Roskam and Kinzinger Applaud House Passage of Energy Tax Prevention Act

Bill prevents EPA from instituting job-crushing energy taxes

Congressman Peter Roskam, Chief Deputy Whip, and Congressman Adam Kinzinger have issued statements after the House passed the Energy Tax Prevention Act, 255 – 172, to block the EPA from imposing cap-and-trade by regulation:

Congressman Peter Roskam

“I applaud the House for blocking new job-crushing energy taxes on families and employers. Americans have already overwhelmingly rejected a national energy tax by cap and trade, and the EPA’s proposal is just a back-door effort to accomplish exactly that by regulation. Unilaterally regulating greenhouse gases would increase energy costs in every home and every business, meaning higher bills and less jobs. It would cripple manufacturers – job creators – who use roughly one-third of our nation’s energy. For my manufacturers in the western and northwestern suburbs of Chicago, I’m glad the House acted to stop this job-crushing regulation.”

http://roskam.house.gov/

Congressman Adam Kinzinger

“Twenty-one months ago, Washington Democrats forced passage of the controversial cap and trade legislation through the House of Representatives. While cap and trade failed in the Senate, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is still attempting to enforce a backdoor cap and trade system on the American people.

“Today, the House approved the Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011. Without this legislation, we are simply stepping to the side while the EPA imposes a cap-and-trade agenda which could mean even higher gas prices, increased utility rates, manufacturing jobs being sent overseas, and hampering our overall economic recovery.

“The Energy Tax Prevention Act is an effective, bipartisan approach to stop the EPA’s cap and tax agenda. It takes necessary steps to protect jobs and restores the Clean Air Act to its original purpose by repealing action already taken by the EPA to impose a bureaucratic climate change agenda.

“Manufacturers and energy producers at the local and national level, such as Edison Power in the Eleventh Congressional District and the National Association of Manufacturers, have made it clear that the Energy Tax Prevention Act is necessary in order to curtail the EPA’s overreaching regulations and create the certainty job creators need to grow their businesses and get more folks back to work here at home.

“Congress must focus on removing these regulatory obstacles in order to create long-term economic growth.”

BREAKING, BIG Upset: Prosser Finds 7,000 Votes in Wisconsin??

-By Warner Todd Huston

OK, folks, it seems that Waukesha County has discovered a computer error in its vote count which gives Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser 7,000 new votes. This completely changes the game to wipe out the 200 some lead that challenger Kloppenburg had giving Prosser a big win.

Now, I am a big, big advocate of quashing voter fraud so I have to say that I think the state of Wisconsin better look at this VERY closely. The state better make 100% sure that this is a legal outcome, here.

Don’t get me wrong, I am loving the idea that Prosser won this election. But the fact is that the county that these new 7,000 votes were found in is a GOP controlled county and I just can’t rest on this until we are sure this is right.

Left-Wingers Have the Cash To Constantly Beat Conservatives

-By Warner Todd Huston

As some of you may remember I have been covering the anti-vote fraud efforts of True The Vote, a program created by the Texas-based King Street Patriots. They recently sent out a fund raising letter that almost immediately drew the notice of left wingers intent on destroying their anti-vote fraud work. This immediate response by the left really highlighted how unprepared conservatives are to fight the left’s juggernaut machine.

The King Street Patriots (KSP) have raised several thousand dollars to fund their anti-vote fraud program, certainly. But, as everyone knows, when running an organization — especially a politically oriented one — money is always in short supply.

Catherine Engelbrecht, the head of the KSP, has told me that they’ve rarely resorted to asking for money in fundraising letters, but sent one out early this week to raise much needed cash. Engelbrecht told me that only hours after the letter went out to her supporters the left-wing website American Independent posted a story about the letter.

The quick jump on the fund raising letter by the left shows some major differences between the left and the right in political activism.

Why Donald Trump Can’t Win a GOP Primary

-By Warner Todd Huston

“Nancy — you’re The Best.” Those four words are indicative of Trump’s biggest stumbling block for winning a GOP primary: his past coziness with various Democrats.

The “Nancy” referenced above is, of course, none other than that ever lovin’ Cruella DeVilleish, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Trumps sent her this little love note in January of 2007.

It isn’t just this one note that will doom Trump’s chances of ever winning a GOP primary, though. It is this coupled with the many thousands of dollars that he has donated to Democrat politicians for their political campaign funds….

