Out of Touch

-By Dan Scott

A turning point in US history has come; either the Elites who advocate for the statist cause for control prevails or the self-governance by the citizenry prevails. We are at the tipping point of government micromanagement versus individual responsibility (power). Unless you have been living as a hermit these past few years most people now recognize the stark choice that is before the country. Will the government be allowed to usurp individual choice and responsibility without opposition by reason of clever arguments by those who claim they know better or will the people rise up and clean house in the 2010 elections to remove the Elites? Who runs the country? The Elites or the People?

The following quotes are brought up for your consideration regarding the attitudes and behavior of government officials (Elites) regarding self-rule in a Republic.

“Everybody thinks there’s still an appetite for California bonds,” Lockyer said. “There’s certainly a continuing need for long-term investments in schools, high-speed rail, stem-cell research centers and so on.”

Source

As you can see, the idea of fiscal restraint to prioritize government action in the face of limited resources does not exist. Furthermore, notice what are considered investments? All three are liberal boondoggles. Public schools are turning out less and less high school graduates each year as a percent of enrollment yet more and more money is thrown ineffectively at the situation doubling down using the same failed methods. Bureaucrats are foisting their vision of the future with expensive (billions) pipe dreams of high speed rail that is neither cost effective or energy efficient and (embryonic) stem cell research which has never produced even one medical therapy. Had the billions wasted on these boondoggles been not diverted from investment in the economy, millions of jobs would have been created. Money it seems can be borrowed without thought of repayment and printed as monopoly paper without consequence destroying its underlying value. The national debt is spiraling out of control on a federal level due to the same sky’s the limit mentality of the Elites at the State level who believe they know better.

Pelosi Thwarting Transparency Measures, Won’t Allow Public to See Healthcare Bill

-By Warner Todd Huston

On September 25, we reported on the Walden Discharge Petition that Representative Joe Wilson informed us about in a conference telephone call. Wilson told us of a resolution that would force all bills that come before the House for a vote to be posted on the Internet for 72 hours before the members can vote on it.

Now it is becoming clear that the Democratic leadership is trying desperately to stop this effort at transparency.

From Wilson we found out that the rules change for procedures in the House of Representatives was about to be sent to committee but that the Walden Discharge Petition would send the resolution straight to the floor for a vote through the discharge petition process.

Today, Susan Ferrechio of the Washington Examiner details the effort to quash transparency by Democrats in the House.

5th District Congressional Race: Ratowitz Picks up an Endorsement

-By Warner Todd Huston

From the Ratowitz campaign: CHICAGO — David Ratowitz, a Republican candidate for U.S. Congress (IL-5), has received the enthusiastic endorsement of John J. Curry, long-time GOP activist and committeeman for Chicago’s 32nd Ward.

“Illinois and Chicago have been reeling from continual instances of political corruption. Therefore, it is a time when the Republican Party should promote new leaders with a commitment to freedom and good government. David Ratowitz is just such a candidate. A smart, credentialed young professional, David knows the issues and has been barnstorming the district with energy, motivating a new grassroots powerbase for the Republican Party. He has easily proven his ability as a candidate and as a prospective Congressman. For these reason, I personally endorse David for election in the Republican primary for U.S. Representative in the 5th Congressional District.” – John J. Curry

A third-generation Chicago Republican, Curry has been involved in numerous local, state and national Republican campaigns, include serving as an Illinois congressional district coordinator in 1980 for Ronald Reagan in his first presidential run. Curry was part of the Illinois delegation to both Reagan inaugurations and to the Republican National Convention in 1988. He also served as an RNC delegate in 2004.

A partner in the law firm of Polisinelli, Shalton, Flanigan, Suelthaus, PC, Curry helped found the Chicago Lawyers Division of the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy, a Washington, D.C.-based public policy group. Hot News: Senate Dumps Illegals ID’s; Pelosi Dumps Co-ops; Harkin Says No Republicans Allowed

-By Warner Todd Huston

Three more happenings on the Hill this week involve the Senate defeating an amendment that would require illegal aliens from having to show legal ID to get their “free” healthcare, the House saying no to the healthcare co-op idea and going full tilt for the so-called public option, and Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) tipping in Obama’s bi-partisan sentiment by saying that no Republicans are allowed to have a say in the final debate.

First up was the Senate’s defeat of the illegal ID requirement. Senator Grassley offered an amendment that would require immigrants to supply full ides to prove that they could legally access government healthcare.

On party lines the Grassley’s amendment was defeated 10 to 13.

