CPAC–Rand Paul: Not a Penny to Countries That Burn U.S. Flag

-By Warner Todd Huston

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul didn’t disappoint on yesterday’s appearance at CPAC at one point in his speech saying of foreign aide, “I say not one penny more to countries that are burning our flag.”

When he kicked off his address he joked that he’d only been given 20 minutes to speak but had brought 13 hours of material. He went on to joke that because of his filibuster Obama might ant to “drone” him.

This set Paul up to discuss theObama’s drone program, the National Defense Authorization Act, and how it is borderline unlawful to use drones on American soil without the due process of law.

CPAC 2013

-By Warner Todd Huston

Once again I am attending the Conservative Political Action Conference here in Washington D.C.–well, not D.C. exactly but outside the city in National Harbor, Maryland, a 20 minute drive from downtown.

The morning started off with Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, U.S. Representative Allen West, and Senator Pat Toomey and a few others.

CPAC’s early group discussion on Thursday was all about cultural diversity with a panel titled “Respecting families and the rule of law: a lasting immigration policy.” This panel addressed the thorny issue of the conservative position on the current problems over immigration, illegal or otherwise.

Reuters Regurgitates Democrat Talking Points on Budget Plan

-By Warner Todd Huston

On March 12, Representative Paul Ryan (R, WI) released the GOP’s budget proposal sparking an afternoon of analysis and criticism. By Tuesday evening Reuters was contrasting Ryan’s budget with one sponsored by Senator Patty Murray (D, WA). But there is one problem with Reuters’ analysis. The Democrats didn’t actually release any budget for Reuters to analyze by the time the news service had published its story. So, Reuters is simply regurgitating Murray’s talking points.

In the Reuters report, the pair of budgets are deemed difficult to pass because they appear “crafted to appeal to their respective party bases.”

Reuters claims that the problem with Ryan’s budget is that it is likely aimed at getting Rep. Ryan the 2016 GOP Presidential nomination as opposed to being a serious attempt to solve Washington’s budget problems.

NH Dem. Says Gov’t Employees are Like ‘Our Children’

-By Warner Todd Huston

The rap on Democrats is that they fully misunderstand what the relationship should be between citizen and government. Many claim Democrats think government should be mommy and daddy to us all. Well, one New Hampshire Democrat revealed that this is exactly what she thinks.

At a Belknap County budget meeting in the first week of March, NH State Representative Ruth Gulick decided she needed to speak up during the discussion about the budget where it concerns cutting costs with county employees.

During the open discussion on the cost cutting, Gulick said that there should be fewer cuts in county employee’s pay because the county is like the employee’s parents and we wouldn’t “short our kids” would we?

Here is exactly what Rep. Gulick said:

Minn. TV News Ignores Facts: Muslims Attacked Christian Church Meeting

-By Warner Todd Huston

A Minnesota TV news story perpetrated a perfect example of one-sided “news” coverage especially where it concerns the politically correct treatment of two, innocent, doe-eyed Muslims who, gosh darn it, just want to be loved like you and me. Naturally, the TV station does not report the truth that the two Muslims they laud actually infiltrated a meeting at a Christian church in order to attack a guest and disparage Christians.

An Assembly of God Church in Perham, Minnesota, invited well-known critic of radical Islam, Walid Shoebat, to speak about the evils of radical Islam and two Muslim exchange students decided to attend to confront Mr. Shoebat on his “lies” about Islam.

ABC TV affiliate, WDAY Channel 6 News (in nearby Fargo, ND) reported the incident saying that these innocent young foreigners–here in America on a student foreign exchange program–attended the church merely to hear the speaker and when they asked an innocent question, why these innocent young innocents were cast bodily out of the church by the evil, evil, racist Christians just for daring to ask their innocent questions.

CNN Mocks Rand Paul’s Filibuster, No Wonder CNN is Losing Credibility

-By Warner Todd Huston

During a long stretch of the day in the U.S. Senate, Kentucky’s junior Republican Senator, Rand Paul, led a filibuster to decry the Obama’s administration’s seeming disregard of due process, the rule of law, and American’s civil rights. This, apparently, is funny to CNN. Makes one wonder why CNN imagines itself a news station!

Obama’s administration has admitted that it sees nothing inherently wrong with using flying drones to kill Americans here in our own country. This is something that Senator Paul and millions of other Americans (on both sides of the aisle, by the way) think is wrong.

As Obama’s nomination for a new CIA chief came to the floor, Senator Paul launched an old fashioned, talking filibuster to block the nomination in order to get his point across that killing Americans without due process, without proper warrants and trials is simply wrong.

This was something that CNN’s Erin Burnett thought was worthy of mocking.

