Where Do Your Union Dues Go? One Word… Embezzlement

-By Warner Todd Huston

Here’s a few heart warming stories of union officials living large off the dues stolen from their membership.

… but remember, they are only looking out for the little guy!

Allied-Industrial Workers (PACE)
Claudia R. Thompson found guilty of embezzlement of union funds and falsifying records on August 15th.

United Auto Workers (UAW)
William Haynes pleads guilty on July 9th to falsifying records, $10,000 in dues money missing

Bakery and Tobacco Workers (BC&T)
Sharon Burt, convicted of embezzlement of $72,701 in union funds in March.

Boilermakers (IBB)
Jeffery Klope, pleaded guilty on June 13th to embezzlement of $25,794 from the union.

Recalling the Indispensable Senator No

-By Michael M. Bates

“Son, just so you understand, I don’t care what The New York Times says about me. And nobody I care about cares what The New York Times says about me.”

That was Senator Jesse Helms (R-NC) offering guidance to a new staffer eager to reply to newspaper criticism leveled against his boss. The episode is recounted in the former senator’s 2005 book, “Here’s Where I Stand: A Memoir.”

Reading that volume reminded me of what a national gem Jesse Helms is and was. For thirty years in the U.S. Senate, he delighted most conservatives and disgusted most liberals. Standing firm on his principles, he truly didn’t care what the mainstream media said about him.

And plenty was said. It was The Raleigh News & Observer early on that, because of his vociferous opposition to prevailing liberal nostrums, dubbed him “Senator No.” Jesse Helms accepted it as a compliment.

Texas Homeland Security Chief: ‘Terrorists Crossed Border’

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Sept. 13th, Texas Homeland Security Director Steve McCraw announced in a speech to the North Texas Crime Commission that Texas authorities had apprehended terrorist suspects who were sneaking across the Mexico/U.S. border. Shouldn’t such a report be running through the MSM like wildfire? Yet, the MSM seems to be ignoring this explosive report with only local Texas news sources, a few Jihad watchers and bloggers having picked up the Director’s statements.

The AP did have a report, shockingly enough, but few other MSM services seem to have found it as of yet… even though the story is about a week old.

DALLAS – Texas’ top homeland security official said Wednesday that terrorists with ties to Hezbollah, Hamas and al-Qaida have been arrested crossing the Texas border with Mexico in recent years.

“Has there ever been anyone linked to terrorism arrested?” Texas Homeland Security Director Steve McCraw said in a speech to the North Texas Crime Commission. “Yes, there was.”

The Director went on to name at least one name and make the clam that some 300 people possibly linked to terror or from countries where terrorism is endemic have been apprehended at the Texas border.

The Congress Whisperer

-By Lee Culpepper

When good Americans go bad, there’s one man who is their best friend: General David Petraeus. In fact, no congressman is too much for him to handle — he rehabilitates mentally unstable liberals; he leads brave military people. He is the Congress Whisperer.

Like dog-behavior expert Caesar Milan from the hit series The Dog Whisperer – the man who dazzles viewers with his ability to establish pack leadership over mentally unbalanced dogs — Gen. Petraeus exercised calm and assertive leadership to rein in and to expose mentally unbalanced Democrats during last week’s congressional hearings.

Before Patraeus could begin rehabilitating unstable Democrats, however, the troop-supporting Democrats demonstrated exactly how deranged they are. The first week of September, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., proclaimed that American troops had nothing to do with the progress in Iraq.

Profane College Newspaper Hides Behind Free Speech

-By Warner Todd Huston

Here we go again with a so-called freedom of speech claim of a bunch of low-class, petulant children playing at being real “journalists” in one of our state funded Universities. This time it’s the little fellas at The Rocky Mountain Collegian, the school paper of Colorado State University, who are hiding behind a real right and using it as cover to realize their 15 minutes of fame. These anti-intellectual, collegians are, of course, pretending to be shocked that anyone would question their “right” to print an expletive in bold headlines in their paper and are claiming that they didn’t mean to “upset” anyone. I have another four-letter word that describes this absurd claim: LIES.

Proving that our schools seem to be more interested in creating controversy, teaching anti-American ideas, and indulging in childish behavior, this supposed student newspaper staff seemed to imagine that journalism should reflect some trash mouthed, morning disc jockey’s schtick instead of serious, reasoned debate. Sadly, it is obvious that these kiddies were left to their own devices in writing and preparing their paper. It seems woefully clear that there was no faculty supervision of these anarchist wannabes. So, not only are we left wondering why our college kids so anti-intellectual but we have to wonder why no one is supervising their misguided attempts at writing. Do these school administrators get a salary to TEACH or do they not?

Remembering that Colorado is the home of Ward Churchill, though, perhaps CSU’s professors’ teaching worked only too well for these half-informed, infant newspapermen?

