Attny Gen Holder Faces Subpoena in Fast & Furious Investigation

-By Warner Todd Huston

Rep. Darrell Issa has finally done what he threatened to do. Namely, issue U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder a subpoena in the Fast and Furious investigation. Now, I have sort of avoided some of the latest happenings in the F&F case because, well, I’m becoming F&F all the time here lately. But this one I can’t ignore.

Rep. Issa (R, Calif.) is heading the congressional investigation into F&F and he’s been stonewalled, lied to, and attacked by Obama, Eric Holder, and the entire administration. Apparently he’s had quite enough of it, too…

Obama’s Illegal Guns End Up In Arsenal of Killer in Mexican Drug Cartel

-By Warner Todd Huston

Reports are emerging that Mexican authorities have discovered in the home of an “enforcer” for the notorious Sinaloa drug cartel in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, guns that were illegally sold by Obama’s Fast and Furious program.

These are just some of the thousands of weapons that Obama’s BATF sold to straw purchasers who then transported them into the hands of Mexican narco-terrorists. And this one was a particularly dangerous man…

Holder vs White House: Who Is Accountable?

-By Warner Todd Huston

One of the worst Obama scandals continues to grow…

Courtesy Rep. Darrell Issa, House Committee on Oversight & Government Reform.

And as Mark Stein wondered today, why isn’t the media interested in the deaths of over 200 Mexicans killed by Obama’s gun running program?

Obama FINALLY Gets a Direct Question on F&F from Old Media, Naturally He Ignores Truth

-By Warner Todd Huston

Jake Tapper aimed a question on Fast and Furious right between Obama’s eyes during his monotonous and uninformative campaign appearance… er, I mean “press conference” … today. Naturally, Obama avoided the question and acted as if everything was juuuuuust fine.

During his nonsense about his so-called jobs bill, Tapper brought up both the Solyndra scandal and Fast and Furious…

BATF Officials Reassigned Over Fast and Furious

-By Warner Todd Huston

And the scandal grows. Now two officials of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATF) that were involved in the failed operation that armed Mexican narco-terrorists have been reassigned.

My guess, it’s likely an attempt to make it even harder for Congressional investigators get answers to their questions.

Fast And Furious Finally Starting to Get Some Old Media Coverage

-By Warner Todd Huston

After months and months of the new media hitting Obama on Fast and Furious, the Old Media is finally just starting to look into the story. Aside from the L.A. Times which, believe it or not, has been giving the story extensive coverage, few Old Media outlets have done much with this mounting scandal.

CNN has finally assigned Anderson Cooper to do at least one episode of his cable show on the subject, anyway. And Coop did a fairly even handed report on the mess, too…

Is Fast and Furious Obama’s Watergate?

-By Warner Todd Huston

If you want a comprehensive rundown of the debacle that is Obama’s disastrous Operation Fast and Furious scandal, you could click on every article linked at the bottom of my F&F entries here at Right Pundits. Orrrrr, you could go to Forbes and read the comprehensive wrap up of everything known about F&F in a well written piece by Frank Miniter.

One of the things that Miniter notes is something that can’t be stressed enough. The guy that replaced BATF Acting Director Kenneth Melson, the first fall guy that the Obama administration has tried to pin this mess on, has been replaced by a guy that was just as involved in this scandal as Melson…

Obama Ignores F&F Questions From Latino Media, Also F&F Guns At Texas Crime Scenes

-By Warner Todd Huston

At a recent press availability for Latino press outlets, President Obama evaded questions about why he and his regime won’t reveal how deep the murderous Operation Fast and Furious goes in his administration and why he won’t even help Mexican authorities track down the guns he allowed to “walk” into their nation to kill Mexican citizens.

You sure can’t say that the Department of Justice didn’t come by its penchant to stonewall questions over its criminal culpability in Operation Fast and Furious. It’s obvious they are being directed to stonewall and avoid questions by the president if his actions at the presser are any indications.

During the roundtable event Obama was asked about the disastrous program but his answers were evasive and non-responsive…

More Pressure on Obama’s DOJ OVer Fast & Furious

-By Warner Todd Huston

The pressure for Obama’s Department of Justice to come clean on its part in the murderous program to arm Mexican narco-terrorists is mounting as another GOP lawmaker demands answers.

Representative Lamar Smith (R, Texas) who is the ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee has sent a letter to Attny. Gen. Eric Holder demanding more information on the part the DOJ had in the failed program to track guns in Mexico.

Smith warned Holder that recent personnel changes would not paper over or hide its culpability in the program variously known as Gunwalker or Operation Fast And Furious. Smith told Holder that he can’t “pin this scandal on a few individuals and expect it to be forgotten.”

