CNN ‘Reporter’ Writes Obama a Letter Every Day For Four Years

-By Warner Todd Huston

In a strange exercise, CNN reporter Tom Foreman has written a letter to the president every day of his presidency and intends to continue doing so until the bitter end. Talk about obsessive behavior.*

Tom Foreman is one of CNN’s third tier reporters and is frequently seen covering a gamut of stories on “Anderson Cooper 360º,” “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” and other CNN shows.

Starting with his first letter on inauguration day in 2009, Foreman began his letter writing campaign congratulating President Obama and asking, “Do you have any idea what you’ve gotten yourself into?”

The creepiest aspect of this strange campaign is how Foreman ends nearly every letter pleading for Obama to give him a call. Thus far the President has not availed himself of that opportunity.

No HuffPo Inaugural Party This Year?

-By Warner Todd Huston

For the President’s 2009 inauguration, one of the “it” parties was the one thrown by the Huffington Post. But this time around HuffPo isn’t throwing a party at all. That’s quite a let down from 2009.

A quick run down of the celebs that attended the party not to mention and how out of control the party was has been penned by Roger Friedman who himself missed most of the shindig.

During the 2009 blow out, party goers saw Robert DeNiro, Ben Affleck, Josh Groban, Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher, Norman Lear, Rosie Perez, Gerald Butler, Marisa Tomei, John Cusack, Kerry Washington, Leigh Taylor-Young, and many more.

But this year? As Friedman says, “There is no such thing this time around” as a HuffPo inaugural party.

Why not? Perhaps the HuffPo team doesn’t feel quite as exultant as they did in 2009? It might also be because Huffington Post chief Arianna Huffington sold HuffPo to AOL a few years after the 2009 inaugural. It just ain’t like the old days at HuffPo, is it?

So, instead of throwing another party to die for, Huffington Post is opting just to cover the parade and swearing in ceremony as, you know, “journalists,” instead of whooping it up as invested participants.

Left Says Gov’t Won’t Abuse Powers? What of Civil Rights Movement, 60s Riots?

-By Warner Todd Huston

The left is scoffing at the belief held by Second Amendment supporters that their right to bear arms is in part meant to act as a check on tyrannical government. Government turning tyrannical is ridiculous, many leftists say. But isn’t this the most absurd hypocrisy because didn’t they build their entire lefty edifice on the idea that government has been oppressing everyone?

Only the most recent person making this claim is CNN’s Piers Morgan, a foreigner and British citizen. He is grasping at any argument in his attempt to destroy our Constitution. On ABC’s This Week former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm also made this false claim.

From the Civil Rights movement, to the 60’s era hippies and yippies and their riots, to constant racebaiting, gay advocacy, university affirmative action, racial quotas, even all the way to the last few years when the childish Occupy Wall Street “movement” started, all of these movements arose because the left claimed that government had been oppressing any particular voting constituency to which they wanted to appeal.

Wash.Post Slams Gun Owner-Outing Paper for ‘Cowardice’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Now that the Journal News has removed the names and addresses of New York’s legal gun owners from its online map, at least one other newspaper is slamming the gun-outer for its “cowardice.”

In a Friday piece at the Washington Post, columnist Erik Wemple slammed the Journal News for its latest move in this gun owner-outing incident.

Wemple spared no effort to bash the statement issued by Journal News publisher Janet Hasson, calling it “cowardly” and ridiculing the conceit that New York paper used to justify its posting of the gun owner’s names and addresses in the first place.

Gun-Outing Newspaper Removes Gun Owner’s Names From Map

-By Warner Todd Huston

The New York newspaper that made itself infamous for publishing an interactive, Internet-based map revealing the names and addresses of thousands of New York’s law abiding gun owners has now disabled the feature that allows viewers to see those names and addresses.

The Westchester area newspaper caused outrage among New York’s legal gun owners with its anti-gun stunt as the story surged across the country. Citing public safety issues, as late as last Tuesday a group of 50 current and former law enforcement officials gathered to demand that the Journal News remove the names.

As soon as the map became an issue, legislators began efforts to change the state’s laws to make it illegal to out gun owner’s names. Even though such a law has yet to be put in place, the Journal News has decided to remove the names and addresses on its own citing the “spirit” of the laws under consideration as well as a provision in the state’s latest anti-gun law that passed earlier this week.

Bensmithing GOP Minority Outreach

-By Warner Todd Huston

The GOP-as-racists narrative continues on Buzzfeed with a piece today focused on the minority outreach being planned by National Republican Campaign Committee Chairman Greg Walden.

