AP Looking to Stop Unauthorized Internet Usage?

-By Warner Todd Huston

When you visit a blog and read a report taking the Associated Press to task for its continuous leftward bias, are you reading “stolen” AP content, or are you reading legitimate news? Is criticism of AP’s work fair use? What is “fair use,” anyway? Could the AP sue critics?

These questions might be on the AP’s radar if a recent report in The New York Times is any indication. AP is attempting to create new policies to govern who uses AP content and where it is used. The APs attention to these issues could have long range impact on blogs and newsfeeds on the Internet.

Thus far, the actual policies and goals for how the AP will tackle this aspect of its business have not been determined. Are they going to take on the definition of “fair use” to court? Is the AP going to go after any particular agency or news site for what it considers unauthorized use?

ACORN/NY Times/Obama Campaign Story: Some Details Not as Reported

-By Warner Todd Huston

My exclusive interview with ACORN whistleblower Anita MonCrief

On April 4 I wrote about the testimony of Heather Heidelbaugh who appeared before Congress to speak about the various shady, if not criminal, actions perpetrated by ACORN (the Association of Community Activists for Reform Now) and its Project Vote offshoot over the last few years — and especially during the late campaign for the White House. There was vote fraud and financial misdealings galore and it was all perpetrated by a group intimately tied to presidential candidate Barack Obama. Not only that, but it seemed the Old Media was trying to cover it up.

That testimony has been the talk of the country since the end of March. But, as the story has progressed, some of the details that have been accepted as fact have turned out not to be true. It’s high time some of these misconceptions be cleared up.

There are fallacies about this case both big and small knocking about the pundocracy. TV pundit Bill O’Reilly, for instance, recently wrote an Op Ed with the misinformation that ACORN whistleblower Anita Moncreif had testified before Congress. MonCrief, however, did not testify before Congress (her information had merely been read into the record by Heidelbaugh).

CNN: Obama Advisor Attacks Cheney: Not a ‘Statesman’ (But Seems to Forget Al Gore’s Attacks on Bush)

-By Warner Todd Huston

Video Below Fold

It is always interesting to see the Democratic pot calling the Republican kettle black and here we have only the latest example of that with Obama’s top advisor attacking former Vice President Dick Cheney for his outspoken position on the failures of the Obama administration’s early efforts in office. But, even as advisor David Axelrod was attacking Cheney, there didn’t seem to be any memory on the part of CNN or Axelrod of the wild-eyed, fire-breathing attacks made by former Vice President Al Gore on President George W. Bush in the years after the 2000 election.

On CNN’s State of the Union with host John King, David Axelrod scolded Dick Cheney for not behaving like a “statesman” over the former vp’s statements that the country is becoming less safe because of Obama’s policies.

Do We Restrict Peanuts Because 100 People a Year Die from Allergy?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Here is the nanny state at its most ridiculous. Healthies — people that obsess about health — are on the march in Madison, Wisconsin trying to get the state government to ban people from feeding peanuts to squirrels on the state Capitol grounds. It’s a state emergency, ya know? Why these casually discarded peanuts could just maybe affect a child that has an allergy. We MUST ban the evil peanut to SAVE THE CHILDREN!

One would think that people are dropping dead every 5 seconds from peanut allergies with all this energy and focus directed against that monstrous Mr. Peanut. You would think that this important health effort would save uncounted lives, wouldn’t you?

Maybe not.

The AP Thinks Palin Teen’s Romance Woes is News?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Is it some sort of amazing, newsworthy revelation that teen romance is sometimes a rocky road? Is it news that family can be troublesome when it results in out-of-wedlock birth? The Associated Press seems to think it is, at least if one of those teens is Governor Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol.

Do you care that punk Levi Johnston is bawling to the press that Governor Palin is supposedly a controlling Grandmother? Especially in light of the fact that this kid is an uneducated, immature, unserious lout? Well, if YOU don’t the AP sure as heck does.