Denver TV Channel 7 gives us an understated headline for their report, Profane Language Puts Student Editor’s Job On Line, Editorial Raises Eyebrows, Controversy At CSU, to alert us to the story.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — A four word editorial with a four letter word in it is sparking a spirited discussion on free speech at Colorado State University.

The Rocky Mountain Collegian published an editorial on page 4 of the paper Friday which read “Taser this … F*** Bush.”

Naturally, they are hiding behind their misconstruction of the principle of free speech to excuse their idiocy.

In a letter to the University Community and Collegian readers, McSwane wrote, “While the editorial board feels strongly with regard to First Amendment issues, we have found the unintended consequences of such a bold statement to be extremely disheartening.”

“I plan to be honest,” he said. “Our intentions weren’t ‘Hey, let’s upset the community.’ It was, ‘Let’s get college students to talk about freedom of speech.'”

Mr. McSwane is obviously being disingenuous… no I should speak plainly. Mr. McSwane is a liar. How can there be much doubt that he knew full well what would happen when a reaction of outrage over his calumny occurs and that he had, indeed, counted on it in order to get noticed? He wanted his name on TV and he got it. After all, of the decision for going forward with this nonsense, editor David McSwane said, “We felt it illustrated our point about freedom of speech.” Obviously it was thought out in advance and they counted on this reaction.

But here is the thing that is most vexing from these sorts of actions and that is the faux outrage that perpetrators like McSwane counter with when confronted with their effrontery.

He pretends to be shocked that anyone would be mad at him. He claims to be amazed that his paper was pulled from the shelves and that advertisers were pulling their ads. Gosh, why would people be so mad?

Reuters Misleads About Bush Saying ‘Mandela’s Dead’

-By Warner Todd Huston

This one takes the cake as today, Reuters is trying to manufacture a controversy. Apparently al Reuters doesn’t understand the concept of “context” because they’re idiotically claiming that in his Thursday press conference Bush said that Nelson Mandela is dead. Calling what Bush said “an embarrassing gaffe,” Reuters took Bush’s words out of context to make it seem as if Bush was talking about something he was not talking about. But any intelligent person can easily understand Bush’s context merely by listening to his whole sentence instead of shortening it to just two words.

With a headline that reads, Mandela still alive after embarrassing Bush remark, Reuters does their best to make a Bush “gaffe” where none exists.

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) – Nelson Mandela is still very much alive despite an embarrassing gaffe by U.S. President George W. Bush, who alluded to the former South African leader’s death in an attempt to explain sectarian violence in Iraq.

Heartwarming that Reuters is so concerned over Mandela’s health, isn’t it?

But here’s the problem. During the press conference, Bush was not talking about the actual Nelson Mandela. He was talking about people like Nelson Mandela and speaking metaphorically. And listening to Bush’s entire segment, while not artfully stated, makes it clear that he was not talking about the actual Nelson Mandela.

Is it News or Chinese Propaganda?

-By Warner Todd Huston

There has been study after study proving the leftward tilt of the American media establishment, so the constant denials by that same media sounds increasingly absurd and hard to believe. But, it is one thing to have people who truly believe their own ideology is the best guide for the future and base their honest actions on that belief and quite another to act unethically in pursuit of their professions. Unfortunately, there seems far more of the later these days than the former. And here is just another example of the later to dishearten all of us.

In this case, U.S.A. Today published a story that not only advances the fortunes of our self-professed enemy, but one that is cynically intended as a self-serving ploy. The paper’s story lends a big assist in promulgating Chinese propaganda as the paper helps explain away the nature of the forced military training that Chinese children undergo. Calling the compulsory training a benign sounding “camp” and presenting the children’s training as if it is a mere summer excursion, USA Today soft sells China’s militarization of their youth in theirs titled, ”Chinese kids undergo required military training.”

As USA Today dutifully reports China’s propaganda — the children go there to “sing songs” with the training only meant to “bolster teamwork” — we see a disgraceful example of the MSM’s practice of not “offending” a totalitarian nation so as not to lose their “access” there. Instead of reporting the harsh truth, we have USA Today offering a sunny and happy report on Chinese warmongering.

The Left attempts to define Political Correctness

By David M. Huntwork

Kai Chang from the blog Zuky wrote a piece titled The Greatest Cliché: The Unexamined Propaganda of “Political Correctness” (http://www.kaichang.net/2006/11/the_sloppy_prop.html) which sought to ‘reclaim’ the phrase Political Correctness and to wave a finger at all those who have dared to strike back at the PC advocates. It has been hailed as the “definitive analysis of Political Correctness” by a variety of Left wing bloggers while at the same time completely sidestepping its true nature. The author manages to both deny and misguide when it comes to this issue. His obvious hesitancy in dealing with the PC movement is both striking and revealing.

