Another Obama Foreign Policy Failure… Or Is It?

-By Warner Todd Huston

During the campaign, Barack Obama maintained that he would focus on intervening between Pakistan and India over their disputed Kashmir region. Obama repeatedly claimed that settling the Kashmir question was a “critical task” for the next administration and floated a lot of conjecture about how his administration would step in to solve the situation. But, despite all the claims that Obama made about how important Kashmir was to his developing India/Pakistan policy, the Obama administration has just trimmed any focus on Kashmir from envoy Richard C. Holbrooke’s responsibilities.

India is ecstatic over this move and has claimed a diplomatic victory over the Obama administration on the matter. No word yet from the Pakistanis over this loss of focus on a pet issue that they felt Obama had promised to help them with.

This is a turn around by Obama and a failure to live up to his campaign rhetoric. By trimming Kashmir from Holbrooke’s duties, Obama is casting aside one of the few specific foreign policy aims he claimed was so important during the campaign.

US Professors Attacking Israel and YOUR Tax $$ Fund It

-By Warner Todd Huston

Sadly, we are used to the anti-Semitism of Europe. After all, that is where anti-Semitism has historically thrived in a most virulent form and does still today. We are also used to the Jew hatred of the illiterati of Europe’s universities having seen so often the petitions they’ve raised to denounce Israel and give succor to Hamas and Fatah — and any other terrorist group that comes down the pike, for that matter. Of course, this infection of hate, racism and self-destructive terror worship is increasingly appearing at our own universities in the U.S. Nothing is more representative of that than the example of the “U.S. Campaign for the Academic & Cultural Boycott of Israel” recently emanating out of several California Universities.

Sponsored by several radical Muslimists that claim at being professors in a handful of California universities, this petition is one of the first of it’s kind here in the U.S. A disgusting milestone on the road to the Islamization of our tax payer funded institutions of higher learning. It is also an effort that pushes an extreme anti-intellectualism in our schools.

Unions Gain Heavy Among Government Workers

-By Warner Todd Huston

As we reported a few days ago, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported its newest stats on union membership for 2008. These stats show that union membership has increased for the second straight year. But where it has increased is of key importance.

The report shows a gain of 428,000 members, the largest in the last 25 years and since such statistics have been gathered. Alarmingly, a rising number of union workers are employed by government.

The union membership rate for public sector workers (36.8 percent) was substantially higher than the rate for private industry workers (7.6 percent). Within the public sector, local government workers had the highest union membership rate, 42.2 percent. This group includes many workers in several heavily unionized occupations, such as teachers, police officers, and fire fighters. Private sector industries with high unionization rates include transportation and utilities (22.2 per-cent), telecommunications (19.3 percent), and construction (15.6 per-cent). In 2008, unionization rates were relatively low in financial activities (1.8 percent) and professional and business services (2.1 percent).

This was a rise from numbers seen in 2007 and previous, as well. State and local government worker unions are steadily on the rise and therein lies the danger to good government. The singular problem with unions and government is that unions do not make for good government.

Pittsburgh Schools: Superbowl More Important Than Teaching

-By Warner Todd Huston

Adding yet another chapter in that ever growing book The Decline and Fall of American Education now being written by our teacher’s unions and failed administrations nation wide, Pittsburgh Public Schools will be delayed two hours this Monday. It is assumed, it appears, that teachers will be too tired to make it in on time because of partying for the Superbowl the night before. It is also obviously assumed that parents will be irresponsible enough to allow their kids to stay up past bedtime for a mere football game.

Schools Superintendent Mark Roosevelt has announced the 2 hour delay noting that it is being implemented as a “safety precaution,” whatever that is supposed to mean? For its part, the teachers union said that these delays in the past, usually initiated because of foul weather, have only applied to students and not teachers. This time, though, it applies to the teachers and staff, too. Why? Well, it’s a union payback for that one day they all came to school even though foul weather made the administration cancel school that day, of course.

Letting the Evidence Speak for Itself

-By Nancy Salvato

In a letter recently submitted to Education Week CITATION Ste09 \l 1033 (Stephen Krashen, 2009) Stephen Krashen, Professor Emeritus, Rossier School of Education, University of Southern California, draws attention to the Reading First final impact study which showed that children following an intensive decoding-based curriculum do well on tests of decoding but not on measures of reading comprehension when compared with regular students. He reminds readers that the National Reading Panel, the foundation for Reading First, came up with similar results.