Here is what CNN’s viewers were treated to during Burnett’s show…

Oops: Bank Robber With Toy Gun Meets Teller With Real Gun

-By Warner Todd Huston

A would be bank robber in Trimble, Missouri, got a bit of a shock on March 1 after brandishing a toy gun in an attempt to rob a bank only to get shot in the face by a teller toting a real gun.

The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri reported that Michael Oliva was arrested and charged for attempting to rob the First Security Bank of Trimble as well as leading police on a high-speed chase.

The U.S. Attorney states that Oliva entered the bank with a realistic plastic replica of a pistol and ordered a female bank teller to give him what was in her cash drawer. Instead of complying, the woman fell to the floor in fear.

As she began to crawl away, Oliva ran around the side of the counter still brandishing his toy gun in a threatening manner.

Seeing the frightened employee, a second bank employee ran out from an office with a .357 Smith & Wesson pistol and fired shots at the assailant. Oliva was hit once in the jaw and ran out of the bank leaving a long trail of blood.

The alleged robber made it to his car and drove off, but police soon caught up to him and gave chase at times reaching 100 miles per hour. After a time, Oliva pulled over, bleeding profusely, and asked the police, “You guys going to let me die?”

Oliva was taken to a nearby hospital to treat his wounds.

The bank employee is not likely to be charged as he had a concealed carry permit.

Investigation into Wis. Gov. Walker Ended, No Charges Filed

-By Warner Todd Huston

The so-called John Doe investigation into Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has now come to a conclusion with no charges filed against the Governor.

The probe has dragged on for three years netting a few of Walker’s associates from his days as Milwaukee County Executive and other tangential figures but the Governor himself was left untouched by the investigation. Retired Appeals Court Judge Neal Nettesheim signed the order to close the investigation on March 1.

“I realize the frustration on the part of some people with the length of the investigation. But I’m satisfied with how it went,” Judge Nettesheim said on Friday.

Reviewing the case, the judge pointed out that prosecutors interviewed and took testimony from hundreds of witnesses, and raided the homes of several Walker associates seizing documents.

“The whole purpose of the John Doe is to inquire whether possible criminal activity occurred,” said the retired judge. “The John Doe served its purpose. It’s to resolve uncertainty and to go where the evidence takes you.”

Rep. Maxine Waters Inflates Sequester to ‘170 Million’ Jobs Lost

-By Warner Todd Huston

Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D, CA) had a dire prediction for America due to sequestration claiming that 170 million jobs would be lost as a result of the policy. But according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics there are only about 140 million jobs in the whole country.

During a press conference on February 28, Waters told reporters of a visit by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke who told members of congress that sequestration is not the optimal way to cut the federal budget.

Talking of Bernanke’s comments, Waters claimed that “if sequestration takes place, that’s going to be a great setback. We don’t need to be having something like sequestration that’s going to cause these jobs losses, over 170 million jobs that could be lost.”

However, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Table A-9, Selected Employment Indicators, in January of 2013 there were 141,614 million jobs in the current American economy.

Using Waters’ math, the US would lose about 30 million more jobs than it had to start with.

Sen. Feinstein Gushes Over CNN’s Anti-Gun Piers Morgan, ‘You’ve Been Wonderful’

The interview ended in a gushing mutual admiration society as gun-banner Feinstein applauded gun-hater Morgan and vice versa.

“That gun culture is letting bad things happen,” Feinstein sonorously told Morgan at the tail of the interview.

“Well, you’re doing a fantastic job on this, Senator,” Morgan told her. “I absolutely applaud you and urge you to continue,” he added.

The mutual admiration continued as Feinstein said, “Oh, Piers, thank you.”

“You have been wonderful. Thank you so much for your help. It is uphill all the way,” Feinstein concluded.

Assault Weapons Ban Could Get Senate Committee Vote Thursday

-By Warner Todd Huston

The wide ranging gun ban bill introduced by Senator Diane Feinstein (D, CA) could be voted out of committee and passed on to the full Senate as early as Thursday.

A schedule posted for the upcoming February 28 executive business meeting shows the Senate Judiciary Committee intends to discuss Feinstein’s and three other gun control bills, though the eight Republican members of the committee have the option to push the meeting off for another week.

The Feinstein bill bans up to 160 specifically named firearms but might have an uphill battle in the Senate as even some Democrat Senators have said it goes too far by banning too many firearms.

Less than a month ago Senate Democrat majority leader Harry Reid (D, NV) shied from supporting Feinstein’s bill directly, though he praised her “enthusiasm” for her gun banning bill.

Slavery Flap Shows Emory University Professors are Morons

-By Warner Todd Huston

Earlier this month the President of Emory University wrote a piece for the school magazine about the efficacy of compromise. By the 24th he was forced to apologize for the piece because he mentioned slavery fully in context in his piece. The faux outrage that his comments caused proved three things: that no one at Emory has any grasp of American history, that the professors at Emory University are morons, and that the student body are utterly unable to employ critical thinking.