The phrase “politically correct” can be used in two distinct ways: either with its original literal meaning, or with the mocking sarcasm that’s common these days. I’ll get to the former in a moment, but I’ll begin with the latter. As it’s commonly used, “PC” is a deliberately imprecise expression (just try finding or writing a terse, precise definition) because its objective isn’t to communicate a substantive idea, but simply to sneer and snivel about the linguistic and cultural burdens of treating all people with the respect and sensitivity with which they wish to be treated. Thus, the Herculean effort required to call me “Asian American” rather than “chink” is seen as a concession to “the PC police”, an unsettling infringement on the free-wheeling conversation of, I suppose, “non-chinks”. Having to refer to black folks as “African Americans” rather than various historically-prevalent epithets surely strikes some red-blooded blue-balled white-men as a form of cultural oppression. Having to refer to “women” rather than “bitches” lays a violent buzzkill on the bar-room banter of men preoccupied with beating on their chests and off other body parts.

Ah, yes, the Left waxes indignant about being painted with the Politically Correct brush.

There is, of course, no mention of the thousands of examples of official persecution carried out due to Political Correctness. No listing of the campus speech codes, the corporate hypersensitivity, the frightened political figures and the cowed populace at large that cannot be denied. Yet hardly a day goes by where the news does not report yet another poor individual who has run afoul of the PC crowd.

Nebraska State Senator ‘Sues God’

-By Warner Todd Huston

File this under it-takes-all-kinds, but a state Senator in Nebraska has decided to sue God. That’s right, this fool of a politician has decided to pull God into court. The AP reports that Ernie Chambers (who’s probably always been mad that his parents decided to name him “Erine”), the so-called “angriest black man in Nebraska,” claims he is trying to “make a point” about frivolous lawsuits… by making more of them.

LINCOLN, Neb. – The defendant in a state senator’s lawsuit is accused of causing untold death and horror and threatening to cause more still. He can be sued in Douglas County, the legislator claims, because He’s everywhere.

State Sen. Ernie Chambers sued God last week. Angered by another lawsuit he considers frivolous, Chambers says he’s trying to make the point that anybody can file a lawsuit against anybody.

Claiming God to be a terrorist and murderer, Chambers is seeking a “permanent injunction” against God.

Let’s hope some self-respecting judge throws this nonsense out like it should be thrown out.

AP Gives Anti-War Dems Cover Over Ignoring Military Budget Debate

-By Warner Todd Huston

This particular AP report is an interesting study in how the AP subtly backs the Democrats in their efforts to undermine the war effort and how they present the GOP as somehow lacking all support or being merely a blocking force in Congress instead of actually representing their constituent’s wishes. In the AP’s stylebook, Republican = bad and Democrat = good. In this case, funding for the troops is presented like an average fight over tax money and only the Demos side is discussed with no GOP views offered in the story.

Let’s start with the very first paragraph of the story titled Democrats to Wait on War Funding Debate.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats are not expected to take up President Bush’s war spending request until November, giving them time to calculate their next move and see if Republican support for his policies deteriorates.

Well, now, see the good news? The Dems have a strategy! But, this strategy consists of depriving our soldiers of the funds they need to keep moving forward. Yet the AP presents it as a mere political strategy, as if it were a story about funding Social Security or Medicare — just an average funding battle. The AP gives it as benign a presentation as they can.

Then the AP goes on, still ignoring the actual target of the funding debate:

Hearken To The Words of a Sunni governor: “Our Tomorrow Starts Today”

-By Marie Jon’

Given what President Bush said when he spoke to the American citizenry, the response that followed from the National Democrat Party should not have been surprising. Their specialty is a constant barrage of investigative congressional hearings and assorted faultfinding committees. One wonders if anything good can come from the mouth of Speaker Nancy Pelosi. http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/09/20070913-2.wm.v.html

A courageous man named General David Petraeus presented a truthful report to the Congress about progress of the U.S. troop surge in Iraq. Unfortunately, the Democrat Party decided to use it as an opportunity not to glean knowledge, but to besmirch a hero. To do so, they used the arm of an Internet-based political group that was founded under the Clinton administration.

MoveOn.org took out a scandalous ad in the New York Times: “General Petraeus or General Betray Us?” Are you surprised more by the childish word-play or the antagonism itself? Why this level of despite on the part of the far Left? Why must their feelings for their country, the troops, and our Commander-in-Chief rise to the level of hate? https://pol.moveon.org/petraeus.html

The eyes of many are beginning to open; in the terror war, it is not unreasonable to view the Democrat Party as America’s “other” enemy. When folks hear the very same rhetoric the far Left uses spewing out of Osama bin Laden’s profane mouth, they can’t help but see the threat they also pose. A house divided instills boldness within the Jihadist’s mind. “We must sacrifice our lives to attack the enemy,” according to bin Laden. Similarly, it seems the Democrats are willing to sacrifice the country.