This time we have punk Johnston whining that Grandma Palin is a bit cross with him and closely watches him when he is with the baby. All I can say is, can you blame her? I wouldn’t think much of a grandmother that let’s a jobless, high school dropout have unsupervised visits with a child he casually fathered without regard for his girlfriend’s future or family. Would you?

But, on the other hand. I just can’t find a reason to care about Levi OR Bristol.

CAGW’s 2008 Pig Book Released!

-By Warner Todd Huston

Citizens Against Government Waste is announcing the release of the 2008 Pig Book.

The Congressional Pig Book (download in pdf format) is CAGW’s annual compilation of the pork-barrel projects in the federal budget. The 2008 Pig Book identified 11,610 projects at a cost of $17.2 billion in the 12 Appropriations Acts for fiscal 2008. A “pork” project is a line-item in an appropriations bill that designates tax dollars for a specific purpose in circumvention of established budgetary procedures. To qualify as pork, a project must meet one of seven criteria that were developed in 1991 by CAGW and the Congressional Porkbusters Coalition.

The latest installment of Citizens Against Government Waste’s (CAGW) 18-year exposé of pork-barrel spending includes $3,000,000 for The First Tee; $1,950,000 for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service; and $188,000 for the Lobster Institute in Maine.

In fiscal year 2008, Congress stuffed 11,610 projects (the second highest total ever) into the 12 appropriations bills worth $17.2 billion. The 11,610 projects represent a 337 percent increase over the 2,658 projects in fiscal year 2007. The $17.2 billion is a 30 percent increase over the fiscal year 2007 total of $13.2 billion. Only the Defense and Homeland Security bills included earmarks in fiscal year 2007, so comparisons of other bills are made between fiscal years 2008 and 2006. Total pork identified by CAGW since 1991 adds up to $271 billion.

Visit the CAGW site to read a longer summary of the wasteful, pork spending perpetrated by Congress in 2008.

Paper Tigers

-By Dan Scott

The world can be a dangerous place and even more so when we fail to understand the motivations of the various actors on the world stage. Recently, North Korea (DPRK) has provoked the world yet again with the launching of another alleged missile over Japan. For well over a month there was an uproar over the impending launch with warnings and counter warnings. The US threatened to shoot the missile down and the DPRK said shooting their satellite down would be an act of war thus the line was drawn in the sand, each side daring and doubling daring each other. The DPRK claims it was a satellite and most of the world says it was a missile. The DPRK launches and says the satellite is harmlessly orbiting the earth broadcasting patriotic songs but the US says it shot the third stage down. So whose truth (sarcasm intended) do we believe? I guess that depends on the most probable believable story. The US has already demonstrated it can either shoot down a missile in flight or a satellite in orbit. Given the anti-war stances of President Obama, would he risk war with the DPRK in shooting down a missile? Given the Dear Leader’s cushy little spot in power would he risk finding himself in the same position as Saddam Hussein??? The Dear Leader is no slouch in world affairs, after all he got Madeline Albright to play basketball! Maybe the most believable story is the dummy load fell into the Pacific Ocean instead of achieving orbit and Obama never gave the order to shoot down the alleged missile. So both the Dear Leader and President Obama claim victory and war was averted, works for both of them doesn’t it?

For those who don’t know the Dear Leader, I am speaking of Kim Jong-IL, the dictator of North Korea. Under his and his father’s rule, the people of North Korea have been reduced to abject poverty to the point even the city lights at night don’t up on satellite pictures save for his capitol Pyungyang. He is known to his people as the “Dear Leader”. His activities include: the production and distribution of narcotics as well as the counterfeiting of foreign currencies, cigarettes, and pharmaceuticals. To give you the full understanding of this man’s idea of truth, North Korea is formally known as the DPRK – Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea.

NYT Columnist: ‘Dark and Dangerous’ Conservatives Attack Obama (Did He Miss BDS for Last 8 Yrs?)

