ObamaCare, RomneyCare, and the Truth

-By Richard J. Little

Here is the unspoken truth about ObamaCare aka RomneyCare: It was a mutual beneficial conspiracy by the DC political elite in both parties into to force the implementation of stealth government-run health care

If you’re a single-minded cheerleader for the GOP, I am sorry to have to break the bad news to you but yes – both parties were collaborators in the health care coup. It’s quite clear now that current GOP establishment favorite Mitt Romney, from the USA Today op-ed he posted in 2009, was in on this establishment conspiracy to lie to the American public and leave us with government-run health care.

From my analysis, the plot that was agreed on behind closed doors by the Statist establishment politicians and crony capitalists was to be political theater on a grand scale for the ignorant masses. And when it was kicked off in the spring of 2009, it all seemed to be simply a matter of saying the right lines needed to fool the public.

Here is the basic script that was to be followed:

This Ship Needs a Captain not just a Businessman

-By Rev Michael Bresciani

In this day of the history challenged it may not be safe to assume that everyone knows that it was Captain John Paul Jones who in the fall of 1779 said the famous words, “I have not yet begun to fight.” Even fewer may know that his ship the Bonhomme Richard had its upper decks nearly blown off and with what may have looked like a tattered raft the fight continued. Two hands assuming that both captain and first officer had been slain went about to lower the ship’s pendant from the mainmast, but were interrupted by Jones who flew toward them with pistols in hand.

The captain threw his unloaded pistols at the mates missing one and striking the other on the head leaving him unconscious. The master of the powerful British warship Serapis called out to Jones and asked if he was about to quarter. (Give up and surrender) Jones’ famous reply has been the example of every great naval officer since, but it doesn’t stop there. The best fighting men, statesmen and ordinary Americans, ever since, have been heard to say the same.

A New Theme Song for Rick Santorum

This is a surprisingly good song. Whether you think Rick is “our man” or not, this is a jaunty, well written tune with a great pop sound to it. The girls have great, smooth voices and the music itself is well played.

It’s called Game On – Song for Rick Santorum – Super Tuesday Surprise by a family band named First Love.

Listen and enjoy…

False Fronts: Obama Still Pretending Fluke is an Innocent Kid

-By Warner Todd Huston

If you want to see how the left skews the narrative using untrue claims and false imagery to sell a message, you don’t need any other example than President Obama’s recent press conference where he continued to perpetrate the myth that Sandra Flake is somehow an innocent coed, a kid barely out of high school, when she is actually a long-time liberal activist in her 30s.

At the press conference the President was asked about Rush Limbaugh and his apology. Not only did Obama drag his own daughters into the debate, but he said he told activist Fluke that “her parents should be proud of her.” This line feeds into the myth that Sandra Fluke is but a young coed. However, Fluke is 30 years old. People stop assuring folks that their parents should be proud of them once they begin approaching middle age, certainly! If Mz. Fluke’s parents still aren’t proud of her as a 30-year-old, I doubt the president can help matters much.

But the thing here is, the left wants to promulgate the false image that Fluke is a young woman, innocent as the driven snow. She just isn’t. She’s a conniving activist, not a wide-eyed coed.

Lower Than Pond Scum

-By Alan Caruba

Between 1955 and 1959 I was a student at the University of Miami. It was perhaps the best four years of my life and remembered fondly for its combination of fun and learning. On Thursday, February 23, President Barack Obama was on the UM campus to tell the biggest bunch of lies about energy in America I have heard compressed into a single speech.

This President has already set records wasting taxpayer’s money on a range of so-called clean energy and renewable energy “investments”. Solyndra, the solar panel company that went bust and stuck taxpayers with a half-billion in loan guarantees is just one of those “investments” and I keep waiting for someone to ask why public funds are being flushed down the toilet when, if the companies involved were viable, they could not raise private venture capital?

“And we’re making investments in the development of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel that’s actually made from a plant-like substance known as algae,” said the President. “Believe it or not, we could replace up to 17% of the oil we important for transportation with this fuel that we can grow right here in America.”

She’s No Fluke: Is the Word ‘Slut’ Still Relevant?

-By Selwyn Duke

A woman close to me once characterized the sea change in our society well. “Years ago you knew who the bad girls were,” said she. “Now you know who the good girls are.”

And the good boys get condemned for not pretending the bad girls are good.

