Yes, Rush, I hope Obama Fails, too

-By Selwyn Duke

Ever since President Obama (PBUH) dropped Rush Limbaugh’s name recently, the talk-show host has figured prominently in the news. And now he is being attacked by the mainstream press – and truly odious entities such as MoveOn.borg – for saying that he wants Obama (PBUH) to fail. It is being portrayed as an un-American sentiment by those great patriots on the left.

I actually agree with Limbaugh wholeheartedly. I also want Obama (PBUH) to fail – abjectly, miserably, completely – and visibly. I may even pray for it.

Anyone on the left who takes issue with this is either ignorant or a liar – and probably a hypocrite as well. I will explain.

Questionable Judgment

-By Thomas E. Brewton

The OECD Secretary-general seems not to understand the first and foremost responsibility of banks.

The Wall Street Journal carries the following brief interview note:

Angel Gurria, secretary-general of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, says the economic crisis will hit bottom in the last quarter of 2009, with a meager recovery starting in early 2010.

“2009 will be a very bumpy and bad year,” Mr. Gurria said. “2010 will be weak, but positive and in the black.”

Asked what sectors of the economy will drive the recovery, Mr. Gurria said: “Frankly the guys in the banks have to start doing their jobs again and start lending.”

A major contributor to the collapse of the financial community is the widely held attitude expressed by the Secretary-general that a bank’s job is to lend money. Arguably, it was precisely the urge to lend at the highest possible rates of return that led banks and other financial institutions to acquire too many high risk assets.

The Man the Left Wants Hanged for Tax Cheating

-By Warner Todd Huston

Tax troubles were all the rage for certain folks recently. ABC News screamed in a headline about one fellow that was, “America’s Overnight Sensation… Owes $1,200 in Taxes.” Huffintgon Post was all up in arms over the same story. The San Francisco Chronicle was tsking the fellow for being “concerned about increased taxes – but hasn’t paid his own income taxes.” The Chicago Tribune chided this figure for being “delinquent on his taxes.” It was a crime, they all said. An outrage. This is not to even mention the unhinged, screaming mimis of the left blogosphere that dug in like pitbulls to excoriate this notorious tax cheat.

So, who are they talking about? Who had these people out for blood? Is it Tim Geithner, Obama’s tax cheating chief of the Treasury? Maybe the hubby of Hilda Solis, Obama’s choice for Sec. of Labor? Perhaps it’s Tom Daschle, Obama’s unfortunate choice for the HHS? Maybe it was Nancy Killefer, Obama’s pick for the post of chief White House performance officer who just bowed out over troublesome tax issues? Was it any of these tax cheats?

Just who was the guy that the news and left bloggers were so incensed over?

Yeah, Let’s Cap Salaries. Start With Harvard!

-By Warner Todd Huston

Since Barack “Giant Killer” Obama thinks it’s his business how much CEOs and captains of business should be paid predicated on receiving federal money one has to wonder why this principle is not being applied fairly across the board? If receipt of federal money is enough to constitute total government control over salaries, let’s apply it everywhere. We can start with the salaries of university presidents.

Back in 2005, Senator Charles Grassley (R, Iowa) wanted to launch an investigation of the president and board of trustees of American University in Washington because of a giant severance package of $1.3 million given outgoing President Benjamin Ladner who only had a base salary of $633,000 in 2003. The severance seemed excessive, to say the least.

In 2005 Bloomberg published a story investigating the salaries of a handful of the nation’s top paid university presidents. The numbers then all exceeded President Obama’s new $500,000 cap for the evil CEOs of 2009.

Obama Gearing up for Union Payoffs

-By Warner Todd Huston

Last week, president Obama signed several executive orders that he claimed would “level the playing field” for the unions. By that he means, of course, that he expects to take away more power from business and the individual as a payoff to big unions.

As the AP reported, Obama signed three orders that materially affects the business sector.

Require federal contractors to offer jobs to current workers when contracts change.

