Frmr Congressman Walsh: Illinois GOP Delegation Wants me to Stay Out of Washington

-By Warner Todd Huston

Joe Walsh was, to say the least, a firebrand as the Congressman for the Illinois 8th District during his one term in Congress. He lost his re-election bid in the 2012 cycle, but while he was out there in D.C. he was always in the news for one thing or another that he said or did. Apparently he was such a firebrand that all our current GOP Congressmen have told Joe not to run for Congress again!

Walsh appeared at an event in Wauconda, Illinois on Sunday, July 28, and told the crowd that he’s poked around with his former colleagues as to whether or not they’d support him for another run for Congress if he should decide to try.

Joe said that his former pals are less than enthused, if you will.

Some say that the reason his form colleagues don’t want him around is so that they can “fold like a cheap tent” in the face of Democrat demands and his presence in D.C. makes that harder to do.

What do you think?

Now-a-days Joe Walsh is a talk show host (what else could he be! Ha, ha) and has a great show evening on WIND AM 560 in Chicago.

Photo: The Very First Computer in the U.S. House of Reps

This is from Roll Call’s Friday Flashback: The First Computer in the House

These days, in absence of computers it would be hard for Capitol Hill to conduct any business. But in the late 1960s, the new technology was a novelty in a world of typewriters and the ever-reliable pen and paper. In this 1967 photo, Speaker John McCormack and House Majority Leader Carl Albert learn to use the first computer in the House. That year, just three computers were on Capitol Hill, according to the Office of the House Historian — one for the Senate sergeant-at-arms, one for the Legislative Reference Service and one for the clerk of the House. The machines were used for inventory, payroll and other accounting work, according to the historian’s office.

Rep. Bustos Claims She’s ‘For the Troops,’ But Skips Defense Spending Vote?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Representative Cheri Bustos (Dem., IL 17th) entered Congress in 2010 claiming she was “for the troops.” But all it took for her to skip the latest vote for defense spending was a photo OP with Barack Obama, the very guy trying to gut the military.

Bustos was one of the nine no-show voters on July 24.

But instead of staying in Washington for the latest vote on the Department of Defense Appropriations bill, Bustos was hobnobbing with Obama during his rehash “jobs” speech in Galesburg, Illinois.

Still, she claims she is “for the troops.” Check out what Bustos says on her own website:

Joint Statement by Illinois House GOP Caucus on President Obama’s Jobs Speech in Galesburg

Illinois House Republicans Peter Roskam (IL-6), Rodney Davis (IL-13), Randy Hultgren (IL-14), John Shimkus (IL-15), Adam Kinzinger (IL-16), and Aaron Schock (IL-18) issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s speech in Galesburg, IL:

“Today, President Obama made his 19th pivot back to what has always been most important to Americans, jobs and the economy. With its 9.2% unemployment rate, full-blown budget crisis and sky-high taxes, our shared home state of Illinois is an example of government making all the wrong economic choices. However, no amount of presidential pivots and speechmaking will change the fact that too many Illinoisans are out of work. It doesn’t have to be this way.

“House Republicans have never strayed from our focus on creating jobs and strengthening our economy. We are developing a tax reform package for individuals and businesses that would increase American competitiveness in the global economy. We have passed a jobs and skills training package, approved the Keystone XL Pipeline, acted to protect families and individuals from a costly healthcare law and put forth a plan to permanently fix our student loan crisis. These proposals would immediately and demonstrably boost the economy, and set the foundation for long-term growth. We agree with the president, too many Americans are struggling in today’s economy, and we stand ready to work toward real, bipartisan solutions, not listen to another stump speech.”

Ill. State Rep Davis: ‘Maybe The Police Are Killing Some Of These Kids’

Illinois State Representative Monique Davis is blaming the Chicago Police Department for the high number of killings in the Windy City. She’s not just blaming the CPD for bad policing, though. She wonders if it is the police themselves doing some of the killing.

Davis, a House member from a district on Chicago’s South Side, uttered the accusation in a “some say so” manner on Detroit’s WCHB-AM radio on July 16.

Rep. Bachmann: Finish Border Fence Before Immigration Reform

-By Warner Todd Huston

USA Today recently put a negative spin on Minnesota Republican Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann’s position about the so-called “Gang of Eight’s” immigration reform bill, characterizing her point as a mere attempt to “kill the immigration overhaul,” yet her points were more nuanced than that.

The paper claims that Bachmann “contends immigrants who came to the United States illegally shouldn’t be rewarded with legal status” and went on to note that she opposes any of the current ideas being floated for immigration reform.

