Union Leader Becomes Speaker of Conn. House

-By Warner Todd Huston

It was just announced this week that representative Chris Donovan (D, Meriden, CT) is the next Speaker of the Connecticut House of Representatives. What makes this a strike against good government is that Donovan is a former member of the Service Employees International Union. (Donovan info and further bio)

So, we have a former union leader (and former as only having left union leadership a short time ago) now stepping into the role of Speaker of the House where his former colleagues in the unions will be lobbying him for favorable legislation and other goodies.

Roland will fit right in

-By Michael M. Bates

Senate majority leader Harry Reid can be such a tease. On Sunday, the Nevada Democrat suggested that Illinois Gov. Blagojevich’s appointment of Roland Burris to replace The One in what is facetiously called the world’s greatest deliberative body might not be welcomed with open arms.

In his trademark high-pitched voice that thrills Canine-Americans everywhere, Reid said of Burris’s becoming a senator: “It’s going to be very difficult for that to occur.” Then, realizing that his statement could possibly offend felons or other core Democratic constituencies, he backed off slightly with “I’ve learned, being a senator for the time I have, that anything can happen.”

That someone like Reid is the Senate majority leader is corroboration of how right he is.

Keynes’s Wrong-Turn Hypothesis

-By Thomas E. Brewton

As Keynes observed, people often unknowingly are the prisoners of erroneous doctrine propounded by long dead theoreticians, in this case doctrine of Keynes himself.

I have noted before that Wall Street Journal news reporters often display pervasive, sometimes subtle, liberal-progressive-socialist biases. Unlike the Journal’s editorial board writers, among other things, they still parrot the nonsense popularized by economist John Maynard Keynes during the 1930s Depression.

Since Keynesian economics is the reigning school of thought in socialistic academia, it’s no surprise that Keynesian nostrums are repeated, without evaluation, by today’s reporters.

One example is in the Journal article titled The Doomsayers Who Got It Right.

The Journal reporter writes:

NY Rep. Eric Massa, From Fuel Cell to Fool Sell

-By Warner Todd Huston

The newly sworn-in Democratic Representative from New York’s 29th District, Eric Massa, has apparently made a fuel of himself… and of those that elected him. And the amusing thing is he did it on the way to his swearing in ceremony. No waiting to actually take office for Massa. No, this man thinks BIG!

With great fanfare from local and regional media, Massa announced that he would drive a GM Hydrogen fuel cell car to Washington to “highlight new industries” and green fuel technologies. It was supposed to be a feels good move to garner the new Congressman some face time on TV and the golly-gee-wows of the country.

Then reality came a’knockin.’

LATimes Prints Hamas Terrorist’s Op Ed

-By Warner Todd Huston

Amazingly, on January 6, the L. A. Times gave ample space to a Hamas terrorist to “explain” how the current Gaza action is all Israel’s fault. Mousa Abu Marzook the purported “deputy of the political bureau of Hamas,” the group called an “Islamic Resistance Movement,” shamefacedly claims that Israel’s actions shattered “any incentive by Palestinian leaders to enforce the moratorium on rocket fire.”

First of all, these Palestinian “leaders” have for the last seven years now expended little effort to stop the incessant rocket fire into Israel to which he so blithely refers. So I don’t know who this Marzook fellow is trying to kid? I suppose he’s trying to kid the L.A.Times and it seems they have fallen for it.

The truce thus shattered, any incentive by Palestinian leaders to enforce the moratorium on rocket fire was gone. Any extension of the agreement or improvement of its implementation at that point would have required Israel to engage Hamas, to agree to additional trust-building measures and negotiation with our movement — a political impossibility for Israel, with its own elections only weeks away.

Israel has been trying to engage in “trust-building” with the various and sundry Palestinian groups for decades. It is the Palestinians that have steadfastly maintained that Israel has no right to even exist. How is it that “trust-building” can occur when one side simply wants the other dead?

SEIU Prez DID Meet With Corrupt Ill. Governor

-By Warner Todd Huston

When States Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald announced the investigation of the pay-to-play scandal centered around Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich there came to light a meeting between Blago and a top officer of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). There was no indication of what the meeting was about and at fist no one knew who the SEIU representative was.

Later it came out that Blago met with Tom Balanoff, president of the Ill. chapter of the SEIU. This was blown off as of little importance ever since. However, now it has been learned that the president of the SEIU, Andy Stern himself, also met with Blago during the period of time that Blago was trying to sell Obama’s Senate seat.

