Obama’s Political Action Group Loses Complaint Against Website Address Owner

-By Warner Todd Huston

Last year, President Obama’s re-election campaign reworked its operations renaming it Organizing for Action in an effort to leverage the President’s monumental email address list to urge supporters to back the President’s policies. But OFA made a tiny mistake: it didn’t register all the various website addresses for its new effort. Worse, when others jumped to register the names, Obama’s political group filed a complaint to get the web addresses back. Now Obama has lost that battle.

In February I reported that team Obama didn’t perform its due diligence and register all the website iterations as is normal business practice in today’s Internet centric world. As Obama’s OFA made its debut, no one in his purportedly Internet-savvy campaign had obtained the corresponding .com, .net, .org or .us sites, nor did OFA register other names that are close to its official one, as is the sensible practice.

In one case, Breitbart reported that Derek Bovard registered the website address www.organizingforaction.net and set it so that visitors would be re-directed automatically to the homepage of the National Rifle Association.

Fisker Motors Meltdown, Fires 80% of Staff

-By Warner Todd Huston

Fisker Automotive, Inc., the much-celebrated maker of luxury electric cars, has announced that it is firing 80% of its employees after failing to finalize an investment deal.

The manufacturer of the rechargeable Karma auto informed 160 workers of the layoffs coming to the Anaheim, California-based company. Fisker was said to have employed 200 before this week’s announcement.

This is only the latest blow to the “green” auto company. Only last month the company’s name-sake, Henrik Fisker, resigned over “unspecified” disagreements with other executives and the company stopped production of its cars after its lithium-ion battery supplier declared bankruptcy.

The battery company, A123 Systems Inc., declared bankruptcy in October of last year despite the millions in in tax dollars pumped into the company by President Obama.

According to Bloomberg, Fisker has retained the services of Kirkland & Ellis LLP to explore a restructuring of the company.

Prez Apologizes for Saying CA Attny Gen is Good-Looking While Michelle Said She’s a Single Mom?

-By Warner Todd Huston

What is going on in the President’s marriage? On one hand, President Obama raised a miniature firestorm Thursday, April 4, by being gauche enough to have called California Attorney General Kamala Harris the “best-looking attorney general” in the country. Of course, not long afterward, the President was forced to apologize for the “sexist” remark. And on the other his own wife is going around claiming she’s a “single mother.”

Obama made the comment at a luncheon event held at the home of Levi-Strauss heir John Goldman where he introduced AG Harris with a list of compliments before ending with “She also happens to be by far the best-looking attorney general in the country.”

As soon as the media reported the President’s comments the lefty outrage machine kicked into high gear. For one, Vanity Fair called Obama’s comments “Sexual Harris-ment?” And after others from the lefty blogosphere attacked the President, he sent out his spokesman, Press Secretary Jay Carney, to issue a hasty apology.

FAA to Delay Closure of 149 Air Traffic Control Towers Until June

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced it will delay the closing of 149 air traffic control towers until mid-June.

In March, the FAA announced it would close the 149 federal contract air traffic control towers as part of the agency’s $637 million budget cuts as required by sequestration.

The FAA changed the closure schedule to “allow the agency to attempt to resolve multiple legal challenges to the closure decisions” and to allow some 50 airports more time to assume funding of the towers themselves.

Peter Kirsch, a lawyer representing the affected airports, told USA Today that they are seeking a court order to block the closures and expect a ruling by April 12.

NY Mayor Bloomberg Blames State’s Mess on Gov. Cuomo

-By Warner Todd Huston

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is at it again, this time going off on Governor Cuomo and many other state legislators claiming they aren’t fit for any job in the private sector.

In a recent interview on a New York TV station, Bloomberg slammed the state’s legislators saying, “The average legislator who has to make policy on things that influence our lives, our kids’ lives, our future, would they ever get a job in the private sector making policy on big things? No, not a chance.”

Bloomberg also slammed Gov. Cuomo for his frequent practice of attaching a “message of necessity” to bills sent to the legislature. This practice forces quick votes on bills and prevents lawmakers from having enough time to fully consider them before being expected to cast a vote.