Issa Getting ‘Zero Percent’ Cooperation from DOJ on Operation Fast & Furious Investigation

-By Warner Todd Huston

Rep. Darrell Issa (R, Calif.) recently told Greta Van Susteren that he and Senator Chuck Grassley (R, Iowa) are getting “zero percent” cooperation from Obama’s Department of Justice in their investigation into Operation Fast and Furious, Obama’s disastrously failed program that ended up arming Mexican narco-terrorists.

Said Issa, “This has continued to be frustrating that, as the Mexican government tells us publicly, they’re being kept in the dark, we can’t give them information from the Department of Justice. We can only give them information we’re getting from whistleblowers — and we’re getting a lot.”…

Up to 150 Mexican Citizens Killed By Obama’s Gunwalker?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Just the other day, I noted that we don’t even know how many Mexicans have been killed by Obama’s effort to arm Mexican narco-terrorists via his Operation Fast and Furious program. Now the Mexican government has put an initial estimate on that number and it reaches upwards to 150 or more Mexicans dead at the Obama administration’s hands.

Not only have Mexican authorities determined that up to150 people have been killed by Obama’s guns but to this very day the U.S. government has offered Mexico no explanation or coordination on the disastrously failed program.

As bad as any deaths are, one death in particular should tend to truly enrage the Mexican government over the Operation Fast and Furious debacle..

Secret Recordings Shed More Light On Obama’s Gunwalker Program

-By Warner Todd Huston

CBS News posted a story on Monday revealing new evidence against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF) in the Operation Fast and Furious debacle that causes concern that more evidence has been covered up by the agency.

The audio tapes were made by a gun dealer forced by the BATF to help them transfer guns to Mexican narco-terrorists and have been turned over to the congressional investigation being conducted by Rep. Darrel Issa (R, Calif) and Senator Chuck Grassley (R, Iowa)…

Issa Doubts Holder Could Have NOT Known About Fast & Furious

-By Warner Todd Huston

Representative Darrell Issa (R, CA) can’t believe U.S. Attny Gen Eric Holder when he says he knew nothing of the murderous operation called Fast and Furious, a program that put thousands of guns in the hands of Mexican narco-terrorists.

Napolitano Denies Knowledge of Fast & Furious – Plus 3 More Murders Linked to F&F

-By Warner Todd Huston

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is getting into the F&F denial game this week as Tuesday she added her voice to the Obama Regime’s claims that none of them knew anything about Obama’s disastrous guns to Mexican narco-terrorists program called Operation Fast and Furious.

In testimony before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Napolitano said she had no knowledge of F&F.

Senator John McCain (R, Ariz) put it to her specifically asking if she was “unfamiliar” with Operation Fast and Furious. Napolitano replied, “that is accurate.”

Then she added herself as another spot in the administration’s stone wall.

Ariz. Gun Shop Owner Suspicious of Fast and Furious

-By Warner Todd Huston

An Arizona gun shop owner that was pressed into service by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF) to illegally sell guns to straw purchasers told the L.A.Times that “Every passing week, I worried” that someone was going to get hurt with the hundreds of thousands of dollars in firearms he was selling to them.

The shop owner, Andre Howard of the Lone Wolf Gun Store in Rio Rico, Arizona, sold guns to people he knew were transporting them to Mexican narco-terrorists for 15 months under orders from the BATF. As time wore on and he never heard of any arrests and saw no announcements of tracking programs made public, Howard’s conscience really began to bother him…

Eric Holder: Fast & Furious? What is that, a Movie?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Remember that old 60s TV show Hogan’s Heroes? If so you’ll remember Sgt. Schultz’ catch phrase, “I know nothiiiing!” Well U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder isn’t quite as fat as good ol’ Sgt. Schultz, but he sure has the catch phrase down pat because Holder now says he knows nothiiiing about Obama’s arming of Mexican narco-terrorists with the policy called Operation Fast and Furious. Or did he?

I’ve always wondered how Hogan’s Heroes was ever greenlighted for a TV series. I mean, can you imagine the pitch meeting? “So, it’s a half hour comedy about hilarious Nazis. Get it? Funny Nazis!” How the heck did that get sold only twenty years after WWII ended? But, imagine the same scenario for Operation Fast and Furious. “See, we’ll give murderers and narco-terrorists a bunch of guns and hand grenades. It’ll really work to help us stop them from getting guns and hand grenades. No I really mean it!”

