Roskam Statement on Short-Term Continuing Resolution

From the office of Congressman Peter Roskam (Ill., 6th District)…

WASHINGTON – Rep. Peter Roskam, Chief Deputy Whip, issued the following statement about the short-term Continuing Resolution that would prevent a government shutdown while also cutting $4 billion:

“House Republicans are showing once more that we’re fully committed to preventing a government shutdown while also ensuring Washington makes necessary spending cuts that will begin to remove barriers to job creation. After already sending the Senate a fiscally responsible Continuing Resolution, we will soon send a second short-term CR – one that also cuts spending and keeps the government running – and which gives the Senate more time to consider the original. The onus is now squarely on Senate Democrats to not force a government shutdown by passing this two-week resolution – a resolution that cuts earmark slush funds and programs that even President Obama supports cutting. Americans overwhelmingly want Washington to tighten its belts and reduce government spending, not preserve the status-quo.”

Video: Stop Obama and His Union Bosses!

-By Warner Todd Huston

Courtesy of the Republican National Committee…

This is exactly right. While every state is drowning in debt, Barack Obama and the billions that unions have spent on him and his Democrat Party is being put toward thwarting the will of the voters and to making the state’s and the federal government’s debt far, far worse.

How Did Ill. Representatives Vote on Cost Cutting (HR1)?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Last week, the House of Representatives passed HR 1. This bill was the 2011 continuing appropriations act, the bill that makes provisions to fund the federal government. It also contained $61 billion in cuts.

There were 21 different cost cutting measures in the bill. So, how did our Illinois Representatives vote on HR 1? How many of the amendments did our reps vote “yes” for?

Republicans
Walsh (R, 8th): 100%
Manzullo (R, 16th): 95%
Roskam (R, 6th): 81%
Johnson (R, 15th): 76%
Shimkus (R, 19th): 67%
Hultgren (R, 14th): 62%
Schilling (R, 17th): 57%
Schock (R, 18th): 57%
Dold (R, 10th): 38%
Kinzinger (R, 11th): 38%
Biggert (R, 13th): 25%

Congratulations to Joe Walsh for being a 100% man! Manzullo and Roskam are not too shabby, either. Sadly a few of our newest Reps are in Democrat territory with their weak support of the most number of cost cutting measures. I mean, 38 percent for Kinzinger?? That is horrible. Is Adam Kinzinger a big government guy after all his claims on the campaign trail? Left-winger Biggert’s Democrat-styled votes are no surprise. One is continually surprised she is still pretending to be a Republican.

Wisconsin Union Facts

-By Warner Todd Huston

Thee has been a lot of confusion over just what the heck is going on between Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and the unions in the Badger State. Who is doing what to whom is information that seems to be a bit hard to come by. What does Walker plan to do? What does his bill mean?

For those that want a good wrap up of exactly what is going on no better post than that of Brian Fojtik’s over at Pundit League can be found.

Please do take a quick jump over to Wisconsin Union Wars: The Facts and read all the details.

Also, if you want a pretty good review of Walker’s record, take a look at www.TheHispanicConservative.com.

Illinois Police Help Fleeing Wisc. Dem Senators Avoid Doing Their Jobs

From the Chicago Tea Party…

Members of the Illinois Tea Party received a tip indicating the Democratic State Senators who fled the state of Wisconsin rather than doing their jobs were in a hotel in Illinois. After hearing the news, they promptly dropped their groceries and made the 15 minute drive to the town of Harvard, IL. (WI State Senator Chris Larson (D) pictured below)

Jane Carrell of the Northern Illinois Tea Party has the latest on the situation.

Northern Illinois Tea Party board member Doc got to the Heritage Suites in Harvard and found the fleeing senators in the lobby of the motel. He said that they were laughing like school children. News cameras were there.

No Truth In Left’s Wisconsin Union Support or Its State Budget Surplus Story

-By Warner Todd Huston

First came the disgrace of supposedly intelligent teachers in Wisconsin sporting hundreds of signs calling Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker “Hitler” and now comes the entire liberal blogosphere and it’s echo chamber in the left-media establishment claiming that Gov. Walker has “ginned up” a budget shortfall when he actually has a budget surplus. One wonders when the childish hyperbole and lies will ever stop for the left?

Lefty TV yakker Rachel Maddow, ever hooked into the most goofy left-wing talking point du jour and always ready to dutifully regurgitate same, recently made a big point about Walker’s mythic surplus, sneeringly saying that, “Wisconsin is fine… I am not kidding.” On her Feb 17 show, Maddow breathlessly informed us that Walker is just using the claim of a budget problem in a cynical attempt to destroy unions. Because, well, unions are so innocent, right? I mean they are just gently joshing with all those Hitler references, you know?

