Top Ten most Left-Biased American Journalists – #2: Joe Klein, Time Magazine

-By Warner Todd Huston

Second place looms large and it is quite an honorable — or maybe onerous — award on our top ten most left-biased working American journalists list. Amusingly our number two guy even graduated from a school that foretold his future work. From the bowels of New York’s exclusive Hackley School comes our number two most left-biased journo, Time Magazine’s Joe Klein.

Klein is another one of those far left writers that imagines himself to be unconventional in his politics when the truth is he is a left-winger all the way down the line without a scoshe of non-conventional thinking.

For instance, in his book ,The Natural, of his politics Klein wrote, “… the conventions of journalism prevent me from fitting too neatly into one political niche (although as a columnist for the New Yorker and Newsweek my predilections are obvious).” Far from not “fitting too neatly” into the left’s “niche” that niche fits him like a glove. For the better part of thirty years, Klein has been revealing his ill-fitting niche to the reading public and we couldn’t be more grateful for his niche-like, nichieness.

New Captain America Movie: Dear America, I’m Just Not That Into You

-By Warner Todd Huston

A few months ago I wrote an expose on Marvel’s Captain America comics number 602 in which the writers and artists of the book portrayed Captain America saying that Tea Party groups in America are racist and dangerous. It looks like the makers of next year’s Captain America movie in Hollywood have taken that Cappy-against-America theme for its new movie, too, because according to the film’s director this film will feature a Captain America that is “not a flag-waver.”

Comics fans have been eagerly awaiting the expansion of Marvel’s comics-based films with the ultimate fan dream of having a movie based on “The Avengers” comics — a series that teams Captain America, Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor, and several other heroes into a single fighting force. To get to that ultimate comic movie extravaganza, filmmakers are working up to it by introducing characters in stand-alone movies first. Iron Man was the first step toward that goal, with Thor and Captain America coming next.

Helping a Chicago Hero

At the end of June while walking a Chicago street, a Chicago musician heard the cries of a woman being assaulted and went to help. Matthew Leone, a bass player for a Chicago-based band named Madina Lake, found the woman being beaten by what turned out to be her abusive husband.

Like a good neighbor, Leone got between the two and stopped the beating. Unfortunately, when his back was turned, Leone was then assaulted by the much larger husband of the beaten woman. Leone was beaten pretty badly and ended up in the hospital with a swelling brain, a broken jaw, and many other injuries.

Leone is recovering, but his brain injuries have yet to heal. They even had to remove a large part of his skull so that the swelling would not damage his brain further.

You can see more of the details of Mr. Leone’s recovery and story at the Chicago Radio and Media website: Through the Pain — Coming to the Aid of a Chicago Hero.

And if you want to help, here’s how:

Top Ten most Left-Biased American Journalists – #6: Rick Sanchez, CNN

-By Warner Todd Huston

Continuing with our top ten most left-biased journalists working in America today, at number six we feature the redoubtable… or is it just doubtable… Rick Sanchez of CNN. Let’s face it, no list of Old Media left-wingers could be complete without the Ricker appearing on it somewhere!

Any casual observer would conclude that Sanchez has been a thorough wallower in left-wing bias for decades, even pushing his agenda on college kids.

Back in 2008 during the campaign for the election that gave us President Obama, Sanchez took his CNN cameras on the road to see how “America Votes, 2008.” Apparently, Sanchez thought “America” only cared about the left because that was all he was interested in pushing.

The Unappreciated Art of Soccer

-By Kevin Roeten

Fotbol (or soccer) has been deranged by everyone who says they don’t understand the sport. They say the scoring is always way too low, the game is boring, no hands are involved, it’s too long, and there’s never any instant gratification.

The highs and lows of the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament in South Africa this past month were obvious for those that watched. The refereeing was atrocious. The player ‘acting’ following many fouls that were committed and not committed, were noticeable in many cases.

Certainly one can understand the goings-on, and the nuances of a sport that can be magical, as well as intensely vicious. What is regarded as the most physically demanding sport to play …, Sports Illustrated says soccer is perhaps the most physically demanding sports ever. It is also played in all types of weather except for a severe lightning storm.