But Sgt. Eric Schultz knows “nothiiiing”! Yeah, right…

Obama’s Gun Running: White House Officials Knew More Than They Claimed, Also More Guns Showing Up at US Crime Scenes

-By Warner Todd Huston

The details of Obama’s illicit gun running program to arm Mexican narco-terrorists get worse by the day, it seems. Not only have we now discovered that at least three White House national security officials were briefed about Operation Fast and Furious, but it also looks like BATF officials tried to cover up the fact that their illicitly sold guns were being found at U.S. crime scenes after the death of border agent Brian Terry.

The L.A.Times reports that three White House national security officials had received emails about the progress of Operation Fast and Furious. This seems to contradict past claims by the White House that no one in Obama’s administration was aware of the program…

Was Obama’s CIA Behind Guns for Mexican Narco-Terrorists?

-By Warner Todd Huston

There was an interesting article in the Washington Times on August 11 that speculated that the CIA was an important participant in Obama’s gun walker/Operation Fast and Furious program that put free guns in the hands of Mexican narco-terrorists. The reason the CIA was so interested in doing this was to lend its support to one violent Mexican drug cartel in hopes it could defeat an even more violent Mexican drug cartel.

Of course, the CIA wasn’t the only conspirator in Obama’s arming of Mexican narco-terrorists. We know that the FBI, the DEA, and the BATF were in this mess up to each of their elbows and all have blood on their hands. But the Times notes that the CIA is one agency that has been left out of the blame game in this mounting scandal…

Obama Happily Putting Guns in the Hands of Mexican Drug Dealers, Now Ending Up in Phoenix

-By Warner Todd Huston

If you haven’t heard about the Gun Walker case, it’s time you learned. This was an Obama administration Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms (BATF) program where guns were sneaked across our southern border by Mexican drug dealers. It turns out that these guns were given them by the Obama administration. The idea was that the BATF could trace how guns get disseminated in Mexico. Officials also hoped that the program would help them find where the drug dealers are and if a few people got killed in the process… well, you can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs, right?

The BATF program was code named “Fast and Furious.” Naturally it has become quite controversial and has led to much talk that BATF chief Kenneth Melson will be eliminated from that agency – this has yet to occur, though. This scandal is just in the early stages of becoming a major mess to be hung around Obama’s neck so there is no telling where it will end up. Big scandal? Swept under the rug? Could go either way even though it is a major scandal that should sink several members of the Obama admin, if not Obama himself….

California: The Gateway Drug State

Paul A. Ibbetson

When California legalized medical marijuana in 1996 with Proposition 215 to address their citizens’ headaches and shoulder pains, I along with many others saw this as the beginning of a push for wider legalization of the drug. This concern has now been validated with Proposition 19 that is on California’s November 2 ballot. If passed, California’s new pot law will allow individuals 21 years or older to legally possess one ounce of marijuana as well as to create “pot gardens” for recreational use. Legal pot will have transcended the need of any ailment to be consumed openly by Californians. Of course, the federal government may still throw you in jail, and that is an issue that might keep those secret marijuana-growing rooms secret.

As reported by the Christian Science Monitor, when California legalized medical marijuana the law was not picked up by the entire country. In fact, only 13 other states decided that the drug would become part of their healing regiment. Why? Because the federal government continued to enforce the drug laws prohibiting the drug’s possession and use. Both the administrations of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush prosecuted users and sellers after proposition 215 passed in California. The authority to enforce the federal drug laws on divergent states like California was affirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court. That revelation is probably enough to make a California herb enthusiast drop his or her handcrafted water bong in slow-motion shock. Barack Obama’s “hope and change” in part brought change to how the federal government would treat medical marijuana states. Currently the White House’s stance is no prosecution for medical marijuana states.

Yes, Folks, We All Would Legislate Morality (Psst, Even You Libertarians)

-By Selwyn Duke

Really, I must be a glutton for punishment. During the past couple of weeks, I wrote two articles on libertarianism and made the point that for a law to be just, it must have a basis in morality. These commentaries evoked quite a response, ranging from lauding me as brilliant to lambasting me for not having two brain cells to rub together. And the negative responses were most notable. For daring to mention morality and law in the same breath, some implied I was like the Taliban, one respondent called me a “neoconservative” and a blogger said I was a socialist (yes, really, yours truly!). Pretty funny that, when talking about a man who proposed the Defense against Tyranny Amendment.

Now, to review the morality/law nexus in brief, I previously wrote (I recommend reading the first two pieces, here and here, for background):

Will Conservatives Defend Californians’ Right to Legalize?

-By Chris Slavens

California might become the first state to legalize the recreational use of marijuana, if voters there approve Proposition 19 next month. Though poll results differ, most indicate that a majority of voters favor the ballot proposition; if it passes, it will take effect on November 3.