Reverse a Bush administration order requiring federal contractors to post notice that workers can limit financial support of unions serving as their exclusive bargaining representatives.

Prevent federal contractors from being reimbursed for expenses meant to influence workers deciding whether to form a union and engage in collective bargaining.

Now, Obama claims this is going to “help” workers, right? So, how does removing information from workers “help” them? As the second order above indicates, Obama has helped union thugs hide the facts from workers so that workers are left in the dark about their rights.

Chi.Trib: Labeling One Group ‘Conservative’ But Not IDing the Liberal One

-By Warner Todd Huston

We have here a classic case of liberal bias in the Old Media. It isn’t as dramatic as may others that we have seen since The One came onto the national scene, but it is the sort of bias that has been endemic in the Old Media for a very long time. In a February 1 story in the Chicago Tribune, we find the old trick of naming a think tank as a source, but not mentioning that it is a liberal think tank, yet also citing a second group that is, however, labeled as a “conservative” think tank.

This sort of bias is very common in the Old Media. How it works is that the liberal think tank is cited as a source for some statistic or claim but that think tank is not labeled as a liberal group. This way the reader sees the liberal group’s advice or stats as unbiased or straight. Then the media will give a counter claim by the conservative think tank. But the conservative group is labeled as a conservative think tank so that the reader is led to be wary of that group’s stats or advice because they are biased.

In this way, the Old Media outlet in question can claim they’ve been “balanced” and were giving “both sides” of the story while still leaning the story to the left and attempting to discredit the right. It’s a typical smoke screen of leftward bias that is an old stand by for the liberal media establishment.

Paper Editor Alters Column To Say Writer is ‘Bitter Conservative’ That ‘Can’t Wish US Well’

-By Warner Todd Huston

This is why newspapers deserve to be buried in the dust bin of history, at least unless they clean up their act. For well over 20 years a southwest suburban Chicago newspaper called The Reporter has employed a columnist named Michael M. Bates. He has been the local conservative columnist for many years until, that is, his latest column on Barack Obama was altered to add malicious content aimed at the columnist by the paper’s editor.

Bates was one of those conservatives (like myself) that wrote that he hoped that Obama would not succeed as president IF success meant that all sorts of socialist, unAmerican policies would be implemented. Bates was not wishing the president to fail except in implementing policies that Bates felt would be bad for America and even more to the point Bates was not saying he wised the U.S. as a whole ill. But it seems that “nuance” is not something that Bates’ editor understands because the editor decided to add some things to Bates’ column that Bates did not say.

Why I Quit The Reporter

-By Michael M. Bates

The Reporter, a suburban Chicago newspaper, included on its commentary page last week this editorial announcement:

“The Reporter newspaper regrets to inform our loyal readers that columnist Michael Bates has chosen to discontinue his services after nearly 20 years writing for our commentary page.

“Mr. Bates is a polarizing commentator beloved by some readers and detested by others. . . We know some readers won’t be upset by his departure, but we also understand those members of the unofficial Michael Bates fan club will be extremely disappointed. One or two readers have actually told us over the years that Mr. Bates’ column is the reason they read The Reporter.” The notice went on to say something complimentary about my writing and to wish my family and me well.

The statement was wrong about how long I’ve taken up space in The Reporter. It’s been well over 20 years. Then again, since the editor was in elementary school when I began cranking – the emphasis here is on crank – out a weekly column, his error is understandable.

US Professors Attacking Israel and YOUR Tax $$ Fund It

-By Warner Todd Huston

Sadly, we are used to the anti-Semitism of Europe. After all, that is where anti-Semitism has historically thrived in a most virulent form and does still today. We are also used to the Jew hatred of the illiterati of Europe’s universities having seen so often the petitions they’ve raised to denounce Israel and give succor to Hamas and Fatah — and any other terrorist group that comes down the pike, for that matter. Of course, this infection of hate, racism and self-destructive terror worship is increasingly appearing at our own universities in the U.S. Nothing is more representative of that than the example of the “U.S. Campaign for the Academic & Cultural Boycott of Israel” recently emanating out of several California Universities.

