggest spender in Washington. With her trips around the world, her stays at luxurious 5-star resorts and hotels, her many shopping trips, she is looking more and more like the biggest mooch in presidential history.

Yet, where is the press to lambaste Moochelle Obama? Scolding first ladies for their spending of the people’s tax dollars on baubles and trips is a long tradition in the American press corp. As far back as Dolly Madison the press has attacked presidential wives for spending. Mary Lincoln was mercilessly slammed for buying china, housewares, and dresses during the Civil War. As recent as Ronald Reagan’s era the press slammed FLOTUS Nancy for her spending. Yet, Moochelle gets a pass? Imagine that, the sold-out press not criticizing The One OR his wifeypoo…

Obama’s Newest Way To Let Unions Avoid Disclosure Rules

Obama and his union-sold Department of Labor has spent the last three years trying every legal trick, and some merely arrogant ones, to help unions get away with criminal behavior. Obama has especially been working to get his union patrons out of having to declare their financial information to the government like businesses have to. This month, Obama’s DOL is implementing yet another transparency dodge for his union backers.

In an effort to further protect Big Labor, Obama’s Labor Sec., Hilda Solis — herself a life-long union activist — is about to announce a change in the definition of what an employer is so that it excludes unions that employ workers for their own offices and the like.

The original Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (LMRDA) has a pretty sensible definition of what an “employer” is. In essence, pretty much anyone that has employees is sensibly enough an employer.

But John Lund, Obama’s head of the Office of Labor Management (OLM), wants to change that definition to exclude all unions and labor consultants that themselves have employees. Why? Because if an employer is deemed not to be an employer then they don’t have to disclose information in new financial reports being demanded by changes in regulations implemented by the Obama regime.

Far as I’m concerned they stopped making rock-n-roll in the late 1970s. But you do have to feel sorry for the pop singer with this latest Twit-troversy she is facing for having had the temerity to support Israel on her Twitter account after this latest round of Islamofascist terrorism that she has suffered.

One of Perry’s fans had tweeted to her about the suffering of Israel and asked Perry to pray for them. Perry responded saying, “I am! My prayers are for you guys tonight, SHALOM!!”

Well, you’d have thought that the singer had tweeted that she was hoping to kill a few puppies tonight because after her tweet one so-called Palestinian, Muslim, leftist, progressive, and terror supporter (but I repeat myself) after another took to their own Twitter accounts to attack Perry for offering prayers for those killed by terrorists in Israel…

No Spark: The Unanswered Questions of the Chevy Volt

Every time we turn around these days President Obama is touting the idea that the “future” of America lies in green energy and one of those greenie ideas is an Obama favorite: electric cars. Not to let him down, Government Motors has obliged by pushing the Chevy Volt as the car of the future. But thus far the future looks a lot like GM’s present; a whole lot of failure leaving a whole lot of questions.

While Obama continues to tout his — meaning our — investment in GM others are not so sanguine. For instance, billionaire Warren Buffet has invested in a Chinese electric car company instead of putting his considerable investment acumen to use with the Chevy Volt. Buffet may be a dolt on taxes, but apparently his investing senses haven’t gotten any spark from the Volt.

One of the reasons that Buffet went for the Chinese company is that some of its technology seems superior to various systems of the Chevy Volt. According to Forbes, Buffet has targeted the company because the, “car can travel 186 miles, more than the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt, on a single charge with a top speed of 87 miles per hour.”

Let’s hope this isn’t just another bad Hollyweird attempt to be “relevant” about today’s issues by garbling history and imposing modern sensibilities on people that have been dead for a hundred years.

Most Americans have no clue that we fought a vicious 4-year war in the Philippines at the end of the Spanish-American War (1899 – 1902). It was marked by misunderstandings and atrocities on both sides. Hostilities even continued for years after the “official” end of the war.

The action was part of the era when most major western nations engaged in all sorts of imperialist endeavors to enlarge their territories and their power on the international scene. The US was no different in the quest for power in those days — well, maybe a little different — but our country quickly soured on imperialism and never embraced the concept like the European powers did.

