I stand 100% against any government leach or placeman telling me I cannot have a gun. It is unconstitutional and violates my God-given civil rights. But, I am just as much against the same class of people telling me I must own a gun.
A town in Maine is the newest town to put in place a rule that mandates that residents buy and own a gun. This sort of rule has been known in small towns in Idaho, Georgia and Texas, as well. But this requirement is no more in keeping with the Constitution than laws in big cities that try to outlaw ownership of guns–itself also a total violation of the U.S. Constitution.
This week the city fathers in the small town of Byron, Maine, are making news for sponsoring a new ordinance making gun ownership mandatory.
Of course, the rule is meant less to force everyone to buy a gun than it is to make sure that laws saying they can’t would be nullified. But, if held to the letter of this law, this pro-gun mandate would violate freedom of choice just as much as outright bans on guns.

Dear Government: You Can’t MAKE Me Buy A Gun, Either”

Rand Paul excited conservatives, libertarians, and even some liberals with his filibuster performance on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday. It was some 13 hours of a discussion on Obama’s desire to use drones to kill Americans here at home. Unfortunately, there were seven Republicans Senators that decided it was a better idea to eat dinner with the odious Obama instead of assisting Rand Paul. Worse, two Republicans actually denounced Paul’s efforts. All these Senators need to be gotten rid of.
Rand Paul used the debate about the nomination of John Brennan as his “in” to begin his filibuster. Obama offered the nomination of Brennan as his next CIA chief and Paul used his turn to speak about Brennan as a launching pad to force Obama and the CIA to agree not to kill Americans with domestic drone strikes without trail, warrant, or arrest.
The excitement from rank and file GOPers hungry for some kind of victory was tremendous. Unfortunately, two foolish GOP Senators actually denounced Rand Paul for his successful and exciting effort.
The bobbsey twins, John McCain (Ariz) and his lapdog Lindsay Graham (So. Car.) actually attacked Paul for his filibuster. John McLame, for instance, called Paul “ridiculous.”

These GOP Senators Went to Dinner with Obama Instead of Supporting Rand Paul”

During a long stretch of the day in the U.S. Senate, Kentucky’s junior Republican Senator, Rand Paul, led a filibuster to decry the Obama’s administration’s seeming disregard of due process, the rule of law, and American’s civil rights. This, apparently, is funny to CNN. Makes one wonder why CNN imagines itself a news station!
Obama’s administration has admitted that it sees nothing inherently wrong with using flying drones to kill Americans here in our own country. This is something that Senator Paul and millions of other Americans (on both sides of the aisle, by the way) think is wrong.
As Obama’s nomination for a new CIA chief came to the floor, Senator Paul launched an old fashioned, talking filibuster to block the nomination in order to get his point across that killing Americans without due process, without proper warrants and trials is simply wrong.
This was something that CNN’s Erin Burnett thought was worthy of mocking.

CNN Mocks Rand Paul’s Filibuster, No Wonder CNN is Losing Credibility”

A would be bank robber in Trimble, Missouri, got a bit of a shock on March 1 after brandishing a toy gun in an attempt to rob a bank only to get shot in the face by a teller toting a real gun.
The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri reported that Michael Oliva was arrested and charged for attempting to rob the First Security Bank of Trimble as well as leading police on a high-speed chase.
The U.S. Attorney states that Oliva entered the bank with a realistic plastic replica of a pistol and ordered a female bank teller to give him what was in her cash drawer. Instead of complying, the woman fell to the floor in fear.
As she began to crawl away, Oliva ran around the side of the counter still brandishing his toy gun in a threatening manner.
Seeing the frightened employee, a second bank employee ran out from an office with a .357 Smith & Wesson pistol and fired shots at the assailant. Oliva was hit once in the jaw and ran out of the bank leaving a long trail of blood.
The alleged robber made it to his car and drove off, but police soon caught up to him and gave chase at times reaching 100 miles per hour. After a time, Oliva pulled over, bleeding profusely, and asked the police, “You guys going to let me die?”
Oliva was taken to a nearby hospital to treat his wounds.
The bank employee is not likely to be charged as he had a concealed carry permit.

This year the Violence Against Women Act is getting some stronger penalties for stalking, assault, and other crimes. With all these new provisions, one wonders that if this law were around 15 years ago, how it would have hit good old Congressman Bill Foster, a man who is guilty of abusing his wife?
The law, called The Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 (S47), would most certainly have sent Foster to jail for a long time. You see the Illinois Democrat has a chequered history of violence against women.