Reporting for Buzzfeed on Walden’s appearance at a recent GOP retreat, John Stanton reports only on Walden’s comments about new plans to get more minority candidates and to try and appeal more to minority voters.

But any look at the GOP National Convention last year would have revealed any number of minority candidates. Indeed, one of the most talked about new Senators is Florida’s Marco Rubio.

Rubio was joined by Texas colleague Ted Cruz this year, as well. Not to mention South Carolina’s Tim Scott.

Congressman: ‘Older White Guys The Most Insecure’ Part of Society

-By Warner Todd Huston

Virginia Representative Jim Moran has taken PC, pop psychology to its logical extremes by claiming that “older white guys” are the “most insecure” part of American society . And where else but on MSNBC?

Moran, one of the nation’s most extreme, left-wing Congressmen, appeared on Al Sharpton’s MSNBC show on January 16 and went into an aspect of the next election cycle that seemed to trouble him. It was during this discussion that he found what is wrong with our nation.

Clearly, we had a very successful election in November. I worry a bit about 2014, when we don’t have the President at the top of the ticket. We have a disproportionately number of older white guys, and frankly, being one of those types, we’re the most insecure component of our society as far as I’m concerned; we’re much the problem with these kinds of things.

We have now arrived at the open admission from the far left that the only problem in America today is “older white guys.” In contravention to the left’s claims at being the “fair” and “logical” side of the aisle, all pretense of fairness and balance has finally been laid aside and all fault laid squarely on the shoulders of one segment of our society.

In years past, this sort of rote blame was called racism.

GOP Heads To ‘Retreat’ To Talk Strategy

-By Warner Todd Huston

Members of the Republican Party headed out of town Wednesday to attend a retreat to talk strategy and apparently there were an awful lot of lips flapping to The Hill about the event.

The venerable Washington insider newspaper published a long report on what was going to happen at the retreat punctuated with what unnamed members expected or hoped would happen. Naturally, the talk was all centered around those obstreperous conservatives who sought to throw a bone in Speaker Boehner’s tranquility.

The retreat’s theme, we were told, is “Many Voices, Once Conference,” of which The Hill helpfully informs us, is “a nod to the GOP’s internal, self-inflicted wounds from the handling of the fiscal cliff deal.”

A session called “Planning for the First Quarter,” could “get heated.” So said “a number of lawmakers,” no names given, of course.

Morgan, Guests Don’t Understand Constitution, Don’t Care

-By Warner Todd Huston

Piers Morgan indulged his desire to gut the Second Amendment once again on his CNN talk show, and while most of his efforts were well ridiculed by Joel Pollak last night, one thing he brought up is a typical, though uninformed, question that many leftists illegitimately use to try and show why they should have all the power they want to ban any sort of weapon they feel like banning.

Early in Piers Morgan’s now seemingly daily discussion on guns, he once again garbled terms, misled on types of weapons, and basically displayed a woeful ignorance on the Second Amendment, as well as a lack of knowledge about what is already banned and why. It is that latter question that needs further discussion.

During the CNN show, Michael Nutter, the Mayor of Detroit, broached the question.

Michael Nutter: This is not about the Second Amendment. As you have said earlier I have said certainly many, many times, why does a civilian need a military-styled assault weapon, why does a civilian need body armor? You cannot buy hand grenades. Those are weapons but somehow they are prohibited. You can’t buy an F15 just because you think that you’d like to have that kind of device. So, we need to talk about more serious things…

Piers Morgan: We already have, actually, a lot of gun control in America. This is the myth of this debate. There’s already substantial gun control and commissioner let me ask you this, there’s lots of things are banned already it’s merely a question really of degree. And I have yet to hear a good argument for why an AR15, which is a military-styled weapon, why that should be in civilian hands?

Myth was a good word for Piers to use because he is promulgating one.

The programs, to be gathered under the rubric “After Newton,” will “continue the public conversation” by focusing on many aspects of the incident. Such issues as gun laws, mental illness, school security, and violence in society and the media will be featured in this series of programs meant to explore the crime.

Several PBS news-style programs will participate in the series. Among them will be “Frontline,” “PBS News Hour,” “Nova,” and “Washington Week With Gwen Ifill.” Ifill will anchor the special presentation.

