Lack of Leadership: France Takes Lead in Libya While Obama Fiddles

-By Warner Todd Huston

You know that an American administration has proven useless and ineffective for supporting liberty and freedom in oppressed countries when even France… France… takes the lead in recognizing a struggling, independent liberty movement. Such is the case in Libya where French President Nicolas Sarkozy has recognized and supported the Libyan rebels struggling to over throw Libyan dictator Gaddhafi.

For his part, President Obama, the man that is supposed to be fulfilling the role of the “leader of the free world” is attending school bullying pressers and secretly supporting fleebagging Democrats in Wisconsin while practically turning a blind eye to the Libyan rebels fighting for their lives.

So France takes the lead in coming to the aid of freedom.

Ind. Republicans Spoof on Fleebagging Democrats in Satire Song

-By Warner Todd Huston

At least the GOP has been civil during this whole debate. This is not something that the wild-eyed, hatemongers on the left of the union thugs can say. Well, here are some elected GOP officials in Indiana trying to lighten the mood a bit with a spoof on the old John Denver song “Take Me Home, County Road.”

The chorus of the Hoosier’s song goes: “Bring them home to the place they belong, Indiana!”

Great stuff.

Unions: Losing friends all around
By Nina Easton, Fortune/CNN Money

As Barack Obama stood on that frigid inaugural stage in 2009, labor leaders could envisage the glorious future awaiting them. Here, at last, was a President determined to help unions rebuild their sagging ranks by supporting a “card check” bill that would change the way unions are allowed to organize workers. Here was a President who openly criticized fellow Democrat Bill Clinton for signing the North American Free Trade Agreement. And here was a President who would put government health care for the uninsured at the center of his agenda.

Two years later card check is dead, Obama is out promoting free-trade deals, and his health care reform plan — passed without a government option — faces an uncertain future in the courts. And now a costly new front has opened in labor’s struggles: the states, where budget-cutting governors are targeting union salaries, benefits, and even collective-bargaining rights.

Not even the most union-friendly President in three decades can soften this harsh political terrain — a problem sure to vex his 2012 reelection bid…..

Dueling Union Bills in DC

-By Warner Todd Huston

First Congressional Democrats offered a national forced unionzation bill, and now Republicans have countered by putting forth a national worker’s freedom bill. With the luck breaking against unions in Wisconsin and the issue in an uproar in Ohio and Indiana it is now surprise that Congress has come to loggerheads with the same issue.

On Tuesday eight Republicans introduced the National Right to Work Act. Senator Jim DeMint says that he hopes it will, “reduce workplace discrimination by protecting the free choice of individuals to form, join, or assist labor organizations, or to refrain from such activities.”

Unions are less than 8 percent of the work force at this point yet those states that have more union members than others are doing less well. DeMint says that having unions is part of the problem.

Wash. Post’s Ezra Klein Absolves Radical Islam, ‘Young Christians’ Perpetrate ‘School Shootings’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Journolister and Washington Post writer Ezra Klein is another one of those liberals in the elite Old Media trying to pretend that there is no Islam in terrorism these days. He’s also another one of those who, in the face of reality, hyperbolically say that Christians are somehow just as prone to terrorism as Muslims. If only he could find any of that terrorism, he might have some veracity on the issue.

Oh, Klein is desperately trying to find that Christian terrorism no matter how wild a stretch it is, sure enough. Like President Obama and his Deputy National Security Advisor, Denis McDonough, Klein is trying to take criminal acts unconnected to religion perpetrated by Americans and morph them into “Christian terrorism.”

On MSNBCs Morning Joe for March 7, Klein tied himself into knots of illogic in order to absolve radical Islam for the thousands of acts of terrorism perpetrated over the last 50 or so years.

A Battle We Cannot Afford to Lose

– By Jeff Lukens

Patriots since the founding have always risen to the challenges of their time. Today, we must do the same. As the debt crisis deepens, the time is growing short. We must demand our lawmakers speak truthfully about the budget, and offer real solutions.

We know that the biggest threat to our way of life today is our growing debt. Yet progressives in government and in the media disrespect us. They label us extremists and racists when all we are calling for is a responsible government that controls its spending.