-By Warner Todd Huston

Sometimes you just have to laugh at the Pauline Kael-like left. It seems that leftists in America are either mentally stunted or living in such an enclosed, bubble-world that they cannot discern reality from their own fantasy. Such is the case with the faux shock expressed by one Chuck Blow (presumably his real name) from The New York Times whose latest article is filled with the horror that some on the American right might not wish much success for a president of the United States. One must laugh at this man’s alarm and wonder if he missed the last eight years where Bush, Cheney — and at the end, even today, Palin — were hung in effigy, where the past president was wished a long and torturous death, and where the left wanted untold horrors visited upon them and all Americans that support Republicans?

Charles’ sudden awakening to the passion that politics brings is amusing if only to the extent that it is so empty of any introspection. It is hilarious that Chuck only just now had his eyes opened to enflamed political rhetoric and talk of the grave concerns for this country by many millions of his fellow Americans. Sad, in the end, that this guy thinks such vitriol has only just now come from the American right as if born fully grown and never-before-seen.

Chuck must surely have been in a coma since the year 1999.

Muslims Try to Shut Down Property Rights of Tennessee Neighbor

-By Warner Todd Huston

Trevor Hill owns what was once a blighted, rundown building in Knoxville, Tennessee. Hill has upgraded and repaired the building and built a restaurant there that he’s christened The Hill restaurant. It’s a full service restaurant and that means it is to serve alcohol. And that last fact seems to be causing a conflict with the folks that own the neighboring building: the Anoor mosque.

Apparently one of the mosque board members, Nadeem Sidiqqi, is upset that an American property owner could possibly serve alcohol in his own business. Sidiqqi thinks he should be able to tell the owner of The Hill restaurant that he shouldn’t be allowed to serve alcohol so close to his mosque. He thinks that the city should invent a law that would mandate a “buffer zone” so that his religious tenets can be enforced on his neighbors. Sidiqqi wants to prevent neighboring property owners from doing as they wish with their own property.

So, is this America or Saudi Arabia?

NYTimes: Obama’s Economic Ideas Great… Just Like Hitler’s Were?

-By Warner Todd Huston

For The New York Times economic scene section for March 31, David Leonhardt came across with one of the most amazing admissions about Obama that I’ve ever seen in the Times. Namely that Barack Obama is just like Hitler. Now, many of you may be solemnly shaking your head in agreement, but in so doing you would be missing why the Times was comparing Obama to Hitler. You see, Leonhardt didn’t mean it as an insult. He was saying that it was a good thing that Barack was being like Hitler at least in an economic sense.

Here Leonhardt is taking the trains-on-time track with his Hitler angle by saying that, despite that whole Holocaust and World War II business, Hitler’s policies were good for Germany. So good, in fact, that he celebrates the ways he sees that Obama is emulating the mustachioed mad-man’s economic prescriptions with the massive takeover of the economy and bloated government spending on “stimulus.”

You know the left has lost it when they are invoking the “success” of Hitler to prop up The One!

AP Uses Dem Operative to Slam Palin, But IDs Him Simply as ‘Professor’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Don’t you love it when the Old Media dredges up some partisan hack Democrat supporter and presents them as an “expect” that is never identified as a partisan political hack? Well, you may not love it, but it sure seems to happen an awful lot. And here we see another example of that lame bias by our old friend Anne Sutton, an AP writer that is renown for her hit pieces on Governor Palin and her family.

This AP piece is supposedly describing “Sarah Palin’s Bad Week,” in which mountains are made of molehills over and over again. Little of this “report” is of note but one thing does stand out. That would be the quoting by writer Sutton of Ross Baker. Baker is described as a “political science professor ” from Rutgers University (New Jersey) and is featured saying how bad things are for Palin these days.

I Am A Tired American

-By Warner Todd Huston

I am tired of many things going on today, things that seem designed to undermine and destroy our great country. Certainly, we all have the right to express our opinions and, naturally, every American holding any particular ideology will see things that do not correspond to his idea of the “real America” at any given time. It is right and good that we, as citizens, should seek to make the changes we think necessary to make our country strong. We can all agree that people of intelligence and integrity might agree to disagree, but there are some things about a country that, when abandoned or abruptly changed, creates a place markedly different than what it was previously.

