ABC: Scaring Parents About Kid’s Friend’s Gun Owning Parents

-By Warner Todd Huston

Wait a minute Mom. Don’t let little Johnny go to his buddy Tommy’s house. Tommy’s parents are psychos that own — **gasp** — GUNS! This is the message that ABC is telling parents in an April 10 piece headlined, “Before Arranging Playdates, Ask About Guns.”

Here ABC attempts to make every gun owner seem like a lunatic just ready to blow and encourages parents to be deathly afraid of anyone that owns a gun. It encourages parents to pry into the lives of family members of their kid’s friends and bases it all on the lies passed off as scary gun violence statistics.

Naturally, ABC’s back up for this anti-gun screed is by a supposedly “non partisan” anti-gun group called PAX USA, an organization with board and advisory councils filled with left-wing Hollywood actors such as Richard Belzer, Tim Robbins, and Rob Reiner among many others.

Detroit Free Press: Know What we Need? Reparations for Gays

-By Warner Todd Huston

Our friend from Detroit, Jacob Appel, thinks that gays need government reparations and the Detroit Free Press was so enamored of his idea that it published his plea in its April 7 issue. One has a suspicion that they missed a deadline because this story would have more properly been published on April 1, a day well known as April Fool’s Day. This one simply must be a joke.

Appel is so filled with absurd pronouncements, anti-hetero bias, and outright hatred in his piece that one simply cannot take his central thesis seriously. But his mode of thinking here does highlight the illogic of his position on the issue, so it is instructive to review it.

Appel begins with a heresy that I think should make black Americans infuriated when he lumps the history of homosexuals in America with that of black American’s oppression during slavery. He feels that one day the “struggle” of gays in America will be seen as “unspeakable and inexplicable to my grandchildren as counting a slave as three-fifths of a human being.”

Woody Harrelson: Zombie Fighter Extraordinaire

-By Warner Todd Huston

Personally, I am thankful to providence for bestowing Woody Harrelson, zombie fighter, unto this earth to defend us all from those wayward and dangerous zombie paparazzi. Why, we’d be overrun with the shuffling menaces were it not for the brave and selfless actions of Woody Harrelson, zombie fighter!

It is my pleasure to recount Captain Zombie Killer’s latest epic struggle with the flesh eating, undead from last week. It seems that a zombie paparazzi was about to attack an entire airport full of innocent folks until Captain Zombie Killer stepped in to save us yet again.

Of course, there was a tiny misunderstanding this time. Unlike all those other times that he saved us from the zombie menace, this time the good Captain only ended up roughing up a photographer. I mean, come on. With all his experience at zombie-i-cide, it’s easy to realize how he “quite understandably mistook” the photographer “for a zombie.” Right?

Notre Dame’s Betrayal of Faith

-By Selwyn Duke

When John the Baptist said to King Herod, “It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife,” the price he paid was his head on a platter. He had spoken Absolute Truth to power in a time when power was absolute. It was the bravest of acts, the kind only undertaken by those very rare men for all seasons.

Lying in stark contrast to this is catholic (note the small “c”) Notre Dame University’s genuflection before Barack Obama, a man embodying the very antithesis of Catholic teaching. As most are aware, the university extended an invitation to Obama to deliver a commencement address and, to make matters worse, will bestow upon him an honorary doctorate.

Obama’s Intel Services More Worried About Right-Wing Terror Than Islamists?

-By Warner Todd Huston

On the heels of the odious report by the State of Missouri, recently retracted, focusing on so-called “right-wing terrorism” and implying that every right of center group in American politics is an inch away from being terrorists, now we have a federal agency report doing the same thing.

The Department of Homeland Security has also created a secret report that wasn’t supposed to be made public but has leaked out nonetheless. In it we see the same outrageous conclusions that “right-wing terrorists” are a danger in this country. (Download PDF file)

We all Need to Sacrifice in These Hard Times…

Sacrifice? Heck wid dat. YOU sacrifice! I needs me some PIZZA!

As the First Lady pretends at planting a garden to show “sacrifice” and “thrift” to America, hubby Barack is paying out thousands from our treasury to fly pizza makers from St. Louis to Washington for a pizza party.