Sponsored by several radical Muslimists that claim at being professors in a handful of California universities, this petition is one of the first of it’s kind here in the U.S. A disgusting milestone on the road to the Islamization of our tax payer funded institutions of higher learning. It is also an effort that pushes an extreme anti-intellectualism in our schools.

What do Obama and Unions Have in Common? Communists!

-By Warner Todd Huston

Michael Richardson of the on-line news group the Examiner wrote recently about some revealing quotes about the modern American Communist Party by a Richard Winger of Ballot Access News.

Speaking about how the Communist Party in the US has for the most part ceased trying to run candidates for office, Winger points out that the CPUSA fully endorsed Barack Obama for president in 2008 and has decided it best to focus on Democratic Party politics and union activities.

Communist Party members participate in politics and electoral life mostly by participation in unions, and inside the Democratic Party. The Communist Party’s weekly newspaper supports Democratic presidential nominees…

This says a lot, not about where the CPUSA has gone, but where Democrats and Unions have. If CPUSA members have gravitated toward unions and the Democratic Party, this means that those nominally American groups have drifted far enough to the extreme left for even communists to agree to join their efforts.

This is singularly bad news for America. This should also be kept very close in mind when considering if we should work with Obama and the Democrats or not.

Why Government Is The Problem

-By Thomas E. Brewton

As Friedrich Hayek noted (A Free-Market Monetary System), government monopoly of the right to issue currency is the ultimate source of our economic miseries.

President Reagan, in his first inaugural address, famously said:

In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.

In 1981, when he said it, economic conditions were in many respects identical to those we face today. And for the same fundamental reason: governments almost always arrogate to themselves the exclusive right to issue and/or to regulate the issuance of currency. The Constitution, Article I, Section 8, states: The Congress shall have Power… To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures…

This power, for any government, creates a temptation to over-expand the money supply and debase the currency. Only the unwritten constitution of the nation can guard against it.

Time Mag Photographer Works as Both a ‘Journalist’ AND Team Obama Employee?

-By Warner Todd Huston

The old joke about CNN in the 1990s was that it stood for the Clinton News Network. The current joke about the anti-Israel Associated Press is that AP stands for Allah Press. In the 70s, people joked that NBC really meant National Broadcasting for Communists. We’ve all heard the various joke acronyms before, of course. But, the presumed sentiment of the individuals working for these news agencies aside, these are just sarcastic jibes cast at journalists and the companies they work for. But, a current situation blurs the line between mere jokes and reality. Time Magazine has employed a photographer named Callie Shell that has apparently been doing double duty as both a “journalist” AND a member of team Obama, taking pictures subsequently sent out as official White House photos.

How is it that we can have someone thinking that bias cannot be presumed when that same person is working for both a news agency and at the same time the subject of that news? Is the love that the press has for The One so blurred that they cannot see a difference between covering Obama and working for Obama?

Michael Calderone reports in Politico of a situation that is embarrassing both Time Magazine, and Shell, the purported photo-journalist they’ve hired as a photographer. Naturally, Shell is claiming it’s all just a misunderstanding… just like a kid caught with her hand in the cookie jar. Shell claims she was only doing a “favor” for the President and that she wasn’t “on duty” with Time Magazine when she was acting the part of the White House’s personal photog.

Equal Pay

-By Dan Scott

To hear the AP story of President Obama signing the Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act one would think a new page in civil rights has been turned. However, like all things liberal Democrats foist upon the public these days using their salesmanship it’s the details they gloss over that are particularly problematic. The AP story was devoid of detail that would allow a reader to consider the facts.

Here are the details that should raise some red flags in every employer’s mind.

“Ledbetter was a supervisor at Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s plant in Gadsden, Ala., from 1979 until her retirement in 1998. For most of those years, she worked as an area manager, a position largely occupied by men. Initially, Ledbetter’s salary was in line with the salaries of men performing similar work.

