It’s Time to Pay Close Attention to the Politicians

I have long said that we, the citizens of the United States, must demand good government over politics from our elected officials. The need for this demand has grown exponentially over the past four decades. While We the People were pre-occupied with the trappings of the self-centered 1960s, the self-absorption of the 1970s, the greed culture of the 1980s and the falsely elevated self-esteem culture of the 1990s, political opportunists and special interest operatives, cloaked in the façade of public service, quietly took control of our federal government. Now we are paying the price of cronyism politics over good government.

The Founders and the Framers conceived of and created our Constitutional Republic with the understanding that every American citizen would cherish the Charters of Freedom – The Declaration of Independence, The US Constitution and The Bill of Rights – as a contract, a covenant between citizen and government. In keeping up our end of the contract, the Framers took for granted that we would work to be constitutionally literate while providing governmental oversight. It never occurred to them that we would abdicate our responsibility to liberty, to freedom, the gifts they fought a Revolutionary War to attain for themselves, for us and for future generations of free Americans. It never occurred to them that those who would be bequeathed liberty and freedom would ignore their maintenance in deference to a culture of narcissism.

Today, looking upon what our government has become – a gaggle of political opportunists, special interest courtesans and revolutionary neo-Marxists – the Founders, Framers and revolutionaries would have to wonder if it was all worth their sacrifices and the sacrifices made by their families.

What’s the Difference Between a Conservative and a Liberal?

People often wonder what is the difference between a conservative and a liberal. The simple fact of the matter is that the major difference is that conservatives wonder first what it is they are responsible for while liberals wonder first what everyone else should be doing for them.

Here are some brief rules of thumb:

  • If a conservative sees a U.S. flag, his heart swells with pride.
  • If a liberal sees a U.S. flag, he feels shame.
     
  • If a conservative doesn’t like guns, they don’t buy them.
  • If a liberal doesn’t like guns, then no one else should have one either.
     
  • If a conservative is a vegetarian, he won’t eat meat.
  • If a liberal is, they want to ban all meat products for everyone.

Obama’s Newest School Czar, a Drugged Out Sexual Deviate that Hates Religion?

Just wondering, has Obama appointed anyone that is an upstanding American for one of his so-called czar positions? We’ve had tax cheaters, 9/11 truthers, and all sorts of crazed anti-Americans appointed to these czar positions by this radically leftist president. Well, now we have another example of an extremist lurking around the halls of power in the person of Kevin Jennings, the purported “safe schools czar.”

So what’s wrong with Jennings? Well, he’s former school teacher that is an admitted drug user, a pusher of the homosexual agenda and a hater of religion. Not only that, but he once found out that a teenage boy was having sexual relations with an adult male and he did not report the incident.

Obama has appointed to a position in our federal government a man that wants to impose the homosexual agenda on our children. Obama has put in place a man that has celebrated abusing drugs. Obama wants to expose our children to a man that smiles when a child tells him that he’s being molested by an adult. This is the sort of man that Obama wants to lead our children.

Two days ago we were sitting on the dock in Como, having a gellato, waiting for our ship to come in. Not actually a ship, just a small commuter boat that connects the small communities on the shores of Lake Como in northern Italy.

It is a breathtakingly beautiful place. I can see why VIPs come to a small hotel, built by a mediaeval Cardinal as his residence, just up the Lake. No wonder that George Clooney has a villa here, that is reached only by helicopter, or so the gossip says.

And, this area’s history reaches deep into the mists of time. The streets of the town were laid out about 2,500 years ago, when Julius Caesar conquered the city from its previous conquerer. I came to talk about the sweep of time and history, and how gellato in Italy is a divine concoction, compared to what bears that label in the US, and how going on vacation is good for the soul.

A Doctor’s Deep Concerns About Obamacare

Woodrow Wilcox, a fellow that operates a Medicare advice and assistance website, was contacted not long ago by a local Indiana doctor that read the entire bill of H.R. 3200. Once he was done he had some deep and troubling concerns about Obamacare. The doctor, Stephen E. Fraser, M.D., then sat down and wrote Senator Evan Bayh about these concerns.

