Cancer Patient Who Lost Policy Can’t Afford New Obamacare Policy, Will Just Die

-By Warner Todd Huston

For being a law that was supposed to be “saving lives” because of the “emergency” of our healthcare system, Obamacare sure is killing a lot of people. Take Bill Elliott, for instance. He has cancer and used to have insurance that was keeping him alive. But now, thanks to Barack Obama, he’s lost his healthcare and cannot afford its Obamacare replacement. So, he figures he’ll just have to die.

Looks like “death panels” to me. How about you?

Mr. Elliott went on the Megyn Kelly show last week to inform the nation that Obama has given him a death sentence.

Judge Jeanine Slams Obama: ‘Many Up Mr. President, Give Me a Damn Waiver!’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Fox News’ Judge Jeanine Pirro is so flabbergasted by the mess that is the Obamacare website rollout that she recently wondered if a groundhog had advised the administration to dive back into their hole and put the thing off for another six weeks of bleak Obamacare winter.

Pirro slammed Obama for giving the nation a six-week reprieve on Obamacare because, as the administration says, “we are confused” about Obamacare. She goes on to slap Obama for claiming it is we, the people, who are at fault for the disaster that is Obamacare.

Then she amusingly asked where Obama got his “six more weeks” of putting off the law using a clip from the movie Groundhog Day to ridicule the arbitrary decision to make it six weeks.

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews Hopes for ‘Killing’ Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly

-By Warner Todd Huston

And now for another episode of the more caring, more grownup, more tolerant left who… hopes to kill their political enemies. This episode stars MSNBC’s Chris Matthews who hopes that soon we’ll see “killing O’Reilly.”

Matthews appeared on a recent broadcast of the satirical political interview show, The Colbert Report, where the pseudo host Colbert was discussing Bill O’Reilly’s books with MSNBC’s extremist, ranter Chris Matthews.

O’Reilly has penned two books about assassinated historical figures, one titled Killing Lincoln and another titled Killing Kennedy. So, naturally, Matthews hoped that we’d soon be seeing a book about killing Bill O’Reilly!

Now, there is the more caring, more adult, more tolerant left we’re used to, eh?

You know what is really sad, though? Believe it or not, Chris Matthews was once a respected author and journalist. Seriously. He was. Now he’s just a clown that no one can take seriously.

Now, imagine how the left-media would have lost its tiny collective mid if a conservative or Republican had gone on the air and hoped to see some lefty killed?

The story would have crowded out tales of the shutdown in minutes.

Fox’s Dennis Kucinich Interviews Bashar al Assad

-By Warner Todd Huston

Former Progressive Congressman and now Fox News contributor Dennis Kucinich has interviewed Syrian dictator Bashar al Assad. The interview aired on Fox on Wednesday night, September 18.

Introducing the interview, Fox’s Bret Baier told viewers that the interview was Kucinich’s idea, that the former Congressman made the arrangements with Assad himself, but that the network insisted that Kucinich conduct the interview with a full-time Fox reporter–choosing senior foreign-affairs correspondent Greg Palkot. Baier then assured viewers that the interview was held without any restrictions on the sort of questions the pair could ask Assad.

Geraldo Rivera Loses Speaking Gig Over Semi-Nude Selfie

-By Warner Todd Huston

Back in July, Fox News personality Geraldo Rivera posted a nearly nude photo of himself (a selfie, as the kids call it) on Twitter and reaped a whirlwind of condemnation. He may have thought it was behind him until this month when he learned that he lost a speaking engagement at a Catholic University over the image.

Geraldo was scheduled to speak at an upcoming October panel at Duquesne University to talk about the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s assassination.

Duquesne is a Catholic institution and found it wasn’t amused at the 70-year-old’s lack of modesty by posting a nearly nude photo of himself for all to see.

