Draft Tom McClintock For President 2012

-By Warner Todd Huston

Looks like a few McClintock supporters are already starting a move to get California Republican Tom McClintock a on the GOP’s 2012 presidential campaign.

Paul Gann and Ted Costa have launched a Draft McClintock website and are already putting the bug in everyone’s ear to take a serious look at their guy. www.DraftTom.com is live.

When Paul Gann and I worked to pass Prop 13 here in California back in 1978 we had no idea what a major tax revolt it would start across the country, with the final triumph being the election of Ronald Reagan to the office of President! Well, now California and our county are facing even greater challenges and again a strong voice is being heard from California!

Congressman Tom McClintock has been sounding the fiscal alarms in Washington, warning them about how financial recklessness has driven California to the point of bankruptcy and defending our US Constitution at every turn with a powerful voice of reason to oppose government run healthcare, bail-outs, massive new energy taxes and the lack of security on our southern border.

Over 1.2 MILLION people have listened to the powerful response that Congressman McClintock recently gave to Mexican President Calderon when he actually received a standing ovation from the Democrats in the House Chamber where he dared to state his opposition to OUR immigration laws! IF you agree with me that it is time to take this battle to the next level, then please take a moment to watch this short video and join with thousand of your fellow Americans in signing our petition to Congressman McClintock!

Ted Costa is President of People’s Advocate, Inc. (www.peoplesadvocate.org) a group founded by Paul Gann.

So, that is at least one draft-my-guy movement in the political winds. There’s sure to be more to come but the McClintock folks are out of the gate early.

Obama Press Sec. Gibbs’ Challenging Reading Material: a Star Wars Pop-Up Book

-By Warner Todd Huston

Descending from Air Force One, Obama Press Secretary Robert Gibbs clutches his latest choice of reading material, the “Star Wars Pop-Up Guide.”

The captions write themselves, don’t you think?

We know the book was a gift from the president for Gibbs’ son, Ethan, of course. But the photo is just too delicious and the thoughts it brings to mind are many and varied.

From the low-grade, comic book choice of reading material revealing the “depth” of Robert Gibbs’ mind, to the idea of Obama as evil Emperor trying to create an evil empire, the allusions between the pop culture, bubble gum reading and the Obama administration are just too hard to pass up.

Let your mind wander through all the amusing possibilities, won’t you?

Statement From Kirk Dillard: Count ALL The Ballots

As everyone waits to find out who will be the official GOP nominee for Governor, we see that only 406 votes separates ostensible winner Bill Brady and still hopeful Kirk Dillard.

Still on pins and needles, Dillard is holding out for all absentee ballots and all mail ins to be counted…

Republican candidate for Illinois Governor Kirk Dillard today said at a press conference in Chicago that the ballot counting process in the GOP Primary must continue, “until all of the legal ballots have been counted and verified.”

Is This The President’s Fake Letter to the Editor

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper happened upon a curious letter to the editor in support of President Obama that seems to have suddenly popped up in nearly 40 newspapers across the country all at once. Every letter claims to be written by an “Ellie Light” and all claim to be from a resident local to the newspaper’s audience — different hometowns used in each case. All are identical whether they’ve been printed in the Washington Times or the Los Banos Enterprise, a small newspaper in California.

The letter jumps to the support of President Obama saying in part that President Obama never promised that “our problems would wash off in the morning.”

But today, the president is being attacked as if he were a salesman who promised us that our problems would wash off in the morning. He never made such a promise. It’s time for Americans to realize that governing is hard work, and that a president can’t just wave a magic wand and fix everything.

The odd thing is that this letter has appeared all on the same day, all across the country, and all claiming to be from a local letter writer interested in drumming up sympathy for President Obama. The whole thing stinks of an astroturf effort — an effort to carpet the news with a fake grass-roots styled letter.

Who had the power to get this letter placed in so many papers all on the same day? Who had the reach to do this? It certainly smacks of a coordinated effort either by the President’s staff or the national party.