The Good Old Days

-By Dan Scott

The more we hear Obama and Pelosi talk of government stimulus projects to jump start the economy, it seems they are attempting to recreate the conditions of the Great Depression for their own political gain. It should be noted that the outcome of the Great Depression in political terms was the Democrat Party holding control of the House and Senate for nearly 50 years until 1994 when the Contract With America brought on end to their hegemony. The public was finally fed up with the never ending spend thrift ways of a Democrat controlled Congress. Actually, it’s uncanny how the Democrats are playing their cards to faithfully reproduce FDR’s policies. History tells us that FDR was popular for the very fact that he by the public view seemed to be doing something constructive upholding the line “we must doing something”, even if what he was doing was in reality self defeating by robbing the economy of investment capital through taxes and borrowing. For appearances sake, digging ditches and the like were visible to all and thus gave the false impression people were working. A recession is in the Democrat’s political best interest, it doesn’t matter who gets hurt in the process.

Socialism when viewed in the context of history always it seems focuses upon keeping people working. The Chinese, the Russians and others always kept people busy with some task as though going through the motions was an all important end in itself. Unemployment was abolished under the Communist system since everyone worked for the state as they defined success in terms of full employment and factory production output, not GDP, profit, efficiency or the quality of the goods and services. In other words, their system was focused on maintaining the status quo, not increasing the standard of living or wealth creation. John Maynard Keyes was heard to say, we can employ one group of people to dig holes and another group to fill them up to give them spending money in their pockets. (sound vaguely familiar?) While few rational people will disagree that work in and of itself is good for character and a person’s self worth, work must have tangible results to have any meaningful effect in this regard. Which brings us to the fatal flaw of the Democrat’s stimulus plan, it’s definition of success. Modern day Democrats are only a little more sophisticated than those of the 1930s in that their proposed make work jobs program will build something overpriced that may be useful like road improvement (repair) projects, mass transit, school modernization, etc. Their definition of success like the Communists and Socialists is the appearance of full employment and maintaining the status quo to keep up with the cost of living, not increasing the standard of living via wealth creation as reflected in rising GDP, profit, efficiency or the quality of goods and services. Every job in the private sector exists for one primary purpose, wealth creation – profit. Every job in the government sector goes to one primary purpose, consumption – a zero net gain, if it were not so then Cuba, where virtually everyone works for the government, would be the richest country on earth, it’s not even close.

APB For One Rahm Emanuel

-By Warner Todd Huston

Washington has issued an APB for former Representative and putative Chief of staff for the Obama White House Rahm Emanual. Emanuel is 5′ 7″ tall, slight of build and has salt and pepper hair. He is known to cuss like a sailor. He was last seen on December 12th claiming he is getting “death threats” over his multiple meetings with corrupt Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.

Emanuel has been known to hang around with several unsavory characters in the past. It is commonly known that Emanuel has been a close confidant to impeached presidents and senators that have experienced intense sniper fire in Bosnia.

If anyone has seen or heard from Rahm Emanuel, please alert the media. Apparently they have forgotten he exists.

That is all.

Ex-aide: Saddam would not have allowed Gaza raid, NOW We’ve Done it!

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Associated Press today posted a story that is so utterly pointless for its very existence that it boggles the mind. Apparently, some loser Iraqi that used to be a somebody under Saddam Hussein’s viciously murderous government has issued a “tape” whereupon he says that Israel would never have been so bold to have hit Gaza they way it has if Saddam were still in power.

Of course, the very first question that comes to mind is… WHO CARES what some has been cutthroat has to say about Saddam “just hangin’ around” Hussein? The man is dead, D-E-D dead!

I mean, why the heck is this news? It would be like publishing a story in this week’s New York Times about some guy that is saying that all this Obama stuff wouldn’t be happening if Jefferson Davis was still in power. Yes, it would be just as newsworthy as that!

Here is the full (or should I say fool) AP report:

Media Pumping Obama: Best Dresser, Breakthrough Election, Tough on Terror

-By Warner Todd Huston

In a like vein as the story I posted a few days ago showing Reuters helping cover for Obama by lowering expectations, a trio of stories — two from McClatchy and one from the AP — prove to be little more than empty Obama boostering with little worth as news, though the AP piece at least comes close to being newsworthy. Unfortunately, this is the sort of empty reporting that has become du jour for the Old Media. It’s the media’s covering for the Clinton’s all over again, yet 10-times more intense.

The first story is the most frivolous. It is a McClatchy story about how great Obama dresses. In “Review: Obama’s fashion sense is cool but correct,” we are regaled about what a fashion plate The One is.