Over time, her pay slipped in comparison to the pay of male area managers with equal or less seniority. By the end of 1997, Ledbetter was the only woman working as an area manager and the pay discrepancy between Ledbetter and her 15 male counterparts was stark: Ledbetter was paid $3,727 per month; the lowest paid male area manager received $4,286 per month, the highest paid, $5,236.

Obama’s Election Leads To Societal Trivialization

-By Warner Todd Huston

There is a long human tradition of celebrating the lives of great men by naming buildings and institutions after them. Men that were consequential to their age — or a later one, for that matter — are memorialized by their progeny and held out as the pinnacle of human achievement. Brave, heroic, intelligent, leaders of men, father’s of their people or their field of study, such men are the stuff of legend and societal memory. Memorializing them brings social continuity and gives current generations an ideal model to emulate.

And so, in light of this, we most often wait until someone has actually achieved something before we name a school after them. After all, it’s only fair that we insist that future generations venerate a man that has actually done something exceptional with the end product of their lives, lest the whole exercise seem somewhat hollow.

Sadly, with the coming of Barack Obama, it now seems that hundreds of years of tradition concerning meritorious service has today been unceremoniously cast aside. Apparently, all one need do now for solemn devotion to be lavished upon him is to get elected. A mere election obliviously fosters instant veneration and now presumed excellence can be achieved without all that messy business of having to earn it. Yes, just winning a single election is cause enough to rename schools and streets for Barack Hussein Obama.

King Uncorks Clunker: The Cell Phone Clicky Noise Act

-By Warner Todd Huston

In a what-was-he-thinking move, Representative Peter King (R-NY) has recently introduced H.R. 414, the Camera Phone Predator Alert Act which is aimed at preventing “predators” from taking illicit photos of others in public with cell phones. The bill will force cell phone manufacturers to make the camera feature of a cell phone emit a noise so that it will be audibly obvious when a picture is taken.

As the bill summary at Thomas.loc.gov states:

Requires any mobile phone containing a digital camera to sound a tone whenever a photograph is taken with the camera’s phone. Prohibits such a phone from being equipped with a means of disabling or silencing the tone. Treats the requirement as a consumer product safety standard and requires enforcement by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Really? So now we are mandating sounds here? Should we begin to make laws that devices of every kind emit some sort of sound to alert everyone in the vicinity that something has been used in their presence, and predicate it all on “public safety”? And, what if someone doesn’t like the particular sound chosen? Are we going to sue to get the sound we like? Will the government then make rules of what kind of sound is made, how loud, how long? Will there be great volumes of the sorts of sounds “allowed” for one thing or another? Clicks for cameras? Star Trek-like swooshing sounds when doors open?

Social Justice As Foreign Policy

-By Thomas E. Brewton

President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reportedly believe that the key to world peace is an international welfare state to equalize wealth distribution worldwide.

Both the President and his Secretary of State are on record as believing that the key to world peace and the end of Islamic jihad is to buy-off the enemy with welfare benefits, funded by American taxpayers. Given the current state of the economy and the Federal government’s massive deficits, this may be unrealistic.

Theirs is an approach based on social justice, the liberal-progressive hypothesis that institutions supporting private property rights foster unfair accumulation of wealth in the hands of greedy capitalists, leading to social discontent. Redistributing wealth, in liberal-progressive doctrine, removes incentives to aggression, crime, and war. As Hillary Clinton said in her primary campaign for the presidency, she intended to take more wealth, via higher taxes, from some people and put it to better social purposes.

More L.A. Times God-Like Obamaconography

-By Warner Todd Huston

In yet another example of the absurd, even borderline blasphemous depictions of Barack Obama as if he were a religious figure, the L.A. Times foisted upon its customers an amazing specimen as a wrap around over its newsstand copies of the paper leading up to inaugural day last week.