Chicago’s top cop is a shockingly ignorant man. Apparently what he knows of American history, the law, and the U.S. Constitution can be held in a thimble. This became glaringly obvious in a radio interview he gave to WLS Radio’s political reporter Bill Cameron.
Chief Garry McCarthy’s blather about the Second Amendment is amazing for its total lack of knowledge. For such a high-ranking official he displays an incredible lack of command on the subject. But, perhaps there is a reason? Perhaps it is less a simple lack of knowledge and more willful ignorance on his part, a purposeful dearth of knowledge he indulges to excuse his authoritarian, un-Constitutional desires to take away the natural, God-given rights of the citizens he polices?
His ignorance is so egregious the only proper way to reply to it is to take his “points,” such as they are, one at a time. So, the following is a transcript of the segment interspersed with my comments.

McCarthy: You know, I’m troubled by the special interest. I really, really am and I wonder if we looked at other parts of our society and if there was special interest influencing police work I believe that would be called corruption. So, if it has to do with donating money versus a popular vote I think we have a bigger problem in this country and somebody’s gotta wake up to that.
Even as it almost sounds logical, this is little else but a rhetorical smoke screen that is meaningless and is purposefully meant to both muddy the waters of the discussion and mislead the public. After all, a democratic republic is special interests guiding politicians. Our entire system is set up to operate this way. There isn’t anything shocking, new, different, or even necessarily dangerous about special interests. We’ve always had them.
It is even in the Federalist Papers, the articles written to encourage the people to vote yes on the U.S. Constitution. (Federalist Number 10)

Chicago Police Chief McCarthy’s Shocking Ignorance of History, the Law, and the U.S. Constitution”

A survey of news coverage by the big three networks of the indictment of former Chicago Democrat Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. was sparse to non-existent for the first three days after the indictment was made public. Even when his trouble was reported, the fact that he is a Democrat went unmentioned.
Jackson was indicted on Friday, February 15, but as Friday, then the weekend rolled on, the big three networks didn’t seem much interested in covering the story. In fact, a survey of the coverage found that the big nets gave the story scant attention that Friday and, while there were a few ultra short reports on the indictment on Saturday, there was no coverage at all on Sunday.
On Friday, for instance, NBC’s Nightly News gave the story short attention. By Saturday, Good Morning America gave the story a whole 18 seconds. Worse, even when the network news shows did report the story on Saturday evening, Jackson’s party affiliation was never mentioned.
Interestingly, not one of the Sunday morning politics shows mentioned the indictment at all.

One of the main discussions in this ginned up, fact-free anti-gun debate coming from the Democrats and their fellow extreme leftists is that they want “universal background checks” for gun purchases. So, “background checks” are a good idea to left-wingers… but in all cases? As it happens, NO is the answer to that. Democrats don’t want universal background checks in all cases.
Jams Bovard shows us this fact quite clearly in his recent Wall Street Journal piece headlined, “Perform Criminal Background Checks at Your Peril.”
Now, Bovard isn’t talking about the gun debate with his piece. In fact, he never mentions guns even one time. Bovard, you see, is talking about background checks as a condition for employment.
As it happens, Democrats and the Obama administration are attempting to eliminate background checks for prospective employees claiming it is a “civil rights” issue.

Recently NPR’s Morning Edition aired a segment on Chicago’s “gun violence” featuring taped comments from local Catholic Priest Father Michael Pfleger. Unfortunately the taxpayer-funded radio show presented Pflager as a benign “social activist” and never informed listeners of just how radical this man is.
The segment focused on President Obama’s Friday, February 15, visit to Chicago that was meant to highlight his anti-gun policies. Without fully informing listeners about their radical ties, NPR played taped comments from the long-time, left-wing priest and two other Chicago-based activists to speak to what Chicagoans were thinking.
Chicagoans are likely to know all about Father Michael Pfleger, pastor of Saint Sabina’s Catholic Church on the city’s South Side. It’s hard to miss him as he interjects himself into the news as often as he can. But NPR listeners outside the Windy City aren’t likely to know what an extremist the man is.
At the end of the segment, NPR’s Cheryl Corley played some tape of Father Pfleger who talked about the city’s plague of gun violence as he saw it. Corley introduced him only as “a social activist who lost a foster son to gun violence.”
Naturally, Father Pfleger is all in favor of Obama’s gun-ban ideas. But he is far more than a mere “social activist.” In fact, he is quite extreme in his “activism.”