In a statement about the withdrawal of the invitation, Duquesne’s spokeswoman Bridget Fare said:

Fox News Announces Its First Ailes Junior Reporter Program Journalist for Chicago

-By Warner Todd Huston

In 2011 Fox News started a new program to encourage young journalists to enter the field and one of the first graduates from the program is going to be based right here in Chicago.

Garrett Tenney will serve as a correspondent for Chicago, so we here in the Windy City would like to welcome the young man to the grind.

Of the two-year program, Fox News chief Roger Ailes said in a recent press release, “I created this program with the hope of developing young and promising talent. I am greatly encouraged by the successful results of the previous two years and look forward to cultivating our next group of junior reporters.”

“The Ailes Junior Reporters Program gives participants the opportunity to learn all aspects of newsgathering including shooting, producing and editing stories, as well as on-camera reporting,” Fox says of the program in a press release. “Additionally, hands-on guidance during each step of the process is offered from both FNC management and the network’s seasoned journalists, including Shepard Smith, Bill Hemmer and Harris Faulkner.”

Facebook Blocks Fox News Reporter Starnes Over ‘Politically Incorrect’ Gun Post

-By Warner Todd Huston

Todd Starnes of Fox News reports that Facebook blocked his postings because he posted support for the National Rifle Association (NRA), Paula Deen, Chick-Fil-A, and Jesus on his page.

The blocked comment was a snarky commentary on several news stories. It ended up eliciting hundreds of replies and likes before Facebook deleted it leaving a warning message.

In place of Starnes’ page, Facebook posted a message that read, “We removed something you Posted, We removed this from Facebook because it violates our community standards.

“I’m about as politically incorrect as you can get,” read Starnes’ Facebook entry before it was deleted. “I’m wearing an NRA ball cap, eating a Chick-fil-A sandwich, reading a Paula Deen cookbook and sipping a 20-ounce sweet tea while sitting in my Cracker Barrel rocking chair with the Gather Vocal Band singing ‘Jesus Saves’ on the stereo and a Gideon’s Bible in my pocket. Yessir, I’m politically incorrect and happy as a june bug.”

Facebook has since admitted that it was a “mistake” for blocking Starnes’ Facebook page and has re-instated his access and posting privileges.

Facebook sent Starnes a message explaining its actions.

Public Trust in Newspapers Falls to New Lows

-By Warner Todd Huston

A new poll on newspapers and television news shows that Americans’ confidence in the news industry continues to erode in this era of mass communications, reaching a low not seen since 2007.

The Gallup polling firm finds that trust in newspapers has fallen to 23 percent. This is down from 25 percent in 2012 and 28 percent in 2011.

The previous low was recorded in 2007 when trust in newspapers reached 22 percent.

Trust in newspapers has undergone steady erosion since its 1979 high of 51 percent, Gallup reports.

Television news fares no better in the estimation of those polled by Gallup. Trust in TV news tied that of newspapers with 23 percent saying they trust TV news sources. This is down from a 1993 high of 46 percent–when Gallup first began asking about it.

CBS’s Scott Pelley Thinks Fox News Has Few Viewers

-By Warner Todd Huston

In a recent interview, CBS Evening News host Scott Pelley said that he thinks that Fox News really doesn’t have very many viewers–underestimating the network’s actual ratings by about 90 percent.

Pelley told Deadline Hollywood that Fox might have perhaps as few as “200,000 viewers.”

Deadline asked Pelley what he thought of the cable news outlets that cater to “just one segment of the political spectrum in their reporting.”

“Certainly. It’s no surprise,” Pelley replied. “Fox is associated with the right and MSNBC is associated with the left and they’ve done that because it is a business model. It’s a strategy. They’ve decided to bite off one small part of the viewership and be happy with that 200,000 viewers, 300,000 viewers that they have.”

Fox News’ Eric Bolling: ‘I Was Audited by IRS’ After Criticizing Obama

-By Warner Todd Huston

During the May 14 broadcast of Fox News’ “The Five,” panel member Eric Bolling announced that he feels he was audited by the IRS after criticizing President Obama.

