After The Elections: Where Is America Now? It’s Dead, That’s Where

-By Warner Todd Huston

Due to the re-election of Barack Hussein Obama, the United States is officially a failed experiment. In fact, his election in the first place in 2008 signaled the end.

Because so few of you people out there know anything about history any more, I’ll have to explain that opening line above. You see, the founders considered the United States an experiment in self-government. As Ben Franklin is said to have remarked upon leaving the first Constitutional Convention, the founders had given us a republic “if you can keep it.”

By that, Franklin meant that it would be up to our citizens to a). learn what the United States means, b). come to understand it’s philosophy and governing systems, and c). vote accordingly. We have now officially come to an era where only the tiniest handful of Americans have this understanding and the bulk of those voting are uninformed. Worse, they aren’t just uninformed, they are uninterested.

Oh, Barack Obama isn’t the cause of America’s failure. But he is the ultimate result. He is the result of a citizenry that knows nothing about its own country. He is the result of citizens that no longer care about their country and only care about themselves.

Barack Obama is the ultimate example of how anti-American the Democrat Party is today. The Democrats oppose nearly every single truly American principle that the founders gave us.

Democrats oppose the supremacy of the U.S. Constitution
Democrats oppose personal responsibility
Democrats oppose free speech
Democrats oppose the Second Amendment
Democrats oppose morality and religion
Democrats oppose the rule of law and wish instead to rule by fiat
Democrats oppose the sanctity of life
Democrats oppose education and instead support indoctrination
Democrats oppose business
Democrats oppose liberty and freedom and support totalitarianism
Democrats oppose sovereignty and support international rule
Democrats oppose our national security

In short, Democrats think the United States is a cancer on humanity and they wish to damage it permanently.

Jonathan Chait, NY Magazine: Obama The Best Prez Evah!

-By Warner Todd Huston

Jonathan Chait has made his choice for 2012. Unsurprisingly, it’s Obama. But wait, there’s more. Chait decided to tell us exactly why he chose Obama in a recent column for New York Magazine and his reasons makes his endorsement one of the great howlers of the year. Chait tells us that Obama is one of the greatest presidents of all time. “Yes, Great,” he reiterates.

To start with, Chait distances himself from the hopey-changie set saying that even though he was one of Obama’s earliest supporters he was never one of those mind-numbed Obamabots that thought Obama was a messiah that would “change everything.” Chait is no fool, see?

But, despite that he claimed not to be an Obama zombie, Chait goes on to make it appear that he did, indeed, fall for all the rhetoric because in reviewing the last four years, Mr. Chait sees nothing but great success from President Obama.

“Obama’s résumé of accomplishments is broad and deep, running the gamut from economic to social to foreign policy,” Chait assures us before launching into a dubious assessment of all those “accomplishments.”

Chait’s column is quite long, so I wont go into every claim he makes, but there are a few that are just blatant for the rose colored glasses Chait seems to be wearing while writing his column.

For one, Chait feels that Obama’s banking “reforms” were somehow middle of the road efforts, neither left nor right. He praised Obama for taking ideas off “think-tank shelves” and in a “frenetic burst of activity” he “made many of them happen all at once.”

VOTE FRAUD: Vir. Dem’s Field Director Conspires to Commit Voter Fraud, Forge Docs

-By Warner Todd Huston

Jim Moran is an extremist, liberal Congressman from the state of Virginia and it appears that his campaign office thinks perpetrating vote fraud is a very good idea. So good that Moran’s campaign field director, his son Patrick, conspired with the undercover camera of James O’Keefe to commit vote fraud through forged documents and other violations of the law.

This is pretty blatant. If this guy is doing this so easily, how often is this going on in every other Democrat campaign office? You can bet its a daily occurrence.

The Watchdog has a lot of great information on these Moran folks.

Key points:

The reporter goes to Moran, says he has a list of 100 people who haven’t voted, and asked for names of people that could help him pull it off. Moran discusses creating utility bills in Word. From pages 3-4 of the transcript:

Ohio: Sen. Sherrod Brown is Stifling Big Government’s Best Friend

-By Warner Todd Huston

Hey, Ohio, Senator Sherrod Brown is just not working. He’s one of the most extreme, left-wing Senators in Washington and his constant rubber stamping of Obama’s worst, big government boondoggles is hurting the Buckeye State’s economy, not to mention the country.