ACORN Abusing the Elderly

-By Warner Todd Huston

As a result of more ACORN voter fraud, the AP is reporting another ACORN employee charged with fraud this time in Missouri.

Charges of Voter-Registration Fraud

A woman has been charged in federal court with submitting false information on Missouri voter-registration cards, including turning in cards from nursing home residents without their knowledge. Deidra Humphrey of East St. Louis, Ill., faces two felony counts of voter-registration fraud. U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway’s office said Humphrey, 44, worked for ACORN and the Missouri Progressive Vote Coalition from June to August of last year.

Remember, ACORN (Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now) is the extremist Marxist organization spawned by the work of Saul Alinsky and home to Barack Obama as well as union organizations everywhere.

This sort of fraud and anti-Americanism is what Obama weaned himself on.

Team Sarah Website Attacked By Liberal Trolls

Looks like the underhanded, ill bred, uncouth left is at it again. E! Crum has a great piece explaining the situation…

-By Elizabeth Crum

Liberal Fascist Sock Puppets Busted at TeamSarah, Geoffry Dunn at HuffingtonPost Owes An Apology

Both The Weekly Standard and Victor Morton at Inside Blogitics – a weekly column devoted to blog politics in the Plugged-In section of the Washington Times – picked up this story about online posers, well, posing as conservative Team Sarah site members – “sock puppets” – and then deliberately posting nasty, racist comments in order to make the whole site and its founders look bad.

And, to add insult to injury, Geoffrey Dunn of the HuffingtonPost jumped in the fray and alleged that the TeamSarah site was “ugly” in its practice of “mean-spirited bigotry” and “nastiness.” Seems to me it would be appropriate for Mr. Dunn to post a retraction and an apology. (I don’t see one yet.)

Obama’s Inauguration Sold to Highest Bidder, TV Not This Excited Since Clinton in ‘93

-By Warner Todd Huston

Reuters has a January 7 Hollywood Reporter story informing the world that “HBO lands rights to inaugural ceremony,” but this raises the question; why are parts of the inauguration being auctioned to the highest bidder for exclusive coverage? Shouldn’t all of the inauguration be something for every American and not relegated just for the TV station that has the most cash? Why is this vaunted man of the people allowing exclusive coverage of his big day to go to a station not available to all Americans equally?

It makes one wonder if the Democrat’s claims of being interested in equality and fairness is all but hot air when the money is hitting the table?

HBO is claiming that they will offer the program for free, not pay-per-view, and that it will be broadcast to folks without the HBO channel on their cable service. But it will still be just on cable. Naturally, for those without cable at all, well, these people are out of luck. So much for Obama’s big day being for ALL the people. I guess it’s only for those with cable.

Denver Post Removes ‘The Lord’ From Burris Story

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Denver Post seems to have decided that “the Lord” should not be allowed in its paper. In a January 5 report about Illinois Senator wannabe Roland Burris, the unwelcome Burris is quoted by the AP as saying “the Lord” had “ordained” that he get his Senate seat. At 3AM the Post had the full religious quote featured on its site, yet by 8PM the religious reference was purged from the story. One wonders why reference to the Lord was scrubbed from the report?

The report by David Espo of the Associated Press originally quoted Burris as saying that, “We are hoping and praying that they will not be able to deny what the Lord has ordained.” Obviously, Burris is convinced that God wants him to be a Senator. (The full AP report with the religious reference can be seen here.)

AP: No Experience in new CIA Chief Somehow Shows Obama’s ‘Clean Break from Bush Administration’?

-By Warner Todd Huston

To paraphrase Forrest Gump, Inexperienced is as inexperienced does. At least that is what comes to my mind when hearing that Barack Obama has picked the inoffensive, completely inexperienced and unqualified Leon Panetta to be the new director of the CIA. Really. Leon Panetta? The onetime director of the Office of Management and Budget Panetta, that Leon Panetta? This old Clinton partisan has absolutely no experience whatsoever with intelligence gathering or the administration of the same. None. Zip. Nadda.

Now, if George W. Bush had picked such an inexperienced man for any government position much less one at cabinet level, the media would have crucified him — in fact, it did if you recount the Harriet Meyers for SCOTUS debacle. So, in “Obama’s intel picks short on direct experience” does the Associated Press scoff at the pick? Do they lambast Obama for picking such a completely unqualified man for CIA in a day when we are besieged on all sides by enemies from whom our ability to gather intelligence is a major weapon of protection? Do they decry this pick of a man with not even the tiniest amount of experience for one of the most delicate and important positions of the day?

