Now Even The Word ‘Chicago’ Is Racist!

-By Warner Todd Huston

In our new media era where everything said, thought, or alluded to is “racist,” we can now add the word “Chicago” to that growing-by-the-minute list of words that are now to be considered racial slurs.

Thanks to MSNBC’s resident “biggest jerk in the room,” Chris Matthews, we now know that just saying Chicago makes you a racist. Because, you know, “there’s a lot of blacks in Chicago.”

This was Chris Matthews’ proclamation as he sought to analyze the current political climate.

Chris Matthews: Yea, well let me ask you about that gentleman. What about now, is this constant barrage of assaults, saying the guy is basically playing an old game of demagoguery politics, where you take the money from the worker bees and give it to the poor people to buy votes. That’s basically what they’re charging him with. Old big-style, big-city machine of 50 years ago.

They keep saying Chicago by the way, have you noticed? They keep saying Chicago. That’s another thing that sends that message – this guy’s helping the poor people in the bad neighborhoods, screwing us in the burbs.

John Hielemann: There’s a lot of black people in Chicago

That’s right. Now you too can be a racist anytime you mention the Windy City. Chris Matthews and his smirking, self-satisfied cast of racebaiters have decreed it.

CNN’s ‘A Team’ Rather Do Hurricane Coverage Than RNC Convention

-By Warner Todd Huston

Something interesting to note about the front half of this week’s coverage of the news over at CNN is that the network’s A team reporters — Soledad O’Brien and Anderson Cooper — have for the most part eschewed the GOP convention preferring to stand in the winds of hurricane Isaac rather than be faced with covering Republicans.

For most reporters, when they are told they are doing storm coverage, it consists of standing in the rain and winds to yell into a mic about the wrath of Mother Nature. And it’s usually considered an unwelcome assignment, too.

Think about on-site weather coverage by your local TV news station and you’ll recall that the correspondents that are standing in the wind and rain are never the A team news anchors. As the A team is always sung as a bug back at the studio, usually it’s some low ranking reporter or reporterette — the ones always doing the 100 birthday stories or the lost dog stories — that are sent out to stand in the harsh weather.

But not CNN. No, this week two of CNN’s top talents were the ones standing in the churned surf and 100-mile-per-hour winds to report about hurricane Isaac, a job usually given to reporters on the lowest rung.

Left Said Right’s Linking Katrina to God was Terrible But Left Linking Isaac to God is Fine

-By Warner Todd Huston

In 2005 after hurricane Katrina hit the gulf coast like a sledgehammer, several folks on the right side of America’s political aisle suggested that the devastation the storm inflicted on New Orleans was somehow a punishment imposed on the city by God. Most on the right condemned the remarks. The left, of course, went apoplectic in condemnation.

But, in 2012, apparently linking the wrath of a hurricane to God was suddenly perfectly fine for Democrats and their sycophants as Isaac bore down on the Republican convention in Tampa, Florida.

As hurricane Isaac showed signs of leaving Tampa behind, the Jersey Star-Ledger proudly proclaimed that no one on the left was blaming Isaac on a vengeful God. Sadly, the Star-Ledger didn’t bother to take even a cursory look around to see if any actually did. And of course several left-wingers did link the storm to God.

To name just a few who made the connection:

Tingles Matthews: ‘If I Were Obama, I’d Marry’ Bill Clinton

-By Warner Todd Huston

Can MSNBC’s Chris Matthews make himself any more of a laughing stock? This slobbering sycophant doesn’t just stop with the thrill he gets up his leg at the mere sight of Barack Obama, now he’s having fantasies that if he were Obama he’d “marry” Bill Clinton!

No, we are serious.

One has to wonder why people like Mathews have any credibility at all for the childish hero worship they engage in for Democrat leaders. As Matthews sits gushing like a 12-year-old schoolgirl, moon-eyed over a crush on mere political leaders one has to wonder how his “analysis” could be possibly taken seriously by anyone.

Matthews and his fellow MSNBCers simply have no credibility whatsoever. No wonder NBC is trying so desperately to distance itself from its cable cousin. It’s a bad taint to be brushed with, isn’t it?