Democrats claimed that the amendment was “a solution without a problem.” But Republicans contend that Democrats simply don’t want to prevent the possibility of illegals being turned away from “free” government healthcare services.

Dems False Talking Point of 80% Agreement

-By Warner Todd Huston

Obama has repeatedly been heard to say that Congress agrees on “about 80% of what needs to be done” on healthcare. And many Democratic congressmen have been echoing this since Obama’s Sept. speech. The meme has been used to present their case as if Obamacare is somehow mostly acceptable by all concerned. Even some Republican congressmen have used the meme. But what does this 89% catch phrase mean? Is it true?

It would appear that the truth is murkier than the meme.

Immediately after Obama’s Sept. 10th speech where he uttered the “80%” claim, the Heritage Foundation disputed the stat saying this it is “probably not true because about 80 percent of what is in the current legislation is not needed in order to achieve the three basic goals outlined in the speech.”

Recently, others have been raising doubts about this 80% claim.

Grudge Match Between Republicans Lauzen and Oberweis Over 14th District Primary?

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Hill is reporting that the upcoming 14th District GOP primary is shaping up as a grudge match between two Republicans that aren’t even in the race. According the The Hill this is a grudge match between State Senator Chris Lauzen and wannabe anything Jim Oberweis, both candidates that vied for that seat in the 2008 special election that sent Democrat Bill Foster to Washington.

The 14th District Congressional seat was the one that Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert held until he resigned in 2008. Hastert’s son Ethan Hastert is now running for the GOP nomination for his father’s old seat.

This “grudge match” meme pushed by The Hill is a result of the formal entry into the primary race of State Senator Randy Hultgren who threw his hat in the ring earlier in the week. Hultgren was elected to the State Senate in 2006 and served in the Illinois House for eight years previous to that. (1999-2007).

Isaac Hayes for Ill. 2nd Congressional District

-By Warner Todd Huston

Today’s spotlight falls on the Reverend Isaac Hayes who is running for the 2nd Congressional District. The 2nd comprises the towns of Harvey, Lansing, Chicago Heights, Park Forest and part of Calumet City all of which are well south east of Chicago and on the Indiana border. The 2nd is also spread across parts of both Cook and Will Counties.

Hayes is a native of Chicago’s South Side and earned a degree in Information Systems at Ill. State University. Hayes was vice president of ABN AMRO Mortgage and now ministers full-time to youth at the Apostolic Church of God in his community.

Hayes will face incumbent Democratic Representative Jesse Jackson, Jr.

Here is his announcement address delivered at the Cook County GOP Convention this year:

Why Obama Will Throw ACORN Under the Bus

-By Frank Salvato

The spotlight of scrutiny is shining brightly on ACORN these days and rightly so. Where ACORN’s defenders have the audacity to insist that the employees caught on undercover videotape giving advice to a perceived “pimp” and “prostitute” on how to defraud the Internal Revenue Service and internationally traffic in underage Guatemalan prostitutes were simply “a few bad employees,” anyone with a brain recognizes that the problem is systemic in the organization. But what some are misdiagnosing or not completely understanding is how President Obama could be so nonchalant about the issue in recent interviews. It’s because ACORN – for Mr. Obama – has served its purpose and just like Van Jones, Tom Daschle and the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, ACORN is about to be tossed under the bus.

In past articles and in many radio interviews, I have insisted that Barack Obama is just another Chicago machine politician, albeit a very successful one (If you don’t understand the phrase “Chicago machine” read the book Boss by legendary Chicago journalist Mike Royko). And like every good Chicago machine politician, Barack Obama is following the cardinal rules:

  • Do what you have to in order to get elected.
  • Once elected, consolidate as much power as you possibly can.
  • Reward those who helped you get elected.
  • Position yourself for re-election and your retention of power.

In each of the steps Barack Obama has performed so far he has done so in a most exemplary fashion.

Unions Threatened by New House Healthcare Provision?

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Democrat leadership of the House of Representatives now wants to pay for H.R.3200 — the House healthcare bill — by charging a tax on the so-called Cadillac healthcare plans. This surtax is something that has been talked about in the Senate and forms an integral part of the Baucus bill, but this is the first time that House leaders have broached this revenue idea for inclusion in H.R.3200.

The idea, a classic class warfare styled policy, would tax what Congress considers high-end healthcare plans, purportedly only hitting “the rich.” But it is highly possible that this “rich man’s” surtax might also apply to millions of union members that have traded pay raises for higher levels of benefits over the last decade.