Federal spending is up 108 percent from what it was 10 years ago. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the deficit this fiscal year will be nearly $1.6 trillion, the largest in peacetime history. The government borrows 40 cents of every dollar they spend. As the deficit reaches 10 percent of our annual GDP, the debt is now equal to it.

UPDATE!! Produce Starting to Rot But Prices Barely Coming Down

So I was at the store tonight, and fortunately, my favorite produce clerk was there. The Roma Tomatoes were holding steady since I wrote on them earlier in the week, so we talked plums for a bit.

My life is plum exciting…yours is about to be too.

There were two kinds there, the black (left) and the red (right.) Neither of them were particularly big individually…plums usually are pretty small.

Union Abuses in Wisconsin

From the office of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker

Madison— Today Governor Walker’s office released more specific examples and new details to show how collective bargaining fiscally impacts government and how reforming collective bargaining can improve government.

A Year’s Worth of Pay for 30 Days of Work

Under the Green Bay School District’s collectively bargained Emeritus Program, teaches can retire and receive a year’s worth of salary for working only 30 days over a three year period. This is paid in addition to their already guaranteed pension and health care payouts.

At the average annual salary for a Green Bay teacher of $51,355, this amounts to a daily rate of pay of $1,711.83, or an hourly rate of $213.98. Since most retiring teachers receive higher than average salary, these amounts are, in practice, much higher.

Republicans In Wisc. Pass Curbs on Gov’t Unions

-By Warner Todd Huston

After all the huffing and puffing, we find that Wisconsin’s Republicans have a spine after all. They have taken a step that they have many times threatened and divvied up the budget bill with the provisions to scale back some of the collective bargaining “rights” once had by the state’s government employees and gone ahead and passed the thing.

On Wednesday night, the Wisconsin Senate — minus the fleebagging Democrats that have run off to Illinois — separated from the budget bill the part of the previous legislation that eliminates some, but not all, of the collective bargaining capacity of government workers.

Even though the past legislation could not be passed without a quorum because of the fleeing Democrats, the Senate Republicans utilized a work around to pass the parts of the legislation that affected unions. By separating the union parts out of the budget bill, they got around the quorum requirements that are necessary to pass bills that concern spending. With the part that didn’t spend money in committee legally and properly and without the need for a quorum the Republicans passed the union provisions.

Ill. Gov. Quinn Repealing Death Penalty

-By Warner Todd Huston

Claiming that “It is impossible to create a perfect system, one that is free of all mistakes,” Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn signed a bill that would eliminate the death penalty in Illinois, despite a campaign promise that he would keep it.

In signing the order, Quinn also commuted the sentences of 15 death row inmates converting the sentences to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

During his recent campaign to take his own full term as Governor (Quinn filled out disgraced Gov. Blagojevich’s last term), Quinn claimed that he’d keep the death penalty, but he also said he’d keep the moratorium in place as the system is reviewed. His opponent at the time, State Senator Bill Brady, said he would end the moratorium.

It Begs the Question: The Cowboy Poetry Society

-By Frank Hyland

The speech by U.S. Senate Majority Bleater Harry Reid (D, NV) on the Senate floor on March 8th is destined to become a classic in the pantheon of such utterances. In condemning the cutting of funds for the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Sen. Reid decried the ending of an annual festival in Nevada and stated, “Had that program not been around, the tens of thousands of people who come there every year would not exist.” We’ll leave it to a higher authority in the field of Medicine to determine whether the attendees would still exist.

The National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, the actual name of the festival, was held this year from January28th to February 4th. Direct from the festival’s website is the cost of tickets to the events:

“For the 27th National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, if purchased prior to December 22, 2010, a four-day Deluxe Pass was $60 and included the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering program book. After December 22, the cost increased to $75. If not purchased as a part of a Deluxe Pass, the program book sold for $6.00. A single Day Pass for Wednesday, January 26 was $15, and single Day Passes for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, January 27-29 were $25 each.”

‘Atheists for Islam’ Happy to Support Religion?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Sometimes a single picture is enough to put the left’s folly in crystal clear terms and we have one for you today.