Letter to the RNC – Todd Akin Controversy

-By Chuck Busch

It is true that Todd Akin’s medical knowledge is mostly wrong about a women’s body “shutting down” in a rape situation. And Todd Akin’s reference to “legitimate” rape was truly an unfortunate choice of words. He might have been suggesting that there are variable circumstances distinguishing a “rape,” including forcible rape (“legitimate” as Rep. Akin described it), statutory rape (consensual) between an adult and a minor, and possibly those occasional uncertain cases when rape is claimed. But this is also lame by inferring that pregnancies resulting from a rape are extremely rare as though trying to mitigate the thorny problem of whether abortion is justified in such cases.

Lessons learned: 1.) Do your homework and verify your scientific facts before opening your mouth; 2.) Rehearse your lines and know your position before you do interviews;’ 3.) Be principled in your beliefs. Say what you mean and mean what you say. If you believe life begins at conception and is sacred, how often a rape situation occurs is irrelevant. A life is still a life no matter how it is conceived. 4.) Distinguish between your personal views and party platforms or current legal standard or proposed legislation. As I understand it, neither the Republican or Democrat platforms are specific about rape cases.

Nonetheless, the Republican Party is wrong to try to ostracize Rep. Akin for his misstatements regarding rape and abortion. Certainly, it is ridiculous for anyone to presume from even Rep. Todd Akin’s terrible wording, that he minimizes rape or is insensitive toward its victims, as some have declared. The Democrats appear desperate to build a whole campaign on just this one incident.

Ad Wars: Obama’s ‘Republican’ Woman, Registered as Dem. for Last 6 Years

-By Warner Todd Huston

One of Barack Obama’s recent ads for his re-election campaign is supposed to feature Republican women who have turned away from the GOP to support Obama/Biden. But, as it turns out, one of the women in the ad is not so “Republican” as she’s presented, having been a registered Democrat for the last 6 years — several years longer than Obama has been president.

Still Shot of Fake Obama Republican, Maria Ciano of Colorado

“People like me and my family have realized that the Republican Party once was inline with our views, but are no longer,” Ciano says in the ad.

But Maria Ciano of Colorado has been a registered Democrat since October of 2006 according to her voting records.

Obama’s Negative Campaign Excused as ‘High Stakes of Campaign’

-By Warner Todd Huston

The lengths to which the media will go to excuse the entirely negative campaign that President Obama is running seems to know no bounds. The latest is the dismissal of the interference that Obama and his minions are planning during the GOP convention. It is being excused away as if he has to engage in the negative attacks, as if some outside force is making him do it.

Not only is Barack Obama running the most all around negative campaign in many decades, he’s about to break another tradition of campaign civility.

In the past, Democrats have kept a low profile during the GOP nominating convention and when the Democrat Party held its convention, the GOP would similarly remain quiet. This was, of course, a gentlemen’s agreement each civilly allowing the other to have their moment in the spotlight.

“Traditionally, there was a kind of courtesy extended to the party having the convention — the [other] party would basically stay out of the public eye,” Ross Baker, political scientist at Rutgers University told The Hill.

But not this time. This year Obama is about to embark on a tactless, mean-spirited series of visits to Florida during the GOP convention quite despite the civil comportment of past candidates on both sides. This is a break of the protocol that has existed for decades and proves that Obama is really running a gutter campaign.

CNN’s Important GOP Convention News: Strippers Readying for Convention

-By Warner Todd Huston

CNN has a habit of getting to the real meat of a story, finding all the most important angles, and its coverage of the GOP convention is no exception. CNN has a reputation to burnish by finding only the most important convention stories and with its latest story about how an important sector of Tampa is readying for the convention, it appears the cable channel really is at its hard hitting best. What important sector is under the CNN microscope? Tampa’s strip clubs, naturally.

Of all the important stories that CNN could pick to investigate, strip clubs is where the venerable “news” leader goes?

CNN’s opening paragraph really goes for the salacious right off the bat, too.

Go-Go and Ezili are dancing cheek to cheek on a Friday night. That is to say they’re spinning, glute to glute, on a polished chrome pole at a strip club.

Really? Dancing “glute to glute”?