‘No Comment’: Gun-Outing Newspaper Now Hiding Behind Expensive PR Firm

-By Warner Todd Huston

The small New York newspaper that made a big splash by publicizing the names and addresses of thousands of New York’s legal gun owners is now refusing to give comments to other news agencies and has hired a big time, expensive public relations firm from Manhattan as its public face.

Eric Wemple of the Washington Post recently found the curious situation when he contacted the Journal News to get some information but was told that he would now get his ubiquitous “no comment” from one Edmund Tagliaferri.

Wemple goes on to explain that Tagliaferri is an executive vice president at DKC, a Manhattan public relations, marketing and government affairs firm.

Yglesias recently Tweeted that very thing saying, “Sorry haters, a kidnapping of the First Kids would be a way bigger deal than a kidnapping of your kids.”

This is in response to the new NRA ad that calls the President and his gun-banning cohorts hypocrites and elitists for hiding behind armed guards and for having armed guards at their children’s schools even as they scoff at armed guards in your kid’s schools and while they endeavor to take your guns away from you.

CNN’s Morgan Thinks Government Will ‘Nuke’ Gun Owners

-By Warner Todd Huston

Piers Morgan has done it again, jumping into his anti-gun, anti-Constitution advocacy with both feet… in his mouth. Once again, Morgan took to Twitter to revel in his “civility,” this time ridiculing gun owners for being wary of the power of tyrannical government, scoffing that the Second Amendment won’t keep us all safe from a nuclear armed United States.

Morgan Tweeted his latest absurdist, misinformed Tweet on January 13: “America has over 5000 nuclear warheads. Quite hard to defend against a ‘tyrannical U.S. government’ with that kind of firepower. #GetReal”

So very vapid. Uninformed, ill thought out, and foolish all at once.

Are we to assume that Piers Morgan thinks that the only way governments ever trample on rights or oppress citizens is to “nuke” them?

Larry King: That Piers Morgan is Awfully Self-Absorbed, Isn’t He?

-By Warner Todd Huston

For years Larry King hosted the CNN show that is now helmed by British import Piers Morgan. Now King has opened up about his replacement and his pronouncement is not very flattering. King thinks Morgan makes the show too much about Morgan.

For those who remember, Larry King was more about being a conduit for the guests to entertain and enlighten viewers. His idea, perhaps an old fashioned TV ideal, was to make the show less about Larry King and more about the guests his viewers tuned in to watch.

King was old school in that way. We never learned much about the life or personal opinions of Jack Parr or Johnny Carson when they were hosting the Tonight Show, either. Those two icons let the guests speak and made their shows about the entertainment. For the most part, Larry King modeled himself on that classic version of the TV interview show.

But Larry King was quick to point out that Piers Morgan isn’t like that at all. Morgan is more about Morgan than he is about the guests, King said.

“I never gave opinions,” King said of his own CNN show. “Piers gives his opinions. The show is a lot about him as much as the guests… He’s so different from me,” King lamented.

Report: BBC TV Star Abused Hundreds, Youngest Was 8

-By Warner Todd Huston

British police have finally issued its first major report on the criminal sex scandal that has rocked Britain’s TV and entertainment industry, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), for well over a year and the details are shocking.

Late BBC TV and radio star Jimmy Savile is accused of physically abusing hundreds of children–the youngest of whom was just 8–as well as many young adults whom he met through his high profile charity work at various children’s hospitals throughout England.

Savile’s crimes began in Manchester in 1955, peaked in the late 70’s and early 80’s, and continued at a lower pace all the way until at least 2009, two years before his death at 85.

The police report concludes that Savile committed 214 criminal offenses including 34 rapes or other serious sexual assaults across England. 450 people have come forward with information about Savile’s crimes

Cincy TV News Calls Out PIers Morgan’s False Anti-Gun Stats

-By Warner Todd Huston

During his raucous interview with rabble rouser Alex Jones, CNN’s Piers Morgan unleashed several false gun statistics to show how wonderful his British homeland is for its gun banning ways. But Cincinnati’s Fox affiliate WXIX didn’t let Morgan get away with it thoroughly debunking the CNNer’s false stats.

With his January 8 “Reality Check” segment, WXIX’s Ben Swann completely undermined Morgan’s gauzy claim that Britain’s gun banning ways makes his countrymen safer compared to the wild west that is the U.S.A.

During the interview with Alex Jones, Morgan kept blathering about how Great Britain only had 35 murders with guns in 2011. That is compared to 11,000 murders with guns in the U.S. Morgan piously maintained that this made Great Britain’s laws better.