The current crop of militant atheists have been parading about the country wailing about how the evil, evil Christians are oppressing them by having non-sectarian things like “In God We Trust” on our money or allowing a manger scene on city property. That’s some oppression, there, eh?

Well, last weekend a photo was snapped that shows exactly what militant atheists really mean behind their rhetoric. Oh, they aren’t against religion. They don’t likely think they are being oppressed, either. No their real goal is rather simple. They are enemies of Christianity exclusively.

Today’s militant atheists aren’t looking for “equality” or “fair treatment.” They only want one thing: the destruction of Christianity. The total elimination of it in public.

Why do I say that? Witness the photo below snapped at the March 6th “I Am A Muslim Too” rally held at Times Square, New York, organized by rap music mogul Russell Simmons.

This is a stark contradiction in terms, is it not? Atheists are spending every waking minute telling anyone that will listen that religion is the root of all evil — and by that they mean Christianity — yet here they are helping to support Islam at an “interfaith” rally?

How does that track? How does it make any sense at all?

Wisc. Democrat Tells Workers Pay Union Dues or Lose Your Job

-By Warner Todd Huston

You can only serve one master and Democrats have chosen unions over the people. Proof of this is once again seen in the post by Bryan Preston of Pajamas Media where we find a Democrat lawmaker from Wisconsin who has announced that if you don’t want to pay dues to his union masters, why, then you should expect not to work in Wisconsin.

State Rep. Nick Milroy is the Democratic state representative from Wisconsin’s 73rd assembly district. He was on America’s Radio News with anchors Chris Salcedo and Lori Lundin. Salcedo pointed out that union membership was split by their votes in 2010, 49% for Democrats and 47% for Republicans, nearly an even split. But unions donated 93% of their total contributions to Democrats in 2010, and 7% to Republicans or others. The question was asked if the assemblyman could understand why Republicans were not in favor of having tax payer funded dues go to fund Democrat campaigns? The assemblyman contended that public employees can opt out of the unions. But when pressed about how even those that opt out must pay union dues, the assemblyman suggested that those people that didn’t want to be part of a union could find other work.

Get that, folks? As far as this union bought and paid for politician is concerned, if you don’t want to support unions expect to lose your ability to work in Wisconsin.

Head on over to Bryan Preston’s page and hear the outrageous audio of this radio appearance.

Loud Mouthed, Hatemongering, Violent Teachers Shut Down Towhnhall Meeting

-By Warner Todd Huston

Is this the distempered, hatemongering that our “teachers” are teaching our children?

The video below is the last seven minutes of a townhall meeting that was held on March 7 in Wisconsin. It was hosted by Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner (R, WI) and State Senator Leah Vukmir (R-Wauwatosa). The video shows that the pols quietly listened to the whiner teacher issue her lies about what the situation is in the state but when State Sen. Vukmir went to the podium to try and respond, the crowd filled with distempered union thugs erupted and would not let her finish her points.

Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but when scenes like this were reported to the nation back in 2009 when Tea Party members were interrupting townhalls because they were so upset at Democrat lawmakers, why, the Democrats and their handmaidens in the Old Media establishment were filled with dire warnings that the uproars were evidence of the end of our polite political discourse was nigh.

Whatever Happened to Domestic Tranquility?

-By Rev Michael Bresciani‏

According to the framers of the Constitution one of the original intentions of ordaining that revered document was to insure domestic tranquility. The term was used in the preamble to the Constitution and has never been used to adjudicate any constitutional questions.

In this moment in time, where a sitting President has recently announced to the nation that our laws needn’t be enforced (DOMA – Defense of Marriage Act) it would hardly seem like the time to drag the preamble into the fray and look for some meaning or guidance. Yet, at the moment it may be all we have.

It may be agreed upon that the Constitution does not contemplate the secession of states from the Union but who would have guessed that we would elect a President who would secede from the Constitution. In this day of high perversion, can America deal with this complexity?

VIDEO: NPR Execs Love Radical Islamists, Hate Conservatives/Tea Party

-By Warner Todd Huston

Undercover video maker James O’Keefe has struck again. This time he had his crew pose as members of a radical Islamic group that wanted to donate $5 million to National Public Radio (NPR) and during the lunch NPR execs said that they loved the radical Muslim group and hated American conservatives and Tea Partiers.