Here is that letter:

Dear Senator Bayh,

As a practicing physician, I have major concerns with the health care bill (HR 3200) before Congress. I spent the last week reading this bill, which at over 1000 pages is quite difficult to get through. Have you read it? I’m shocked by the brazenness of the government’s intrusion into the patient-physician relationship. I’m especially concerned about the creation of a central committee to decide medical coverage decisions.

Ill. Blogger Running for State Legislature, 41st District

Matt Burden of the blog BlackFive.net has announced that he is running as a Republican for the the State Legislature. Burden has announced his plans to run for the 41st District. The 41st covers parts of Oak Brook, Westchester, Villa Park, La Grange Park and Oak Brook Terrace.

The seat is currently held by Bob Biggins (R, Elmhurst) but Biggins recently announced he is not running for reelection. This seems to have opened up the floodgates for candidates. Burden joins a very crowded field including attorney Peter Breen, Rafael Rivadeneira, DuPage Co Board member Brien Sheahan and Chris Nybo from Elmhurst.

On his campaign website, Burden does have one disturbing thing as far as I am concerned:

While there is no campaign contribution limit in Illinois (something I will change)…

Something he “will change”? Is Matt Burden suggesting tromping on the Constitutional right of free political speech by using the force of law to stop people from donating to political candidates in amounts he deems gauche? That is not a good sign for Burden’s understanding of the Constitution, I have to say.

The Hill is reporting that Obama is now “open” to a newspaper bailout. Well, welcome to the state run media.

Not long ago Senator Ben Cardin (D- Md.) introduced S. 673, the Newspaper Revitalization Act. It is supposed to give news media tax breaks if they restructure as a non-profit corporation. So far, though, the bill has little support among his colleagues.

The Hill reminds us that in May Obama’s spokesman down played the possibility of government assistance to the media.

But in a recent appearance with the editors of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Obama seemed to say he’s open to the idea saying, “I haven’t seen detailed proposals yet, but I’ll be happy to look at them.”

Welcome to Obama’s America where you are forced to become a union member even if you had no idea you were being inducted into one. In fact, in Obama’s America you won’t even know you are IN a union until you notice union dues are being withheld from your checks.

This is the case in Michigan where Sherry Loar and Dawn Ives work out of their home talking care of children for low-income families. One Friday the pair realized that union dues were being withheld from the checks they receive from the state for the subsidized daycare they perform for local families.

As it happens, neither woman voted to join a union nor even knew that they’d be forcefully inducted into one. They didn’t even know their job had a union.

Mandates Must be Unconstitutional

Imagine a day when a president could tell you that you have to buy something or become a criminal via federal law if you don’t. Imagine a day when you are not allowed to choose not to buy a certain product. In a land of true freedom and liberty worrying about the arrival of such a day would seem ridiculous. But what was once risible is now a frightening reality if Obamacare gets passed.

Now, if Obamacare passes, any citizen that does not “choose” to buy healthcare insurance will be deemed a criminal that will be penalized under the law. Obama’s IRS stormtroopers will come a’knockin to make sure you fulfill your duty to the state.

So what could stop these anti-liberty mandates? According to David B. Rivkin, Jr., and Lee A. Casey, the Constitution of the United States should. Rivkin and Casey maintain in recent Wall Street Journal piece that Obama’s forced insurance mandates are un-Constitutional.

Guns are not the Problem: Crooks Are!

Almost every gun critic uses specious arguments to support the unsupportable. They are defending a castle in ruins. However, they keep trying by using the Bible and Christ to prop up their fallacious argument: only police and the military should possess guns.

The argument is not whether or not Jesus carried a weapon. After all, He was God. Why would He need a weapon? However, the question is should Christians have guns and use them when necessary? I have been accused of taking the position that guns are “godly” but I never took that position. My critics often opine that “Guns are evil.” Guns are inanimate objects, neither good nor evil, but they can be used for good or evil. Likewise, humans can use drugs, automobiles, knives, clubs, etc., in an evil and harmful way or in a good way.

