Recently on CBS, Bob Schieffer generously bestowed a Harvard degree on actor Ben Afflack — a degree in Middle Eastern Studies, no less. This would be a surprise to Mr. Affleck because the actor only attend a little college, never got a degree, and certainly never attended Harvard.
During a tease spot on Thursday, Schieffer told Norah O’Donnell how “serious” Afflack was and then ballyhooed about his “Harvard degree.”
He was here to talk about, he has this organization called Eastern Congo Initiative where he’s tried to do something. He appeared yesterday before the House Armed Services Committee to talk about some way to make things better over there… He’s a very committed – a very serious person. You know, he went to Harvard and majored in Middle Eastern studies.
Apparently all one needs do to be considered a “serious person” is to appear in a movie about something.
Still, this “degree” does not exist. Ben Affleck never got a degree in any Middle Eastern anything. He didn’t go to Harvard, either. He did briefly attend the University of Vermont and he played around with a few classes at Occidental College in L.A. when he moved west to become an actor. But he never graduated and got a degree from these institutions.

On Monday, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley announced that she was appointing U.S. Congressman Tim Scott to the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Jim DeMint. When he is sworn in on January 3, Scott will be the lone African American of either party in the Senate but this historic news didn’t seem to interest ABC or CBS as neither mentioned the news that night.
On November 16, CBS News aired a segment full of praise for President Obama’s visit to Staten Island in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. But this positive spin is in stark contrast to the scolding the network gave President Bush when he visited the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005..
Sadly, the debut of Director Steven Spielberg’s epic film about our 16th President is being used by many Old Media outlets as propaganda to push the concept that Barack Obama is in the same league or, worse, is somehow just like Abraham Lincoln. On November 15 it was CBS This Morning’s turn to couple one of our most famous presidents to the current resident of the White House.
TV’s The Good Wife, an episodic drama on CBS, wears its left-wing politics on its sleeve and this week’s episode was no exception as a TV courtroom judge was depicted pushing global warming from the bench. This isn’t the first time as the same character has in the past pushed anti-conservative themes.
In chronicling the left-wing drum beat viewers are constantly subjected to by the entertainment industry we often find TV episodes that are stuffed full of anti-conservative messages and with this week’s NCIS: Los Angeles we were treated to one of the most blatant examples that has hit the airwaves in quite sometime.
Fox News Channel won the race during the vice presidential debate this week; the ratings race. Fox brought in more than twice as many viewers as MSNBC and CNN… combined. Not only that, but Fox even drew more viewers than each of the big three networks individually.
Last month, broadcast TV lifer Morely Safer of CBS’s 60 Minutes fame appeared on CSPAN and pronounced himself “appalled” by the denizens of the new media.
Every once in a while the Old Media takes a jab at their most favorite president of all time and Obama’s decision to skip any meetings with the world leaders that are gathering at the UN this week seems to be one of those times.
For two straight days, now, neither ABC, CBS, nor NBC have bothered to mention the roiling controversy over the lie-filled ad that Obama’s Super PAC put out intimating that Mitt Romney killed a steel worker’s wife. The ad is being called the nastiest, most misleading ad of this election cycle by newspapers, talk radio and even the cable news stations — CNN and MSNBC both, yet — but thus far the big three are ignoring the whole story.
In a piece on “lies” in campaign advertising, on the July 30
Much as we on the right like to carp about how sold-out the Old Media is to Obama’s reelection effort and how the media establishment is loathe to say anything negative about Obama, sometimes it does publish a piece that raises troubling concerns for the President.
Strangely enough it took four to five long days for CNN and the big three networks to notice that Obama told his audience at a Virginia campaign rally that business owners and other successful Americans aren’t responsible for their own success. Worse, it took advisors for Mitt Romney to comment before these news organizations deigned to report on the incident.
From the mouth of Jimmy Kimmel, the late night comedian that said it was impossible to make fun of President Obama because he was too “cool,” comes the hilarity that Sarah Palin is a “crazy moose lady.” This was so hilarious that CBS This Morning had to replay it hours later on its morning show.
In a report on the recent FCC rules tightening requirements for telemarketers, CBS Radio couldn’t resist loosening a shot at Sarah Palin even though she has been out of office for several years already and has taken no part in political robocalls for some time. (Listen to audio
If you want a case of clear bias, the Washington D.C. affiliate of CBS will surely fill the bill for its bias against pro-life supporters. On January 23 the DC affiliate featured on its website a
Apparently it is not morning in America for CBS. The big network roll out of its revamped morning show, CBS This Morning, is struggling to gain a foothold. It’s so bad that even the Fox News’ morning show, Fox and Friends, is beating the network morning extravaganza. In Chicago, Fox and Friends even beat the debut episode of CBS This Morning despite the fact that Gayle King, a long-time Oprah confidante, was one of the main features of the program.
The latest issue of Capitol File magazine has a glowing feature on CBS News Chief White House Correspondent Norah O’Donnell. In it she claims that past journalists that have filled the role of chief White House correspondent for a major network have been “legendary” and “the very best” in the field. Of this “very best” she laughably elevates discredited CBS News anchor Dan Rather into that pantheon.
In a blow to the autonomy of the media it has been discovered that employees of two Old Media outlets are the happy beneficiaries of hundreds of thousands of federal dollars from an Obamacare slush fund. CBS and the Washington Post have both taken large payments from Obama’s Early Retiree Reinsurance Program (ERRP), with the Post getting $573,217 while CBS has received a whopping $722,388.