Republicans Urge Fiscal Responsibility, Energy Policies That Create Jobs

This video was shown to GOP senators Tuesday highlighting the fight for responsible spending policies and the need to create an environment in which private-sector job creation can flourish. Democrats, on the other hand, continue to balk at any attempt to seriously address our nation’s spiraling debt. Senate Republicans continue to fight burdensome energy taxes that would cripple our nation’s businesses and drive up the cost of energy for American families.

Senate Consensus: It Should Have No Power

-By Warner Todd Huston

For decades (and not just since Obama became president, either) the office of the president has slowly been taking on more and more power unto itself. By a constant flurry of Executive Orders (the wide use of which starting chiefly during FDR’s term) to making war without much bothering with Congress, presidents have been grabbing power from our legislative branch with both fists. The Senate had a chance today to reassert its own power but sadly it has allowed that opportunity to pass unrealized.

Senator Rand Paul (R, KY) proposed an amendment to a small business bill that would reaffirm the constitutional authority of Congress to declare war. This amendment would have taken away some measure of assumed presidential power to return that power to Congress…

Sadly, Paul couldn’t even get his own party to join his quest to right the ship and the amendment failed 9-10.

GOP Hopefuls Support Cuts to Planned Parenthood Funding

-By Warner Todd Huston

Remember, President Obama is an advocate of infanticide…

The pro-life organization Susan B. Anthony List has announced that nine potential GOP presidential candidates have signed on to a call for Congress to defund the abortion mill organization Planned Parenthood.

The pro-life group has statements from Rep. Michelle Bachmann, Governor Haley Barbour, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, former Gov. Mike Huckabee, former Gov. Sarah Palin, Rep. Ron Paul, Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Gov. Mitt Romney, and former Senator Rick Santorum all saying in one way or another the Planned Parenthood should be defunded.

Abortion is certainly an issue that shine a light of stark differences between Republicans and President Ogbama. Obama is solidly for abortion. In fact, he is a supporter of infanticide as his own words have clearly shown.

Kinzinger Statement on the Government Shutdown Prevention Act

From the office of Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R, 11th, Illinois)…

Washington, D.C. – Today, on the 41st day since the House passed H.R. 1, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-11) spoke out in support of H.R. 1255, urging the Senate to cut $61 billion in government spending.

“Last year, when our friends on the other side of the aisle had the Majority in Washington, they failed to do the most basic thing — pass a budget. No budget was passed because they didn’t want to have to make the tough choices that would hurt them in re-election. Instead, Washington Democrats kicked the can down the road and passed a Continuing Resolution.

“As a result, the American people spoke up in November. They said the big, bloated, bureaucratic government is crowding out the free market.

Roskam Statement on March Jobs Report

From the Office of Rep. Peter Roskam, (R, ILL)…

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Peter Roskam (R-IL), Chief Deputy Whip, issued the following statement after the Department of Labor released their March jobs report:

“These numbers continue to show that our economy is moving in the right direction but not recovering nearly fast enough. For the millions of Americans still out of work, today is just one more painful reminder that Washington’s rampant borrowing and spending has grown our debt, but not jobs. Yet even as the borrow, tax, and spend policies severely hurt our economy, Senate Democrats continue to put politics ahead of policy – refusing sensible spending cuts – and rooting for a shutdown.

“That spending mentality, coupled with a constant drive to raise taxes, is a recipe for sustained economic disaster. It’s evident in Illinois where major employers – most recently Caterpillar and Jimmy John’s – signal that Illinois’ new job-crushing tax increases may force them to relocate to better business environments. We can’t expect the private sector to create jobs when faced with the highest corporate tax rate in the world, a $14 trillion national debt, and the constant threat of new Washington regulations and taxes. That’s why Republicans are focused on removing barriers to job creation by stopping Washington from spending money it doesn’t have, and implementing policies like fundamental tax reform, no-cost free trade agreements, and reform of harmful bureaucrat-driven regulations.”

Indiana Makes Great Strides in School Choice, Pro-Life Legislation

-By Warner Todd Huston

While everyone has been focusing on the Nazi signs being carried by “teachers” in Wisconsin, Indiana’s fleebaggers have finally come home and the state’s legislature has gotten down to business. The result has been some great conservative victories for school choice and pro-choice legislation.

Hoosier Access has the finer points and details, but I’ll give an overview of two great pieces of legislation that passed down at the state’s House in Indianapolis.

Wisconsin Union’s Boycott Likely Illegal

-By Warner Todd Huston

Government union members of AFSCME Council 24 are circulating letters to local businesses in southeast Wisconsin threatening them that if they don’t come to immediate and vocal support of government unions the businesses will be targeted for attack.