But Bachmann has not said that she doesn’t ever want to deal with the millions of illegal immigrants in the U.S., but that she simply wants to secure the border before any further discussion on what to do with those immigrants is had.

House Defeats Bill to House Terror Detainees in U.S. Prisons

-By Warner Todd Huston

Once again Democrats tried to get a bill passed in the House of Representatives to fund an expansion of U.S. prisons in order to house terror suspects in the U.S. heartland instead of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. As in years previous, however, the measure was defeated.

On June 4 the House shot down an amendment introduced by Representative Jim Moran (D, Vir.) to the military construction spending bill (H.R. 2216) that would have allowed the move.

Moran’s amendment would have struck out language that prevented the construction funds from going to any U.S. prison in order to house detainees now housed at Guantanamo. Moran insisted that the “best place” for accused terrorists is right here in the United States.

“The best place for them to be housed and then tried is in the United States,” Rep. Moran said. “The continuance of the Guantánamo Bay facility represents an immediate security threat to the United States because it is a rallying cry and a recruitment tool for our enemy.”

Moran’s amendment went down to defeat in a 170-254 vote. Every Republican except one voted against the amendment and the Democrats voted 169-25 in favor.

Ill Sen. Kirk to Meet With Former Gangster Turned Congressman Over Plan to ‘Crush’ Gangster Disciples

-By Warner Todd Huston

Chicago has been one of the most dangerous places in the country to live for the last several years with gang shootings wracking the city. To address this plague of gangs, Senator Mark Kirk (R, IL) proposed that some 18,000 gang members be rounded up and prosecuted. Now several African American leaders in Chicago are lambasting Kirk for his idea and one former gang member turned Congressman is demanding a meeting with the Senator.

Early in May, Senator Kirk succumbed to utter frustration over the powerlessness of the Chicago police to stop the violence and demanded that the federal government step in and take over.

Speaking of High School cheerleader Hadiya Pendleton, a teen killed during gang violence in 2012, Kirk said of the gangs, “I would like to crush them, because they shot Hadiya.”

“My top priority is to arrest the Gangster Disciple gang, which is 18,000 people. I would like to do a mass pickup of them and put them all in the Thomson Correctional Facility. I will be proposing this to the assembled federal law enforcement: ATF, DEA and FBI,” the Senator said.

Kirk has noted that the law enforcement community has met his idea with skepticism but law enforcement isn’t the only sector of the city to find fault.

Useful Idiot: Illinois Democrat Says Govt’s Job is to ‘Give Rights’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois State Representative Sara Feigenholtz thinks her job is to “give rights” to people. Feigenholtz recently blurted that out in an interview giving us a perfect example of the key difference between those interested in preserving the American system, its morals, and traditions, and those that have no interest in such niceties and instead what to wholly remake the relationship between government and citizen giving government more and more power over everyone.

In the interview, Feigenholtz, a Chicago Democrat in the 12th District, announced her intention to “give rights” to the gay community in Illinois and felt that this “giving” of rights was one of the most important jobs of elected officials.

“For me, the most precious thing I do as a lawmaker is giving people rights,” Feigenholtz said. “We have a powerful opportunity as elected officials to do this.”

As an aside, Feigenholtz then went on to disgustingly exploit the Holocaust in WWII as a means to push her “gay rights” issues.

Of course, this little admission shows there is a monumental chasm here between progressives and left-wingers like Feigenholtz and the rest of us that hew closer to American tradition.

Infidelity Advocates Ashley Madison Uses Mark Sanford on Billboard Ad

-By Warner Todd Huston

Hook up site AshleyMadison.com is again courting controversy after debuting a new billboard campaign south of Columbia, South Carolina, that uses a photo of ex Governor Mark Sanford to sell its tryst-arranging services.

The ad appears on Interstate 26, 25 miles below South Carolina’s state capital, Columbia, and takes up two, stacked billboards. The top billboard reads “Next time use…” next to a photo of Gov. Sanford. The one below reads “AshleyMadison.com to find your ‘running mate.'” The lower billboard also features the website’s slogan, “Life is short. Have an affair.”

The site’s CEO, Noel Biderman, claims that he hopes his billboards will lead to more acceptance for adultery and cheating and lead to less criticism for those who indulge such behavior.

“We are trying to get people to distinguish between capability, and what goes on in the bedroom,” Biderman said. “There are few voices speaking on behalf of those who are unfaithful. Once we found out [Sanford] was back in business, that’s the story we want to attach ourselves to. We believe careers shouldn’t be lost because you choose not to sustain monogamy.”