This surtax idea is one of the reasons that many of the unions had been pushing for the public option. Unions chiefs felt that the surtax would unduly affect their membership and that the public option would give union members a “free” place to go if they had to cut back on benefits or what have you.

Joe Wilson: Petition to Put Bills On Line for 72 Hours Before House Vote

-By Warner Todd Huston

I was part of a small number of bloggers and Internet writers invited to speak with Representative Joe Wilson (R, SC) Friday afternoon. Rep. Wilson wanted to alert us all to a resolution that would provide that all bills that go through the House of Representatives would be posted on the Internet for 72 hours prior to any possibility of a floor vote.

The Resolution is House Res. 554, amending the Rules of the House to require legislation and conference reports to be available on the Internet 72 hours before consideration. If this resolution is approved by the members of the House, all bills — including H.R. 3200, the House Healthcare bill — will be placed on the Internet for all to see for three days before the bill can be voted on.

In an email on this issue Wilson said, “Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats have continually rushed major legislation to a vote to ensure little to no public scrutiny. If we succeed, Americans can finally separate fact from fiction.”

Senate Economic Committee Report: How Easy to Keep Your Doctor With Baucus Bill?

-By Warner Todd Huston

How many times have we heard the president’s wild claim that we can “keep our healthcare plan if we like it”? Well, if that were true we’d also be able to keep our doctor, right? Hasn’t the president said that we won’t have to lose our favorite doctor with “his” healthcare policies?

So, how easy will it be to keep your doctor and access his services under the Baucus bill now under consideration in the Senate?

The Senate Joint Economic Committee recently addressed this question by creating a nice visual representation of how easy it will be to access your doctor through Obamacare. The JEC crated an interesting flowchart so that we can follow the steps that the Baucus bill will impose on us all as we try to access the care we usually get by just going to our doctors and asking for it.
Unfortunately, if you like your doctor, Obamacare will make it so much harder to deal with him in the future.

Here is a small snippet of the chart:

Obamacare is About Controlling Every Aspect of Your Life

-By Warner Todd Huston

Peter Fleckenstein spent a huge amount of time reading H.R. 3200 and found hundreds of provisions that do nothing less than give government complete control of our very lives. This is a stark list that should frighten any freedom loving American from any support for this anti-American president and his socialist Congressional majority. Aside from this frightening list, Fleckenstein has more at his site http://blog.flecksoflife.com.

Read on and be afraid… be very afraid of Obama’s un-American plans to control your life:

  • Sec. 113, Pg. 21-22 of the Health Care (HC) Bill MANDATES a government audit of the books of ALL EMPLOYERS that self-insure in order to “ensure that the law does not provide incentives for small and mid-size employers to self-insure”!
  • Sec. 122, Pg. 29, Lines 4-16 – YOUR HEALTH CARE WILL BE RATIONED!

Obamacare’s Abortion Fight Heats Up

-By Warner Todd Huston

Steven Ertelt raised the alarm today that Congressional Democrats are looking for ways to sneak federally funded abortion into Obama’s massive take over of one sixth of the nation’s economy by nationalizing our healthcare system.

Senator Chuck Grassley (R, Iowa) is warning of the Democrat’s abortion funding plans, as well. “On abortion, despite commitments made by the President and Secretary Sebelius,” Grassely warned, “this bill does not follow the longstanding principle that federal funds should not be provided for elective abortions.”

But pro-life forces are not sitting idly by.

Kirk Lambastes Obama Over Missile Shield Policy Change

-By Warner Todd Huston

Mark Kirk may not be on the right side of economics, abortion, the homosexual lobby, and a host of other issues, but he is 100% right on his position that President Obama is wrong with his decision to reverse course on the European missile shield.

On Thursday morning, after Obama’s announcement of the missile shield policy change Kirk came out swinging against the president saying that “History is not kind to leaders who sacrifice our Polish allies.” Kirk went on:

Illinois Republican Representative Mark Kirk called the president’s decision a blow to Poland and an encouragement to Iran.

“Iran, a state sponsor of terrorists, now makes the longest-range missile of the terrorist world,” said Mark Kirk. “The administration’s decision is particularly ironic because Poland just announced it would be sending more troops to serve alongside Americans in Afghanistan. America is going to let Poland down, sending a message of weakness to our Polish allies and the people building Iran’s new missile arsenal.”