These sorts of seminal changes in the fabric of a nation should only be undertaken when that fabric is rotten even to its core. There have been bad spots of America that had to be surgically removed, we all know. But the core of this nation, despite its blemishes, is not now and never has been rotten.

And so I am tired of the many people who are native to this country that want to destroy what it is to make it into what it isn’t, never was, and cannot be. If we wish this country to be as great into the future as it has been in the past this self-destructive behavior must be stopped.

Suddenly One Morning, Tyranny

Imagine waking up one morning prepared to do your daily Bible study and discovering that Exodus Chapter 20 had been completely erased. The Ten Commandments were missing. Of course, you would wonder what possibly could have happened.

You then become panicked as you quickly turn to the New Testament, only to discover that the Sermon on the Mount had vanished as well. The verse about loving one’s enemy was gone. Even the Golden Rule had disappeared. Upon closer examination, you discover that every guideline concerning living a better way of life was gone.

Reuters Knowingly Reports Lie About Binghamton Shooting — The Taliban Did It

-By Warner Todd Huston

Reuters published a story today, April 4, detailing some nonsense from a Taliban terrorist who has claimed “responsibility” for Friday’s shooting rampage in Binghamtom, New York. The question that comes to mind is why? Why did Reuters imagine this idiotic claim, this obvious lie, was worth reporting to the world? Does Reuters not have the good sense God gave a door knob? Why would Reuters pass this Taliban propaganda off as news?

From Peshawar, Pakistan, Reuters reports that this Taliban leader wannabe has said that the murderous rampage perpetrated by an unhinged Vietnamese immigrant was done by his “men.” This half-wit terrorist claims that he ordered the “men” to attack the U.S. because of the use of Predator drones that have been so successful in cutting out so many of those nits in their Pakistani strongholds.

But we all know this “acceptance of responsibility” is an outright lie. We may not know why Jiverly Voong went off the deep end, but we know he had zilch to do with Pakistan. So, why did Reuters think it a story worthy of reporting? There can only be one reason.

Canadian Parents Fooled Into Raising Prostitutes

-By Warner Todd Huston

Canada, oh Canada. What the heck happened to ya? I suppose it is nothing more mundane than that our northern neighbor has succumbed to the same sort of nihilism that western culture in general is slouching toward. Two recent stories in the Canadian press could not illustrate better the depths being plumbed by Canadian society–and by extension our own.

The first purports to be parenting advice perpetrated on Canada by one Adriana Barton of the Globe and Mail. In this woeful homage to the newest sort of Dr. Spokian abdication of parenting, Barton tells Canadian parents that “consensual living” is a far better way to rear a child than exerting parental authority.

After reading Barton’s piece, though, one gets the distinct feeling that this “new” idea of “consensual living” allows willful children to control the parent. It is “non-hierarchical”–meaning the parents have no authority, apparently–and is supposedly based upon “understanding each other’s feelings,” trumpets Barton.

Brendan Steinhuser of FreedomWorks is reporting that another official of an American city is trying to prevent organizers of a tea party tax protest from being “allowed” to stage their protest, this time in Burleson, Texas.

Unlike the the situation in Cape Coral, Florida where it was overburdening regulation that served as a stumbling block to the freedom of the people to assemble, the Texas case proves to be more un-American because it is an unelected city official that is vowing to block the tax protest by abusing his insider power to cajole city officials to deny American’s their rights..

Is Hillary Clinton the Rodney Dangerfield of the Obama Administration?

-By Ann “Babe” Huggett

Comedian and vaguely funny guy, Rodney Dangerfield, may be fast fading from our collective cultural memory but his tag line of, “I get no respect!” should be engraved over Hillary Clinton’s office door in the State Department. Expecting to be the power behind the Obama throne, Hillary gamely accepted her position of Secretary of State thinking that her former aides now infesting the current administration and the covertly leftist State Department would rally round her and not their new darling, Barack Obama.