As Bolling told the panel, “[In] 2011, I was pretty vocal against four more years of President Obama & I don t know if it s coincidence or not but I did get an IRS audit in 2012 for my 2011 tax returns. I m not sure if there’s any correlation.”

Andrea Tantaros chimed in saying, “It’s the Chicago way. [Obama] said he would change D.C. and the way they do business. Boy, has he ever.”

On Thursday, May 16, Obama demurred from appointing a special prosecutor to look into the growing IRS scandal saying that he thought the current internal investigations he’s proposed would suffice.

“I think it s going to be sufficient for us to work with Congress–they ve got a bunch of committees. Attorney General Holder announced a criminal investigation of what happened,” the President said during a joint press conference with Turkey s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoan.

Obama and his flapping-mouthed flacks keep saying with each new scandal that President Obama had “no knowledge” of any of these scandals. They claim that others are responsible and he is innocent.

He didn’t know about Benghazi, he didn’t know about the IRS’ attacks on Tea Party groups, he didn’t know of the DOJ’s violation of freedom of the press, he didn’t know… well, apparently he didn’t know of anything.

Glenn Beck: Left Fox News to Keep His Soul ‘Intact’

-By Warner Todd Huston

While accepting a media award in New York City, former Fox News commentator Glenn Beck offered a little hint as to why he left Fox and went out on his own. It was to save his soul.

Beck made this revelation to the audience at the Tribeca Film Festival where he was awarded a Disruptive Innovation Award alongside such counter-revolutionaries as shock filmmaker Morgan Spurlock and reporter Jose Vargas who made news for outing himself as an illegal immigrant.

Beck told the awards attendees that he feels TV is a dying art form, but, as Jeff Bercovici reports, that isn’t the only reason he left Fox News.

“If you stay in it too long, you become Norma Desmond,” Beck said at the Friday, April 26 awards ceremony. “I remember feeling, ‘If you do not leave now, you won’t leave with your soul intact.'”

Conan O’Brien Slams Republicans, Democrats, the Press at WHCD

-By Warner Todd Huston

Typical of when a Democrat is president, during a keynote monologue at the White House Correspondents Dinner (WHCD), the President is spared from too many mean spirited barbs. In keeping with that tradition, TBS’ Conan O’Brien poked a lot of fun at Republicans and conservatives with a bit sharper stick than he used to poke Democrats.

This year’s WHCD started with a slew of media outlets discussing the now annual slam on the event as delivered by long-time Washington reporter Tom Brokaw. The semi-retired NBC anchor has lamented for some time that the whole party atmosphere, replete with musicians and Hollywood celebrities–fittingly, this year the Duck Dynasty folks attended–makes a mockery of the seriousness of the media’s work.

After the President delivered his spiel on Saturday night, late night comedian Conan O’Brien took the stage to deliver the keynote address.

Unsurprisingly, Republicans showed up early as the comedian’s targets and naturally, even though he hasn’t been in office for over four years, now, an obligatory slam of George W. Bush as “stupid” had to be delivered.

Near the top of his address Conan mentioned the opening of the George W. Bush Presidential Library joking that the library had “Millions of books, articles and documents and if you go you can be the first to read them.”

WHCD Lauded and Bashed

-By Warner Todd Huston

The White House Correspondents Dinner (WHCD) has been a mainstay Washington to-do for years. Lately, however, it has come under fire for turning Hollywood–literally. In the wake of the event, some outlets continued the bashing but most lavished attention on the dinner or at least lauded it as harmless fun.

One of the quickest to slam the event was Sarah Palin, who did not attend. From her Twitter account, Palin indulged some rather salty language in criticism.

Britain’s Guardian newspaper was so fascinated by the whole thing, the paper set Jim Newell to live blog the night.

Newell opened his coverage with a nice slap at the pretentiousness of it all.