Wimpy liberals lose total control of their thinking process when it comes to guns. It is better to have a gun and not need it than need one and not have one. Many wimps would stand by and permit intruders to harm, rape, even kill their family! I took a vow to protect my wife so that means anyone in our home late at night will be presumed a thief, rapist, and killer. He will be shot graveyard dead. The following day, I will contact the governor of Georgia and ask him when he wants me to come to Atlanta for an awards ceremony. I assume he will give me the key to the city of Atlanta and maybe designate the day, “Don Boys’ Day” in honor of me removing scum from our state and making innocent people more secure.

Brit Hasn’t a Clue About U.S. Politics

Many elitist American leftists like to go about claiming that it is only Americans that are dunces on foreign matters. There is some truth to the accusation that Americans are not knowledgeable about the rest of the world but if a column in the UK Telegraph is any indication it isn’t much better for Britain’s understanding of American politics. Worse, it is plain that even a British journalist hasn’t a clue what he’s on about when attempting to discuss the differences between a Democrat and Republican in today’s climate.

At issue is the incredibly garbled take on American Democrats and Republicans as posted by U.K. Telegraph writer David Lindsay, who claims himself to be a “freelance writer and tutor at Durham University.” One wonders why he doesn’t get a real job.

In “Why real American conservatives should register as Democrats,” Lindsay’s main point seems to be that Republicans really support what the Democratic Party supports and so GOP voters should resign from their party and join the left side of the aisle. But Lindsay’s reasons prove that he doesn’t know a thing about what he’s talking about.

Political Science 101: Power Breeds Corruption

Chicago is known as “The Windy City” not because it is windy (although anyone who tries to use an umbrella during a heavy rain in the Loop knows how difficult that can prove) but because of the blowhard politicians it has produced throughout the centuries. Chicago’s scandalous history of political corruption began in the l9th century around the time of the Chicago Fire continuing through today, most notably, Governor Blagojevich’s attempt to “sell” President Obama’s Senate seat. Political malfeasance doesn’t begin and end in Illinois, though. Other states have equal or worse reputations.

The Wall Street Journal, in an article titled, A Swamp of Corruption, noted that “Louisiana ranks third in the nation in the number of elected officials per capita convicted of crimes (Mississippi takes top prize).” Paging through the list of politicians on the take is like reading a who’s who in the society pages. Most recently, former Democratic Louisiana congressman, Rep. William Jefferson, was convicted by a federal jury, “of taking bribes on 11 of 16 counts in a case in which agents found $90,000 in his freezer.” Corruption is not unique to what is referred to the modern era in our history.

September 17, 1787, the delegates to the United States Constitutional Convention gathered for the last time in Philadelphia to put their names at the bottom of a very important document: the Constitution of the United States. After long months filled with some of the most important discussions on the role of government in world history, the document which survives, to this day, as a monument to freedom was born. A year later, on September 13, 1788, the same group of delegates would vote to put the Constitution in operation, and the United States of America, as we know it, was born. Over the two centuries since the Philadelphia delegates signed off on it, the Constitution has undergone several changes, notably the addition of the Bill of Rights and the 27 Amendments, which guarantee the basic freedoms all Americans have come to cherish, and which cannot be taken away.

The Founding Fathers, in creating the Constitution, charged Americans with a very important task: to ensure that their values — those of individual liberty and limited government — apparent in the Constitution, be preserved for all generations of Americans. Over the years, these values of liberty and democracy have begun to fray and our Constitution has been neglected.

So what can you do?

Well, for starters, you can pledge your support for the Constitution by going to IBelieveintheConstitution.com, and signing the petition in support of our founding document as it was written and as the Founders intended. You can also re-educate yourself and your family on the Constitution, its history, and its legacy by visiting any of these sites: the U. S. The rude, sexually lewd epithet “tea bagger” is the latest snickering, inside joke the Old Media and the left are playing on the average, everyday Americans that have gone out of their way to join the many thousands of on-going Tea Party protests across the country. It also looks like Senator Chris Dodd’s campaign is utilizing the rude name, as well if a report in the Hartford Courant is correct.

First the Courant itself uses the name calling twice in the same piece and then Dodd campaign spokesman Jay Howser joined the rudeness by doing the same thing.