Remember, folks, we are supporting these terror-loving anti-Americans with out tax money…

Speaking of tax money, another very, very interesting bit of this video is that these NPR execs admitted that they really didn’t need the federal tax money that they are given every year. They admitted that they’d easily get by if it disappeared.

But imagine. Your tax money is going to support an American media outlet that hates half of America and finds themselves disposed to easily side with enemies of America that are responsible for terrorist attacks against us.

Yep. time to defund them NOW!

Why Did Rep. Paul Ryan Vote for Destructive Union Giveaway?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Wisconsin’s Republican Representative Paul Ryan is one of the most well known budget hawks in Congress today. Yet seeming to defy that reputation last week Ryan voted against putting a halt to a budget bloating union giveaway. So what happened?

The amendment was an effort to end project labor agreements on federal construction projects in 2011. This is the sort of thing one would think that every Republican would naturally vote for. Yet the final vote left the tally standing at a tie which meant the measure failed to pass. Twenty-six Republicans voted against this good amendment, Ryan being one of them.

Schools Snub Obama’s Speaking Contest

-By Warner Todd Huston

Last year 1,000 high schools competed to win the chance to have President Obama attend their graduation exercises. But this year, the White House is scrambling to understand why only 68 schools have applied for the honor.

The Political Hotsheet blog at CBSNews tells us that internal memos are flummoxed as to why so few schools have applied for the competition for this year’s graduation.

The competition was extended from the February 25 deadline until Friday, March 11 after few schools met the original application deadline. CBS News has learned a White House Communications Office internal memo dated February 22 noted “a major issue with the Commencement Challenge.”

“As of yesterday we had received 14 applications and the deadline is Friday,” the memo said. The memo also urged recipients to, “please keep the application number close hold.”

A follow-up memo on February 28 reported receipt of 68 applications. Noting the competition among more than 1,000 schools last year, the memo said, “Something isn’t working.” It called on staffers to ask “friendly congressional, gubernatorial and mayoral offices” to encourage schools to apply.

After the news of the White House struggling to get applicants got out, the White House would not respond to further questions on just how many applications had been received by Monday, March 7.

Union Waste: Retiring Wisc. Teachers Given a Year’s Salary for 30 Day’s Work

-By Warner Todd Huston

As each week rolls onward we see more and more of the outrageous waste and unearned perks that government union teachers in Wisconsin are — ahem — fortunate enough to have gotten because of the unions “negotiating” with Wisconsin Democrats over the years. Another such outrage is a program where retiring teachers can earn a full year’s pay for 30 days work over a three-year-period.

This “emeritus program” allows retired teachers a full years pay for only 10 day’s work for during each of a three-year period (30 days total work).

Fox News Green Bay reports that the Green Bay School Board has suddenly approved requests by some 140 retiring teachers and 15 administrators to join the emeritus program likely because they know the writing is on the wall and they want to make one more run at the taxpayer’s bank before the gravy train grinds to a halt. Last year only 24 teachers were allowed to join the program.

Left Decries Palin’s Stalker… Or Not

-By Warner Todd Huston

Last month a stalker of Sarah Palin was discovered only 50 miles from her home in Alaska. He has been talking about “tracking her down” at book signings, falsely claimed he’s had a sexual relationship with her, and has sent the Palin’s receipts of gun purchases. So, now I am waiting for the leftists that immediately began to blame the shooting on Gabrielle Giffords on “violent right-wing rhetoric” to point to the violent left-wing rhetoric that would cause a teenager to buy guns (and send the receipt to Palin), send threatening emails, make threatening phone calls, call himself Palin’s “magic enemy,” and ultimately set out to threaten her at her home, until caught by the FBI.

Like Verum Serum I’m waiting for that sincere national dialog from the left. Waaaaaiting….

Naturally, we have to turn to foreign press to hear the story as the US press didn’t make much noise about the stalker Shawn Christy, 19, from Pennsylvania.

Wrestling with Morality: Boys vs. Girls on the Mat

-By Selwyn Duke

Imagine that you’re a young adolescent boy. Like many your age, you’re shy around girls, perhaps to the point at which even talking to one might make your heart race. You also like sports, so you go out for your school’s wrestling team. Then, lo and behold, you’re at a meet, and something hits you like a load of bricks.