Freeper “puffer” was so amazed at the audacity of this L.A. Times imagery, he had to scan the sheet and display it on FreeRepublic.com. The photograph is reminiscent of one of the most famous and iconic depictions of God in western art, the Sistine Chapel painting of God reaching out to Adam. But, instead of God, we have The Obammessiah reaching across the page as if straining to touch each of us with his healing hand. It’s quite disgusting, really, the way the Old Media has propagandized for Obama by replicating religious imagery or communist propaganda and this over-the-top image is a perfect example.

A Crisis Too Great to Waste

– By Jeff Lukens

So Barack Obama proposes massive government spending like we have never seen before as our way back to economic prosperity. Yet wasn’t it a mountain of unpayable debt that got us into this financial crisis in the first place? The rivers of red ink he proposes would make FDR and LBJ blush. This approach may have worked politically for FDR and LBJ, but neither time did it work economically for the country. It may work politically for Obama too, but deficit spending will not work economically today either.

Banana republics are known for this kind of governance. It is a recipe for a treasury default or hyperinflation that no industrialized county has seen since Germany’s Weimar Republic in the 1920s. And that debacle sewed the seeds for the despotism of the Third Reich.

Obama is a smart guy. He can’t possibly be naive enough to think more debt piled on the existing $10.6 trillion national debt is the solution to the economic mess we are in. Recessions are a natural part of the economic cycle and only market forces can correct them. One can only wonder about his true motives.

Economics Shotgun Style

-By Dan Scott

Most of what we hear from the MSM and politicians is our current economic crisis is national in scope requiring a massive government spending spree to pump prime the economy. The proposed plan is national in scope and diverse in its approach to doling out the cash to various pet liberal causes. All of this is under the guise that we need to create or save 3 to 4 million jobs. So which is it? Create or save them? The premise of the claim is to save the jobs lost and create additional jobs to employ all the high school and college graduates who need them as well. That’s right, not only do we need to re-employ the over 2 million plus people who lost their jobs in the last 12 months, come May and June 2009 we have another 3 to 4 million young adults needing jobs on top of this number. Expect the unemployment rate to hit 10% by July. We are told government is the only entity that can do this.

Not to belabor my previous criticisms of the Democrat led plan, government policy was the cause of the current debacle and reversing failed government policy is the answer to the situation. Claiming that a massive deficit spending increase in liberal agenda items is economic stimulus is like claiming a drunk person should double down on the amount of alcohol consumed to make them sober. The liberal agenda is to the economy as drinking is to sobriety.

Chicago Area College Fighting Over Adopting Student’s Bill of Rights

-By Warner Todd Huston

In the midst of the Obama coronation in Washington this week, school board member Sheila Patterson of the Jackson Public School System in Jackson, Michigan told teachers in her district that if they don’t show Barack Obama’s inauguration in the class room they should just “go home.” Patterson further told teachers that if they didn’t show the ceremony they “don’t belong in this school district.” Patterson also tsked such teachers sternly alerting them that she was “very, very disappointed.”

The news report of this incident notes that 43 percent of the school district is comprised of minorities. I suppose that means that the 57 percent that isn’t minority either does not deserve to have their opinions known, or is presumed not to have wanted to see the ceremony. Either way, we have what shapes up to be a school board member throwing the race card at what she is trying to paint as racist teachers.

It was later discovered that many teachers wanted to show the ceremony on their class computers, but the Internet of the District was overloaded and many couldn’t get a connection. No word if Sheila Patterson will apologize for her racist outburst and her assumptions that whites hate Barack Obama and didn’t want to celebrate his big day.

Why I Want Barack Obama To Fail As President

-By Warner Todd Huston

An extremely liberal co-worker of mine — he’s in the past said that the “rich” should be killed, for instance — asked me a serious question by which he felt he could gauge whether or not I was a “real” American in his eyes during the rise of the age of Obama. He wondered whether I wish success for Barack Obama as our president. After a few seconds of reflection I had to honestly give a qualified “no” in answer to his query. Naturally this fellow went off about how it was unAmerican to wish the president to fail and how it would damage the country. But, after he briefly calmed down, and brief calm is usually all we can expect from him, I gave him a fuller explanation.