I have to say, that ad is pretty funny.

Senator Brown has been awarded the dubious distinction of being the most liberal Senator in the nation. Even the left-leaning National Journal said that Brown is on a “liberal crusade.”

Damning Video: Democrat Voters Hate Obstructionist Politics… Unless They Are Doing it

-By Warner Todd Huston

To be a Democrat means to be a liar. Here we have a group of average, everyday Democrat voters who tell this videographer that they hate Republicans because those wascally Republicans are obstructionists and have tried to block everything Emperor Obama has tried to do in office. But when asked if they think Democrats should cross the aisle to work with Romney should he win in November… well, just watch the hypocrisy unfold…

Liars one and all.

Proof Positive that Democrats Have Morphed into an Un-American Party

-By Warner Todd Huston

One of the main themes of this fetid Democrat Convention is that we, the citizens of the United States of America, belong to the government. This is one of the most un-American ideas I’ve ever seen adopted by a major, important American political party.

The whole point of the United States of America was that we the people owned our government. The founders did not start this country with the ideal that the government owned the people. In fact, they were adamant that this not be the case.

You see, the founders knew that a government that imagines that its citizens are its property is a despotic one, indeed. In fact, the founders had a controversy right at the outset of their new nation’s birth, one not of their own making but one that both proved the point of the danger of tyranny and threatened to snuff out their nascent union. That thing was slavery.

Actor Will Smith Loves Taxes, But NOT French Taxes

-By Warner Todd Huston

Back in May Actor Will Smith recently appeared on a TV show in France when the subject of taxes was brought up. Smith piously proclaimed how he loves taxes because he wants to help his country. But then he was told how much new French President Francois Hollande wants to levy on France and, well, suddenly taxes weren’t so great as far as Smith was concerned.

You see, President Hollande has proposed that anyone that makes over a million Euros should pay a tax rate of 75%. This made Will Smith practically choke.

Will Smith: I have no issue with paying taxes and whatever needs to be done for my country to grow. I believe very firmly that my ability to sit here—I’m a black man who didn’t go to college, yet I get to travel around the world and sell my movies, and I believe very firmly that America is the only place on Earth that I could exist. So I will pay anything that I need to pay to keep my country growing. . . .

Interviewer: Do you know how much in France you would have to pay on earnings above one million euros [under new French President Francois Hollande’s proposal]? Not 30%. 75%.

Smith: I… not 30, 75?! Yeah, that’s different, that’s different. Yeah, 75. Well, you know, God bless America.

Smith’s reaction is priceless, really. He was all about paying his fair share until the socialist French decided that his fair share should be 75%!

Hilarious.

Milton Friedman’s Legacy of Fighting for School Choice for All

-By Amy Payne, Heritage Foundation

On the late Milton Friedman’s 100th birthday today, his words are truer than ever: “There is no respect in which inhabitants of a low-income neighborhood are so disadvantaged as in the kind of schooling they can get for their children.”

And the news from many parts of the country is disheartening. Despite a new school choice option for students in Louisiana, a teachers union there has threatened to sue private schools that accept voucher students this fall. Unions have fought school choice initiatives because they see options for students eroding their power structure.

The Administration is also fighting students’ best interest. Instead of promoting what works—school choice, empowering parents and students—President Obama just issued an executive order last week creating a new federal bureaucracy to single out African-American students for more government meddling in their education. The order states that:

substantial obstacles to equal educational opportunity still remain in America’s educational system. African Americans lack equal access to highly effective teachers and principals, safe schools, and challenging college-preparatory classes, and they disproportionately experience school discipline and referrals to special education.

The new White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans is supposed to “help expand educational opportunities, improve educational outcomes, and deliver a complete and competitive education for all African Americans.”

Solyndra Republicans, Why the GOP Cannot be Trusted

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Friday, July 20, Politico reported that GOP leadership in the House beat back an attempt by recalcitrant members of their own caucus to continue to quietly support the sort of pork spending that gave us Solyndra in the first place.

