Dem Powerbrokers to Ignore Voters, Choose Own Lt. Gov. Candidate

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, with the winner of the democratic Party nomination for Lt. Gov. stepping down, one might think that the Party would give heavy weight to the other candidates that faced Scott Lee Cohen in the Lt. Gov. primary. Of course, if one thought that one would not be remembering that Illinois is Democrat leader Mike Madigan’s plaything.

The Sun-Times is reporting that Dem powerhouse Michael Madigan has decided that he’s going to ignore the second and third place vote getters in the primary and emplace his own, hand-picked buddy to take the Lt. Gov. spot.

So, Art Turner (the number 2 vote getter) and Mike Boland are out despite that the voters picked them as the next runner ups for the Lt. Gov. spot.

On WLS Radio today, GOP Chairman Pat Brady echoed this concern that Democrat powerbrokers are choosing elected officials now and not even bothering with the pretense of the voters having a say.

That is how corrupt the Illinois Democrats really are. They’ve at last revealed what they really think of the voters.

Put Back Amendment: Fight Back against Michael Madigan’s Iron-Grip of the Legislature!‏

Now that the primary election is over, we turn our sights towards the Democrats and ending their destructive reign over the State of Illinois. Of these, none is more dangerous and powerful than House Speaker Michael Madigan. As we all know, he wields complete control over the Illinois General Assembly. Whatever law he does not want considered is dead on arrival. All important legislation he does in a back room free from scrutiny. This needs to end.

That is why the Put-Back Amendment was conceived. Despite the fact that over 99% of Illinois citizens do not, nor cannot vote for Mike Madigan, he is in complete control. We send 177 legislators to Springfield for a reason, so each corner of this state can be represented. It is time to end his iron-gripcontrol.

Regional Vote Breakdown for Gov./Lt. Gov. Primaries

-By Warner Todd Huston

Ryan Keith and Brian Feldt of the State Journal-Register in Springfield, Ill. did some great work identifying the regional strengths of the candidates for Governor and Lt. Governor of both Parties in this primary season.

I don’t usually do this, but I’m going to reprint their whole piece because it isn’t too easy to excerpt without losing context, not to mention that the info is pretty important in order to uderstand the electoral reality in the state. So, here it is but be sure and understand that it came from the State Journal-Register.

Regional changes could have altered primary election results

By RYAN KEITH (ryan.keith@sj-r.com) and BRIAN FELDT — THE STATE JOURNAL-REGISTER

Electoral craziness wrote another chapter last week in the zany book of Illinois politics.

The two races for governor ended in virtual dead heats, with two Republicans still waiting for a final count. Both races for lieutenant governor were close.

But the overall results don’t show just how close the losing candidates really came to victory – and how in some areas the tallies were lopsided in favor of those who came up a little short.

No One Gains Full Confidence in Top of Ticket Races

-By Warner Todd Huston

Kurt Erickson has some interesting points in his article in the Decatur Herald-Review. His summation of the elections for the top spot for both the Democrats and Republicans is that no one wowed the voters and neither party saw their top guy getting the full confidence of the people.

Erickson seems to be leaning toward thinking Brady is the better choice for the GOP, though I think Brady will find that he can’t get many votes in Chicago and the collar counties.

I find it interesting that Erickson didn’t dwell longer on Lt. Gov. candidate Scott Lee Cohen, though. What an embarrassment to the Democrat Party that was.

But I think he is 100% right with one line close to the end of his piece:

Dems Troubled Lt. Gov Candidate Drops Out

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, the Democratic nominee for Illinois Lt. Gov., Scott Lee Cohen, has announced that he’s dropping out of the race even though he was the legal winner of the Democrat primary.

He told waiting reporters that he was quitting for the good of the state. “For the good of the people of the state of Illinois and for the Democratic party, I will resign,” he said at a presser tonight.

Of course, the big question is who will take his place? What legal process would determine who has the right to substitute for Cohen? Has this ever happened before? I don’t think it has.

Granted there were times when the State of Illinois didn’t even have a Lt. gov., the position is so pointless and unimportant. The truth is, the Dems don’t really even have to have a nominee.

But one assumes they would want one anyway. So, how is it to be done? Does the Democratic leadership just appoint one? Does the runner up get it? Does the man at the top of the ticket decide? Do all the Lt. Gov. candidates run against each other during the general? Do we have a Lt. Gov. primary re-do?

What, what, what?

Chicago’s Mayor Daley Says Scott Lee Cohen Earned His Election

-By Warner Todd Huston

The controversy over the election that put Scott Lee Cohen on the upcoming ballot as the Democrat’s Lt. Governor nominee is still roiling. Cohen has yet to step down bowing to calls for his head from every Illinois Democrat. Well, almost all of them, anyway. It seems that Chicago’s Mayor Richie “King” Daley is not one of those joining the chorus demanding that Cohen step down.