Howser went even farther calling the millions of Americans that have attended Tea Party events in every state of the union “extreme” and the “far right wing.”

There has been a huge surge in the influence of the Glenn Beck Show on Fox News. Beck has become one of the airwaves’ premiere conservatives.


Be gratified that there lives such a patriot among us. There is no doubt about it: Mr. Beck handed America a victory when he almost single-handedly forced a radical communist to resign from the Obama administration.

Beck’s nightly program on Fox is to be highly commended. Both Beck and his investigative staff keep “We The People” informed about those with whom President Barack Obama has surrounded himself. Beck has told his audience to judge Obama by the people the president relies on because they share his Marxist ideology — and boy, was he right on this one!

Are Voters Fed Up at Last? Ohio Congressman Turner Gets Slammed for Earmarks

Much to his dismay, Congressman Mike Turner of Ohio’s 3rd District has just discovered a new attitude from his voters. Unfortunately, it’s a lesson that congress isn’t likely to learn too quickly. But let’s see if Congressman Turner will.

Until now there has been an averting of the eyes at the overspending of “my” congressman. The individual voters have for decades been willing to excuse their own congressman for bringing home the pork even as they complain at the wild over spending by congress as a whole.

For a very long time the voters have been upset at spending by congress, but they’ve completely ignored the excesses of their own congressman because, after all, his wild spending came home to them. Voters have been willing to overlook their own pork if it’s their pork.

But if a recent tea party rally in Ohio is any indication, this permissive attitude so long exhibited by voters might finally be about to change.

Are CCL Holders Dangerous? Columnist Thinks So

A blogger for the Roanoke Times wrote a recent blog post breathlessly informing his readers that contrary to “false claims” concealed carry permit holders have, indeed, been responsible for acts of murder and mayhem. Dan Casey presents the report issued by what he claims is the “nonpartisan” Violence Policy Center.

That report finds that seven policemen and forty-three civilians have been killed by concealed carry license holders. This is a horrible body count and no one can say otherwise.

Casey, for his part, is crowing about the “lies” of the “gun zealots” and seems quite pleased to find proof of this body count, however.

It’s gripping reading for anyone who cares about the truth. And it proves the falsity of gun zealots’ claim that nobody, nowhere, can ever point to an unjustified killing by a permit holder. It also undermines the notion that every CC permit holder is responsible and law-abiding.

So, let us review.

Missing the Larger Point on the Public Option

As Congress prepares to return to work – now there’s an oxymoron – the subject of healthcare is weighing heavy in the air. The August recess provided the American people with contentious town hall meetings where We the People were described by opportunistic, power-hungry politicians as “astroturfers,” “un-American” and “terrorists.” It also saw the Progressive Liberal machine dispatch their minions – special interest group contingents from ACORN, MoveOn.org, SEIU, etc. – to the citizenry in an effort to silence the dissent about government-run healthcare and provide a cheery backdrop for Progressives and President Obama as they “met” with the unwashed masses. But in the debate over healthcare and the public option everyone, sans a very few, missed a constitutional point of order.

The Declaration of Independence, the first of our Charters of Freedom, states:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…”

Thomas Jefferson and his fellow Framers, acknowledging the philosophy of Natural Law, made it quite clear that we, as an American people, believe in and accept that the right to “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” is unalienable. By establishing these “unalienable rights,” the Framers meant to ensure that government would refrain from legislating laws that would encroach upon or deny these natural rights – these unalienable rights – to every American citizen.

A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.

Two Americas or One Nation with Liberty & Justice for All

Fundamental law is the key to maintaining the rights and freedoms of every citizen in the United States of America. It is questionable how many people actually understand what is considered fundamental law, or why it is referred to as such. The US Constitution and the Bill of Rights -which was promised as part of the ratification of the US Constitution in order to ensure its passage-, are both considered to be the fundamental law of the United States. These documents, along with the Declaration of Independence are commonly referred to as our founding documents – the Charters of Freedom.