Well, surprise, surprise! Hillary not only calculated wrongly but is constantly humiliated by savage, Chicago machine political egos even more petty and calculating than hers. From sending her out of the country on useless junkets to Upper Revolta and Cheapistan to watching her screw up royally through symbolic language gaffes with the Russians or displaying cultural ignorance in Mexico while viewing the iconic Virgin of Guadalupe painting, the ship of State, U.S.S. Clinton is sinking fast.

AP Scolds Republicans for ‘Noncompliance’ Over Stimulus $… But is There Any?

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Associated Press did a masterful job of portraying Republican Governors as perpetrating “noncompliance” for how they want to spend Obama’s education stimulus money. But, even as the AP spends the top half of a story wagging fingers at those nasty Republicans for not spending Obama’s generous gift the right way, buried in the story it is revealed that the fault is really with how the stimulus bill was written, not in how GOP governors wish to spend it. Ah, but it’s much better to make Republicans look like bad guys than it is to blame Democrat Congressmen for writing a bad bill, isn’t it?

Even worse, the point AP is trying to promulgate is that these evil governors are hurting “the children” by not spending on education the way Obama says they should. Yes, the AP and the Obama administration are again hiding massive increases in federal control behind help for “the children.” It’s agenda journalism at its finest… or worst, depending on your point of view.

Who the Heck Elected YOU?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Who the Heck Elected YOU, anyway? Whether it be among friends or family, we’ve all heard that phrase tossed about by someone who found his pet idea left by the wayside. It’s a question of “official” authority, in most cases. Say your friends get together for a movie, say you make a film choice and everyone begins to agree. But there’s always that one guy that doesn’t agree with your movie choice. He wants to go somewhere else and when he finds no one siding with him he asks in frustration who elected you to make the decision? After all, there was no election so why did you get to make the movie choice over his druthers? It’s easy to laugh off that frustration in most cases and settle for a community decision among friends. But it is another thing when that concept is applied to decisions made by government placemen and appointees. And it’s even worse when our tax money is spent by the billions because of the requirements imposed by government workers unions that the polity did not elect to have the power to spend our money.

And we are seeing this illicit decision making by unelected union bosses grow at exponential rates these days. Take for instance the trouble that Governor John Corzine of New Jersey is having. His state budget is wildly over allocated and he’s decided to lay off some government workers to save precious cash, cash, it should be remembered, that IS the people’s tax money. This is a move that every business is confronted with at some time or another. When times are flush and a lot of work is in the offing, business hires. But when times get tight and the need for workers flails, unnecessary employees are let go. It’s a fact of life that cannot be avoided. Oh, but not government! Once you get a government job it is, for some unexplainable reason, assumed to be a permanent job.

Getting Rid of Toxic Congressmen

-By John Armor

The mantra today is that we must get the toxic assets out of the banks and other financial institutions. That way, the banks will be on a sound footing, going forward. That may or may not be true. But, who are the experts assuring us that various steps are needed, now?

Well, two key people in this process are Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass) and Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn.). Barney Frank had a sexual relationship with the federal official in charge of new products from Fannie Mae. Those new products were the bundled toxic assets that collapsed and started the meltdown.

Frank also accepted large contributions from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac sources. And he was saying in Congress that these government-created corporations were “sound” just before the bottom fell out of the financial markets. Lastly, Frank has been at the head of the pitchfork and torches brigade, marching up the hill towards the AIG castle.

New York Times Killed Stories of Obama’s Links to Vote Fraud/ACORN During Campaign

-By Warner Todd Huston

To the NYT it’s news that ain’t “fit to print” if it involves Obama’s criminal pals.

According to election fraud lawyer Heather Heidelbaugh, The New York Times decided suddenly to drop all efforts last October to publish stories about the Association for Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) because it came to light that ACORN was a big donor to then presidential candidate Barack Obama’s campaign. The Times is said to have told ACORN insider Anita Moncrief that they were dropping the story because it was a “game changer” for the election and might hurt Obama’s campaign.

