Obama’s Intel Services More Worried About Right-Wing Terror Than Islamists?

-By Warner Todd Huston

On the heels of the odious report by the State of Missouri, recently retracted, focusing on so-called “right-wing terrorism” and implying that every right of center group in American politics is an inch away from being terrorists, now we have a federal agency report doing the same thing.

The Department of Homeland Security has also created a secret report that wasn’t supposed to be made public but has leaked out nonetheless. In it we see the same outrageous conclusions that “right-wing terrorists” are a danger in this country. (Download PDF file)

AP Confuses Criticism of Obama With ‘Racial Slurs’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Proving that the left cannot tell the difference between “racism” and “criticism,” the AP posted a lengthy March 30 story confusing and conflating the two as it pertains to attacks on President Obama. As far as the AP is concerned it seems the whole country is running around with burning crosses and wearing pointy hoods aiming to cast racial epithets at Obama at every turn. It may as well still be the year 1860 around here.

The AP starts its piece by informing the reader that “racial slurs continue” against the president “despite” his “historic achievement.” But the main problem with the piece is that much of the report details political attacks that aren’t really racial in nature but are instead just those normal sorts of political attacks we see against any president. Granted they are tailored for Obama (like his citizenship and religion questions) but they aren’t really “racial” attacks per se. Still, the AP illegitimately lumps any and all attacks against Obama under the rubric of “racial slurs.”

Did the U.S. Turn Socialist Just Because Obama Won?

-By Warner Todd Huston

TNR’s Chait gets it wrong thinking Americans are all nouveau left-wingers just because Barack Obama won the White House

Jonathan Chait is all upset at the Democratic Party. Hs is damning their eyes for not blindly accepting every extremist, left-wing idea that President Obama would like to implement. Chait is wailing that Congressional Democrats are standing athwart Obama’s radical agenda just when he assumes we are at a “once-in-a-generation chance for the Democratic Party to reshape” the country.

Chait is right, of course, that Congressional Democrats are not bending over blindly for Obama’s agenda and many elected officials are jealously guarding their privilege is true enough. He is also right that Obama has faced some obstacles within his own party — and it is probably coming as a surprise to the president, too. But he is wrong to assume they are doing it for spite, mere power or necessarily for personal aggrandizement. In fact, Chait has a major misunderstanding of the very country that Democrats represent. You see, Chait thinks that just because Obama won a 7 percent majority of the vote the whole country is ready to become a radicalized, socialist, anti-religious, and virulently anti-capitalist nation. Chait makes the major mistake in thinking “the people” of the United States of America are just like him.

Um, Did Sen. Grassley Throw a Dig Over Sen. Conrad’s Wife?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Senator Chuck Grassley (R, IA) was making a point during the Senate Budget Committee as they discussed the markup for the 2010 budget. He was trying to get Senator Kent Conrad (D, ND) to remember when he, Grassley, was in the driver’s seat and had back burnered an issue so that Conrad might get a favored resolution adopted two years ago. Grassley was hoping that now that Conrad’s party was in the lead, Conrad might remember a past courtesy and return the favor to Grassley whose party is now in the minority.

After the gentle reminder Conrad realized he was being nudged into acting with civility — something Democrats hate to do — and was being maneuvered into giving the Republicans a small bit of courtesy. Upon realizing he’d been had, Conrad said “Oh, you are good.” to which Grassley gave the classic that’s-what-she-said, man-dig at Conrad’s wife when he replied with a “Your wife said the same thing.”

Ouch.

How to Use Your Children to Annoy a Liberal

-By Selwyn Duke

Since liberals place a premium on tolerance, the loving and charitable thing to do is help them develop it. Note here that, unbeknownst to many, tolerance involves enduring something considered to be a negative. We don’t tolerate a fine meal or a nice car, for instance; we relish such things. But we might have to tolerate bad weather, a cold or Nancy Pelosi. Now, since liberals actually perceive a great many positive things to be negative, placing them in situations wherein they may cultivate tolerance is not difficult.

One under-appreciated vehicle through which to do this is your children. You can use your kids to annoy liberals, but I don’t mean in the way liberals annoy other people with theirs. Liberals, by not civilizing their children, breed brats who bounce balls in supermarkets, play hide-and-go-seek in restaurants, keep the makers of psychotropic medication in business and sometimes chant “Yes, we can!” No, the techniques in question here are far different.