CNBC Copies Fox Business Network With Houston, TX Coverage

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, when I said that CNBC’s business coverage was “playing catch up” with Fox Business Network, I didn’t know how close to the truth I had it as this month, CNBC copied FBN’s coverage from last fall of the amazing growth that Houston, Texas has seen over the last few years.

Back on September 20 of last year I noted that Fox Business Network’s Melissa Francis hosted a tour of the growing Texas economy in a series of reports FBN titled “Open for Business in Houston.”

At that time, Francis told the Houston Business Journal how amazing the business climate was down in Texas.

Mark Levin On Fox’s Dana Perino: ‘I’m Sick Of The Preening, Elitist, Country Club Republicans!’

-By Warner Todd Huston

On April 2 on Fox News’ The Five, former George W. Bush press secretary Dana Perino criticized Doctor Ben Carson for appearing on too many conservative shows. This criticism sent talk show host Mark Levin into criticism of his own saying he was sick of these “preening, elitist, country club Republican(s).”

Ben Carson is the newest star in the conservative firmament and he’s now entering that spot in his debut onto the scene were pundits think they know better about how he should comport himself than he does. Thus, Perino’s advice for Carson is to stop doing TV and radio and “lay low” for a while.

Why? According to Perino it’s because doing conservative talk radio is bad for his image. Already Carson has “burned through so much of his credibility,” Perino claimed.

Glenn Beck Goes ‘Wobbly’

-By Chuck Busch

To: Mr. Larry Klayman of Freedom Watch

I just received your recent newsletter in which you related what Glenn Beck said on his Internet Broadcast program concerning inane ideas about “surrender.” I was not aware of his statement as I make it a point to not tune into Glenn on the Internet or on his radio program. Initially, I thought he was doing a service by bringing out controversial information on little discussed subjects that all American’s should be aware of. However after a time, he lost believability, was let go by FOX News and his radio program dissolved into silliness. This is not a time for frivolity and jokes. It is time for a serious effort to educate a misguided populace.

I have been concerned for some time that the host of conservative commentators on radio and TV, with the exception of Rush Limbaugh, have become entirely too harsh and strident contributing to the characterization that conservatives are uncaring and cold-hearted. Anger (and we all have reason to be angry) is too strong of an emotion to sustain over the long term and it is Obama’s strategy to wear us out. Rather than engaging in a personal shouting match with our opponents, we need to meet the challenges to our liberties with a steadfastness, confidence and calmness that will convince people of the soundness of our arguments. The face of conservatism and the Republican Party must attract more listeners and entreat them to consider objectively the major issues of the day. Instead of people reacting to the personality of the talk show host, let them focus on the substance of the debate. (See article on Fox News programming by Michael Reagan titled “New Song, New Singers” March 21, 2013.)

I have already mentioned Rush Limbaugh who founded conservative talk radio and is, without doubt, the master of the trade. He has an uncanny way of being critical of the administration but doing it in a good-natured humorous manner. Ridicule can be a good weapon against these uptight liberals but only if used in a skillful way. Rush, in this post-election cycle, has also made it his objective to connect with the “low information voter” which is a brilliant strategy. The people must be convinced that the supposed benefits of a generous federal welfare state are not only corrupting, but are unsustainable and are not worth the lost of liberties that they entail. They must also learn that this administration does not have their best long-term interests are heart and it’s social and economic policies have produced this ongoing distress in all aspects of American life.

Media Attack Fox for Airing Teenage Rape Victim’s Name, Ignores That CNN, MSNBC, Others Did Too

-By Warner Todd Huston

Always looking to find some reason to smear Fox News, the website Raw Story slammed the network for airing the name of a 16-year-old rape victim in a March 18 broadcast of America’s Newsroom. But in its zeal to slap Fox, the website neglected to note that other news outlets did the same thing.

Just before noon on March 18, Raw Story reported that during Fox reporter Mike Tobin’s segment on the guilty verdicts in the Steubenville rape case that morning, the name of the victim was broadcast without being censored.