Wisc. Union Thug: ‘First They Take Away Unions, Then They Take Away The Jews…’??? Unions Want Legalized Theft, Plain and Simple

-By Warner Todd Huston

Every so-called teacher in Wisconsin needs to be removed from the classroom and should not be allowed to return until she can prove that she’s become educated enough to understand that no politician in Wisconsin is “just like Hitler.”

These thugs latest claim is that “it’s not about the money” but the facts speak pretty clearly that it is all about the money. The union thugs want more of yours, Wisconsin, and your Republican legislators are telling them that the wallet is empty.

This has become ground zero for the fight against the thievery that public employee unions have perpetrated against the people for 50 years. This is day one in the fight to end the abuse.

… and make no mistake about it, folks. The unions are in a war against YOU, the taxpayer. They think YOU are the enemy. YOU are their target. YOU are their sugar daddy. Tell them you’ve had enough of their abuse.

So They Called Him Hitler, So What? Grow Up, The Both of You!

-By Warner Todd Huston

You know, I am about sick to death of this childish back and forth between the unhinged left and the oh-so-outraged right on the name calling issue, especially where it concerns the use of the name of humanity’s most evil villain, Hitler. Yeah, they said (put latest politician here) is Hitler. But so what? Let’s stop the foolish waste of time focusing outrageously, outrageous, outrage over the name calling because not only is it human nature to name call, but it is an age-old American political pastime. A little of it is even cathartic. On the other hand if you happen to be the one using Hitler all the time, stop it, you dipwad. Quit the name calling, you creep. Yes, do read on my morons and let’s hash this out, shall we?

It is a simple, historical fact that Americans have been using the most vile names they could think of with which to label their political opponent. No, we haven’t been calling each other Hitler since the founding and only a gutwrenchingly stupid level of moron would think that. Yet I know that at least a percentage of you reading this were thinking just that, intending to use it to show I am an idiot myself. The fact is that each era has had it’s own version of the worst person in the world award, to be sure, and each era has had no less than one slobberingly absurd Olbermannesque person doing the awarding.

In the early founding those that were targeted for attack were called monarchists. That may seem mild now, but it was a particularly un-American name then since we had just split from a monarchy through a difficult 7-year war. If it were religion that was the target subject, the worst that an American could be called in the early days was a “Papist” as Catholicism was considered an evil not much better than a monarchist. Remember, both monarchy and Catholicism were mass murderers at that time. Later if a southerner was called a Yankee, why them was fightin’ words… literally as it turned out. Then there are the hardy, low and vile racial epithets we are all so familiar with. God forbid anyone was called an Irishman after the 1820s and we all know about our long, sad history with the black man in America.

The point I am making is that this “Hitler” thing is nothing new. You can pick any era in American history, any era, and you’ll find movements using the worst rhetoric with which to depict their opponents in order to put them in the worst light possible. There’s truly nothing new under the sun. Only the names have been changed to diminish the truth!

Tom Cross Intentionally Misleading on SB600

-By Warner Todd Huston

For years now thousands of rank and file Republicans have been trying to get SB600 passed in Springfield. This bill would allow us regular, lowly voters to actually vote for our GOP leadership on the GOP State Central Committee.

Unfortunately, Republican voters are not allowed to vote for their own leadership in Illinois. This good old fashioned way of electing leaders is not only truly American, but, heck, even the Democrats in Illinois have this capability! But we Republicans do not.

Great: One of the Most Violent Union Thugs Now Appearing With Thug Teachers in Wisconsin

-By Warner Todd Huston

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka has decided to flock to the side of thug Wisconsin teachers on Friday. This should not be much of a surprise. Trumka understands that this battle could serve to galvanize anti-union sympathies all across the country, and rightfully so. With the hate and “violent rhetoric” being employed by these thug teachers with very little legitimate provocation these teachers are quickly proving that they aren’t sympathetic figures. In any case, Trumka hopes to turn the sliding sympathies back in his favor.

It should also not surprise anyone that Trumka, one of the most vile, violent thugs in upper echelons of uniondom, has flocked to the side of unionistas that have employed some of the most vile rhetoric and characterizations of their enemy, the people of Wisconsin.

These Hatemongers Are in Control of Our Children!

-By Warner Todd Huston

In Wisconsin teachers are calling everyone that opposes them a Nazi, they are creating signs with crosshairs over the faces of their political enemies, like the grown-ups they are they are calling political foes “dicks,” calling Republicans “terrorists,” and saying that they “hate people.” And why all this vitriol from the Party whose president wants more “civility” in politics? Why because they are being asked to pay a few dollars more into their own healthcare each month, what else?

