College Professors Lose Hours Because of Obamacare

-By Warner Todd Huston

One of my favorite stories this week is the college professors at Pennsylvania’s Community College of Allegheny who’ve had their hours cut because of the costly requirements of Obamacare.

One of Obamacare’s changes to general business practices is to make people who work 30 hours or more a “full time worker.” For generations that magic number was 40 hours a week. But now that Obamacare is forcing this change to what is considered a full-timer, businesses across the country are forced to change policies and cut the hours of employees to 25 hours per week.

This is what happened at CCAC. Part time professors, teachers, and other staffers will be cut to 25 hours a week so that these part time workers will remain part time workers and will, therefore, be ineligible for healthcare.

Naturally, some folks are mad. They think the evil taskmasters in charge of the school are violating the “spirit” of Obamacare. United Steelworkers representative Jeff Cech, who has been trying to unionize the college staff, is all upset, too.

PolitiFact’s Bias Charted

-By Warner Todd Huston

A new chart has debuted showing the stark bias that purported “fact checker” PolitiFact commits against the right side of the aisle in its attempt to separate truth from fiction in politics. The chart demonstrates how Republicans and conservatives have come in for scolding by PolitiFact far more often and with much greater virulence than have Democrats and liberals.

The chart was assembled by calculating the number of “pants on fire” awards to what PolitiFact claims are lies by our national political figures.

Click to make chart larger

As Chuck Rogers explains,

We assembled this chart by sorting PolitiFact’s complete list of “Pants On Fire” rulings. We filtered out any rulings of chain email or anonymous Facebook posts (although these were virtually all conservative viewpoints), as well as politicians or organizations who had only one “Pants On Fire” ruling (but again, even these were mostly conservatives).

The most impressive result is how PolitiFact treated Mitt Romney. His “pants on fire” awards are more than twice than that of any other politician except Michele Bachmann. And, according to PolitiFact, Bachmann herself is far and away a worse liar than any other pol besides Romney.

In Final Week Romney Coverage Increasingly Negative, MSNBC Had Zero Favorable Romney Stories

-By Warner Todd Huston

According to the latest study of the last week of the media’s coverage of the 2012 presidential election, Romney’s coverage turned increasingly negative. The worst example was that of MSNBC which didn’t have any positive stories about Romney’s campaign, not a single one.

The study conducted by the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism, showed that MSNBC had zero positive stories about Romney while its Obama coverage skewed 51% positive for the President.

Fox News also increased its negative coverage, for Obama in that case, but its coverage was not nearly so negative against Obama as MSNBC’s was against Romney. The study found that Fox News gave only 5 percent of its coverage to positive Obama stories (with 56 percent negative) while the cable network gave Romney 42 percent positive coverage (with 11 percent negative).

With all news coverage tabulated, Romney’s coverage got more negative in the final week with 33 percent of his coverage skewing negative and only 16 percent positive. In contrast, Obama got 29 percent positive coverage with 19 percent negative.

Sandy Gives Elected Officials Sky High Approval Ratings Despite Rocky Performance

-By Warner Todd Huston

Now that Hurricane Sandy is gone and east coasters have had some time to assess the performance of their elected officials it seems as if it’s high marks all around. So says a new Quinnipiac University poll released on November 20.

Apparently the lionization that the media offered to Chris Christie for his crying jags and his bear hugs for President Obama have turned the trick for east coast residents.

The New Jersey Governor in particular came in for praise from residents hit by the super storm. But even New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, and President Obama received high marks for their post Hurricane Sandy efforts.

When asked who did the better job, 36 percent of respondents said that Gov. Chris Christie did the best while 22 percent said Obama did well, and 15 percent said Governor Cuomo was best. Mayor Bloomberg came in at 12 percent on this question.