ABC: What Would Jesus Do? Why He’d Vote Obama, Of Course

-By Warner Todd Huston

The weekend edition of Good Morning America found a fellow that decided to try and live for one year “like Jesus would” but what host Bill Weir found keenly interesting is that this guy voted for Barack Obama because he felt that living like Jesus compelled him to do so. Weir also wondered if the Jesus emulator had to “forgive” his Christian community for any reaction they might have had over the fact that he voted for Barack.

Former pastor Ed Dobson of Grand Rapids, Michigan appeared on the weekend edition of GMA to briefly discuss his year of living like Jesus in a segment called “What Would Jesus Do?” Dobson talked about how hard it was to walk in Christ’s path and was shaken by having to forgive and bless the terrorists in Iraq that took the life via a roadside bomb of a soldier friend of his son.

But, Dobson’s vote for Barack Obama was an issue that GMA host Bill Weir was very interested in.

Deepak Chopra Peddles Metaphysical Swill

-By Frederick Meekins

In the 6/25/07 edition of U.S. News & World Report, New Age luminary Deepak Chopra was interviewed about his novel about Buddha interestingly titled “Buddha”. Though many will no doubt fawn all over this narrative in search of some new spiritual insight or revelation in much the same way as they did with “The Da Vinci Code” these past few years, however, it seems some of the answers provided by this guru renowned by millions had as much thought put to them as the titling of this novel.

When asked what he thought the meaning of enlightenment was, Chopra responded, “The meaning here is that your real self is not a person, that there is no such thing as a separate self, that a person doesn’t really exist…So enlightenment here means transcendence to that level of existence where the personal self becomes the universal self.”

CNN Lists Sarah Palin With 2008’s Criminals, Sex Addicts, and the Corrupt

-By Warner Todd Huston

**UPDATE**

Before we get into this op ed, I have to relate a bit of history first. I originally posted this on Sunday on my NewsBusters.org posting. It raged all day Sunday and into the night among Palin fans and center right bloggers. Lucianne.com, FreeRepublic and many other sites linked to the story. Gretta Van Susteren even posted about it on her FoxNews blog (It garnered 4 pages of comments there, too).

Well by the time Monday morning arrived, CNN quietly and without explanation or apology erased Sarah Palin from the article I describe below.

Showing they have no sense of morality, no grasp of corruption and no understanding of what defines a criminal, CNN gives us another one of those ubiquitous year in review stories, this one titled “Politicians who fell from grace in 2008.” In this one, CNN has decided to reveal for us their top eight politicians that found 2008 to be a “career-buster” because of their “crimes and misdemeanors” or their outrageous controversies.

CNN features corruption mired Rod Blagojevich, the sex crazed Elliot Spitzer and John Edwards, and the criminal bribe taker Ted Stevens among four others. Each of these men in the CNN list have either been convicted of criminal actions, are indicted for corruption, lost their positions, been drummed out of their party, or are soon to face jail time. Among these eight criminals, however, is a name that doesn’t belong among this class of serial abuser of the public trust. It won’t be shocking to note that among the worst sex criminals, bribe takers, liars and thieves in politics for 2008, CNN ridiculously included the name of Governor Sarah Palin.

MLK Jr.: Civil Rights Provided More Pay, Perks, and Prestige than Pastoring!

-By Don Boys, Ph.D.

After assuming the leadership of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1954, Martin Luther King shot to fame because of a local incident involving the local bus system. Rosa Parks, a black seamstress, refused to surrender her seat to a white person and was arrested on December 1, 1955. No one knows what motivated Rosa to refuse to surrender her seat, and she said that she had “no plot or plan.” Who knows? However, we do know that she was an officer in the local chapter of the NAACP and was trained at the Communist Highlander Folk School in Tennessee, and is in the famous photo along with King. Furthermore, we know that she and King corresponded four months before the boycott. Sounds like collusion to me. How about conspiracy? Or maybe she was simply tired.

King came to Rosa Parks’ support and on December 5, he was elected president of the Montgomery Improvement Association. King was now the official spokesman for a civil rights organization. Preaching would henceforth be relegated to the background. Of course, he always intended it to be. Social action was his game from the beginning. Moreover, King never challenged anyone to repent of sin and place personal faith in Christ! King used the church, the Bible, and the gullibility of Blacks to climb to power.

