False Attacks on Kinzinger

-By Warner Todd Huston

Looks like the Democrats have found a surrogate to attack the honorable service of 11th District candidate Captain Adam Kinzinger. Some fellow named William Walter is trying to use his FaceBook page to smear Capt. Kinzinger’s service.

The Hill has a post on it now, but the long and short of it is that the Democrats must be pretty scared of Mr. Kinzinger’s candidacy if they are stooping to such low tactics.

“I know where I’ve served and I know what I’ve done,” Kinzinger told The Hill.

This Democrat FaceBook plant is questioning Kinzinger’s bio on his website saying that the military history stated there is untrue. After the faux controversy Kinzinger changed the entry to be more explicit of what he did in the Air Force.

NLRB Nominee Stymied

-By Warner Todd Huston

Two Democrats joined newly seated Massachusetts Republican Senator Scott Brown Tuesday to uphold the Republican-led filibuster against President Obama’s nomination of Craig Becker to head the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).

The Democrats that joined the filibuster were Blanche Lincoln (D, Ark.) and Ben Nelson (D, Neb.). Both are thought to face losing their seats in the upcoming 2010 elections over the many left-wing votes they’ve recently cast.

The GOP is against the elevation of Becker to the NLRB Chair because his past statements show that he’ll take the position with a Big Labor agenda firmly in mind.

“Mr. Becker’s previous statements strongly indicate that he would take an aggressive personal agenda to the NLRB, and that he would pursue a personal agenda there, rather than that of the administration,” Senator Nelson said.

The final vote was 52-33, falling short of the 60 that Becker needed to sail out of committee and toward an open vote.

Dem Powerbrokers to Ignore Voters, Choose Own Lt. Gov. Candidate

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, with the winner of the democratic Party nomination for Lt. Gov. stepping down, one might think that the Party would give heavy weight to the other candidates that faced Scott Lee Cohen in the Lt. Gov. primary. Of course, if one thought that one would not be remembering that Illinois is Democrat leader Mike Madigan’s plaything.

The Sun-Times is reporting that Dem powerhouse Michael Madigan has decided that he’s going to ignore the second and third place vote getters in the primary and emplace his own, hand-picked buddy to take the Lt. Gov. spot.

So, Art Turner (the number 2 vote getter) and Mike Boland are out despite that the voters picked them as the next runner ups for the Lt. Gov. spot.

On WLS Radio today, GOP Chairman Pat Brady echoed this concern that Democrat powerbrokers are choosing elected officials now and not even bothering with the pretense of the voters having a say.

That is how corrupt the Illinois Democrats really are. They’ve at last revealed what they really think of the voters.

Put Back Amendment: Fight Back against Michael Madigan’s Iron-Grip of the Legislature!‏

Now that the primary election is over, we turn our sights towards the Democrats and ending their destructive reign over the State of Illinois. Of these, none is more dangerous and powerful than House Speaker Michael Madigan. As we all know, he wields complete control over the Illinois General Assembly. Whatever law he does not want considered is dead on arrival. All important legislation he does in a back room free from scrutiny. This needs to end.

That is why the Put-Back Amendment was conceived. Despite the fact that over 99% of Illinois citizens do not, nor cannot vote for Mike Madigan, he is in complete control. We send 177 legislators to Springfield for a reason, so each corner of this state can be represented. It is time to end his iron-gripcontrol.

Some Letters Beating Me Up Over My Tea Party Articles

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well I’ve now written six — this makes seven — articles criticizing certain failures of the Tea Party movement thus far. They are all meant to be constructive criticisms, though, not dismissive nor derogatory of them. It’s measured introspection I employ in each of these articles. No name calling, no laughing, no hate. There is just no logical way to construe what I’ve written thus far as hate against the Tea Party movement. But this whole Tea Party thing reveals several things to me. First of all it shows that there is still a lot of passion for them and that is a very good thing. I want the Tea Party groups to succeed and I want them to become a force that can teach the GOP a lesson. The other main thing it shows me is that too many people can’t read for comprehension these days.

The sad thing is that these days even the slightest criticism of a thing is seen by too many as outright hostility. Everyone is so hypersensitive that even a mild criticism meant as an exercise in introspection is seen as an over-the-top attack. It doesn’t just happen on the right, either. Look at what happened to all those Hillary Clinton supporters during the run up to the 2008 presidential elections. The constructive criticism that Hillary fans offered the Democrats was pounded down so hard by the left that many Hillary supporters found themselves aligned — and some permanently — with the side they thought they opposed; the Republicans.

Naturally there’s the name callers and nay sayers always floating around out there. I had one guy, for instance, say, “who asked you for your opinion” of the Tea Parties? This same guy then went on to give me HIS opinion of them evoking the obvious rejoinder of just who the hell asked him for his opinion, anyway? Obviously he wasn’t bright enough to “get” that concept!