Midfielders typically run and sprint more than 7 miles per game. The most impressive plays are abrupt trapping of screaming passes, diving saves accomplished by the goalies, and incredible shots scored. This World Cup has not disappointed.

A Tale of Two Women

-By John Armor

“Important” events happened recently to two women. The relative attention paid and press coverage about the two tells a lot about where we are as a nation, and it isn’t good. The two women are Lindsay Lohan and Pam Murphy.

All of you know that Lindsay Lohan is a spoiled, self-centered, self-destructive twit who was just sentenced to 90 days in jail for multiple instances of contempt of court. But how many of you know who Pam Murphy was? Let’s not always see the same hands.

Pam Murphy was the widow of Audie Murphy, the most decorated US soldier from WW II. Here is how an article in Veterans Today on 10 April, 2010, described her:

Michael Moore Caught Stealing Others’ Work

-By Warner Todd Huston

Filmmaker Michael Moore, famed for his propagandistic left-slanted portrayals of America in such films as Roger and Me, Bowling for Columbine, and Sicko, is under fire for lifting the work of a writer from the Knoxville News Sentinel and reposting it on his own site in total despite that copyright laws disallow such a practice.

On his site Random Mumblings the News Director of Innovation for the Knoxville News Sentinel, Jack Lail, reported that Michael Moore lifted an entire story and its accompanying video production from his newspaper’s website and reposted it all on MichaelMoore.com. Not only did he lift the whole story (not just excerpts, but the whole thing) and take the video to repost it on his own site, Michael Moore did not add any new content and even re-processed the News Sentinel’s video to remove their logo from the screen.

The article’s original author, the Knoxville News Sentinel’s Frank Munger, alerted Lail to the thievery prompting Lail to contact Moore demanding it all be removed. For several days Lail’s demand was ignored as Moore has been known to thumb his nose at copyright laws and intellectual property rights. Finally, though, by July 12 the Moore website removed the offending pages. (For a screen shot of Moore’s website, see the post at Random Mumblings.)

Want Economic Stimulus? Don’t Build a Sports Stadium!

-By Warner Todd Huston

For the last few decades sports teams across the country have nosed up to the public trough and demanded that states and cities chip in millions for the construction of new sports stadiums. To justify the public expense the claim has been made that these monstrous construction projects bring a wealth of jobs and spending on entertainment and are a boon to any city that will fund them. But are they? Do these multi-million dollar projects bring such lucrative benefits to the cities and states that pay through the nose for them?

For many years the “economic boom” idea of building stadiums seemed to make sense and city after state pumped billions of taxpayer’s dollars into such projects. But starting in the early 2000s, economists began to have enough data to show that the claims of beneficial end result of building stadiums was not as advertised.

In fact, these days economists that disagree amongst each other about so much have developed a wide consensus based on the belief that sports teams in and of themselves are not great economic engines for a city and that building giant new stadium complexes are not the automatic boon to the area such as they were sold.

A Major Logical Flaw in Zombies

-By Warner Todd Huston

OK, you zombie movie fans, I have a question that reveals a logical flaw in zombies.

But first some points: zombies are putrid and falling apart, right? They don’t heal they just putrefy, right? Also, uncooked human skin is very rubbery and hard to bite off the bone easily, right? (take my word for it, it is) You need a good strong set of chompers to rip raw human flesh from the body.

OK, then, with that in mind how can zombies eat raw human flesh? If the rest of their bodies are falling apart how can they keep their teeth in their head long enough to tear human flesh apart? Wouldn’t their teeth be falling out and putrefying like the rest of their bodies?

It’s a logical flaw that ruins zombies for ME, anyway. Maybe I just ruined them for you, too?

The Pirates of Penzance updated

-By Ann “Babe” Huggett

One of the most astute and witty political and cultural journalists of our time, Mark Steyn, recently mocked President Obama as a “modern major generalist” in reference to Obama’s over-arching, bloodless speeches, pedantic dependence on failed political theory and tanking presidency. Steyn so enjoyed his pun that he used it again in a different article and who can blame him? It’s a brilliant observation but how many readers are even familiar with Gilbert & Sullivan’s song, I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major General, in particular and it’s operetta in general, The Pirates of Penzance?