House GOP leadership has been beating the Democrats up for the pure wasteful spending that was Democrat support for the now bankrupted “green energy” company Solyndra. But a few Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee wanted to buck the anti-bailout theme and quietly keep the spending program that allowed the “loans” to Solyndra to continue.

According to Politico:

At least three House Energy and Commerce Committee Republicans had publicly expressed reservations about the GOP-backed “No More Solyndras Act” during the past week. They griped, to varying degrees, about a provision that would effectively end the loan guarantee program — and argued that it needs to be reformed, not killed.

As Politico noted, the Wall Street Journal also lambasted these Republicans calling them the “Solyndra Wing” of the GOP and chiding them for loving corporate welfare.

The three Republicans hoping to re-open the corporate welfare spigot are Joe Barton (Texas), Michael Burgess (Texas), and Phil Gingrey (Georgia).

So, as we can see here, there is a large and powerful block of the GOP that is fully in support of the sort of disgusting, un-American waste, and pork barrel spending that results in such programs as the “loan guarantees” that sent millions of U.S. tax dollars into the black hole that is Solyndra — a company that will never pay back the so-called loans afforded it by Democrats wishing to help Obama campaign contributors.

Elizabeth Warren Lies or is She a Victim of ‘Right-Wing Smear Machine’?

-By Warner Todd Huston

No one is responsible for their lies, if they are liberals, anyway. We see this axiom at play again in the Massachusetts Senate race where Democrat candidate Elizabeth “Faux-Cahontis” Warren — who has for decades made her fortune and gained professional success in part for falsely claiming she has native American ancestry — is now being called a victim of the “right-wing smear machine.”

Apparently, Warren’s apologists are now saying that her decades of lies and wealth building of a false claim isn’t her fault. The whole darn mess is just a result of those mean ol’ right-wingers.

Already we’ve been treated to Warren’s statement that the whole issue is an attack by “a right wing extremist .” This claim was made after the candidate refused to meet with representatives of the real Cherokees who demanded Warren meet with them to explain her false claims of being one of them.

Yes, ObamacareTax IS the Biggest Tax in American History

-By Warner Todd Huston

Lefties everywhere have hastened to try and absolve the ObamacareTax claiming that it really isn’t the largest tax in American history despite that conservatives say it is. What is their proof? Well, as a percentage of GDP ObamacareTax is smaller than other taxes we’ve instituted in the past. This, statistic, though, is quite misleading.

LoudTalkerBlog has crunched the numbers, but the chief take away is in this chart, and, yes, it is the largest in total cost ever:

Talker goes on to detail why the ObamacareTax is the biggest ever.

But, if you look at the raw dollars of the deal, again using Drum’s numbers, the cost of Obamacare is $71.18 billion dollars. (0.49% x 2010 GDP of $14.526B). That would make it the largest tax increase ever. The second highest dollar amount in the list? Clinton’s 1993 tax increase of $33.34 billion, which is less than half of the Obama tax increase. Third would be GHW Bush and fourth Reagan.

Worse, those lefties that are claiming it isn’t the biggest tax ever are leaving out all sorts of aspects to ObamacareTax in order to make its impact smaller.

In other words, they lie.

No surprise.

Texas Attny Gen on SCOTUS Obamacare Decision: ‘The American People Lost’

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Monday, July 2, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbot participated in a conference call sponsored by Americans for Prosperity – Texas to talk Obamacare and how it affects the states. During that call, AG Abbot said “the American people lost” as a result of Chief Justice John Roberts’ decision. He also said the decision “threatens prosperity” as much as any Supreme Court ruling ever has.

Abbott warned that the determination that Obamacare is now a tax, the biggest tax increase in American history, is “a threat to all of us.” He noted that the ruling is “a tax on liberty itself” because now Congress seems to have been given the power to tax inactivity rather than activity.

“The New Taxing Authority will Empower Congress in an almost unlimited way,” Abbott said.

Abbott utilized the same car analogy that many have used since last Thursday to explain why this ruling is dangerous. Congress may now be able to tax people for not buying “green” cars, the AG said.

Congressman Joe Walsh Has a Message for the Illinois GOP and America

-By Warner Todd Huston

Is Congressman Walsh Making a Populist Run for Illinois Governor?