Book Review: What Are These Tea Parties About, Anyway?

-By Warner Todd Huston

A new book about the Tea Party movement — and a movement it really is — will soon be hitting the shelves. “A New American Tea Party” penned by John M. O’Hara, one of the many folks that helped bring us some of those protests in early 2009, is a book that hopes that the reader will come away understanding and appreciating the Tea Party movement as a truly grassroots happening, a spontaneous outpouring of interest backed by true red, white and blue American ideals.

Author O’Hara, himself an early Tea Party organizer in Washington D.C. and the Chicago area, answers several questions with the book: what sparked the Tea Parties; is the name “Tea Party” itself a proper sobriquet; what do they mean; what does the future hold; and how do you make more?

The first thing one might notice is that O’Hara writes in a crisp, conversational style with short subchapters. This makes it ideal for reading bits at a time. This is not a dense treatment and I think his style makes the book very accessible to people of all ages — without talking down to the young or dumbing it down for the more advanced reader.

Illini Alliance: The Place for All Illinois Center Right Websites

A few years ago I built a webpage that was meant as the single site where Republicans, conservatives and libertarians in Illinois could go to find links to all the center right Illinois websites out there. I called it the Illini Alliance.

I built it and then let it sit unused for several years but recently I’ve taken a lot of pains to update it to properly reflect the state of Illinois center right blogs, policy organizations and state party websites.

The main purpose for the site is to keep conservative Illinois bloggers better connected to each other and to serve as a resource of information for center right bloggers to use in their efforts to further their center right message. With this page, we hope to list every center right, conservative, Republican and libertarian website in the state of Illinois to better serve the conservative political blogging community.

So, if you want to know of all the center right blogs and websites in the state, the Illini Alliance is the place to go.

If you know of a center right blog or website that is missing from the blogroll, please inform us so we can update the list.

If you’d like to add the Illini Alliance blogroll to your website, there are instructions on the site to help you do that.

Unions a Danger to Good Government

-By Warner Todd Huston

What happens when a private sector union gets far too many benefits to the point where the business for which its membership works goes under or whose existence is threatened? Punishment. Unions either take a reduction of benefits or pay — or both — and cuts in time or jobs in order to right the ship and keep the business afloat occur. Just like punishment comes to businesses that make bad business decisions, private employee unions also realize punishment for overreach. At the risk of losing the whole enterprise both for unions and owners, the market serves to correct excess.

Unfortunately, there is no such corrective for union overreach for government employees. These unions rarely face any punishment for excess. And therein lies the reason that unions are antithetical to good government.

Of course, we’ve discussed this theme many times here at the blog over the past few years. But to buttress the discussion I’d like to relate some statistics. The Heritage Foundation’s James Sherk recently took a look at the most current reports from labor and found that 12.4% of the American work force is made up of union members. But he notes that, while union membership has fallen to 7.3% of private sector jobs, it has risen to a never before seen 37.6% unionization of government employees — and this number is growing. Government workers now make up 51% of all unionized workers in the USA.

Replacing Black Power With Militant Islam

-By Warner Todd Huston

Even with the age of Obama dawning, for too many black Americans life is still fraught with the same old “us against them” sort of thinking. Where once militant blacks paraded in pseudo military garb claiming the mantle of “black power” and patterning themselves as “panthers” thrusting an angry fist into the air, now they cling to the separatist ideals of militant Islam.

Early last week in an FBI raid in Michigan Luqman Ameen Abdullah was killed in a gunfight with officials. This weekend local African American Muslims attended his funeral vowing to get “justice.”

These local black Americans claimed that this terror cell leader “constantly strived for righteous deeds,” and that he was a dedicated man of God.

For their part officials say this Imam, the head of a separatist Mosque of local African Americans, was a violent extremist who urged attacks on police and called for jihad.