Now, I am not going to go into the history, Victorian politics or plot of the The Pirates of Penzance or the artistic tensions and musical rivalries between Gilbert & Sullivan here. That is for the curious to find out for themselves. So my apologies to Gilbert & Sullivan but what I am going to do is, in my own way, bring their satiric observation of Peter Principle leaders up-to-date:

Olympics Subtly Lure Tots Into Paganism’s Embrace

-By Frederick Meekins

Over the past decade and a half or thereabouts, I have published occasional columns pointing out that there is more going on in terms of worldview at the Olympic games than good sportsmanship and keeping a stoic outlook no matter how disappointed one might be at the outcome of a particular event. These worldviews often come closest to public light in commemorations surrounding the games such as the opening or closing ceremonies.

For example, in an audio commentary I noted the blatant paganism at the 2006 games in Greece where the ancient gods were not so much depicted as curiosities of mankind’s religious history with the possibility of a few moral axioms derivable occasionally from these myths when approached as literature. Rather, adoration of these entities was approached as a viable system of belief around which humanity could draw ongoing sustain inspiration moving the world towards cultural unification.

For the most part, such ideological manipulation was aimed largely at a generalized audience irrespective of age. Now it seems Olympic organizers may have more carefully targeted their indoctrination efforts towards children.

Princess Leia Found Her Darth Vader: It’s You and Me

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, she’s a former alcoholic, drug addict, washed up actor, shock therapy patient (no, really) and one-time princess to the universe, but now Carrie “Princess Leia” Fisher can add one more calumny to her long list of off-kilter, personality deficits: she’s a “teabagger” hater. So, she’s got that going for her, which is nice.

Hawking another one of those prosaic celebrity tell-alls, Fisher spoke to the folks at the entertainment site PopEater.com and when the subject of Obama and the Tea Party movement came up, the one-time heartthrob of nerds everywhere didn’t hold back. They are all “racists” she said.

PoEater.com asked Fisher if she had met President Obama; she hadn’t but wanted to. And then they asked the leading question of the day: “Do you think Tea Party is just people who are pissed that there is an African American president?”

Warming to the presented theme, Fisher took the bait at warp speed.

A Wonderful Example of Fascism at Chicagoland Radio and Media Message Board

-By Warner Todd Huston

The fascist way that the left deals with opinion differing from its own is just one of the many reasons why the left in America today is so hypocritical. Aside from the oppressive aire of our Universities and colleges no better example of the quashing of opposing views can be seen than on Internet message boards. And on the Chicagoland Radio and Media website we have as perfect an example as one can find.

The altercation that revealed a leftist’s fascist fascination with quashing differing opinion happened in a discussion analyzing a Chicago radio station’s relative political bent. This altercation occurred between the owner of the board me, a fellow that goes under the fake name “Larz.” (I posted under my own, full name.)

Over the years I have become wary of anyone that refuses to use his proper name on the web. Though I have done so in the past myself, I have shied away from it as time has progressed. It’s one thing to be just a commenter on a site using a fake Internet handle, but when it comes to people that wish to run major websites anonymously, that always makes me suspicious of their motives and veracity. We start off right away with a deficit of trust when people run sites under cutesy names. And after seeing the skewed “opinion” of this “Larz” fellow, trust is definitely a forlorn hope.

As I was saying we were discussing the political leaning of one of Chicago’s largest radio stations. It is, of course, a lefty station. Now, it isn’t that the station is a politics talk station, it isn’t, its programming is more for lite entertainment than politics. But the station is in downtown Chicago and politics is naturally a common topic of discussion. In fact it is almost a daily topic with one host or all.

Publisher’s Warning Label: That Constitution and Declaration is No Longer Valid Thinking

-By Warner Todd Huston

A Virginia-based publisher has decided that the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and other founding books are likely offensive and they want their readers to understand that these old documents are no longer valid ways of thinking. And so the publisher, Wilder Publications, has put a warning label on its reprints of America’s founding documents and books to shield American’s delicate sensibilities.

The warning label reads, “This book is a product of its time and does not reflect the same values as it would if it were written today. Parents might wish to discuss with their children how views on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and interpersonal relations have changed since this book was written before allowing them to read this classic work.”

The warning labels appear on copies of the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Thomas Paine’s Common Sense, the Articles of Confederation, and the Federalist Papers, as well as other founding books and documents the company reprints.