Barack Obama: The Best Lying Demagogue Ever to Infest the White House

-By Warner Todd Huston

As he disgustingly used law enforcement officials as a back drop in Colorado, President Obama uttered a few lines about his un-Constitutional gun grabbing policy ideas that truly proves he’s the best lying demagogue to ever sit in the Oval Office.

Obama had a message about elected officials, who they are, and what they want to do about Obama’s anti-Second Amendment crusade. But his phrasing of the subject is particularly interesting. He turned the truth on its head, made anyone that stands for the Second Amendment into a nut case, and dismissed any thought that government could be used as a tool of oppression despite the whole of human history proving him otherwise. And he wrapped up by hinting that anyone that stands against him wants more kids to die.

Here is what he said:

Now, notice the conceit, here. Obama is trying to ridicule anyone that supports the Second Amendment for its real, actual purpose–as a check on government oppression. He is trying to make it seem that Second Amendment supporters are nuts or even dangerous, but at the very least dismissible because they understand the true purpose of the Second Amendment.

Even Piers Morgan Criticizes Obama Over Lavish Vacation Spending

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Wednesday, April 3, President Obama announced he would be returning 5% of his paycheck to the federal treasury in a show of shared sacrifice with federal workers facing furloughs because of the sequester. The news came as he once again flew about the country pushing his anti-Second Amendment policies and only days after another lavish vacation indulged by the first family was in the news.

Morgan lambasted Obama’s attempt to spread the pain of austerity to his own household calling it a “pointless exercise” and despaired that the President wasn’t doing something more substantive.

Morgan railed saying, “if he gave up the vacations, which are costing the taxpayer hundreds of thousands of dollars, it might have more impact than five percent of $400,000.”

But even here Morgan soft-pedaled the money the American people have spent on Obama’s many vacations.

Foreign Policy Mag Maligns Ted Cruz as ‘Most Hated Man in the Senate’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Foreign Policy magazine has made the stark pronouncement about Texas Senator Ted Cruz. According to FP’s Erica Grieder, Cruz is “the most hated man in the U.S. Senate.”

In a March 29 piece, Grieder made this extreme pronouncement based on the new Senator’s outspoken positions on many issues as well as on how irksome he is to old guard Senators who imagine that first year colleagues should be seen and not heard.

Grieder starts her piece with several gratuitous insults. Right off she says that Cruz is “the human equivalent of one of those flower-squirters that clowns wear on their lapels.” She then calls his initiatives and ideas “non-sequiturs” and says they are “self-defeating.” This was all just the first paragraph.

Next we learn that Cruz has “irritated” Democrats like Dianne Feinstein and been a “headache for GOP leaders.” This all because he stands up strongly for his principles and the positions that got him elected.

Does this really make him “hated,” though? He may elicit distaste in these old guard Senators and in those Senators that stand squarely against his principles, but “hated”? That is quite a subjective assessment.

VP Biden Still Lobbying for Gun Control

-By Warner Todd Huston

Vice President Joe Biden is again plying the phones calling his former colleagues on Capitol Hill bending ears over the President’s gun control ideas. His calls are coming on a “near-daily basis” as Obama mounts another push for gun control.

Biden has held private meetings with Republican Senators such as John McCain (Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.) and, Johnny Isakson (Ga.), and will be haunting the offices of Capitol Hill in the days ahead.

It appears that President Obama is relying on Biden to leverage the relationships he had built when he was a long-serving Senator from Delaware to cajole Congress into acquiescing to new gun control laws.

“President Obama is the strategist and Vice President Biden is the tactician,” Democratic consultant Chris Kofinis told The Hill. “I think the president is laying out the frame, the message, the vision about where we need to go and why. The vice president understands how to make that happen. You have two interlocking pieces that work very well together.”

Republicans, however, scoff at the idea that Biden is an effective negotiator.

Eagle-Killing, Investment-Wasting ‘Renewable’ Energy

-By Warner Todd Huston

The “Green Energy” sector has been hit with a series of setbacks over the last few years. From a wind farm being cited for killing an endangered eagle, to solar energy’s tumble from investor favor over dismal performance, to a growing list of companies gone bankrupt even after President Obama pumped millions of our tax dollars into them, the so-called Green Energy sector has certainly seen better, more hopeful days.