I guess “sacrifice” means different things to different people.

AP:’Mad as Hell’ About Bloggers, Google, Aggregators

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Chairman of the Associated Press had some sharp words for those darned ol’ Internet interlopers out there. He said he’s “mad as hell” over those who “walk off with our work.” Though Chairman Dean Singleton didn’t exactly specify who he was talking about, according to Politico, the wire agency has been targeting Google, Bloggers and news aggregator sites such as Huffington Post of late.

So, what does it mean? How far will the AP go to protect its work? Are there court cases soon to be seen?

Defining Article 2, Section 1 in Context

-By Nancy Salvato

According to Article II, Section 1 of the United States Constitution, no person except a “natural born citizen” (citizen at birth) shall be eligible to the office of President.

The question that needs to be answered definitively is what exactly is a “natural born citizen”? To understand this phrase, we need to look at the context in which it was written.

It is clear that the Framers included that phrase in the requirements for Commander in Chief because they wanted to ensure loyalty to the US Constitution and not give undue influence to any one country, group, or person.

Obama: Schlepping around to find a church to celebrate Easter

-By Marie Jon’

At the time of our founding, most Americans were avowed Christians. Those devout believers would be shocked to see modern revisionists claim otherwise, and they would especially be shocked at the degree to which non-believing atheists have taken control of our country’s courts, legislative halls, and educational institutions.

Barack Hussein Obama belittles the faith of our founders and America’s vast Christian heritage. Delivering a recent speech in Turkey, Obama exposed his disdain for biblical Christianity, leaving many Americans wondering what is happening to the United States.

Bowing to Kings, Bowed By Pirates, Obama Shows His Weakness

-By Warner Todd Huston

As Obama bows in supplication before a Saudi King then tries to spin his way out of his own actions, America is being humiliated by whelps at sea. He was just leaning, we’re told, not bowing. It was because the Saudi King is short or so goes the White House spin. But the Queen of England is even shorter than the Saudi King and there was no royal navel gazing from Obama in England! Obama failed that test, indeed.

To be sure, Barack Obama is being tested just like Joe Biden said he would. But those testing him are not the sort of big state actors that Biden imagined would task the new president. They are low-tech, low-rent, unorganized pirates, not heads of state of great and dangerous nations. And this fact, that it is mere pirates testing him, is an even bigger slap in the face than it would be if it were a powerful nation or two testing President Obama.

And worse, these skinny, underfed, unorganized and ill-equipped pirates are making a fool of what is ostensibly the most powerful man in the world. And it is about to get worse if Obama allows the U.S. Navy to stand idly by as more pirates come to the scene of the standoff to float in solidarity with the four fellows holding captain Philips in that disabled power boat.

The Two-Faced Brutality of Hope & Change

-By Frank Salvato

As the leaders of the G20 assembled in London to discuss the economic woes of the world, so too came the dregs of the Earth. Under the ruse of assembling as tolerant, engaged and caring members of society – activists concerned with war, the environment and the economic crisis – anti-war activists, eco-zealots, anti-Capitalists and anarchists descended on the city by the Thames causing havoc, damaging property and, in one specific instance, interfering with life-saving emergency treatment of one of their own. Interestingly, these are the same throngs of adoring “citizens of the world” that greeted Mr. Obama when he went on his campaign swing through Europe; the same assemblage of inhumanity that then candidate Barack Obama embraced as the “future.”

Across the pond, leaders of ACORN were defending themselves against charges of corruption leveled against them in House Judiciary Committee testimony from a whistleblower, Anita Moncrief – a registered Democrat and former employee of ACORN. Ms. Moncrief accused ACORN and Project Vote of colluding with the Obama campaign to coordinate fundraising and get-out-the-vote efforts. While ACORN has attempted to paint the whistleblower as a disgruntled ex-employee, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) was so taken with Ms. Moncrief’s testimony that he called for a full congressional investigation into the charges. Additionally, it is now being reported that the New York Times spiked a pre-election story on this very issue because its editorial board called the revelation “a game changer,” with regard to Mr. Obama’s chances of attaining the presidency. It can be successfully argued that both ACORN and The New York Times were staunchly in Mr. Obama’s corner during the 2008 election.