From these two studies, Dr. Krashen draws the following conclusion. A high level of proficiency in decoding is not necessary in order to learn to read. Yet, he has employed fallacious reasoning to confirm his obvious bias against Reading First.

What these studies actually confirm is precisely what the authors of Reading First already understood; Phonics is not an end in itself. Phonics is a critical step in supporting reading development. With this in mind, The National Reading Panel recommended explicit and systematic phonics instruction. By this, it is meant that teachers should be provided precise directions for modeling and for leading students through the process of using letter-sound relationships to read words; letter sound relationships should be taught in a clearly defined sequence; and students should be provided extensive practice in reading stories with many different words to decode. Phonics is most effective when introduced in Kindergarten and first grade.

Heartbreak! Obama Not Enough to Sustain Hollywood Lovefest

-By Warner Todd Huston

Sing it…. “I’d like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony, I feel Obama in the air he makes us all friendly, he’s the real thing” …. OK, maybe that wonderful sentiment can’t last. But, as Andrew Breitbart reports, this emotional high has only lasted the Obamagassed Ashton Kutcher a mere 10 days. 10 measly days was all the love-your-neighbor that Mr. Demi Moore could take.

Not long ago, Kutcher was involved in a video of sycophantic Obamaists from Hollyweird where he “pledged” his fealty to a politician. He also pledged to be a more civil fellow saying that he would “always represent my country with pride, dignity and honesty.” I’d suggest that this young man should go look some of those words up in a dictionary somewhere because with the uncivil tirade he spewed out against his neighbor for early morning construction noise Ashie was being neither neighborly nor dignified.

Arkansas Dems Say USA ‘Founded By Slaveowners’ — Were ALL Founders ‘Slaveowners’?

-By Warner Todd Huston

To answer the headline: NO.

According to the historically illiterate Democrats in the Arkansas legislature, the USA was “founded by slaveowners,” and so they said in a resolution celebrating the election of Barack Obama. Not surprisingly, a few Arkansas Republicans objected to this stilted and historically misleading language and voted against the thing and those few Republicans deserve a pat on the back.

The resolution congratulating President Obama was killed in the Arkansas House Committee on State Agencies and Governmental Affairs this week when Republicans raised objections over the language in the document that claimed the United States as a nation was “founded by slaveowners” as if every founder was a slave owner or slave owning was a chief reason for creating the nation.

Opposition led by Rep. Dan Greenburg, R-Little Rock, and Rep. Ed Garner, R-Maumelle, centered around language in the resolution that described the United States as a nation founded by slaveowners. Greenburg and Garner wanted the language stricken or amended, noting that not every founding father was a slaveowner.

Apparently, Democrats in Arkansas are unaware that a large number of the Founding Fathers not only didn’t own slaves, but abhorred what would come to be known as the peculiar institution. Famous Founders such as John and Sam Adams, Ben Franklin and Thomas Paine were very much anti-slavery. Paine, for instance, was a founding member of one of the first anti-slavery societies in the country, founded in 1775 in Philadelphia.

A How-To Lesson For Left-Wing, Old Media Bias

-By Warner Todd Huston

Once in a while there is a short piece spewed forth by some Old Media outlet or another that is so perfect as a primer of left-wing bias 101 that I just have to share it. In this case we have the Telegraph writing on the story, covered at NewsBusters a few days ago, where Barack Obama found himself confused by an outside glass panel he mistook for a door at the White House. Michael M. Bates compared the bemused and easy treatment that the confused Obama received to the vicious attacks that Bush suffered when he was similarly confused by a door that wouldn’t open in China in 2005.

Bates wondered aloud if Obama would see the same sort of hateful attacks on his intelligence that Bush was served up by the ignorati in the media in 2005. We have since seen the answer to Bates’ question. Obama has been given a pass. The Telegraph’s treatment of the story, though, is such a perfect example of the subtle, left-wing bias used to excuse anything a lefty does while still attacking every one else that it really must serve as exhibit “A” in the battle against Old Media bias.

What do Obama and Unions Have in Common? Communists!

-By Warner Todd Huston

Michael Richardson of the on-line news group the Examiner wrote recently about some revealing quotes about the modern American Communist Party by a Richard Winger of Ballot Access News.

