Chicago Tea Party Patriots Co-Sponsor first Tea Party Presidential Debate

The Tea Party Express is partnering with CNN for the first ever Tea Party Presidential debate. We’re honored to have been selected as a co-sponsor of the debate. This is a huge victory for the movement because before last year’s mid-term election victories no news network would have partnered with any tea party group to do anything like this. Two years ago, Kathy Barkulis challenged CNN reporter Susan Roesgen at the first Chicago Tax Day Tea Party and now CNN is partnering with the tea party. This shows how far the movement has come. The debate will be held on September 12, 2011 in Tampa, FL, the location of the 2012 Republican convention.

Cook County GOP Chair Race

-By Warner Todd Huston

Lee Roupas is now the Retiring Cook County GOP Party Chairman and that means the race is on. It looks like we have at least three people with their hats thrown in the ring to succeed Roupas.

The most well known is Ruth O’Connell, currently a Republican committeeman of Wheeling Township as well as an elected Township Trustee not to mention the main power behind the Republicans of Wheeling Township.

Ruth has been a tireless organizer of the Wheeling area and has built a very active GOP organization. Due to her work, the Wheeling area has won a lot of weighted votes in the Cook County GOP organization. In fact, her township has the highest GOP weighted vote of any other township or ward in the county.

The Palin’s “One Nation” bus tour seeking to highlight “our nation’s heart, history and founding principles.”

Palin said this about the rally, “Gatherings like this of independent liberty-loving Americans from every walk of life exemplify our commitment to come together to seek solutions to the problems confronting our nation…We don’t need a ‘fundamental transformation’ of America. We need a restoration of all that is good and strong and free. The 2012 election will be a great debate between those two conflicting visions for our country.”

Now THIS is a Political Ad: Roger Williams for Congress – The Donkey Whisperer

-By Warner Todd Huston

That’s right, this is one of the best ads since Dale Peterson who didn’t “give a rip.”

It’s got nice animals, it’s got pathos and bite, it gets its point across easily and all the while it does so in a quiet, softspoken and good natured way.

Get ready for Roger Williams for the Texas 33rd District

The 33rd District is one of the new ones that Texas picked up with reapportionment. Williams was Perry’s Sec. of State and now wants to go to Washington D.C. I don’t know what sort of politician Mr. Williams is, but this is one good ad.

It’s A Weak GOP Field Facing Romney

-By Collin Corbett

Jon Huntsman, fighting to gain traction in his presidential bid, took a jab at frontrunner Mitt Romney in New Hampshire this week saying, in reference to the recent debt ceiling debate, “to dodge the debate or to wait until the debate is over effectively and to take a side, I don’t consider that to be leadership.” Huntsman is absolutely right, but when it comes to Romney’s Presidential campaign, he’s following the straightest possible path to the Presidency. Romney’s best strategy, running contrary to what seems logical, is to stay out of the Primary fray, mostly out of the news, and as far away from controversy as possible. He may not be creating as much of a buzz or leading on current issues as many would like, but right now he’s showing definite leadership in the one area that matters most to his campaign: the polls. Hovering above 20% and in first in all major polls, Romney does not need to stick his head out in a debate or attack his opponents, a stark contrast from where he stood four years ago.

Around this time during the 2008 primaries, Romney trailed Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson and John McCain in every poll and was forced to run a momentum-based campaign: the same strategy many of the challengers have to employ today. Since coming up short then, Romney has essentially been running as the front-runner for the 2012 nod, all while avoiding the over exposure that could allow voters to outright reject him and move on to another candidate.

A majority of Republican Primary voters are looking for someone, anyone but Romney. Romney hasn’t even put much effort into energizing the base, knowing that eventually Primary voters will come home. Following the GOP South Carolina debate in May, a Fox News focus group hosted by Frank Luntz expressed some disappointment that Romney had decided to forgo the early debate. However, Romney pulled 24% of likely Primary voters in a PPP poll that same week, fending off Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin who polled second and third respectively. It is obvious that regardless of what Romney does, or doesn’t do (absent a misstep), he won’t see serious movement in the polls. He needs to let voters flirt with other candidates for a while before they eventually come home and marry him, or they’ll never be content.

Union Astroturf Pretends Like Tea Partiers to Attack GOP

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Hill has an interesting, if not a bit slanted, report about the faux grassroots efforts of unions and left-wing advocates to pretend they are somehow just like the Tea Party by attacking the town hall meetings of various GOP congressman across the country this Summer.

The Hill dutifully reports without complaint the union’s claims that they are organizing just like the Tea Partiers and forcing GOP congressmen to face “angry protests at home” this month in a “replication” of the Tea Party backlash that “bit” Democrats in 2009.