USNews Column: Obama’s Post-Partisan Washington Failure all Republican’s Fault

-By Warner Todd Huston

Two March 19 editorials on Obama’s failure to create post-partisanship in D.C., both from lefties, can’t be farther apart from each other in their conclusions. Marc Dunkelman’s in U.S. News blames everyone but Obama for the failure to invent that mythic bipartisan Washington while Mort Kondracke’s Real Clear Politics piece lays the fault squarely at Obama’s door step.

But, the differences in the two are not just in conclusion but in the journey it took to get there. Sadly, the journey the Dunkelman piece took to get to its conclusion went through Obamamania, into the Obamagobsmacked tunnel, then it took The One turnpike, and ended up parked squarely in Obama’s southern port… if you know what I mean? In other words, it was based solely on a sycophantic love affair with the Obammessiah instead of on solid political analysis.

We Need Something Stronger than Steele

-By Selwyn Duke

RNC Chairman Michael Steele is inside the box and inside the beltway all the way

Most of us place politicians down at the level of used-car salesmen, personal injury lawyers and Hollywood actors. In fact, they’re much like actors, only, their acting is generally a bit better. But we tend to miss the point about our leaders. The problem with politicians is that they’re trying to please us.
Mind you, I don’t mean they’re trying to please those of us who read and render commentary. They don’t have to worry about us fringe types – we don’t really command many votes. We’re like a pesky fly they can’t quite swat (although they’re trying to with measures such as the Fairness Doctrine). My point is that if they were trying to please God, they would be godly men. But as the great Alan Keyes has proven, that doesn’t tend to win elections. So the successful ones try to please the masses, but this doesn’t make them massive men. It makes them minor men.

Planning to Turn Rahm Emanuel’s Seat Red

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Saturday afternoon, in the midst of Chicago’s famous St. Patrick’s Day celebration with its tradition of turning of the Chicago River green, a cadre of concerned Republicans met to plan a way to capture the Congressional seat of Chicago’s 5th District, the one being vacated by Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

The candidate charged with this task is Rosanna Pulido and she only has about three weeks to do it. The special election for Emanuel’s seat is to be held as soon as April 7th.

Her supporters and other interested parties (me included) met at the top of a Michigan Avenue high rise in the comfortable setting of a decades old executive dining room of a Chicago insurance company. The rich wood decor was meant to invoke an old Irish pub, but carousing wasn’t on the schedule that day. Planning a political campaign was, however.

Earmarks And The GOP

-By Dan Scott

Since I have repeatedly taken the Democrats to task for their lack of transparency regarding the federal appropriations process, it is only fair that the GOP should be chastened for their part and collaboration with our dysfunctional government. What I heard recently from two GOP politicians caused me to shake my head violently in revulsion as to how my tax dollars were uselessly appropriated and my future mortgaged by a group of people who were playing the proverbial victim game instead of being in control of the budget process. Listen closely to the rationalization both these men used to justify their actions. If members of the GOP think this way, is it any wonder the Democrats are mystified at the decrying of earmarks?

Senator Robert Bennett (UT – R) made an argument about earmarks on FNC the other day which was later repeated by Representative Ron Paul (TX – R) . The premise of their argument is if they don’t earmark funds then the money allocated will not be specifically spent and the process will not be transparent! The argument advanced is the money will be spent regardless, so they want to insure some of the money goes to their district. In the case of Senator Bennett his earmark had to do with the Mormon Cricket . Every year he earmarks federal funds for eradication of the insect as a set aside from the Department of Agriculture funds. It’s ironic that the government is engaging in pest control when clearly the $375 million industry it effects has sufficient resources to deal with it’s own pest control issues not to mention it’s an annual natural phenomenon that will recur regardless of any actions taken. There is no defense for the waste of federal dollars even using the rationalization of making sure some of it is wasted in a specific geographic area under the pretense of fairness or proportionality.

Globe Column: A Perfect Example of Lies About Rush

-By Warner Todd Huston

Ellen Goodman of the Boston Globe started off her column on March 6 with the exact same feeling about the current Obama/Limbaugh feud that I at first had: I wasn’t going to talk about it either. But after reading her column of distortions and outright lies about Limbaugh — as well as the ever present fat jokes and general incivility — I couldn’t resist analyzing her column. It is, as it occurs, the perfect example of the calumny that lefty writers heap on the radio talker. It also reveals their low born style of discourse and their general state of apoplexy at Limbaugh, if not the general level of insanity he instills in them.