Skype’s Anti-competitive Uneconomics

-By Scott Cleland

There are two primary problems with eBay-Skype’s attempt to get the Government to force competitive wireless providers to carry Skype’s free communications app under the guise of wireless net neutrality and Internet openness: first, it is wildly uneconomic, and second, it is anti-competitive.

The issue has surfaced in the news (USAToday, WSJ) as Apple enabled a Skype app on the iPhone for use on free public WiFi networks, but not on the iphone’s commercial network provided by AT&T; and again when Google’s Android banned a tethering app because it violated T-Mobile’s terms of service as reported by CNET.

USA Today Writes Pseudo History of ‘Transformational’ Obama as ‘Global President’

-By Warner Todd Huston

USA Today’s Chuck Raasch has decided that President Obama is a “transformational American leader abroad” and that his America Stinks tour of Europe is a “confirming stamp of that new reality.” This effluvia of over indulgent praise heaped on Obama is ubiquitous in the media, we all know, but what makes Raasch’s piece egregious is the assumption of historical “truth” that posits that Obama has already succeeded as president even though he’s only been in office a few short months. Raash states as fact that Obama has “transformed” America’s image with this one tour and that all sorts of new and better relations have followed.

But, the main problem with Raasch’s sycophancy is that “followed” hasn’t even arrived yet. In fact, Raasch writes this article before Obama’s trip abroad is fairly done. It is idiotic to say what “has” come of it all before the president has even set his feet back on American soil. And this is a key problem with all these fake assessments of the “success” of Obama’s presidency. There hasn’t BEEN any “success” because history has yet to see the outcome of anything he’s done thus far.

Union Thugs Admit Workers Hate Them, Only Government Force Expands Unions

-By Warner Todd Huston

Herold Meyerson of the Washington Post is a not a very good columnist. But he is a great ad copy writer that should be working on Madison Avenue. Oh, I won’t say that all ad copy is filled with lies, but if lies sell then Meyerson would be the best of them all. Anyone that reads his April 7 pro-union column can only come away marveling at the malarkey this guy is peddling to sell the union cause.

Meyerson begins by lamenting the troubles that unions have seen over the last few decades. Union membership has dropped to all time lows in this country and Meyerson is all about the wearing of sackcloth and the gnashing of teeth over it. But he sees hope in a recent effort to gather several union chiefs together in a sort of cooperative effort to flog unions on Capitol Hill, a sort of uber lobbying organization that will be charged with strong-arming Congress to accede to union demands.

But one thing he doesn’t get is that Americans just don’t like unions. They have bad reputations as economy wreckers, thugs, and thieves. It’s obvious that this is the case because, after all, union membership has fallen through the floor.

Warning: NEVER Sell a Dog to a Democrat, Especially if it’s Joe Biden

-By Warner Todd Huston

Free national advertising. It’s a thing that most business people hope for in their dearest dreams. What could be better than a national spotlight on your business without having to spend money on advertising? Well, dog breeder Linda Brown found out what could make that dream worse: Democrats.

In December of 2008, Brown felt what she thought was the “honor” of being picked by Vice President elect Joe Biden as his source for a new German Shepherd puppy. “Out of millions of breeders in the country, in the world, he picked me,” she gushed… at first.

Then came the death threats from wild-eyed PETA members, Internet rumor mill attacks, and the constant harassment by state inspectors.

That “honor” quickly devolved into horror.

Olbermann to Become TV Character? Thought He Already WAS?

-By Warner Todd Huston

In a case of entertainment imitating entertainment, Arron Sorkin — maker of the faux president series West Wing — has hinted that he is soon to start development of another one of those behind-the-scenes TV shows, this one to be the goings on with a TV pundit show ala Keith Olbermann’s Count Down spectacle on MSNBC. So says Entertainment Weekly this week at least.

So, what are we going to be subjected to? Another ponderous show where a lefty bleeding-heart host that is soooo “concerned” with the whole wide world? A salute to the “seriousness” of an Olbermann type? Or are we going to see the tale of a nearly insane, egomaniacal freak that terrorizes everyone with whom he works? If they are going for fantasy probably the former. Reality… who knows?