Kirk is right on with this. Obama has bent over backwards to appease our enemies in Russia and has opened the door for the proto-Soviet Putin to begin to bully surrounding democratic states without fear of a weak Obama crossing him. Obama has abandoned our Eastern European allies with this horrible decision.

Sadly, it appears that every time a Democrat becomes president, no ally can be sure of American support afterward. Democrats simply can be trusted with neither our foreign policy nor our security.

Kirk Suddenly a “No” on Cap and Tax?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Rep. Mark Kirk (R, IL) has been getting hammered by conservatives and moderate Republicans alike for his “yes” vote on the Cap and Trade bill. But at a recent appearance Kirk suddenly said he now intends to vote against the disastrous bill.

The Obama administration admits that the Cap and Trade legislation will cost every American family and additional $1,761 a year and likely that is on the low side. Conservatives have slammed Kirk for supporting this economy killing carbon emissions capping legislation.

On the 5th at a suburban rally, Kirk announced his switcheroo amidst many loud boos and catcalls. “About cap and trade: I voted for it because it was in the narrow interests of my congressional district. But as your representative, representing the entire state of Illinois, I will vote ‘No’ on that bill coming up.”

Well, this sure seems like an opportunistic flip flop, doesn’t it? Now that he’s running for Senate he’s found that his cap and tax “yes” vote is proving to be an impediment to his campaign and suddenly he finds his principles again?

I guess Kirk should be congratulated for finally coming to his senses and actually representing his constituents’ desires, but the fact that he thought he could make a dash for the cash (he voted cap and tax because of donations by enviro-nazi groups) without bothering with principle or representing his constituents in the first place marks him as an opportunist of the worst sort.

Kirk’s reversal is at the three minute, ten second mark in the video:

Ill. Dem Refuses to Vote On Joe Wilson Admonishment

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, this is an interesting turn of events. Representative Bill Foster (14th District, D, Batavia) decided not to vote “yes” to admonish Joe Wilson in the House of Representatives this week.

Instead of taking a stand to admonish or not to admonish, he decided to cast a “present” vote. Foster said he didn’t vote to admonish Wilson — like most of his fellow Democrats did — because it detracts from serious business. “Congress has better things to do at this time,” Foster said.

The rest of the Illinois Democrats voted “yes” to admonish Rep. Joe Wilson (R, SC) for yelling “you lie” during the president’s healthcare speech in an apparent violation of House conduct rules.

Obama’s Healthcare Speech Putting Democrats in a Bind

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Associated Press is reporting that Democratic lawmakers are having trouble adding any of Obama’s prescriptions for the nation’s healthcare troubles after the president’s speech delivered before a joint session of Congress last week.

Not only are they having troubles adding Obama’s ideas at this late date, some Congressmen are even saying it is impossible to do so. Many have no desire to do so.

Rep. Charlie Rangel (D, NY), for instance, is saying that hitting the $900 billion funding target is “very difficult,” because keeping the tab that low would reduce coverage for “poor and working people.” Other Democrats are saying that Obama’s claim that he won’t sign the bill “if it adds one dime to the deficit” because all understand that this will kill anything they try to do with Obamacare.

Pols also mentioned that Obama’s request on Medicare prescription drug benefits would also be “difficult” citing costs.

Lastly, the fact that the administration hasn’t bothered to inform us all of the total costs for all of Obama’s healthcare ideas from last week isn’t helping anyone figure out how to satisfy the president’s policy ideas.

Not The Party of No, GOP’s Offered Many Healthcare Bills

-By Warner Todd Huston

For months the Old Media, President Obama, and the Democrats have been jabbing the GOP for being the “party of no” and for not offering any healthcare ideas of its own. Byron York of the Washington Examiner, however, reveals the facts behind this epithet and finds the attack to be false. The truth is, the GOP has offered all sorts of ideas and bills, not that the Democrats have bothered to entertain any of them.

We learned earlier in the week that Obama hasn’t invited GOP leaders to the White House since April. And there’s been report after report that Democrats either don’t need or don’t want to bother with Republicans during this process. All this despite Obama’s happy-talk of how he wants bi-partisanship.

Rep. Shimkus Walks Out on Obama Healthcare Speech

– By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois Representative John Shimkus was “fed up” with the lack of new ideas in President Obama’s healthcare speech Wednesday. So, nearing the end of the speech, he got up and walked out in disgust.

“Congressman Shimkus was frustrated that the president was not offering any new ground and left with just minutes remaining in the speech,” spokesman Steven Tomaszewski said today in response to our question about the late-speech walk-out.