Time Mag’s Michael Kinsley Makes MoveOn.org’s ‘Betray us’ Ad Fault of Limbaugh, O’Reilly

-By Warner Todd Huston

Goodness gracious, Michael Kinsley, vaunted leftist, upright “journalist,” salt of the earth, is supporting a group that would rather call names and stir hatred for our troops than support a general that the entire U.S. Senate voted unanimously for only a few months ago. The founding editor of Slate online magazine, Microsoft’s “serious” news and commentary magazine, thinks brash, slander is a great way to carry out the public debate on serious issues that affect the lives of millions of people. It’s disgraceful. It’s just beyond the pale … It’s … oh, my heavens … say, is it a bit stuffy in here? … I think I’m going to … Could I have a glass of … oh, dear [thud].

Welcome to the wonderful world of hypocrisy in the American punditry class.

Childishly, Kinsley is turning the controversy over the vitriol and hatred displayed by Moveon.org’s disgusting “Betray us” ad that calls general Petraeus a liar and traitor, into the fault of talk radio and Conservative pundits.

Welcome to the wonderful world of umbrage, the new language of American politics. You would not have thought that the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly would be so sensitive. Sticks and stones and so on. Yet they all seem to have taken one look at that ad and fainted dead away. And when they came round, they demanded — as if with one voice (or at least as if with one list of talking points) — that every Democratic presidential candidate must “condemn” this shocking, shocking document.

This insipid view of the hate indulged in by the American left is as free of morality as can ever be imagined. Kinsley’s blaming of this incident on the reaction of the right, though, is a typical example of the immorality of the left. It is a perfect example of the sort of attitudes that leftists are mired in. Its similar to the sort of assumption that an attacked person is somehow wrong for replying to the attack, as if defending yourself is just as “bad” as the bully attacker’s actions.

After all, isn’t the left upset at Bush for replying to terrorism with force? As if we are wrong for replying to having nearly 3,000 of our innocent citizens incinerated on 9/11?

MoveOn ‘Betray Us’ Attack Ad Condemned by Senate!

-By Warner Todd Huston

This afternoon in the Senate, a resolution condemning the hateful MoveOn.org ad was passed with overwhelming support. With a vote of 72 to condemn the obscene Move-On Petraus attack ad and 25 voting not to condemn the ad, a closely split Senate showed that it can act commandingly on a controversial issue without being so closely split along Party lines. 3 did not vote — Joe Biden (D-DE), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), and Barack Obama (D-IL)– but a large majority turned out against the resolution sponsored by John Cornyn of Texas.

Earlier In today’s press conference, president Bush attacked the “betray us” ad.

The ad, he said, “was disgusting. It was an attack not only on Gen. Petraeus but on the U.S. military. … I was disappointed that not more leaders in the Democratic Party spoke out more strongly against that kind of ad.” The president’s conclusion: “Most Democrats are afraid of irritating a left-wing group — or are more afraid of irritating them — then they are of irritating the U.S. military. That was a sorry deal. … It’s one thing to attack me, but another to attack somebody like Gen. Petraeus.”

Who voted to SUPPORT the “disgusting” ad, though, is interesting to note.

Senator Hillary Clinton led the pack of those who could not see themselves clear to condemn this attack on the general they voted unanimously to support not but a few months ago. Senator Dodd, another one who imagines himself able to ascend to the White House, also voted to support extreme leftist vitriol like that of MoveOn.org.

Here is the list of the Senators who voted to support extremist attack ads.

Akaka (D-HI)
Binghaman (D-NM)
Boxer (D-CA)
Brown (D-OH)
Byrd (D-WV)
Clinton (D-NY)
Dodd (D-CT)
Durbin (D-IL)
Feingold (D-WI)
Harkin (D-IA)
Inouye (D-HI)
Kennedy (D-MA)
Kerry (D-MA)
Lautenberg (D-NJ)
Levin (D-MI)
Menendez (D-WA)
Murray (D-WA)
Reed (D-RI)
Reid (D-NV)
Rockefeller (D-WV)
Sanders (I-VT)
Schumer (D-NY)
Stabenow (D-MI)
Whitehouse (D-RI)
Wyden (D-OR)

Pay attention Ohio. Your new Senator Sherrod Brown just voted to support this kind of hate in public discourse. New Jersey, Lautenberg, your aged also-ran Senator, voted for extremism, as well.

Next time, keep this in mind when voting for a Senator.

It is also extremely important to note which Democrat Senators voted against supporting MoveOn.org. In fact, some of the new Senators who were heavily supported by MoveOn.org money and voters ended up condemning the hand that feeds them!

Senators like Jon Tester of Montana and Jimmy “it ain’t my gun” Webb of Virginia voted to bite MoveOn.org’s hand.

So, it was an interesting resolution all the way around, one full of surprises.

The Death of a Soldier…The Life of a Patriot

-By Frank Salvato

What is a patriot? What is a hero? We throw these words around a lot these days and we bestow them on those who most often don’t come close to warranting the honor. From athletes to artists, dissenters to politicians and movie stars, our society holds some of the most undeserving people in high esteem.

So, what is a patriot? Who really should be designated a hero?