The mind reels. Obama, and by extension, his Cabinet and political appointees, is just one unmitigated disaster after another. From instituting socialist engineering, appointing tax cheats to high positions, to the thuggish take-over of our auto industry, Barack Obama and his socialist henchmen, are running amok in this country merrily ripping, tearing and shredding our Constitution as they go along.

CBS Says Palin Popular ‘Despite Latest News,’ But Not One Substantive Issue Discussed

-By Warner Todd Huston

This is just the sort of bias against Sarah Palin and her family that is de rigeur in the Old Media. CBS seemed taken aback in an April 6 report that Governor Sarah Palin could possibly still be relatively popular “despite the negative news” that she has been confronted with of late. But all the “negative news” that CBS is so sure should torpedo Palin is little else but the soap opera of family struggles, none of it is based on any substantive issue that is a result of her actual efforts in office. It appears as if CBS wants to see Palin destroyed because some of her extended family have seen troubled times of late and not on the actual work she’s done as governor.

Is CBS really that empty of substance that they’d ignore the real and important issues of Palin’s governing and focus only on Bristol boyfriend Levi’s snotty appearance on some meaningless TV gossip show as a way to rate the governor’s work as chief executive of the state of Alaska? Can they not separate the actual work of a governor from the side-show of her family?

Or more to the point, would they rather not so separate the family from the job?

What are we if NOT a Christian Nation?

-By Warner Todd Huston

As President Obama engaged in his “America Stinks” tour of Europe this week he told audiences in Turkey that the U.S. is not a Christian nation. “We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation,” he said on April 6. This echoes his statement in 2007 when Obama told CBN, “whatever we once were, we’re no longer just a Christian nation.”

The subtle difference between those two statements just over a year apart is interesting. Candidate Obama seemed to admit that we might have “once” been a Christian nation but are no longer “just” a Christian nation. But, suddenly as president, he seems to be saying squarely that we “don’t” consider ourselves Christian. Interesting that he seemed to feel obligated to mitigate as a candidate his now openly admitted belief that we just aren’t a Christian nation.

In any case, it is obvious that this is Obama’s way of ingratiating himself with Muslim audiences. But whatever his immediate goal, his sentiment is a popular one with Americans that sport left-wing, anti-religious ideology, people who look to Obama as their leader.

But is he right? Is it true that we aren’t a Christian nation? Did the Founding Fathers choose the Christian ethic as the one upon which they based this country, or not? The answer would appear to be an emphatic yes once the historical record is reviewed. It would also appear that we are straying far afield from that grounding.

Out of Georgia comes a heart warmer about the Boy Scouts for a change. Instead of radical gays attacking this noble organization, instead of extremist left-wing politicians trying to make a name for themselves by attacking one of America’s finest youth organizations, we have a story that makes you smile. And you can bet it won’t make national news.

Rodrigo and Rosa Cano moved to the United States in 1980. A decade or so later Rosa gave birth to David who the proud parents enrolled in a local Boy Scouts troop when he reached his tenth year. They hoped that young David could further help them assimilate in their new home as young David brought home his Scouting experiences.

AP Looking to Stop Unauthorized Internet Usage?

-By Warner Todd Huston

When you visit a blog and read a report taking the Associated Press to task for its continuous leftward bias, are you reading “stolen” AP content, or are you reading legitimate news? Is criticism of AP’s work fair use? What is “fair use,” anyway? Could the AP sue critics?

These questions might be on the AP’s radar if a recent report in The New York Times is any indication. AP is attempting to create new policies to govern who uses AP content and where it is used. The APs attention to these issues could have long range impact on blogs and newsfeeds on the Internet.

Thus far, the actual policies and goals for how the AP will tackle this aspect of its business have not been determined. Are they going to take on the definition of “fair use” to court? Is the AP going to go after any particular agency or news site for what it considers unauthorized use?