Did someone let the TMZ or National Enquirer editors into the CNN newsroom?

Detached ‘Journalist’ Accidentally Admits He’s Part of Obama Chorus

-By Warner Todd Huston

Most “journalists” like to pretend they are separate from mere politics, but apparently MSNBC’s uni-named Touré doesn’t. He seems to assume he isn’t merely observing and reporting on President Obama, but is part of Obama’s team. We might assume this by his on-air Freudian slip delivered to us on Wednesday, August 22.

On MSNBC’s The Cycle, Touré made a telling mistake while disgorging his usual Obama talking points. During the discussion, Touré said that “we” had “succeeded in defining Romney early.”

“We,” Touré? Who’s we?

The discussion had turned to the political ads for this campaign cycle when Touré spoke up saying (my bold):

I mean, there’s only 24 hours in a day, Krystal, so even if you unleashed a billion dollars of ads in October, you can’t run 25 hours. But I mean we have – or the Obama campaign has – succeeded in, or attempted to succeed in, defining Romney early when Romney was undefined for many voters. So, I mean, that perhaps would be a value of June, July advertising, right?

Apparently Touré imagines himself to be part of the Obama flack machine whose job is to destroy Mitt Romney and now his veep pick, Paul Ryan. So much for being a detached journalist merely reporting on the news. Touré apparently is a partisan member of team Obama as opposed to any sort of journalist.

Frmr Sec of State Madeleine Albright Says Her Bush Hate Lasts Forever

-By Warner Todd Huston

Obama-pushing former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright has at last revealed when Obama will stop blaming George W. Bush for every ill of our day. Never! At least that is what she told attendees at an Obama rally in Highlands Ranch, Colorado this week.

Albright was speaking to a small audience of Obama supporters and she thought it might be amusing to relay an encounter she had at a previous appearance were a man tired of the blame game confronted her on her Bush Derangement Syndrome. He asked her “how long are you people going to blame the previous administration” for everything?

Albright’s reply was telling.

I guess we can say Albright, has gone all Moby Dick on us with her own rendition of, “to the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at thee.”

But what we see here is the Obama administration’s total refusal to take responsibility for its own actions. No matter what, Obama intends to stick with the blame game, refusing to address the actual issues before the American people. If you are one of those “moderates” that claim you are sick of the vitriol in politics, see this as confirmation that Barack Obama has no intention of putting the brakes on this sort of negative politics.

Obama Programming Media to His Favor

-By Warner Todd Huston

Obama threw the White House press corps a bone on Monday by appearing for 20 some minutes and taking a grand total of four questions from those members of the Old Media whose official job is to report from the White House.

This means that the President has taken about six serious questions from the press since June. But this doesn’t mean he’s taken no other questions from the press. Unfortunately, the questions he has taken have not been from a free and open press but have been pre-programmed by The One himself.

While ducking the supposed serious reporters in the clubby WH press corps Obama has been on a whirlwind tour of morning zoo radio shows, entertainment media like Entertainment Tonight, and has allowed puffball interviews from down-the-line, local media outlets where he is sure no serious questions will be asked.

Why is he sure he’ll face no serious questions? Because he has forced each and every one of these “interviewers” to stick to pre-approved questions that he wrote for them himself. Worse, those puffballers aren’t even trying to pretend that they are conducting serious interviews, fully admitting that the White House programmed their face time with the President.

Ryanitis: Dowd Loses Her Delicately Balanced Mind in Ryan Fearmongering

-By Warner Todd Huston

Usually I don’t write much about wholly meaningless people, but on Saturday, August 18, New York Times screedist Maureen Dowd turned in a particularly unhinged performance that just screams to be discussed. It might also scream that MoDowd’s Ryanitis is at such an advanced case of virulence that she might just need professional help to get over it.

MoDowd begins her piece discussing the prescient, important political theories of that highly consequential “metal rap guitarist,” Tom Morello. You may know — or you may not care — that Mr. Morello is part of the band Rage Against The Machine, a group that has been so vital on the music scene that they haven’t put out an album since the year 2000. I guess they are still hiding from the coming millennial bug that is sure to destroy the world as we know it.