Heidelbaugh, who worked for the Penn. Republican State Committee in a vote fraud lawsuit against ACORN, told a House Judiciary subcommittee on March 19 that she had found a close link between ACORN, Project Vote and the Obama campaign through the inside information from former ACORN worker Anita Moncrief.

A Chicken in Every Pothole

-By Warner Todd Huston

Kentucky Fried Chicken has been making a tour of America’s big cities trying to get those towns to allow them, KFC, to fill the many thousands of potholes pockmarking our roads left over from this past harsh winter.

But it isn’t just community spirit motivating the fast food, fried chicken giant. They want to spray paint KFC logos on top of every pothole they pay to fill. It’s all a matter of advertising.

But I say, so what? Let them get their advertising. If they want to kick their ad money into a mutually beneficial arrangement with the cities, so what?

Personally, I’d rather see a chicken in every pothole than to see my axle snapped in two every time I head down a city street.

That and I was itching to say “a chicken in every pothole.” It is a play on words that I just couldn’t resist.

AP Confuses Criticism of Obama With ‘Racial Slurs’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Proving that the left cannot tell the difference between “racism” and “criticism,” the AP posted a lengthy March 30 story confusing and conflating the two as it pertains to attacks on President Obama. As far as the AP is concerned it seems the whole country is running around with burning crosses and wearing pointy hoods aiming to cast racial epithets at Obama at every turn. It may as well still be the year 1860 around here.

The AP starts its piece by informing the reader that “racial slurs continue” against the president “despite” his “historic achievement.” But the main problem with the piece is that much of the report details political attacks that aren’t really racial in nature but are instead just those normal sorts of political attacks we see against any president. Granted they are tailored for Obama (like his citizenship and religion questions) but they aren’t really “racial” attacks per se. Still, the AP illegitimately lumps any and all attacks against Obama under the rubric of “racial slurs.”

Why not fire UAW union Chief too?

-By Warner Todd Huston

From Fox

In forcing the resignation of General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner, President Obama said he was seeking a fresh start, a “new vision and new direction,” for the beleaguered automaker.

But some critics are questioning why the president of the United Auto Workers union didn’t meet the same fate, to signal a fresh start on the other side of the bargaining table.

Even though UAW President Ron Gettelfinger argues that his workers have made significant concessions in recent years, critics say Gettelfinger should have gone the way of Wagoner — whose ouster could be seen as the final judgment for GM’s pursuit of gas-guzzling SUVs at a time when foreign manufacturers were winning over their customers with fuel-efficient cars.

Excellent question! Why is union thug Gettlefenagler allowed to keep his job? After all, he is just a guilty for the destruction of GM as Wagoner is!

Without question unions are one of the bigger parts of the problem in Detroit. So why is Barry O not doing the same to Guiltleflinger as he is to Wagoner? Why are we the people firing CEOs but not union chiefs that are responsible for their own part of the destruction of the business?

Ah, but we KNOW the answer there, don’t we? Obama will NEVER hold his pals in unions accountable for their criminal destruction of the American economy. It’s only those eeeevil capitalists at fault, you see? Barry will never accept fault on behalf of government incompetence and union thuggery.

Must be nice to have a powerful apologist in the White House, eh? Too bad the taxpayers don’t have anyone in the White House that cares about them.

Democrats Prove That Rooting Out Corruption Doesn’t Interest Them

Unless they can be used as weapons when Republicans are in power, ethics and corruption investigations are not interesting to Democrats.

During the final years of Bush’s presidency, the House Oversight Committee was abuzz with activity as Democrats used the power of the committee and it’s generous budget to “get” President Bush. Chairman Henry Waxman used the power of his committee chairmanship to subpoena Bush administration officials at the drop of a hat and his committee was deemed indispensable by Democrats for holding government accountable.

That was then.