I am, of course, speaking about the dust up involving law student Sandra Fluke and talk-show host Rush Limbaugh. Fluke had said in front of Congress that financing rolls in the hay can be so expensive that it can be a burden on women in law school. So she wants you, dear taxpayer, to foot the bill for her contraception. In response to this, Limbaugh called her a “slut” during his commentary on the matter. And now he’s being labeled a “sexist” and misogynistic for it (he has since apologized).

Of course, in Fluke’s testimony, she didn’t literally say that she was having $1000-worth of sex a year. What she said was, “Without insurance coverage, contraception can cost a woman over $3000 during law school. For a lot of students who, like me, are on public interest scholarships, that’s practically an entire summer’s salary.” Now, I’ll leave it to you to determine her implication, but I’ll say that if a female law student is engaging in so much sexual congress that she’s spending a mint on birth-control, I wouldn’t reflexively assume she’s a slut.

Because I’d wonder how she was working her way through law school.

Santorum Is Absolutely Correct On At Least One Point

-By Frank Salvato

Earlier this week, GOP presidential hopeful Rick Santorum hit the nail directly on the head when he addressed the disingenuousness of the mainstream media when it comes to the Republican field of candidates vying for the party’s nomination and the entirety of the so-called “debate” process. This may not be earth-shattering news to those who eat, sleep and breathe Conservative politics (or politics in general) but it is newsworthy when a politico actually stands up and presents a challenge to rank-and-file voters to do something about it.

During a campaign stop in Maricopa County, Arizona, in preparation for the upcoming Arizona Primary Election, Sen. Santorum said:

“Will you be the generation that sat on the sidelines and watched as candidate after candidate comes up and the national media takes their axe out to try to destroy them in every way possible as they’ve done with every single Republican candidate, and as they will between now and the election?…Will you sit on the sidelines and say, ‘Boy that’s not fair,’ or will you stand up and fight back for freedom?”

Bravo, Mr. Santorum. Bravo.

Barack Obama’s Costly Broken Promises

Candidate Barack Obama regularly flipped positions for political gain, perhaps learning an unfortunate lesson that flip-flopping has no costs. However, as taxpayers are learning, President Obama’s broken promises have very real costs.

As the president took office, his advisers released an analysis that promised his stimulus bill would prevent the unemployment rate from rising over 8 percent. Obviously it has not. For example, in October 2009 the rate was 10.0 percent, 2.1 percent above the rate promised by the president. That 2.1 percent translates into 3.3 million more workers out of work that month than the president promised. Using the average hourly earnings in that month, the lost jobs in November translated to $11.2 billion in lost wages in one month alone.

Obama’s failed promise to reduce the deficit totals: $1,090,700,000,000

For that amount of money we could pay for:

  • 88,33,170 Americans to go to college
  • 6,562,575 homes
  • 294 billion gallons of gas

Obama’s failed promise to keep unemployment below 8% with the stimulus totaled: $423,000,000,000 in lost wages

For that amount of money we could pay for

  • 34,257,753 Americans to go to college
  • 2,545,126 homes
  • 114 billion gallons of gas

Slut-Gate: Obama’s Orchestrated, Left-Wing Campaign Plan

-By Warner Todd Huston

You know the story by now, right? Republicans run the he-man women haters club.

As the media has it the story goes like this: poor, unassuming, innocent Georgetown coed, accidentally ends up in front of Congress pleading for “reproductive rights.” Evil mean conservatives led by scalawag Rush Limbaugh unfairly call her a slut and announce a war on women to end their “access to contraception.”

Of course, that’s the left-wing media’s narrative. The real tale is that this is as manufactured a story as you can find, one created for the purpose of assisting Obama and his Democrat cohorts win the upcoming election. It’s all a scam.

The “coed” in question is one Sandra Fluke, a young woman that has been presented as some sort of expert in “reproductive rights” (another one of those faux rights we that have been foisted onto the public debate of late), but is she? Where did Mz Fluke really come from and what is her background? Why was she presented as some sort of “expert” by a sitting Congresswoman, the former Speaker of the House, no less?

Sluts Without Shame!

-By Don Boys, Ph.D.

Since the Fall of man, the earth has been cursed with women (and men) who used their bodies in illicit ways. They have been called loose women, prostitutes, whores, fallen women, and sluts; however, in earlier days, there was a sense of shame and disgrace in their activities. Even Hollywood lowlifes tried to be discrete. While “slut” is considered offensive, so is the lifestyle.

When I was young, if an unmarried woman got pregnant, she was sent to “visit her grandmother” for a few months. The family still loved her, wanted the best for her, forgave her, but there was a lasting sense of shame. But those days are long gone. Society calls it “reproductive freedom” but God calls it whoredom; and status, beauty, money, and education don’t change anything.