In the realm of farce, a wind farm in Nevada finds itself at an unfortunate crossroads of political correctness. Even as the wind farm in White Pine County, Nevada is a favored “Green Energy” nirvana, the company that runs it is under threat of sanctions by the federal government. Why? Because a protected Golden Eagle flew into one of the farm’s turbines killing itself.

Now, San Francisco-based Pattern Energy is awaiting a decision from the feds on whether or not they will have to pay a $3,000 fine for killing the endangered bird.

But as the President might say, that is but “a bump in the road.” Worse than the death of a protected eagle, a recent analysis reveals that the bottom has fallen out of solar energy investments.

Politico Tries to Sink Another Perry Campaign

-By Warner Todd Huston

In a March 28 article, Politico made to report on the situation in Texas Governor Rick Perry’s inner circle but instead of a concise report this long and oddly repetitive piece was seemingly more interested in constantly reminding readers that the Governor didn’t fare too well in the 2012 Presidential election.

The quixotic piece by Politico’s Alexander Burns is ostensibly about a lightly manned Perry campaign staff. Many older Perry staffers, Burns reports, have now left the Governor’s employ and there seems to be some confusion as to public knowledge of who is doing what inside Perry’s organization.

But Burns’ motivation for the long piece is questionable. For one thing, he notes several times that Perry is in a “different” phase of his work as Governor in that being governor is his chief job at the moment. Therefore, future campaigns have taken a back seat to governing. This, of course, would be a good reason why Perry has thinned his campaign staff. He just doesn’t need an entire retinue of advisors and campaign staffers to do his job as Governor. In fact, this point seems to make much of Burns’ speculations rather moot, yet his reporting leads readers to imagine that Perry’s staffers are like rats leaving a sinking ship.

Dr. Ben Carson Bows to Pressure to Apologize for ‘Gay Remark’

-By Warner Todd Huston

In an appearance on MSNBC, Neurosurgeon Ben Carson bowed to pressure to apologize for remarks about traditional marriage he made early last week on the Sean Hannity show.

Appearing with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell on March 29, Carson tried to explain what he meant with his earlier comments about traditional marriage and made to walk back his thoughts on how marriage should be defined.

“I think in terms of what was said on Sean Hannity’s show, that was taken completely out of context and completely misunderstood in terms of what I was trying to say,” Dr. Carson said. “As a Christian, I have a duty to love all people and that includes people who have other sexual orientations, and I certainly do, and never had any intention of offending anyone… If anyone was offended, I apologize to you.”

Carson’s back tracking occurred after MSNBC and other left-wing pundits immediately attacked him for his Tuesday, March 26 appearance on Hannity..

Compared to his later MSNBC appearance, Carson was more definitive on Hannity’s show. “My thoughts are that marriage is between a man and a woman. It’s a well-established fundamental pillar of society and no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality, it doesn’t matter what they are, they don’t get to change the definition,” Carson said on Hannity’s broadcast.

Obama Operative Slams Pollster Over Obama’s Fallen Ratings

-By Warner Todd Huston

Recent Gallup polling has shown that the President’s popularity rating has taking a beating, but the results are being criticized by former Obama operative, David Plouffe, who alluded to the polling firm’s poor performance in last year’s elections.

Gallup has shown that President Obama’s three-day polling average has fallen below 50%, the lowest its been since his reelection. At the same time his disapproval rating has risen.

But in a March 27 Tweet, Plouffe slammed the results saying, “Never have so many been wrong by so much. But let’s still salivate over the latest Gallup numbers.”

During the 2012 election, Gallup’s results erred by badly projecting the electorate.

VIDEO: Basketball’s Magic Johnson: ‘Obamacare is Working’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Former NBA great Earvin “Magic” Johnson has seen Obamacare and has pronounced it good. According to Johnson, “a lot” of CEOs at hospitals have told him that Obamacare “is working.”

Johnson was invited on MSNBC to talk about the sport’s March Madness tournaments, but as the interview ended, he had an off topic and unsolicited assessment of Obamacare.

“Obamacare is working,” Johnson suddenly said. “I talk to a lot of CEOs of hospitals–it is working. And I’m glad Governor Scott down in Florida accepted Obamacare because it will work”

This is an interesting assessment seeing as how the President’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010–dubbed Obamacare–doesn’t really kick in fully until 2014. In fact, the current phase of the law, the Health Insurance Marketplace which was supposed to be ready by now, is being put off because of poor planning, confusion, and other problems among the various states.