Proving the direction she intended to take right off the top Goodman starts with a fat joke. She says she caught Limbaugh’s CPAC speech as she was on a flight. Goodman quips that he “filled — and I do mean filled — the screen” before her. Yes, one can sense the high caliber of analysis about to assault the eye when reading this first paragraph. Goodman is obviously an intellectual giant.

Obama’s Rush Quickens

-By Warner Todd Huston

It’s been two days now since Rush Limbaugh first challenged President Obama to a duel of words, a debate on issues, and five since the president and his surrogates made Rush the main Democratic Party talking point. Of course, the White House is pretending to stand above such a request from a mere talk radio mouth — no response on the challenge has yet emerged. Yet, Obama’s Press Secretary, his Chief of Staff, and all the Old Media folks that his Chief of Staff instructs on a daily basis in that well known morning strategy session all have been using Rush Limbaugh as a main talking point since the Sunday morning following Rush’s CPAC speech.

Not only has Obama’s seconds come out swinging at Rush, but the whole of the lefty blogosphere has joined in on the taking points. Never the sort to do much self-generated thinking, the lefty gab-o-sphere has with relish taken up the banner and run with it. Naturally, the tenor of discussion has fallen off a cliff into the typical guttural guffaws and epithets at which the left excels. From a purported “Assistant Professor in the Practice of International Politics at Columbia University” on Huffington Post to the DailyKossacks, the name calling is piling up.

With his attack on Rush Limbaugh, however, Obama risks a backlash that just might hit him where it hurts: his own credibility.

‘Oh, God!’ It’s Bobby Jindal!

-By Frank Salvato

It is no secret that today’s mainstream media has morphed into an ideological and agenda-driven propaganda machine, complete with preconceived notions and pre-existing biases. We witnessed the repercussions of this ethical degradation first-hand in the mainstream media’s failure to critically examine the Obama presidential candidacy prior to the 2008 Presidential Election. This bastardization of the media’s informational charge can only be understood as being detrimental to the United States.

Recent episodes involving Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews illustrate precisely how the mainstream media is leading the intolerance movement and why their actions serve to divide our country.

ABC News: Conservatives Are Biggest Porn Consumers?

-By Warner Todd Huston

ABC News is excited about porn. At least excited by the “fact” that conservative and religious states have the highest levels of porn usage in the country. This, ABC says, is according to a study by Benjamin Edelman at Harvard Business School. Yes, it’s another one of those dime-a-dozen studies.

ABC trumpets the bare “facts” in its February 28 piece titled, “Porn in the USA: Conservatives Are Biggest Consumers.” In its first few paragraphs the report claims that, “Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious” than states in the more liberal areas of the country. But there is a problem with ABC’s heavy-handed claim. Even the Harvard researcher doesn’t put too much emphasis on the “conservative states” aspect because his data doesn’t show a very wide gulf between states, conservative or not.

In fact, professor Edelman takes pains to say, “When it comes to adult entertainment, it seems people are more the same than different.” This tends to relay that the rates from state to state really aren’t that notable. Edelman also says later in the piece that, “The differences here are not so stark,” where it concerns the data he compiled.

A Reminder of What Jindal’s Made of

-By Warner Todd Huston

We all saw the rocky performance that Bobby Jindal gave in his response to the president’s not-the-state-of-the-union speech earlier this week. There was a lot of wincing going on during and after his performance. But, let me stress the word “performance,” here. It was NOT the basic theme of the speech that was so bad. It was but how he delivered it.

Still, despite his less than show-stopping performance, a lot of second guessing on Jindal started to waft about conservative circles. The “he’s not ready yet” stuff was everywhere. So, we need to remind ourselves of just what sort of stuff Governor Jindal is made of. That reminder comes in the form of his reaction and efforts during Hurricane Katrina. If you want a show-stopping performance, there you have one.

Update: Unelected Ill. GOP Committeemen Stall Effort for Free Elections

-By Warner Todd Huston

And the effort to prevent the people’s vote by Republican insiders jealous of their unaccountable positions rolls ever onward in Illinois, the most corrupt state in the union.

Earlier in the week I wrote about the regrettable system in Illinois that governs the selection of members of the central committee of the Illinois Republican Party, the group that runs the state party. I reported on the singular fact that the rank and file membership of the GOP cannot elect their leaders and that these committee members, the people that plan every move the party makes, are selected by back room deal making among local committeemen, ward bosses and precinct captains, etc.

Sneaking Abortion Funding Into Every Bill

-By Warner Todd Huston

For some thirty years Congress has built into bills a legislative device called a “pro-life rider.” These riders prevent public funding for abortion from being slipped into bills under the radar. These riders have wide bi-partisan support having resisted elimination since the 1970s.