Thanks Mitt

-By Chuck Busch

I want you to know that I greatly appreciate the effort and sacrifice you made in seeking the presidency. I have been a supporter of you since the 2008 election and always believed you had a lot to offer the people of this country. History took a strange turn in 2008 and it would seem that the country got started down a wrong path that will now take extraordinary efforts to reverse. In the final analysis we have to accept that God is still on the throne and he will use whatever circumstance for His redemptive purposes. If I didn’t believe that, we would all have reason for despair.

You were an excellent candidate and ran a superb campaign. It was encouraging to hear someone articulate sound economic and national policies as well as you did. I believe you and Paul Ryan won the debate season hands down with factual and sensible proposals delivered in a confident and professional manner. As you reflect on the last year’s whirlwind events, please do not second-guess your message of limited government or think that you could have done anything different to affect the outcome. The Republican Party should make no change to its 2012 platform or compromise on social, cultural and economic issues. The contrast between the “paths” of the two parties could have not been made clearer.

New York Times: Celebrating the End of ‘Rush Limbaugh’s Country’

-By Warner Todd Huston

For his final Campaign Stops editorial November 18, New York Times columnist Thomas B, Edsall asked the seminal question left arising from the results of the re-election of Barack Obama: Is Rush Limbaugh’s Country Gone?

Beginning his piece with a quote from Limbaugh’s show where the most listened-to talker in the nation expressed his fear that “we’ve lost the country” to Obama and his followers, Edsall noted that Limbaugh’s worries “echoed a Republican theme” that was voiced before Obama’s re-election.

Barack Obama has unleashed a coalition of Americans “who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it — that that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them” — as Mitt Romney put it in his notorious commentary on the 47 percent.

Edsall goes on to agree with Limbaugh that our country has drifted decidedly in favor of big government, nanny-state ideals and away from freedom and liberty — though he doesn’t say it that way, to be sure.

Medium Protest Over XL Pipeline

-By CJ Ciaramella

[Ed. Note: These are the self-destructive lunatics we are facing with these enviro-Nazis, folks. They are highly organized and well funded and they win because the rest of us just sit on the sidelines and do nothing.]

Between 1,000 and 1,500 protesters streamed past the White House Sunday to demand President Barack Obama reject the Keystone XL Pipeline, the latest in a series of vocal demonstrations against the project.

“Hey Obama, we don’t want no climate drama,” the protesters chanted as they hoisted an inflatable mock pipeline above their heads in front of the executive mansion.

The pipeline project would stretch across eight states, running from the Athabasca Tar Sands in Alberta, Canada, to the Gulf of Mexico in Texas.

“This is the first fight in a long time that got the environmentalists out in the street and we’re gonna stay there,” author Bill McKibben told the crowd at a post-march rally.

Environmentalists say the pipeline would be a “game over” moment in their fight against climate change should it be approved…

CNN Mad at Low-Voting Obama County, Not Worried Over No-Voting Romney Counties

-By Warner Todd Huston

CNN was gobsmacked over a county in Texas that saw an extremely low voter turnout for Barack Obama in the late elections. On the other hand the several counties in Ohio and Pennsylvania that had zero votes for Mitt Romney didn’t bother the cable Network at all.

On Friday, November 16, CNN aired an “expose” of sorts about the low Obama votes that occurred in King County Texas and took their cameras south to find out why so few voters there wanted to vote for the President.

Naturally, correspondent Gary Tuchman and the CNN crew wanted to find out if everyone in King County were racist. All Mr. Tuchman’s questions were meant to elicit examples of the King County resident’s backwards attitudes and racism.

CNN was simply outraged that only 3.4 percent of King County’s voters thought well enough of Barack Obama to vote for him on Election Day. It was a travesty.

CBS and Another Obama is Lincoln Story

-By Warner Todd Huston

Sadly, the debut of Director Steven Spielberg’s epic film about our 16th President is being used by many Old Media outlets as propaganda to push the concept that Barack Obama is in the same league or, worse, is somehow just like Abraham Lincoln. On November 15 it was CBS This Morning’s turn to couple one of our most famous presidents to the current resident of the White House.