The union says it won’t be satisfied with statements of neutrality, either. An AFSCME spokesman told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that only full-throated support would keep the union from attacking businesses.

The union told businesses that if they didn’t put a sign in their store windows proclaiming their support of government unions, then the union would target the business. “Failure to do so will leave us no choice but (to) do a public boycott of your business. And sorry, neutral means ‘no’ to those who work for the largest employer in the area and are union members,” the union said in its letter.

Compromised Wisc. Judge Rewrites Stop Order For Union Law… Again

-By Warner Todd Huston

Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi has gone back to her order to stop Gov. Scott Walker’s union bill and rewritten it in an effort to assist unions and Democrats (including her Democratic Operative son) continue to ride the gravy train at the expense of the taxpayers.

Sumi, whose entire family seems to be up to their necks in union business and Democrat Party politics, issued an order to stop Walker’s efforts to curb the ability of government unions to demand outsized benefits immediately after the bill passed the Wisconsin state legislature.

The state, however, published the bill on schedule and the legislature began to implement it this week.

Chris Lauzen: Direct Election of Republican State Central Committeemen

From the office of State Senator Chris Lauzen (R, 25th District)…

“You Decide . . . .” That’s what SB35 (the old SB600) is all about.

If you think it’s “OK” for Republican State Central Committeemen to give thousands of dollars and serious support to Mayor Daley, Governor Blagojevich, and other Democrat politicians . . . if you think it makes any sense at all to have Jim Oberweis, who has spent more than $10,000,000 to lose five (5) major elections, advising Republicans about how to win political campaigns . . . and, if you think it is in any way appropriate for the Republican State Central Committee to threaten Republican precinct committeemen with punishment for not supporting every single Republican candidate on the ticket, no matter how corrupt or opposed to the Illinois Republican Party Platform they are . . . do not support fundamental reform and change. No need to read further.

SB35 provides for direct election of Republican State Central Committeemen. Proponents want the right to vote for their leaders just like Republicans had for more than fifty (50) years, before Governor Thompson and his allies took it away through legislation. We want what Democrat primary voters have continued to enjoy.

If Republicans were in good shape in Illinois, I would say it doesn’t make any difference how we elect our leaders. However, Democrats have been slaughtering us with nine (9) years of corrupt or incompetent Governors and nearly veto-proof majorities in the State House and Senate. This gross mismanagement has led to a staggering 67% personal income tax increase, a redefinition of marriage in homosexual “unions”, constant threats to our right to self-defense, the obvious bankruptcy of our state through crippling spending and debt, and now the protection of murderers, terrorists and rapists from the death penalty.

Mich. Teachers Assoc. Features Photo of Gov. Snyder as Devil on Facebook Page

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Mackinac Center for Public Policy has a devil of a story. It appears that the Michigan Education Association was hosting a photo of Michigan Governor Rick Snyder replete with bloodspatters and occult symbols making the governor out to be the devil. (See image below)

The Mackinac Center alerted the MEA about the offensive image that had been on the page since March 11 and the teachers group claimed they had no idea it was there and did not put it there themselves.

How it is that such an image can for days be on the MEA’s official Facebook page and the organization not knowing it is rather absurd.

“We do monitor our page — unfortunately, we missed this one (items move down the Facebook feed pretty quickly, so if we miss it, it can get buried fast),” Pratt said in an email. “We’ve deleted the item. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.”

Remember, folks, THESE are the sort of people “teaching” our children!

Rep. Peter Roskam: High Taxes Have Consequences

-By Illinois Congressman Peter Roskam, GOP Chief Deputy Whip

Note: Caterpillar CEO Doug Oberhelman will testify before the Ways & Means Trade Subcommittee today.

Illinois and other states have recently made headlines for their declining populations. Whether they realize it or not, what states like Illinois are learning the hard way is that over-taxing and over-regulating has consequences. And Illinois is now learning that one painful consequence is job loss.

Caterpillar, a Fortune 500 company that employs 23,000 workers in Illinois, currently finds itself dealing with a new tax increase in an already over-taxed state. Their CEO, Doug Oberhelman, sent a warning shot on March 21st with a letter to Illinois’ new Democrat Governor Pat Quinn:

Ill GOP House News

From Ill. GOP House Leader Tom Cross…

Years of advocating for fiscally conservative and responsible budgeting by members of the House Republican caucus finally seems to be resonating with leading Democrats in the House. Wednesday, House Republican Leader Tom Cross testified alongside House Speaker Michael Madigan before the House Elementary and Secondary Appropriations and the General Services Appropriations Committees on legislation they are co-sponsoring that reinforces the concept that the state cannot spend more money than it takes in.