ACORN/NY Times/Obama Campaign Story: Some Details Not as Reported

-By Warner Todd Huston

My exclusive interview with ACORN whistleblower Anita MonCrief

On April 4 I wrote about the testimony of Heather Heidelbaugh who appeared before Congress to speak about the various shady, if not criminal, actions perpetrated by ACORN (the Association of Community Activists for Reform Now) and its Project Vote offshoot over the last few years — and especially during the late campaign for the White House. There was vote fraud and financial misdealings galore and it was all perpetrated by a group intimately tied to presidential candidate Barack Obama. Not only that, but it seemed the Old Media was trying to cover it up.

That testimony has been the talk of the country since the end of March. But, as the story has progressed, some of the details that have been accepted as fact have turned out not to be true. It’s high time some of these misconceptions be cleared up.

There are fallacies about this case both big and small knocking about the pundocracy. TV pundit Bill O’Reilly, for instance, recently wrote an Op Ed with the misinformation that ACORN whistleblower Anita Moncreif had testified before Congress. MonCrief, however, did not testify before Congress (her information had merely been read into the record by Heidelbaugh).

CNN: Obama Advisor Attacks Cheney: Not a ‘Statesman’ (But Seems to Forget Al Gore’s Attacks on Bush)

It is always interesting to see the Democratic pot calling the Republican kettle black and here we have only the latest example of that with Obama’s top advisor attacking former Vice President Dick Cheney for his outspoken position on the failures of the Obama administration’s early efforts in office. But, even as advisor David Axelrod was attacking Cheney, there didn’t seem to be any memory on the part of CNN or Axelrod of the wild-eyed, fire-breathing attacks made by former Vice President Al Gore on President George W. Bush in the years after the 2000 election.

On CNN’s State of the Union with host John King, David Axelrod scolded Dick Cheney for not behaving like a “statesman” over the former vp’s statements that the country is becoming less safe because of Obama’s policies.

The AP Thinks Palin Teen’s Romance Woes is News?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Is it some sort of amazing, newsworthy revelation that teen romance is sometimes a rocky road? Is it news that family can be troublesome when it results in out-of-wedlock birth? The Associated Press seems to think it is, at least if one of those teens is Governor Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol.

Do you care that punk Levi Johnston is bawling to the press that Governor Palin is supposedly a controlling Grandmother? Especially in light of the fact that this kid is an uneducated, immature, unserious lout? Well, if YOU don’t the AP sure as heck does.

This time we have punk Johnston whining that Grandma Palin is a bit cross with him and closely watches him when he is with the baby. All I can say is, can you blame her? I wouldn’t think much of a grandmother that let’s a jobless, high school dropout have unsupervised visits with a child he casually fathered without regard for his girlfriend’s future or family. Would you?

But, on the other hand. I just can’t find a reason to care about Levi OR Bristol.

CAGW’s 2008 Pig Book Released!

-By Warner Todd Huston

Citizens Against Government Waste is announcing the release of the 2008 Pig Book.

The Congressional Pig Book (download in pdf format) is CAGW’s annual compilation of the pork-barrel projects in the federal budget. The 2008 Pig Book identified 11,610 projects at a cost of $17.2 billion in the 12 Appropriations Acts for fiscal 2008. A “pork” project is a line-item in an appropriations bill that designates tax dollars for a specific purpose in circumvention of established budgetary procedures. To qualify as pork, a project must meet one of seven criteria that were developed in 1991 by CAGW and the Congressional Porkbusters Coalition.

The latest installment of Citizens Against Government Waste’s (CAGW) 18-year exposé of pork-barrel spending includes $3,000,000 for The First Tee; $1,950,000 for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service; and $188,000 for the Lobster Institute in Maine.

In fiscal year 2008, Congress stuffed 11,610 projects (the second highest total ever) into the 12 appropriations bills worth $17.2 billion. The 11,610 projects represent a 337 percent increase over the 2,658 projects in fiscal year 2007. The $17.2 billion is a 30 percent increase over the fiscal year 2007 total of $13.2 billion. Only the Defense and Homeland Security bills included earmarks in fiscal year 2007, so comparisons of other bills are made between fiscal years 2008 and 2006. Total pork identified by CAGW since 1991 adds up to $271 billion.