“Liberal groups have been planning these protests for months,” trumpets The Hill, “One organizer told The Hill in February that the campaign would ‘build to a crescendo’ in August.”

These protests have been organized by Obama’s supporters in government unions like the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the AFL-CIO as well as far left NGOs such as MoveOn.org, Campaign for America’s Future and others.

Honoring the Constitution with a Day of Training

From the Chicago Tea Party…

When Benjamin Franklin left the Pennsylvania State House after signing the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787, the wife of the mayor of Philadelphia approached him to ask what the new American government would be. Franklin replied, “A republic, madam. If you can keep it.” On Constitution Day 2011, we will continue the fight to keep it with the largest one-day training of conservative activists ever. American Majority will hold training in 13 states across the country, and we’ve been honored to have Chicago chosen as one of the locations. Join the Chicago Tea Party and American Majority for a day of training on Saturday, September 17, the 224th anniversary of the day the framers signed our nation’s founding document.

The principles of limited government and individual freedom are being challenged by an all too powerful federal government in Washington.. Understanding there is a problem is not enough. Protesting is not enough. For us to turn this country around, informed and engaged citizens must be equipped with the tools to bring about real change. There’s no better day than Constitution Day to bring thousands of Americans together to learn how they can ensure we continue to live in a free society.

Palatine Tea Party: Thoughts from a Fellow Patriot

For the past weeks all we have been hearing about is the debt ceiling and the doomsday “Downgrade of our economy” and now the DINO’s (Democrats in Name Only) are blaming the TEA Party” and how much WE messed up the debt ceiling deal? Well… they came up with the deal and now we have been downgraded anyway. Lot of good it did us and while everyone was worried about that…how much else was going on behind the debt talks that the media did not tell us about. The latest one that made me scratch my head, President Obama’s bus tour. Paid for by taxpayers because it is a “jobs creation” tour not a “campaign tour.” What!!! REALLY??? When has this President stopped campaign since 2008? Are the Republicans going to let this happen and if so why?

First, lets identify who is sitting in DC, how long they have been there and their philosophical look at politics. We are all familiar with our feelings on RINOS (Republican In Name Only), the “old guard”. Well… we have the same thing on the left, DINOS (Democrats In Name Only) who are actually PROGRESSIVES. Where are the JFK Democrats? Many of the TEA Party, 912 Groups, Pachyderms, Campaign for Liberty etc…have a number of these Democrats in their groups that stand with the TEA Party on the basic issues that make us what we are, Bipartisan, and we stand and believe in Less Spending/Fiscal Responsibility, Smaller Government, Less Taxes, and the following of the Constitution.

Allen West Slams Ron Paul Over Debate Comments

-By Warner Todd Huston

Ron Paul certainly distanced himself from the other GOP candidates at the debate on the issue of foreign policy, didn’t he? He made himself seem like a head-in-the-sand, isolationist and his historical ignorance was amazing. Not only that but his simpleton approach to foreign policy was nothing short of breath taking. Well, Rep. Allen West similarly thought that Paul’s gabled ideas were dangerous and stated directly that Pau is “not the kind of guy you need to be sitting at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.”

Florida Representative Allen West, a former Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army who served in Iraq, was attending a Tea Party event in Fort Lauderdale, Florida late last week and made a few comments about Paul’s rambling at the Ames debate.

West told attendees that the threats to the USA are far more dangerous than Ron Paul’s simple minded claims tended to make them seem…

The Stunning Demonization of Fiscal Responsibility

-By Frank Salvato

Just when you thought the Progressive Movement could be more deeply invested in denial, now comes the absurd notion that somehow, the TEA Party Movement, whose pinnacle tenet is fiscal responsibility; which has devoutly insisted that the federal government cease the practice of spending beyond the tax revenue it gleans from taxpayers, that somehow it is the TEA Party Movement and their affiliated members of Congress who are responsible for the downgrade in the US credit rating by S&P and not the glad-handing spendthrifts of the big government, nanny state Progressive Movement.

“Bottom up, top down…inside out.”

Shameless partisan, Chicago Progressive operative and former senior advisor to Pres. Barack Obama, David “Say Anything, Lie, Cheat and Steal to Win” Axelrod is quoted as saying, “The fact of the matter is that this is essentially a Tea Party downgrade.”

Failure: Over $14 Mil Spent on Wisc. Recall By Liberal Groups, Unions

-By Warner Todd Huston

As a recap on the past recall effort that just occurred in Wisconsin, a final accounting shows that liberal groups spent over $14 million to beat the six Republicans that were up for recall. They failed in four of the six attempts and in the two they won, well, it was a pyrrhic victory to say the least. It all goes to show that money is not always the final arbiter of an election victory.