Anyway, Mo quotes Mr. Morello’s hatred for all things Paul Ryan and Republican as if the opinion of yet another extremist, left-wing “entertainer” is something of note, but she soon abandons Morello’s ramblings to ramble on a bit herself.

What seems to get Mo’s inner goat the most appears to be that Romney’s pick of Paul Ryan has excited the conservative base. Apparently she finds this approval appalling. But appalling or no, she has time to put on her pop psychologist’s hat and imagine she can peer into the brains of every GOP presidential and vice presidential coupling since George H.W. Bush and has come to the conclusion that Ryan “looks like a bonus Romney son.”

Deep, eh?

Gary Hart Predicts Obama in a Landslide

-By Warner Todd Huston

One-time presidential hopeful Gary Hart recently penned a blog post at Huffington Post predicting that if the coming presidential election is decided on “the economy stupid,” it “won’t even be close.” It’ll be Obama/Biden in a landslide.

Hart notes, and correctly, that the economy is quite intertwined with foreign policy these days due to globalization. Considering the interconnectedness of economic and foreign policy, Hart says, Obama/Biden have the greater experience.

Should President Obama have had a successful foreign policy doctrine and would that Vice President Biden been an able and vital partner in such a policy, Hart might be correct. Unfortunately, few foreign policy experts see a successful Obama foreign policy regime much less any sort of scheme that could even be called the “Obama Doctrine” of foreign policy.

“Leading from behind,” if you will, is not a successful foreign policy doctrine. But Hart is sure that because Obama grew up in Indonesia he better understands the “international set of complex networks” that is our world today.

Apologize! Boston Globe Slams VP Biden Over ‘Chains’ Remark

-By Warner Todd Huston

Last week the talk of the news cycle centered on yet another “gaffe” by Vice President Joe Biden. In front of an audience half filled with African Americans Biden made the outrageous claim that Republicans want to put blacks “back in chains.” Many left-wingers and Democrats rushed out to defend Biden’s idiocy, but this weekend the Boston Globe parted company with defenders and demanded that Biden apologize for his remarks.

One of the untenable claims that Democrats are using to try and excuse Biden’s comments is that the audience in Danville, Virginia didn’t have many blacks in it. Therefore, Biden lapsing into black dialect and saying Mitt Romney wants to put “ya’all back in chains” surely wasn’t an example of Biden talking to blacks. But it its very first paragraph, the Globe demolishes that faux fact saying that Biden was addressing a crowd made up of “hundreds of African Americans.”

The Globe is correct on that point. Video of the event does show that the audience was about half African American.

CNN’s O’Brien Scoffs at Democrat Spin Of Biden’s ‘Chains’ Comment

-By Warner Todd Huston

Perhaps in an attempt to prove she isn’t a left-winger after all, CNN’s Soledad O’Brien has found an Obama talking point that she feels quite comfortable slamming. O’Brien finds the spin that Vice President Biden didn’t mean anything by his “put ya’all back in chains” comment is a bit hard to swallow.

On the August 16 broadcast of her Starting Point morning show, O’Brien took the opportunity of an interview with Representative Emanuel Cleaver (D, MO) to press the Democrats on their off handed dismissal of Biden’s remarks and it didn’t seem as if Cleaver was prepared for such nay saying of his blather.

After being caught using a left-wing blog to program her talking points on her CNN show, Soledad O’Brien recently told The Hollywood Reporter that she is neither left nor right, but is just right down the middle. Perhaps she feels she has something to prove, but, regardless, she is right to be suspicious of the Democrat’s untenable support of our gaffe-prone Vice President.

VIDEO: Obama/Abortion Supporter Spits in Face of Grandmotherly Romney Supporter in Wisconsin

-By Warner Todd Huston

Once again we see an Obama/abortion supporter who cannot keep to a civil debate, this time in Wisconsin where Appleton resident Mary Hogland, 83, tried to interrupt a small, private Romney event. When her outburst was vociferously opposed by the Romney supporters that were actually invited to the gathering, Hogland spat in the face of one of the elderly women present.

This gathering was part of a “Wisconsin Women for Mitt” bus tour event featuring Wis. State Senator Alberta Darling and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch who recently beat a recall election mounted by the Badger State’s government employee unions.