NPR Downplays Chicago Priest’s Extreme, Left-Wing Activism”

A few weeks ago, Nevada Democratic Assemblyman Steven Brooks, 40, was arrested for threatening to kill the Nevada Speaker of the Assembly. This week he is behind bars again, this time charged with suspicion of domestic battery against a thus far unnamed family member.
Authorities reported that Brooks was arrested on February 11 outside his Las Vegas home after getting combative with police. Officials say that they had “determined Brooks had physically attacked a family member.” Further details have yet to be released on the incident.
This isn’t the first time Assemblyman Brooks mixed it up with police. At the end of January, Democrat Brooks was arrested for “threats of physical violence” lodged against Nevada Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick, also a Democrat.

Nev. Dem. Arrested Again For Violence”

NBC is taking some flack for casting Mike Tyson–a convicted rapist and accused serial abuser–as a victim of abuse in an upcoming episode of the TV show “Law & Order: SVU.”
In the episode Tyson will portray a death row inmate who was abused as a child and who was convicted of murdering one of his abusers.
The network originally scheduled the episode, which finished filming months ago, to air on February 13 but since rescheduled it to air on February 6 in order to distance its air date from an international, anti-violence event planned for February 14. The international event, the One Billion Rising march, is meant to raise awareness of abuse and violence against women.
The casting was protested by rape survivor Marcie Kaveney who started a petition to have NBC recast the role removing the convicted Tyson. The petition got over 7,000 signatures.

Only a month ago, Vogue editor Anna Wintour was being floated as an ideal candidate to become President Obama’s next ambassador to Britain but now the fashionista is in the news for another reason. A British newspaper has found that her boyfriend, J. Shelby Bryan, owes $1.2 million in back taxes to the IRS.
Despite owing the IRS such a hefty amount–he is also in arrears in Texas–Bryan was a high dollar fundraiser for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign. The socialite was also close to President Clinton serving on his Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board in 1996.
Bryan’s past due taxes are nothing new, either. He’s owed the money to the IRS since 2006.

Vogue Editor Wintour’s Boyfriend Owes $1.2 Million in Taxes”

After a discussion on gun control at an event in Richmond, Virginia, Vice President Joe Biden claimed that better mental health checks could have stopped the shooting on the Virginia Tech campus in 2007.
Biden said that he and those he consulted during the recent gun banning commission he chaired which was completed in mid January had reached a “pretty broad consensus” of policy recommendations that would include “mental capacity” to determine who would be allowed to purchase guns in the future.
“One of the problems that was pointed out here was that there was an adjudication of the young man that committed the crime at Virginia Tech, and yet he was able to go out and purchase two weapons,” the Vice President said.
In 2007 Seung-Hui Cho, a student at the university, killed 32 at the Blacksburg, VA campus. Cho used two handguns that he had purchased legally. The killer, though, had a history of mental health issues that apparently didn’t come up in his background checks when he purchased the weapons.

Things are getting rough out in Nevada. Democratic Assemblyman Steven Brooks was just arrested for “threats of physical violence” against Nevada Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick, also a Democrat. Some reports even claim that a weapon was involved, or threatened to be used.
The arrest came on Saturday, January 19, after Brooks made verbal threats against Speaker Kirkpatrick. Early reports had Brooks actually brandishing a weapon but later reports claimed he had just threatened to get his gun that was in his car.

North Las Vegas, NV – On January 19, 2013 at about 3:45 p.m. officers responded to a home in the northwestern part of North Las Vegas in reference to a report of threats to an elected public official. It was reported that Assemblyman Steven Brooks (40) of North Las Vegas made threats to harm a fellow State representative.

No good deed goes unpunished in New York as the state has abruptly cut off a contract with the independent auditor who found that the city and state had been wasting federal money meant to be spent on Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts.
Thomas Sadowski, the fired consultant, told the Times Union that he was escorted out of the building when he visited the New York Office of Emergency Management shortly after he filed his report on November 17.
The state hired Sadowski for his extensive experience in emergency procurement management with the federal government. The certified public accountant also did similar work for 10 years at the U.S. Department of Interior’s Inspector General’s office. Sadowski also trained the U.S. Forest Service, Alaska Fire Service, National Interagency Fire Center, Colorado Wildfire Academy and other government agencies.