Phyllis Schlafly On the GOP Establishment, Karl Rove, Mitt Romney and Other ‘Losers’

This year at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), I was fortunate enough to get some time to interview one of the most redoubtable conservative activists in the nation, Phyllis Schlafly. In this eighteen minute video you will encounter a woman that is extremely vital and at 89-years-of-age still sharp as a tack.

As is her wont, Schlafly eschewed kid gloves with her frank discussion of the GOP establishment and how those effete, east coast, country clubbers are at war with the conservative, Midwestern grassroots.

Take Schlafly’s description of “the establishment,” for instance:

As Local Police Beg for Ammo, Dept. of Homeland Security Orders 1.6 Billion Rounds

-By Warner Todd Huston

As local police departments across the country are beginning to find ammunition difficult to find, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has ordered up to 1.6 billion rounds for its more than 100,000 armed agents.

Rep. Timothy Huelskamp (R-Kansas) has been attempting to get DHS to explain why it is ordering so many rounds, but the Congressman has reported that the department has thus far refused to answer some key questions submitted by members of Congress.

In a news report, Police Chief Cameron Arthur of Jenks, Oklahoma says that his department and others are starting to have trouble getting rounds for their officers. Some departments are even starting to barter with each other to fulfill needs because suppliers cannot fill orders.

“Ammunition and assault weapons in general have skyrocketed. In the past, $3,000 would get us several rifles or a great deal of ammunition. But we have seen prices go up 30, 40, 50 percent. In addition… the time to get it could be six months to a year, or in some cases even longer,” Arthur said.

Despite Wide Appeal to Middle America, Jay Leno Out at ‘Tonight’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Despite solid ratings and wide appeal to middle America, NBC is poised to replace Jay Leno with Jimmy Fallon as the host of the Tonight Show as Leno’s contract nears its end.

Leno was off the show for six months between 2009 to 2010 when Conan O’Brien briefly hosted the Tonight Show, but as the news breaks that he’s to be replaced, this time by Fallon, some news outlets are calling Leno the “conservative’s” TV host.

Politico reported on March 22 that the “Right bemoans possible Jay Leno exit,” and asks, “Could Jay Leno become a new conservative hero?”

Faux Sequester: U.S. Dept. of Ed Offers New, Six-Figure Job

-By Warner Todd Huston

Even as the Department of Education prepares to make cuts to federally-funded schools on Native American reservations, DOE is also offering a new six-figure job to promote “Educational Excellence for African-Americans.” Worse, the job seems to be going to a an adviser to Democrat Representative Charlie Rangel.

Reports note that Native American schools in Minnesota are freezing salaries, leaving job openings unfilled, enlarging classroom sizes, and making other cost savings moves to satisfy demands being enforced by the Dept. of Education.

Among those cuts in Minnesota, the White Earth Reservation tribal school may cut the school year down to save money and Red Lake School District has cut security staff.

Minnesota’s Democrat Representative Betty McCollum is calling the cuts “indefensible.”

-By Warner Todd Huston

On March 15 the good folks of the National Bloggers Club hosted a private visit by Senator Rick Santorum at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

The subject of most of his comments as well as the questions asked centered around the new Pope and the Catholic Church. One of his replies was particularly interesting and it wasn’t just interesting because it was an answer to a question I asked the Senator myself.

I asked about how the media is and/or will treat the Catholic Church on the issue of “reform” as the new Pope takes charge of his world-wide flock. Santorum noted that the Church can’t change its spots just because the culture does. The Church is supposed to be teaching truth, not bending constantly to cultural changes.

These Senators Voted to Give Away Your Second Amendment Rights to the UN

-By Warner Todd Huston

Would you like to meet the Democrats that voted to destroy your Second Amendment rights? Would you like to meet those traitorous Senators that voted to give the power over your rights to the United Nations?

Fortunately, the odious, anti-American treaty was again voted down by the full Senate, but 46 Senators voted in favor of handing over our Constitutional rights to the UN.

Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) offered Amendment 139 that was passed with a 53 to 46 vote. His Amendment contained language to affirm that foreign treaties would not trump the U.S. Constitution.