In its original piece, though, Raw Story did not point out that several other mainstream media outlets also aired the victim’s name and did so before Fox News did on Monday.

It has been a long-standing, voluntary tradition that reporters redact the names of rape victims and once Raw Story’s report began to circulate, several other websites jumped on the story to attack Fox for violating that sensible tradition.

By 2 PM that day, Huffington Post jumped on the bandwagon to slam Fox for airing the name of the victim. Not long after that, the progressive site Think Progress also moved to attack Fox over the lapse as did the left-wing site Jezebel.

Juan Williams Uses Work Unattributed, Blames Assistant

-By Warner Todd Huston

Juan Williams has had to admit that a recent column he wrote contained full sections of a report by the liberal Center for American Progress and that he failed to attribute the source.

Williams used CAP’s work, in some cases word-for-word, in a February 18 column on immigration but failed to note that the information came from the liberal advocacy group.

When Salon’s Alex Seitz-Wald initially reported the incident, Williams blamed an assistant for the omission.

On March 7, Williams said that a “young man” in his office gave him the information from the CAP report but Williams claimed he thought it was his assistant’s work and he included it in his own piece on that basis. “I had never seen the CAP report myself,” Williams said.

Perino: When Bush Admin Tried to Slam Bob Woodward, The Left Rallied For Him

-By Warner Todd Huston

In an appearance on Fox News, former Bush White House Press Secretary Dana Perino noted that when the Bush team tried to push back against Bob Woodward’s reportage it “failed miserably” because the media rallied behind the iconic reporter. Yet now, after harsh words about Obama, Woodward is being treated like a pariah by that same media.

With Bob Woodward in the news over his report that someone in the Obama administration threatened that he’d “regret” writing so harshly about the President, Fox News talked about how the Bush administration dealt with the famed Washington Post reporter.

On the February 28 broadcast of Megyn Kelly’s America Live, former Bushie Dana Perino talked of the Bush administration’s reaction to Woodward’s 2006 book, State of Denial, a book that hit Bush over his prosecution of the war in Iraq.

Perino noted that they tried to discredit Woodward’s book, but to no avail.

Students at West Liberty University in West Virginia are decrying a political science syllabus limiting their options for research source material. The students feel that the exclusion of Fox News as a legitimate source is merely an example of anti-conservative bias.

Professor Stephanie Wolfe criticized Fox News right in her syllabus and told students they weren’t allowed to use Fox News as source material. It is reported that in the class guide, Wolfe told students, “The tagline Fox News makes me cringe.”

“Please do not subject me to this biased news station. I would almost rather you print off an article from The Onion,” Wolfe wrote.

On the other hand, Wolfe told students that the Huffington Post, the BBC, and The New York Times were perfectly acceptable sources.

The next in a line of recent Fox News departures is on-air contributor Dick Morris whose contract, it has been announced, will not be renewed. The departure was reported early on Tuesday and not long after Fox confirmed that it will not be renewing Morris’ contract.

Morris spent many of his last appearances on Fox News predicting a big victory for Mitt Romney in the late presidential election. He has not appeared on the cable network since November 12.

As we know, Morris missed that prediction by quite a lot. The former Clinton operative later apologized for his misstep, but perhaps his prediction that Romney would win big was the last missed predication Fox executives could take.

Warming to Senate Bid, Geraldo Slams GOP

-By Warner Todd Huston

Geraldo Rivera recently announced on his radio show that he was considering a run as a Republican for the Senate from the state of New Jersey. But as is Geraldo’s wont, he’s already criticizing the very party whose blessing he seeks.

On Jan. 31, Rivera told his radio audience that he is “truly contemplating” a run for Senate and he wants to represent the Republican Party. But only a day later, on Fox News’ “Studio B With Shepard Smith,” he was heard criticizing the GOP as a “party of scolds” and saying it had better go back to being “the party of inclusion.”