Doug Ross has a compilation of some 15 of the most egregious signs being toted around by the union thugs in Wisconsin.

New ACU Chief Al Cardenas Puts Ron Paul on Notice

-By Warner Todd Huston

The American Conservative Union (ACU) is the entity that runs the biggest annual conservative event, the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). Next year CPAC will be headed by a new face, Al Cardenas. Now former Chairman David Keene turns over the reigns to Cardenas after the 2011 CPAC event.

Cardenas has a compelling story, indeed. He was born in Havana, Cuba in 1948 and came to America in 1960 when his parents fled Castro’s communist takeover. Cardenas has been heavily involved in the Florida State GOP and he worked for Ronald Reagan’s campaigns in Florida starting in 1975.

I had an opportunity to interview Mr. Cardenas about his new role with the ACU and this naturally led to questions of the current controversies going on at CPAC. I focused on the Ron Paul fans that caused so much ruckus this year and Cardenas seemed to put the Paulites on notice that they may not be invited again.

At about 5 minutes into our interview I asked Cardenas about the disruptions that occurred specifically during the appearances of Vice President Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. Cardenas replied that, “those who decide to consciously breach [civility] maybe shouldn’t be part of CPAC and we’ll keep that in mind for the future.”

It sure seems as if Cardenas just put the Paulites on notice that they may not be invited next year.

CPAC 2011: Some Random Photos

[Note: I apologize for not posting the last few days. When I got back from Washington I was struck with the worst sickness I’ve ever had. Don’t know if it is developing into strep throat or pneumonia, but it’s hit me hard. I slept 1 hours last night! Haven’t done that since I was a kid. Coughing so hard I pulled a muscle under my ribs.]

I have a few photos of some of the notables I encountered at CPAC still sitting around, so this post is as good as any to get them posted, I suppose.

I know you’ll be shocked, but some of these photos have me in them, too! I can be such a fanboy sometimes. But there is a method to my madness. Years ago when I first started this blogging thing I wrote about meeting a big name politician (at this point I can no longer remember who it was) and I wrote a post about the interview. I immediately had some mope reply in the comments section that I never met the pol and was just making the story up.

So now, if it is possible, I take photos of me and which ever pol I meet to prove to the skeptical Internet tubules that I really was there!

… well, that’s as good a story as any, isn’t it?

Palin Gives Time A Few Minutes of Her Time About Its False ‘Reporting’

-By Warner Todd Huston

The media is so sure that only the worst about Palin could possibly be true that false stories, out right lies, and even comedy bits are constantly presented as actual news. Time Magazine is the latest to fall into that trap by reporting a satirical Internet posting about Sarah Palin as hard news. It all just goes to prove that Sarah Palin lives in the heads of the Old Media and it must be awfully cramped up there.

Last week on Time Mag’s Celebrity Newsfeed, Nick Carbone reported satire as fact only to make a “correction” days later. Carbone had fallen for a “tongue-in-cheek” Internet posting that joked that in an interview with Fox News personality Sean Hannity Palin said she wanted to deport Christina Aguilera for screwing up the National Anthem at the opening of the Superbowl.

CPAC 2011: Ron Paul’s Last Straw With YAF (Time for Paulies to Grow Up)

Ron Paul may have won the CPAC straw poll but he’s lost Young Americans for Freedom, a conservative, college Republican-style organization to which he used to belong. Just as the results of the straw poll were revealed YAF announced they were kicking Paul out of the organization.

This is a pretty big deal, too. If you aren’t aware, Paul served on YAF’s board of advisors for more than two decades, he’s commented positively about YAF on the floor of the House in the past, and was once awarded the Guardian of Freedom award, YAF’s top honor.

This break is a hard one, indeed, and it’s mostly over Paul’s simple-minded foreign policy ideas.

CPAC 2011 Photos — Cheney and Rumsfeld NOT Badly Treated

The first day at CPAC was quite interesting. I met Donald Rumsfeld, actress and comedienne Victoria Jackson, Newt Gingrich, Herman Cain, Rick Santorum, and several others.

One thing about yesterday that is being incorrectly reported is the reception that Donald Rumsfeld and former Vice President Dick Cheney received. Many reports are claiming that when Cheney mounted the stage to introduce Rummy he was booed by an almost equal number of attendees that clapped and cheered for him. This is incorrect. There were but a small smattering of boos and catcalls for Cheney. 90 percent of the crowd loved seeing him there.