Lowering Expectations for Obama

-By Warner Todd Huston

Reuters ran a little flak for Barack Obama trying to help dull the outrageous expectations placed on The One by his irrationally exuberant adherents in theirs headlined “Congress faces historic challenges” — As if no other Congress has faced “historic challenges” before? Reuters assures us, though, that times are so bad that we should not expect Obama to live up to any of his outlandish promises. This way, of course, if Obama reneges on them, the Old Media can remind everyone that it’s really our fault for expecting too much, not Obama’s for reneging.

Naturally, we get the kind of Bush-is-worst rhetoric we expect from Reuters but we also find that Reuters seems to have forgotten that Congress itself has even lower ratings than does Bush. And Reuters starts off the story conveniently forgetting that the Democrats have controlled Congress since 2006.

Democrats will pack greater clout when the new Congress convenes on Tuesday but they face enormous expectations from voters as they grapple with two wars, a financial crisis and record budget deficits.

Yeah, “greater clout.” But they’ve been in control since 2006 and faced a weakened president to boot. But, have Congressional Democrats had no “expectations” since 2006? Let us also not forget the two wars they have to “grapple with” were approved by the Democrats almost to a man and that the record deficits and the financial crisis were engineered by many of their own votes.

Our Country’s Moral and Spiritual Crossroads: Same-Sex Marriage

-By Marie Jon’

Our country is facing a spiritual crossroads that could spell the end of traditional marriage and family life. Christianity is being encroached upon by those within the gay community. Many of these people are “part and parcel” of the same crowd who wish to remove God from the public arena because our Creator has plenty to say about their “chosen lifestyle.” If their lifestyle were not by choice, God would not call homosexuality a sin. “God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind” (Numbers 23:19).

The good news is that people who are caught up in this sin can change and free themselves with the help of God. Stephen Bennett was a homosexual man. He has been happily married to his wife Irene for over 15 years. They have two wonderful children. The Bennett family has traveled the world sharing the Lord’s story of redemption and forgiveness. God is the re-creator of lives and true change.

Because the Almighty is loving, He does not mince words. The Lord is all about redeeming the lost. Within the scriptures, God often uses brutal honesty to point to the seriousness and the consequences of our actions. Here is what is found in the Book of Romans pertaining to homosexuality:

Democrats Having Trouble With Democrats Over ‘Card Check’?

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Wall Street Journal is reporting today that Big Labor is finding that it might have a bit less of a lock than it thought on its pet legislation, the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). Apparently, several southern Democrats — those that live in right to work states — as well as some moderates are signaling Senate Majority leader Harry Reid that they are not as interested in entertaining passage of the act as they were when they knew that the GOP was strong enough to filibuster it and when they had a president that stood ready to veto it.

Instead, union leaders now say they are being told card check won’t happen soon. It seems the Obama team plans to devote its opening months to important issues, like the economy, and has no intention of jumping straight into the mother of all labor brawls. It also seems Majority Leader Harry Reid, even with his new numbers, might not have what it takes to overcome a filibuster. It’s a case study in how quickly a political landscape can change, and how frequently the conventional wisdom is wrong.

Of course this little incident illustrates the insincerity of much of what goes on in the Democratic Party. These guys were happy to appear to vote on this measure when they knew that it wouldn’t pass. This way, they could go to their union thug supporters and pretend they were all for their anti-democratic idea in card check all along. But, when it comes to crunch time and they are finally in a position to vote for the law that they claimed they supported, suddenly they reveal that they were simply lying to their supporters. They really don’t support the bill because it is a jobs killer and it takes away people’s democratic rights.

Requiescat in pace, Uncle Sam

-By Michael M. Bates

2008 will be known as the year the United States set aside any pretense of free enterprise. A nation that had flourished with the concept of limited government economic intervention turned to the seductive allure of massive federal intrusion. Washington will now more than ever redistribute wealth in the name of compassion, pick winners and losers, and decide how the fruits of your labor will be spent.

Admittedly, we’ve been heading in that direction, sometimes gradually but inexorably, for decades. James Madison, often identified as the father of the Constitution, would have been astonished by the shift. He’d written: “I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents. . . ”

When the ostensible crisis hit last fall, everyone from President Bush to Barack Obama insisted that Congress needed to take immediate action to bail out the financial industry. Sounding like used car salesmen, they argued it couldn’t wait for a month or even for a week; a $700 billion deal had to be cut now. The details could all be sorted out later.

Accountants Seek Bailout

-By Warner Todd Huston

Washington- In this current economic climate, bailouts for industries in the private sector are quickly becoming the chief form of reform and stability. From newspapers to the financial sector to the auto industry, Congress is infusing life saving money into the bloodstream of the country’s economy.

But one sector is finding itself over burdened at an alarming rate. Critics say that much more strain will find the CPA’s and accountants of America buckle and something needs to be done before it’s too late.

Milton Nebish, president of the B.A.N.A.L., the recently combined accountants unions the Bureau of Accountancy and the National Accountants League, is urging Congress to pass SB069, the so called Accountant’s Relief bill, when Congress gets back in session this year.

Globaloney Update: A Tale of Two ‘Realities’

-By Warner Todd Huston

From June: ‘No ice at the North Pole,’ to January: ‘Sea Ice Ends Year at Same Level as 1979’

No pairing of any two stories better illustrates the child-like alarmism of global warming religionists than these two stories. The first from June of 2008 claims that all the ice at the North Pole has melted and will be gone for the first time ever, while the second shows that by January of 2009 the polar ice measurements show that it is the same as it was in 1979, with no ice loss seen at all between then and now.

The first story was published by the Independent newspaper in England. Written by their “science editor,” Steve Connor, this piece was replete with dire warnings and shocked proclamations of how it all seemed “unthinkable” that all the ice at the North Pole was melted because of globaloney.

Missouri Moves to Make Secret Ballot Required by Law

-By Warner Todd Huston

The misnamed Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) will take away the secret ballot for potential union members and force them to openly declare their preferences for or against a union, causing that worker to be easily open to intimidation by union thugs. This is a law currently in the table in Congress, one that Barack Obama has pledged to push through regardless of how it eliminates one of the oldest democratic rights there is.

But, now Missouri is trying to head off the possible federal enactment of “card check” (the provision that eliminates the secret ballot) by legislating that a secret ballot is protected by state law.

Blacks Have Been Conned About Kwanzaa!

-By Don Boys, Ph.D.

Let me state the obvious: If Blacks (or anyone else) want to celebrate Kwanzaa that is their right; however, it is my right to set the record straight. Kwanzaa is not a religious holiday, nor is it a traditional “African thing.” Moreover, it is grounded in violence, corruption, and deceit. Furthermore, it has an admitted humanist foundation, so professing Christians should not go near the thing. Neither should black Americans!

Yes, I know the U.S. Postal service issued a stamp honoring Kwanzaa but that only proves how shallow and stupid the Postal Service is. And yes, the New York Times and other major journals have positively pitched Kwanzaa. (See previous sentence.) Those people are wearing the “merit badge” of political correctness. In fact, they flaunt it.

ABC News Shocker: The ‘All Time Dumb Quotes’ Are All From Republicans

-By Warner Todd Huston

Looks like ABC News is starting out 2009 with a partisan bang. On its main page, ABC News is hosting a slide show featuring what it is calling the “All Time Dumb Quotes.” Now, these are not all strictly political dumb quotes, to be sure. They also have the empty headed Christina Aguilera, that sharp as a tack Jessica Simpson and other denizens of the Hollywood Mensa club among the 16 featured quotes — and some of them are doozies, too. But, there are six political quotes five by Republicans and one by Tina Fey making fun of a Republican (Palin, naturally), yet there are no “All Time Dumb Quotes” from any Democrats. Not a one. Apparently ABC doesn’t think there’s ever been a dumb Democrat?

Even more absurdly, all these “dumb quotes” are from the last year or so. Apparently, ABC also is not aware of anything “dumb” that was ever said before contemporary history. Yet, even as all these supposedly “All Time Dumb Quotes” are recent, they have one quote…. just one… from farther back in time than just recently. And guess who it’s from? Amazingly, the ONLY “All Time Dumb Quote” ABC can find from before the year 2008 is a 1988 quote by… drum roll please… Dan Quayle!

AP Cries That People Are Mean to Poor Barack

-By Warner Todd Huston

While, instead of simply reporting the news, the Associated Press spends its days looking for every which way it can find to attack George W. Bush, Governor Sarah Palin and any number of other conservatives or Republicans, it has a corresponding penchant to go easy on The One and his Democrat cohorts. Nothing is a better illustration of the difference between the AP’s treatment of the right and left than this one little story headlined “Obama can’t shake the bowling jokes.”

Yes, while the AP is putting snide remarks about Sarah Palin into every story in which she appears, Barack, on the other hand, gets pity from the AP over all those gosh darn meanies out there that can’t let him forget what a bad bowler he is. Oh, HOW can he continue to save us from ourselves if people won’t let this bowling thing go, huh?