Yes, any of our unmarried daughters can get pregnant and it is a heartbreaking situation, but when it happens again and again, the young woman is a slut, whether she is my daughter or yours. Of course, getting pregnant doesn’t make her a slut, being sexually immoral does. Sex outside of marriage is always wrong.

Worst President Ever: Obama’s Intimidation Tactics Continue

-By Warner Todd Huston

Obama and his campaign apparatus have been filling the minds of possible campaign donors with calumnies and untruths about the left’s newest, favorite whipping boys: the Koch brothers. Typical of left-wing demagogues, most of what Obama has been saying about the two libertarian leaning businessmen is simply untrue. But that doesn’t seem to stop him from using the Koch brothers as a boogie man who Obama tells liberals are hiding under their beds at night ready to drag them kicking and screaming into the deep, dark pit of American exceptionalism.

Last week, Obama’s re-election campaign sent out a fundraising letter disparaging the Kochs, saying that they were purposefully “jacking up prices at the pump” in order to hurt Americans. The letter, signed by Obama’s Campaign Manager Jim Messina, also attacked the Tea Party and warned that Mitt Romney was going to court the Kochs who he characterized as “two men obsessed with making Barack Obama a one-term president.”

These scare tactics are blatant for their untruths and were easily demolished in a reply letter written by Phillip Ellender, the President of Koch’s Government & Public Affairs department. (Instead of summarizing, I’ll repost the entirety of the letter below.)

Samuel L. Jackson Drops the Act: Admits He Only Voted for Obama because of Race

-By Selwyn Duke

Hey, Jackson, is it Samuel L. or Jesse? Actually, it’s more likely that the actor was channeling Jeremiah Wright.

In a racial-epithet-laced interview with Ebony magazine, the Pulp Fiction star proved that his politics is a fiction and his head is filled with, well, you fill in the blank. Jackson admitted that he only voted for Barack Obama because of the president’s skin color. Said the actor, “I voted for Barack because he was black. ‘Cuz that’s why other folks vote for other people – because they look like them. That’s American politics, pure and simple. [Obama’s] message didn’t mean **** to me.”

Well, Jackson certainly isn’t alone in his ignoring of Obama’s message. As for people voting for those who look like them, Sammy, project much? In 2008, 43 percent of whites overall cast ballots for Obama, which is only 4 points below Jimmy Carter’s share in 1976; moreover, 54 percent of young whites voted for Mr. Hope and Change, a record for a Democratic candidate for the last three decades. These facts prove that whites can be colorblind and fail to see red just like anyone else.

Chop Licking: How Obama Uses Falsehoods to Advance His Policies

-By Warner Todd Huston

Last week we all got a great lesson in how the left promotes a lie to make Republicans the enemy and this time President Obama was a chief participant.

This is how the game is played: the left-leaning media establishment makes a claim about how rotten Republicans are and Obama then echoes the claim and presents it as the true state of Republican opposition to his policies. The result is that we have a partisan opinion foisted on the public as truth about how mean the GOP is to this poor, well-meaning president. A false media narrative is established by the partisan press, politician adds said meme to a policy speech, presto-chango, a political “fact” is born. But it’s all just a partisan hit job masquerading as fact.

We are talking, of course, about President Obama’s claim that the GOP is “licking their chops” over the bad news of high gas prices. This is the line uttered by the president in his most misleading energy speech delivered in Florida on February 23.

In that speech, President Obama claimed that Republicans were happy that gas prices were hurting Americans. Obama intended to show that Republicans didn’t care that America was hurting, happy they could use it as a political tool to hurt the president and his well-meaning policies.

Here is what he said:

“Some politicians, they see this as a political opportunity. I know you’re shocked by that. Last week the lead story in one newspaper said, ‘Gasoline prices are on the rise and Republicans are licking their chops.’ That’s a quote. That was the lead. Licking their chops. Only in politics do people root for bad news. Do they greet bad news so enthusiastically.”

Note how Obama uses the partisan slam, published in “one newspaper” written by a left-wing writer and presents this as fact about how Republicans feel about rising gas prices. Note that Obama didn’t quote any actual Republican saying rising gas prices is a good thing. He quoted one of his own follower’s partisan claims and then assigned that false narrative to his political enemies.