But Swann used real statistics to show that Morgan’s claims are misleading in general and just plain wrong in specifics.

D.C. Attny Gen’s Office Now Investigating NBC’s Gregory Over Gun-Law Violation

-By Warner Todd Huston

The decision over whether or not to charge NBC’s David Gregory for breaking Washington D.C.’s strict gun-banning laws on a December 23 broadcast of Meet the Press is now in the hands of the D.C. Attorney General, authorities reported Tuesday.

The D.C. Police essentially kicked the case upstairs pushing the investigation into a new phase. Chief Cathy Lanier released an email that said in part, that her department had “completed the investigation into this matter, and the case has been presented to the OAG for a determination of the prosecutorial merit of the case.”

The case is now in the hands of Attorney General Irvin B. Nathan who’s office oversees prosecutions of “low-level offenses.” A spokesman for the office said they would not comment until their decision had been made.

CNN’s Morgan: AR-15 Rifles Turns America Into ‘Utter Wild West Hell’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Virulent anti-gun nut Piers Morgan is at it again with his wild-eyed hyperbole against guns. During an interview with former Marine Joshua Boston, Morgan claimed that AR-15 “assault rifles” are turning the U.S. into an “utter wild west hell.”

After Breitbart posted the story of Corporal Boston, USMC Ret., the media picked up on it and he’s since made the rounds of Fox News, various radio shows, and recently CNN’s Piers Morgan show.

Boston had written a letter to gun-grabbing Senator Dianne Feinstein telling her “No Ma’Am,” that he would not be allowing his Constitutional rights to be violated by any politician.

In keeping with his extreme positions against the U.S. Constitution, Morgan invited Corporal Boston onto his CNN show in order to rail against guns. Also in keeping with his wholly uninformed positions on guns, Morgan went on a terror disgorging misinformation and fearmongering against them, in this case the AR-15 rifle.

Gore’s TV Staffers Not Happy About Being Sold to Al Jazeera

Al Gore may have gotten a multi-million dollar payday from his new friends in Jihadland, but his Current TV employees don’t seem so all fired up about being sold to Al Jazeera.

Current TV employees were called to an early staff meeting in San Francisco and via teleconference to the New York and Los Angeles offices in order to be introduced to their new Al Jazeera masters.

Ehab Al Shihabi, executive director of Al Jazeera’s international operations, and Muftah AlSuwaidan, general manager of the London bureau were in attendance and so was Al Gore’s partner Joel Hyatt. But, Al Gore, Current TV’s globalwarming-pushing star was nowhere to be seen.

ESPN Apologizes for Brent Musburger’s On-Air Ogling of Katherine Webb

-By Warner Todd Huston

For some unknown reason ESPN has issued a formal apology to Katherine Webb, girlfriend of Alabama QB A.J. McCarron, for sportscaster Brent Musburger’s on-air ogling of the beauty during Alabama’s BCS Championship Game on Monday night.

In a statement on TwitLonger, ESPN spokesman Mike Soltys wrote: “Have been asked on focus on @_KatherineWebb in BCS: We always try to capture interesting storylines and the relationship between an Auburn grad who is Miss Alabama and the current Alabama quarterback certainly met that test. However, we apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far and Brent understands that.”

During the broadcast of the game on Monday, TV cameramen focused McCarron’s girlfriend and Musburger began riffing on how lucky quarterbacks were for their beautiful women.

“If you’re a youngster in Alabama, start getting the football out and throw it around the backyard with Pop.” Musburger said during the broadcast.

Musburger was attacked by many after the broadcast, but others have come to his support.

Politico Celebrates Obama’s ‘Bipartisan Spirit’ With Hagel Nomination
-By Warner Todd Huston

Upon President Obama’s nomination of Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense, Politico celebrated the move as proof of Obama’s “bipartisan spirit.”

Politico notes that Hagel has detractors on both sides of the aisle, but it appears the Washington political newser feels that makes him a great choice.

But inside the White House, the choice makes sense. It appeals to Obama’s bipartisan spirit — and the optics aren’t bad, either — to have any Republican as Defense secretary when Obama is seeking to end the war in Afghanistan and dramatically reduce the Pentagon’s budget.

Obama’s mythic sense of “bipartisanship” is deftly laid low by Peggy Noonan who wrote last week that Obama just loves to taunt.

Politico buries at the bottom of its long piece any listing of just why Hagel is opposed by some left and right.