Fundamental law is so important to this society that the justices working in our federal judicial system are sworn to uphold it. Every case that comes before the Supreme Court brings into question fundamental law. If a law or decision contradicts fundamental law, it is to be overturned. The only way to change the fundamental law of our nation is through the amendment process and in the history of our country, this has only occurred 27 times, including the first 10 amendments to the US Constitution -which are encompassed in the Bill of Rights.

Every President and every US Representative and Senator take an oath of elected office, swearing to uphold the US Constitution.

One could say you’ve eroded away the last of the American people’s trust, respect, and patience. You’re now threatening to intrude into every facet of our daily lives, and enough is enough.

We see you as the “number one” community organizer sitting in the White House. The members of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) and union thugs are being mobilized to counter the truth at public gatherings. They are sent out for the sole purpose of confronting, threatening, intimidating, and maligning your opponents, including those among America’s elderly who’ve come to stand up for their rights at town hall meetings. — View YouTube)

Very few believe you anymore. Only those who refuse to listen to reason remain gullible. Their minds are still open to your deceptive lies. You used cunningly-crafted words and theatrics during the 2008 election to con half of America into thinking you were a special and decent man of integrity, but even your Democrat constituents are becoming aware of what you are. You and your political cronies are corrupt to the hilt, like the rest of the Daley Chicago political machine.

Government Stimulus Spending: Differing Perspectives

President Franklin Roosevelt, speaking of the intractable Depression, sourly admitted that Keynesian fiscal policy, in theory, was the simplest thing in the world, but in practice, a disaster.

A thoughtful reader, who generally disagrees with me, posted the following as part of his comment responding to The Bigger the Government, the Harder the Economic Fall:

I must confess that I find your “mysticism” explanation of how business cycles occur somewhat baffling, but knowing your anti-Keynesian viewpoint, I should not be surprised that you view any governmental pump priming with suspicion.

According to the butterfly effect, any seemingly insignificant action will have a cascading effect and invariably lead to a chain of events elsewhere. How much more telling would the expenditure (whether you approve or not) of billions of dollars be to the economy than the flutter of the wing of a moth?

My response:

I can’t presume to speak for the reader’s views, but liberal-progressives on balance advocate the Keynesian macro-economic approach, a variety of chaos-theory, butterfly effect, which appears to me to be simplistic.

You Say You Want a Real Solution

As the debate over health care reform rages on – and despite the fact that the debate should be over how to provide true health care affordability to all, if in fact the goal of the “overhaul” is genuinely about the good of the downtrodden – we hear one retort from Progressives, Liberals and neo-Marxists, both in government and out: Where is your plan if you don’t like ours? Truth be told, there are several conservative and Republican crafted plans but Madam Pelosi and Mr. Reid won’t entertain them and the agenda-driven mainstream media won’t cover them. But one thing is evident, even to the intellectually challenged. If the goal is truly to provide health care affordability to every American citizen, there are ways to do it without the heavy hand of government.

Most honest Americans agree, our health care system – the system that provides medical service, i.e. doctors, hospitals, clinics, etc. – is the best in the world. It certainly does not need reform or government intervention. If you need proof it comes in the form of the richest and most powerful people in the world coming to the United States for treatment, especially when every other avenue of treatment has been exhausted. To fall prey to the notion that the “health care system is broken,” is to be gullible to a fault.

The cog that isn’t meshing correctly in the machine that includes patients, doctors, hospitals and insurance companies is the insurance company cog. Many in our country would like to see more affordable prices, inclusionary coverage for those of us with pre-existing conditions and security in knowing that if a catastrophic medical event happens to us we won’t be driven to the poor house by increased premiums of unfunded procedures. As our health care insurance system exists today, these desirable elements are not within reach of everyone. But by including a few simple provisions and/or pursuing a few sensible avenues, Americans can have affordable, functioning health care insurance for all without creating a government-run health care entity.

I am sad, today. The Catholic News Agency seems to have shown that its reporters don’t know a blamed thing about the Constitution. Unfortunately, this uninformed reporter for CNS is not an isolated case as too many Americans haven’t a clue about what is actually in the Constitution of the United States.