Patriot: A person who loves, supports and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion. – Dictionary.com

Hero: A man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. – Dictionary.com

Last February my publication ran an opinion piece by a young US Army sergeant named Eddie Jeffers. Eddie was serving in one of Iraq’s hot-spots, Ramadi Iraq. His job was the hard job: clearing buildings, disrupting terrorist cells and operations, everything that we imagine when we think of what it must be like for our soldiers who are “in the thick of it.”

After reading Eddie’s piece the first time I realized the true definition of patriotism, of heroism. It isn’t about voicing dissent or exercising free speech. It isn’t about achieving political change or affecting the world politick. And while there may be some credence to the notion of standing up for what you believe in that’s only one component.

Washington Post Says Communists are ‘Freedom Fighters’, Thompson Says Americans Are

-By Warner Todd Huston

Who is right? Thompson or the Washington Post?

On September 7th, Fred Thompson made what the Washington Post unpatriotically reported was a “grandiose claim.” Thompson told Iowans that when you look back over our history “our people have shed more blood for other people’s liberty than any other combination of nations in the history of the world.”

The Washington ComPost begs to differ. They cite several “combinations” of nations from ancient times to the losses of the allies fighting the Germans in both World Wars as their “proof” that others have shed more blood to free “other people” than have Americans. But, far from “proof,” the Post’s argument falls flat under scrutiny.

In fact, all of the “combinations” that the Post uses does not pass the test of joining a war for “other people’s liberty.” Really, only the actions of the British can be pointed to as having been undertaken for such a motive. Only the British, crusaders against slavery, rival the Americans for their blood spilled for other’s benefit.

Please Stop the Aid

-By Nancy Salvato

“Economic freedom, in and of itself, is an extremely important part of total freedom.” — Milton Friedman1

“In 1996, the UN declared that 70 countries, aid recipients all, were poorer than in 1980. An incredible 43 were worse off than in 1970.”2 Experience has consistently shown that simply providing money to Third World countries will not buy political stability, spur social progress and eliminate poverty, yet this strategy continues to influence charitable efforts aimed at helping the impoverished people residing in these areas.3

It may sound cruel, but there are many valid reasons to stop the billions of dollars in aid given to poor countries. Often, it ends up in the hands of officials who repress their people. Many of them spend this money on arms and military instead of necessary infrastructure. Foreign countries acknowledging leaders, in this way, legitimize their rule. With money comes influence; not only of corrupt officials but with the countries providing the donations. Donors determine which projects to support. As a result, beneficiaries lose their autonomy and any possibility of true self government. Instead, allegiance is offered to those in power who can distribute aid or provide public service.4

Typical Bias Against Life in NBC Abortion Story

-By Warner Todd Huston

On August 31st, NBC correspondent Mark Potter filed a story filled with woe over the weakening position for abortion in various parts of the country. The story has a distinct pro-abortion position that is typical of that displayed in the media and runs contrary to the legal, democratic lawmaking being carried out in certain states across the country, in this case the state of Mississippi. The story wags a moral finger in the face of the duly elected representatives of the state and assumes a superior attitude to those who oppose abortion. It reveals a media that has utter contempt for life coupled with an equal amount of contempt for the democratic process and the voice of the people, one NBC wishes to supplant with their own, elitist viewpoint.

Over the last several years, the state of Mississippi has seen a steady roll back of abortion protecting laws in Jackson, the state’s capitol. It has been so steady, in fact, that the state has but one legal abortion mill left within its borders. This is a state of affairs that NBC cannot stomach, despite that it is the will of the majority in Mississippi.

Potter’s article starts with a headline that casts abortion foes in the negative: In Miss., an effective attack against abortion — Last clinic in the state is fighting for the right to remain open

Notice the slant. Abortion is “attacked” and it is “fighting for the right” to exist. Abortion is cast in the heroic role to the harsh anti-abortion activist’s relentless violence against a “right” to abortion cast in the role of mortal enemy. Certainly, the pro-life position is the enemy here as far as NBC is concerned. Why couldn’t the title have been something like: “Pro Lifers Winning Against Culture of Death” Too, strong? How about this one: “Voice of People Calls to Restrict Abortion in Mississippi.”

It doesn’t start out any better with the report’s first words.

Wooly Mammoth Dung Speeds Global Warming… Give me a Break!

-By Warner Todd Huston

Now, you’re gonna read that headline and laugh imagining that I must surely be employing the best hyperbole. Reuters can’t possibly be touting a story that says wooly mammoth dung could be making global warming worse… could they? I am sad to say that they are, indeed, making this claim in a story on the crackpot theories of a Russian “scientist.”

I know, I know. It seems like an entry from “The Onion” news satire website, but it isn’t. Reuters gives us the pooper scoop in “Mammoth dung, prehistoric goo may speed warming,” posted on the 16th.