A Review of Film ‘The Lottery’: ‘Heartbreaking,’ How Unions are Destroying Education

-By SkyBluez

(Ed’s note: Sky_Bluez is one of my favorite Twitter pals and she wrote a great review of The Lottery, the film we discussed on Tuesday. It was originally posted on her blog The Song Remains the Same.)

Last night I saw The Lottery a documentary about the problems with traditional public schools in disadvantaged areas. The film follows four families who enter the lottery to get a chance at having their child leave their low performing public schools in Harlem and the Bronx and attend a much better performing charter school. The documentary shines a light on how the local Democrat political establishment and teachers unions throw road blocks at every turn and make it extremely difficult for more of these well performing schools to be available for parents who want them.

The film is very well done. You can’t help but feel invested in these children as Ameenah translates for her deaf mother, or Christian gets frustrated working on his addition with his father, or Greg Jr. Laments not wanting to go to “house #2” to visit his dad in prison. All three of these children are raised by a single parent and face great hardship . Then there is Eric Jr. who has better circumstances. Eric has two involved parents. His father is a Union bus driver and mother is an aspiring teacher. This family is torn because they are union supporters, but still want the best for their children, which is not public school.

Obama’s Encounter With A Library

-By Dan Scott

After Paul McCartney’s classless swipe at former President George W Bush at an award ceremony hosted by Barack Obama, one has to wonder at the maturity of modern liberals. Are they 12 year olds or adults? Was this the behavior of an infantile child or a gentleman? The fact that Paul McCartney believed his comments would be accepted without reservation by his host, Barack Obama speaks to the measure of both so-called men. Why else would McCartney utter such tasteless and irrelevant comments at a ceremony to honor achievement? Did Barack Obama attempt to diffuse the inappropriate comment or otherwise do anything other than condone it with his silence? Not to anyone’s knowledge. The comment in question: “After the last eight years, it’s great to have a President who knows what a library is,” This is in reference to the liberal mythology that George W Bush was dumb. It’s amazing how stupid people can come off by drinking their own Kool-Aid.

Take a long hard look on the internet, use any search engine, do you find one mention listing Barack Obama’s grades? You can find the grades of George W Bush, Al Gore and John Kerry with little trouble. Notice how the The Washington Post and Boston Globe had no problems with obtaining university transcripts of George W Bush, Al Gore and John Kerry . Has there been any serious candidate for president in modern history that sealed their educational records in a deliberate attempt to conceal from the public the educational performance of a person who intends to be the leader of the US? Then why is Barack Obama allowed to conceal his academic performance? It should go without saying that a person who made average or better grades would have nothing to hide in their transcripts and academic life at public universities. What is he ashamed of that the public would find negative or give a less than positive light? Or has Barack Obama and the liberal mythmakers learned their lesson not to reveal actual facts that may undercut their false assertions? John Kerry and Al Gore both found out the hard way that George W Bush was as smart if not smarter than they were according to quantifiable academic performance standards when an actual inspection of grades were allowed. The underlying question is what makes a person smart or are we to be subjected to the immature childish braying of insecure people acting like they are in grade school?

Sir Paul McCartney, Deep as a Thimble

-By Warner Todd Huston

What is it with these left-wing entertainers that have to insult people while they accept their dubious awards? Why can’t these lefties just graciously accept an award and go about their business without going out of their way to let the world know about their politics? But once again, this time with Paul McCartney, we have an entertainer forcing his politics on the world in an inappropriate manner.

While accepting the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, McCartney decided that the celebratory air of the event was a good time make to fun of George W. Bush and pump up the Obammessiah.

“After the last eight years,” the former Beatle joked, “it’s great to have a president who knows what a library is.”

This from a guy whose entire songwriting career is well known to be as deep as a thimble philosophically speaking. And this is not to even mention that this is from a guy whose country voted Neville Chamberlain into office once upon a time!

Don’t Hurt the Loser’s Feelings: Kids Told Not to Win Games By Too Much

-By Warner Todd Huston

A kiddie soccer league in Ottawa is oh, so concerned about the feelings of its little players. These poor kiddies will just wilt and turn to mush if they lose by too much according to league officials. So, in order to protect the delicate feelings of Canada’s youngsters, league officials have implemented a rule that forces an automatic loss for any team beating another team by more than 5 goals.