The segment that upset everyone was utterly innocuous and cited properly in context by Wagner, without hate or racism. Unfortunately, logic and context isn’t what the race baiters of Emory University are interested in, sad to say.

President James Wagner’s piece was meant to extol the virtues of compromise and meant his piece to explain that this vaunted compromise was as American as Apple Pie, baseball, and the restl. Pursuant to that, Wagner wrote the following:

One instance of constitutional compromise was the agreement to count three-fifths of the slave population for purposes of state representation in Congress. Southern delegates wanted to count the whole slave population, which would have given the South greater influence over national policy. Northern delegates argued that slaves should not be counted at all, because they had no vote. As the price for achieving the ultimate aim of the Constitution—“to form a more perfect union”—the two sides compromised on this immediate issue of how to count slaves in the new nation. Pragmatic half-victories kept in view the higher aspiration of drawing the country more closely together.

Such as it is, this is correct, straight forward, pure fact. It has not a whiff of controversy to it. Well, it wouldn’t have a whiff of controversy if an intelligent, informed person were reading that excerpt, anyway.

Instead of intelligent people, however, we ended up with dolts like Emory history “professor” Leslie Harris, halfwits like “professor” Leroy Davis, and racebaiters like student Jovanna Jones.

Illinois Middle Schooler Told Marines Themed T-Shirt is ‘Inappropriate’ at School

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Monday, an Illinois middle schooler was told that his U.S. Marines T-Shirt was “inappropriate” to wear in school and that if he didn’t take the shirt off, cover it up, or turn it inside out he’d be suspended.

The shirt Middle schooler Michael McIntyre, 13, wore to school featured a pair of crossed M16 rifles beneath the word “Marines.” The boy’s father, Dan McIntyre, feels that the teacher objected to the depiction of the rifles and that is what sparked her demand that the boy take off the shirt.

The demand was made by Teacher Karen Deverell, a reading and language arts teacher at Genoa-Kingston Middle School, on Monday, February 13. The boy’s father reports that his son followed the orders.

In an exclusive interview, Michael’s father, Dan McIntyre, said, “He’s worn the shirt before, so I don’t know why they said anything this time.”

Chicago Tribune’s Anti-Republican Hit Piece

-By Warner Todd Huston

In his recent column on the GOP candidates running to replace Jesse Jackson, Jr., the Chicago Tribune’s Bill Ruthhart either lied about his ultimate goal or he is just a terrible journalist. Either way his latest piece turned out to be a mere hit piece instead of news.

Ruthhart’s piece was apparently supposed to be informing the Tribune’s readers about the several Republican candidates vying to replace the disgraced Jesse Jackson, Jr. in the special election for Chicago’s Second Congressional District. Instead of giving a fair representation of that information, though, Ruthhart misled readers.

In the case of candidate Eric Wallace, Ruthhart offers opinion, not facts, and with Paul McKinley the writer doesn’t give all the facts pertinent to the points he raised so that readers can fully understand what is going on with the candidate.

First Ruthhart smears Eric Wallace as a dunce.

Texas Moves to Block Police from Enforcing New Federal Gun Laws

If passed, a bill introduced in the Texas State legislature would prevent state and local police officers from enforcing any new federal gun control laws.

The Firearm Protection Act, sponsored by Republican Representative Steve Toth (The Woodlands, Dist. 15), would stop Texas law enforcement officials from confiscating so-called assault weapons or large capacity ammunition magazines.

“There’s a federal law, there’s a 30-round magazine right in front of you – what do I do?,” Toth said to reporters. His bill, he said, firmly answers that question.

Whole Foods Apologizes for ‘Racist’ Sign Showing Obama Selling Chicken

After many complaints, a Whole Foods store in New York City took down a sign featuring an artist’s depiction of President Obama selling whole organic chicken.

The drawing appeared on a chalk board placed on the sidewalk outside the store located at Columbus and 97th Streets on the city’s Upper West Side.

Some customers and neighbors complained that using the President’s image to sell chicken was an offensive racial stereotype.

On Thursday, Channel 4, WNBC in New York, interviewed a man that lives in the neighborhood of the store.

“There are certain things that have been used to put down black people,” Woody Henderson told reporters.

Professor Stephanie Wolfe criticized Fox News right in her syllabus and told students they weren’t allowed to use Fox News as source material. It is reported that in the class guide, Wolfe told students, “The tagline Fox News makes me cringe.”

“Please do not subject me to this biased news station. I would almost rather you print off an article from The Onion,” Wolfe wrote.

On the other hand, Wolfe told students that the Huffington Post, the BBC, and The New York Times were perfectly acceptable sources.