Donald Trump appeared at CPAC 2011 for its opening day and told the crowd in his inimitably no-nonsense style why he would be a better president than Barack Obama… or any of the current crop of GOP candidates. He said he is not yet announcing, but he is seriously considering it.

The Ron Paulites seemed to disagree, however, that Trump would be better than any other possible candidate for president. And Trump’s reply: “You know Ron Paul can’t win, right?” This sent the Paulites in paroxysms of pain, hooting and hollering to beat the band.

VIDEO: Speeches Given at Illinois GOP Reagan Dinner Gingrich, Bolton, Kirk, Rutherford

-By Warner Todd Huston

Last weekend I attended the Ronald Reagan 100th birthday dinner held by the Illinois Republican Party. I filmed all the speeches given and I am finally done making the video for these speeches. I did not get Ill. GOP Chairman Pat Brady’s address, but I did get the others.

In order of appearance, the dinner featured Senator Mark Kirk, Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, Congressman Mike Pence, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton, and finally Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford.

I do not have Santorum’s comments here because he went on so long YouTube won’t accept my video upload because it is too long. If I remember, next week I will split his video in half and try again. Chicago talk show hosts Don Wade and Roma also appeared, but their bit was fluff and I did not bother recoding it.

The sound isn’t the best in the world, but it is at least intelligible.

Is Rafael Rivadeneira DuPage County’s Bad Hispanic?

-By Warner Todd Huston

The soap opera As the World Turns was canceled last summer, but apparently the political scene in DuPage County is trying to revive it. Well, if not the show than at least the drama. This one has a Hispanic twist, too. It comes in the person of conservative Rafael Rivadeneira, Tea Party favorite and President of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly of Illinois (“RNHA of Illinois”)…. or is he?

Over last weekend the RNHA held its annual convention in Dixon, Illinois. There Rivadeneira was reelected to the position of RNHA president. But apparently not everyone was happy with the outcome. OK, “not happy” is an understatement. Some were so mad that they spilt the event in half and marched over to another hotel and elected their own slate of leaders.

Now, that’s drama.

More Evidence that Centrists Democrats Are Dead

-By Warner Todd Huston

Ben Smith of POLITICO is reporting that the Democrat leadership Council is on it’s last paws and about to go belly up. This is one more little hint that the centrist, the moderate, or the “Blue Dog” Democrat is truly an extinct animal in America today. The Donkey’s big tent is more like a birdcage cover any more and apparently that cage holds only the red crested, double fisted, lefty bird.

The Democratic Leadership Council was the “iconic” centrist Democrat political organization founded during the Clinton years that had quite a lot of influence at the time. Many styled the DLC as the rebirth of the Democrat Party after the failures of the liberal wing in the 60s and 70s. But as the years have worn onward, there have been fewer and fewer centrist Democrats to be had with few of them in any position of power in Washington. With the Pelosi/Reid/Obama wing of the Democrats gaining power the Democrat Party itself has marched quickly toward the far left leaving the small coterie of Blue Dogs on the outside looking in.

Ronald Reagan: Father of the Tea Party

-By Warner Todd Huston

We are still living in Ronald Reagan’s era, despite the constant refrains from Democrats and the left that Reaganism is long dead. As we observe his 100th birthday, it is also beneficial to point out that in many ways Reagan is the father of the Tea Party Movement. It was his great success, his sunny optimism that gave the Tea Partiers the grounding and confidence that they could, indeed, make a difference.

Like many politically active people today, Ronald Reagan is my favorite president in my lifetime. For me, he was also the first president for whom I could vote and I did so with glee.

In fact, if it weren’t for Ronald Reagan I may well have entered my voting age with too much cynicism to overcome in order to make me feel invested in the system. I’d posit that this is true for most Tea Party patriots older than 40, too. I would also argue that the Reagan effect is responsible for giving Tea Partiers the feeling that they could affect government like Reagan did and that without Reagan there’d be no Tea Party movement at all.

Tennessee County School Board Fires Teachers Union

-By Warner Todd Huston

Now this is more like it. Back in October of 2010 the Summer County, Tennessee School Board decertified the Sumner County Education Association (SCEA), the union for county teachers, because it no longer satisfied the law by counting as members fifty percent plus one of the total number of employees requiring a teaching certificate. This, school board officials said, means that the SCEA can no longer engage in collective bargaining for teachers.

The school board has used this opportunity to immediately begin rewriting the relationship between teachers and schools.

Naturally, the union is running straight to what is usually the last bastion of mindless obeisance to union obstructionism, the courts, and is suing to force the school board to accede to union demands regardless of the law.