No One Gains Full Confidence in Top of Ticket Races

-By Warner Todd Huston

Kurt Erickson has some interesting points in his article in the Decatur Herald-Review. His summation of the elections for the top spot for both the Democrats and Republicans is that no one wowed the voters and neither party saw their top guy getting the full confidence of the people.

Erickson seems to be leaning toward thinking Brady is the better choice for the GOP, though I think Brady will find that he can’t get many votes in Chicago and the collar counties.

I find it interesting that Erickson didn’t dwell longer on Lt. Gov. candidate Scott Lee Cohen, though. What an embarrassment to the Democrat Party that was.

But I think he is 100% right with one line close to the end of his piece:

Representative John Murtha Dead at 77

-By Warner Todd Huston

Pennsylvania Congressman John Murtha has passed at age 77. He’d been in the hospital for several days and died from complications from gallbladder surgery.

Murtha was a Vietnam vet serving in the Marine Corps there. He resigned his commission as a Colonel from the Marine corps Reserves in 1990. He’s served in Congress since 1969.

Despite all his military service, Murtha emerged as a Congressional enemy of the armed forces. He was ill-tempered and one of the most outspoken left-wingers in Congress during the Bush years. He was also a loud anti-war voice. Murtha gave succor to our enemies by being one of the most outspoken members of Congress calling for the prosecution of our own soldiers. For this he became the favorite of some of the most virulently un-American groups in the country.

Murtha was also one of the most corrupt Congressmen in Washington with many, many ethics violations. His nick name was “the king of pork” he was such a profligate Washington spender.

Let us hope that Pennsylvania picks a better representative to fill his now empty chair because we need no more like him in D.C.

John Boehner is Kidding Himself

-By Warner Todd Huston

Yesterday our Republican minority leader in the House of Representatives proved that he still isn’t seeing the problem with the GOP. He’s living in denial, at least he is if we can take his words at face value.

On the Mike Gallagher radio show yesterday, leader Boehner insisted that there is no substantive ideological differences between the Tea Party folks and the Republican Party.

(As reported by The Hill)

“There really is no difference between what Republicans believe in and what the tea party activists believe in,” Boehner said during an appearance on the conservative Mike Gallagher’s radio show.

Boehner went on to say that the GOP has a job ahead of it to, “prove it to the tea party activists that we really are who we say we are.”

I can only shake my head at Mr. Boehner’s blather. Granted it might be mere bombast and hopeful talk from a man hoping to convince voters to buy his product. He may know he’s blowing smoke in part. But let’s assume he’s dead serious.

Obama’s Aide David Axelrod, Portrait of a Demagogue

-By Warner Todd Huston

This weekend Obama adviser David Axelrod gave us a perfect example of the art of empty demagoguery. Comments made by Axelrod concerning Obama’s state of the union speech shows an over statement meant to mask the truth in order to evoke sympathy for his boss, the President. Sadly, the truth is the victim here.

The Associated Press reported that Axelrod was saying that Obama has had to come to expect “unusual outbursts” from Republicans during his speeches. Axelrod tried to make it seem as if Obama is the only President that’s ever dealt with such “outbursts” from the opposing party during his speeches. Axelrod’s goal is to paint Republicans as somehow outside the bounds of normal behavior.

GOP’s Hayes Appeals to Black Press: ‘We are not Outsiders!’

From the Issac Hayes for 2nd District Congressional seat, facing Jesse Jackson, Jr. …

The following letter was released today by Rev. Isaac C. Hayes, the GOP nominee for Congress in IL-2, challenging the persistent indifference to Black Republican candidates by Black publications:

“As ‘minorities’ we have always called for diversity and tolerance” said Hayes, “yet within Black press there is no tolerance for Black Republicans and no willingness to embrace Black political diversity. My question is why not? Why are our press releases, letters to the editor, community events, and campaigns ignored? Is it not the responsibility of Black press to keep the Black community informed of what and who is impacting their lives?”

Just a few days before the Illinois Primary on February 2nd, a group calling itself “The Tea Party is Over” identified 14th Congressional District Candidate Randy Hultgren as possessing “dangerous ideas of the Tea Party.”

“If your enemies are any indication of your standing in the world, Randy’s honored with being labeled an enemy of these special interest, big government unions like the SEIU and AFL-CIO who have backed this radical-left group with tens of millions of dollars.” said Hultgren Campaign Manager John Cooney.

The Federal Reserve Is Inflating Another Bubble

-By Thomas E. Brewton

Stock market exuberance is symptomatic of a rapidly expanding money supply’s corrosive effect.

In the last two trading days of the week ending January 23rd, the Dow Industrial Index plummeted 430.170 points, the worst decline in a year. Major factors, according to Street gossip, were continuing weakness in corporate sales and growing fears that Helicopter Ben Bernanke might not be re-appointed Fed chairman.