Nat’l Review Readers Approve Dumping Boehner

-By Warner Todd Huston

National Review, one of the nation’s preeminent conservative magazines, recently hosted an online reader poll asking whether or not the attempted coup against House Speaker John Boehner was a good idea. A majority of NR’s respondents said it was.

Over the weekend on National Review’s website the reader poll showed that 66 percent of respondents thought the attempted coup against Boehner was a good idea. Only 34 percent didn’t. 14,090 visitors to the site voted.

National Review did excellent work keeping abreast of the attempt to oust Boehner. Most of its coverage was strictly news-like in its treatment of those threatening a coup by having Boehner ousted as Speaker last week and some NR voices were supportive of the Ohioan.

NR has supported Boehner’s plans in the past and only a few days before his re-election as Speaker, National Review was mostly supportive of Boehner’s work.

NR reporter Robert Costa followed the drama and did yeomen’s work reporting the ins and outs of the re-election of Boehner to his Speakership. Through his sources, Costa maintained throughout the struggle that Boehner had nothing to worry about.

Chief Beck proudly paraded the pair of launcher tubes at a press conference and gravely told those assembled, “Those are weapons of war, weapons of death. These are not hunting guns. These are not target guns. … they have no place in our great city.”

CNN’s Morgan Wants to Ban ‘Idiocy’ of Constitution

-By Warner Todd Huston

CNN’s Piers Morgan is still engaged in his crusade against the U.S. Constitution. His latest salvo in that war is to call “idiocy” on those who support the Second Amendment.

As is his wont, British citizen Morgan took to his Twitter account to once again denounce those in favor of the rights Americans enjoy.

A young man from Indiana going by the name Brice Widau Tweeted to Morgan asking him why we don’t “ban mayonnaise” since obesity is supposedly a bigger killer in the U.S. than are guns. Piers replied to the young man saying that he and those who support the Constitution are wallowing in “idiocy” and he wants to “ban” it.

I’d rather ban your kind of idiocy > RT @bassistbrice: @piersmorgan obesity is a number one killer in America. Should we ban mayonnaise?

Ex-Burglars Admit Gun Owner-Outing Map Helps Criminals

-By Warner Todd Huston

Fox News recently reported that ex-crooks are denouncing the New York paper that published the names and addresses of thousands of the state’s gun owners saying that publishing the information was nothing less than a road map for criminals planning home invasions and burglaries.

In the last half of December, the Journal News a small paper in suburban Westchester, New York, published an interactive map featuring the names and addresses of the gun owners in Rockland County. This information, the ex-burglars say, presents criminals with a ready list of easy targets.

“That was the most asinine article I’ve ever seen,” said Walter T. Shaw, 65, a former burglar and jewel thief who the FBI blames for more than 3,000 break-ins that netted some $70 million in the 1960s and 1970s. “Having a list of who has a gun is like gold – why rob that house when you can hit the one next door, where there are no guns?

“What they did was insanity,” added Shaw, author of “License to Steal,” a book about his criminal career.

The map of gun owners’ homes also gives those crooks specifically interested in stealing guns a roadmap for their criminal enterprises.

The paper the Guardian has become Britain’s newest champion for a minority of sorts. In a January 3 article, the UK paper has taken up the cause of pedophiles who claim they are just “ordinary members of society” that only need a little understanding.

The paper seriously presented pedophiles as but a misunderstood minority that do no real harm. As Telegraph writer Damian Thompson points out, “this is not some sick send-up” on his point. The UK Guardian is wholly serious.

Guardian feature columnist Jon Henley uncritically quotes convicted pedophiles like Tom O’Carroll who said that children enter into such “relationships” voluntarily. “If there’s no bullying, no coercion, no abuse of power, if the child enters into the relationship voluntarily … the evidence shows there need be no harm.”

Henley then trots out a few “experts” that present “proof” that kids are not harmed by the predators that abuse them.

Did Al Gore Give Jihadis A Foothold in U.S. Cable Market? Probably Not

When the Arab-owned TV network Al-Jazeera bought Al Gore’s Current TV Network, it likely imagined that it finally had its “in” into the U.S. television market, something the jihad-supporting network had for sometime hoped to find. But is it likely that Al-Jazeera’s purchase assure it of a ready-made American audience? It seems doubtful.

The first bad news for Al-Jazeera’s hope of pushing its Jihad-centric ideology came as soon as the purchase was announced and TIME-Warner cable announced it would immediately drop Al Gore’s little seen network once its sale to the radical Islamist broadcaster was announced.