Hogland interrupted the event questioning the Republican’s opposition to abortion and Planned Parenthood.

The small event, held in Grand Chute, Wisconsin, was by invite only, says Chris Hanson owner of the place where the event was held.

“This is a private business and we invited a small group of clients and friends. Whatever happened to grace and mercy in politics? This isn’t a town hall meeting,” Hanson said.

After Hogland assaulted the Romney rally goers, she and another protester were removed from the premises to chants of, “Romney, Romney, Romney!”

On her Facbook page, Mary Hogland lists several left-wing and Obama items as her interests. It is apparent she is quite the left-wing activist.

Hogland was treated for scratches on her neck by paramedics after she was escorted out of the event.

Race to the White House: The American Media’s Lack of Moral Discernment

-By Warner Todd Huston

Many on the GOP side of the aisle have been complaining that Mitt Romney seems to be incapable of hitting back against the constant stream of lies, innuendo, and calumny that Obama and his minions have unleashed thus far in this campaign. Romney’s campaign has been a veritable campaign of milquetoastiness by comparison. Yet the Old Media has the gall to claim that there is too much mud slinging going on by both sides.

This inability of the press to discern the tenor of the two campaigns proves two things clearly. First that the media are ignorant of the concept of morality, certainly, but it also pretty much proves that they are sold out to Obama’s reelection campaign.

Take Politico’s recent piece where they complain that “even the media’s had enough” of the “disgrace” that this race has become.

The race for the White House has grown so toxic that it’s become a top topic among reporters and analysts covering the contest — and some are even calling on President Barack Obama and presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney to call a truce.

Politico goes on to repeat carping from such Old Media mavens as Brian Williams of NBC News, former Democrat operative and current NBC/MSNBC correspondent Chuck Todd, CNN’s lefty shill Soledad O’Brien, and others, all of whom claim to be tired of the “ugly” campaign.

MSNBC Commentator: Hey, Biden Talking In Black Dialect Didn’t Mean He was Talking about Blacks!

-By Warner Todd Huston

Proving that nothing so painfully obvious as Joe Biden saying that Republicans want to bring back chattel slavery can’t be spun away into meaningless babble, MSNBC trotted out Joy-Ann Reid on the August 15 broadcast of News Nation with Tameron Hall to prove it could be done.

On Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden perpetrated yet another one of his near daily gaffes at a rally in Danville, Virginia. His comments drew sharp criticism from Romney, Republicans — any clear thinking person should be aghast at Biden’s remarks , really — and this prompted MSNBC to cast about to find some way to obviate Biden’s clear context into something that would reflect badly against Republicans instead of Biden and Obama.

In Virginia Biden said, “Look at what they value, and look at their budget. And look what they’re proposing. [Romney] said in the first 100 days, he’s going to let the big banks write their own rules — unchain Wall Street.”

Biden next lapsed into street talk, or what some might call black dialect, dramatically saying, “They’re going to put y’all back in chains.”

Why, what ever could ol’ “Sheriff” Joe mean?

Politco’s Full Court Press to Destroy Paul Ryan

-By Warner Todd Huston

Politico seems to have decided where it stands on Paul Ryan. On its main page on the afternoon of August 15, the news site seemed to carry a single message: Paul Ryan is a bad, bad man and Romney made a big mistake picking him as his wingman.

Ryan is slammed in a dozen stories on Politico’s main page. He’s either personally bad, reflects badly on Romney, or he makes his Party look bad. In fact, on this day there was only one sort of positive story about Paul Ryan that appears on Politico’s main page.

One story even ridicules him for having appeared too many times on the campaign trail dressed almost the same as Mitt Romney. Seriously. Politico is even now trying to attack Romney and Ryan over how they dress!