On the network morning show recently breaking in as the top rated morning program, CBS This Morning hosts Gayle King and Norah O’Donnell kicked off their Lincoln segment attempting to link Abe Lincoln and Obama by gravely wondering if there was a “lesson for Obama, now in his second term, with Lincoln?”

The pair were interviewing liberal historian Doris Kearns-Goodwin, whose book Team of Rivals was used as source material for Spielberg’s new movie.

In response, Kearns-Goodwin made the facile claim that Obama has done the same thing Lincoln did by filling his cabinet with rivals that he’d beaten for the nomination for president. This of course, is nonsense. While Obama did chose former rival Hillary Clinton as his Secretary of State, the rest of his cabinet were not serious Obama rivals. On the other hand, Lincoln appointed nearly all his most powerful rivals to his cabinet — all of whom were leading party powers of their day.

The Billion-Dollar Campaign: Obama Breaks All Time High Donations

-By Warner Todd Huston

It seems that predictions have come true that Obama’s 2012 campaign for re-election would be the first “billion dollar campaign” has come true. Team Obama is now reporting that fundraising for the 2012 campaign has exceeded that of 2008 realizing over a billion dollars in campaign donations. Online donations also surpassed levels from Obama’s first run.

According to new calculations reported by TIME, online donations raised about $690 million, up from the $500 million seen in 2008.

Once all sources are tabulated, the campaign expects to exceed that daunting one billon dollar mark.

How did he do it?

Chicago Teachers Union Co-Sponsor of Socialist Program

-By Warner Todd Huston

Now that the Chicago Teachers Union’s big strike is over they have time for other activities. Like pushing the communist idea of “social justice.” And so, the CTU is helping host a “Teaching for Social Justice” event this month.

So, some of the highest paid teachers in the country are all about “the struggle,” eh? (Media base for CTU teachers is $67,974 annually)

Of course, that brings me back to the question I sort of hinted at above: are Chicago’s teachers doing their jobs?

Buzz Feed Reporter Reveals Anti-Mormon Bigotry of Press Corps

-By Warner Todd Huston

McKay Coppins of Buzzfeed was one of the reporters in the Romney press pool during his late campaign for president. He is also a Mormon. In a long piece posted on November 14, Coppins reveals the stark anti-Mormon bigotry that his fellow members of the media openly displayed as they followed team Romney around the country.

Coppins’ report offers several interesting bits of information and even makes Mitt out to be the John Kennedy of Mormonism in that, like Kennedy, Mitt’s candidacy brought his religion out from under the shadows of suspicion and into the mainstream.

But the piece begins revealing the stark and totally casual anti-Mormon bigotry of his fellow members of the Old Media establishment.

In his first several paragraphs Coppins reveals that the other reporters following Romney constantly sniggered about his “Mormon underwear” and often made jokes about his religion when in the privacy of the press plane or on their many bus trips.

The jokes from his fellows made Coppins uncomfortable. At one point he noted he “slid down in his seat” and pretended to look at his phone to avoid eye contact with the guffawing media bigots surrounding him.

Doris Kearns-Goodwin: We Need to Excuse Affairs to Get the ‘Best People in Public Life’

-By Warner Todd Huston

In response to revelations of the extramarital affair that now former CIA Chief David Petraeus admitted to over the weekend, liberal historian Doris Kearns-Goodwin scoffed at the idea of holding highly placed public figures to account for their personal behavior.

On the Sunday, November 11 episode of NBC’s Meet The Press, Kearns-Goodwin made the point that we are too strict with our public officials and because of that we won’t get any more great presidents like Franklin Roosevelt and… Bill Clinton?