I reminded him that it was a qualified no I gave him. Of course every American wants his president to be successful on every count that will benefit the country. No true American wants to see a monumental, destructive, Carteresque failure in the White House. My liberal co-worker is correct on that count. No one wants the next Buchanan, who, Nero-like, fiddled while Washington D.C. and the country burned. We want them all to be Reagans, Washingtons and Lincolns.

But, that is just it, isn’t it? We want them to do what is best for the country. That is what we mean by “success.” And, when you get right down to it, opinions vary of what “best” means. I do want Obama to be successful on what would be best for this country, absolutely. Unfortunately, there is little that he campaigned on that would be good for this country.

Nation Tottering Close To Political Idolatry

-By Frederick Meekins

It is understandable that most would take an interest in the peaceful transitions of power that take place in the United States between one administration to the next as it is a skill less civilized countries have failed to master; however, what is taking place right now in relation to Barack Obama is downright frightening and almost idolatrous in its implications

About the most disgraceful piece of commemorative inaugural memorabilia I’ve seen is a flag with Obama’s visage emblazoned across it.

The flag is a symbol of the United States that ought to remain above the holders of the office sworn to protect it.

To defile it in this manner is an act as almost disgusting as burning it.

Revoke National Holiday for Martin Luther King!

-By Don Boys, Ph.D.

I don’t have a major commitment to tell the world about Martin Luther King but about the King. So my time dealing with the MLK exposé is very limited; however, I do want to see his holiday revoked. And I do want to see Christian schools refuse to honor his day. Furthermore, I will never quote him without a disclaimer that I do not recommend his aims, actions, activities, associates, or his authorship.

It is incredible that major evangelical and fundamentalist churches and schools honor the memory of King. Following his death, Wheaton College, Westmont College, Fuller Theological Seminary, and Trinity Theological Seminary had memorial services for King! Many churches and schools honor his memory each year.

Slate: Know Who Obama is ‘Just Like’? The Hero Pilot of Flight 1549!

-By Warner Todd Huston

Anne Applebaum said she was reaching for a metaphor to describe the dreamy Barack Obama when she started her Slate piece on January 19. Instead of reaching for a metaphor, however, she only got a handful of absurd hyperbole when she decided that Barack Obama was “just like” Captain C.B. “Sully” Sullenberger, the hero pilot that saved the lives of his entire planeload of people by landing it safely in the Hudson River last week. But, after she went wild with her “metaphor” about Obama, Applebaum ended her piece with some really solid warnings about government overreach.

Still, the first half of Applebaum’s column was so silly that its hard to know where to start discussing its over-the-top nature. But, lets begin at the top with her ill-fitting conflation of Capt. Sullenberger’s excellent job, an “anti-9/11” she absurdly claimed, and the terrorist attacks that brought down the World Trade Center in 2001. There is simply no logical way to relate the two incidents at all, but Applebaum makes a valiant and risible attempt to do so.

A Fading Dream

-By Thomas E. Brewton

The much lamented fading of the American dream of a better future results from the continuous, corrosive effect of policies initiated by President Franklin Roosevelt in the 1930s.

Democrat/Socialists blame Republicans for foreclosing the American dream, the expectation that things will be better for our children than they were for us. Their explanation is that presidents Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush took income away from the middle class and from low-income citizens and gave it to “the rich” via tax cuts.

The incoming Obama administration vows to change that.

MLK Was in Bed With Leading Communists!

-By Don Boys, Ph.D.