But, now these riders are coming under threat by the new Obama administration and his pro-abortion Democratic Party cohorts. A bi-partisan group of House members, however, seek to quash the effort by Obama and his followers to reverse a thirty-year tradition, one that conforms to the majority opinion of the American electorate.

Heath Shuler (D-NC), Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH) and nearly 100 of their fellow House members have signed a letter urging the House majority leaders to retain pro-life riders into the coming session and beyond. (see text of letter here, .pdf file format)

Chuck Schumer: Liar, Propagandist, Anti-American, Killer of Free Speech

-By Warner Todd Huston

Usually I don’t go for the hard-edged treatment of politicians as my headline here does. I don’t often call individuals “liars” and the like, though I’ve been known to do so on occasion. Generally, I prefer to assume that those that oppose my views are truthfully advocating for deep held beliefs and not using lies and obfuscation to get there — some exceptions to that, of course. I am not really the biggest fan of the wild-eyed, Olbermannesque sort of bombast and name-calling.

But, after what Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said of his desire to push the ill-conceived “Fairness Doctrine” down our throats, I just can’t see any other explanation of his motives. Every single word he said on this issue was convoluted, unAmerican, illogical and meant solely as a cynical means to his ends of quashing free political speech so that his party could consolidate it’s domination of American politics.

It’s Not Obama’s “Stimulus” Bill

-By Frank Salvato

Now that the behemoth “stimulus” package has been reconciled in conference it appears that we, the taxpayers, will be saddled with financing a superfluity of special interest projects and entitlements. From programs that serve to combat sexually transmitted diseases and facilitate smoking prevention initiatives to the $30 million earmarked – yes, earmarked – for a wetlands restoration project meant to protect the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse, We the People have been bamboozled into financing the biggest raid on the US Treasury in the history of our nation. But before we grab the pitchforks and the torches and start marching down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House in protest, we should consider the facts surrounding the crafting of this abysmal piece of pork legislation.

The American citizenry has employed the convenient practice of blaming the President of the United States for all things enacted or ignored by government. This practice has been facilitated by the mainstream media for decades, if not since the birth of our nation. It can be argued that we have fallen into this practice primarily because it is easier and less time consuming than keeping tabs on each of the 535 voting members of Congress. But in taking the less engaged and less accurate approach to holding our elected officials accountable we perpetuate the misconception that the Executive Branch is all powerful. In fact, it is the Legislative Branch of our government that is charged – exclusively – with the tasks of finance and legislation.

When Did Obama Decide to Turn Against Himself?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Shocking video of Obama campaign promises that he wantonly violated with this stimulus bill!

We were told by every love struck denizen of the Old Media that Barack Obama was bringing a “new” politics to Washington. He was, we were assured, a candidate that was post-partisan, post-racial, and anti-business-as-usual. We were told we could bank on his campaign promises and that he wasn’t like any other politician.

Unfortunately, President Obama seems to have summarily dismissed the promises of candidate Obama, at least as far as this stimulus bill is concerned.

‘Name That Party’ Reaches House Floor

-By Warner Todd Huston

We have for a few years now been chronicling the constant failure of the media to label a criminal or troubled politician with his party affiliation when that politician is a Democrat, we all know. Every couple of days we detail a new “name that party” story where an Old Media outlet reports on a Democrat politician arrested, convicted, or accused of a crime though he seems never to be labeled as such. We’ve also noted many times the opposite tale where a recalcitrant pol that happens to be a Republican finds his party receiving top billing in the Old Media. We have dozens and dozens of examples.

Well, it appears that at least one member of Congress has noticed the same thing and has mentioned the media’s penchant for Democrat Party passing on the floor of the House of Representatives. The Hill’s Briefing Room blog gives us the story.

Now You’re a Racist if you Don’t Support Unions?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Union shill Ron Gettelfinger wants you to know that if you don’t support unions you are a racist. That’s right. If you don’t want the undemocratic card check bill to pass Congress you are exactly like the negro hanging, civil rights denying, Jim Crow enforcers of the 1950s.

In one of the most disgusting examples of moral equivalence I’ve seen for a long time — at least one not appearing on such low-born sites such as the DailyKos or Huffington Post — Gettelfinger committed the anti-intellectual outrage of positing that hanging black men in the 1950’s is “just like” voting against a bill that would take away the right of prospective union members to be allowed to vote their conscience in secret as all votes in a democracy are traditionally cast.