Sanford drew criticism in 2009 for an extramarital affair that eventually drove him from the Governor’s office. Now, Ex-Governor Sanford is now running for Congress in South Carolina. His campaign has not released a statement on the billboards.

Infographic: Obama’s Red Tape Rising

Kelsey Harris and Diane Katz, The Heritage Foundation

Regulatory costs skyrocketed in the first term of the Obama Administration, which added nearly $70 billion to the already excessive annual burden of government do’s and don’ts. Virtually every aspect of Americans’ lives is controlled to a varying extent by regulation, including how we light our homes, wash our clothes, fuel our cars, feed our families, and obtain our health care.

The consequences are dire: less investment and innovation, fewer jobs, and the erosion of fundamental freedoms.

In a new report, Red Tape Rising: Regulation in Obama’s First Term, our experts detail the number and cost of these many new rules. We put together this infographic to help understand how these costly regulations affect our lives—and pockets.

What Is This ‘Well Regulated Militia’ Business, Anyway?

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Question:

The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, 1789: “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

We talk about the “right of the people” to “bear arms” all the time. But we don’t often talk about the “well regulated militia” part that precedes it. So, what is it about? Is this militia still relevant to us today? Can we just ignore it? If unnecessary, does the lack of a need for the militia make the whole Second Amendment null and void?

Background:

Our founders had just fought a war with one of the greatest powers in the world. In the mid 1780s, British forces were considered the best of the best. But our founders hadn’t joined a war with a “foreign power.” They had fought a war with their own government in order to separate from it and start anew. This was because we Americans felt England had violated our very rights as Englishmen.

As our Declaration of Independence notes:

“Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”

Hey Dhimmi Duckworth, Rep. Joe Walsh Was Right About Boston Bombers

-By Warner Todd Huston

TODAY: A bombing during the Boston Marathon kills three and injures over a hundred, some requiring multiple amputations. Muslims that had become naturalized American citizens perpetrated these crimes.

During the 2012 election cycle, then Representative Joe Walsh was attacked by his opponent, Tammy Duckworth–now our elected Congressman–and her campaign assistants in what we call “the press” because at a campaign stop he said there are homegrown radical Islamists in America that are just as dangerous as those overseas.

In response to criticism by Dhimmi Duckworth, Walsh said the following: “While the overwhelming majority of Muslim Americans are as peace loving as everyone else, there are radical Islamists right here in the United States trying to kill Americans and destroy this country.”

This man was turned out of office despite that he was 100% right. Now we have a terror apologist in that seat in Washington DC. This is only in keeping with a President that feels the same way as Dhimmi Duckworth.

Obama and Dhimmi Duckworth have failed to keep America safe. Boston’s blood is on their hands.

Joe Walsh now has his own radio show on WIND-AM Chicago.

The Corruption of Big Spending Democrats

-By Warner Todd Huston

Buried in a recent Politico story is a line that reveals the utter corruption of “money in politics.” But not that of money spent electioneering, but that spent by government from the assumed bottomless pockets of the American taxpayer. It is a corruption that has destroyed the Constitution, laid waste the rule of law, perverted our system, and crushed the American way of life and it must end.

The Politico segment in question is from an April 17 piece talking about the failure of the anti-Second Amendment Democrats of getting their gun-banning bills passed in the Senate. It is a quote from a gun-ban advocacy group decrying that “bribery” doesn’t work in politics like it used to.

“Bribery isn’t what it once was,” said an official with one of the major gun-control groups. “The government has no money. Once upon a time you would throw somebody a post office or a research facility in times like this. Frankly, there’s not a lot of leverage.”

It is a revealing quote.

Arkansas’ Rep. Tom Cotton Raises $525K in First Quarter

-By Warner Todd Huston

Freshman Congressman Tom Cotton (R, AR) has announced that he’s already raised $525,000 in the first quarter of the year, quite a haul for this young Congressman from Dardanelle, Arkansas.

“The campaign has over $560,000 cash on hand and no debt,” Cotton’s campaign said in a statement. “As I keep my campaign promises to promote economic opportunity for all, fight wasteful spending, and defend America against all enemies, I’m grateful for the continued generosity and confidence of my supporters,” Rep. Cotton said.

Tom Cotton was elected to Arkansas’ 4th District after five-term Rep. Mike Ross retired. He won office in 2012 and is now serving his first term.

Pastor Rick Warren, Gun Control, and Matthew Warren’s Suicide

-By Warner Todd Huston

Pastor Rick Warren and his family suffered a devastating loss last week when their son, Matthew, took his own life with a pistol that he may have bought illegally from a person he contacted over the Internet. Dealing with such a loss is heartrending, of course, and the Warren family has much to endure as they deal with this terrible incident. But one thing is sure, new gun laws would not have prevented Matthew Warren’s suicide.