The MacIver Institute of Wisconsin has created a great graphic to diagram the spending the left indulged to recall these six Wisconsin Republicans. It was mostly union money, of course.

My Live Tweets of the August Fox GOP Debate

-By Warner Todd Huston

I usually live Tweet many events like this at my Twitter account: http://twitter.com/#!/warnerthuston. The Fox GOP debate is no exception.

As to the debate, who won and who lost?

I’d say Tim Pawlenty ended his run last night. His bickering with Michele Bachmann rattled him and made him look a bit silly. Tim lost but so did Rick Santorum who kept attacking Ron Paul for some crazy reason. Rick seemed like the queen of rage last night, not Bachmann.

As to Bachmann, she did not damage herself in the room, but a few of the things she said about Pawlenty’s past positions were a bit of a misrepresentation. Still, she could think on her feet and seemed in command of herself whereas Pawlenty was getting mad.

Rick Perry: A Major Squish on Immigration?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Many conservatives across the nation are panting in anticipation of the entry of Texas Governor Rick Perry in the race for the 2012 GOP nomination for president. With his jobs creation record and his undeniable conservative fiscal record, many can’t wait to see this tall Texan join the race. But former Congressman and one-time presidential candidate Tom Tancredo of Colorado begs to differ. He says Perry is no conservative, at least on matters of immigration.

Tancredo penned an op ed at Politico slamming Perry as an amnesty supporter and a major squish on immigration. In truth there is no way to explain away Tancredo’s criticism, either. It’s all pretty undeniable….

Perry Parries Iowan’s Ire

-By Warner Todd Huston

Texas Governor Rick Perry has made it known that he’s going to announce his candidacy for the GOP nomination for president at the Red State Conference in South Carolina on August 13, the same weekend as the Ames, Iowa straw poll. This didn’t sit well with the Iowa Republican blog. The paper called Perry’s timing a “slap in the face to Iowa Republicans.”

The Iowa GOP uses the well-publicized straw poll as a fundraiser for the party and it is also has a sort of pride of place being one of the early, notable primary time events. So, it is easy to see how the Iowans would be a tad upset that Perry decided to use another state on the same weekend to make his announcement. Iowa Republicans would naturally feel he should have used their own stomping grounds for his announcement…

Unions Lose BIG In Wisconsin Recall Efforts

-By Warner Todd Huston

Oh, the union thugs in Wisconsin will certainly try to act as if winning a mere two of the six recall elections of the Republican State Senators in the Cheese State was a big win… but it wasn’t. In fact, this recall nonsense shows that the union issues were a huge failure. After all, they even shied from using the union issues to push the recall efforts after they got going because they were looking like a losing issue.

In fact, the two Republicans that lost their effort to beat the recall were the two that were a bit odd as it is, so beating them doesn’t seem to be such a great triumph. And even at that the margins of defeat were not great. David Fredosso of the Washington Examiner puts it well:

In the end, the union-backed Democrats picked up only two state Senate seats in Wisconsin last night, at a staggering cost in time, effort, and of course money. One of the seats was solidly Democratic, held by a Republican due to an apparent fluke of nature. The other was held by an alleged adulterer who had moved outside his district to live with his young mistress, and whose wife was supporting his recall.

A Pyrrhic victory, there, for sure.

Unions and left-wing Democrat operative told us that the people of Wisconsin were furious at Governor Scott Walker and his GOP partners. We were told that “the people” would swarm to the recall election polls and throw the rascals out. But aside from the two problem children above, none of the elections were even close.

Pawlenty Video: Obama’s Empty Podium, Empty Presidency

-By Warner Todd Huston

Tim Pawlenty has a new ad out that hits Obama where it hurts the most: his utterly failed fiscal policies.

Tag Line: “Tim Pawlenty: Executive Experience Matters”

I would support Pawlenty over Obama, for sure. TPaw is right that Obama’s lack of experience makes him the worst of all candidates for the presidency.

It isn’t just Obama’s lack of executive experience, though. Obama has no experience at anything. He had an invisible stint at Harvard. He was a non-entity at the University of Chicago. He never published a thing of note in the legal or business world. He made no dent in the world of “community organizing.” He was a do nothing state senator and a do nothing federal senator. All he’s ever been is “Obama.”

This ad shows him for the feckless, bromide laden, no-account that he is.

Long Live the ‘Boogie’ Man

-By Frank Salvato

There is a lot of talk about our politicians today. Some of what I hear is good but a majority of what I hear is awful, as in we’re pretty upset that our elected class has taken to making excuses for not executing the will of their constituents, abdicating their responsibilities only to position for re-election and bolster their political parties. This happens on both sides of the aisle so, no, this isn’t a hit piece on one party of the other. It is a request that elected members of both parties stop, just for a minute, and examine their motives. Just what is the purpose of government; what are you trying to achieve?