Visit the CAGW site to read a longer summary of the wasteful, pork spending perpetrated by Congress in 2008.

Paper Tigers

-By Dan Scott

The world can be a dangerous place and even more so when we fail to understand the motivations of the various actors on the world stage. Recently, North Korea (DPRK) has provoked the world yet again with the launching of another alleged missile over Japan. For well over a month there was an uproar over the impending launch with warnings and counter warnings. The US threatened to shoot the missile down and the DPRK said shooting their satellite down would be an act of war thus the line was drawn in the sand, each side daring and doubling daring each other. The DPRK claims it was a satellite and most of the world says it was a missile. The DPRK launches and says the satellite is harmlessly orbiting the earth broadcasting patriotic songs but the US says it shot the third stage down. So whose truth (sarcasm intended) do we believe? I guess that depends on the most probable believable story. The US has already demonstrated it can either shoot down a missile in flight or a satellite in orbit. Given the anti-war stances of President Obama, would he risk war with the DPRK in shooting down a missile? Given the Dear Leader’s cushy little spot in power would he risk finding himself in the same position as Saddam Hussein??? The Dear Leader is no slouch in world affairs, after all he got Madeline Albright to play basketball! Maybe the most believable story is the dummy load fell into the Pacific Ocean instead of achieving orbit and Obama never gave the order to shoot down the alleged missile. So both the Dear Leader and President Obama claim victory and war was averted, works for both of them doesn’t it?

For those who don’t know the Dear Leader, I am speaking of Kim Jong-IL, the dictator of North Korea. Under his and his father’s rule, the people of North Korea have been reduced to abject poverty to the point even the city lights at night don’t up on satellite pictures save for his capitol Pyungyang. He is known to his people as the “Dear Leader”. His activities include: the production and distribution of narcotics as well as the counterfeiting of foreign currencies, cigarettes, and pharmaceuticals. To give you the full understanding of this man’s idea of truth, North Korea is formally known as the DPRK – Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea.

NYT Columnist: ‘Dark and Dangerous’ Conservatives Attack Obama (Did He Miss BDS for Last 8 Yrs?)

-By Warner Todd Huston

Sometimes you just have to laugh at the Pauline Kael-like left. It seems that leftists in America are either mentally stunted or living in such an enclosed, bubble-world that they cannot discern reality from their own fantasy. Such is the case with the faux shock expressed by one Chuck Blow (presumably his real name) from The New York Times whose latest article is filled with the horror that some on the American right might not wish much success for a president of the United States. One must laugh at this man’s alarm and wonder if he missed the last eight years where Bush, Cheney — and at the end, even today, Palin — were hung in effigy, where the past president was wished a long and torturous death, and where the left wanted untold horrors visited upon them and all Americans that support Republicans?

Charles’ sudden awakening to the passion that politics brings is amusing if only to the extent that it is so empty of any introspection. It is hilarious that Chuck only just now had his eyes opened to enflamed political rhetoric and talk of the grave concerns for this country by many millions of his fellow Americans. Sad, in the end, that this guy thinks such vitriol has only just now come from the American right as if born fully grown and never-before-seen.

Chuck must surely have been in a coma since the year 1999.

Muslims Try to Shut Down Property Rights of Tennessee Neighbor

-By Warner Todd Huston

Trevor Hill owns what was once a blighted, rundown building in Knoxville, Tennessee. Hill has upgraded and repaired the building and built a restaurant there that he’s christened The Hill restaurant. It’s a full service restaurant and that means it is to serve alcohol. And that last fact seems to be causing a conflict with the folks that own the neighboring building: the Anoor mosque.

Apparently one of the mosque board members, Nadeem Sidiqqi, is upset that an American property owner could possibly serve alcohol in his own business. Sidiqqi thinks he should be able to tell the owner of The Hill restaurant that he shouldn’t be allowed to serve alcohol so close to his mosque. He thinks that the city should invent a law that would mandate a “buffer zone” so that his religious tenets can be enforced on his neighbors. Sidiqqi wants to prevent neighboring property owners from doing as they wish with their own property.

So, is this America or Saudi Arabia?