Another Reason Why Going Negative Is a Bad Thing

-By Frank Salvato

Unless you are an inside-the-beltway campaign consultant or you have been living an oblivious life, you most likely stand with the rest of the American electorate in being increasingly disgusted with the negative tone that the Republican candidates for President have employed over the last few months. The opportunity for the GOP candidates to coalesce behind a common goal – the “de-transformation of the United States of America” – is slowly passing. The opportunity for them to embrace a teachable moment so as to explain, in layman’s terms, why the country has suffered under the current administration’s policies, and why their proposed platforms bring relief to individuals and business owners across the political ideological divide, is slowly fading into the history books as “what could have been.” It doesn’t have to be this way, but, then, the proprietary minions of the inside-the-beltway GOP establishment don’t much care for the notions of we “fly-over” types. They know all about campaign strategy. Just ask them.

If avoiding the alienation of the electorate’s goodwill wasn’t enough of a reason not to go so personally and caustically negative, there is the notion that in doing so a great amount of damage would be done to each of the candidates, so much so – and for no other reason than to win the nomination at all cost – that the Obama campaign would be handed a full arsenal of negative talking-point ammunition for the General Election campaign. Armed with this free opposition research, already tested for its maximum destructive potency, and close to a $1 billion campaign war chest, David Axelrod, Valerie Jarrett, David Plouffe and Roberts Gibbs could get a mentally challenged three-toed tree sloth elected over the Republican challenger.

And while there is merit to the argument that the negative attack campaigning is “honing” the eventual candidate’s ability to confront the Obama campaign’s inevitable onslaught of attack ads and smear tactics, the fact of the matter is this: Axelrod, Jarrett, Plouffe, Gibbs and President Obama himself are infinitely more acclimated and proficient in the ways of Saul Alinsky than anyone on the Right side of the aisle, short of David Horowitz. The idea that any Republican candidate can compete in the arena of Alinsky negative political campaigning is a reality only in the realm of the absurd. Only a megalomaniac of a Republican campaign strategist would even entertain such a ridiculous notion.

We Need YOUR Help to Fight Voter Fraud in Wisconsin Recall Elections

Patriots are fighting to uphold the integrity of the election process in Wisconsin WILL YOU HELP?

Wisconsin is Just the Beginning.

In an effort to oust Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker (along with the Lieutenant Governor and 4 Senators) the union backed group United Wisconsin led a massive drive to fill petition pages by any means necessary, flooding Wisconsin’s Government Accountability Board with more signatures than anyone ever expected. When the GAB stated they couldn’t process such an influx and planned only to do visual spot checks, True the Vote decided to take action. True the Vote, together with Wisconsin GrandSons of Liberty and We the People of the Republic, launched an effort to engage citizens in an independent, comprehensive audit of recall petition signatures. Why? Because if government can’t or won’t stand up to such Cloward and Piven-esque strategies, then citizens must.

Fellow Patriots, It’s Go Time!

We need your help! All we ask for is 100 minutes. In 100 minutes you can enter data for approximately 100 petition signatures. Nearly 13,000 volunteers from 49 states have signed up to participate in this recall effort – if we all work together this weekend, we can get the job done. This is the real deal – citizens are taking control – let’s stand together!

We Can See the Finish Line

Ours is the only effort with manpower and technology to crowd-source the 152,000+ documents that were meant to drown the GAB and we are 75% of the way done. But WE NEED MORE HELP to get all the signatures entered and THE CLOCK IS TICKING! All challenges in the Walker recall are due on February 27th. We want to post our findings online by February 25th. This timetable requires all signatures to be entered by February 23rd at the latest. Citizens have already found tens of thousands of ineligible names. Here’s an example – Donald Duck signed the petition – and his address is a Starbucks. Signup to help identify this kind of fraud!

If we don’t complete this audit, United Wisconsin wins by default and the clenched fist tactic of recall petition overwhelm will rage across our nation. Wisconsin is just the beginning.

Sign up right here right now

Soon after you signup you’ll receive an email with your password and instructions – then you’ll be ready to go! This audit effort is not about politics – it is about principle. Either we the people are strong enough to stand against union strong-arm tactics or we’re not. Government has already given up. The citizens of this country must hold the line. Invest 100 minutes this weekend, help the citizens of Wisconsin finish strong, and take a stand for election integrity!

And one more request – after you sign up, PLEASE FORWARD this information to your own email lists and ask them to forward it, too.

We can do this, we can do anything, when we stand together.