Sounding like a bad copy of an old Cheech and Chong skit, “scientist” Sergei Zimov grabs some wooly mammoth dung, puts it to his face and proclaims, “It smells like mammoth dung.” Reuters gives him the space to revel in his crappy theory that this millions-year-old, melted mammoth dung is speeding globaloney.

But Zimov, a scientist who for almost 30 years has studied climate change in Russia’s Arctic, believes that as this organic matter becomes exposed to the air it will accelerate global warming faster than even some of the most pessimistic forecasts.

“This will lead to a type of global warming which will be impossible to stop,” he said.

Falling back on the “cow flatulence” theory of globaloney causes, this Russian theorist imagines that “methane gas” will be released by the melting of the ice and the returning to the air of wooly mammoth dung that was once seemingly forever frozen in the permafrost.

Why all that darn poop didn’t cause global warming THEN but will NOW doesn’t seem to come up in the story, but there ya go… or there the mammoth went… er sumpthin.

Calling Out the Political Bullies

-By Frank Salvato

In the wake of the disgraceful yet defining full-page MoveOn.org ad in the New York Times, the one that denigrated Gen. Petraeus, we stand witness to the benchmark in today’s political tactical maneuvering, the Bully Tactic. Increasingly, political operatives and zealots alike are turning to the coercive tactic of bullying those who aren’t on-board with their candidates or agendas. This benchmark signals some of the darkest days in American politics.

Organizations like MoveOn.org have employed the Bully Tactic quite effectively. By utilizing deep-pocketed, agenda-driven benefactors and exploiting small donor advocates to advance their special interest causes, especially through the mainstream media, MoveOn.org has achieved it goal of placing their special interest demands above the will of the majority in our nation. By creating the illusion that they know what the “

America people” believe they, in many cases, succeed in swaying public opinion using less than accurate information and propaganda.

But MoveOn.org isn’t the only organization that employs the Bully Tactic.

CAIR and the ACLU have successfully employed the Bully Tactic, using it as a tool in litigation.

Planned Parenthood Lies to City Board That New Building to be Abortion Clinic

-By Warner Todd Huston

This story has been going on for a few days in Aurora, Illinois. It seems Planned Parenthood told a teeny, tiny white lie to the City Planning Board of Aurora about what use a new building they were constructing near a residential neighborhood would be put to. In fact, they even misled city officials as to who they even were, and those officials are none too happy about it.

The city granted a building permit to a company called Gemini Office Development LLC to build what was being called a “medical office building.” It turns out, however, that Gemini Office Development LLC is actually a shell company for Planned Parenthood and this new building was not going to be just a regular, non-descript “medical office building” but a Planned Parenthood abortion mill, instead. Curiously, Planned Parenthood neglected to tell the city of its plans until the building was complete and they were ready to open for business.

Naturally, the community is a tad upset that they were lied to.

On a radio interview this morning, an Aurora city councilman was upset that the abortion advocates would build an abortion clinic near a residential community when such clinics often bring dangerous conditions with them. After all, says the councilman, when they build these facilities they use bullet proof glass and try to make them bomb proof, so obviously they know that their facilities have the potential to bring danger to the community.

Harvard Professor: ‘Right Wing shanghaiing values… U.S. Not Same Country Anymore’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Harvard Magazine, a magazine that caters to the alumnus of Harvard University, gives us the blather of one of their professors, Howard Gardner, who is despairing on how we eeeevil conservatives are taking over his country.

To start with, the short Harvard Mag piece tries hard to explain why anyone should care about Gardner. Apparently it’s mostly because of his 1983 theory of “multiple intelligences.” This theory holds that humanity has different types of intelligences, that an IQ test cannot measure a person’s intelligence effectively, and that our different kinds of intelligence (I’ve heard it called “genius”) is often hard to quantify. Some have a genius in dealing with people, some have their ability in music, some in mathematics, etc. Everyone’s great ability is different than the next fellow’s. That this particular theory seemed innovative or groundbreaking proves that the only “genius” that people in academia have is that of stating the obvious and pompously proclaiming it to be of great insight.

That Wonderful Photo of Howard Gardner, Enemy to Our Nation

-By Warner Todd Huston

Now, its time to take a few minutes for some vitriol. I don’t usually do this as I prefer my vitriol to be simply an understood thing, something unnecessarily indulged in for the most part. After all, my subject matter and the disdain I hold toward it pretty much goes without saying if read clearly. I feel it doesn’t have to be reveled in. It’s obvious. I just don’t need such mindless cathartics. I’m far too secure with myself for it… usually!

But, this Howard Gardner twit really is a special case. He calls for a bit ‘o the blarney, methinks.

Just look at the picture of this numbskull, Gardner.

Look it over and see how his pose perfectly fits the emptiness of his ideology, the vacancy of his “intelligence.” Look at the vacuous glare in his eyes as he stares off into space, slobbering like a lobotomy patient with that half-grin of the mentally deficient spread across his feeble, soft face.

Off he stares into the wide blue sky, dreaming the dreams of the pandered to, wishing the wishes of those protected from the real world.