Piers Morgan indulged his desire to gut the Second Amendment once again on his CNN talk show, and while most of his efforts were well ridiculed by Joel Pollak last night, one thing he brought up is a typical, though uninformed, question that many leftists illegitimately use to try and show why they should have all the power they want to ban any sort of weapon they feel like banning.
Early in Piers Morgan’s now seemingly daily discussion on guns, he once again garbled terms, misled on types of weapons, and basically displayed a woeful ignorance on the Second Amendment, as well as a lack of knowledge about what is already banned and why. It is that latter question that needs further discussion.
During the CNN show, Michael Nutter, the Mayor of Detroit, broached the question.
Michael Nutter: This is not about the Second Amendment. As you have said earlier I have said certainly many, many times, why does a civilian need a military-styled assault weapon, why does a civilian need body armor? You cannot buy hand grenades. Those are weapons but somehow they are prohibited. You can’t buy an F15 just because you think that you’d like to have that kind of device. So, we need to talk about more serious things…
Piers Morgan: We already have, actually, a lot of gun control in America. This is the myth of this debate. There’s already substantial gun control and commissioner let me ask you this, there’s lots of things are banned already it’s merely a question really of degree. And I have yet to hear a good argument for why an AR15, which is a military-styled weapon, why that should be in civilian hands?
Myth was a good word for Piers to use because he is promulgating one.

Piers Morgan has done it again, jumping into his anti-gun, anti-Constitution advocacy with both feet… in his mouth. Once again, Morgan took to Twitter to revel in his “civility,” this time ridiculing gun owners for being wary of the power of tyrannical government, scoffing that the Second Amendment won’t keep us all safe from a nuclear armed United States.
Morgan Tweeted his latest absurdist, misinformed Tweet on January 13: “America has over 5000 nuclear warheads. Quite hard to defend against a ‘tyrannical U.S. government’ with that kind of firepower. #GetReal”
So very vapid. Uninformed, ill thought out, and foolish all at once.
Are we to assume that Piers Morgan thinks that the only way governments ever trample on rights or oppress citizens is to “nuke” them?

In December, a Milwaukee man attempted to rob a corner market only to be stopped by a female store clerk with a firearm.
The incident, which occurred on December 14, was caught on surveillance video and shows a white man pulling a knife on a female clerk as she began to ring him up for a small purchase.
After the attempted robber pulled his knife and began to yank at the cash register, the female clerk pulled out a handgun from under the counter causing the attacker to cower to the floor, then run out of the store in haste leaving the cash behind.
Milwaukee police are looking for a white male, 25-35 years old, weighing 165 pounds.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Milwaukee police at 414-935-7360.

Woman Pulls Gun on Knife Wielding Attacker”

British police have finally issued its first major report on the criminal sex scandal that has rocked Britain’s TV and entertainment industry, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), for well over a year and the details are shocking.
Late BBC TV and radio star Jimmy Savile is accused of physically abusing hundreds of children–the youngest of whom was just 8–as well as many young adults whom he met through his high profile charity work at various children’s hospitals throughout England.
Savile’s crimes began in Manchester in 1955, peaked in the late 70’s and early 80’s, and continued at a lower pace all the way until at least 2009, two years before his death at 85.
The police report concludes that Savile committed 214 criminal offenses including 34 rapes or other serious sexual assaults across England. 450 people have come forward with information about Savile’s crimes

Report: BBC TV Star Abused Hundreds, Youngest Was 8″

The decision over whether or not to charge NBC’s David Gregory for breaking Washington D.C.’s strict gun-banning laws on a December 23 broadcast of Meet the Press is now in the hands of the D.C. Attorney General, authorities reported Tuesday.
The D.C. Police essentially kicked the case upstairs pushing the investigation into a new phase. Chief Cathy Lanier released an email that said in part, that her department had “completed the investigation into this matter, and the case has been presented to the OAG for a determination of the prosecutorial merit of the case.”
The case is now in the hands of Attorney General Irvin B. Nathan who’s office oversees prosecutions of “low-level offenses.” A spokesman for the office said they would not comment until their decision had been made.

D.C. Attny Gen’s Office Now Investigating NBC’s Gregory Over Gun-Law Violation”

After a vote on January 8, Illinois is set to join only two other states, New Mexico and Washington, to allow illegal immigrants to apply for state drivers licenses. A third state, Utah, allows illegals to drive on temporary permits.
The 65-46 vote where 11 Republicans, some in leadership positions, joined Democrats to extend legal licenses came after a long, heated debate (SB 957).
Conservative activist William J. Kelly criticized the law.
“This kind of legislation has spurred a serious fraud problem in New Mexico and other states where it has been enacted,” Kelly wrote in the State Journal-Register. “Papers have been forged, auto repair shops have been regularly listed as places of residence, and more illegal driver’s licenses schemes have caused headaches for law enforcement as foreigners from other countries come to the state to fraudulently receive a U.S. driver’s license.”
Indeed, New Mexico’s Governor has been fighting to repeal her state’s licenses for illegals law.