Enter the Obama administration. In a letter to former heads of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Attorney General Eric Holder wrote that the administration “strongly opposes” the proposition, and “will vigorously enforce” federal drug laws if it passes. This comes about a year after the same administration announced that it would stop prosecuting medicinal marijuana users. Confusing?

By adopting a hypocritical stance when it comes to enforcing federal drug laws, the president has, perhaps unwittingly, provided the tea party movement with a rare opportunity to add hordes of young, left-leaning voters to its ranks.

Huh?

Alaska’s Sen. Murkowski a Coke Head?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Dan Riehl of Riehl World View has a bit of a bombshell to drop on the arrogant, self-reverential “Senator of the people,” Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski — she of the second hand Senate seat bequeathed to her by her father who held that seat himself. Riehl says that it is a commonly known, not-so-secret secret in Alaska that Lisa Murkowski is and/or was a major drug addict even as she served as Alaska’s Republican Senator.

Murkowski recently lost her primary, as we all know, and suddenly she is now Mz independent because obviously having her in the Senate is far, far more important than anything as silly as the will of the voters! Perhaps her drug use explains her completely incomprehensible decision to continue running despite being turned out by her own voters?

So what did Riehl find?

New Film ‘Machete’: Cynical Exploitation of America’s Racial Troubles

-By Warner Todd Huston

The new film Machete is born of a joke. No, really. In 2006 when Quentin Tarantino was gearing up for his double feature movie experience Grindhouse, he solicited other directors and even the fans to make fake trailers for bad 70’s exploitation moves. These trailers were shown between the two features in a takeoff of the coming attractions shown between movie features in those old 70s era B-picture film houses Tarantino was spoofing with Grindhouse. Machete was one of these over the top, fake movie trailers and it featured the catch phrase, “This time they f**ked with the wrong Mexican.” It got such a rousing reception from Tarantino’s fans that he and director and partner Robert Rodriguez thought it would make a great sendup film of its own.

But the joke has soured. In this film white America is the enemy and the United States is an oppressive force. It gets so extreme that in one scene a pair of white men shoot to death a pregnant Mexican woman merely so that her baby won’t be born in the USA. The pair then cruelly say, “Welcome to America,” to the dead woman’s Mexican husband.

That is some pretty harsh stuff.

Mexico, Bloody Mexico

-By Alan Caruba

It is increasingly obvious that the Obama administration is more interested in protecting Mexicans than Americans.

Case in point; Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has eleven suspects accused of murdering law enforcement officers in his maximum security county jail in downtown Phoenix. As reported in the August 18 Washington Post, “Justice Department officials in Washington have issued a rare threat to sue (Arpaio) if he does not cooperate with their investigation of whether he discriminates against Hispanics.”

“The standoff comes just weeks after the Justice Department sued Arizona and Gov. Jan Brewer because of the state’s new immigration law,” the Post noted. The latest word from Americans for Legal Immigration is that twenty-two States now have lawmakers developing versions of Arizona’s illegal immigration crackdown bill SB 1070.

Marijuana use Seems to have Destiny with Death

-By Kevin Roeten

More people than you know are currently driving down the road after a few tokes of marijuana. Some are even driving heavy equipment. Some may be even flying planes. Current thought is that if no harm is done to anyone else, there’s absolutely no problem with a few tokes before your daily routine. Right…

Cutting to the chase, many relate cannabis use to driving under the influence of alcohol. With alcohol, one already knows the legal limit. With marijuana, there is no such limit. When blood gets to 0.08% alcohol, all physical effects have been documented. With marijuana, the intoxicating or overdose level is not known.

Many pot users claim they are fine after their daily intake of marijuana smoke. But they’re never sure what level of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is their overdose.

Reconsidering the War On Drugs

-By Ann “Babe” Huggett

On Sunday, June 27 on the BlogTalk Radio show, Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Conservatism, my co-host, Warner Todd Huston and I interviewed James Gierach, representing the organization known as Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP). Now James is a Democrat so he was far better at repeating talking points than answering probing questions. His mantra was that our current War on Drugs is a failure, leads to political corruption, ruined lives for casual users, arbitrarily enforced laws, greater demand by deliberately keeping supplies restricted, gang turf warfare, penitentiaries awash in drugs, entire minority communities blighted and families destroyed all because the Al Capone style of prohibition, which didn’t work for alcohol, was switched over to drugs mid 20th Century.

Although all true, these observations are not new and were actually formulated after our modern War on Drugs had been in effect for a few disastrous decades. It was none other than that Father of American Conservatism, William F. Buckley, who wrote Reefer Madness in 2002 pointing out the trivializing and totally uneven enforcement of drug sentencing and who gave in his 1995 seminal speech, The War On Drugs Is Lost before the New York Bar Association, the following points:
