Another Fake Republican On the Ballot in Illinois

-By Warner Todd Huston

So, with a headline like that above perhaps you might imagine that I, a conservative, will launch into another attack on a Republican that just isn’t Republicany enough for me, right? You might think that this will be just another hard-line blogger attacking another “moderate” Republican, right? Well, by “fake Republican” I mean just that: fake.

Putting fake candidates on the ballot is a game that Chicago Democrats play in every election. Every election they put fake Republicans up against real Republicans in primary elections. What the Democrat Party does is put several shill candidates on ballots to drain votes from the real Republican candidate and to confuse voters. Sometimes Democrats even float fake Democrat opponents in order to make sure a particular Democrat wins by splitting away dissident votes to shill candidates.

Old GOP Doesn’t ‘Get’ Tea Parties

-By Warner Todd Huston

Neil Cavuto of Fox News had a visit with former Vice President Dan Qualyle on Jan 13. Ostensibly the interview was about the earthquake in Haiti and the efforts that Quayle was saying needed to be made for the victims there, but Cavuto also asked the former veep about his feelings about the Tea Party movement. Quayle’s reply was revealing in that he proved that he really didn’t know how to think about the Tea Partiers. I think that Quayle is in exactly the same confused state that most of the old guard GOP is. They just don’t get it.

Cavuto asked what Quayle thought of the Tea Party movement and what it portended for the Republican Party and Quayle’s reply was that the GOP had to “co-opt” the Tea Partiers back into the GOP.

Sorry, Dan old pal, but that is wrong, wrong, wrong. The GOP had better understand that it is the Tea Partiers that have the upper hand here and the party also better understand that THEY must be the ones to become “co-opted.” It ain’t the other way ’round, Danny!

10th District: Fmr VP Quayle Endorses Dold

From the Bob Dold for Congress campaign…

As many of you know, Robert Dold was honored to receive the endorsement of former Vice President Dan Quayle this week. Quayle, who traveled to Northbrook Thursday on Robert’s behalf, told friends and supporters that he is confident that Robert’s goal of bringing small business common sense change to Washington is exactly what the people of the 10th District need. Quayle said Bob’s background in small business and in Washington, combined with his fiscally conservative values and deep roots in the 10th District, make him the best candidate for Congress. A seasoned veteran of not only the White House, but also the House and Senate, Quayle invested his faith in Robert as the next great Republican Congressman from Illinois.

Topinka Dodges Debate With Dodge

From the Jim Dodge for Comptroller campaign…

Jim Dodge, Republican Candidate for Illinois Comptroller, will appear on WTTW Channel 11’s ‘Chicago Tonight’ Monday, January 18 at 7 p.m., but his opponent Judy Baar Topinka has refused to appear on the show.

“‘ChicagoTonight’ producers said they invited Ms. Topinka and opened up any day of the week that would fit her schedule, but she has stated she will not appear on the program because her own schedule will not permit,” said Dean Casper, Dodge Campaign Manager. “We were willing to be flexible with ‘Chicago Tonight’ so as to get all Republican Comptroller Candidates on the show to discuss the issues. Ms. Topinka is avoiding debating us on television because in various forums for endorsements from Republican Townships and Counties, Jim Dodge has solidly beaten her winning more than a dozen. She is worried the public will see she is conducting business as usual and will not bring the necessary reform needed in Springfield like Jim Dodge will.”

Corrupt Politics in Cook County Illinois, Some History

-By Warner Todd Huston

There is a saying about Chicago’s weather: if you don’t like the weather, wait 10 minutes it’ll change. This, of course, is an allusion to the fact that the weather in Chicago is often unpredictable with every season but winter seeming all too short. The rains come, the winds blow, the snow falls and the chill descends with amazing rapidity. Naturally, this saying can be adapted to Cook County politics as well as the weather. If you don’t like a politician, wait a few weeks and they’ll likely be in jail.

Of course, it isn’t just Cook County, home of the City of Chicago, but it holds for the entire state. Illinois has had three governors sent to prison and a fourth, Rod Balgojevich, waiting to find out if he will become the next to take up residence behind bars. The “Land of Lincoln” has had over 80 legislators sent to prison since the 1970s. But Cook County deserves special recognition for its corruption and criminal politicians.*

Robert Lombardo wrote an excellent history of Cook County corruption where political corruption is front and center. Speaking of an early criminal politician, Lombardo paints a colorful picture of one Michael Cassius McDonald.

Publius Forum Republican Primary Endorsements

-By Warner Todd Huston

As a follower of politics who wants to associate with other followers of politics, the worst thing one can do to muck things up is to make a public endorsement of a candidate for office. As soon as you pick a candidate you risk a schism with friends. It won’t take long before some of them will begin to look aghast at you, raise a pointing finger and start making that screeching noise that the pod people in Invasion of the Body Snatchers made when they found an evil human amongst them. It is the best way to get people to scream “you’re no REAL (insert party affiliation here)!!”

Yes, politics is a hard game; it ain’t bean ball, as the saying goes. Still, we are all compelled to make our choice to show that we’ve been paying attention at least. Then there’s that whole citizenship “thang” where it’s our duty as citizens to make an informed choice. So, at the risk of becoming an enemy to the masses, here are my choices for the upcoming primaries.

Senate
There are only two credible candidates for Senate, John Arrington and Patrick Hughes.

Mark Kirk’s campaign commercials portray him as a “center right candidate.” This is a lie. Kirk’s career rating from nearly every conservative group shows him to rank 50% or less on a conservative scale. This makes him a center left candidate, not a center right candidate. So, Kirk is not a contender for me.

Welfare Skanks, Obama Effigies & French Thought Police: Headline Potpourri #12

-By Frederick Meekins

Albert Mohler’s sidekick Russel Moore denounced the Obama Effigy as “Satanic”. Was this theologian as outspoken in condemning similar outrageous attacks against other political figures such President Bush and Sarah Palin? More importantly, would he now care to speak out against the Founding Fathers for similar protests against King George during the Revolutionary War, or is this form of protest only immoral when directed against a Black person?

New York City health officials in a pamphlet are teaching junkies the proper method for shooting up dope. Yet it must be pointed out that this is the jurisdiction where scholastic bakesales are on the verge of prohibition and where, if city officials had their way, table salt would be frowned upon apparently more now than hard narcotics.

French thought police plot to invade private homes. This is to be done in the name of preventing “psychological violence” by criminalizing robust domestic verbal disagreements. However, what advocates of this law might not be telling you is that, to the left-leaning man-haters out there, this offense consists of little more than simply disagreeing with a woman, verbally boring into a woman during a spat started by a woman, or merely speaking to one when they’ve basically told you to shutup.

Chgo Trib Wants ‘Reform,’ Yet Endorses Machine Candidates

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Dec. 27th, the Chicago Tribune sternly scolded our Illinois political class saying that we need “reform” in Illinois. The Trib announced that with all the past corruption they’d had “enough.” And they promised to launch a “pre-primary push to elect better” politicians.

Well, who could disagree with that? Illinois has one of the most corrupt, most indebted, least transparent, most inbred political scene in the country. It is rife with corruption on both sides of the political divide and we are ripe for change. So, yes, we all can agree with the Chicago Tribune that we need to clean up this political cesspool. The “Chicago Way” that has now invaded Washington D.C. should be eliminated back here at home.

So, hear, hear, Chicago Tribune. We agree. You are a fast friend to the weak and downtrodden. A champion of the common man. A paragon of reform, etc., etc.

Yep, all that horn tootin’ was great, Trib. So, let’s see how you did with picking candidates to endorse

Ill. GOP Chairman Reacts to Guv’s State of State Report

-By Warner Todd Huston

Just got a reply to Governor Pat Quinn’s laughable State of the State address issued by Chairman Pat Brady of the Illinois Republican Party…

“Governor Quinn’s State of the State address today exemplifies the Illinois Democratic Party’s disconnect from reality. We are a state on the verge of financial collapse. A laundry list of government created jobs, government programs and a bail-out from the Federal Government is not a serious approach to economic and fiscal recovery. We can’t wish away a $90 billion unfunded pension liability.”

“The People of the State of Illinois will have a clear choice in November between the failed policies of the Quinn/Blagojevich/Madigan single-party rule Democrats and the fiscally responsible approach to running this state articulated by each of our Republican Gubernatorial candidates.”

EARLY VOTING IS ON!! Vote in the Illinois Republican Primary Today

-By Warner Todd Huston

You don’t have to wait until February 2 to cast your vote in the Illinois Republican Primary.

That’s because Illinois Early Voting has begun – and you can cast your vote now!

That’s right, in Illinois you can vote early between now and Thursday, January 28. To find your local Early Voting location(s), click HERE.

You don’t need a reason to vote early – other than the fact that it makes voting more convenient to you.

Beat the long lines – and potential bad weather on Election Day – and vote early. You just need to be a registered voter and have a government-issued photo ID (such as a Drivers License).

NOTE: In Illinois, there is no such thing as a “Registered Republican,” “Registered Democrat,” or “Registered Independent.” If you’re registered to vote, you can vote in the Republican Primary and help choose our winning team for 2010!

If you are not registered to vote but meet the legal requirements to become a registered voter, you can register and vote at your County Clerk or Election Authority office until Thursday, January 28 under the “Grace Period” registration system. Contact your County Clerk or Election Authority for more information.

Fiscal Realism: Interview With Adam Andrzejewski Candidate for Illinois Governor

-By Warner Todd Huston

First of all, I know it looks impossible to even say, so let’s clear up that last name. It’s pronounced An-gee-ef-ski. I know, I know, that means here in Illinois we could possibly go from a Governor Blagojevich to an Andrzejewski. But the difficult last name should stand as the only similarity between the two men, for Adam seems to have some ideas on how Illinois might get out of its fiscal nightmare. I interviewed him not long ago and he had some very interesting thoughts on how to fix Illinois. (adamforillinois.com)

In fact, Andrzejewski has already made some headway in shining the sunlight of accountability on various sate and local agencies through his self-funded program — self-funded to stay independent, he said — dubbed “For the Good of Illinois.” Andrzejewski has been at the vanguard of encouraging school boards and county governments in Illinois to put their check registries and finances on the Internet for all citizens to see. In fact, his catch phrase is “every dime online in real time.”

Book Review: What Are These Tea Parties About, Anyway?

-By Warner Todd Huston

A new book about the Tea Party movement — and a movement it really is — will soon be hitting the shelves. “A New American Tea Party” penned by John M. O’Hara, one of the many folks that helped bring us some of those protests in early 2009, is a book that hopes that the reader will come away understanding and appreciating the Tea Party movement as a truly grassroots happening, a spontaneous outpouring of interest backed by true red, white and blue American ideals.

Author O’Hara, himself an early Tea Party organizer in Washington D.C. and the Chicago area, answers several questions with the book: what sparked the Tea Parties; is the name “Tea Party” itself a proper sobriquet; what do they mean; what does the future hold; and how do you make more?

The first thing one might notice is that O’Hara writes in a crisp, conversational style with short subchapters. This makes it ideal for reading bits at a time. This is not a dense treatment and I think his style makes the book very accessible to people of all ages — without talking down to the young or dumbing it down for the more advanced reader.

Public Schools: My Answer to Their Problems!

-By Don Boys, Ph.D.

This is my application to President Obama to be appointed his Education Czar thereby solving the massive problems in the nation’s public schools. I will work without pay since I would not plan to have the job very long. The public schools have been kicked around a great deal in recent years, and I plan to kick them even more. I contend that public education gets far more respect than it deserves. If taxpayers really knew what was going on in most classrooms they would storm the schools and tar and feather the teachers and staff.

Full disclosure: I am a lifetime critic of public education. Most of my education was in Christian colleges and universities. All of my children were educated in Christian schools through the university level. Same with my grandchildren. I would not be saddened if public schools fell to the ground like a rotten piece of fruit. I believe in separation of school and state since there is not a word in the U. S. Constitution about education!

If I were the Education Czar, I would make major changes that would restore sanity, safety, and scholarship to schools:

Video: Coakley Buys her Union Support

-By Warner Todd Huston

Queen of the Internet tubuals, Michelle Malkin, published a letter from a Massachusetts reader that revealed the extents that unions are going to in order to keep in Democrat hands the Senate seat that Teddy “the lesser” Kennedy held. This seat appears increasingly at risk, though, if the latest polls are any indication. Unions are rallying to support Democrat candidate Martha Coakley, but it doesn’t seem to be helping.

This video shows that union members admitting that they are being paid to stand and rally for Democrat Coakley.

Not realizing he was being video taped, a member of the “Sheet Metal Workers” union, Local 17, admitting that he was being forced to come down to hold a sign, but he’s at least being paid $50. He also openly admits that he’s voting for Brown, then promptly “high-5’s” Angel.

By the way, it might not have been much help that candidate Coakley misspelled the name of her state in her TV ad recently! Hat tip to JammieWearingFool for that hilarity.

Rudy Flub Brings Out Vultures

-By Warner Todd Huston

For several days now the Old Media has been indulging in a steady attack on former Mayor Rudy Giuliani that tends to misdirect readers away from his criticism of President Obama. First by making what Giuliani said of Obama seem more adulatory than it was and second by focusing on a rather unexceptional remark that is spun as a presumed mistake in the Mayor’s statements about the recent history of terror attacks in the U.S. This misdirected focus tends to detract from Giuliani’s fair criticism of Obama turning it instead into a slam on Giuliani.

The latest slew of Rudy hits has been over his presumed misstatement that no terror attacks occurred during Bush’s years in office. The critics are guffawing over what they claim is Rudy’s “neglect” to mention the attacks on 9/11. In an appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Giuliani said, “We had no domestic attacks under Bush. We’ve had one under Obama.” This, the Old Media claims, is an example of Rudy “somehow” forgetting that 9/11 occurred.

Of this the Associated Press published a wire story that breathlessly proclaimed “Giuliani: No domestic terror attacks under Bush.” The story went on to scold Giuliani because he “somehow neglected to mention” 9/11.