Cohen plans to speak tonight and rumors are he will step down, but Daley says he earned his spot on the ticket.

“People vote in elections. Everybody knew he was a pawnbroker,” Daley said. “You knew. The media knew. Everybody knew that, right?”

Well, they may have all known that he was a pawnbroker, but the neither the media nor the Democrat Party cared much to inform the public about Cohen’s past. Yet, even that didn’t make Daley oppose Cohen.

“So anybody who’s allegedly — who’s arrested and the case is thrown out, should not run for public office. Is that right? You want that done? I’m just saying, it’s a very complicated issue.”

Well, from his viewpoint, he might be onto something. After all, nearly everyone in his administration is either a criminal outright or an accused one. So, if we were to eschew voting for such people Daley wouldn’t have anyone left in his government!

As for me, I hope Cohen keeps his spine intact and stays on the ticket. It’s all good for Republicans, for sure!

Scott Lee Cohen: Case in Point How Chicago Media Covers for Criminal Democrats

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, the Chicago controlled Illinois media has done it again. It’s allowed another unsavory Democrat candidate with criminal propensities to slide by unnoticed and to be placed before the voters un-exposed as the low-end sort of fellow he is. And, just like clockwork, this drug addled nut has been elevated to nominee by the Democrat sheeple of the Land of Lincoln — proving that Democrats will vote for a ham sandwich if one is put before them. This media malfeasance only works in favor of Illinois Democrats, though. To prove it all one need do is remember the 2004 case of Republican Jack Ryan. We have but to recall how the Illinois media destroyed this man over what they claimed in wide-eyed shock was his outrageous behavior and remember how the Chicago controlled media torpedoed this man’s career over what they felt was his unsuitability for higher office.

It’s all a pretty ho-hum tale of media malfeasance and a case of the Democrat Party’s typical sort of low-brow candidates in Chillinois… or is it Illcago? It happens all the time in here, in any case. The Democrats put up a criminal as a candidate, the media yawns and reports on some Hollywood story instead, the voters that claim a Democrat ballot vote him to the head of the class, and then the media suddenly wakes up with cries of faux outrage. It’s a typical pattern, really.

This current case is that of Scott Lee Cohen, pawn shop king, wife abuser, steroid addict, and now your Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor. The guy really has no respectable qualifications for office. As a teen he flunked out of High School — but did get his GED, at least. He was once addicted to steroids so badly that he beat up his wife repeatedly because of the fits of rage the drug brought upon him. He was once arrested for holding a knife to the throat of live-in girl friend who also happened to be a prostitute. It’s a pretty messy life Mr. Cohen’s lived.

Dems Lt. Gov. Candidate and His… uh… Peccadilloes, The Jerry Springer Democrat

-By Warner Todd Huston

I just can’t get excited about Scott Lee Cohen, the wacky Lt. Gov. that the Democrats have chosen to represent them in November. Sure he’s the Jerry Springer candidate, sure he’s violent, roided up, and sort of scummy.

But, he’s upfront about it all, he’s honest about his general scumminess. And he DID win the election.

In the Chicago Sun-Times Sneed had a few tidbits I’ll repost here to give you a general idea of where this guy fits on the Jerry Springer scale:

Statement From Kirk Dillard: Count ALL The Ballots

As everyone waits to find out who will be the official GOP nominee for Governor, we see that only 406 votes separates ostensible winner Bill Brady and still hopeful Kirk Dillard.

Still on pins and needles, Dillard is holding out for all absentee ballots and all mail ins to be counted…

Republican candidate for Illinois Governor Kirk Dillard today said at a press conference in Chicago that the ballot counting process in the GOP Primary must continue, “until all of the legal ballots have been counted and verified.”

Remember What We’re Fighting: Alexi Giannoulias and His Mob Ties

-By Warner Todd Huston

OK, folks, Mark Kirk is now the GOP candidate for Senate in the Land of Lincoln. Now is the time to remind everyone what we are facing, why we are fighting the corruption of Democrats, now is the time to focus on what is at stake…

Alexi Giannoulias, banker to the mob, from a family as corrupt as any Daley/George Ryan/Michael Madigan ever was. THIS is what awaits us if we Republicans do not vote for Mark Kirk.

Yes, Kirk is only marginally better on the issues than Giannoulis. Yes, Kirk is a center left kinda guy. Yes, Kirk lied when he called himself a center right guy. But one thing is sure. We can expect Mark Kirk to side with Republicans at least 45% of the time.

Were we to see a Giannoulias as our Senator we’d see a straight down the line, left-winger, with all the corruption of the Capone-set supporting him.

Democrats Ill. Lt. Gov. Nominee’s Past History of Domestic Violence?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Nice move Democrats. You go from crooks and bribe takers to violent criminals!

The Democrats just nominated a guy, Scott Lee Cohen, that has a history of holding a KNIFE to the throat of his girlfriend!

Scott Lee Cohen — a pawnbroker who shocked state Democratic leaders Tuesday night by winning the party’s nomination for lieutenant governor — was arrested about four-and-a-half years ago and accused of holding a knife to a former live-in girlfriend’s neck, newly obtained court records show.

Is it impossible for a Democrat NOT to vote for a criminal of one type or another in Illinois?

Another Chicago Alderman Goes to Jail — THIS is Heartening Progress

-By Warner Todd Huston

Alderman Ike Carothers is going to jail over his corruption. The wormy apple didn’t fall too far from the diseased tree, either, because Ike’s daddy, himself a former Alderman, went to jail for corruption in 1983. Ike joins a dozen other Chicago politicians in the Big House.

But I am here to say that I think we are seeing Chicago finally on the path to progress. How can I say that? Well, let’s look at the facts here.

William Carothers was sentenced to over 3 years in jail in 1983 for his bribe taking and general corruption. His son, Ike, now gets about two years for the same thing.

See the progress?

You don’t?

Well, obviously Chicago is getting closer to less corruption, don’t you think? I mean, daddy got three years. His son is only doing two! That means Ike’s son, when he gets into city government, will only get a year for corruption and his son might only get a few months.

See? Eventually we’ll get a Carothers in city government that is free of corruption. Heck it might take 5 or 6 generations…. but the city is getting there. See, it’s progress Chicago style.

Baby steps, friends, baby steps.

Illinois Shows Limitations of Tea Party Movement

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Tea Party folks keep getting mad at me for saying that in the end they might prove ineffective in races at levels higher than local because they aren’t organized enough. They puff up their chests proudly proclaiming that they intend to resist being organized and they claim that being organized is precisely what they are fighting against. I understand the feeling, even sympathize quite a lot, but there is a problem with this obstinacy. It means they won’t win on a statewide ballot very often. The Illinois primary just proved me correct, too.

Let’s take the race for Senate in Illinois as exhibit “A.” Of course the good old boys in the state party went with Mark Kirk, the center left candidate from a northern suburb of Chicago. He was the he-can-win candidate and the establishment choice. Not one Tea Party group, though, wants Kirk and for good reason — and I heartily concur with them, as it happens. So who was the “Tea Party candidate,” the one meant to beat out Kirk, the one backed by the newly found power of the Tea Party movement? There wasn’t one. There was three.

Sadly, the Tea Partiers in Illinois split their vote all up. Some Tea Party Groups went with Don Lowery and some went with Patrick Hughes. A few even went with John Arrington. Hughes, of course, was the only one that had even a remote chance as far as voter polls were concerned. Hughes at least registered in the polls, Lowery and Arrington barely showed up at all.

Not Just In Germany

-By Thomas E. Brewton

In Germany and California the secular, socialist political state is attempting to crush parents who teach Judeo-Christian moral principles to their children.

Shades of Bismarck’s kulturkampf and Hitler’s pogrom to impose Aryan purity.

Germany has criminalized home schooling, demanding that parents place their children in state schools, where they will be suitably indoctrinated in the religion of socialism.

Sandy Cole Supporters attack GOP candidates for Governor, Congress, State House

From Paul Mitchell for 62nd District State Rep…

When voters in the 62nd District received a late mailer from Personal PAC on behalf of Sandy Cole for State Representative, they were told ominously that her challenger in Tuesday’s Republican primary, Paul Mitchell, had a 100% rating from the Illinois Federation for Right to Life (IFRL).

The mailer, apparently sent only to female names in the district, boldly announces “Personal PAC Urges You to Vote NO ON PAUL MITCHELL.”

The Mitchell campaign hopes that Sandy’s friends aren’t painting with too broad a brush: Republican gubernatorial candidates Jim Ryan, Kirk Dillard, Bill Brady, Adam Andrejewski, and Dan Proft, as well as Republican 8th District Congressional candidates Maria Rodriguez and Joe Walsh, have all likewise been given 100% ratings from the IFRL.

The Ironclad Case for Adam Andrzejewski (And-G-F-Ski) for Governor

-By Bruno Behrend

This is a long, but important e-mail about the most important political race in Illinois. Please remember that the choices you have in November are dictated by the choices you make in this primary election. You have to get out and vote tomorrow, and you have to get 10 of your friends to do the same. Also, don’t split your vote. Just vote for the conservative newcomer who can win.

This is a personal request that you vote for Adam Andrzejewski, the best Republican candidate for Governor. I would like to tell you about Adam and his campaign, and I have a unique perspective, as I was instrumental in the campaign as Adam’s policy director up until early December. I am still actively involved as a volunteer.

Illinois: Why Government Cannot be Trusted

-By Warner Todd Huston

Government is often called the “necessary evil.” But whatever it is, as each day passes we see that the “evil” part of that axiom seems ever more true. We can see the pernicious qualities of government at every level from local, to the state, to the era of Obamaism in the federal government. But if you want yet another example of how truly disgusting government is we have to look no farther than Illinois, the corruption larded Land of Lincoln.

In 2009 the Illinois State legislature passed a bill that for the first time legalized video poker machines. This was done so that the state could raise much needed revenue — I say “much needed” because obvious CUTS are never considered in a budget that is billions of dollars over spent. But because so many Illinoisans oppose the evils of legal gambling in their state the legislature added an opt out clause so that each individual county and community could decide if they wanted to allow video gambling in their jurisdiction.

It almost seemed the perfect bill. Those areas that wanted to throw propriety and good government aside could vote for allowing video poker, those that realized that it was bad policy could just say no. What’s better than local rule?

Well, leave it to government to mess it all up. You see, the avaricious, profligate spenders in the state capitol in Springfield began to get alarmed at how many communities wanted to choose the opt out clause. These drunken sailors began to see that they might not get the revenue they thought they would see. So they arrived at a plan to get it anyway. These ripoff artists that pretend at being our leaders devised a new tax, one that would penalize any community that opted out of video gambling.

Andy McKenna And His Big Money Obama Supporters

-By Warner Todd Huston

Former Illinois Republican Party Chairman Andy McKenna is trying to claim he is an “outsider businessman” and that he’s the only one not connected to Illinois corruption. But the facts seem to auger against McKenna’s claims.

For one thing, McKenna has been called out for ethics violations by his own party. On top of that, how does one claim to be an “outsider” when one was the head of the state party!? That’s a couple of major dents in McKenna’s claims right there.

But now comes info from the Ryan campaign that Andy McKenna also has a ton of donors and supporters that are big Obama supporters, too. Now, how can someone claim to be the conservative solution to Springfield if he’s getting hundreds of thousands of dollars from Democrat and Obama supporters?

Dan Proft Visits Fox News Sunday

Meanwhile, one of the members of the Sauk Valley Tea Party group has endorsed Mr. Proft:

Dan Proft – met him, looked him in the eye and he brought up Natural Law in our conversation. He is a real conservative that understand our national constitution. I did not meet Andejewski or Brady, both of which sound like great candidates, but neither made the effort to contact our local tea party and Dan did. Dan has a deep intellect of the issues and for this reason he is getting my vote. If you are voting for a candidate that is not one of the 3 above, you are in herd mentality – there is a difference between a conservative or libertarian and being a Republican.

First Time Voter Chooses Dodge

From the Jim Dodge for Comptroller campaign…

Take a look at a message we received from Erik Zimmerman, a young man who takes his voting privileges very seriously. We’re honored that after his research, he decided to cast his vote for Jim Dodge.

Erik Zimmerman “When I was 16 I started realizing my love for politics. Unfortunately, I couldn’t vote yet because I wasn’t 18. I had to wait two long years and watched as Democrats began to take over and run things both in Illinois and in the federal government. After seeing what the liberal policies did to our state I realized that I couldn’t responsibly vote for someone who would treat the taxpayers dollars like a lottery windfall.

Tax Problems For 5th District Candidate Ratowitz?

-By Warner Todd Huston

David Ratowitz is presenting himself to voters as the business oriented, conservative candidate for their 5th District Congressional seat. Ratowitz says he represents “hard-fought professional achievement” and “personal resilience,” and says his “genuine free market outlook” makes him the perfect candidate for conservatives. Also, many of Mr. Ratowitz’ press releases state that he’s for fiscal responsibility and have taken the Obama administration to task for its bad fiscal policies. (www.ratowitzforcongress.com)

So, one would assume that Mr. Ratowitz’ own history should be above reproach. If not pristine, one would hope that any past business troubles or tax issues would be few and far between. After all, everyone makes a few mistakes especially if they are active businessmen.

Now, between 2000 and 2007 Mr. Ratowitz was a businessman in New Orleans, Louisiana. On his campaign website he admits that hurricane Katrina wrecked havoc with his business, but he says he “worked on the ground to rebuild his business and community.”