House Bill 3639, House Bill 3697, and House Bill 116 require the state to fully fund the public pension systems in FY12 and House Bill 117 which passed the Public Safety Committee, requires the state to allocate $2.137 billion to pay debt service on bonds.

Cross_Madigan_HB117 from Illinois House Republicans on Vimeo.

The House also passed on Wednesday a bi-partisan, House Resolution 158, which specifies that any revenue the state receives exceeding $33.2 billion, the estimate adopted in House Resolution 110, should be used to pay down bills. This estimate is $2 billion less than the Governor proposed spending in his FY12 budget plan.

Last week the House passed House Resolution 156 establishing the percentage of general revenue funds each appropriations committee would have available to work with as they develop their budgets.
The allocation is as follows:

  • Elementary and Secondary Education – 28.742%
  • General Services – 5.158%
  • Higher Education – 8.761%
  • Human Services – 50.631%
  • Public Safety – 6.978%

“This series of legislation is putting the legislature on the right path to passing a state budget that is balanced and does not exceed what we can afford – that helps ensure the tax increases passed in January will be temporary,” said Cross. “It also provides schools, human service providers and others with some certainty knowing how much money will be available as they prepare their own budgets. That is something they haven’t had for years with the Democrats’ lump sum budgets. It’s good to see our persistence is finally paying off and we are going to continue to hold the Democrats’ feet to the fire to reduce spending and balance the budget.”

Rep Joe Walsh on a Gov’t Shut Down

Newly minted Republican Congressman Joe Walsh of the 8th Illinois District recently spoke to CBS News about the possibility of a government shut down due to the Democrat’s reticence to come up with their own budget policies.

It should be remembered that the Democrats never DID pass a budget in 2010 and the House of Representatives newly taken over by the GOP is playing catch up.

A Nationwide Movement To Eliminate Voter Fraud Is Born

-By Warner Todd Huston

This past weekend the first national True The Vote Summit was conducted by the folks that successfully rooted out vote fraud in Harris County, Texas during the 2010 elections. Folks from 27 different states were in attendance to learn how the Harris County effort was conducted in hopes of replicating the same back home, but with the hard lessons already learned.

On Saturday those in attendance heard from True The Vote’s wizened members and learned what the best practices were to “true” the voting process in their own areas. Along with the True the Vote experts attendees also heard from the Wall Street Journal’s John Fund and election law expert Christian Adams. The day’s activities were wrapped up in a neat, if somewhat eccentric bow as those gathered heard an entertaining address by none other than our own Andrew Breitbart.

This event wasn’t just a rally cry for free and fair elections, though indeed it was that. TTV’s Mark Antill, Alan and Colleen Vera, Nancy Geigel, Vickie Pullen and the indefatigable Catherine Engelbrecht gave detailed information on how folks can set up their own poll watcher programs, told the summit goers how to keep the process free of partisanship, and discussed the ins and outs of the legal system they came up against when implementing their 2010 program. I even got a few minutes to let the folks know how to use the Internet and the New Media to help support their efforts back home.

But make no mistake about it. Despite what the left has said about this effort, their goal is not to inject a partisan agenda into our elections but to make sure that every election nation wide is free of fraud. Time and again TTV’s members told of how they worked hand in hand with Democrat poll watchers to make sure that everything was on the up and up during the elections.

Still this hasn’t stopped the left from whimpering.

Wisconsin Stops Removing Union Dues From Employees Checks

-By Warner Todd Huston

Pursuant to Governor Scott Walker’s new rules, as of Monday the State of Wisconsin is no longer taking union dues out of the paychecks of government workers. The state is also charging more for these employee’s healthcare and pensions.

Even though there is still a question open of a compromised judge’s ruling to set aside the new law, the state is surging forward and implementing it anyway. Because of the legal confusion, some cities are not implementing the law.

The cessation of the state removing union dues will be a great blow to the government unions and will save the state millions of dollars in administrative costs.

Like many states, until this ruling Wisconsin automatically deducted union dues from the checks of state employees and deposited that money straight into the union’s bank accounts. This saved the unions millions of dollars because the union did not have to pay for the administration and accounting costs of taking dues. It also made sure that the unions automatically had their dues money given to them without having to rely on the union members to write a check for dues on their own.

Peter Roskam, Ill. Delegation Mostly Disappointed With Obama’s Libya Policies

-By Warner Todd Huston

Despite initially intending to skip a public address, President Obama finally came before the nation last night to speak about his plans and ideas for America’s engagement in Libya. Unfortunately there are more questions than answers still and members of the Illinois congressional delegation are less than satisfied with Obama’s Libya policies.