Speaking about how the Communist Party in the US has for the most part ceased trying to run candidates for office, Winger points out that the CPUSA fully endorsed Barack Obama for president in 2008 and has decided it best to focus on Democratic Party politics and union activities.

Communist Party members participate in politics and electoral life mostly by participation in unions, and inside the Democratic Party. The Communist Party’s weekly newspaper supports Democratic presidential nominees…

This says a lot, not about where the CPUSA has gone, but where Democrats and Unions have. If CPUSA members have gravitated toward unions and the Democratic Party, this means that those nominally American groups have drifted far enough to the extreme left for even communists to agree to join their efforts.

This is singularly bad news for America. This should also be kept very close in mind when considering if we should work with Obama and the Democrats or not.

Why Government Is The Problem

-By Thomas E. Brewton

As Friedrich Hayek noted (A Free-Market Monetary System), government monopoly of the right to issue currency is the ultimate source of our economic miseries.

President Reagan, in his first inaugural address, famously said:

In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.

In 1981, when he said it, economic conditions were in many respects identical to those we face today. And for the same fundamental reason: governments almost always arrogate to themselves the exclusive right to issue and/or to regulate the issuance of currency. The Constitution, Article I, Section 8, states: The Congress shall have Power… To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures…

This power, for any government, creates a temptation to over-expand the money supply and debase the currency. Only the unwritten constitution of the nation can guard against it.

Obama’s WH Chief of Staff Holds Daily, Secret Calls With Pals in Media

-By Warner Todd Huston

Politico reports that White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel holds daily chit chat sessions with several Old Media pals every morning to start his day. Apparently Emanuel has for years been involved with daily bull sessions to plan media coverage and ideological strategy with CNN’s James Carville and Paul Begala, as well as ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, with the occasional participation of pollster Stan Greenberg. But there is one little problem with this daily palling around with mediots these days: Emanuel now works for the White House.

As Politico’s John Harris notes, “in any given news cycle, it is quite likely that Washington’s prevailing political and media interpretation — at least on the Democratic side — is being hatched on these calls.” In light of this early morning scheming, one has to wonder where the supposed autonomy of the media is if they are being programed by the Obama White House in off the record, secret and daily conversations? Where is their objectivity if these media mavens are all assisting Emanuel mould and shape the news to further a specific ideological goal?

Even worse, where are the people that would normally decry a chummy, personal and secretive relationship between Emanuel, a partisan government operative recently called the second most powerful man in Washington, and major members of the Old Media? Where’s the outrage that the Obama administration is secretly programing media coverage?

Time Mag Photographer Works as Both a ‘Journalist’ AND Team Obama Employee?

-By Warner Todd Huston

The old joke about CNN in the 1990s was that it stood for the Clinton News Network. The current joke about the anti-Israel Associated Press is that AP stands for Allah Press. In the 70s, people joked that NBC really meant National Broadcasting for Communists. We’ve all heard the various joke acronyms before, of course. But, the presumed sentiment of the individuals working for these news agencies aside, these are just sarcastic jibes cast at journalists and the companies they work for. But, a current situation blurs the line between mere jokes and reality. Time Magazine has employed a photographer named Callie Shell that has apparently been doing double duty as both a “journalist” AND a member of team Obama, taking pictures subsequently sent out as official White House photos.

How is it that we can have someone thinking that bias cannot be presumed when that same person is working for both a news agency and at the same time the subject of that news? Is the love that the press has for The One so blurred that they cannot see a difference between covering Obama and working for Obama?

Michael Calderone reports in Politico of a situation that is embarrassing both Time Magazine, and Shell, the purported photo-journalist they’ve hired as a photographer. Naturally, Shell is claiming it’s all just a misunderstanding… just like a kid caught with her hand in the cookie jar. Shell claims she was only doing a “favor” for the President and that she wasn’t “on duty” with Time Magazine when she was acting the part of the White House’s personal photog.

Equal Pay

-By Dan Scott

To hear the AP story of President Obama signing the Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act one would think a new page in civil rights has been turned. However, like all things liberal Democrats foist upon the public these days using their salesmanship it’s the details they gloss over that are particularly problematic. The AP story was devoid of detail that would allow a reader to consider the facts.

Here are the details that should raise some red flags in every employer’s mind.