Joe Walsh is not a rock star like Joe Walsh. Joe Walsh (the Congressman) is not Joe Walsh (The rock singer from the 1970s band The Eagles) yet both were in town this weekend working political ends. Singer Joe Walsh was stumping for Democrat Tammy Duckworth, a practically vacant, establishment Democrat who is good for little else but spewing talking points it doesn’t seem she fully grasps, while Congressman Joe Walsh was across town warning voters at a well attended townhall that thanks to Obamacare, the 2012 election may be our last chance to save America. (http://walsh.house.gov/)

Walsh was in the Elk Grove area to talk chiefly about the historic and historically bad Supreme Court decision that gave Obama a win on his nationalization of America’s healthcare industry. So, Obamacare was the big topic this day.

“I was overwhelmed by the close to 400 people who turned out for today’s forum,” Congressman Walsh stated. “It was clear from the crowd that this decision was not only historic, but also tragic. It’s even more clear that the only way to repeal this unpopular law is to do so legislatively. This health care plan is a job killing bureaucratic mess that is now recognized by the Supreme Court as a massive tax on the struggling middle class. I have made it clear that getting Americans back to work and repealing the President’s health care plan are my top priorities.”

More on healthcare in a moment, but first, after the townhall I had the chance to ask the Congressman some questions about his ideas and his campaign for reelection to his 8th District Congressional seat.

At the outset of our interview, Congressman Walsh had some very stern words for the Illinois Republican Party. In fact, he said the Illinois GOP is currently part of the problem, not the solution.

Here is a transcript of Walsh’s warning to the Illinois GOP.

Fox News Brit Hume: ‘Republican Brand’ In ‘Terrible Shape’

-By Warner Todd Huston

You can’t call Fox News Commentator and Senior Political Analyst Britt Hume a shill for the Republican Party, especially after slapping the Republicans for having a brand name that is in “terrible shape” on the June 24 episode of Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. Even after the bad several weeks the Democrats have had, Hume still felt the need to kick the legs out from under the Republicans.

Not only did Hume smack around the Republicans for their bad PR but he also warned that the GOP could suffer some backlash, or end up in “overreach,” with the Fast and Furious investigation.

No wonder Republicans can’t get ahead when even Britt Hume won’t give them credit where it is due while scolding them despite how badly Democrats have been doing of late.

Hume also noted that Republicans looked bad during the debt ceiling debate last year — even as he noted that the party was, as a whole, doing exactly what it promised to do with the debt ceiling.

Democrat’s Newest Attack on Free Political Speech With Willing Assistance by Media

-By Warner Todd Huston

What would you say if a Koch Brothers, right-wing effort was pushed on Americans with the knowing assistance of National Public Radio — and big money was paid to NPR for the effort? Would you say that this is an outrage, that NPR’s use of public airwaves to push a right-wing policy idea is a misuse of the journalist’s charge as well as our national airwaves? Well, that is exactly what happened but with a left-wing idea, the policy of so-called campaign-finance reform.

A whistleblower whose career was built on pushing left-wing, anti-free speech campaign donation limitation laws recently blew the lid off the subterfuge that backers of legislation like the disastrous McCain-Feingold campaign-finance law perpetrated to get their way in Washington.

The whistleblower, Sean Treglia, reports that players in this tale of smoke and mirrors were such left-wing foundations as the Pew Charitable Trusts and the Carnegie Corporation, as well as magazines like the liberal The American Prospect, and “news” organizations like National Public Radio.

Of course, it would be one thing if these liberal organizations, magazines and news groups were pushing a left-wing ideal because they truly believed such policies were the best medicine for our troubled political atmosphere, but apparently mere altruistic advocacy is not what went on here. Big, big money was given by these liberal groups to media outlets to help affect these political goals.

Chirpify: A New Twitter Political Fundraising Tool Debuts Today

-By Warner Todd Huston

A new Twitter-based fundraising tool debuts today and the new service already has the two biggest names in the Politics biz signed up as clients: Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. Chirpify begins at the top of the heap client-wise as it not only has teams Obama and Romney signed up as clients but it also has some 25 House and Senate candidates.