Martin Luther King, if not a Communist, was a fool and tool of the Communist Party that was actively seeking to overthrow our government in favor of the Soviet Union. Many of them worked for him and the Communist Party at the same time! A few of the main Communists were:

  • Abner W. Berry was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party official.
  • Bayard Rustin was a lifetime black Communist leader who spent time in jail for lewd vagrancy and performing lewd homosexual acts in public. He also spent twenty-six months in jail for draft dodging.
  • Hunter Pitts O’Dell was King’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference top man in the Southeast and member of the National Committee of the Communist Party. After newspapers reported O’Dell’s association with Communists, King fired him making much to do about it. Then he immediately hired him (without making anything to do about it) to run the New York City SCLC office. O’Dell also worked for Jesse Jackson.
  • Stanley Levison was the bagman for the Communist Party. He distributed millions of dollars from the Russian KGB (the Soviet secret police) to finance Communist activities in the U.S.! King’s wife, Coretta, said he was “a devoted and trusted” friend of King. He edited King’s book Stride Toward Freedom, wrote many of his speeches and filled out his income tax returns. Remember that this dude was working for the Soviet KGB secret police and King at the same time!

The FBI recruited two former high-ranking Communist Party members, brothers Morris and Jack Childs as informants. This Operation Solo lasted until 1980 and looked into the funding of the Party. Jack revealed that the Soviet government funded the U.S. Communist Party about one million per year! Jack also revealed that New York attorney, Stanley Levison, was the bagman for the hostile foreign government.

Obama Thinks Original Declaration of Independence Not Good Enough?

-By Warner Todd Huston

In his Saturday remarks during his campaign train ride, President-elect Barack Obama issued some soaring rhetoric about the state of the country today. At least the Old Media thought it was soaring rhetoric, anyway. Typically, the media was overawed by his mellifluous tones, of course. But during these remarks in Baltimore Obama made a startling suggestion. He said we need a “new Declaration of Independence.”

Apparently the original one isn’t good enough for the new president, but it also seems a silly rhetorical flourish. After all, what is it that we are declaring independence from this time? Recall that the original one was a declaration of separation from an oppressive monarchy, one that led to a seven-year-long war. Are we in such dire straits now?

And, needless to say, it is also amazing the Old Media didn’t jump all over Obama for this conceit. Can you imagine the media giving a pass to a Republican that proposed making a new Declaration of Independence? Doubtless they would attack a Republican mercilessly for suggesting the original Declaration was out of date or no longer applicable — as well they should.

Will Left Accept That They Were Wrong About Bush?

-By Warner Todd Huston

We all heard it repeatedly over at least the last 5 years. The moonbat conspiracy theory that Bush would “suspend the Constitution” and declare himself permanent president appeared all over the place; Internet, TV, radio, and newspapers and magazines alike. The slobbering left from Washington to California, Texas to Illinois and in every corner of the Earth was sure the evil Bushhitler would never give up power.

Why, he was at the same time the dumbest man to ever trod the earf and the most evil, machiavellian schemer that concocted the most intricate web of conspiratorial power grabs in the history of mankind. Only the Bushhitler could be both dumb and smart like that the leftists assured us.

L.A. Goes Enviro-MENTAL With Insider Dealings, Waste In Solar Plan

-By Warner Todd Huston

Los Angeles, California has a new initiative underway called “Measure B” that would basically award a monopolistic, no-bids contract to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union (IBEW), the union that would be given the task to install the things in the city. Campaigners for the initiative have so far raised $267,000 with two-thirds of that coming from the very unions that would benefit from the unfair set asides that would exclude outside companies from being able to bid on the installation.

It’s a bit convenient that the group that would benefit most is almost fully funding the drive to get this measure passed, isn’t it? Especially given the fact that solar cell technology is still far too expensive to install and maintain to be cost effective. A recent study claimed that, for home use, it would take a homeowner 100 years to recoup the costs of installing solar cells. Now, pile on top of that basic fact the many millions that will be wasted by giving the installation job to a union, and pile on top of that the other corruption taxes that a big city adds to any project, and we can easily realize that this is nothing but a giant boondoggle to the tax payer and, of course, another undeserved but giant boon to the unions.