Earlier we reported that the Los Angeles Police Department made a big show of having found “rocket launchers” during it most recent gun buyback program. We pointed out that the so-called launchers were being misreported and the police were illicitly using them as a scare tactic. But now we find that this same Police Chief has done this before.
On December 27 L.A. Police Chief Charlie Beck displayed a pair of what he claimed were “weapons of war” turned in during his latest gun buyback program. Chief Beck told the media that a pair of “rocket launchers” turned up and he evidently wanted to scare his city and make waves in the media about his success in getting these “weapons of death” off the streets of L.A.
Of course, the “rocket launchers” Chief Beck showed the Old Media establishment were nothing of the kind. Instead, what Beck waved about during the December press conference were U.S. Army training devices that were dummy devices. They are essentially prop pieces made to show young soldiers what such anti-tank weapons look like and how they feel. These training devices have never been able to fire anything nor could they be made to do so.
After the press conference, the Old Media establishment dutifully posted stories with scary headlines such as the L.A. Times’ piece, “LAPD investigating rocket launchers taken at gun buyback.”

L.A. Police Have History of Seizing Fake ‘Rocket Launchers’”

The L.A. Police Department had big news on December 27. They had seized a pair of rocket launchers! This, of course, would have been shocking news if only they really had found “rocket launchers” in the City of Angels.
As the L.A. Police Department’s “gun buyback program” came to a close, Chief Charlie Beck had frightening news for his city. A pair of “rocket launchers” had been turned in.
Chief Beck proudly paraded the pair of launcher tubes at a press conference and gravely told those assembled, “Those are weapons of war, weapons of death. These are not hunting guns. These are not target guns. … they have no place in our great city.”
The media, of course, dutifully ran to press with the “news” of the dangerous weapons of war found on the streets of L.A.

Fake News: L.A. Cops/Media Tout Rocket Launcher Seizure That Wasn’t”

Fox News recently reported that ex-crooks are denouncing the New York paper that published the names and addresses of thousands of the state’s gun owners saying that publishing the information was nothing less than a road map for criminals planning home invasions and burglaries.
In the last half of December, the Journal News a small paper in suburban Westchester, New York, published an interactive map featuring the names and addresses of the gun owners in Rockland County. This information, the ex-burglars say, presents criminals with a ready list of easy targets.
“That was the most asinine article I’ve ever seen,” said Walter T. Shaw, 65, a former burglar and jewel thief who the FBI blames for more than 3,000 break-ins that netted some $70 million in the 1960s and 1970s. “Having a list of who has a gun is like gold – why rob that house when you can hit the one next door, where there are no guns?
“What they did was insanity,” added Shaw, author of “License to Steal,” a book about his criminal career.
The map of gun owners’ homes also gives those crooks specifically interested in stealing guns a roadmap for their criminal enterprises.

Ex-Burglars Admit Gun Owner-Outing Map Helps Criminals”

The paper the Guardian has become Britain’s newest champion for a minority of sorts. In a January 3 article, the UK paper has taken up the cause of pedophiles who claim they are just “ordinary members of society” that only need a little understanding.
The paper seriously presented pedophiles as but a misunderstood minority that do no real harm. As Telegraph writer Damian Thompson points out, “this is not some sick send-up” on his point. The UK Guardian is wholly serious.
Guardian feature columnist Jon Henley uncritically quotes convicted pedophiles like Tom O’Carroll who said that children enter into such “relationships” voluntarily. “If there’s no bullying, no coercion, no abuse of power, if the child enters into the relationship voluntarily … the evidence shows there need be no harm.”
Henley then trots out a few “experts” that present “proof” that kids are not harmed by the predators that abuse them.

In December the Westchester, New York area paper politicized the names and addresses of thousands of New York’s legal gun owners then threatened to publish even more in the near future. But now a hacker group has hacked into the newspaper’s database and is disseminating the names, addresses, and passwords of thousands of the Journal News’ own customers.
After the local New York paper published the names and addresses of gun owners in Rockland County in an online interactive map, bloggers responded by posting the names and addresses of the employees of the Journal News.
The paper then hypocritically hired armed guards to patrol its offices over what it claimed were “threatening” emails it had received.