The new Twitter-based fundraising tool will incorporate Paypal into its payment system and will feature an easy, one-click interface that will make it easy to donate to political candidates, non-profit organizations, and presumably anyone that signs up to use the service. It’s seems to be a very easy transaction for the donor, too.

We all know that politicians and candidates are using Twitter more than ever. But what many wondered is what the social networking tool could do for the campaign’s bottom line?

What Happened at the Illinois GOP Convention? Mostly Status Quo, But…

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Illinois Republican Party held its 2012 Party Convention this weekend. On the docket was addressing some asked for rules changes and picking a slate of delegates to the GOP national convention to nominate Mitt Romney to carry the Party’s banner in the upcoming presidential election. My ultimate analysis is that this was a status quo convention, but signs show that the status quo might not be too long for this world.

Two things first, here. One, I have to state up front that I intended to be a delegate from my district at the Illinois GOP convention. I registered as such and was accepted by my man Tim Schneider of the Hanover Republicans, but forces outside of politics (in other words, real life) prevented me from participating to the fullest extent. Regardless, I wanted to let you know of my intentions upfront so that you can see that I am not just a disinterested bystander in this deal.

Two, if you want a blow-by-blow account of the many great speeches, see Cal Skinner’s report at McHenry County Blog. I will mention a few things, but won’t do the speech-by-speech analysis. Skinner covered that very well so I don’t feel the need to cover that ground again.

Rep. Aaron Schock plies the crowd after his address

Now, The single most controversial issue that was on the docket was the decision to initiate direct elections. For instance, there are many Republicans who want to change how the members of the State Central Committee are selected. Currently they are appointed by the committeemen but many voices in the party want to change that. They want these party leaders to stand for election (like the Democrats do, incidentally) instead of being appointed by the votes of the committeemen. This issue has been in debate throughout the state for several years already and I’ve covered that debate many times. (Check my out old coverage of SB600 using the search feature)

I am told that several attempts were made by various committeemen to get this issue its due during Friday’s Committee meetings. The issue failed in committee on Friday, but a spirited debate continued that afternoon, anyway. Ultimately, John Parrot of Congressional District 15 attempted to get the direct elections issue brought to the convention floor on Saturday for discussion and a vote as a separate issue. Instead party leaders decided to allow a “yea” or “nay” vote on Saturday.

CPAC Chicago, Part 4: Joe Walsh, Randy Hultgren, Straw Poll Results

-By Warner Todd Huston

Finally, in part four we’ll hear from two solid Illinois Congressmen, the 8th District’s Joe Walsh and Randy Hultgren of the 14th. We’ll also hear the, perhaps not startling results of the straw poll, the most important question from which was who Romney should pick for his vice presidential candidate (hint, the top picks weren’t any of his one-time rivals for the nomination).

Congressman Joe Walsh

Rep. Joe Walsh gins up the crowd

Joe Walsh of the Illinois 8th District is the one Congressman that the left wants to eliminate more than any other Republican Congressman. This is because Joe has carved out from among his fellows an outsized voice for conservatism. He appears regularly on TV and radio to tout the conservative message. But he’s become a major target of Democrat redistricting and now faces a tough challenge to be reelected in his newly reconfigured 8th District. Me, I think he can easily beat the know-nothing candidate the Democrats have put up against him, but Joe is taking nothing for granted.

One thing is sure, though, Joe Walsh knows how to get a conservative audience in motion.

CPAC Chicago, Part 3: Bobby Jindal, Peter Roskam, Michele Bachman

-By Warner Todd Huston

In part three of our series we’ll take a look at the speeches of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, Illinois Congressman Peter Roskam, and Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota. Bachmann’s speech was quite interesting for its singular focus on a particular jihad-supporting Muslim group that is operating in America today. Bachmann was vehement that Obama ban this group.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal

Gov. Bobby Jindal on the main stage

Jindal is another favorite of the greater conservative movement. He has a very compelling story of immigrant parents that came to America to become part of this great nation to finally see their little son become the most powerful man in their adopted state. It’s the perfect American story, for sure.

Speaking of stories, Jindal has a lot of them especially where it concerns his involvement in the BP Oil spill from 2010. I’ve seen Jindal relate this tale several times and it is always a good one. His description of how the federal government was more interested in observing its silly OSHA than deal quickly with the emergency before them was telling and hilarious — though ultimately sad and infuriating. Since this is standard stump speech stuff of Jindal’s, though, I did not Tweet that segment.