Warren’s son, Matthew Warren, committed suicide on April 5 with a self-inflicted gunshot. After news broke, the young man’s father reported that Matthew had been under a doctor’s care for years and had been suicidal for some time. Sadly, his doctors weren’t able to save the young man from his fatal choice.

Rick Warren said, Matthew “suffered from mental illness resulting in deep depression and suicidal thoughts. Despite the best health care available, this was an illness that was never fully controlled and the emotional pain resulted in his decision to take his life.”

In the days since, Warren has Tweeted several times about his son’s death and in a Tweet on Friday afternoon, the Pastor of the Saddleback Valley Community Church mentioned that his son had bought his gun illegally from someone over the Internet.

Mark Levin On Fox’s Dana Perino: ‘I’m Sick Of The Preening, Elitist, Country Club Republicans!’

-By Warner Todd Huston

On April 2 on Fox News’ The Five, former George W. Bush press secretary Dana Perino criticized Doctor Ben Carson for appearing on too many conservative shows. This criticism sent talk show host Mark Levin into criticism of his own saying he was sick of these “preening, elitist, country club Republican(s).”

Ben Carson is the newest star in the conservative firmament and he’s now entering that spot in his debut onto the scene were pundits think they know better about how he should comport himself than he does. Thus, Perino’s advice for Carson is to stop doing TV and radio and “lay low” for a while.

Why? According to Perino it’s because doing conservative talk radio is bad for his image. Already Carson has “burned through so much of his credibility,” Perino claimed.

Should Congressional Staffers Have Their Private Twitter Accounts Published?

-By Warner Todd Huston

A Congressional watchdog group called LegiStorm has announced a sweeping new project aimed at government transparency. But part of that project has staffers on Capitol Hill crying foul because it lists all their private Twitter accounts.

On April 3, LegiStorm announced its new StormFeed tool saying it is a, “real-time, full-text searchable access to every official press release and official tweet from Capitol Hill plus the tweets of thousands of congressional staffers.”

But many staffers began to complain when they began finding their own private info on the thing. Worse, many found out of date or simply wrong info on it. As one staffer told Politico, “I was pretty surprised to show that they even listed who I married, when I married him and where. Why in the world does that need to be in there?”

Politico also said this: “A Democratic staffer said the new feature brings an unwelcome level of scrutiny to a group of people who haven’t sought the spotlight.”

Democrat or no, isn’t this staffer correct, here?

VP Biden Still Lobbying for Gun Control

-By Warner Todd Huston

Vice President Joe Biden is again plying the phones calling his former colleagues on Capitol Hill bending ears over the President’s gun control ideas. His calls are coming on a “near-daily basis” as Obama mounts another push for gun control.

Biden has held private meetings with Republican Senators such as John McCain (Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.) and, Johnny Isakson (Ga.), and will be haunting the offices of Capitol Hill in the days ahead.

It appears that President Obama is relying on Biden to leverage the relationships he had built when he was a long-serving Senator from Delaware to cajole Congress into acquiescing to new gun control laws.

“President Obama is the strategist and Vice President Biden is the tactician,” Democratic consultant Chris Kofinis told The Hill. “I think the president is laying out the frame, the message, the vision about where we need to go and why. The vice president understands how to make that happen. You have two interlocking pieces that work very well together.”

Republicans, however, scoff at the idea that Biden is an effective negotiator.

Eagle-Killing, Investment-Wasting ‘Renewable’ Energy

-By Warner Todd Huston

The “Green Energy” sector has been hit with a series of setbacks over the last few years. From a wind farm being cited for killing an endangered eagle, to solar energy’s tumble from investor favor over dismal performance, to a growing list of companies gone bankrupt even after President Obama pumped millions of our tax dollars into them, the so-called Green Energy sector has certainly seen better, more hopeful days.

In the realm of farce, a wind farm in Nevada finds itself at an unfortunate crossroads of political correctness. Even as the wind farm in White Pine County, Nevada is a favored “Green Energy” nirvana, the company that runs it is under threat of sanctions by the federal government. Why? Because a protected Golden Eagle flew into one of the farm’s turbines killing itself.

Now, San Francisco-based Pattern Energy is awaiting a decision from the feds on whether or not they will have to pay a $3,000 fine for killing the endangered bird.

But as the President might say, that is but “a bump in the road.” Worse than the death of a protected eagle, a recent analysis reveals that the bottom has fallen out of solar energy investments.