“Regardless of the words the president used, the tone did not bring Republicans on board,” the congressman’s spokesman said. “As George Stephanopoulos said, ‘He was right on the edge of anger,’ and as Rachel Maddow said, ‘I think liberals will be happy.'”

Shimkus is the 19th District Congressman from Madison County (southwest near St. Louis).

Revenue Neutral? Hardly!

-By Warner Todd Huston

A couple of stories have recently come out that really put the lie to President Obama’s claims that “his” healthcare bill is revenue neutral. These on top of the original plan-killing news that came out of the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office in July. In July the CBO said that Obama’s plan was clocking in at over a trillion dollars and said there would be no savings despite the rosy picture that the administration tried to paint for it all.

Early in September, the CBO dealt Obamacre yet another body blow to its claims of fiscal savings. CNSNews reports that the current House health bill will hike Medicare drug coverage premiums twenty percent forcing seniors to pay more for the same coverage they currently have.

“Overall, CBO estimates that enacting the proposed changes would lead to an average increase in premiums for Part D beneficiaries, above those under current law, of about 5 percent by 2011,” CBO Director Douglas Elmendorf said to Camp in a letter. “That effect would rise over time and reach about 20 percent in 2019.”

So much for “helping” Seniors save costs!

Kooks Now Run The Asylum, Part 1

-By Frederick Meekins

Every four years, the inauguration of the President sets the tone for the direction in which those in the highest executive office hope to steer the nation. Since that is the case, the American people should be very concerned about the lunacy put on display at the swearing in of Barack Obama from beginning to end.

With the gays going into the theatrical hysterics those of that proclivity are renowned for over the invocation delivered by Rick Warren, one would have hoped for something more theologically profound. However, many have no doubt heard sounder sentiments emanating from four year olds saying grace over crackers and juice.

Billy Graham in his heyday Warren is not. From Warren’s words, one could have easily come away assuming God did not know Obama was Black. Warren said, “…we celebrate a hinge point of history with the inauguration of the first African American president of the United States…We know today that Dr. King and a great cloud of witnesses are shouting in heaven.”

These things didn’t even need to be mentioned. For decades now, we have been repeatedly told that it is not the color of skin but rather the content of character that counts.

Rep. Wilson Apologizes to The White House

-By Warner Todd Huston

Dang it. Here I thought we had a new hero on the conservative side. Representative Joe Wilson (R- SC) yelled out “you lie” when the president DID lie during his healthcare speech Wednesday night. Now news has it that Wilson has called the White House to apologize.

Just when I thought we had a Republican with a spine, he whimps out on us.

Obama insisted that “his” plan (which is not his plan at all) would not cover illegal aliens with free healthcare coverage. The problem with Obama’s insistence that illegals aren’t covered the truth is they are. Many sources have proven that Obamacare does, indeed, cover illegals.

So, when Obama said it didn’t during his address to the joint session, Wilson passionately called out that Obama was a liar.

Wilson was right. Obama was lying.

Too bad Wilson lost his spine after this initial good showing.

Obama’s Newest Healthcare Sales Pitch: Lies and Damned Lies… I Mean HIS!

-By Warner Todd Huston

The snake-oil salesman in chief offered “his” healthcare prescriptions this Wednesday night. What he’s been selling the last 5 months is anyone’s guess, but be that as it may, here are my reactions to tonight’s message written as I listened (a sort of delayed live blog, as it were).

First of all let’s be honest. Anything the President said tonight really isn’t very meaningful. After all, the bills have already been written and are out of committee. No rewrites will be in the offing because of what Obama said tonight. But the fact that he assembled this joint session is evidence that he knows he is in trouble with his healthcare ideas. This was a Hail Mary pass, for sure.

Obama started with his assessment of the economy since when he spoke to Congress last. “A full and vibrant economy is still many months away,” he told us. Naturally he claimed that his “bold and decisive” actions pulled us back from the brink. This is a tad hard to believe as we are still seeing deep job losses.

Obama opened his healthcare discussion by saying he is “determined to be the last” president to discuss healthcare. This is a bit odd since he is proposing that government take over our healthcare system. Realizing that federalizing our healthcare system certainly means that every president from this point forward will have to deal with healthcare. If “his” plan gets through he most assuredly won’t be the “last” president to talk about healthcare. Many, many more presidents will have this mess to deal with.

Obama Talks Healthcare Tonight and it Doesn’t Matter

-By Warner Todd Huston

President Obama is going to offer “his” healthcare prescriptions tonight at a special joint session of Congress. But why is he doing this now? After all, the bills are already written and most of the committees have already passed their versions out of committee. What is it that Obama will say that will make any difference at all tonight?