“What would we have done if FDR had not been our leader because he had an affair with Lucy Mercer? Think of the productive years that Clinton could have had if Monica Lewinsky hadn’t derailed them. We’ve got to figure out a way that we give a private sphere for our public leaders. We’re not gonna get the best people in public life if we don’t do that.”

Kearns-Goodwin also longed for the day when Americans paid little mind to the private lives of public figures.

Most Transparent President Ever Finally Has a Press Conference

-By Warner Todd Huston

Today at 1:30 PM, President Obama has deigned to hold an honest-to-goodness, question-taking press conference. I guess the President took to heart the plaintive plea of ABC’s Jake Tapper who asked Obama not to be a stranger as the Prez exited his last presser on August 20.

But that was just a walk on, guest shot, a surprise to the press. Obama’s last scheduled, solo press conference was all the way back on March 6.

Despite claiming that he’d be the most open, transparent president ever, Obama hasn’t been as forth coming with the Old Media establishment as other presidents. In fact, he’s been chided by the media since he first became president for keeping them at arm’s length.

The latest scolding Obama took over his shyness was in early in October when Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank looked up the numbers and noted that in the last four years, President Obama “has worked assiduously to avoid being questioned, maintaining a regal detachment from the media and other sources of dissent and skeptical inquiry.”

Foodstamps Surge to All Time High, Biggest One Month Growth Ever Recorded

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Obama administration has finally released its report on the number of Americans on foodstamps. This report was released nine days past its traditional release date and just coincidentally days after the election. Shockingly, those numbers show that Americans on foodstamps is at an all time high. Worse the report shows the highest one month jump ever.

You may recall that just before the election, the Obama administration announced that Hurricane Sandy was going to delay the release of October’s jobless numbers. Many watchers of politics were suspicious about the possible delay in the release of October’s unemployment figures since the proper release date was to come just before the presidential election. While the unemployment report was ultimately released on schedule and before the election, now we find out about another report, the foostamp report, delayed for nine days after its traditional release date. This report was also supposed to have been released before the election.

This report is devastating, so maybe we now know why it was delayed?

CNN Cries With Obama

-By Warner Todd Huston

CNN was quite taken with the video that Obama’s campaign put out showing the President getting a little weepy after he won his second bid for the White House. The video was “amazing,” even “remarkable” said the CNN hosts who gushed over the President’s tears. But CNN wasn’t quite so taken with GOP House Speaker John Boehner’s tears two years ago.

CNN’s Brianna Keilar was nearly emotional herself over the President’s tears saying, “So, Soledad, a remarkable moment there. And we’re just seeing this now.” CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien then replied, “Wow, ‘No Drama Obama’ gets a little dramatic and emotional.”

The pair went on at some length over the President’s display.

But, as Matt Hadro points out, CNN was not nearly as effusive with its wows when Republican John Boehner got a little teary-eyed after he was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2010.

The Name ‘Republican’ Is Damaged Beyond Repair

-By Warner Todd Huston

Fact: Millions of Republican voters did not come out to unseat Barack Obama.

Explanation: The Republican brand has been damaged beyond repair.

Solution: Is Herman Cain Right? Do we need to replace the GOP with a new party?

The Republican brand has been destroyed beyond repair. This is all something we really can blame on the Bush family in general and George W. Bush in particular. Not only do independents and moderates not trust anyone that has the millstone “Republican” hung around his neck, but even too many Republican voters themselves can no longer bring themselves to vote for members of their own party.

George W. Bush is the biggest culprit for this. His big spending and liberal governing style (No Child Left Behind, drugs for seniors, trillion dollar deficits) told Republican voters that there was no difference between Republicans and Democrats.

Now, substantively, yes there are important differences between the parties. But the perception that Bush left with his odious “compassionate conservatism ” — which was just an excuse for big government liberalism — told Republican voters that the Democrats are the party of big government while Republicans are the party for a tiny bit less big government. This is not enough of a difference to entice a vote.