Anatomy Of A Tea Party Pooping Endorsement

-By Warner Todd Huston

I have come to the conclusion that the Palatine Tea Party group (www.teapartypalatine.com) made a hasty decision in picking Joe Walsh for its Illinois 8th Congressional District candidate, hasty and perhaps misguided. In fact, this choice of Joe Walsh sort of shows the pitfalls that the Tea Party movement in general can fall into.

The field of candidates in the 8th District is wide, indeed. There are currently six Republicans running to snag the nomination of the Party and the differences between them are not too great when one looks over their issue statements. On the surface it would seem that throwing a dart would be just as legitimate a way as any other to make an endorsement in the 8th. But surface gloss can be deceiving and in this case, I believe that the gloss of Joe Walsh’s current campaign has blinded the good folks of the Palatine Tea Party group to a certain reality.

As I said there are six candidates for the 8th District nomination. Alphabetically they are:

What’s Wrong With the Palatine Endorsement?

From the information that I have been able to ascertain, it seems that one of the reasons that the Palatine Tea Party folks made their late December endorsement is because he won the poll that they hosted on their website. This poll was not scientific nor without controversy, however. The poll had surged overnight at one point with hundreds of votes each for candidates Walsh and rival Dirk Beveridge. This happened because of a technical flaw in the website. Apparently the poll did not record cookies so the same i.p. address could game the poll by hosting repeated votes. It seems that campaign operatives both for Beveridge and Walsh found out about this flaw and flooded the poll with multiple votes for their candidate.

A Chicago Politician’s Arrogance

-By Warner Todd Huston

Long time Chicago Democratic Politician Monique Davis is the poster child for arrogance. Davis is a State Rep that has been involved in many flaps centered around her assumption of personal imperviousness, her assumption that her office is a shield used to excuse just any activity at all on her part. She is above the law, beyond the reach of decency and responsibility as far as she is concerned and the Chicago Sun-Times has given us yet another example of her hubris.

You’ll recall that only last month the Tribune had a report that Davis hadn’t paid the rent for her offices… for almost eight years. Why should she? Do you KNOW who she is?

Well, we can add yet another bit of arrogance on the part of Davis. She’s decided that she should take possession of someone else’s work of art. You know. Just because she’s Monique Davis, and all.

The Sun-Times is reporting that Monique Davis decided that it was her right to take possession of a 400 pound statue of a slave woman so that she might have some proper I’m-a-Proud-black-woman sort of decoration for her office in Chicago. Only one problem… she doesn’t own the statue. Chicago State University owns it.

14th District Race: Sen. Lauzen Asks About All That Outside $$ For Ethan Hastert

-By Warner Todd Huston

During the January 14 Republican meeting and candidate forum in Geneva Township a question was raised by speaker Chris Lauzen (R, Aurora), State Senator from the 25th State Senate District. That question focused on all the support not only from outside the district but outside the entire state that is streaming in to shore up the campaign for Congress of the young Ethan Hastert. Senator Lauzen questioned the propriety of all this outside money pouring into the 14th District when there was already a worthy, proven candidate in the person of Randy Hultgren running for that seat. (Note: I’d have gotten this reported sooner, but was waiting on a few sources to confirm events)

This is a question that I have echoed and one that has formed one of the main reasons why I chose to endorse Randy Hultgren for the 14th District instead of Ethan Hastert.

At the event, Senator Lauzen stood before the audience and wondered aloud if there was a candidate from the 14h District that deserved the voter’s support based on “merit” or should the voters lean toward the candidate of “privilege”? Lauzen wondered whether the voters should support a man with a record of service or whether that support should be bestowed on the candidate with a mountain of outside support? Lauzen was primed to ask this question because of a campaign flyer being passed out by candidate Ethan Hastert that advertised an upcoming appearance by Georgia Congressman Tom Price who was in Illinois to stump for Hastert.

14th District: The Ethan Hastert Candidacy Mystery

-By Warner Todd Huston

14th District voter Steve Youhanaie had a few thoughts on the 14th District race between newbie pol Ethan Hastert, son of former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, and current State Senator Randy Hultgren. Like myself, Mr. Youhanaie is irked by the outsiders that have flooded into the 14th District to shower money and support on Ethan Hastert and Youhanaie wonders why they are doing it when we have a perfectly good candidate in the person of Randy Hultgren? Hultgren is a candidate that has a proven record of electability in the very district in which he’s running. So, Ethan’s support from outside the district is somewhat of a mystery to Mr. Youhanaie:

When I found out that Ethan Hastert would appear on the ballot for the GOP nomination in the14th Congressional District, I thought to myself, “This doesn’t make sense.” Could it be true that people with a lot of money believe that a 31-year-old with no background in the community could move into the district and in less than two years become the Republican nominee for the United States House of Representatives? Additionally, do they honestly believe that this 31-year-old could defeat an incumbent Congressman in a near 50/50 Congressional District just because of a name, a party affiliation, and a few well chosen words?