Yes, you heard me right. A winning team will automatically lose if they are winning by more than 5 goals.

Now, I’d like to puff my chest and laugh at this Cannuckle-headed foolishness. I’d love to point up to the Great White North and scoff at their lack of manliness, their limp-wristed PCisms, their mindbendingly idiotic paean to “feeealwings.” Yes, I’d love to say that no American would ever stoop to such milquetoastiness. Unfortunately, Politically Correct halfwits infect both sides of the border, up there and down here alike, and we in the States have just as many numb-chucks as the Cannucks have Cannuckle-heads.

All White Swim Meet Celebrates 8 Years of Excellence

-By Warner Todd Huston

It’s smiles all around for the National White Heritage Swim Meet held since 2003 near Raleigh, Durham North Carolina. This year nearly 750 swimmers have come from as far away as Florida and Illinois to compete.

“Look at all the people,” said Kenny Cross of Raleigh. “This is where champions are born.”

The all white swim teams were created in an effort to raise interest in swimming in white people. Of course, everyone is welcome….

Wait. Does this make you uncomfortable? Does an all white swim meet make you uneasy and raise the specter of racism? Is it wrong to have an all white swim meet?

Only they aren’t… all white, I mean. They are instead all black.

Still feel the same way?

If not, why?

Werewolves of Texas

-By Ann “Babe” Huggett

For the malleable young, nothing beats having a role model to look up to and emulate. That’s why sports figures, rock musicians and celebrities need to be so circumspect in their lives. They’re not, of course, because it’s in their commercial interest to keep the current toxic popular culture churning away for their risk adverse, corporate masters. Scandals help to hide the lack of talent amongst the unoriginal, cookie-cutter star set while generating you-can’t-pay-for-this-type-of-publicity headlines sure to push off real news in favor of the mental cotton candy floss so beloved by commercial interests.

However, this type of decadent, inartistic slovenliness gets repetitiously boring after a while and a teen’s radar is exquisitely tuned to winnowing out the bogus from the merely banal. So what’s a poor teen looking for someone to pattern themselves after supposed to do? Our past heroes and heroines are either excoriated for not being politically correct, if they are even mentioned at all, or are considered so out-of-date as to be irrelevant. In fact, what with all this eco-greenie Gaia worship going on in our public schools, humans themselves are not only not held up as something worth while but actively despised for their respective and collective carbon footprints. Even that current socialist secular living saint, President Obama, is proving to have feet of clay for them because BP oil is still gushing into the Gulf of Mexico soiling US beaches, destroying Louisiana tide water ecosystems and killing untold numbers of marine and animal life all while he goes on yet another vacation and/or tees off at the nearest golf course.

We spoke of things political and had an all around good time. It is likely they’ll ask me back sometime in the future, as well, so maybe we’ll get a chance to do it all again.

Have a listen for yourself…

Roman Polanski, Pay Your Debt to Society

Paul A. Ibbetson

From the frills of the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, liberal elites from around the world stand in defense of convicted sex offender Roman Polanski. Polanski was charged and convicted in the late 1970s of having sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl and then fled the U.S. before his sentencing. Living as a fugitive from justice in the non-extraditing country of France, Polanski has continued with his filmmaking career until recently traveling to receive movie awards in Switzerland, where he was held on house arrest pending a potential transfer back to the U.S. for sentencing on his 1970s sex crime. As additional allegations of sexual misconduct are being leveled at the filmmaker, just what should be the emphasis of the Polanski story?

Unfortunately, this story is not about criminals that take the innocence from children and the triumphs and failures of the criminal justice system in penalizing such activities. In reality, the Polanski story is about the continual battle for supremacy between the liberal and conservative ideologies in the modern world. The United States, being framed with conservative values, has a criminal justice system, even with all its imperfections, that is constructed on the concept of personal accountability. Within our ideological system, Roman Polanski had not paid his debt to society when he fled to felon-friendly France. It is as simple as that.

Democrats Force Captain America to Flee America

-By Warner Todd Huston

California’s Democrats have forced the upcoming Captain America movie to be filmed in England. Why would that be, Buckey? Because it’s just too expensive to film the movie in California because of the Democrat’s punitive taxes.