For one, Peter Roskam (R, 6th), Chief Deputy Whip of the GOP led House, is less than happy with Obama’s televised appearance.

Even though it comes nine days after our military became engaged in Libya, I am pleased President Obama took the opportunity to address the country tonight. Unfortunately many questions still remain. Even with a nationally-televised, widely-promoted speech, Americans still don’t have the answer to a basic and essential question: what is the benchmark for success in Libya?

Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R, 11th) went a step farther yesterday and said that, even though he is not advocating sending troops at this time, we should not automatically rule out sending in American ground troops. “What you end up seeing is when you say we’re never going to send in American troops–you take away that ability to use that as a trump card or leverage.”

The Left’s Koch and Bull Story

-By Warner Todd Huston

Any more being on the left is little different than being a flat earther or a true believer in UFOs. One may as well accept that sprites infest the woodlands and leprechauns have cornered the gold market as believe in the fantastic conspiracies the left indulges in. The left’s latest flight of fantasy has been its anti-Koch brothers zealotry.

Matthew Continetti has done a great job in a recent issue of the Weekly Standard tearing apart the left’s edge-of-earth theories that the eeeevil Koch brothers are funding the entire right-wing smear machine across the country.

We can liken the left’s wild-eyed Koch conspiracies to the way the Old Media (and this time I mean really old media) reported the exploits of the western outlaw, Jesse James and his gang of bank robbers back in the late 1800s. If one were to believe newspaper reports of the 1870s, the James gang were seen in nearly every southern, midwestern, and near western state for a decade and usually all at the same time — which was a pretty good trick in the days when it took at least a week to get from Chicago to San Francisco.

‘Sabotage’: Media Matters Dumpster Diving for Dirt Against Fox News Employees

-By Warner Todd Huston

Politico has a story up about Media Matters that shows just how illegitimate, how low down, how filled with vitriol and hate its efforts to push George Sorros’ left-wing agenda is. Media Matters, you see, has quietly revamped its operations to go from mere media criticism to outright enemy and saboteur of Fox News. They are even going to far as to research the lives and financial holdings of even the lowliest Fox employees in order to “sabotage” Fox and to blackmail employees.

Ben Smith recalls that Media Matters, a left-wing blog funded to the tune of $10 million a year by folks like billionaire financier George Soros, originally started its life on the Internet as the sort of media opposition to right of center blogs, talk radio hosts, and TV newsers like Fox News. But Smith reports that Media Matters is now retrenching and starting a new direction: saboteur of Fox News.

I don’t say “saboteur” in hyperbole, either. Media Matters founder David Brock himself casts Media Matters’ new role as the official saboteur of Fox.

Free and Fair Elections True The Vote Style

-By Warner Todd Huston

I am here in sunny Houston, Texas attending the opening night of the True The Vote Summit and what a night it has been. We heard some inspiring speeches for this sold out event, saw some interesting attendees, and met an awful lot of great folks.

It has been thrilling to see several hundred handpicked Tea Partiers and local concerned citizens from 27 states here to learn how they, too, can stop vote fraud in their own districts using the methods learned the hard way in 2010 by the King Street Patriots here in Harris County, Texas.

You might recall back in Sept. of 2010 when the KSPers discovered an ACORN guy that had registered over 23,000 fake voters for the 2010 elections here in Texas. That was only the beginning of their efforts to root out vote fraud in one of the most corrupt Democrat controlled areas in the state.

Let’s Have Some Patience on the Budget Cuts

-By Warner Todd Huston

For decades I have been sick and tired unto death of the massive overspending, arrogance, and outright graft of Congress. Like many of you I felt the Tea Party movement was a bolt out of the blue, but a welcome one. I was also jazzed when the 2010 Republican wave overtook Washington and installed so many freshmen congressmen pledging to cut the federal budget. Also like many of you I am frustrated with the slow pace of cuts and would love to see them come faster.

One of the loudest voices decrying the slow pace of the cuts often comes from the radio talkers. Folks like Limbaugh and Levin, for instance, are heard to lament that the GOP is not being proactive enough with the budget cuts. They say the $10 billion that the House Republicans have been successful in cutting so far with the pair of short-term continuing budgets is a drop in the bucket, that it is almost a joke.

It’s easy to make the case, too, that saving $10 billion is the least of efforts especially when Obama has run us up to $2.5 trillion in debt… and here is where the “but” comes in (not to mention where I get hardcore conservatives mad at me).