Resolution 590: Is Congress Not Aware of Male Victimization?

-By Richard L. Davis

To see, to hear, means nothing. To recognize (or not to recognize) means everything. And what I do not recognize I shall continue not to recognize.
Andre Brenton (1989-1966, French Surrealist)

This is an online open letter to the members of the 110th U.S. Congress
I agree with the 110th Congress Resolution 590 about raising the awareness of domestic violence in the United States and the devastating effects domestic violence has on families and communities. The Resolution can be viewed online at http://thomas.loc.gov/ and then enter HRES 590 in to the search engine block. A critical analysis by http://www.mediaradar.org/ of House Resolution 590 is available online at http://www.mediaradar.org/docs/RADARanalysis-HRES590.pdf.

Although the 110th Congress Resolution 590 claims that Congress wants to raise awareness of domestic violence, Resolution 590 accomplishes just the opposite concerning male victimization; i.e.: “Whereas one in four women will experience domestic violence sometime in her life” and “Whereas 13 percent of teenage girls who have been in a relationships report being hit or hurt by their partner.” No awareness of male victimization there!

More Media Bias Against Guantanamo Facility

-By Warner Todd Huston

This USA Today story about an AP report should be called headline abuse instead of “detainee abuse” because if one were to just read the headline and move on, you’d get the wrong impression about what the story really reveals. You’d obviously read USA Today’s headline, “Guantanamo detainees tell of abuses,” and assume the story is another abu Ghraib styled yarn about how evil US soldiers are abusing these poor, poor terrorists in the Guantanamo Bay detainment facility — after all the prevailing MSM story has been just that when the word “abuses” is used. But, if you take the time to actually read the story, there seems less of the “abuses” you’d expect to find and more of how the detainees themselves are abusing each other, themselves, and their guards. Instead of BEING abused, the detainees seem more like the abusers and this is certainly not the message that the headline imparts in today’s MSM climate. One wonders why USA Today would want to leave such a wrong conclusion with a headline that doesn’t quite seem to match the story.

After reading the headline, in light of how the prevailing usage of “abuses” in the MSM so often means the “abuses” caused at the hands of US soldiers, we find, however, that the story itself does not really detail too much “abuse” of prisoners. Even that first paragraph starts to disabuse about the “abuses.”

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Detainees flinging body waste at guards. Guards interrupting detainees at prayer. Interrogators withholding medicine. Hostility and tension between inmates and their keepers at the Guantanamo Bay prison are evident in transcripts obtained by The Associated Press.

Notice the lopsided preponderance of what might be termed “abuse?” The detainees are doing more of it both to their guards and to each other. The detainees are, in truly uncivilized fashion, “flinging body waste at guards” and causing hostility between each other. The worst that USA Today can accuse our soldiers of is “interrupting” a prayer! It turns out that the detainees here and not the guards are causing the worst “abuses”.

Housing Slump ‘Forces’ Pair to Open Whorehouse?

-By Warner Todd Huston

We have seen it time and again; the MSM taking these relatively good economic times in which we live and spinning them into some sort of Depression era disaster as if things are really all bad. Well, the CBS station in New Rochelle, New York has decided that the so-called housing slump is now somehow “forcing” people to turn their homes into whorehouses! No kidding. Now, as far as this news report is concerned, economics takes away a homeowner’s sense of morality because times are supposedly so bad that prostitution is their only resort. Talk about hyperbole — this one takes the cake.

As the headline blares, Housing Market Slump Forces Couple To Open Brothel, the article goes on to suppose that a New Rochelle couple could find no other way to keep their home in these apparently tough economic times but to become whores and pimps… and literally, not figuratively at that

(CBS) NEW ROCHELLE The downturn in the housing market appears to have driven two Westchester homeowners to desperate and illegal measures.

New Rochelle Police raided a 3-bedroom home on North Avenue Friday night after undercover officers responded to a Craig’s List posting offering dominatrix services with a grand opening special. Police arrested four alleged prostitutes and the homeowners.

One of this couple’s neighbors blamed it on “business problems.”

One of the couple’s Pleasantville neighbors seemed pretty sure business problems were at the root of the shocking news. “I know they’re mortgage brokers,” Peter Passidomo said. “And I know it’s been a tough business, so I assume they might have had financial difficulty.”

Wow. So, now the media are trying to foist upon us that times are so bad that people are “forced” to abandon their morality and take up a life of criminal activity just to keep their homes, eh?

Even Oprah can’t save Obama

-By Michael M. Bates

Oprah Winfrey can shill for Barack Obama. She can host glitzy events and collect cash for him. She can campaign with him, maybe even do some commercials for him. What she can’t do is take a candidate who’s clearly not ready for the big leagues and make him a president.

Mrs. Obama’s recent revelation that her husband stinks was just one in a series of missteps. Earlier, there was Mr. Obama invading Pakistan, and meeting various dictators with no preconditions, and stating that as president he wouldn’t use nuclear weapons to fight terrorism “in any circumstance.”