For Yahoo Movies, Mike Ryan asks a seminal question: Should We Now Call Him ‘Captain England’? In his lament, Ryan worries over the U.S. film industry as movies and TV shows flee America, specifically California, for the cheaper production rates of Canada and England.

And now Democrats are so concerned with propping up union thugs, forcing themselves on the people at every avenue, and stealing as much money from the rest of us that they can that they’ve even chased Captain America away from America!

A Tale of Two Book Banners: Palin Ripped, Kagan Excused

-By Warner Todd Huston

Comparisons are always a great way to show how differently the Old Media treats conservative and leftist politicians in America today and Obama’s nomination of the Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court gives us another opportunity to see the Old Media’s penchant to excoriate a Republican’s actions while soft peddling and excusing away similar actions by a left-winger.

In this case, it is instructive to see how the Old Media treated the claim that Sarah Palin banned books from the Wasilla library when she was mayor and today how it is treating the recently highlighted Supreme Court arguments made by Elena Kagan that the government could ban books under the McCain-Feingold Act.

After McCain picked Governor Sarah Palin for his number two slot during the 2008 campaign for president the Old Media lit upon a story that said Sarah Palin tried to ban books from the Wasilla library when she was mayor there in 1996. A list of the supposedly banned books was even bandied about by the left-wing blogs causing a ruckus in the media but it turned out the list had books on it published years after Palin had left the Mayor’s office. The list was a fabrication and was lifted from a website that detailed the books that had been banned at one time or another, in one place or another, over the last 100 years.

As it turned out the whole story came from another former Wasilla mayor. He claimed that Palin had asked a Wasilla librarian “how she could go about banning books.” No books were banned, no list was made and Palin said she was asked by a constituent to look into how a book might be removed for its “objectionable material.”

Of AZ Law Football Player Tells Media: ‘I’m a Football Player It Doesn’t Matter What I Think’

-By Warner Todd Huston

As “Dirty Harry” Callahan said, “A man’s got to know his limitations.” Well it looks like Jets Quarterback Mark Sanchez knows his and his limitations are that he’s a football player, not a politician.

Like the lemmings they are, the left-wing Old Media asked this football player what he thought about the Arizona anti-illegal immigration law. His reply was admirable.

“When it comes to politics, my candid answer is, I’m football player and it doesn’t matter what I think,” he said in a transcript provided by the New York Jets. “The most important thing is you see both sides. I haven’t read the legislature, so I won’t pass judgment on it.

Would that more entertainers, singers, actors, sports folk and other such uninformed folks would keep their completely irrelevant opinions out of the public square.

It is usually so painfully obvious that these sort of people who have spent their whole lives single-mindedly striving for excellence in a single field of endeavor have NO clue about history, politics, philosophy, or anything outside their field of work – much less any ability at introspection. Yet they seem to think that because they have achieved some amount of fame for their chief interests or work, why just everyone wants to hang on their every word. The fact is, people should simply shut the heck up if they don’t have an informed opinion.

This Chick Does Flicks: Robin Hood

-By Ann “Babe” Huggett

Historical action flicks starring Russell Crowe are always a fun way to spend some spare time and, when your nearest neighbors out here in the high desert of Arizona have their second homes burglarized, going to see Robin Hood seems especially apt. However, if you are expecting a recounting of all the fun Robin Hood escapades of literary yore then turn on the TV and hope that the AMC Channel is doing a retrospective of Errol Flynn movies instead.

Quite frankly, director Ridley Scott’s 2010 version of Robin Hood is all over the board myth-wise and did I say, “historical”? How about ahistorical instead? While Hollywood is notorious for playing fast-and-loose with facts, at least modern day films try to make up for it with cultural anthropological accuracy. However, when a movie like Robin Hood expects us to believe that the French had 12th Century versions of WWII Normandy D-Day landing crafts or that it was perfectly normal for well-to-do ladies like Marion to don peasant garb or mix it up on the battle field in chain mail drag then it’s time to hang public school history teachers out to dry.

Or, as my British husband would say, “Ridley Scott was taking the mick out on his audience’s intelligence.”