LATimes Claims GOP ‘Uneasy’ About Rush, Yet Offers no Proof

-By Warner Todd Huston

The L.A. Times published a story on February 9 that states that “the GOP” is “uneasy” about Rush’s “self-coronation” as the voice of Republicans. But, after reading the story one realizes that it does not really prove the claim. In fact, only one person is quoted mentioning Rush at all. The rest of the story is but the Times’ conjecture and the claims of “some” and “experts” but nothing that convinces that any segment of the GOP, large or small, is “uneasy” about Rush.

Instead of a story detailing those uneasy about Rush, it seems far more as if what we have here is the L.A.Times trying to create the very “uneasiness” it claims to be reporting upon.

Pelosi: Screw Barack’s ‘Bi-Partisanship’ AND The GOP

-By Warner Todd Huston

Once again Nancy Pelois has told Barack Obama that he can take his desire for a post-partisan Washington and shove it. Pelosi has left little doubt that she doesn’t give a flying fig about the bi-partisan method of governing to which Obama continually pays lip-service.

So, will President Obama take these slaps from Pelosi lying down or will he stand up for what he keeps claiming he is truly interested in? Will this president allow the Speaker of the House to drive his agenda without his input?

Thus far, it seems that he will. It is starting to become glaringly obvious that Barack Obama isn’t taking any part in the actual process. He just gives good press conference and then retreats back into the White House to leave the real work to others. And those “others” (like Democrats Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Senator Harry Reid) are not interested in their president’s sparkling ideals. Not only do Reid and Pelosi have no interest in heeding Obama’s lofty call to work across the aisle with the GOP but they want to crush the GOP without mercy. It’s partisan business as usual as far as the Democrats in Congress are concerned.

Boston’s conservative radio host, Howie Carr, helped a women decide against committing suicide on his morning radio show on Thursday when she called in distraught about her dire economic situation. NRCC Updates Its Website

-By Warner Todd Huston

The National Republican Congressional Committee has upgraded its website and unveiled it today at nrcc.org. The catch phrase they wish us to take away from the new site is: Regaining America’s Trust Begins in the House.

I hate to say it, but that seems a bit defeatist and gives the impression of the beaten dog. Though, perhaps a little beat down is deserved, eh? Anyway, I just wish it was a bit more of a positive message. Of COURSE we have to admit as a party that we screwed the pooch, but do we have to make that our advertisement theme, too?

It almost seems to scream “We Effed up, but we’ll be better, I SWEAR TO GOD!” It is a bit unsatisfying as a rallying cry, I have to say. After all, “regaining” trust implies we lost it in the first place. Wile true, do we have to prostrate ourselves even in a rallying slogan?

It just reminds me of the skinny kid yelling “don’t hit me!” And we all remember that yelling that invites double the smacks.

Paper Editor Alters Column To Say Writer is ‘Bitter Conservative’ That ‘Can’t Wish US Well’

-By Warner Todd Huston

This is why newspapers deserve to be buried in the dust bin of history, at least unless they clean up their act. For well over 20 years a southwest suburban Chicago newspaper called The Reporter has employed a columnist named Michael M. Bates. He has been the local conservative columnist for many years until, that is, his latest column on Barack Obama was altered to add malicious content aimed at the columnist by the paper’s editor.

Bates was one of those conservatives (like myself) that wrote that he hoped that Obama would not succeed as president IF success meant that all sorts of socialist, unAmerican policies would be implemented. Bates was not wishing the president to fail except in implementing policies that Bates felt would be bad for America and even more to the point Bates was not saying he wised the U.S. as a whole ill. But it seems that “nuance” is not something that Bates’ editor understands because the editor decided to add some things to Bates’ column that Bates did not say.

I Don’t WANT Rush Limbaugh as the Voice of Republican Party

I am sick and tired of being sick and tired of Old Media people like columnist Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post and liberals like Pelosi and Obama who keep claiming that talk show host Rush Limbaugh is the only voice of the Republican Party. Imagine. A mere radio guy. Our voice!

I am through with Limbaugh’s supporting the long tradition of rugged American individualism, done with his harping on free trade, and up to here with his going on about the Founders and our American character. I am worn out with his bellicose talk of stopping terrorism, and so done with Limbaugh’s high profile as one of the most listened to conservative advocates in the country that I could just spit. I simply don’t want this Limbaugh character to be the sole voice of the GOP. Stop it now. Make it go away.