In the wake of all of the rancor that surrounded the debt ceiling debate and subsequent legislation – a piece of legislation only eclipsed in poor quality by the partisan posturing that preceded its enactment – one thing has become quite apparent: the United States federal government has moved completely away from “protecting and serving” the American people and has, instead, become an exercise in societal engineering and transformation.

It is an exercise in societal engineering because increasingly we see elected officials unmasked only to be found zealous ideologues hell-bent on making people believe what they believe. It is almost the exact opposite of what representative government is supposed to be. In a true representative government the elected officials actually represents his or her constituents; he or she stands to express the concerns, fears and intentions of those who he or she represents, thus the moniker “public servant.”

Mr. President, Where Are The Jobs?

House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-22) released the following video : “Mr. President, Where are the Jobs?” There have been a lot of nice speeches about jobs. Now it’s time for speeches to stop and actions to begin. The President said it would be the “Recovery Summer” last year, but when you look at entrepreneurship over the last twelve months it’s been the lowest in a decade. It’s time to read the data, stop the speeches, and take action that creates jobs, empowers entrepreneurs and gets this country working again. Now is a time for action, not political posturing.

John Bambenek: The Status Quo is Unacceptable‏

From the John Bambenek for State Senate (52nd District)…

It’s been a little over a month on the campaign trail and I’ve been meeting lots of great people in Champaign and Vermilion counties. Everywhere I go, people are concerned about the state’s financial mess and looking for a Republican who will fight for our conservative values in Springfield. A few recent news items shows that the status quo is unacceptable.

  • Governor Quinn recently vetoed a health insurance bill that would have required him to provide fair health insurance options for downstate state employees.
  • Governor Quinn unilaterally ended contracts with Catholic Charities because they referred gay couples looking to adopt to other agencies, even though that arrangement has been in place for years.
  • More businesses have announced they are leaving or are considering doing so, including CME, which you may know as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. It’s a said day when the Chicago Merc is thinking about moving its operations out of Chicago.

And the list goes on. Now is the time for bold and committed conservative leadership who will take on the status quo that is driving jobs from our state. From my perspective, I want a state where my children will find the same (or better) opportunities than I have had and today, it looks like that might not be the case. I will fight for our families in Springfield and fight to eliminate the crippling tax burden on our families and small businesses.

How Did The Illinois GOP Delegation Vote on Boehner’s Debt Bill?

-By Warner Todd Huston

So, it was claimed to be the end of the world if Congress didn’t vote on the debt bill. But not every Illinois Republican voted to support GOP leader and House Speaker John Boehner’s bill. Let’s see how the Illinois GOP delegation voted, shall we?

The most vocal opponent of the bill was the 8th District’s Joe Walsh. He said that he could not, in good conscience, vote yes on the bill. Amusingly, he said in a radio interview on WLS that if he saw Speaker Boehner headed his way with the intent to change his mind, he’d turn and run the other way.

To his credit, Walsh did not try and claim that he would stand fast in the face of a direct Boehner appeal, but he did say that he was voting his conscience regardless.

Sen. Marco Rubio Wonders Where Obama’s Budget Plan Is?

-By Warner Todd Huston

It amazes me that after all this time of the debt crisis discussion, after the media has spent hours upon hours scolding Republicans for being the “party of no,” that President Obama has remained absent from the actual discussion and has offered no plan of his own.

Yet, even as Obama’s failure to lead has become painfully obvious to anyone actually paying attention, the Old Media has given no coverage of Obama’s abject failure to lead.

To so many in the general public that have not paid close attention, they listen to the Old Media’s overage and think it is the Republicans that have offered no plan. But, as Florida Senator Marco Rubio notes in the video below, it is the GOP that has offered multiple plans, multiple bills, multiple compromises while the Democrats have continually said no, no, no…

From the office of Rep. Adam Kinzinger (IL, 11th Dist.)…

Washington, D.C. – Today Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-11), issued the following statement upon House passage of the Budget Control Act:

“Over the course of seven months, House Republicans have changed the conversation in Washington from where to spend to where to cut and how much. Today, many of my colleagues and I in the House voted to reverse the failed trajectory.

“House Republicans recognize that we must pay back the bills that have been racked up by prior Congresses. We must get ourselves on a fiscal trajectory because our spending is out of control. We have the same tax rates, the same two wars, the same prescription drug benefit in 2007, and the same tax loopholes, but the deficit then was $161 billion. This year it’s $1.5 trillion.