For CNS, reporter Chaz Muth published a story headlined Interactive display at Library of Congress makes Bible come alive, but right away the first sentence condemns Chaz to the ranks of the uninformed.

Separation of church and state is enshrined in the U.S. Constitution but that doesn’t mean the Bible can’t be admired and appreciated by a public or government institution.

Travel writer Arthur Frommer recently said that he will never visit any place in Arizona again. Is it because he was badly served at a Denny’s in Flagstaff? Maybe he didn’t like the turn down service at the Motel Six in Phoenix? Perhaps he was mad because the folks at the McDonald’s in Tucson didn’t recognize him? Nope. It’s because Arizonans are fond of the Constitution of the United States, that’s why.

On his blog, Frommer fretted over the recent appearance of Arizona’s law-abiding citizens carrying firearms at a townhall meeting. It so upset his delicate mental balance that he asked, “Do Guns at Political Events Disturb You?,” and then went on to recommend that if they do, “Then Consider Skipping Arizona for Now.”

This elitist, left-winger went on to show that he doesn’t know a thing about the very country he pretends to write about in his travels.

‘You Have Awakened the Sleeping Giant’

One of the benefits coming from the recent congressional town hall meetings – of which there are many – is that we now know to what extent the elected class in Washington DC is cognizant of their constituents’ positions on the issues; specifically, healthcare. They aren’t, especially on the Left side of the aisle. Instead, the elected class in Washington – and it is true for an overwhelming majority on both sides of the aisle – has opted-out of their sworn duty to represent their constituents in deference to a blinding loyalty to their political party organizations and the ideologies they hold.

While many of the elected officials in question, their aides, the DNC, MoveOn.org, Organizing for America and the agenda-driven  mainstream media talk about the “angry” and “vocal” nature of the town halls, they allude to the notion that the American citizens attending these meetings are not letting the elected officials speak; that they are “shouting down” the Congressmen and Senators as they try to explain a “very complicated” healthcare plan to their constituents. Nothing could be further from the truth.

To believe that the American people haven’t heard – ad nauseam – the plethora of contorted and contrived talking points meant to sell this gigantic over-reach of government into the private sector health insurance industry is to lie, bald-faced, to anyone within earshot.

Column 666, about President Obama

This is the 666th column in this weekly series. It had to be spent on an overarching subject. So it is.

President Barack Obama is the most accomplished liar I have ever encountered, and that includes several pathological liars I faced in court. The best of those I could not rattle even with a well-prepared and vigorous cross-examination. Only the weight of solid facts from other sources served to expose and defeat those people.

Pathological liars can give the impression that they are telling the truth because they are smooth, accomplished, and effective. But the most important reason is that they have learned to lie to themselves. When they tell a bald-faced lie, right to your face, they actually believe what they are saying.

I’ll use exactly one example. On the campaign trail, Obama repeatedly said that “no one earning less than $250,000 a year will pay any additional taxes.” This was his definition of the middle class, in his universal mantra of no new taxes for the bulk of Americans.

“Birther” Label Overshadows a Real Issue

I have always been one to say that I cannot know the answer to the “birthers’” question of whether Mr. Obama is eligible to hold the Presidency. I can’t answer the question because I am being kept from examining the only documents that do exist to prove the point. To date, I have heard all the arguments and seen all the propaganda – from both sides of the issue – and for all the uproar there is only one way to know who is right and who is mistaken. But the “birther” issue is a literal smoke-screen issue and one that is covering up a much more serious one; one that threatens to produce a constitutional crisis.

In examining this subject in the days after it first presented, our non-profit organization, BasicsProject.org, tasked with educating and informing the citizenry on matters that include constitutional literacy, began to ask questions in an effort to honestly understand the facts of the matter. As our examination progressed it became abundantly clear that there exists no mechanism for the enforcement of Article II, Section 1 of the United States Constitution, which states:

“No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.”

During our examination of the issue we contacted each of the State Boards of Election and/or Secretary of State’s offices to ask whether they or another organization within their jurisdiction required candidates for the Executive Branch offices to present first-source, vaulted proof of their prerequisite satisfaction of Article II, Section 1.