Here is a listing of the Ryan is bad stories:

  • How Ryan spurned deficit commission
  • Ryan no help to Romney with Hispanics
  • Romney’s VP pick lays out a road divided
  • Obama attacks Mitt-Ryan on Medicare
  • Tom Reynolds warns on Medicare (Ryan pick is bad for publicity)
  • Romney and Ryan: Fashion twins
  • Boehner tries to calm House GOP (Over Ryan’s budget ideas)
  • Beneath ‘Mediscare’ talk, who’s right?
  • Press restrictions on Ryan trail (whining about how bad Ryan’s aides are)
  • GOP pros fret over Ryan
  • Romney/ Ryan Medicare plan (Jay Leno slamming the GOP)
  • Obama hits Romney/Ryan on Medicare (Video)

And the Positive Ryan Stories:

  • Poll: Small post-Ryan bump for Mitt

On the purported positive story, note that the headline goes out of its way to call the polling bump “small” as if it is inconsequential? Yeah, we don’t want people excited that Romney/Ryan got a bump in the polls, do we?

So, Politico has decided. Paul Ryan brings nothing good to the ticket and there just isn’t a single thing out there to report that puts him in a positive light. Imagine that?

Long After Romney-Killed-My-Wife Ad, Politico Finally Ready to Compare Claims Of Romney and Obama?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Now that Mitt Romney has picked Paul Ryan for his running mate, Politico finds itself finally ready to compare the stump claims and campaign ads of the two campaigns. But instead of looking at gutter ads like Obama’s claiming Mitt Romney killed a steel worker’s wife, Politico thinks it’s better to compare ads and rhetoric focused on Medicare.

Calling it the “Mediscare” campaign, Politico’s piece is a long comparison of Obama’s and Romney’s claims of how each other would treat Medicare. This is certainly a useful discussion, to be sure, but where is Politico’s piece comparing Romney’s mild campaign thus far to the cynical, lie-filled attacks that Obama and Joe Biden as well as all their minions have launched at team Romney over the last few months?

Wouldn’t it have been useful to compare Romney’s issues-based campaign claims to Obama’s claiming that Romney killed a man’s wife or even this week’s claim from Biden who told an African American audience that Romney and Ryan want to bring back the black slave trade? (And worse, Biden even resorted to “black dialect” to do it!)

NBC Nightly News: Ignores Republican Delight About VP Pick, Says Ryan Got ‘Not So Warm Welcome’

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Tuesday’s broadcast of NBC’s Nightly News, anchor Brian Williams and reporter Peter Alexander made to look at Rep. Paul Ryan’s first few days on the hustings as Mitt Romney’s new VP pick. And what did they see? They didn’t see the almost universal praise by conservatives and Republicans alike, no, what they saw instead was a “not so warm welcome to the Big Leagues” for Paul Ryan.

There have thus far been few, substantive complaints about Paul Ryan from the GOP rank and file or from conservative leaders or conservative commentators. Ryan premiered to solid positive poll ratings, the first major poll featuring the VP pick sees Ryan at 50% approval, a very solid debut rating, and a past poll even found that Ryan is doing well with seniors — exactly the voters that Obama is trying to frighten to death with his obscene campaign rhetoric.

But praise and excitement for Ryan is not what NBC wants people to believe about the Paul Ryan pick. NBC wants people to fear Ryan, to feel he’s “controversial,” and unpopular.

Obama’s Iowa State Fair Visit Costs Small Businessman $25,000

-By Warner Todd Huston

It’s always nice to have a visit by a sitting president, I suppose, but these days security concerns are so overwhelming that it is often very uncomfortable for those residents and businessmen that live nearby and with Obama’s visit to the Iowa state Fair one small businessman ended up losing $25,000 in income as a result.

Small businessman Mike Cunningham runs the Bud Beer tent at the state fair but saw the Secret Service shut him down for several hours at a peak sales time when the President came to town.

The Bud Beer tent is known as the center of the evening festivities at the state fair but as Obama visited the fair, the beer tent was shut down to accommodate the needs of the Secret Service sent there to protect the President. Mr. Cunningham is a third generation owner of the tent which has been a fair staple for 65 years.

MSNBC’s Toure suggested that Mitt Romney was engaging in the “niggerization” of Obama. This ignorant, assinine , cretinous, stupidity from this race-baiting piece of crap drew a very thoughtful reply from conservative African American named Kira Davis from California.

Davis said that Toure’s comment made her “sick to my stomach” and she goes on to lambaste Toure’s race baiting and his “watering down” a term of hate.