If the GOP could not get out enough voters to unseat Barack Obama, the most socialist-leaning, most anti-American president in American history, then the GOP brand has been damaged beyond repair.

Fox Business Network’s Lou Dobbs Surges in October Ratings

-By Warner Todd Huston

Lou Dobbs sure had a great October. The Fox Business Network financial guru beat CNNBC’s Kudlow Report in both total viewers and that coveted advertising demo of viewers ages 25-54 according to Nielsen Media Research.

This is the first time any Fox Business Network program has won both key demos since launching in 2007.

For the month of October, Dobbs won the timeslot with an average of 172,000 total viewers, compared to The Kudlow Report which took in 169,000 viewers. In the demo, Dobbs scored a whopping 89 percent advantage over CNBC with 53,000 viewers to Kudlow’s 28,000. FBN is available in roughly half as many homes as CNBC and this is the first time a program has won the month in both total viewers and the 25-54 demo since launching in 2007.

Amusingly, you can even see Fox Business Network’s press release celebrating Dobbs’ good fortune on CNBNC’s own website.

FBN also topped CNBC during its election night coverage. FBN’s Special Report: Election 2012 topped CNBC’s Your Money Your Vote by 2% in the Nielsen ratings. Neil Cavuto’s special election coverage showed a ratings growth of 176% in the demo compared to 2008, whereas CNBC was down 13% compared to their 2008 coverage.

New York Times Says it’s OK to Destroy the Life of a Pro-Family Official

-By Warner Todd Huston

There is an intriguing letter in an advice column in The New York Times from last July. Many are wondering if this anonymous letter refers to the newly revealed extra-marital affair indulged by now former CIA Director and General David Petraeus. But a closer look at the advice the Times gives out proves that the so-called “paper of record” can’t even keep its anti-conservative agenda out of simple advice columns.

The letter from an anonymous reader is tantalizing. It sure sounds like someone describing Petraeus’ ill-advised affair.

My wife is having an affair with a government executive. His role is to manage a project whose progress is seen worldwide as a demonstration of American leadership. (This might seem hyperbolic, but it is not an exaggeration.) I have met with him on several occasions, and he has been gracious. (I doubt if he is aware of my knowledge.) I have watched the affair intensify over the last year, and I have also benefited from his generosity. He is engaged in work that I am passionate about and is absolutely the right person for the job. I strongly feel that exposing the affair will create a major distraction that would adversely impact the success of an important effort. My issue: Should I acknowledge this affair and finally force closure? Should I suffer in silence for the next year or two for a project I feel must succeed? Should I be “true to my heart” and walk away from the entire miserable situation and put the episode behind me? NAME WITHHELD

While that is quite an amazing parallel to what we now know about Petraeus, the more telling thing in this columns isn’t what the reader says in the letter. It’s the advice given that is the real shocker.

“Don’t expose the affair in any high-profile way,” The New York Times begins.

Well, that might seem sensible. But wait, there’s more. The Times violates its own advice and reveals that there is a least one reason that someone may want to out an affair and destroy the very important work of such a government official.

Biden For President in 2016… Or Maybe County Council?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Apparently Joe Biden can’t make up his mind about what to do after his term as the 47th Vice President of the United States of America is over. He’s either going to run for President (again for the third time) or he’s going to run for a spot on the county council in New Castle, Delaware.

Firstly, before the late election ended, Biden hinted that he was considering a third run for President in 2016. He ran for the Democrat nomination in 1988 and 2008, losing badly both times.

But after the election the VP backtracked a bit and joked that he’d more likely run for New Castle County Council. On the other hand, he also said that he’d make such decisions in 2016 after he’s helped Barack make a “success” out of his second term.

On Nov. 8, Biden told the Wilmington News-Journal that, “There’s plenty of time to think about 2016.”

Newsweek: Hey, Whities, You’re Old, You’re White And You’re Finished

-By Warner Todd Huston

Your days are done, white man. In its November issue, Newsweek and writer David Frum want you GOP whities to know that you’re old, you’re white, and you’re finished.