Happy Che Guevara Death Day

-By Warner Todd Huston

I almost forgot to celebrate a great day in history. It was on this day in 1967 that that murdering scumbag Ernesto “Che” Guevara was killed by Bolivian forces.

I am always amused that this supposed military genius got captured by such unprofessional soldiers and when confronted tried to save his own life by pleading not to be shot because he was “worth more alive than dead” to the solders before him. Big tough guy suddenly pleading for his life.

He got what he deserved. Too bad more of his ilk didn’t get theirs.

New York Mag Sees Palin Under Bed at Night

-By Warner Todd Huston

New York Magazine is so afraid of Palin that it cannot help but imagine grand, wild conspiracy theories even in her choice of New York restaurants. Seriously.

The now ex-guv was in New York this week to meet with her publisher and decided to take a little time from business for a nice dinner at the well known eatery Michaels. The restaurant is a hang out for denizens of the publishing industry so it might seem a natural thing that her publisher would take her to a place where publishers hang out… right?

Not according to New York Magazine. To the scandal inventors of this rag, Palin could only have ulterior motives for daring to go to a restaurant that serves as a hang out for journalists.

Guess she just couldn’t have been hungry, right?

Ark. Democrat Hides Behind Sick Kids to Stop Townhall Protests

-By Warner Todd Huston

Congressman Vic Snyder (D, Ark.) has in the past claimed that he is braver than his opponents because he has the back bone to face the hard questions in open debate. But that was before Obamacare came along. Now, Snyder is hiding behind sick kids at a local hospital where he is holding a townhall meeting. Snyder is telling opponents of Obamacare that an “angry protest” would not be appropriate at a hospital where sick kids are being treated. So why hold a townhall there in the first place? Perhaps for the very reason that he can eliminate opposing views because it’s “for the kids”?

Kenneth Wallis is reporting that Congressman Snyder has set up a townhall meeting at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. The radio commercials advertising the open-to-the-public event stated that the event was starting at 2PM, but Wallis called the hospital and was told the time was changed to 1PM. No reason for the abrupt time change was given.

Wallis was also told by a Bonnie from Ark. Children’s Hospital that a “protest in anger” is not appropriate at a children’s hospital where sick kids are undergoing treatment.

So, the question becomes, why is Congressman Snyder hiding behind sick kids? It is a pretty interesting way to shut down any opposing views to say that the “sick kids” would be upset by protests at Snyder’s townhall, isn’t it? And, if Snyder knows that there are people that want to oppose his vote for Obamacare, why doesn’t he have the back bone to face his own constituents?

Flawed NYT Poll Used to Urge Obama’s Takeover of Healthcare

-By Warner Todd Huston

Froma Harrop may have once been called Heartland Institute’s “favorite lefty” journalist, but lefty she is and her use of a lopsided New York Times poll to urge President Obama to “act fast” on a government healthcare policy is a perfect example of that.

With her June 23 article, Harrop was frustrated that Obama was not “stepping on the gas” to institute publicly funded healthcare and she wondered why he is dragging his feet when “85 percent of Americans want ‘fundamental changes’ in American healthcare.” This factoid she gleans from a very flawed NYT poll that is so badly skewed to the left that it is amazing anyone takes it seriously.

Harrop makes no bones about the fact that she wants a nationalized healthcare policy to be forced on the nation and she also doesn’t think that anyone needs to listen to Republicans, effectively disenfranchising the roughly half of the American electorate that votes that way. Amazingly, Harrop is supposed to be a “financial reporter,” yet she still wants this disastrously expensive, jobs killing, cost spiraling sort of plan anyway. This doesn’t say much about her grasp of economics.

Nonetheless, Harrop says it should be full speed ahead.

Feminist Grammar That Isn’t

-By Warner Todd Huston

Feminists are in essence an anti-intellectual lot. After all, the back flips they have to do to justify their anti-male crusade is an act worthy of Olympics style awards. Such are the illogical back bends that feminists must to do to justify their ideology that men become wholly unnecessary, biology and nature be damned. There are many intellectual outrages to education and tradition that feminists employ to make themselves feel superior. But I want to focus here on just one of these.