“Toure says Romney’s tactics are the ‘niggerization’ of Obama. I take HUGE issue with that term and accusation, as someone with intimate knowledge of racism,” says Miss Davis.

Paul Ryan: Most Talked About Pol on Facebook

-By Warner Todd Huston

CNN reported this week that Rep. Paul Ryan has become the king of Facebook by knocking President Obama off “the most talked about” list of US politicians.

CNN recently entered into a partnership with Facebook to track things political on the social sharing network and according to the new “Facebook-CNN Election Talk Meter,” in the 54 hours after presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney introduced Rep. Paul Ryan as his choice for the vice presidency, Paul Ryan became the star of social media.

Facebook-CNN talk meter scores

  1. Rep. Paul Ryan 5.21
  2. President Barack Obama 4.84
  3. Vice President Joe Biden 4.01
  4. Gov. Mitt Romney 3.74

In fact, Ryan became such a hot topic on social media that he almost matched Olympic swimming star Michael Phelps on the Talk Meter and that is pretty impressive considering how badly politics typically shows up on Internet “top” lists compared to pop culture and sports. As CNN measured it, in the days after he won all his most recent Olympic medals Phelps rated a 6.51 to Ryan’s 5.21 on the 1-10 scale.

NBC’s Lauer Knocks Down Obama Flack Stephanie Cutter With President’s Own Words

-By Warner Todd Huston

Obama flack Stephanie Cutter appeared on NBC’s Today for what she likely assumed would be a softball interview but got a few hardballs from host Matt Lauer instead when the morning talker used President Obama’s own words to slice Cutter down to size.

Cutter came on to act the attack dog for team Obama as one more flack out there trying to tear down Rep. Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney’s pick for Vice President.

Like so many of her fellows, Cutter refused to engage in any actual debate preferring instead to fearmonger, name call, and essentially lie about Ryan’s past policy proposals. But this time, NBC’s Lauer wouldn’t let Cutter just blather on without being pressed on the facts.

Lauer started the segment reminding Cutter that the President himself said that Paul Ryan was “absolutely sincere about wanting to reduce the deficit.” He went on to ask Cutter if the President still felt that Ryan was an honorable, serious Republican who sincerely wanted to offer solutions to America’s problems.

Instead of responding to the question, Cutter went into her rote attack on Ryan saying he isn’t “bold” because he didn’t “buck” his own party and that Ryan wanted to hurt the middle class by not asking “anything from the very wealthy.”

Reuters Goes After That ‘Wealthy’ Mormon Church

-By Warner Todd Huston

As the race for the White House heats up, Reuters suddenly realized that the massive Mormon Church has a lot of money in its bank accounts and sought to needle the Church saying if it were a business “wealthy adherents like Mitt Romney would count as its dominant revenue stream.”

Reuters took the if-it-were-a-business theme even farther in its opening paragraphs.

It would also likely attract corporate gadflies protesting a lack of transparency. They would call for less spending on real estate and more on charitable causes to improve membership growth — the Mormons’ return on investment.

Of course, a religion is not a “business” proposition. A religion does not operate like a company does. It has far different goals. But assessing a religion wasn’t Reuters’ goal, here. Making Mormons out to be “rich” elitists that act suspiciously and are pushing a snobbish presidential candidate on the nation was Reuters’ goal.

DNC Chair Wasserman Schultz Demolished by… CNN’s Wolf Blitzer?

-By Warner Todd Huston

The most unkind cut of all is when your paper thin understanding of the facts is shredded by someone you think is on your side. This is what happened to Democrat National Committee Chairperson Debbie Wasserman Schultz when she kept trying to tell CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that Ryan’s Medicare reform plan took Medicare away from everyone even though, as Blitzer repeatedly pointed out, the truth is that Ryan’s reforms only altered the entitlement for those 55 and younger.

It was painful to watch Schultz being eviscerated by her own CNN mouthpiece.

Of course Blitzer was correct. When Paul Ryan introduced his budget reform plan, the Roadmap For America’s Future, he did suggest that reforms for Medicare would kick in for those 55 and under.