Not only does Newsweek want white Republicans to know their salad days are over (and that they are racist, no doubt), but the aging magazine has done so with a cover illustration that portrays Obama wearing the uniform tunic of a Revolutionary War soldier — maybe even with allusions to founding father and first general of the armies George Washington.

You can add this Obama-as-George Washington image to the many other Old Media claims that Obama is somehow just like some of our most revered Presidents. We’ve been told he’s somehow “just like” Lincoln, John Kennedy, and Franklin Roosevelt. Of course, he’s closer to Woodrow Wilson and Jimmy Carter, but, well, you know.

CNBC: We’re Probably Headed to Another Recession… NOW They Tell Us?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Two days after the election, CNBC published a dour report on the economy. Shockingly, CNBC is predicting that the U.S. economy is likely headed for another recession.

CNBC so helpfully tells us that, now that the election is behind us, the light in our economic tunnel could be a “freight train.” Gee, it sure would have been nice to know that before the election, wouldn’t it?

Slowing corporate profits, the remnants of Superstorm Sandy and the ramifications of the “fiscal cliff” in Washington are expected to result in at least two quarters of slow or no growth that could make investing even trickier than it was during the ups and downs of 2012.

But that isn’t all. The bigger problem we are now told, is that the economy never achieved “escape velocity” in order to get past the low growth rate we have been experiencing.

The economy, CNBC says, never got to the point where we’ve had enough growth to withstand the sort of shocks that a Hurricane Sandy or a continued or renewed bad business climate would wreck upon it.

Obama didn’t fix a thing, it turns out.

Chris Matthews: US Like ‘Third World Nation’ On Election Laws

-By Warner Todd Huston

Even though Tuesday’s general election gave Chris Matthews his “tingle” back with the re-election of Barack Obama, the MSNBC yapper was still unsatisfied with the proceedings. In particular, Matthews thought there “should be a law” to prevent the various states from handling their own elections. You know, even though such a “law” is against the Constitution and all.

In a discussion with former Florida Governor Charlie Crist, Matthews showed his exasperation with the early voting laws in the Sunshine State. In fact, Matthews was still all nutty over the 2000 election results that brought George W. Bush to office.

“Shouldn’t we have a law where you can’t change any election law until maybe two or three cycles after you’re out of power? At least then they wouldn’t be changing the rules like they’re doing now in Florida with [former-Florida Secretary of State] Katherine Harris with [former-Florida Gov.] Jeb Bush back then. There was a lot of questions about the 2000 race. And here we are again.”

Naturally RINO Crist, who shunned the Republican Party in order to endorse Barack Obama, was happy to agree with Matthews.

After The Elections: Where Is America Now? It’s Dead, That’s Where

-By Warner Todd Huston

Due to the re-election of Barack Hussein Obama, the United States is officially a failed experiment. In fact, his election in the first place in 2008 signaled the end.

Because so few of you people out there know anything about history any more, I’ll have to explain that opening line above. You see, the founders considered the United States an experiment in self-government. As Ben Franklin is said to have remarked upon leaving the first Constitutional Convention, the founders had given us a republic “if you can keep it.”

By that, Franklin meant that it would be up to our citizens to a). learn what the United States means, b). come to understand it’s philosophy and governing systems, and c). vote accordingly. We have now officially come to an era where only the tiniest handful of Americans have this understanding and the bulk of those voting are uninformed. Worse, they aren’t just uninformed, they are uninterested.

Oh, Barack Obama isn’t the cause of America’s failure. But he is the ultimate result. He is the result of a citizenry that knows nothing about its own country. He is the result of citizens that no longer care about their country and only care about themselves.

Barack Obama is the ultimate example of how anti-American the Democrat Party is today. The Democrats oppose nearly every single truly American principle that the founders gave us.