“Mr. President,” Inhofe said on the floor of the Senate, “I want to make sure that everyone understands what the United Nations trade treaty is. The trade treaty is a treaty that cedes our authority to have trade agreements with our allies in terms of trading arms.”

Feds Waste $3.8 Million to ‘Decrease Human-Elephant Conflict’

-By Warner Todd Huston

The federal government is looking into the serious issue of the “conflict” between humans and elephants. To help out on that important issue, the government generously gave $3.8 million of your tax dollars to study the matter.

The princely sum was awarded in 2011 and 2012 for the African Elephant Conservation grant and was sent to “any African government agency responsible for African elephant conservation and protection and any other organization or individual with demonstrated experience in African elephant conservation.”

Despite the millions offered, the federal government assured our African partners that no documentation or credentials were required to apply for the grant.

As CNSNews reports, the grant objectives were “to provide financial assistance to support projects that will enhance sustainable conservation programs to ensure effective, long-term conservation of African elephants.”

More is coming for 2013, despite the sequester that the President said would shut down the government.

Sen. Schumer Quietly Adds Extreme Measures to Gun Sellers Bill

-By Warner Todd Huston

Senator Chuck Schumer (D, NY) has quietly added a slew of new measures to his self-sponsored gun control bill currently making its way through the Senate.

Schumer has been battling to get his Protecting Responsible Gun Sellers Act of 2013 (S 374)–now to be called the Fix Gun Checks Act of 2013–passed into law, but one of the early problems with the bill was that it was essentially a shell or placeholder bill–a bill not completely written at the time of introduction.

Ostensibly, Schumer’s bill is meant to change current laws to require that all firearms sales initiate a background check on the buyer before the sale is legal. Currently, private, non-gun merchant citizens are exempt from performing background checks when they sell guns to other private citizens.

CPAC 2013: OK, Can We Just Be Done With Donald Trump Now?

-By Warner Todd Huston

I was at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland this year but I was not yet at the event on Thursday morning, so I missed The Donald’s speech. I watched the video later because I heard a lot of people wondering what the heck this guy was talking about. And after seeing the video, I have to say this: can we finally be done with Donald Trump in GOP politics, now?

Trump started out his speech talking about how the country was in trouble. Not a big newsflash, that. He also noted that the GOP was in serious trouble. Another newsflash. But then came a slap in the face. Here he was at a conservative gathering and what was the third point he made?

“The Republican Party, I can almost want to say it’s going to be a little bit tough and especially as you get more and more conservative. They get nasty. They don’t like to hear what we have to say.”

Um… what?

Reuters Regurgitates Democrat Talking Points on Budget Plan

-By Warner Todd Huston

On March 12, Representative Paul Ryan (R, WI) released the GOP’s budget proposal sparking an afternoon of analysis and criticism. By Tuesday evening Reuters was contrasting Ryan’s budget with one sponsored by Senator Patty Murray (D, WA). But there is one problem with Reuters’ analysis. The Democrats didn’t actually release any budget for Reuters to analyze at the time of publication. So, Reuters simply regurgitated Murray’s talking points.

In the Reuters report, the pair of budgets were deemed difficult to pass because they appear “crafted to appeal to their respective party bases.”

Reuters claimed that the problem with Ryan’s budget is that it is likely aimed at getting Rep. Ryan the 2016 GOP Presidential nomination as opposed to being a serious attempt to solve Washington’s budget problems.

CPAC 2013: Mitt Romney Speaks

-By Warner Todd Huston

Apologizing for not winning the last election, a chastened and humbled Mitt Romney came before the crowd at CPAC here today vowing to be a “coworker” with conservatives to get the country back on the right track.

Romney entered the stage to loud applause, some of the loudest for the day. His appearance certainly seemed to find approval with this crowd.

His speech was very good. One wag noted that he may be the most inspiring loser ever.

The former GOP nominee for President spoke all in big terms today, not much getting down in the weeds of specific programs. He was stopped occasionally by respectful and sometimes enthusiastic applause. He ended to a standing ovation, as well.

One thing is sure, the crowds at CPAC are mainstream Republicans as opposed to strictly hard right conservatives. If this crowd were more hardcore a moderate like Mitt Romney would never have been received, nominee or no, as well as he has been here in the last three years.