Rivera said that the Republican Party had “drifted away from the party of business, the party of free enterprise,” and into a “party of scolds.” He went on to say the GOP has become, “The party of no, you can’t have an abortion. No, if you’re gay you can’t be married. No, if you’re an immigrant you can’t possibly think you are going to get on line to become a citizen of the United States.”

Kirsten Powers: Dems Less Tolerant of Dissent, They’re Used to Controlling the Media

-By Warner Todd Huston

On the January 23 broadcast of Fox News’ “Bill O’Reilly Show,” liberal commentator Kirsten Powers found herself agreeing with the concept that liberals are less tolerant of opposing opinions. Powers went further, though, positing that this intolerance might stem from the fact that liberals are too used to controlling the media and not being confronted by opposition.

Powers went on to say that it was “very disconcerting and unsettling” to liberals when they are confronted with ideas they don’t agree with.

During his “personal story” segment, O’Reilly brought up a study from George Washington University that found that liberals that use the Internet are less tolerant of opposing ideas than conservative Internet users. Interestingly, Powers, of the left-leaning Daily Beast website, tended to agree with those findings.

You know, I have to say this actually jibes with sort of real life experience that I have found, especially as I came into more contact with conservatives as I got older because I used to really live very much in a Democratic bubble when I worked in politics. I did find that they were much more open to sort of hearing other viewpoints, where I think liberals because they are so used to controlling all the media pretty much, academia, that for them when they hear things that don’t jibe with what they want to hear, it’s very disconcerting and unsettling to them. And it doesn’t surprise me that they’re really less interested, whereas conservatives are kind of used to it. They’ve lived in a world where pretty much, you know, the whole media has been sort of liberal.

Mimicking her liberal acquaintances, Powers went on saying, “liberals are sort of taken aback because they feel like, ‘What are you talking about? Everybody knows that what I think is right and nobody thinks differently.'”

End Times: Fox News Hires Dennis Kucinich

-By Warner Todd Huston

Fox News has hired former Congressman and outspoken progressive Dennis Kucinich as its newest on-air contributor.

Kucinich may appear across various programs on both Fox Business Network and Fox News. His first appearance was on “The O’Reilly Factor” on January 17.

“I’ve always been impressed with Rep. Kucinich’s fearlessness and thoughtfulness about important issues,” said Fox News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes in a statement. “His willingness to take a stand from his point of view makes him a valuable voice in our country’s debate.”

Kucinich praised Fox News for having given him a forum now and in the past adding, “I look forward to a continuation of our relationship this time as a Fox News contributor.”

As an Ohio Congressman and repeat Presidential aspirant, Kucinich proposed a “Department of Peace,” which was to include a new position that would be added to the President’s cabinet.

With the addition of Kucinich to its line-up of contributors, Fox News may now have the UFO-believers demographic sewn up, too. In 2007 Kucinich admitted that he witnessed an unidentified flying object in the 1980s.

Cincy TV News Calls Out PIers Morgan’s False Anti-Gun Stats

-By Warner Todd Huston

During his raucous interview with rabble rouser Alex Jones, CNN’s Piers Morgan unleashed several false gun statistics to show how wonderful his British homeland is for its gun banning ways. But Cincinnati’s Fox affiliate WXIX didn’t let Morgan get away with it thoroughly debunking the CNNer’s false stats.

With his January 8 “Reality Check” segment, WXIX’s Ben Swann completely undermined Morgan’s gauzy claim that Britain’s gun banning ways makes his countrymen safer compared to the wild west that is the U.S.A.

During the interview with Alex Jones, Morgan kept blathering about how Great Britain only had 35 murders with guns in 2011. That is compared to 11,000 murders with guns in the U.S. Morgan piously maintained that this made Great Britain’s laws better.

But Swann used real statistics to show that Morgan’s claims are misleading in general and just plain wrong in specifics.