Democrats oppose the supremacy of the U.S. Constitution
Democrats oppose personal responsibility
Democrats oppose free speech
Democrats oppose the Second Amendment
Democrats oppose morality and religion
Democrats oppose the rule of law and wish instead to rule by fiat
Democrats oppose the sanctity of life
Democrats oppose education and instead support indoctrination
Democrats oppose business
Democrats oppose liberty and freedom and support totalitarianism
Democrats oppose sovereignty and support international rule
Democrats oppose our national security

In short, Democrats think the United States is a cancer on humanity and they wish to damage it permanently.

L.A. Times: Hey, Did We Mention That You Romney Voters are ALL Racists

-By Warner Todd Huston

Sandy Banks of the L.A. Times has figured out why anyone would vote against Barack Obama. Why, they are all racists, of course. Oh, you don’t use “the N word,” she tells us, but we know what you Romney voters really think.

Banks dropped all pretense of logic or fairness in her November 4 piece going right for the throat and claiming that the nation’s “kumbaya era” is over merely because a white man dared run against Barack Obama for the office of President of the United States.

Like all these hate-filled screeds that cast any non-Obama voter as a racist, Banks doesn’t bother trying to actually explain how a nation that elected a black man for president could suddenly, at the drop of a hat, revert to pre-civil rights oppression, she just states it straight as if it is obvious fact.

This has been the single most disgusting attack against Romney voters and, if Obama loses his bid for reelection, be prepared to see every last left-winger on TV and in the commentariat claim that the only reason Obama lost is because the country is filled with hood-wearing, Jim-Crow-loving, racists.

Banks notes that she and her “reporter” friends hear from people “on the campaign trail” who explain to them why they are voting for Romney this time.

When those flag-waving voters are asked what they mean, their take on the president makes it clear: He’s Kenyan-born, he’s a closet Muslim, he has European-socialist tendencies.

But, even those claims, she says, are lies fostered by Romney voters. Such voters, Banks says, are using Obama’s failure over the economy, his failures in foreign policy, and his bowing and scraping to our enemies as a “proxy” to hide their racist hearts.

No one is using the N-word these days. The “foreign” label is its proxy — a signal that Obama is the “other” in a nation trying to come to grips with seismic economic changes and unsettling demographic shifts.

Banks goes on to use that boring, pervasive idea popular among her fellows that code words explain how racism is as bad in America todayas its ever been. She can’t find any overt racism, of course, so she has to pretend she can read between the lines to find it.

This is the racebaiter’s oldest trick. As race relations improved in America — now to the point where but a relative few care much about race — the chiefs of the racebaiting industry have to employ mind reading exercises and plumb wild-eyed inference to “find” their racism so that they can continue to make money off of it.

UPI Sings the Praises of Paul Ryan

-By Warner Todd Huston

United Press International recently published a nice piece on Paul Ryan touting his “youth” and his “political savvy.”

Nicole Debevec notes that Wisconsin Representative Ryan “brings a lot to the ticket,” going on to say that supporters feel he “brings youth, conservative bone fides and roots in a swing state to the campaign.”

Debevec gives us a quick Ryan resume, that he worked as a speechwriter for conservative icon Jack Kemp and organized the House “Young Guns” program, and even though repeating the tired “he’ll end Medicare as we know it” bilge, wound up on a high note reiterating Ryan’s convention promise not to “duck the tough issues.”

Over all a positive little piece on Paul Ryan.

It is interesting to note, though, that the Old Media establishment has largely gone dark on stories about Paul Ryan. He cannot be made “the stupid guy,” (as they did with Sarah Palin and Dan Quayle) and he isn’t the sort to which “the mean guy” accusation will stick (like they did to Dick Cheney). So, since the Old Media can’t turn Ryan into either a laughing stock or a monster, they’ve steered clear of too much reporting on him.

In any case, it is nice to see a story that reports positively on Romney’s VP pick.