Onward –

A Moment with Rep. Allen West at CPAC 2012

-By Warner Todd Huston

The conservative bloggers at CPAC were happy to receive a visit from Representative Allen West (Florida, 22nd District) this year. The second he walked into the room he was mobbed by the bloggers and their ubiquitous handi-cams.

West talked vice presidential possibilities, South America, his status as the most outspoken congressman on the Hill, military meals, Marco Rubio, and more.

An amusing side note, close to the beginning of this video some TV folks from Sky News ran into our blogger room and tried to monopolize the Congressman for their TV camera. One of the bloggers, Jeff Dunetz of Yid With Lid, chased them out saying “You’re not credentialed for this room!” Love it. Jeff is a bulldog.

In any case, Col. West was a very nice fellow, for sure. Humble and straight-forward.

Heartland Institute: The ‘Gate’ Scandal That Never Was

-By Warner Todd Huston

Global warmists finally have an email “gate” of their own that they can turn against “deniers” and they are taking full advantage of it. The Warmists are excited that the Heartland Institute, a Chicago-based state policy group, has been “outed” for attempting to undermine the religiously held tenets of global warming. Emails to that effect are claimed to have been leaked from this group and the warmists as well as their handmaidens in the Old Media are touting this scandal as proof of… well, it’s a bit hard to discern what it is proof of. In fact, it isn’t “proof” of much of anything, really.

For one thing the documents are fakes, but even if they weren’t… so what?

For quite some time, for instance, Chicago’s Heartland Institute has been holding events, debates, and seminars on the hoax of global warming. The Heartland Institute has an entire section of its website dedicated to debunking global warming and it has produced books and pamphlets attacking the false “consensus” of man-made global warming. Without question, global warming (a quasi religious belief I personally call globabloney) has been a major focus at Heartland for a long time, to be sure.

That being understood — not only understood but glaringly obvious — leaked emails that purport to show that Heartland has a plan to influence lawmakers, scientists, members of the media, and even schools against global warming is a bit of a “well, duh!” Any ten seconds of time spent on the Institute’s website would tend to make it clear that they are against claims of man-made global warming. At some point, even if the documents were real it should not come as any sort of shocking revelation.

Obama Programming Media Matters, or is it the Other Way Around?

-By Warner Todd Huston

There has been a lot of chatter about the blockbuster report at DailyCaller.com revealing the extent to which the self-proclaimed “media watchdog” outfit Media Matters for America is joined at the hip with the White House. Many are shocked at just how much Obama is seemingly programming the media with the supposedly independent Media Matters acting as its pipeline to the Old Media.

Shockingly, DailyCaller notes that MMFA is even holding teleconference briefings with members of Obama’s administration and the subsequent salting of the results of those meetings among the Old Media’s coverage seems to be a weekly occurrence. If true this is in contravention to MMFA’s tax-exempt status, too.

The report points out that at least up until last fall, an Obama administration official participated in weekly strategy sessions to plan out what the Old Media should know about the Obama agenda. DailyCaller notes that Obama’s recently resigned com director Jen Psaki was “a frequent participant” on those strategy calls.

Obama Speech at National Prayer Breakfast: Insincere Theological Farce

-By Rev Michael Bresciani

Glancing down at his notes every few seconds Mr. Obama managed to get through what looked like the worst drudgery of his day at the National Prayer Breakfast.

Since 1953 the annual ‘National Prayer Breakfast’ has been held at the Hilton International Ballroom in Washington DC. It was begun by Christian conservatives but today is attended by over 3,000 people, all who are not conservative. The President is usually the main speaker followed by another prominent figure who is not announced until the day of the event.

There was a good helping of name dropping in which Obama said various ministers dropped by or phoned him at the White House. He specifically named Joel Hunter and T. D. Jakes. A fully emotionally embellished account of his visit with the Reverend Billy Graham was also added to the obviously perfunctory address. The subtle infusion of Obama’s politics and policy filled the air, and the speech, which the president could hardly disguise, was an attenuation of his usual political rhetoric.

Sarah Palin’s Main CPAC Speech Points: Did She Sell Out?

-By Warner Todd Huston

I am just now back home from CPAC and I thought I’d wrap up my CPAC reports with the main points from Sarah Palin’s CPAC speech. I will have video of a dozen or so GOP candidates for Senate and the House over the ensuing days as well as a short video interview with Daniel Hannan, the Member of European Parliament that made himself beloved to Americans for his impassioned speeches in favor of freedom and liberty.

Those videos will come later, but now, on to Sarah’s speech. As expected, Sarah Palin was met with the most adulatory applause of any CPAC speaker. When she came out onto the stage the house went wild. She had the longest sustained standing ovation of the entire event. Obviously, Sarah Palin is still a rock star to these conservatives.