Maryland Gov. Abusing Email Privacy to Push Gun Control Agenda

-By Warner Todd Huston

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley seems to have used his power as Governor to utilize the personal emails of hundreds of Marylanders holding hunting licenses in order to push his anti-gun agenda.

Patrick Shomo, the president of the pro-gun rights organization Maryland Shall Issue, told The Washington Times that Governor O’Malley is “tapping the state’s Department of Natural Resources database for hunting licenses” in order to gain access to the addresses.

Marylanders that hold state hunting licenses received an email from Gov. O’Malley on February 7 that was ostensibly informing them about the state’s hunting news. At the end of the message, though, O’Malley suddenly pivoted to an anti-gun message.

“I also want to take this opportunity to address you directly about the proposal we recently introduced to reduce gun violence,” O’Malley wrote. “Our goal is to enact common sense proposals to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous criminals, and to try to reduce the risk of a mass shooting like the one that occurred in Newtown. Let me be clear: We are committed to protecting hunters and their traditions. That’s why we specifically carved out shotguns and rifles from the licensing requirements of our bill.”

Of course, O’Malley’s bill is based on banning guns on cosmetic appearances, not actual mechanical factors. In fact, many guns currently used for hunting and target shooting can be altered to look like the sort of weapons that O’Malley thinks should be banned. The line is blurrier than O’Malley claimed in his email.

Shomo felt that the purpose of the Governor’s email was to cleave Maryland’s gun owners into two camps.

“They are not fooled. They know that he is trying to split the herd for now, and hunters know better than any others what happens to those split from the herd,” Shomo said.

As Emily Miller points out, Gov. O’Malley has an uphill battle to enact his gun grab. Marylanders are supporters of their Second Amendment rights. 83 percent believe in their right to self-protection and citizens are against the idea of government deciding which guns are allowed and which aren’t by a 50-39 margin.

Hawaii Five-O’s Anti-Gun Tirade

-By Warner Todd Huston

On the Monday’s broadcast of the long awaited remake of a popular 1970s era episode of Hawaii Five-O, one of the main characters went on a rant against “gun nuts” and the lack of both strict regulations and a pervasive, privacy-invading registration process. But later in the show the same character was apologetic over not having a warrant to review records of owners of post office boxes because it is an invasion of their right to privacy.

The episode, titled “Hookman,” is a remake of the 1973 fan favorite from the original Jack Lord series and featured a double amputee who lost his hands in the commission of a crime decades ago who then went on a campaign of revenge against members of the Hawaii Police Department that put him in jail.

But this year’s remake was not a carbon copy of the original as, unlike the 1973 episode, in this version there was time enough for one of the characters to go on a tirade against guns, gun laws and gun owners.

In the original episode, one of the clues left by the killer was a rifle with a golden plaque affixed to it bearing the name of the policeman slain by the killer. In the new one, however, the clue was a rifle shell casing with the name engraved on it. In the original, Jack Lord’s Officer McGarrett went to a plaque-maker’s shop to try and find out to whom the proprietor sold the item. In the remake, the team went to a local gun shop to try and chase down the shell casing. This alteration in the original script specifically set today’s character up for his anti-gun rant.

ABC Ignores Tim Scott’s Senate Appointment in Dec., By Jan. Hails Mo Cowan’s as ‘History’

In December, ABC’s World News saw no news at all in the historic appointment of African American Tim Scott to the Senate in South Carolina. No mention was made of it during the broadcast.

Only a month later, though, the same program suddenly hailed African American William “Mo” Cowan’s appointment to the Senate as history making.

When Republican Tim Scott was appointed to fill retiring Senator Jim DeMint’s Senate seat he became the first African American from South Carolina to be sent to the Senate since 1881. Further, when he took his seat he was the only black Senator from either party in Washington D.C. But despite all these notable historic facts, ABC’s World News never mentioned Scott’s appointment.

However, this month when the Governor of Massachusetts appointed African American, Democrat Mo Cowan to finish out John Kerry’s term, ABC suddenly found it to be a moment worthy of coverage.

Man Sues After ‘GAYGUY’ License Plate Denied

An Atlanta man is suing the state of Georgia saying that his civil rights were violated after being denied several vanity license plates that would have made reference to his sexual preference.

Last year James Cyrus Gilbert applied for several different license plates announcing his support for homosexuality. In his lawsuit, Gilbert says he tried to get 4GAYLIB, GAYPWR, and GAYGUY but was denied each time.

Like many states, Georgia has a list of vulgarities, subjects and words that are banned from vanity plates and authorities say reference to sexual predilections is one of the banned items in the Peach State.

Gilbert says he doesn’t believe his requests were vulgar or “over the top.”

Neither the Georgia Department of Driver Services nor the Georgia State’s Attorney’s Office have agreed to comment on the lawsuit.