Alabama Lawmaker’s, Vile, Race-Tinged Email to Constituent

-By Warner Todd Huston

A Jefferson County, Alabama man got a shock after he emailed a local State Representative when instead of a form reply, or a short, meaningless message, the state representative sent him a vile rant filled with taunts and race-tinged epithets.

When Jefferson County resident Eddie Maxwell sent an email to Alabama’s House members urging them to reject any new gun control measures, State Rep. Joe Mitchell (D, Mobile) responded with a virulent personal attack.

Using his official state government email account, Rep. Mitchell sent back a tirade that raised eyebrows across the Yellowhammer State this week. In the email, Mitchell essentially called Mr. Maxwell a slave owner, and followed that with a string of name-calling and threats of violence against him and those like him.

“Your folk never used all this sheit to protect my folk from your slave-holding, murdering, adulterous, baby-raping, incestuous, snaggle-toothed, backward-a**ed, inbreed, imported criminal-minded kin folk,” Rep, Mitchell wrote in the return email. [Spelling as in original]

Mitchell went on to rant that he will use Maxwell’s message to show why his constituents should “stock up on spare parts, munitions and the like,” in an obvious allusion to using the Second Amendment to protect themselves from white people like Maxwell.

In this eighteen minute video you will encounter a woman that is extremely vital and at 89-years-of-age still sharp as a tack.

As is her wont, Schlafly eschewed kid gloves with her frank discussion of the GOP establishment and how those effete, east coast, country clubbers are at war with the conservative, Midwestern grassroots.

Reuters Regurgitates Democrat Talking Points on Budget Plan

-By Warner Todd Huston

On March 12, Representative Paul Ryan (R, WI) released the GOP’s budget proposal sparking an afternoon of analysis and criticism. By Tuesday evening Reuters was contrasting Ryan’s budget with one sponsored by Senator Patty Murray (D, WA). But there is one problem with Reuters’ analysis. The Democrats didn’t actually release any budget for Reuters to analyze at the time of publication. So, Reuters simply regurgitated Murray’s talking points.

In the Reuters report, the pair of budgets were deemed difficult to pass because they appear “crafted to appeal to their respective party bases.”

Reuters claimed that the problem with Ryan’s budget is that it is likely aimed at getting Rep. Ryan the 2016 GOP Presidential nomination as opposed to being a serious attempt to solve Washington’s budget problems.

Tom Brokaw: Obama Spends Too Much Time Campaigning

-By Warner Todd Huston

Old NBC News hand Tom Brokaw made an appearance on MSNBC’s The Cycle on March 4 and criticized President Obama for campaigning too much instead of governing. Brokaw also castigated Obama for refusing to negotiate with Republicans over the budget impasse and the sequester cuts.

Extremely liberal panel member, Touré, asked Brokaw if the budget impasse was because the GOP is “refusing” to work with Obama because they are “incented” [sic] not to work with him.

Brokaw replied that he didn’t think that Republicans were flat out refusing to work with the President but are negotiating with an eye to the 2014 midterm elections and don’t want to give away too much. Brokaw went on to lament that Obama is doing little else but demonizing the GOP instead of looking for ways to work with them.

Rep. Maxine Waters Inflates Sequester to ‘170 Million’ Jobs Lost

-By Warner Todd Huston

Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D, CA) had a dire prediction for America due to sequestration claiming that 170 million jobs would be lost as a result of the policy. But according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics there are only about 140 million jobs in the whole country.

During a press conference on February 28, Waters told reporters of a visit by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke who told members of congress that sequestration is not the optimal way to cut the federal budget.

Talking of Bernanke’s comments, Waters claimed that “if sequestration takes place, that’s going to be a great setback. We don’t need to be having something like sequestration that’s going to cause these jobs losses, over 170 million jobs that could be lost.”

However, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Table A-9, Selected Employment Indicators, in January of 2013 there were 141,614 million jobs in the current American economy.

Using Waters’ math, the US would lose about 30 million more jobs than it had to start with.

The interview ended in a gushing mutual admiration society as gun-banner Feinstein applauded gun-hater Morgan and vice versa.

“That gun culture is letting bad things happen,” Feinstein sonorously told Morgan at the tail of the interview.

“Well, you’re doing a fantastic job on this, Senator,” Morgan told her. “I absolutely applaud you and urge you to continue,” he added.

The mutual admiration continued as Feinstein said, “Oh, Piers, thank you.”

“You have been wonderful. Thank you so much for your help. It is uphill all the way,” Feinstein concluded.