Uncouth and Unpatriotic: Obama/Biden Attacking America While Abroad

There used to be a saying that “politics ends at the water’s edge.” This meant that carping about the opposing party or engaging in political mud slinging ended when a politician entered in a foreign land. This policy was recommended because presenting a united front abroad was thought a good idea. Unfortunately, the uncouth Obama administration is more interested in low-born attacks than in national unity as is evidenced by both the president and the vice-president’s actions abroad.

They saying was made famous during the Cold War by Senator Arthur Vandenberg (R, Mich). Vandenberg had an epiphany in 1945 that carried him from the isolationist wing of the Republican Party to the internationalism of FDR and by 1947 Vandenberg had created the saying because he became a chief ally in the Senate of the Truman administration even though he was in the opposing party. He felt, and many came to agree with him, that members of an administration, the Senate or the House should leave their criticism and political maneuvering home when they visit other countries. To attack political opponents while abroad undermined our country in the face of foreigners.

It was good advice that most have followed since 1947. Until the brat in the White House and his grinning jackal of a VP got to Washington, that is.…

Time Mag Movie Review: G.W.Bush and Rick Perry Just Like Blood Thirsty Conan The Barbarian

Did you know that Texas Governor Rick Perry and President George W. Bush are just like the fictional, prehistoric, sword-wielding, mass murderer, Conan the Barbarian? Well Time Magazine entertainment reporter Richard Corliss is here to inform you all about it in his review of the new action movie released this week based on the Robert E. Howard character. What is it with these people that they have to bring their hatred for Republicans into their reviews about films that have nothing whatever to do with politics?

It is clear that Corliss is not a fan of this flick, for sure. And he mixes metaphors and abuses sayings to beat the band to show his disdain. But it is his second, non-sequitur-filled paragraph that goes for Perry’s and W’s throats. Corliss features this attack prominently in the second paragraph of the review so that no one will miss it.

Corliss describes how at the beginning of the movie a young Conan watches his entire family slaughtered in front of him. To Corliss, this seems somehow “kind of like” the way Saddam Hussein plotted to kill George W. Bush’s father, H.W. Bush.

By analyzing the assets each state has available and all of its bills, the Institute was able to determine a ‘Taxpayer’s Burden’ for all fifty states. Click here to download the full report.

The Institute’s extensive research found most states are sinking in debt, despite the existence of a balanced budget requirement in all but one state. The Institute identified the top five ‘Sinkhole’ states each with a per taxpayer burden of more than $23,000. These are Connecticut, New Jersey, Illinois, Hawaii and Kentucky. Wyoming, North Dakota, Nebraska, Utah and South Dakota are considered ‘Sunshine’ states, because a per taxpayer’s surplus or minimal per taxpayer’s burden exists in these states.

More Dem. New Tone: Of Obama Lies and Epithets At Tea Partiers

Yes it’s that vaunted new age of Obama, folks. You remember; the one where we were all going to walk into the sunset, hand-in-hand, being all nice to each other because politics had gotten “too divisive”? You know, that new tone that the Democrats insisted that the ascendancy of Obmaa meant for the country. Yeah, the one where Obama and his administration underlings simply lie outright about Republicans and where Democrat Congresscritters tell Tea Partiers that they can “go straight to hell.” Yeah… THAT new tone.

Let’s start with the always loquacious Maxine Waters. This queen of ignorance was pretending to act all bold and everything by saying she reused to be intimidated by the Tea Party movement. In her eloquent, lady-like manner she said, “This is a tough game. You can’t be intimidated. You can’t be frightened. And as far as I’m concerned, the ‘tea party’ can go straight to hell.”

Sadly, neither Maxine Water, Obama nor Arne Duncan care much about the truth. After all, they have a country to downgrade….

Union Astroturf Pretends Like Tea Partiers to Attack GOP

The Hill has an interesting, if not a bit slanted, report about the faux grassroots efforts of unions and left-wing advocates to pretend they are somehow just like the Tea Party by attacking the town hall meetings of various GOP congressman across the country this Summer.