I live tweeted her speech and following this introduction I’ll repost those live tweets here so that you can see her main points as she delivered them and as I tweeted them. But first my over all impressions.

Palin spent a lot of time smacking President Obama over the head with his smashing failures over the last three years. She made no effort to be coy about it but attacked him head on. As in all her speeches — and I’ve been in the audience for a few of them, myself — she made many allusions to the founders, citing them often. And she ended up with an urgent plea to those watching to fall in behind who ever becomes the GOP nominee “for the sake of our country.” This ending might have surprised, maybe even dismayed her more ideological fans because perhaps she just proved to be just another party woman instead of the ideologically pure representative they’d hoped for.

The Impassioned Message of Rick Santorum, Bella and the Unborn

-By Rev Michael Bresciani

This may be the most difficult time the nation has ever been through as we approach this critical election year. It is hard to say too much about Mitt Romney when it is well known that regardless of what he is, or is not, he is not Barack Obama. That alone counts for much, but not until he is the last man standing.

Many voters seem to see more when they see Santorum for a second and third time and listen to what he has to say. Sen. Santorum not only could surprise us and leap forward in the race for the nomination, but after taking a second look at this candidate anyone with a reasonable helping of understanding would see that he represents almost everything most conservative Americans want to see in our future as a nation.

Without adding to the redundant comparisons that already are everywhere in the public about Rick Santorum’s views and his record, but rather we could all take another look especially in the light of recent developments regarding the health of his beautiful daughter, Bella.

Bella has suffered with, Trisomy 18; a very rare disease which very few children survive. She recently contracted pneumonia in both lungs. The family was on watch for several days, but Bella pulled through in what her dad called a ‘miraculous recovery.’ The severe crisis was abated for the moment and following the good news, former Pennsylvania Sen. Santorum went back out on the campaign trail with renewed vigor and obvious relief.

CPAC Straw Poll: It’s Mitt!

-By Warner Todd Huston

3,408 CPAC attendees participated in this year’s straw poll, the poll’s second highest number of participants, and they picked Mitt Romney as their man.

With a pool of voters that said at 63% that slashing big government was a main concern for 2012, a 97% disapproval rating for President Obama, and even a 28% disapproval rate the job Republicans in Congress are doing, voters picked Romney over Santorum by only 7 percentage points.

  • Romney 38%
  • Santorum 31%
  • Newt 15%
  • Paul 12%

Paul dominated the CPAC polling over the last two years, but this year he placed a distant fourth place. Paul did not attend CPAC this year and his followers were absent as well. Unless a few of them were out protesting with the Occupiers, of course.

The CPAC poll has no official standing Party-wise, to be sure, but as ACU Chairman Al Cardenas notes it is a good barometer of a nice large slice of the conservative movement.

This result does show the surging Santorum candidacy, though. It is clear that Rick Santorum has at last gotten his chance to be the non-Romney candidate. I think if CPAC were to have been held three or four months ago, Rick would not have achieved this close finish with Romney here at this conservative gathering.

I must say, I had imagined that Mitt might lose to Santorum considering his surging poll numbers out and about in the rest of the country outside CPAC, but I also must say that Mitt’s speech was competent and free of any unforced errors, if you will.

So, there you have it. Mitt barely edges out Rick Santorum as king of CPAC.

CPAC Speeches: Contrasting Santorum, Gingrich, Romney

-By Warner Todd Huston

CPAC 2012 featured appearances by the three top GOP contenders who came to ask for the support of the conservatives gathered there. First came former Penn. Senator Rick Santorum, then Governor Mitt Romney, and finally former Speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gingrich, all came to sell their ideas and candidacy.

Rick Santorum

Santorum came out to the most applause of the three, for sure. As he and his family mounted the stage the crowd was obviously eager to hear what the candidate had to say.

“Conservatism did not fail this country,” began the meat of the former Pennsylvania Senator’s remarks, “conservatives failed conservatism.”

Santorum said that in the past we, “listened to the voices that said we had to abandon our principles and our values to get things done, to win.” But no more compromise, he said. “The lesson we’ve learned is that we will no longer abandon and apologize for the policies and principles that made this country great for a hollow victory in November.”

Santorum went on to say that Obamacare was a “game changer” and with it, as the British found with their system, we will never be free again. “It’s about government control of our lives and it’s gotta stop,” he asserted to great applause.