The example I’d like to discuss today is the elimination of the masculine pronoun. For those not “up” on their Strunk & White’s, the masculine pronoun is used when speaking about people generically. Example: Everyone should take his tea with milk. In this example the tea drinker is identified as “his” because a specific person or gender is not a focus, the sentence being centered on how people in general should drink tea.

Time Gets Taken By Fake McCain Adviser Unmasked Months Ago

-By Warner Todd Huston

Recently I have been messing around with Twitter, the social media site of the day (shameless plug: see me as warnerthuston on Twitter). So, checking out some of the Old Media to see what they were saying about Twitter, I ran across Time Magazine’s attempt to seem cool with the Twitterers, er Twitterists, er Twits, er whatever they are called. Time was following some “Tweets From a Washington Dinner” and I found something amusing there. Time, you see, added the Tweet from a guy claiming to be a John McCain adviser that was outed as a fraud months ago; Martin Eisenstadt.

You will recall that this fake Martin Eisenstadt was the same nonexistent fellow that fooled the media for weeks into thinking he was part of the McCain campaign for president. This Martin Eisenstadt even pretended to be a “Senior Fellow of the Harding Institute for Freedom and Democracy.” But it was finally revealed that this Martin Eisenstadt was really a liberal named Eitan Gorlin. But it didn’t come to light before he was quoted by several Old Media news outlets as a legitimate McCain adviser.

Noblesse Oblige? The One Wants His OWN Star Trek Showing

-By Warner Todd Huston

I Know Spock, Mr. Obama. You are no Spock.

I suppose if I was the ruler of the free world, I’d want it too. I mean, if I controlled all I survey, if the nation bowed before me, if the illiterati gave an obedient chuckle at my every quip, yet paused thoughtfully at my pretensions at seriousness, if the world placed me on my rightful pedestal, I’d imagine that the producers of the hottest new movie premiering this month would be similarly overawed that I’d like to see their little film.

Certainly, were I the Übermensch-in-chief, I’d also imagine that these same film producers couldn’t possibly expect me to go to a public theater and be forced to sit with the “people” to see this flick, of course. I’d know that the film’s creators and stars would have the good sense not to expect me to have to sit among the sweaty, loud, unschooled masses, that great unwashed. These filmmakers are smart folks, after all I would know.

So, were I the king of the world, I too would give Paramount Pictures a call and demand that they set up a free, personal screening in my super cool movie house built especially for the president.

I was on CNN.com Today

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, I had an interesting afternoon. Got a call from CNN that they needed a second righty blogger for their 12:30 Blogger’s Call segment on their livestream CNN.com show. (I know, enemy territory, right? Ha, ha)

So, they called me at about 10:45 and I had a little time to get my video and audio all set up before I went live with them. It was a segment with four bloggers (two rightys, two leftys) and we talked with anchors Reggie and Mam about Obama’s first 100 days.

We were all asked to grade Obama. Of course, I gave him a “D.” My chief complaint was how badly he’s bungled foreign policy by giving Chavez such a great propaganda moment at our expense and his cockup with the Brits. I also said his socialist policies are going to be bad for the long run. Etc., etc.

I don’t think there is video of it as it was all live, but I had a good time and look forward to being called back sometime in the future.

Washington Times Quotes me on Talk Radio

-By Warner Todd Huston

Just a quick note to let you all know that the Washington Times has again included me in one of their stories. On Thursday, writer Jennifer Harper was kind enough to contact me for my comments on the issue of the recent release of the Talkers Magazine “2008 Heavy Hundred” talk radio host rating list.

In a piece headlined “Conservatives top talk radio”, Harper gave me two paragraphs on the subject.

Though spelling my name wrong (but correcting it on the Net version), I was still happy to be of help. The piece was an interesting little read.

Thanks again to the Washington Times and Jennifer Harper.