The Hill dutifully reports without complaint the union’s claims that they are organizing just like the Tea Partiers and forcing GOP congressmen to face “angry protests at home” this month in a “replication” of the Tea Party backlash that “bit” Democrats in 2009.

“Liberal groups have been planning these protests for months,” trumpets The Hill, “One organizer told The Hill in February that the campaign would ‘build to a crescendo’ in August.”

These protests have been organized by Obama’s supporters in government unions like the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the AFL-CIO as well as far left NGOs such as MoveOn.org, Campaign for America’s Future and others.

Obama STILL Giving Obamacare Waivers out to Pals and Unions

We just had to have Obamacare, we were told. It was the best way to keep all Americans healthy, they claimed. Without Obamacare, we are not a fit place to live. In fact, if you stand against Obamacre you are a hatemonger that wants everyone to die. Yep, that’s what we were told. So if Obamacre is so great, why has Obama given 1,472 of his best friends’ companies a waiver so that they can be excused from suffering under some aspects of Obamacare like the rest of us?

Obama and his cohorts have told us that the best thing for the country is to eliminate private insurance, make doctors all government employees, and take away our choices in healthcare with a single payer system. Yet, even as he’s is telling us we don’t deserve to be allowed to choose our own type of helathcare services and should be forced under Obamacare, he’s giving his buddies in the unions and other donors a free ticket out of Obamacare…

Top Ten Richest Members of Congress: Only 3 Are Republicans?

OK, what’s the deal, here? I thought all the rich folk was s’possed to be Republican? But in Roll Call’s list of the richest members of congress we find that the top ten is stuffed mostly with fatcat Democrats. Only three Republicans made the top ten richest list.

Gosh, what happened to the left’s meme?

Democrat Senator John Kerry has in the past been the richest fellow in congress, but he’s slipped to third place these days. The top two richest now happen to be Republicans, though. Texas Rep. Michael McCaul and California Rep. Darrell Issa take spots one and two respectively. But the next Republican doesn’t show up again until the tenth spot. All the rest of the top ten are Democrats.

Obamas Travel Like South American Dictators

Presidente Obama es muy importante. He must be. He travels like a South American Dictator instead of a president of a democratic nation. Sacrifice is so for the little people, ya know?

Let’s take his latest of his many, many vacations. His loverly wife, Michelle, had the government fly her via helicopter and a government jet to their rented vacation estate at Martha’s Vineyard ahead of time so that she could luxuriate for a little longer. Bad enough, of course, as she could have just waited until hubby Barack was ready to go.

But el Presidente Obama upped her by taking TWO helicopters AND Air Force One to make the 500 mile journey.

In order to hold our government accountable – and ensure they are spending our tax dollars wisely – citizens must have access to public information.


Unfortunately, too many local government agencies across Illinois have viewed proactive online transparency as a privilege rather than a right. Many elected officials have lost sight of the fact that, as citizens, taxpayers and voters, “we the people” are the bosses of government, not the other way around. But, with the work of the staff of the Illinois Policy Institute, our volunteers and forward thinking government officials, things are beginning to change in Illinois.


Last week the village of Orland Park became the first Illinois local government agency to score a perfect 100% on our Ten-Point Transparency Checklist, Orland Park is setting an example for other communities to follow and building momentum for statewide local government transparency standards like the Local Government Transparency Act. John Kerry’s Swift Boat Supporter Has Silver Star Revoked

Remember all the hub bub of the Swift Boat story during the 2004 presidential run of Democrat John F’n Kerry? Well with all that in mind, you might vaguely recall a certain Captain Wade R. Sanders, Kerry’s military colleague and heavy supporter of the would be president from Massachusetts. Well, in a very unusual move, this “hero” of Viet Nam has just had his Silver Star award revoked by the Navy.

Captain Sanders was the most outspoken member of Kerry’s “band of brothers” coterie of veterans that came to his support during his run for the White House. Sanders even introduced Kerry at the Democrat Convention that put Kerry’s name before the American people as a candidate for president. Sanders trained with Kerry at Naval Base Coronado when the pair were sent to Viet Nam as Navy Swift Boat officers…