Like the others Jindal started praising the Walker win in Wisconsin. One of his funniest lines was that all the news people were proclaiming that the vote would be so close that it would be a long night for Wisconsin as they tallied the votes. But reality proved that the whole thing was over in a matter of hours with Walker’s landslide. Instead of it being a long night for Wisconsin, Jindal joked that it was instead a “long night at Obama headquarters in Chicago!”

CPAC Chicago, Part 2: Richard Mourdock, Chris Christie, Herman Cain

-By Warner Todd Huston

In part two of my coverage of CPACs first Midwestern conference event, we will see some of the high spots of the floor speeches of Indiana Senate Candidate Richard Mourdock, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie – always a crowd favorite – and the redoubtable Herman Cain. Cain also visited the media room and I have video of that below the fold.

Indiana Senate Candidate Richard Mourdock

Richard Mourdock is the current Indiana State treasurer but he also just defeated long-time incumbent Senator Richard Lugar for the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate from Indiana. He’ll face the Democrat come November. Mourdock has been widely touted as the insurgent Tea Party candidate that beat Lugar, the old line, establishment man.

“No one expected a lowly state treasurer could take out a 36-year Senator! But we DID,” Mourdock said triumphantly.

Mourdock also noted that Senator Chuck Schumer of New York has called him the “Hoosier headache.” Mourdock was rather proud of that appellation.

CPAC Chicago, Wisconsin Praised, Obama Razed — Part One: Rick Santorum, Ron Johnson

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, Friday evening, June 8, 2012, we marked the end of the first CPAC event held in Chicago and what a great event it was. The triumph in Wisconsin was on everyone’s mind but so was Obama’s dismal record. Not just dismal, but according to several speakers, even dangerous. The economy and the election of Romney were focal points but so was foreign policy this day. One theme, though, was constant: Obama has to go.

Because of other things going on and the several press availability sessions, I didn’t catch every speaker in the main hall, but I did hear the speeches of (in this order) former Senator Rick Santorum, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson, Indiana Senate Candidate Richard Mourdock, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Illinois Representative Peter Roskam, Minnesota Representative Michelle Bachmann, and Illinois Representatives Joe Walsh and Randy Hultgren. I also heard and recorded the press availability sessions of Herman Caine, Peter Roskam, and Michelle Bachmann and I caught most of Kansas Representative Tim Huelskamp’s.

Other notables whose speeches I missed were Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, Heritage Foundation President Ed Feulner, and Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback.

The event was a great success with well over 2,000 participants, all seats filled for the most part during the speeches and some great groups like the United Republican Fund, the Illinois Policy Institute, the Heartland Institute, Champion News, and others hosting and participating.

I’ll say a few words about the speakers I did see in the order I saw them and I’ll do this in a few installments so that this won’t be one long, overly taxing post. Now, as each of these speakers appeared before us I live Tweeted their comments, so the following quotes are pulled from my Twitter feed.

But before I do that, each speaker was quite enthusiastic over the win of Governor Scott Walker who defeated an effort by the far left and their union overlords to recall him in Wisconsin. Each speaker praised Walker and crowed about the left’s loss in there. I won’t regurgitate the Wisconsin hunk of each speaker as they were pretty much all the same; exuberant. The essential point was that we are all cheeseheads now.

Rick Santorum

Rick Santorum on the main stage

Former Pennsylvania Senator and recent GOP Presidential candidate Rick Santorum gave one of his well-crafted, typically workman-like speeches. One of Santorum’s early points was that America is at a “tipping point” and we’d better be there to tip it in the right direction.

Equal Pay? More Like Special Payoffs to Trial Lawyers

-By Warner Todd Huston

Democrats and left-wing activists have lately been pushing the idea of “equal pay” for women in an attempt to find some issue that would take attention away from the horrible economic record of the Obama administration as the campaign for the White House heats up. But who really benefits from this push? Trial lawyers, of course.

This week the Democrats tried to float the “Paycheck Fairness Act,” but it failed in the Senate in a 52-47 vote.