Then there was his declaration that he’d immediately call the president of Canada to try to amend the North American Free Trade Agreement. That could be tough, as Canada doesn’t have a president.

‘History’ Teacher Asks 14-Year-Olds to Renounce U.S. Citizenship

-By Warner Todd Huston

One often hears that government schools in totalitarian nations brainwash their children to love the government. People in free nations decry that as oppressing the free will of innocent children, and rightly so. In American schools, however, just the opposite is true as with the case of an anti-American teacher in a public school in Chico, California who hates this country so much that he sent a letter home to his student’s parents urging them to renounce their citizenship in the U.S. as he announced he was so doing.

Since the troubling work of the so-called progressives led by John Dewey that has resulted in the near destruction of our institutes of higher learning, American schools have been steadily undermining this country. For a long time, at least, it was isolated mostly in the Universities safely removed from our youngest and most vulnerable students. Now, this pernicious and self-loathing force is commonly seen in even our elementary and high schools all too often. Supposed “teachers” who so hate the United States, its culture, history and ideals that they are willing to cast aside any pretense of teaching and are going straight for political indoctrination of their own hate filled ideology appear everywhere you turn.

This is the case of yet another American hater, another Ward Churchillesque propagandist infesting an American public school, one paid for by public funds, who is advocating the destruction of the United States by teaching things antithetical to our nation.

“Teacher” Mike Brooks is teaching his 14-year-old, middle school children that the U.S. tortures people and that it is better to be a member of “the global community” than to be an American. He is so filled with hate against the U.S.A. that he even sent a letter home to his student’s parents asking them to renounce their citizenship in the U.S.

Federal Reserve’s NewSpeak

-By Thomas E. Brewton

Like Big Brother in George Orwell’s novel, the Fed chairman uses words to mean the opposite of reality.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke, speaking at a German central bank conference, stated:

…my reading of recent developments is that although some of the details have changed, the fundamental elements of the global saving glut remain in place.

There is no such thing as a “global savings glut.” There is, however, a global, inflationary over-expansion of the money supply, by the Federal Reserve itself, to fund the Federal government’s always-growing welfare state and pork-barrelling by individual politicians.

The current bust in the real estate market and the implosion of the subprime mortgage market are examples of what former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan called “exuberance” in the marketplace, induced by the Fed’s excessive expansion of the money supply over the past several years.

If one reads chairman Bernanke’s statement literally, he equates Federal spending with saving. If that were true, each of us could become rich by spending to the max on our credit cards. In that lexicon, the more you spend, the more you save.

Newsweek Proclaims Woman is ‘Approved’ Catholic Priest

-By Warner Todd Huston

In keeping with the MSMs constant denigration of organized religion, Newseek has published a story proclaiming a female as an “approved” Catholic priest accepting the claims of rogue Catholic offshoot organizations over that of the official cannon of the real Catholic Church. Everything is relative to the MSM and their fellow nihilists, so the fact that the actual Catholic Church still doesn’t allow the ordination of women as priests doesn’t seem to matter a whole lot to them as they give this woman the benefit of being called a “Catholic priest.” It would be as ridiculous as the MSM calling Bill Clinton a black president… oh, wait. It certainly seems as if “truth” is a meaningless concept to the MSM.

Looking like an aging cheerleader instead of a “priest,” Newsweek featured the story of 25-year-old Jessica Rowley in Higher Calling, published on the 13th. In it they absurdly accept as fact her supposed ordination as a “Catholic priest.”

Sept. 13, 2007 – Last week 25-year-old Jessica Rowley became one of about a dozen women nationwide to make a highly unusual career move: she was ordained a Catholic priest. Rowley’s ordination—which took place at Eden Theological Seminary, a progressive institution in Webster Groves, Mo.—is approved by the Ecumenical Catholic Communion, a group of churches that decline to recognize the authority of the pope but see themselves nevertheless as Catholic. This week Rowley—who is also married—begins working full-time as an associate pastor at Saints Clare & Francis, a breakaway parish in Webster Groves.

Certainly, these offshoot groups have every right to create their own organizations and to reject the tenets of the actual Roman Catholic Church, but they just cannot claim themselves to be Catholics. Even Martin Luther realized he had to come up with a new brand!

Union Negotiates Pay Raises… For Union Chiefs

-By Warner Todd Huston

I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised when union representatives negotiate themselves bigger raises than they do for their own membership. But, it still rankles every time it happens… and it happens almost every time!

In this case it is the Broward County, Florida teacher’s union that has fenagled a higher raise for the top earners in the District than those at the lower end of the pay scale. It seems they have invented an absurdly complicated “steps” plan (there are 22 of these “steps”) where folks at the low end will forever get smaller raises than folks at the high end. Naturally, the union reps are all at the highest end of the scale.

Big surprise, eh?