“Ledbetter was a supervisor at Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s plant in Gadsden, Ala., from 1979 until her retirement in 1998. For most of those years, she worked as an area manager, a position largely occupied by men. Initially, Ledbetter’s salary was in line with the salaries of men performing similar work.

Over time, her pay slipped in comparison to the pay of male area managers with equal or less seniority. By the end of 1997, Ledbetter was the only woman working as an area manager and the pay discrepancy between Ledbetter and her 15 male counterparts was stark: Ledbetter was paid $3,727 per month; the lowest paid male area manager received $4,286 per month, the highest paid, $5,236.

Text Of Obama’s Letter to Iran Leaked

-By Warner Todd Huston

I was shocked to see the text of Obama’s letter to Iran leaked. But, I guess even The One has a few insiders that will leak things.

Dear Iran,

Yo, yo, yo waddup, fellas? It’s me, Hussein. You know, the guy that just became president of the USA?

Yeah, that one. So how’s it hangin’? (That wasn’t a gay joke, BTW)

I just wanted to remind you guys that I’m ready to talk to ya’all. That was a promise I made in the campaign and that one was no “takiyah” — and let me just say I love that “takiyah” thing. I use it a lot.

I Don’t WANT Rush Limbaugh as the Voice of Republican Party

-By Warner Todd Huston

I am sick and tired of being sick and tired of Old Media people like columnist Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post and liberals like Pelosi and Obama who keep claiming that talk show host Rush Limbaugh is the only voice of the Republican Party. Imagine. A mere radio guy. Our voice!

I am through with Limbaugh’s supporting the long tradition of rugged American individualism, done with his harping on free trade, and up to here with his going on about the Founders and our American character. I am worn out with his bellicose talk of stopping terrorism, and so done with Limbaugh’s high profile as one of the most listened to conservative advocates in the country that I could just spit. I simply don’t want this Limbaugh character to be the sole voice of the GOP. Stop it now. Make it go away.

Obama to Force HIS Moral Standards on YOU

-By Warner Todd Huston

Just a reminder that Barack Obama still has the inaptly named Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) on his plate. During the campaign Obama promised to work on the act as one of his first efforts as president. For those unaware, this law would take away the rights of parents to be notified when their children are undergoing abortions, will cancel state laws against partial birth abortion and nationalize rules governing abortion. It will force taxpayer funding for abortion nationwide and force all hospitals and healthcare facilities run by religious organizations to act against their religious principles by forcing them to become abortion mills.

The FOCA attempts to redefine abortion as a Constitutionally protected right and to federalize all abortion rules taking away the right of the states to make their own laws concerning the issue and, thereby, taking away the right of the voters to add their voice to the debate.

Obama Appoints Collectivist to Chair NLRB

-By Warner Todd Huston

The National Labor Relations Board (nlrb.gov) is a federal agency created to monitor and administer federal laws that govern the relationship between labor unions and business owners and corporations and to this board, Barack Obama has appointed as its chair a woman that does not seem to believe much in individual freedom but seems more interested in collectivism. To you and me that might be considered a communist ideal, but even if she doesn’t take it that far it is certainly an adversarial idea to individual freedom and the rights of business.

Last week, Obama named to the NLRB Wilma Liebman, a Philadelphian that has served on the legal staff of two labor unions: the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (1980-1989) and the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen (1990-1993).

Christmas Responses Taken To Extremes

-By Frederick Meekins

At one point in its history, one could argue that the West was too sure of itself as the foremost of civilizations. However, such is no longer the case today.

In theory, pluralists and multiculturalists contend that no way of life or culture is better than any other. Thus, one would think that Western and American perspectives and traditions would be welcomed into this expanded showcase of human achievement.

Yet unless one wants to bash the West for its past short comings, they had better think again. If anything, one is expected to feel the same kind of shame in regards to the most innocuous of traditions that was once reserved for more carnal subjects during exceedingly Victorian times.

Obama’s Election Leads To Societal Trivialization

-By Warner Todd Huston

There is a long human tradition of celebrating the lives of great men by naming buildings and institutions after them. Men that were consequential to their age — or a later one, for that matter — are memorialized by their progeny and held out as the pinnacle of human achievement. Brave, heroic, intelligent, leaders of men, father’s of their people or their field of study, such men are the stuff of legend and societal memory. Memorializing them brings social continuity and gives current generations an ideal model to emulate.

And so, in light of this, we most often wait until someone has actually achieved something before we name a school after them. After all, it’s only fair that we insist that future generations venerate a man that has actually done something exceptional with the end product of their lives, lest the whole exercise seem somewhat hollow.

Sadly, with the coming of Barack Obama, it now seems that hundreds of years of tradition concerning meritorious service has today been unceremoniously cast aside. Apparently, all one need do now for solemn devotion to be lavished upon him is to get elected. A mere election obliviously fosters instant veneration and now presumed excellence can be achieved without all that messy business of having to earn it. Yes, just winning a single election is cause enough to rename schools and streets for Barack Hussein Obama.

King Uncorks Clunker: The Cell Phone Clicky Noise Act

-By Warner Todd Huston

In a what-was-he-thinking move, Representative Peter King (R-NY) has recently introduced H.R. 414, the Camera Phone Predator Alert Act which is aimed at preventing “predators” from taking illicit photos of others in public with cell phones. The bill will force cell phone manufacturers to make the camera feature of a cell phone emit a noise so that it will be audibly obvious when a picture is taken.

As the bill summary at Thomas.loc.gov states:

Requires any mobile phone containing a digital camera to sound a tone whenever a photograph is taken with the camera’s phone. Prohibits such a phone from being equipped with a means of disabling or silencing the tone. Treats the requirement as a consumer product safety standard and requires enforcement by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Really? So now we are mandating sounds here? Should we begin to make laws that devices of every kind emit some sort of sound to alert everyone in the vicinity that something has been used in their presence, and predicate it all on “public safety”? And, what if someone doesn’t like the particular sound chosen? Are we going to sue to get the sound we like? Will the government then make rules of what kind of sound is made, how loud, how long? Will there be great volumes of the sorts of sounds “allowed” for one thing or another? Clicks for cameras? Star Trek-like swooshing sounds when doors open?

CNN STILL Pushing Lie of Rev. Wright/Rev Hagee Comparison

-By Warner Todd Huston

ALSO, America apparently the land of permanent racism

I am wondering if CNN was out of the country last November 4? Maybe it missed that McCain lost the election because, once again, CNN trotted out an Old Media campaign lie aimed at making John McCain “as bad as” the Reverend Jeremiah “God Damn America” Wright by using the talking point that in Reverend John Hagee McCain had a “controversial” pastor, too? Not only did CNN fall back on the lie that Hagee is somehow just as bad as Wright — and thereby smearing John McCain with Wright’s racist hatespeak — but CNN got a twofer with this piece by again portraying America as the land of permanent, unrelenting racism by hinting that Obama will never get a chance because he’s black.

News flash to CNN: Barack HAS gotten a chance. He was elected with a comfortable majority of votes.

If anyone wonders what any criticism of Barack Obama will be termed by the Old Media, CNN’s headlined “Will Obama have to be better because he’s black?” seems to answer to that question. You see, Obama won’t be given a chance, CNN tells us, because he’s black. Any failure will be made larger because he’s black. And any criticism of him is just racism forcing Obama to “work harder than whites” at his job.

Taxpayers of America Unite!

-By Dan Scott

Now that a tax cheater, I mean former tax cheater, Timothy Geithner has been officially confirmed by the Senate to become Secretary of the Treasury, we, the taxpayers, have the poster child of government fiscal irresponsibility. President Obama’s particular choice of this flawed person gives us a valuable insight into how he intends to squeeze us, the taxpayer, of every last penny. Who better than the very person who specializes in financial rescues would best be suited to the job of propping up failed government policies by finding yet more creative ways to fund those failures?

Picking up on Thomas Brewton’s theme of Social Justice, liberals have a faulty worldview in regards to the cause of crime and poverty, that being unequal wealth distribution. In the liberal worldview money and the resources it buys is the answer to their Utopian dreams. This worldview is based on the trope that given enough money literally anything can be made to work. This is why liberals continue to insist the public school systems of the US are under funded, when in fact every year more money is spent for a continual diminishing return evidenced by higher drop out rates and low test scores. In the liberal worldview, not enough money has been spent to make it successful and that’s why it’s a failure, to them the teachers, students, parents and methods have little to do with the results. There is no such thing as personal responsibility, just social responsibility. Where does the money come from? The taxpayers.

Pro-Abortion ‘Republican’ Group Cheers Demise of Mexico City Policy

-By Warner Todd Huston

With the disingenuous premise that the majority of Republican voters are actually pro-abortion, Republican Majority for Choice is celebrating President Obama’s repeal of the policy that prohibits federal money from flowing to foreign abortion mills — variously called the Mexico City Policy, the family planning gag rule, or the global gag rule.

This group forms a sort of enemy within that, while small, has great appeal to the far left in America when they are looking to promote what they consider “reasonable” Republicans — and by “reasonable” they mean Republicans that don’t actually believe in anything other Republicans believe in. This being the case, there is no surprise that this group’s largest success is found in the quixotic state of Colorado they having garnered the support of long-time Colorado Republican Hank Brown — former Senator and late president of the University of Colorado.

Biden Claims He Will be ‘Obama Confidant,’ Obama Says Nothing

-By Warner Todd Huston

Joe Biden has decided that he is going to serve Barack Obama as a sort of senior advisor that will be “the last guy in the room when he makes these critical decisions.” At least that is how the BBC is reporting the matter. Biden also assures the BBC that his vice presidency will be a “break with the past.” Of this Biden is no doubt correct, at least where it concerns the recent past.

But, what is Joe Biden really going to be doing? We are all aware, of course, that Biden has been telling anyone that will listen that he won’t be like Dick Cheney. Politico reported last December that Biden imagines he will “restore” the vice presidency to its proper role in the White House even though it didn’t seem that Joe had a firm grasp on what the Constitution actually says about the office. And to the BBC, Biden is tryig to foster the notion that he’ll be like some respected father figure for the young Obama helping the president make the big decisions as the administration moves forward.

L.A.Times Featuring Complaining Immigrants Praising Obama

-By Warner Todd Huston

Reading Sandy Banks’ column in the L.A. Times we are supposed to feel optimistic. But, instead of optimism, all one can see is complaints about the USA coming from the immigrants in Washington D.C. that Banks ran across during her inaugural week visit. Instead of uplift, we see Banks celebrating the fact that these people feel that the USA is a bad place, has failed them, or is not what it’s cracked up to be. So, where is the “profound message” that Banks found in DC?

Why it’s that these same immigrants think Obama will remake the US into something better for them, naturally. You see, Banks agrees with these immigrants that the USA is a bad place and that The One will wipe away our sins and re-invent this nation into something it wasn’t. Banks isn’t celebrating the USA with her “profound message” but celebrating its recreation into something different.

Here Are The Senate Republicans That Voted to Confirm Tax Cheat Geithner

-By Warner Todd Huston

Keep the following names in your wallet just in case the IRS comes knocking at your door to arrest you for any possible “mistakes” in your payment of federal taxes, won’t you? For these are the names of those Republican Senators that one can rely upon to absolve us for being a tax cheat. In fact, if you play your cards right, you might even get a cushy government job out of the deal. These are the Senators that don’t think being a law abiding tax payer is a necessary requirement for being Secretary of the Treasury:

Corker (R-TN)
Cornyn (R-TX)
Crapo (R-ID)
Ensign (R-NV)
Graham (R-SC)
Gregg (R-NH)
Hatch (R-UT)
Shelby (R-AL)
Snowe (R-ME)
Voinovich (R-OH)

On the other hand, here are those unrelenting bores that seem to insist that tax laws are written in stone and that, darn it all, one should not be given high public office when it is discovered that one is a tax cheat!

Social Justice As Foreign Policy

-By Thomas E. Brewton

President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reportedly believe that the key to world peace is an international welfare state to equalize wealth distribution worldwide.

Both the President and his Secretary of State are on record as believing that the key to world peace and the end of Islamic jihad is to buy-off the enemy with welfare benefits, funded by American taxpayers. Given the current state of the economy and the Federal government’s massive deficits, this may be unrealistic.

Theirs is an approach based on social justice, the liberal-progressive hypothesis that institutions supporting private property rights foster unfair accumulation of wealth in the hands of greedy capitalists, leading to social discontent. Redistributing wealth, in liberal-progressive doctrine, removes incentives to aggression, crime, and war. As Hillary Clinton said in her primary campaign for the presidency, she intended to take more wealth, via higher taxes, from some people and put it to better social purposes.