So what would this act do? As Andrew Stiles reports:

The “Paycheck Fairness Act” would have established unlimited punitive damage claims in class action lawsuits filed against employers in instances of alleged gender discrimination. The chief beneficiaries of the bill, experts told the Washington Free Beacon, would not have been female workers but the lawyers and law firms that would litigate the lucrative lawsuits made possible by its passage.

Naturally trial lawyers have given more than $230 million to federal political candidates with the largest amount going to Democrats — $132 million to Senate democrats alone.

Racine Tea Party Rally for Scott Walker/Kleefisch (Also Paul Ryan, Dana Loesch, Tony Katz, More)

-By Warner Todd Huston

This morning I got up bright and early, jumped into the car and took a drive up into Wisconsin to witness the Racine Tea Party rally in support of Wisc. Governor Scott Walker. Speakers included the lovely Rebecca Kleefisch (Wis. Lt. Gov.), Rep. Paul Ryan, State Senator Van Wanggaard, Talk Show Host Tony Katz, Breitbart Editor Dana Loesch and more.

Racine Tea Party Main Stage

It was a beautifully sunny day, perfect temperature, a nice breeze swept over those 3,000 or more gathered, and, in fact, you couldn’t ask for a better out doors experience. But beyond the wonderful weather was the upbeat enthusiasm bubbling up from crowd and speakers alike. This was no down in the dumps group. They were ebullient and thrilled to be out and active for the conservative cause.

The crowd as seen from the main stage

Sign: “Republicans are Makers Democrats are Takers”

This recall election is a total sham. For one thing it is practically illicit. The Democrats never gave Walker a chance to do anything before claiming he needed to be recalled for cause. They’ve abused the recall law, too. Officials are supposed to be recalled for malfeasance in office, not mere political temper tantrums. One way to prove that these leftists violated the spirit of the law is the recall Walker website was registered the same day Walker was elected!

Yet, curiously enough there was no hate spewed — though certainly opposition expressed. There was also no upside down American flags, no communist propaganda, no signs with anyone called “Hitler,” and on top of all that there wasn’t a scrap of garbage left on the ground after everyone left. Not much like an Occupy Whatever rally, eh?

The morning started with the Americans For Prosperity bus pulling in and a short address by AFP President Tim Phillips who was introduced by California talk show host Tony Katz. Katz also emceed the later Racine rally, as well.

Democrats Violate Equal Pay for Women, Lilly Ledbetter Betrayed

-By Warner Todd Huston

As one of his first official acts, President Barack Obama made a great show of his deep concern for the idea of equal pay for women by signing the Lilly Ledbetter Act, a bill that was supposed to solve that inequity. Sadly, it appears that Obama and his Democrats are only interested in forcing private industry to observe equal pay for women while refusing to hold themselves to that high standard.

In 2009 Obama got a lot of credit for how much he cares about women yet by April of 2012 a study of what women were being paid in his White House showed they were being paid less on average than the men in his office.

But it isn’t just Obama’s hypocrisy that has come to light on the issue of equal pay for women in government. A new survey of the pay of staffers of Senate Democrats shows that they too are paying their workers less than they pay men.

The Free Beacon looked into the pay of Senate staffers and found that 37 Democrats staffers pay females in their offices less than they pay male employees.

Media Ignores Warren Plagiarizing, Went Nuts Over Claims of Scott Brown’s

Apparently in 1984 Warren supplied several “old family recipes” to the “Pow Wow Chow cookbook,” edited by her cousin. Turns out these “family recipes” where just lifted from various cookbooks and newspaper articles of the era. She appears to have plagiarized them.

Will the media note that Warren plagiarized recipes from other cookbooks, claimed they were “family recipes,” and then signed them “Elizabeth Warren – Cherokee”? Probably not, but the Old Media went ga ga when they thought her opponent, Senator Scott Brown, plagiarized something.

For Warren’s part, Leahy notes that several of her “family recipes” were copied word-for-word from a New York Times News service piece published in 1979. Boston-based talk show host Howie Carr also found that several of her recipes appear to have been plagiarized. (Here, here, and here)

VIDEO: Senator Mark Kirk on His Rehabilitation ‘Walking Program’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Kirk really sounds good for having had a stroke only 15 weeks ago. I am so relieved to see him doing so well and in such seeming mental competence.