Your opponent is going to be a girl.

You’re going to have to grapple with her. In front of spectators. Touching — and being touched in — intimate places.

You’d have to be touched to think this is okay, but it’s precisely the situation that confronted sophomore wrestler Joel Northrup at the recent Iowa State Championship. His response, as many of you already know, was to default his match against 14-year-old Cassy Herkelman and relinquish the chance to win a coveted wrestling title in deference to his moral convictions.

America’s Gay White House

-By Alan Caruba

A news item by Agence Press France flew under the radar of many American news media. On February 25th it reported that “The White House on Friday named Jeremy Bernard to serve as social secretary to President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama, the first male and first openly gay person to hold the position.”

Barack Obama, married and father of two girls, may be straight, but he has proven to be the most active President when it comes to efforts that would establish homosexuality as a “normal” lifestyle in America. He is not alone in this; it is the goal of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender movement (GLBT) in America.

While I fully expect to evoke howls from the GLBT movement in saying this, the fact remains that no where in nature is homosexuality the norm. It is always an aberration because heterosexuality ensures the propagation of any and all species. It is abnormal for members of the same sex to prefer one another. The recognition of this fact reaches back to the origins of humanity.

Denial: Obama Nat’l Sec. Advisor Says ‘Many Different Faiths’ Turn to Terrorism

What do they say about denial, that it isn’t just a river in Egypt? That old quip constantly is brought to mind as President Obama and his administration prove over and over again that they are in complete denial about the danger we are facing in radical Islam.

This time it is the woefully absurd claim made by Denis McDonough, Obama’s Deputy National Security Advisor, who said that members of many different religions “succumb to terrorist ideologies.” McDonough said this in an address given on March 6 at the Islamic ADAMS Center in Sterling, Virginia.

With his remarks at the headquarters of this Muslim organization, McDonough proved that he simply refuses to recognize reality concerning radical Islam and is even willing to minimize that threat by pretending that all religions contain “terrorists.”

For Crying Out Loud: Taxpayers Forced To Pay for Union Workers’ Coffee

-By Warner Todd Huston

It is absolutely impossible any more to come up with parody about how much government unions are ripping off the taxpayer. Witness the fact that a city in Connecticut is being forced to pay for the coffee and related refreshment supplies of its government union members.

Todd Starnes of Fox News reports that the town of Orange, Connecticut has been told by the State Board of Labor Relations that it must provide “free” coffee and milk to the members of the United Public Service Employees Union.

The union ripoff artists got upset when town administration eliminated the free refreshments in order to save money in the budget. Instead of seeing it as a logical belt-tightening measure, the union decided they were being persecuted and took their case to the Democrat heavy State Labor Relations Board which dutifully ruled in their patrons, the union’s, favor.

Of the expense for the “free” coffee, Wayne Gilbert, the regional director and chief spendthrift of the UPSE, scoffed that “It’s like a couple of bucks a week.”

Sadly, the boy’s day got a lot worse after he drew a picture of a scene from one of his video games, which featured zombies and stick figures, wrote that he wanted to die, and was forced into a psychiatric ward by school administrators against his mother’s wishes.

“They said it was out of my hands,” said an outraged Syndi Dorman. “They said they were in control and they could do this and had already called an ambulance.”

Deasy and Duffy: The Dinosaurs Amongst Us

-By Larry Sand

School district and teacher union leaders need to embrace serious education reform or go the way of the Stegosaurus.

My post last week concerned itself with the fact that some or even many teachers might lose their jobs come June due to the dire financial straits in which many school districts find themselves. The Los Angeles Unified School District alone sent Reduction in Force (RIF) notices to over 4,000 teachers, advising them that they may be laid off at the end of this school year. I made the point that many of the cutbacks would not have been necessary had the districts not over-hired in the first place.

Upon hearing the news of the RIF notices, John Deasy, the man who very shortly will take over as LAUSD Superintendent, whined, “The state of California does not support children. Period.” This ridiculous statement was a response to the fact that out of necessity, the legislators in Sacramento – hardly a flinty bunch – will be making cuts in education spending.