Does the president imagine that “his” ideas will send Congress running back to the drawing board after they’ve already gotten their bills written and passed from committee? If he imagines that he is pretty naive.

We have several other eyebrow raisers with this joint session address, as well. First of all is the whole claim that Obama will suddenly at this late date offer “his” plan. How is it that President Obama has spent the last five months talking about his Obamacare plan but we are only now hearing “his” plan? What has he been talking about for all these many months? Hasn’t he been selling this as his plan all along?

If he hasn’t been selling these healthcare plans as “his” plan all along, then what was he selling? Did he even know? Did the president have any idea at all about what he was talking about lo these many months?

Are Voters Fed Up at Last? Ohio Congressman Turner Gets Slammed for Earmarks

-By Warner Todd Huston

Much to his dismay, Congressman Mike Turner of Ohio’s 3rd District has just discovered a new attitude from his voters. Unfortunately, it’s a lesson that congress isn’t likely to learn too quickly. But let’s see if Congressman Turner will.

Until now there has been an averting of the eyes at the overspending of “my” congressman. The individual voters have for decades been willing to excuse their own congressman for bringing home the pork even as they complain at the wild over spending by congress as a whole.

For a very long time the voters have been upset at spending by congress, but they’ve completely ignored the excesses of their own congressman because, after all, his wild spending came home to them. Voters have been willing to overlook their own pork if it’s their pork.

But if a recent tea party rally in Ohio is any indication, this permissive attitude so long exhibited by voters might finally be about to change.

Responsible Taxation: Jeff Danklefsen Seeks Haster’s Old 14th Dist. Seat

-By Warner Todd Huston

Political newcomer Jeff Danklefsen has announced his intention to seek the GOP nomination for the 14th District Congressional seat, the one once held by Speaker of the House Denny Hastert.

Mr. Danklefsen is a twelve-year resident of Geneva and seems to have been driven to run for Congress by his involvement in the Kane County Tea Party movement. He has no “political resume,” but says he’s ready to lead.

I do not have a political resume, but I understand the challenges families face with increasing tax burdens and the uncertainty of the job market. I am asking for the opportunity to represent the 14th District taxpayers in Washington D.C. I will stand up for responsible taxation, a balanced budget, and job growth.

The central message on Danklefsen’s website is that of the fiscal irresponsibility of Speaker Pelosi and her Democrat comrades including current 14th District Congressman Bill Foster.

Danklefsen joins several other GOP hopefuls seeking the nomination.

Two Americas or One Nation with Liberty & Justice for All

-By Nancy Salvato

Fundamental law is the key to maintaining the rights and freedoms of every citizen in the United States of America. It is questionable how many people actually understand what is considered fundamental law, or why it is referred to as such. The US Constitution and the Bill of Rights -which was promised as part of the ratification of the US Constitution in order to ensure its passage-, are both considered to be the fundamental law of the United States. These documents, along with the Declaration of Independence are commonly referred to as our founding documents – the Charters of Freedom.

Fundamental law is so important to this society that the justices working in our federal judicial system are sworn to uphold it. Every case that comes before the Supreme Court brings into question fundamental law. If a law or decision contradicts fundamental law, it is to be overturned. The only way to change the fundamental law of our nation is through the amendment process and in the history of our country, this has only occurred 27 times, including the first 10 amendments to the US Constitution -which are encompassed in the Bill of Rights.

Every President and every US Representative and Senator take an oath of elected office, swearing to uphold the US Constitution.

Dems Now to Go it Alone on Healthcare, Dumping Bi-Partisanship?

-By Warner Todd Huston

The New York Times is reporting that Congressional Democrats and the White House are now completely abandoning the claim that they want a bi-partisan healthcare “reform” bill thereby confirming conservative claims that no compromise is coming from the left with healthcare policies.

The spin from Democrats is that Republicans are at fault for the lack of bi-partisanship because if their “strident” stance against Obamacare.

Top Democrats said Tuesday that their go-it-alone view was being shaped by what they saw as Republicans’ purposely strident tone against health care legislation during this month’s Congressional recess, as well as remarks by leading Republicans that current proposals were flawed beyond repair.

Of course, the truth is that the GOP has not been included in any meaningful way since the beginning. Democrats have reached out to just the few Republicans that they think they can cajole to join their ideas, but there has been no effort at all to include GOP leaders in the healthcare debate.