He made a very interesting video about his status…

He has a long way to go, of course, but he seems willing and able.

We here at the blog wish him good health and success in his recovery.

Michael Mukasey’s Excellent Argument Against Obamacare

-By Warner Todd Huston

On April 20, Michael Mukasey appeared before the Republican Lawyers Association’s National Policy Conference and C-SPAN cameras were there to record his discussion of the conference theme: Restoring a Government of Laws: The Obama Administration v. The Constitution.

Mukasey, the former Bush Administration Attorney General, headlined a half hour discussion — which included a Q&A session — and offered one of the more cogent explanations I’ve seen of why Obamacare is so wildly unconstitutional.

The whole presentation is worth watching but one of his answers during the Q&A segment was particularly important.

One of the attendees asked if Mukasey regale tell them with his hypothetical argument in support of Obamacare. Mukasey joked that his supporting argument would be “an extraordinarily short opinion,” but his more detailed answer actually presented a concise argument to the opposite; why Obamacare is simply unconstitutional. (At about 25 minutes into the segment)

Bankrupting America Launches Online Advocacy Campaign Urging Senate to Vote on a Budget

From Bankrupting America…

ARLINGTON, VA – Bankrupting America, a project of Public Notice, today announced a multipronged online educational advocacy campaign leading up to the three-year anniversary since the last time Congress passed a budget. The campaign includes a web video, online advertising, a Twitter hashtag campaign and a grassroots call to action urging the Senate to pass a budget.

Congress last passed a budget on April 29, 2009, almost three years ago. Since then, Members of Congress from both parties have failed to work together to perform one of the federal government’s most basic functions.

Gretchen Hamel, executive director of Public Notice, issued the following statement announcing the campaign:

No, Left-Wingers, the ‘Founders’ Did NOT Approve of Mandates or Obamacare

-By Warner Todd Huston

Every few weeks leftist supporters of Obamacare will float the “fact” that our founders passed the first “national healthcare law” claiming that this supports Obamacare. The truth is, though, the history they claim supports them doesn’t in any way prove that the founders would approve of mandates in general or Obamacare in particular.

This failed historical analogy is once again seen this month in the prattling of one Einer Elhauge, a fellow who claims himself the title of a professor at Harvard Law School. If his recent article in The New Republic is any indication of the level of history he teaches students, we have yet another example of our failed state of higher education.

Elhauge makes two failed analogies to history in his support of Obamacare. One is the 1792 law that required men to own a firearm. This law passed by many members of our founding generation — with only four opposing the mandate — proves, Elhauge claims, that mandates were not something the founders would oppose.

Elhauge’s claim is facile, of course. After all, we had no standing army at the time (in fact the founders were vehemently against a standing army) and the whole of the people in the form of the militia were the army.

So, requiring people to own firearms was, at the time, observing the Constitutional mandate to protect the nation. Helthacre is not something in the Constitution and cannot be construed as such, so Elhauge’s extrapolating military matters to Obamacare is absurd o its face.

Then there is the sailor relief act that lefties have been harping on for several years now claiming that it supports Obamacare. This, too, is a facile comparison cynically and illicitly used to explain away Obamacare.

Arrogant Democrats Think They Have Role to ‘Protect’ Titanic Wreck Site

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Titanic sunk 100 years ago this year. The great ship went down in international waters as a vessel of British registry. When it went down the United States was barely a presence on the international stage. Yet now, 100 years later, American Democrats imagine they have the duty and power to control what will happen at the final resting place of over 1,500 passengers.

In their arrogance and led by the haughty and self-referential Senator John Kerry (D, Mass.), American Democrats are pushing Congress to pass legislation to make the wreck site of the Titanic off limits to further exploration.

Supporters of the Kerry arrogance claim that the Titanic’s final resting place should be afforded the same legal standing as a cemetery and James P. Delgado, director of maritime heritage at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, says that he believes “there are people inside” the unexplored sections of the ship.

Few experts agree with this assessment, though. The Times notes that Hollywoodite James Cameron, who has been through the wreckage more than just about anyone, says he’s never once seen any evidence of bones or human remains.
